The most likely Motta replacement if he is sacked before end of the season

Igor Tudor

Juventus are reportedly inclined to wait until the end of the season before making a final decision on Thiago Motta’s future, which means the manager will have several upcoming games to prove he is the right man for the job. While the Bianconeri are not entirely pleased with the lack of progress shown by the team this season, they still hold hope that Motta can turn things around before the campaign concludes. ............

If the team’s poor form persists after the international break, Juventus could be forced to part ways with Motta. In that eventuality, Igor Tudor is likely to be appointed as the interim manager for the remainder of the season.

Tudor’s managerial career has seen him spend relatively short periods in his last two roles, but he managed to achieve respectable results during his time at both Olympique Marseille and Lazio. While Juventus are not considering him for a permanent managerial position, the club would bring him in to steady the ship and guide the team to secure a Champions League spot for next season. ............

Juventus set to fire Thiago Motta; Igor Tudor the likely short-term replacement

Motta deluso per l'eliminazione della Juve ma difende le sue scelte: "Rifarei tutto ciò che ho fatto"

It appears we could very well be on the cusp of a weekend of major change at Juventus.

That is a result of Saturday night’s news drop from multiple outlets within the Italia media contingent that reported it’s only a matter of time before Thiago Motta is officially dismissed as manager at Juventus. ............

The man who is the leader in the clubhouse to replace Motta on a short-term caretaker basis through the rest of the 2024-25 season is Igor Tudor, who has accepted the terms of joining Juventus in this kind of role. Tudor will also reportedly have an option in his contract to stay on for the 2025-26 season, although the conditions of that are still unknown. ............

Parting ways with Motta now will not come cheap for a Juventus squad that is very much in need of making the Champions League next season simply from a financial standpoint. It will cost Juventus in the neighborhood of €15 million to part ways with Motta and his coaching staff. Motta, who signed a three-year contract with Juventus, reportedly earns €5 million per season.

But over the last 24 hours, things have certainly accelerated from “meetings are happening and evaluations are continuing” to basically where we are now, with Motta’s tenure at Juventus very much looking over and somebody like Tudor set to be the man to try and get this club qualified for the Champions League during the final nine games of the season. ............

Why Juventus will appoint Igor Tudor instead of Roberto Mancini

Igor Tudor našao novi angažman: Evo koga će sada trenirati - Večernji.hr

Juventus have reportedly decided in favour of appointing Igor Tudor as a replacement for Thiago Motta rather than Roberto Mancini.

At this stage, Motta’s expected sacking can be deemed the worst-kept secret in Turin. Many believe the 42-year-old is already a deadman walking at Continassa, as the hierarchy has already decided to wield the axe, with only the official confirmation missing. ............

Over the past few days, there have been great speculations over the identity of the manager who would take over at the Allianz Stadium for the rest of the season (and possibly beyond). Several sources have identified Mancini as the primary candidate for the role. ............

But Tudor has been deemed the right profile, especially due to his willingness to sign a temporary contract.

As the source explains, this aspect proved decisive, as the management would like to appoint a caretaker coach before reflecting on his future at the end of the season. On the contrary, Mancini was hoping for some guarantees regarding the future.

Tudor was a robust defender who represented Juventus at the pinnacle of his playing career, and also served as Andre Pirlo’s assistant manager during the 2020/21 campaign. ............

Igor Tudor is expected to replace Thiago Motta at Juventus, and the Croatian tactician has already expressed strong opinions on two Bianconeri players: Dusan Vlahovic and Gleison Bremer. ............

Tudor will be tasked with getting a top-four finish in Serie A and has already explained his stance on two Juventus players, Vlahovic and Bremer.

Back in 2022, when he was in charge of Verona, he was asked whether Victor Osimhen was the best striker in Serie A, but he replied: “No, he’s a strong player, but the strongest is Vlahovic. He’s one of the best.” ............

