Juventus vs Cagliari: Preview and Prediction

Juventus vs Cagliari - Serie A 2024/25 | 6 Oktober 2024

Juventus are riding high after back-to-back away wins and will return to their home ground on Sunday to face a struggling Cagliari side. With momentum in their favour, the Bianconeri are now within reach of the Serie A summit, and their latest victory, a thrilling five-goal encounter against RB Leipzig in the Champions League, further boosted their confidence.

Meanwhile, Cagliari head into this match fresh off their first league win of the season, which has lifted their spirits and helped them climb out of the relegation zone. Under the guidance of head coach Thiago Motta, Juventus showcased their resilience and determination in their UEFA Champions League clash with RB Leipzig. ............

Juve’s defence has been rock solid, allowing very few chances and goals across all competitions. However, the injury to Bremer will be a blow as they prepare for Cagliari. On the other hand, Cagliari’s recent form has been less impressive, but they finally broke their winless streak with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Parma. Goals from Nadir Zortea, Razvan Marin, and a late match-winner from Roberto Piccoli helped Davide Nicola’s men get their first Serie A win of the season.

While their defence has struggled, conceding goals regularly, they will hope to build on their latest win as they head to Turin. However, facing Juventus, who have dominated them in recent years, will be a daunting task. Historically, Cagliari have had a tough time against the Turin giants, losing 12 of their last 14 league meetings.

Juventus will look to extend their perfect defensive record in Serie A this season, having kept a clean sheet in each of their first six matches. Cagliari, meanwhile, will need to find some attacking inspiration to break down one of Europe’s most disciplined defences. The Hard Tackle delves into the potential elevens and tactics for this highly-anticipated clash.

Team News & Tactics

Juventus

Juventus will likely line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Michele Di Gregorio starting between the posts. Danilo and Andrea Cambiaso are expected to occupy the full-back positions, while Pierre Kalulu and Federico Gatti will form the central defensive partnership, stepping in for the injured Gleison Bremer.

Manuel Locatelli and Weston McKennie are expected to hold the midfield in a double-pivot role, providing balance and support.

Further up the field, Francisco Conceicao, who played a key role in midweek, could slot into the right-wing position, with Teun Koopmeiners operating centrally and Kenan Yildiz on the left. Leading the attack will be Dusan Vlahovic, who has a strong track record against Cagliari and will look to add to his impressive goal tally.

Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Danilo, Kalulu, Gatti, Cambiaso; Locatelli, McKennie; Conceicao, Koopmeiners, Yildiz; Vlahovic

Juventus vs Cagliari: Preview and Prediction.

Cagliari

Unavailable for this match are key players Mateusz Wieteska, who remains sidelined, and forwards Leonardo Pavoletti and Gianluca Lapadula, both of whom are significant doubts due to injury concerns. These absences could leave the visitors a bit short-handed, especially in the forward positions.

Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1): Scuffet; Zappa, Mina, Luperto, Obert; Makoumbou, Marin; Zortea, Gaetano, Luvumbo; Piccoli

Juventus vs Cagliari: Preview and Prediction.

Key Stats

  • Juventus have won 12 of their last 14 Serie A matches (D1 L1) against Cagliari, scoring at least two goals in 12 games during this period, including exactly two goals in each of their last four encounters.
  • Juventus have won each of their last seven Serie A home games against Cagliari, keeping a clean sheet in five of those matches. Among teams currently in top-flight, only Venezia have a longer home winning streak against a single opponent than Juventus’ 10 home wins in a row.
  • Juventus will play a ‘lunchtime match’ in Serie A for the first time since March 2024. Prior to their last game at 12:30, Juventus had won their six previous matches played in this timeslot, scoring at least two goals in each of those games.
  • Juventus have kept a clean sheet in each of their first six Serie A games this season, marking the first time they have achieved this feat in their top-flight history. Only three teams have managed to keep clean sheets in their first seven Serie A matches of a season, including AC Milan in 1993/94, Cagliari in 1966/67, and Bologna in 1946/47. ............

Player to Watch

Dusan Vlahovic

Dusan Vlahovic has been in fine form for Juventus this season, and his record against Cagliari makes him the standout player to watch in this encounter. The Serbian striker has scored six goals in nine Serie A appearances against the Sardinian side, including two direct free kicks. ............

Prediction

Juventus 2-0 Cagliari

Given Juventus’s stellar defensive record and their dominance over Cagliari in recent years, it is hard to see anything other than a home victory. The Bianconeri have kept clean sheets in all of their Serie A matches so far, and Cagliari’s struggles to score regularly, especially against top-tier opponents, make it likely they will be shut out again.

