Juventus hopes to recover Thuram and Weah for the Empoli game

Weah-and-Thuram.jpg

Juventus lost Khéphren Thuram and Timothy Weah to injuries during their first game of the season against Como. Both players started the match, with the Bianconeri kicking off the Thiago Motta era with a victory.

Thuram, a new signing this summer, and Weah, now in his second season at the Allianz Stadium, impressed the club with their performances. Motta is eager to have them back as soon as possible. ............

Both Thuram and Weah have returned to training, though they are still working individually to regain full fitness and prevent further setbacks.

The club is hopeful that they will be available for the game against Empoli after the break, with their recovery progressing well under the current plan. ............

Three Juventus players could return from injury ahead of Empoli trip

Afbeelding

Juventus coach Thiago Motta could receive an important boost on the injury front, as three of his players could be fit again for the club’s upcoming encounter against Empoli. ............

Juventus will be playing twice per week, so squad depth will have a key role to play.

And luckily for Motta, three of his players are edging towards recovery.

The first is Timothy Weah who left the pitch shortly after scoring his first-ever Serie A goals against Como. ............

Khephran Thuram is also pushing for a return to action after skipping the previous two encounters. ............

Finally, Vasilije Adzic is also working to regain his fitness and earn a call-up for the trip to Empoli. ............

Sky Sports journalist expects Motta to rotate his players next week

New Juventus coach Thiago Motta's first press conference in full - Black & White & Read All Over

Juventus has some crucial matches lined up in the coming week as the Bianconeri return from the international break.

Thiago Motta’s side has made a strong start to the season and will look to maintain their unbeaten run when they face Empoli this weekend.

Following that, they kick off their Champions League campaign against PSV before facing Napoli in Serie A next weekend. ............

According to Sky Sport’s Giovanni Guardalà, the manager will likely have no choice but to rotate his squad in the coming week to handle the busy schedule. He said:

“Thiago Motta will have the chance to choose in view of Empoli, but then a very important week opens, because then on Tuesday there is PSV Eindhoven and on Saturday a not bad match for Juventus against Antonio Conte’s Napoli at the Allianz Stadium. So it will be a week in which Thiago Motta, as he always does, will have the chance to rotate his available men”. ............

Journalist says Juventus next three games will help us see their potential

Thiago Motta pleased with Juventus' first performance under his leadership | The Straits Times

Juventus faces a crucial run of fixtures against Empoli, PSV, and Napoli in their next three matches, which could define their season. ............

This period will be a true test of their squad’s strength, and football analyst Xavier Jacobelli believes that by the end of these three games, we will have a clearer picture of Juventus’ true potential this season. He said:

“Juventus will now face Empoli, PSV and then Napoli , three games that will allow us to take stock of the team’s potential. The Bianconeri fans are definitely full of ambition, legitimized by the market conducted by the club , which has brought top-level players to Turin, and also by the first outings of Thiago Motta who has given very comforting signals”. ............

Boost for Juventus as two players make a full recovery ahead of Empoli game

Weah e Thuram sono tornati in gruppo: recuperati per Empoli-Juventus | Goal.com Italia

Juventus has received a fitness boost ahead of their weekend match against Empoli. ............

In their season opener against Como, Timothy Weah and Khephren Thuram were unable to complete the game due to knocks. Juventus gave them time to recover, and the international break allowed them to regain full fitness.

Both players have now fully recovered and returned to full training with the squad.

Thiago Motta can consider including them in the starting XI for the Empoli fixture or keep them available for the following match. This comes as a timely boost for Juventus, who face a congested fixture list with the Champions League about to begin. ............

Juventus teenager set for his first team debut against Empoli

Vasilije-Adzic.jpg

Vasilije Adžić is one of the new signings Juventus made this summer, and he could make an appearance in their game against Empoli.

The Montenegrin teenager joined the Bianconeri as one of the most highly sought-after talents in his country. Some sections of the Montenegrin media have labelled him the best prospect to emerge from the nation, and much is expected of him. ............