Vlahovic is Juventus’ best scorer this season, but he’s lost his starting spot at the Allianz Stadium since January when the Bianconeri signed Randal Kolo Muani on loan from PSG.

Vlahovic has scored 14 goals in 34 matches this term and has only started one Serie A game in 2025.

Brazilian defender Bremer is another player Tudor thinks very highly of. ............

Tudor, however, is unlikely to rely on Bremer this season. The Brazilian centre-back is recovering from a knee injury and is not expected to return to action before the start of the 2025-26 campaign. ............

Tudor for 9 matches – Who will be the Juventus manager at Club World Cup?

Igor Tudor on the sidelines

Juventus are reportedly preparing to appoint Igor Tudor as their caretaker coach for the rest of the Serie A campaign, but this short-term agreement might not extend to the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Bianconeri have already made up their mind regarding Thiago Motta who failed to implement his own style of football this season, and has been overseeing a horrific collapse over the past few weeks. ............

Therefore, several sources in Italian football reveal that Tudor has been identified as the right profile to halt the decline pick up the pieces and try to steer the team back to the Top 4 spots. ............

The Croatian will only be entrusted for the nine remaining fixtures in the Serie A campaign, thus leaving the door open for another managerial change ahead of the Club World Cup which kicks off on June 15th. ............

Napoli boss Antonio Conte and Al-Nassr manager Stefano Pioli remain potential candidates on this front, and even Roberto Mancini could be reconsidered for this role after being shunned in favour of Tudor for the temporary gig.

Nevertheless, the Croatian will be hoping to convince the hierarchy with a solid run in the final weeks of the Serie A campaign.

Juventus bracing for tactical revolution: How will the team line up under Tudor?

Igor Tudor on the sidelines

Juventus fans can expect a drastically different formation with Igor Tudor taking over from Thiago Motta. ............

Tudor has been identified as the right profile to lead the club’s charge, at least temporarily, and steer them back in the right direction, making sure they finish in the Top 4.

However, the Croatian’s arrival will be accompanied by a tactical revolution similar to the one witnessed a year ago when he took over Maurizio Sarri at Lazio. The 46-year-old won’t think twice before implementing his tried-and-trusted 3-4-2-1 formation.

So which players will be picked as starters in this tactical system?

Federico Gatti will be the favourite to maintain his role at the back, while Pierre Kalulu, Renato Veiga and Lloyd Kelly will be vying for the two other roles. On the flanks, Andrea Cambiaso and Timothy Weah should represent ideal options for the wingback slots. ............

In the middle of the park, Tudor will be looking for physicality, something that Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram can bring, while Weston McKennie represents an alternative option.

Teun Koopmeiners could be set for an attacking-midfielder role similar to the one he interpreted in Gian Piero Gasperini’s formation, but Kenan Yildiz and Nico Gonzalez both represent viable options for the two spots behind the striker.

Finally, Tudor’s admiration could see Dusan Vlahovic retain his role upfront, or at least get a fair chance to prove himself in his duel against Randal Kolo Muani.

Juventus XI (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio, Gatti, Kalulu, Renato Veiga; Weah, Locatelli, Thuram (McKennie), Cambiaso; Yildiz, Nico Gonzalez (Koopmeiners); Vlahovic (Kolo Muani)

Di Marzio reveals key clause in Juventus agreement with Igor Tudor

Igor Tudor looking on

Igor Tudor will soon be handed the reins at Juventus on a temporarily basis, but he might end up dwelling in Turin longer than expected.

Over the past 24 hours or so, almost every major news source in Italian football has confirmed that the Bianconeri have decided to wield the axe on Thiago Motta’s tenure.

For his part, Tudor is expected to arrive in Turin in the coming hours to sign a three-month contract. In fact, the sources insist the Croatian’s willingness to accept a short-term deal was an integral factor in the club’s decision, as the directors didn’t want a long-term commitment at this stage, preferring to keep their options open for the summer.