With Dusan Vlahovic in excellent form and the home advantage at Allianz Stadium, Juventus should have enough firepower to secure a comfortable 2-0 win.

Two penalties and a red card as Cagliari earns a point at Juventus

Vlahovic-Cagliari.jpg

Juventus dropped two points in a frustrating 1-1 draw against a resilient Cagliari side this afternoon.

The in-form Bianconeri started the match as the dominant team, aiming to build on their two-game winning streak. Their early pressure paid off when they were awarded a penalty, which Dusan Vlahovic converted to continue his fine run of form.

After taking the lead, Juventus pushed for a second goal, with Teun Koopmeiners coming close, but the Cagliari goalkeeper made a crucial save. ............

Despite their dominance, Juventus couldn’t add to their lead before halftime. Cagliari defended well, but Juventus’ inability to capitalise on their chances also played a role in the lack of a second goal. ............

Juventus failed to score again, and their missed chances came back to haunt them. Razvan Marin equalized for Cagliari from the penalty spot after a poor tackle by Douglas Luiz.

Things worsened for Juventus when Conceição received a second yellow card for simulation and was sent off. Despite being down to ten men, Juventus continued to dominate but couldn’t find the winner, leaving them to settle for a draw and shared points with their visitors.

Video – Watch Vlahovic and teammates dedicate goal to Bremer

bremer-vlahovic.jpg

Dusan Vlahovic gave Juventus the lead against Cagliari this afternoon with a penalty and immediately dedicated the goal to his injured teammate, Gleison Bremer.

The Brazilian defender sustained a long-term injury earlier this week during Juventus’ Champions League match against RB Leipzig, and it appears he may miss the rest of the season. ............

After scoring, Vlahovic quickly ran to the touchline, grabbed a Juventus shirt with Bremer’s name on it, and held it up in tribute.

It was a heartwarming moment that showed how much the team cares for their injured teammate. ............

Douglas Luiz caused a penalty kick for the second game in a row at Juventus, while Dusan Vlahvic scored his fifth goal in a week but missed an incredible chance in the second half, minutes before Cagliari‘s equaliser. ............

They had taken the lead in the first half with Vlahovic’s fifth goal in three games, but the Serbian could have made it six in the second half when he pounced on a rebound but sent the ball wide with Simone Scuffet unable to get on the ball.

Cagliari left the ball to Juventus, finishing the match with 26% possession. ............

Juventus 1-1 Cagliari – player ratings

Juventus: Di Gregorio 6; Savona 6 (70′ Danilo 5.5), Kalulu 6.5, Gatti 6.5, Cambiaso 5.5; Locatelli 6 (62′ McKennie 5.5), Thuram 5.5 (62′ Douglas Luiz 4.5); Conceicao 5, Koopmeiners 6 (46′ Fagioli 6), Mbangula 5 (77′ Yildiz 5.5); Vlahovic 5.5. Coach: Motta 5.5.

Best Juventus players: Kalulu and Gatti 6.5 – Juventus can still rely on a solid defensive partnership despite Gleison Bremer’s injury. However, it wasn’t enough to keep a seventh consecutive clean sheet in Serie A.

Lowest Juventus rating – Douglas Luiz 4.5 – Another appearance as a substitute and another penalty kick caused. This time, it was clear as he came steaming into Roberto Piccoli. A €50m signing in the summer. A disaster, for now.

Coach: Thiago Motta 5.5 – Juventus were a bit tired after Wednesday’s victory in Leipzig. Kenan Yildiz rested, Teun Koopmeiners was not fully fit and was replaced at the break. Despite Vlahovic’s big chance in the second half, Juventus didn’t create much more.

Cagliari: Scuffet 6.5; Zappa 6.5, Mina 7, Luperto 7, Obert 6.5; Makoumbou 6.5 (65′ Marin 7), Adopo 6.5 (77′ Deiola); Zortea 6 (77′ Mutandwa 6), Viola 5.5 (57′ Gaetano 6), Augello 6 (57′ Luvumbo 6.6); Piccoli 7 Coach: All. Nicola 6.5. ............

Thiago Motta: “We managed the game instead of attacking. Vlahovics’ miss? It happens to everyone”

Thiago Motta: Juventus 'did everything' in frantic 1-1 draw against Cagliari

Juventus manager Thiago Motta expressed his disappointment following his team’s 1-1 draw against Cagliari, highlighting missed opportunities and a lack of attacking intent. The Bianconeri led for most of the match but conceded a late equalizer, marking their first goal allowed in Serie A this season.