Adžić could make his debut against Empoli. Motta has been impressed with his performances in training and might bring him on as a second-half substitute.

Though he is unlikely to start the match, he is expected to be included and could see some minutes late in the game. ............

Juventus play out a drab 0-0 draw with Empoli

Empoli-Juventus 0-0, pagelle e tabellino: Vasquez ferma Thiago Motta, altro pareggio senza reti per i bianconeri | Goal.com Italia

Juventus played out a goalless draw against Empoli this evening, failing to secure a win for the second consecutive game.

Empoli started by defending well, frustrating Juventus by allowing them to pass the ball around midfield without creating real chances. ............

Despite having some of their biggest names on the pitch, the lack of familiarity among the players left Dusan Vlahovic isolated up front at times. ............

Juventus nearly took the lead immediately after the break when Vlahovic connected with a well-placed pass, but Vásquez once again pulled off a brilliant save.

After failing to find a breakthrough, Motta made several substitutions, bringing on Khephren Thuram, Samuel Mbangula, Timothy Weah, and Nicolo Fagioli to push for a winner.

The new arrivals injected more urgency into Juventus’ attack, but they still lacked the cutting edge to break down Empoli and score. ............

Nico-Gonzalez-Juventus-Empoli.jpg

Empoli: Vasquez 7.5; Goglichidze 6.5, Ismajli 7, Viti 6.5; Gyasi 6, Grassi 6, Henderson 6, Pezzella 7; Esposito 6, Maleh 6; Colombo 5.

Best Empoli player: Vasquez 7.5 – As far as goalkeeping performances go, it doesn’t get much better than that, really. ............

Coach: Roberto D’Aversa 7 ............

Juventus: Perin 6; Kalulu 6, Bremer 6, Gatti 6.5, Cambiaso 6; Douglas Luiz 5, Locatelli 6; Nico Gonzalez 5, Koopmeiners 6, Yildiz 6; Vlahovic 6.

Best Juventus player: Gatti 6.5 – The temporary Juventus captain put in a solid centre-back’s performance, and was alert right until the end, providing a fine recovery in injury time to keep the scores level. Gatti has matured in the Juventus shirt, and looked composed, commanding and ready to lead his teammates.

Coach: Thiago Motta 5: – The Bianconeri coach fielded what, on paper, was not far off his strongest available XI, handing first league starts to high-profile summer signings Teun Koopmeiners and Douglas Luiz. It was only the first game back after the international break, and the first full game of the season for a few of their key players. That said, it didn’t quite click at the Castellani – Juventus were never really able to break down the strong Empoli defensive unit. They have gone from consecutive 3-0 wins to consecutive 0-0 draws.  However, the Old Lady are still unbeaten, and a tally of eight points from a possible 12 is not a bad start. A testing week awaits. ............

Juventus 0 - Empoli 0: Initial reaction and random observations

Empoli v Juventus - Serie A

Juventus dropped points for the second time in the last three years when visiting the Castellani. And as much as Empoli played well — and they really did to continue their very good start to the 2024-25 season — it’s hard not to focus on what Juventus wasn’t able to do for the second consecutive game. And that’s score a goal. with Saturday night’s trip to Tuscany resulting in a scoreless draw with Empoli. And that’s score a goal. Or really come close to doing so outside of one or two big chances that couldn’t be put away.

It looked a little something like this:

  • Total number of shots: 15
  • Total number of shots on goal: 3
  • Juventus’ final XG figure: 0.68

Simply put, that’s not good enough. It’s not good enough in terms of what Juventus created. It’s not good enough in terms of what Juventus did — or, in this case, didn’t — when it comes to the quality of scoring chances they had. And it’s not good enough when it comes to actually seeing something put on frame, with Empoli keeper Devis Vasquez only making one really good save. (Yes, it was a very good one.) ............

This team has gone through such an overhaul that they deserve at least a decent amount of time to get things on order and truly show what they can do under Motta.