So according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the 46-year-old is now all set to sign a three-month deal as he’ll try to halt the club’s horrific fall and inspire a revival. The source also expects Tudor’s compatriot and former assistant at Lazio, Ivan Javorcic, to join the technical staff. ............

Tudor’s contract will include a renewal option that can be triggered in case the manager succeeds in landing a spot in next season’s edition of the Champions League. ............

Juventus currently sit 5th in the standings after being usurped by Bologna following their woeful beatdowns at the hands of Atalanta and Fiorentina. Moreover, Lazio are still breathing down their neck, while the revived Roma could emerge as a Dark Horse in the race.

“Everyone was against him” – Why Igor Tudor left Marseille & Lazio

Igor Tudor during his time at Lazio

Juventus are preparing to appoint Igor Tudor as caretaker coach, but the Croatian’s last two managerial experiences are raising a few concerns amongst the club’s supporters. ............

Afterwards, he enjoyed a solid campaign as Hellas Verona’s head coach which earned him a major step up to Olympique Marseille. But despite yielding solid results and finishing third in Ligue 1, Tudor still decided to leave the French club.

For his part, OM president Pablo Longaria reflected on the manager’s decision while acknowledging the difficulties he endured during his time at Velodrome.

“I wouldn’t wish what Igor suffered on my worst enemy”.

“He found himself at a club where everyone was against him, from the inside and outside. ............

Tudor then took over from Maurizio Sarri when the latter resigned from Lazio in March 2024, but he only lasted at the club for three months before agreeing on a mutual termination with Claudio Lotito.

The reason behind this decision was the Croatian’s desire to revamp the squad by replacing 10 players! ............

Former Juventus captain Danilo has hit out at his agent for criticising the decision to hire Igor Tudor in place of Thiago Motta. ‘I absolutely do not agree.’

The defender was effectively pushed out of the club during the January transfer window after falling down the pecking order under coach Motta.

At the time, his agent Bruno Misorelli had been bitterly critical of Motta. ............

Now that the dismissal is official and Motta has been replaced by Tudor, Misorelli is still not happy and said as much on his X account.

“The first mistake was Motta, the next is Tudor. They have learned nothing.” ............

“I absolutely do not agree with the comments from my agent, and I would never dare to give advice to the directors on what to do. Danilo said.

“I am a supporter from afar and wish Juve all the best.”

The 33-year-old is continuing his career back home in Brazil, having made the transfer to Flamengo in January. ............

“Juventus can recover” Manfredonia expresses his confident in Igor Tudor

UN RITORNO IN BIANCONERO | CHI È IGOR TUDOR, IL NUOVO ALLENATORE DELLA JUVENTUS - Juventus

Igor Tudor is being backed to make a significant impact at Juventus and help them secure a top-four finish in Serie A, ensuring qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The Croatian manager has only just been appointed, stepping in at a crucial time when Juventus’ season is hanging in the balance. With just nine games left in the league, the Bianconeri must work tirelessly to achieve their primary objective: finishing in the top four. ............

The first major test of Tudor’s tenure will come this weekend when Juventus faces Genoa. This fixture will be a defining moment, as a victory could instil renewed confidence within the squad and set the tone for the remaining matches. ............

Former Juventus player Lionello Manfredonia has been closely monitoring the situation at the Allianz Stadium and has expressed his confidence in Tudor’s ability to steer the team in the right direction. He shared his thoughts on the managerial change:

“He has always been one to take teams on the run, he has to work for 4 months, and I think Juventus can recover.”

Manfredonia’s belief in Tudor reflects the trust that many within the footballing world have in the Croatian manager. His previous coaching experience and familiarity with Juventus as a former player put him in a strong position to understand the club’s culture and expectations. ............

Journalist explains what we can expect from Tudor’s Juventus

Igor Tudor

Juventus will enter a new era when they face Genoa this weekend, and the Bianconeri will need to secure a victory to kickstart Igor Tudor’s tenure. Given that even the underperforming Thiago Motta managed to win his first Serie A match, Tudor will have little room for excuses when it comes to delivering a positive result. ............