Motta began by analyzing the team’s performance: “We controlled the game in the first half, but we managed instead of attacking. In the second half, we created chances but didn’t finish them. There was always a feeling that Cagliari could get back into the game. We did almost everything ourselves.”

Addressing Dusan Vlahovic’s missed opportunity, Motta showed understanding: “You don’t say anything to strikers in such situations, it’s a game situation. It happens. There are other things we need to do better to compete and continue growing in our journey.” ............

Regarding Douglas Luiz conceding another penalty, Motta stressed the importance of collective effort: “We’ll need to give even more every day. Both him and everyone else, there will be positive things for him in the future as well.” ............

Juventus Player Ratings vs Cagliari: Douglas Luiz Impedes the Old Lady Again

Serie A | Juventus 1-1 Cagliari: Old Lady pays the penalty as VAR rules

Juventus (4-2-3-1)

Michele Di Gregorio – 6

 ............

Nicolò Savona – 6

A solid performance from the Juventus youngster. Although he didn’t have a major impact in attack, he did well to limit the danger of Tommaso Augello and Ziti Luvumbo.

Pierre Kalulu – 6.5

The Milan loanee was largely untroubled at the back. Looked sharp and composed as ever.

Federico Gatti – 6.5

The Juventus captain prevailed in most of his duels, especially against Roberto Piccoli. He also did well to push his teammates forward.

Andrea Cambiaso – 6

 ............

Manuel Locatelli – 6.5

Juventus looked much more solid with the former Sassuolo man on the pitch. He did well to shield the backline and pile pressure on the opposition.

Khephren Thuram – 6

 ............

Francisco Conceicao – 5

The Portuguese winger saw much of the ball but didn’t produce his usual scintillating dribbles. Left Juventus with a man down after receiving a second yellow card for simulation.

Teun Koopmeiners – 6

The former Atalanta man won back possession in dangerous areas on several occasions and combined well with Vlahovic. However, his final touch is still leaving much to be desired.

Samuel Mbangula – 5.5

The young Belgian formed a triangle with Cambiaso and Thuram, but hardly made himself noticed.

Dusan Vlahovic – 6

A mixed bag from the Serbian who converted the spot-kick expertly, but should have bagged at least another goal, especially when he found himself in front of an open net.

Substitutes

Nicolò Fagioli – 6

A decent showing from the Italian who kept the ball rolling in midfield, but not quite as influential as his most recent showing against Leipzig.

Weston McKennie – 5.5

 ............

Douglas Luiz – 5

For the second match in a row, the Brazilian gave away a spot-kick after entering the pitch in the second half. His early-season struggles are leaving Juventus fans puzzled.

Danilo – N/A

Kenan Yildiz – N/A

Gatti rues Cagliari draw: “No excuses, It could return to haunt us”

Juventus-Cagliari 1-1, le pagelle: Douglas Luiz, che errore (4), Vlahovic segna ma si divora il gol del ko (6)

Juventus stand-in captain Federico Gatti insists his team cannot offer any excuses for dropping points at home against Cagliari.

The Bianconeri shared the spoils for the fourth time this season, and the third at home. Despite taking an early lead through a Dusan Vlahovic spot-kick, they failed to put the match to bed. ............

For his part, Gatti feels these two squandered points could return to haunt the Old Lady at some stage during the campaign.

“There are no excuses for the result,” said the 26-year-old in his post-match interview.

“These are home games that must be won, we threw away two points that could return to haunt us in the long run.” ............

“Bremer will be missing because he is one of the best defenders in the world. It’s a major loss, so we all have to give more for him, for the team, for the club and the fans.

“You can’t draw a game like that, but this result must help us mature”.

“I’m sorry for the unbeaten run, but even more for the result as well as for Francisco’s expulsion. He’s a very important player for us and we can’t fall into these mistakes. We must all improve.” ............

Motta to use McKennie in a new role against Lazio

mckennie-v-psv.jpg

Juventus could be without several key players when club football resumes, as they prepare to face Lazio next weekend. ............

As Juventus plans for the match, one key player will be Weston McKennie. The American has gone from the verge of leaving the club to becoming a vital player once again. So far this season, he has primarily played as a central midfielder under Thiago Motta.

However, McKennie is likely to be deployed in a different role against Lazio, with Motta reportedly planning to use him as a right winger. The coach believes McKennie could be crucial in limiting the impact of Nuno Tavares, who has been in excellent form, providing numerous assists this season. ............