But at the same time, they keep throwing out performances like this and there will be people smashing that same panic button or throwing out wild statements that I’m not considering right now. That’s just the nature of this whole thing where sometimes context of the situation is thrown out the window like you’re littering.

Panic button or no panic button, though, what Juventus do on the European stage in a couple of days suddenly became a lot more of interest than it might have been a couple of hours ago just because of how sub-par this performance was.

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Even with the scoreless draw, Juve moved top of the table again.
  • Personally, I liked it when Juventus got a clean sheet and won. Clean sheet but there’s only one point that comes along with it?
  • Unrelated: that first half was so drab. It was brutal. ............
  •
  • Pietro Pellegri did get a yellow in relation for the headbutt. Oh, let me correct myself: Pellegri got a yellow for arguing with Gatti about it. There you go, Serie A refereeing! Way to make up for you initial mistake!
  • Nico Gonzalez and Dusan Vlahovic both lost possession a team-high 13 times. One player had 46 touches, the other barely had 30. I think you can tell which one is which. Not great either way.
  • When it comes to Vlahovic, we know that he is far from the perfect striker. That’s just facts. He’s not, as much as we’d love it, in the same class as that bulldozer in Manchester with the long blonde hair. Vlahovic is going to frustrate the hell out of us with missed chances no matter if Juventus win 3-0 like they did the first two games of the season or have scoreless draws like they’ve done in back-to-back games now. ...........
  • Certain websites are already running headlines like “IS DOUGLAS LUIZ A FLOP?” and I just want to tell you to knock that crap off even though I know that will never happen.
  • Maybe wait until a guy has more than one start at his new club under his belt? Maybe even 10? Maybe a full season’s worth? I don’t know. Douglas Luiz is a talented player and I look forward to him finding his footing at Juventus and then bringing back some receipts. That’s all I’m saying, friends. ............

Federico Gatti with twice as many defensive actions than anybody else in bianconero and a last-second tackle to save a potential goal? That’s my captain! ............

Thiago-Motta-Juventus-hmm.jpg

Thiago Motta reacted to Juventus’ goalless draw against Empoli this evening, admitting that it was not the result they had hoped for.

The Bianconeri had already entered the international break following a goalless draw against AS Roma. ............

A lack of chemistry among Juventus’ top players was evident, and ultimately, they were unable to secure the win.

After the game, Motta acknowledged that the result was disappointing but emphasised that his team performed well overall. He said:

“We go home with a point, it’s clear that it’s not what we want, certainly the result wasn’t what we wanted before the match, but the performance of the boys was a good performance at this time and we have to continue to grow on this”. ............

“Juve creates little” Harsh but fair media criticism of Juventus after goaless draw

Empoli-Juventus le pagelle e il tabellino della partita

Juventus played out a dull goalless draw against Empoli this evening, in a performance that won’t linger long in the memory of their players.

The men in black and white struggled to connect during key moments of the play and found Empoli too well-organised to break down. ............

After the match, Calciomercato wrote:

“After the one at home with Roma, Juventus collects another in Empoli. Motta’s Bianconeri provide a disappointing performance at Castellani-Computer Gross and stumble into another misstep. The goals conceded remain zero, but this time, too Juve creates little and does not break through. Vlahovic and his teammates climb to the top of the table alone but could be overtaken tomorrow by the other leaders, including Inter.” ............

Italian press berates Di Bello for failing to send off Empoli striker following heabutt on Gatti

Immagine

Match official Marco Di Bello was criticized for his performance on Saturday evening, especially for his handling of the incident between Empoli striker Pietro Pellegri and Juventus defender Federico Gatti. ............

The Juventus captain pulled off several key interventions, including one that earned him a headbutt from Pellegri who momentarily lost his temper.

But while the Bianconeri faithful expected nothing less than a straight red card, Di Bello sufficed with a yellow card. ............

The Italian press insists that Di Bello should have sent off Pellegri immediately. However, the VAR wasn’t able to intervene, because the incident wasn’t extremely violent.

But as the source notes, had the match official given the Empoli man his marching orders, the VAR certainly wasn’t going to ask him to review the call.