Tudor’s managerial approach differs significantly from that of his predecessor, and while it would be wise not to make too many changes to the set-up at the Allianz Stadium immediately, the new manager will likely introduce key tactical differences. One of the most notable changes will be in the formation and style of play, which Tudor aims to implement right away.

The players will need to quickly adapt to the new methods, and Giovanni Guardalà has provided some insight into what we can expect from Tudor’s approach.

“From today, Tudor will have all the internationals available with the first tactical tests of Tudor’s team, with his reference game system. The basis will be a three-man defense with great intensity in the man-to-man approach. Certainly an important phase begins with Tudor who will try to shake up an environment depressed by the disappointing season.” ............

This shift in tactical approach marks a clear departure from the previous setup under Motta. The introduction of a three-man defence and a more intense, man-to-man marking style will require Juventus players to adapt quickly. Tudor’s focus will be on creating a high-intensity, organised structure that can provide results on the field, especially after a season that has left many feeling disillusioned. ............

Luigi Maifredi reveals why Tudor is the right coach for Juventus

Caos Juve, Tudor contro Pirlo e il club: parole durissime

Igor Tudor is the latest manager of Juventus, and the Bianconeri are hopeful that he can help the team recover from their disappointing form under Thiago Motta. With only a few matches remaining to salvage their season, Juventus are aiming to secure a top-four finish, which would guarantee their participation in the Champions League next season. ............

Former Juventus manager Luigi Maifredi, however, believes that Tudor is the right man to lead the team forward. Maifredi argues that Tudor’s experience and knowledge of what it takes to succeed at Juventus make him an ideal fit. He suggested that Tudor’s familiarity with the club will be vital, especially in comparison to Motta, who struggled to adapt:

“The Bianconeri did well to change coach. Tudor is the right man because he knows the job. He doesn’t make a fuss. Another would have had to adapt, while for the Croatian Juve is his home.

“Motta’s mistake was to copy and paste Bologna, but that was a sensational adventure, he was good, but the results were also the result of chance.” ............

Tudor reveals Vlahovic & Kolo Muani plans, names Juventus captain: “He’s a good person”

Juventus, presentazione Igor Tudor: data e orario conferenza stampa

An excited Igor Tudor held his first press conference on Thursday after being appointed as the new Juventus manager. ............

Afterwards, Tudor took centre stage, insisting that coaching Juventus is an objective for every manager.

“Greetings to everyone, I know you a little. I thank the director, the whole club for this opportunity,” said the former Lazio and Marseille manager.

I will give my all to do the right job, which must be done. There are emotions, clearly, not only because of what Juve represents.

“Everyone would like to coach Juve. Above all, there is a desire to do well, to fulfill the objective and we all know what it is. I believe so much in this team, it has strong players. ............

“Dusan made a nice gesture. He’s a very strong player, and I’m happy to coach him. I’ve spoken about him in the past. These are facts, not words. We’re talking about a player who has all the qualities that a top-notch star must possess. ............

“There’s him, there’s Kolo, two strong strikers who can either play together or alternate. It’s important to have strong players, otherwise, a coach can’t do anything. It’s stimulating.” ............

“I’ve been abroad for many years now. I can be a bit particular, but I make choices with my heart. I joined, contract or no contract, if I feel it’s right, I continue, if it’s not right, I go home.

“I live in the present, even this job here. Having a 10-year contract changes little. I would like to have a 10-year contract, but I still do my job. There’s the match on Saturday, we motivate ourselves, this is the life of a coach. We can’t control what’s in the future.” ............

“The captain will be Locatelli. We will name two or three more players in the next few days. Manuel is a good guy, a good person, he has the right attributes for the role.”

Igor Tudor has stressed the importance of getting to work ‘quickly’ at Juventus after replacing Thiago Motta as interim head coach, has outlined where the Bianconeri need to improve and jokes that he would love a ‘10-year contract’ at the Allianz Stadium. ............