Juventus winger expected to return from injury for Lazio showdown

seiccblrkk15diivmj48.jpg

Juventus should receive a timely boost ahead of their clash against Lazio, as Timothy Weah is tipped to make his return to action. ............

The 24-year-old then made a couple of appearances off the bench before picking up an ankle problem that ruled him out of action in the last two weeks. ............

The New York City native has been showing signs of improvement in recent days.

Therefore, the source tips him to receive a call-up for the first Juventus fixture after the international break. The Bianconeri will host Lazio at the Allianz Stadium on October 19th.

This will be an important boost for Thiago Motta who will have to do without the influential Francisco Conceicao. ............

More injury woes for Juventus as Fagioli returns from Italy camp with a knock

oekfcddelsbvhyxqj4ox.jpg

Juventus can sound the alarm bells in the middle of the park, as Nicolo Fagioli is also at risk of missing the upcoming clash against Lazio.

The Bianconeri are already without Teun Koopmeiners who fractured his rib and Weston McKennie who returned from international duty while carrying an injury, albeit a slight one. Therefore, the last thing Juventus needed at the moment was another blow in the middle of the park. ............

The 24-year-old reportedly picked up a knock during a training session in the Italy camp. Although it didn’t stop him from starting against Israel on Monday night, he only lasted for 45 minutes before being replaced at halftime by Torino midfielder Samuele Ricci. ............

Fagioli’s condition isn’t serious, but the pain has persisted over the past few days. Therefore, the Cremonese native might be forced to skip Saturday’s Serie A contest against Lazio which will take place at the Allianz Stadium in Turin. ............

There could be some space for Vasilije Adzic to make his debut, especially with Nico Gonzalez out with an injury and Francisco Conceicao serving a one-match ban. ............

Preview: Juventus vs. Lazio - prediction, team news, lineups

Lazio-HOME.jpg

Locked together on 13 points in the Serie A standings, Calcio heavyweights Juventus and Lazio will fight it out for three points on Saturday night, when the teams meet in Turin. ............

Match preview

Unable to reproduce a thrilling finale to their Champions League win against RB Leipzig just a few days earlier, Juventus could only claim one point from their most recent outing, at home to Serie A strugglers Cagliari. ............

The draw denied Thiago Motta's men a chance to move back into second place, but they remain within three points of leaders Napoli and are still to taste defeat in the 2024-25 campaign.

Meeting his new club's aim to lower their age profile, Motta has also made Juventus the team with the second-youngest average age in Serie A this season, only behind promoted Parma, with academy graduates Nicolo Savona and Samuel Mbangula again starting versus Cagliari.

However, they have now failed to win any of their last three top-flight matches at the Allianz Stadium, continuing a trend that started under former boss Allegri: in 2024, Juventus have drawn 14 of 27 league games, which is more than any other team throughout Europe's top five leagues.

They will head into their latest home assignment confident of victory, though, as the weight of history is firmly on their side against Lazio - Juve have lost just one of the clubs' last 20 Serie A meetings in Turin, winning 15. ............

Team News

Not only will Juventus be without long-term absentees Arkadiusz Milik and Bremer, both of whom underwent knee surgery earlier this month, but summer signings Teun Koopmeiners and Nico Gonzalez are also ruled out of Saturday's game.

Furthermore, midfield duo Weston McKennie and Nicolo Fagioli returned from international duty carrying minor injuries, and Portugal forward Francisco Conceicao must serve a one-match ban.

Thiago Motta will have Tim Weah back in the fold following the winger's return from an ankle injury, but some reshuffling of his resources is therefore required.

Sure to start up front, Dusan Vlahovic could score in four consecutive appearances for the first time since joining Juve; the Serbian striker has previously scored six goals in seven league appearances against Lazio (two headers, two right-footed and two with his left). ............

Juventus possible starting lineup:
Di Gregorio; Savona, Kalulu, Gatti, Cabal; Locatelli, Thuram; Cambiaso, Yildiz, Mbangula; Vlahovic

Lazio possible starting lineup:
Provedel; Marusic, Gila, Romagnoli, Tavares; Rovella, Guendouzi; Isaksen, Dia, Zaccagni; Castellanos

We say: Juventus 1-1 Lazio

With a number of players unavailable, Juventus may have to put up with another single-point haul, as Lazio seem to be heading in the right direction and have scored freely this season.