Juventus fans will remember how Arkadiusz Milik was sent off the last time they played Empoli, arguably for a lesser infringement. ............

Motta to drop Koopmeiners for Juventus vs PSV – Replacement revealed

fskdviktplefvbllz2zt.jpg

Juventus coach Thiago Motta could decide to omit Teun Koopmeiners from the starting formation against PSV Eindhoven.

The Bianconeri will begin their Champions League campaign by hosting the Dutch champions at the Allianz Stadium in Tuesday’s early kickoff.

But following Saturday’s disappointing showing in Empoli, the Juventus coach could make some tweaks in the lineup, especially in the middle of the park. ............

Dusan Vlahvic remains the only option in attack, so he will maintain his role despite his poor weekend showing. However, there could be some changes in the supporting cast behind him. Koopmeiners won’t start against his compatriots in midweek.

The club’s most expensive summer signing is still working on finding his best physical condition and forging chemistry with his new teammates.

Therefore, the former Atalanta man will start on the bench, allowing Kenan Yildiz to play in a more central role behind Vlahovic. Koopmeiners will be replaced by the versatile Weston McKennie.

In addition to Koopmeiners, Juve’s second most expensive summer signing, Douglas Luiz, will also be benched after failing to impress at the Castellani.

The Brazilian will make way for fellow newcomer Khephren Thuram who will reportedly join Manuel Locatelli in the double pivot.

Hiddink previews Juventus-PSV clash: ‘Motta will play attacking football, not like Allegri, who used to put a London bus in front of the goal’

Thiago Motta Set To Be Announced Juventus Coach Amid Critical Summer

Ahead of the Juventus-PSV Champions League match, legendary Dutch coach Guus Hiddink shared his insights on the upcoming fixture. Hiddink, who led PSV to Champions League glory, offered his perspective on both teams’ current form and key players.

“Juventus is called to erase the bad international image following the one-year disqualification from European competitions. They must show their face. The team will be highly motivated, as will their fans. The ownership has profoundly modified the corporate structure and technical staff: from management to the coach and players. It’s a break with the past.” ............

“I’m not a fortune teller, but I hypothesize that my compatriots might at most snatch a draw, although in football anything is possible. PSV plays a bit ‘naively’ in Europe, attacking yes, but with too much innocence, ingenuity.” ............

“Motta appeals to me; after all, he’s Brazilian, one who plays attacking football like us Dutch. Not like Allegri, who used to put a London bus in front of the goal, a double-decker bus I mean. Football is a spectacle, offensive, goals. It must bring joy to the fans.”

Hiddink had high praise for Juventus’ new signing, Koopmeiners: “I am convinced that the transfer to a high-profile club like Juventus will allow him to make the final leap in quality and become a key element of the ‘Oranje’ National team. He is very strong physically, has technique and personality, sees the game. He can reach a very high level.” ............

Juventus vs PSV Eindhoven: Preview and Prediction

Juventus - PSV I Champions League (17/09/2024) - Negentiendertien.nl

Italian giants Juventus are making a comeback to the UEFA Champions League after a one-year absence from the competition. They will look to get started in the best possible way with all three points against PSV Eindhoven, who will be eyeing an upset on the first matchday. ............

Juventus

Thiago Motta’s team received a major boost as Khephren Thuram and Timothy Weah are both back in the mix. But, the Old Lady might be without the services of Francisco Conceicao, who is struggling with a calf injury.

The home team will line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, where Michele Di Gregorio will be in goal. Pierre Kalulu and Juan Cabal will be the full-backs, while Federico Gatti will feature in the heart of the defence alongside Gleison Bremer.

In the centre of the park, Manuel Locatelli will pair up with Nicolò Fagioli. Not only will they look to shield the backline, but the duo will also look to ensure they have a strong base to attack from. Andrea Cambiaso and Kenan Yıldız will provide width to their attacks, while Teun Koopmeiners will feature as the number 10. He will be the chief creator behind star striker Dušan Vlahovic.

Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Gatti, Bremer, Cabal; Locatelli, Fagioli; Cambiaso, Koopmeiners, Yildiz; Vlahovic

Juventus vs PSV Eindhoven Predicted XI

PSV Eindhoven

 ............

Probable Lineup (4-3-3): Benitez; Ledezma, Flamingo, Boscagli, Dams; Til, Schouten, Veerman; Bakayoko, De Jong, Tillman

Juventus vs PSV Eindhoven Predicted XI

Key Stats

  • PSV Eindhoven have won each of their five league outings this season.
  • Juventus have been unbeaten in the league but they have played out a draw in their last two outings.
  • Two-time champions Juventus missed out on the UEFA Champions League last season after an 11-year-long run in the competition.
  • PSV Eindhoven made it to the round of 16 last time out, and they will look to improve on it.
  • The Old Lady are all set to make a record 24th appearance in the competition, three more than rivals AC Milan.

Player to Watch

Dusan Vlahovic

The 24-year-old Serbian striker has had an impressive start to the new season as he has found the back of the net on two occasions in his first four outings. Vlahovic will look to carry on in a similar fashion when Juventus take on PSV in their first UEFA Champions League outing of the season.

Prediction

Juventus 2-0 PSV Eindhoven

The Dutch club have had a phenomenal start to the new season as they have won each of their first five league games. But they might still struggle against the Italian giants. While Juventus have played out a draw in their last two league outings, they will still be confident about securing a positive result against PSV. The Hard Tackle predicts an easy 2-0 win for the home team.

Champions League Preview: Juventus vs PSV – Team News, Line-ups & Prediction

Juventus_PSV_UCL_Preview-1.jpg

Almost two years removed from their last appearance in the competition, Juventus will be making their much-anticipated return to the Champions League on Tuesday when they host PSV Eindhoven at the Allianz Stadium in the curtain raiser of the competition in its new format.

This will also be a special occasion for Thiago Motta who will be making his bow in Europe’s elite club competition. The Bianconeri were guided to the tournament by their former coach Massimilano Allegri, but the Italo-Brazilian certainly earned his dues by leading Bologna towards a historic qualification before parting ways with the Emilians at the end of last season. ............

Match Preview

Juventus

The Bianconeri started their campaign on a bright note, shrugging aside Como and Verona by three unanswered goals. However, they lost some of their steam by settling for two goalless draws against Roma and Empoli in their last two outings.

These less-than-inspiring displays suggest that the players still have a long way to go to master the Motta tactics, while the manager is still experimenting with his squad. He’s been seemingly torn between deploying big-money signings like Teun Koopmeiners and Douglas Luiz, and giving the opportunities for those he deems in better physical condition.

But while the Serie A schedule can be forgiving, the same cannot be said about the Champions League, as each of the eight group-stage fixtures will make a large difference in the table. Hence, the Old Lady cannot afford to start on the wrong foot, especially with more complicated fixtures around the corner.

PSV

The reigning Dutch champions have been a real rampage since the start of the season. They have won each of their first five fixtures in the Eredivisie with a terrifying aggregate score of 20-3. ............

Team News

Motta almost has a full squad to choose from following the return of Timothy Weah and Khephren Thuram, but Francisco Conceicao will remain on the sidelines for a few more weeks, while Arkadiusz Milik’s absence leaves Dusan Vlahovic without a natural understudy.

On the other hand, the Dutch champions will have to do without former Napoli winger Hirving Lozano who’s dealing with a muscular problem, as well as former Roma right-back Rick Karsdorp while Armando Obispo and Sergino Dest remain doubtful.

Juventus vs PSV Potential Line-ups

Juventus (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Gatti, Bremer, Cambiaso; Locatelli, Koopmeiners; Gonzalez, Yildiz, McKennie; Vlahovic

PSV (4-3-3): Benitez; Ledezma, Flamingo, Boscagli, Dams; Til, Schouten, Veerman; Bakayoko, De Jong, Tillman

Juventus vs PSV Prediction

At this point, it feels as if Motta is more concerned about keeping his unbeaten streak intact rather than going full throttle to earn a positive result. Therefore, Juventus might end up sharing the spoils once more.