He began his chat with the press with a message of thanks to the Juventus board for his appointment: “I thank the director, the whole club for this opportunity and the chance to coach this club. I will give everything I have to do the job that needs to be done,” Tudor said. ............

“There are lots of emotions of course. Everyone wants to coach Juve. But most importantly, there is a job to do, a job that needs doing well if we are to achieve the goal, and we all know what that is.

“I believe in this team a lot, we have strong players, but little time to work. Everyone arrived yesterday, first training. There are no excuses. ............

“We live in the present, even in this line of work. Having a 10-year contract wouldn’t change much. I wish I had a 10-year contract, but I still have to do my job. We have a match on Saturday, we’re motivating ourselves, that is the life of a coach. We can’t control what happens in the future. I live for today’s training.” ............

“We don’t have to give up on anything. I want people to have fun. I always want to score one more goal. I like to attack a lot, but I don’t want to concede either. The work has to be complete. Football has to go in a direction where it becomes increasingly more exciting, more interesting, the world is increasingly demanding. ............

“Nobody gives a damn if you’re young or old at Juventus, you have to be strong. Juve is a club that does the right things by making the right choices with the right people. I’ve been around and I didn’t always see that. If you pick the wrong person, you don’t do well. This has always been a strength here, starting from above. This culture, Del Piero, Zidane, the humility of these people, Montero. All the ones I remember.

“Everyone has to take responsibility. The captain will be Locatelli. ............

“I was talking to Perin about it yesterday, I came in at 20 years old. We had Zidane in the locker room. I would sit there waiting for treatment, there are all these guys who get up and then it’s my turn. I see Zizou and I leave, he grabs me and tells me ‘you’re up, I’ll come later’.

“Another good one: I’d take my socks off after training, and Del Piero would come in and tell me ‘look, you have to put them on like this, you have to turn them around.’ Why would he do that? It doesn’t cost anything. Two nice things that show their humility.”

Tudor ended his press conference with a word for the Juventus supporters: “The fans have always been important and I’m sure they will support us on Saturday.” ............

Curva greeting, touchline arguments & ‘assist’ to Yildiz – Reviewing Tudor’s lively debut

Igor Tudor celebrates win on Juventus debut

While making his managerial bow, new Juventus boss Igor Tudor was at the centre of attention, and he certainly didn’t disappoint. ............

On Saturday, Tudor led Juventus for the first time as Genoa arrived in Turin with every intention of spoiling the 46-year-old homecoming. Nevertheless, the Grifone were unsuccessful, as the Bianconeri controlled the action from start to finish. ............

Tudor’s arrival was greeted by a ‘welcome’ banner from the Curva Sud ultras, who decided to cut short their protest and resume their full support to the team, as they didn’t wish to spoil the return of their old loyalist. ............

After saluting his supporters, the new manager looked both agitated and lively on the sidelines. In fact, the match official had to instruct him to stick to this technical area after surpassing the boundaries on several occasions, as he seemed eager to get as close to the action as possible.

In fact, Tudor did indeed play an important part in the action. The coach instigated the play that led to Kenan Yildiz’s goal, as he rapidly picked up the ball on the sidelines and threw it to Teun Koopmeiners while instructing him to play a quick throwball, which certainly paid dividends.

In the second half, the Juventus manager contested some dubious refereeing decisions, which earned him a booking. But in the end, he enthusiastically celebrated the win at the final whistle, rounding off a truly animated first appearance at the Allianz.

Antonio Conte’s future at Napoli seems far from certain, with Juventus closely monitoring his situation and reportedly ready to welcome him back if his frustration ultimately leads to an exit from the Stadio Diego Maradona. ............

Both Juventus and Milan are keeping a close eye on Conte’s relationship with Napoli, with the Bianconeri prepared to move swiftly if he signals his desire to leave.

Juventus have just appointed Igor Tudor to replace Thiago Motta but have given the Croatian coach a short-term deal, keeping all options open for next summer.