A share of the spoils would keep both teams in touch with the Serie A pace-setters, and neither would be too dissatisfied to walk away with a draw.

Serie A Preview: Juventus vs Lazio – Team News, Line-ups & Prediction

Juventus_Lazio_Preview.jpg

Saturday’s Serie A program closes out with a heavyweight clash between familiar foes Juventus and Lazio at the Allianz Stadium. With nothing but goal difference separating the teams ahead of the kick-off, victory feels imperative for both sides to back up their lofty ambitions.

Not long after halting an uneventful run of three consecutive scoreless draws in Serie A with a scintillating 3-0 away win against Genoa, Juventus slipped again. Conceding a late penalty against warm relegation candidates Cagliari condemned Thiago Motta’s side to a lackluster 1-1 home draw on the stroke of October’s international break.

That result gave the former Bologna manager plenty to think about, especially as his men blew a perfect opportunity to register three successive league wins for the first time this term. On top of that, it helped early pacesetters Napoli increase the distance to three points, fuelling concerns in Turin during the pause. ............

Match Preview

Juventus

Sharing the spoils has been a running theme for Juventus this season, with over 50% of their Serie A outings ending all square (W3, D4). While that could be unfamiliar territory for the Bianconeri, Motta had become an expert for stalemates during his remarkable stint at Bologna.

It’s perhaps difficult to fathom, yet the 42-year-old has overseen nine draws across his last 15 league matches as a manager. With six yielding a tepid 0-0 scoreline, it’s only natural to assume those in attendance at the Allianz Stadium cannot expect a goal fest.

Against this backdrop, the last five Serie A meetings between Juventus and Lazio in Turin have produced at least three goals, highlighting the potential for a high-scoring contest. Fans probably wouldn’t mind a less attractive affair if it means their side ends a three-game winless home league streak (D3).

That’s Juventus’ longest wait for a home win in Serie A since 2015. ............

Team News

A sizeable list of high-profile absentees has been part of Motta’s undoing during his early Juventus tenure. Gleison Bremer, Nicolas Gonzalez, and Teun Koopmeiners have joined Paul Pogba, Timothy Weah, and Arkadiusz Milik on the sidelines, while Francisco Conceicao remains unavailable through suspension.

On the bright side, Weston McKennie should be ready to feature despite minor injury concerns. ............

Juventus vs Lazio Potential Line-ups

Juventus (4-2-3-1): Michele Di Gregorio; Andrea Cambiaso, Federico Gatti, Pierre Kalulu, Danilo; Khephren Thuram, Manuel Locatelli; Kenan Yildiz, Douglas Luiz, Samuel Mbangula; Dusan Vlahovic.

Lazio (4-2-3-1): Ivan Provedel; Nuno Tavares, Alessio Romagnoli, Mario Gila, Manuel Lazzari; Matteo Guendouzi, Nicolo Rovella; Tijjani Noslin, Boulaye Dia, Mattia Zaccagni; Taty Castellanos.

Juventus vs Lazio Prediction

Given an ominous-looking injury list, Juventus can draw confidence from Dusan Vlahovic’s return to form. The Serbian striker has bagged three goals in his last two appearances. However, Lazio’s well-oiled attacking machine is no idle threat.

Therefore, we’re inclined to believe a scoring draw could be on the cards on Saturday evening.

Prediction: Draw

Motta demands his team earn results from their performances

LIVE H 13 | Press Conference | Thiago Motta previews Juventus - Lazio

Juventus has enjoyed a strong start to the season under the guidance of Thiago Motta, who is finding early success in his managerial tenure.  ............

What sets Motta apart is his commitment to a balanced approach to the game. Contrary to the defensive mindset that characterized Max Allegri’s reign, Motta has emphasised the importance of attacking football without sacrificing the defensive solidity that has traditionally been a hallmark of Juventus. ............

Ahead of a crucial match against Lazio, Motta articulated his vision for the team, underscoring the significance of performance over mere aesthetics. He said: “I want to see the performance, and it leads you to the result. I never wanted the performance for aesthetics. I blindly believe that teams that play well have a greater chance of winning.” ............

Motta further elaborated on his expectations by highlighting the importance of various aspects of play: “By playing well I mean many things. Defending well, pressing well, regrouping, having humility, generosity, having a block and staying together.” This holistic approach to football not only aims for immediate results but also seeks to instil a sense of unity and purpose within the squad. ............