Prediction: Draw

Thiago Motta & Nine Juventus players to make Champions League debuts

tpmackzkq8kov5tpgtlj.jpg

Today is a special day for football fans around the globe, as the Champions League in its new format is finally upon us. In the curtain raiser, Juventus will host PSV Eindhoven at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.

This encounter will mark the Old Lady’s much-anticipated return to Europe’s elite club competition following a forced year-long hiatus.

Nevertheless, the Bianconeri are making their way back with a rather inexperienced squad, led by a managerial staff with no European background. ............

Nine players are still waiting to make their debut in the prestigious tournament.

The list includes new signings Michele Di Gregorio, Juan Cabal Douglas Luiz and Vasilije Adzic. Moreover, Andrea Cambiaso is also looking forward to making his Champions League bow.

Naturally, newly promoted youngsters Nicolo Savana, Jonas Rouhi and Samuel Mbangula never had the chance to feature in the tournament.

The same goes for Kenan Yildiz who has been part of the senior squad since last season, but the club had been banished from all European competitions in the aftermath of the Plusvalenza and Prisma investigations.

For his part, Thiago Motta won the competition as an Inter player back in 2010, but has yet to make his debut in the dugout. ............

Late twist for PSV as main goalkeeper leaves Turin ahead of Juventus clash

walter-benitez-nizza-1558957121-22460.jpg

PSV Eindhoven will have to do without their goalkeeper Walter Benitez in tonight’s Champions League opener against Juventus.

The 31-year-old arrived in Turin yesterday alongside the rest of the Dutch host. However, he had to leave Italy for personal reasons.

According to a statement published by the official PSV website on Tuesday, Benitez returned home upon his son’s birth.

Walter Benitez left the team’s hotel in Turin this morning. ............

While this is certainly a jubilant occasion for the Argentine, his coach Bosz has been left without his main custodian for tonight’s big showdown.

The Dutch manager will have to resort to his backup goalkeeper Drommel. The latter is a 27-year-old goalkeeper who has been playing his trade at the club since making 2021.

It remains to be seen if this unexpected twist will have a negative effect on the Dutch champions, and whether Dusan Vlahovic and company will gain a significant advantage.

La Juve è forte. Dove sono le vedove di Allegri e quelli secondo cui "le milanesi sono più forti?. Speriamo che il Milan vinca il derby così anche Inzaghi gnègnè avrà il fatto suo.

Di Gregorio 6 –  ............

Kalulu 6.5 – A strong start with a nice through ball down the right flank. Great cross-field pass a few minutes later. Solid defensively.

Gatti 6.5 –  ............

Bremer 6.5 –  ............ (57′ Danilo 6)

Cambiaso 6.5 – A pure inverted fullback. His movements towards the middle of the park helped Juventus build-up, especially in the opening stages.

Locatelli 6.5 –  ............ (57′ Thuram 6)

McKennie 7 – He completed the Juventus midfield starting for the first time this season and scored after just 27 minutes. Helped the team defensively in the second half. (75′ Douglas Luiz 6)

Nico Gonzalez 8.5 – The Argentinean inspired McKennie’s goal and found the net for the first time in a Bianconeri shirt in the second half. Try to catch him if you can. (69′ Weah 6)

Koopmeiners 6.5 – Swapped positions with Yildiz at times. Started as an attacking midfielder. Sometimes, he moved on the left wing, and other times, he dropped into the middle of the park to start the attack.

Yildiz 8.5 – The Turkish talent became the youngest Juventus goal scorer in the Champions League, beating his idol Alessandro Del Piero and scoring a goal that will make the ex-No.10 proud. Received a deserved standing ovation when he was subbed off. (69′ Fagioli 6)

Vlahovic 6.5 –  ............

Coach: Motta 7 – An excellent performance. Juventus were always in control, as their coach wanted, even if they conceded their first goal this season in the final second.