Conte’s potential availability to return to the Allianz Stadium would completely shift the scenario for his former club, which would reportedly be eager to bring him back, given his deep ties to the Bianconeri and familiarity with the club’s environment. ............

Meanwhile, Napoli are aware of the uncertainty surrounding their current manager’s future, which is why they are already evaluating possible replacements, with Allegri and Gian Piero Gasperini among Aurelio De Laurentiis’ preferred candidates to succeed Conte.

Can Igor Tudor navigate the final stretch successfully?

Tudor drukt direct zijn stempel bij succesvol debuut voor Juventus - Voetbal International

 ............

Tudor’s immediate challenge lies in balancing pragmatism with his preferred three-at-the-back system. The absence of three senior centre-backs has forced improvisation, such as deploying wing-back Cambiaso in central roles or relying on unproven recruits like Lloyd Kelly. While these adjustments secured a nervy win over Genoa, the lack of cohesion risks unravelling against Serie A’s sharper attacks. Compounding matters, midfield absences have disrupted transition play, leaving gaps that opponents like Roma will exploit. ............

Critics argue the medical department must shoulder some blame. Despite modernising facilities, recurring muscular injuries—from hamstrings to fractures—suggest systemic flaws in workload management or recovery protocols. For Tudor, the solution may lie in rotating his limited resources more shrewdly, prioritising key fixtures while accepting squad limitations.

As the season reaches its climax, Tudor’s adaptability will be scrutinised. Can he forge unity from chaos, or will Juventus’ patched-up XI falter under pressure? ............

Tudor’s legacy, and Juventus’ season, now depend on navigating a minefield with dwindling tools.

Tardelli says Tudor has already changed Juventus mentality

Juventus boss Igor Tudor: “We could have scored more”

Igor Tudor has been in charge of Juventus for just around two weeks, and this weekend, he will manage the team against AS Roma in what will be only his second game in charge.

The Bianconeri manager is determined to secure a victory against Roma, and with the players at his disposal, he believes this is very much achievable. Juventus now boasts one of the most valuable squads in Europe, and their players are working hard to make the most of every opportunity they receive. ............

Tudor has brought new ideas to Juventus, and the players must adopt these swiftly if they are to secure a top-four finish. ............

Marco Tardelli, a Juventus legend, has spoken about the changes Tudor has made, particularly in terms of the team’s mentality. Tardelli has expressed his belief that Tudor is already having a positive impact on the squad: “With Tudor, we have already seen another mentality, one he knows perfectly well having played in the Bianconeri area. He has made important choices, focusing forward on Vlahovic and Yildiz, two players who are hungry for revenge. I see a determined team, a coach who knows how to communicate with us, who has managed to get into the players’ heads and together with them he will be able to bring Juventus back where it belongs.” ............

How Igor Tudor is slowly transforming Juventus behind the scenes

Tudor, la verità in faccia a Motta: "Ora pedaliamo". E su Totti...

Igor Tudor is fully aware that he has only a short window in which to turn Juventus’ fortunes around and guide the club into the top four of Serie A, thereby securing qualification for next season’s Champions League. ............

There is considerable hope among the supporters and within the club hierarchy that the Bianconeri can avoid the embarrassment of missing out on Champions League football next term. ............

Tudor is already making tangible changes to the team’s daily routine and tactical approach. The report notes that he has been highly vocal in demanding more from the players, aiming to instil a greater sense of urgency and commitment across the squad. As part of this effort, he has reportedly doubled the number of training sessions per day, indicating a desire to increase both fitness and focus in a limited timeframe. ............

In terms of tactical philosophy, Tudor has moved away from the possession-based approach favoured by his predecessor, as was evident in the 1-0 win over Genoa. Under Motta, the team placed significant emphasis on retaining the ball, but Tudor has now instructed his side to adopt a more direct style of play. This shift is intended to maximise attacking efficiency and reduce the amount of time spent in build-up phases.

With only a handful of matches remaining, Tudor faces a considerable challenge. ............