Former Lazio star admits Juventus will be too tough for them if one thing happens

juve-lazio1.jpg

Juventus is set to face Lazio this weekend in a highly anticipated Serie A clash, with both teams eager to extend their strong start to the season. The Bianconeri have emerged as one of the most resilient sides in the league, with a solid defence and a dynamic attack, making them a tough opponent for any team. Lazio, too, has shown impressive form, and they will be looking to take advantage of Juventus’ potential vulnerabilities due to the absence of several key players. ............

Ernesto Calisti, a former Lazio star, has expressed concern about his former club’s chances, citing the challenge of overcoming Juventus’ defensive strength. ............

“It’s a difficult match, we don’t have a favourable tradition against Juventus. It’s true that they will have many absences, but their squad is always very strong. They have an excellent defence, if they score you can’t score anymore. Lazio plays well, offensively, and must not lose their nature. It will be a good test to understand the strength of our team.” ............

Serie A PREVIEW | Juventus v Lazio

Juventus vs Lazio Prediction - Serie A - 19/10/2024

Tied at 13 points, Juventus and Lazio lock horns at the Allianz Stadium to gain an advantage over each other.

Juventus arrive at this match as the only undefeated side in Serie A this season. ............

Thiago Motta played a key role in introducing academy players to first-team action during this campaign as he fielded Nicolo Savona and Samuel Mbangula against Cagliari.

While Juventus boasts a formidable record, they have failed to win each of their last three home matches in the Serie A. Such runs have previously proved fatal to the Old Lady and they will hope to come away with a win this weekend over Lazio. ............

Team News

Thiago Motta confirmed the absences of Teun Koopmeiners, Arkadiusz Milik, Gleison Bremer, Nico Gonzalez, Weston McKennie and Francisco Conceicao for the match.

Nicolo Fagioli and Timothy Weah are eligible for selection.

Apart from Manuel Lazzari, Marco Baroni is set to have a full contingent available to play this weekend. ............

Predicted XIs

Juventus (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Savona, Kalulu, Gatti, Cabal; Locatelli, Thuram; Cambiaso, Yildiz, Mbangula; Vlahovic

Lazio (4-2-3-1): Provedel; Marusic, Gila, Romagnoli, Tavares; Rovella, Guendouzi; Isaksen, Dia, Zaccagni; Castellanos.

Juventus leave it late to beat 10 men Lazio in Turin

Juventus 1-0 Lazio: Late Gila own goal breaks 10-man visitors' resistance | beIN SPORTS

Juventus secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Lazio, marking one of their toughest wins this season.

The Bianconeri started brightly, stringing together some slick passes that challenged Lazio’s defence, though the visitors managed to keep Juve at bay. ............

Juventus looked set to score, but Pierre Kalulu was fouled just outside the box, leading to Alessio Romagnoli’s red card following a VAR review.

Dusan Vlahovic missed the target with the ensuing free kick, and despite their numerical advantage, Juventus struggled to convert their dominance into a goal. Lazio’s defence held firm, while Juve squandered several opportunities. ............

Juventus continued to struggle offensively in the second half, prompting Motta to introduce Nicolo Fagioli and Timothy Weah. The move almost paid off immediately, but Vlahovic’s shot rebounded off the crossbar.

Juve dominated all attacking metrics except scoring, with Douglas Luiz missing a golden opportunity to head in the opener. ............

However, Mario Gila inadvertently turned Juan Cabal’s dangerous cross into his own net, finally breaking Lazio’s resistance and giving Juventus the lead.

Lazio then shifted to a more attacking approach, but it was too late. ............

Juventus closed out the match with another win and a clean sheet.

Juventus Player Ratings vs Lazio: Kalulu Enthralls Again

Kalulu: «Avrei segnato se non mi avessero fermato» FOTO

Juventus (4-2-3-1)

Michele Di Gregorio – 6.5

Another clean sheet for the Italy international who didn’t have a dangerous save to make, but was always alert to the danger.

Nicolò Savona – 6

A no-nonsense pefrormance from the young right-back who held his own against Mattia Zaccagni, but was unlucky to receive a booking for a tackle on Nuno Tavares despite reaching the ball first.

Pierre Kalulu –  7.5

The Milan loanee was the difference maker yet again. His menacing run from the left flank towards the box led to Romagnoli’s dismissal after forcing the Lazio defender to commit a foul. He was also superb at the back.

Federico Gatti – 6.5

 ............

Juan Cabal – 7

The new Juventus signing will take the credit for the own-goal as his squared ball towards the mouth of the goal sparked the fumble. An encouraging showing overall.

Manuel Locatelli – 5.5

 ............

Khephren Thuram – 6.5

The Frenchman was all over the pitch, and managed to cause havoc for Lazio in the final third. However, he lacked the final touch at times, and his impact dwindled as the match progressed.

Andrea Cambiaso – 6

The versatile star was the Juventus captain on the night, but didn’t seem quite comfortable on the right flank. His best moment ensued when he provided a sublime cross for Gatti from the left wing.

Douglas Luiz – 5.5

 ............

Kenan Yildiz – 5.5

The Turkish teenager didn’t see much of the ball and was isolated at times. His flashes of brilliance were very few and far between.

Dusan Vlahovic – 6.5

A positive display from the Serbian, even if it lacked the customary goal against Lazio. Put Kalulu through on goal with a brilliant touch, but was unluck to miss the net on the ensuing freekick and then hit the woodwork in the second half. Picked up Cabal just before the own-goal.

Substitutes

Nicolò Fagioli – 6

The Italian proved to be a upgrade on his compatriot Locatelli, particularly in the attacking phase, as his introduction fastened the Old Lady’s tempo.

Timothy Weah – 6

 ............

Danilo – 6

The original Juventus captain showcased his great experience while injecting some much-needed determination and tenacity.

Vasilije Adzic – 6.5

An impressive Serie A debut from the Montenegrin teenager who threatened Ivan Provedel with a dangerous shot.

Juventus 1 - Lazio 0: Initial reaction and random observations

Juventus-Lazio 1-0: un'autorete di Gila lancia Motta, aggancio a Conte in vetta

I can’t remember the exact point of Saturday night’s game against Lazio where I didn’t really care how Juventus scored just as long as they did score. ............

Then Juan Cabal, a player we have not seen appear in a game in many weeks, sent in one of the most dangerous crosses we’ve seen all game long. And, against a tired defense, all of the good Lazio had done to not break finally washed away in a split second.

Juventus finally got the lead they had sought against 10-man Lazio when Cabal’s cross into the 6-yard box turned into an own goal off Mario Gila’s boot and past a helpless Ivan Provedel in goal. It gave Juventus a 1-0 win over the visitors from Rome on a night that would have left just about everybody wearing something Juventus-related in the stadium wondering what the heck happened after the Bianconeri played all but 24 minutes with a man advantage after Alessio Romagnoli was sent off midway through the first half.

It had all the makings of one of those frustrating results that we’ve seen from Thiago Motta’s side a decent amount already this season. The biggest of chances weren’t put away, with Dusan Vlahovic and Douglas Luiz missing quality scoring opportunities within a few minutes of one another. ............

Good thing they head back to the Champions League in a few days because that seems to be the only place where they’re scoring goals and putting away their chances on a consistent basis. Just like what we thought would be the case when this season kicked off, right?

This game, it remains somewhat confusing even when you think you’ve got it figured out.

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Pre-game thought No. 1: The Thiago Motta rotation of captains on full display! Even with Federico Gatti in the starting lineup, Andrea Cambiaso was the one leading the team out of the tunnel with the captain’s armband on his bicep for the first time. ............
  • Thiago Motta’s celebration on the own goal made me smile. I love him and how much passion he’s brought back to this club after more than few years of frustration. ............
  • This is your reminder that Milan were totally OK with loaning a player like Kalulu out to a direct rival and he has delivered time and time again. What a signing. ............
  • Di Gregorio had almost as many touches as Kenan Yildiz. I don’t like the sound of that.
  • I get that Yildiz loves to drift out wide and then cut in because his dribbling ability is one of his best assets to hurt a defense, but you just feel sometimes that Yildiz gets wasted out wide on a full-time basis. Maybe in a game like this where Lazio is packing so many numbers deep and trying to clog the central channel isn’t the best for Yildiz to get lost in the muck, but there were more than a few times where I was left wondering what the young Turk was up to because so much of the second half was right-wing dominated. ............
  • Hey, it’s Vasilije Adžić! Welcome to the show!
  • It was a short cameo, but seeing Adžić in his debut makes you want to see his playing time happen a little more often. He has to actually stay healthy, of course, but boy is that an 18-year-old kid who really doesn’t look 18 years old at all. ............
  • A little bit better luck and Vlahovic’s shot that hit the under part of the crossbar saves us from a lot of stress on this day. Them’s the breaks sometimes, I suppose.
  • At least all of that stress didn’t leave us with the feeling of two points dropped. Juve got the win. Sure, it’s far from a pretty win, but it’s a win and after so many draws already this season, maybe this is the moment where the luck starts to turn a little bit.

Juventus player ratings v Lazio – midfielder gets the highest rating

Cambiaso, fascia e tre punti: l'esterno al settimo cielo

Michele di Gregorio – 6.5

Because Juve dominated most of the game, he did not have much work to do, but he made at least one key save.

Nicolo Savona – 7.0

It was another good performance from the young fullback who did not give Danilo a chance to return to the team.

Federico Gatti – 6.5

 ............

Pierre Kalulu – 7.0

He keeps getting better, and his surging run caused the red card. He could be Juve’s Player of the Season.

Juan Cabal 7.0

He was given another starting opportunity in the team and impressed as he defended well and his cross was deflected for the goal.

Manuel Locatelli – 7.0

 ............

Khephren Thuram – 7.0

 ............

Andrea Cambiaso – 8.0

He was Juventus’ best player on the night. He defended well, and when he attacked, it caused Lazio all kinds of problems.

Douglas Luiz – 6.5

It was a busy performance from Luiz, and he performed better than before, but there has to be more to the Brazilian midfielder.

Kenan Yildiz – 6.0

He seems to struggle on the right wing and would rather play behind the striker. However, he had a good game, which caused Lazio’s defence to panic whenever he had the ball.

Dusan Vlahovic – 6.5

This was one of those matches where the ball just wouldn’t go in for him, and if he plays this way again, he will score in the next game.

Substitutes

Nicolo Fagioli – 6.5

Added some creativity to the Juventus midfield and helped them maintain control of the game.

Timothy Weah – 7.0

 ............

Vasilije Adzic – 6.5

It is great to finally see him in a Juve shirt. He was composed and confident on the ball and nearly scored the game’s second goal.

Danilo – 6.0

His experience helped to keep the defence focused as Juve pressed for the winner.

Motta talks important win over Lazio, reveals why Cambiaso was the captain, praises Danilo

slvfqis8mszheyjwsivs.jpg

Juventus ended their three-match winless streak in Serie A at home by earning a hard-fought victory over 10-man Lazio.

The Bianconeri had the numerical advantage for most of the encounter following Alessio Romagnoli’s red card, but none of their players managed to put the ball in the back of the net. Eventually, it was Mario Gila who “beat” his own goalkeeper with an all-advised interception to direct Juan Cabal’s pass towards goal.

Nevertheless, Thiago Motta still cherished the important victory over a tough opponent.

“It is an important and deserved victory against a team that plays very well,” noted the 42-year-old in his post-match press conference ............

“Often with crosses that come from the flanks, it is difficult for defenders to deal with it. It happens that an own-goal occurred. It was a difficult match against a complicated opponent.”

“I’m very proud of everyone. After Bremer’s injury, we talked about how we all need to give something more and they are showing it every day. ............

For the first time, Andrea Cambiaso donned the captain’s armband. Motta applauded the 24-year-old for his great versatility and positive attitude, but insisted he still has major room for improvement.

At the moment, Andrea is showing that he is improving every day, playing in different positions, doing it well, with a great attitude. It is not easy. ............

“Danilo changed the match. He did very well, he changed the pace with his energy at the back which was what we needed.

“Starting the action from behind well helps the offensive phase. I’m happy for him and for the team.”

Juventus set impressive new club record in victory over Lazio

rroaqjj0lriroxzxlann.jpg

On Saturday night, Juventus emerged victorious from their Serie A contest against Lazio who were reduced to 10-man following Alessio Romagnoli’s dismissal. ............

After the match, the official Juventus website revealed some of the most interesting stats and facts registered in the aftermath, and it includes an impressive club record.

After eight Serie A outings, the Bianconeri have only allowed a single goal (a penalty kick against Cagliari). So as the source explains, this is the first time the club concedes so little at this stage of the season. They had previously shipped in two goals in each of the 1966/67, 1986/87, 2004/05 and 2005/06 campaigns.

The Turin-based giants have thus raised their clean-sheet tally to 44 over the past three seasons (since 2022/23). Only Barcelona (46) have recorded more shutouts over the same period in Europe’s Top Five Leagues. ............

Finally, Vasilije Adzic made his Juventus debut after overcoming a few injury hurdles. He becomes the sixth player born after 2002 to feature for the club this season (The others are Kenan Yildiz, Nicolo Savona, Samuel Mbangula, Jonas Rouhi and Lorenzo Anghele). Only Genoa (seven) have fielded more youngsters than Thiago Motta’s side this season. ............
