Socrates 8614 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 135110 messaggi Inviato March 30 Juventus 1 - Genoa 0: Initial reaction and random observations Considering Igor Tudor had as many training sessions with his new Juventus squad as I have fingers on my right hand enter Saturday evening’s matchup against Genoa, it was hardly any sort of certainty what the Bianconeri would produce under their new manager. ............ A moment of Kenan Yildiz magic midway through the first half proved to be the difference on the scoreboard and Juventus captured a 1-0 win over Genoa at the Allianz Stadium in Tudor’s managerial debut. A team that looked completely listless in losses to Atalanta and Fiorentina by a combined 7-0 scoreline heading into the international break looked so much more organized despite having less than a week’s worth of training sessions with their new manager. And, most importantly, they showed the fight to keep a Genoa side that had collected nearly as many points since as Juventus since their late-November managerial change to next to nothing — and it resulted in that same Bianconeri squad that had so many holes defensively just a few weeks ago recording their first shutout since March 3. ............ With Bologna winning Saturday, Juventus just needed to keep pace. But with so much change happening at Juventus over the course of the last week, how they would come out in Tudor’s first game was the biggest question. The formation looked much like we thought it would, with Tudor rolling out his customary 3-4-2-1 and players that were both played out of position by Motta or simply out of favor with the now-former Juve manager better utilized by the former Bianconeri defender. Nico Gonzalez, was no longer on the left wing. Dusan Vlahovic was actually in the starting lineup. Kenan Yildiz was back on the left and playing behind Vlahovic. It just made more sense rather than thinking to yourself “Why is Motta doing this ... again?” ............ But you just had the feeling as Saturday’s proceedings played out that this Juventus team was just in a better place compared to the last time they played at the Allianz. For all of the things that we’re hoping Tudor can try and clean up, they limited Genoa to just 0.27 xG and Michele Di Gregorio wasn’t even forced into much of anything difficult in terms of saves he had to make. Five of Genoa’s nine shots on the day were from outside of the box, and when things were on target it’s not like they really challenged Di Gregorio — which, when you consider this is the first time Juve’s played a back three this season, is a pretty positive development regardless of how much this visitors have sometimes struggled to score goals this season. ............ RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS The lines of the coaching box on the Juventus sidelines mean absolutely nothing to Igor Tudor. It felt like almost every time he showed up at the bottom of a camera shot — especially as the second half went on — Tudor was routinely nowhere close to the edge of the box, even sometimes on the field. It made me laugh. ............ Tactically, there were some cool things to see from Tudor against Genoa. Like we figured, in attack it was 3-4-2-1 and in defense it was basically 5-3-2. The twist on it was sometimes how high Teun Koopmeiners was playing next to Vlahovic. Sure, Koopmeiners didn’t have a great game, but you can clearly see that Tudor is trying things in attempt to get the Dutchman going again. We’ll see how that goes over the next few weeks. Seeing Gonzalez come alive as a wingback on the right wing was not exactly something I had on my bingo card entering this one. ............ The Juve player with the third-most amount of touches? Mr. Kenan Yildiz with 70. I can definitely support that as we go forward here under Tudor. More of that, please. ............ Vlahovic attempted 10 passes against Genoa. He completed five of them. That ain’t great. Francisco Conceição also attempted 10 passes. He completed seven of them. Conceição came on with 25 minutes to go. I have no idea how Khephren Thuram had enough energy left in his body to make that kind of run in the 92nd minute and not absolutely pass out afterward. Maybe he was inspired by his dad’s outfit. Who knows really. ............ In closing, I just wanna let Igor know that it’s nice to see him back in Turin and I hope this goes well. No matter how you win, I just hope you keep winning. That would be nice. Tudor started on the right note, guiding the club towards a 1-0 win over Genoa in front of the crowds at the Allianz Stadium. ............ Tacchinardi wasn’t afraid to declare Juve’s ‘return’. “Juve is back! It was a very difficult, very complicated match. There was tension, the managerial change, a new formation, and Bologna who had won their match,” noted the retired midfielder. ............ “Genoa had put all the teams in difficulty. I liked what I saw from Juventus. It was a hard-working Juve, who got their hands dirty, a Juve that ran and fought, who helped each other every time there was a mistake. “Applause, thumbs up, all together fighting and battling together, until the last second.” ............ “I finally saw the vertical, fast and ferocious plays, a monstrous Yildiz, a crazy Thuram, I liked Locatelli a lot. Then my idol is Renato Veiga because he is spectacular. “But Igor, in a short time, has made an important impact. We will certainly have to grow, improve our physical condition because they went man-to-man to press from all parts of the pitch, and it is not easy if you are not in great physical condition. Socrates 8614 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 135110 messaggi Inviato April 1 (modificato) Two important Juventus stars still did not train with the team today Juventus are in urgent need of their injured players returning to full fitness as they prepare for a crucial Serie A clash against AS Roma. Igor Tudor, who secured a victory in his first match as Juventus manager against Genoa, will be eager to maintain that momentum. However, facing Roma presents a far tougher challenge, and he will want his strongest squad available. Two key Juventus players, Andrea Cambiaso and Douglas Luiz, have been sidelined with injuries for several weeks. ............ Juventus have remained optimistic about their recovery, but their latest training sessions suggest a different reality. Cambiaso and Luiz were once again training alone in the most recent session, indicating they are still not ready to return to full team training. This development is a significant blow for Juventus, given how vital both players are to the team’s structure and tactical setup. With less than a week remaining before they face Roma, the club now face a race against time to determine whether either player can recover in time. ............ . Juventus will not want to rush them back prematurely, as doing so could risk aggravating their injuries. The win will undoubtedly provide him with confidence and allow him some breathing room to work on improving the squad over the coming weeks. ............ As such, Juventus’ victory, while welcome, is not necessarily a sign that all their issues have been resolved. The real test will come in the upcoming fixtures, particularly against tougher opposition, where Tudor’s tactical approach and squad management will be put under greater scrutiny. Juventus’ immediate focus will be on maintaining consistency and collecting as many points as possible in the coming weeks. The team must show clear signs of progress under Tudor, particularly in areas where they have struggled this season. ............ Assessing the team’s performance in Tudor’s debut match, Gianfranco Teotino provided his thoughts on the changes observed: “Some differences compared to the last few outings were seen, even if there were no substantial improvements. “In general, Juve suffered little, perhaps also thanks to the three-man defence, on the other hand, we saw a more difficult ball management and consequently less control of the game.” ............ The coming weeks will be crucial for Juventus as they look to refine their playing style and gain momentum under their new manager. Tudor has made a solid start, but tougher challenges lie ahead, and Juventus must continue working to become a more cohesive and competitive unit. . Socrates 8614 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 135110 messaggi Inviato April 2 (modificato) The Roma game will reveal more about Tudor than the Genoa match Igor Tudor’s first game as Juventus manager was against Genoa, and his team secured a satisfying victory, marking an easy introduction to the role. However, even Tudor would admit that he is unlikely to encounter a more straightforward game than that, with tougher challenges almost certainly lying ahead. ............ Tudor faces a difficult task in his pursuit of overtaking Bologna and leading the team back into the top four this season. Aware of the challenges, he will aim for consecutive wins, starting with a crucial match against Roma, who are just three points behind the Bianconeri. ............ Bologna, Juventus, AS Roma, Lazio, and Fiorentina are all in contention for fourth place, which adds extra significance to the clash between Juventus and Roma. While Genoa sits mid-table, neither in danger of relegation nor competing for European spots, Roma is determined to secure a return to the Champions League next season. ............ Roma will test Juventus in ways that Genoa did not, and Tudor will likely be aware of this. He will need to devise a different game plan to tackle a stronger opponent, but Juventus must also be prepared to adapt if Roma changes their approach. Claudio Ranieri is one of the most accomplished tacticians in Italian football, and this game is expected to be highly tactical. Tudor will face a challenge against an experienced manager if his strategy falters, but he has players capable of causing Roma all kinds of problems. . Socrates 8614 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 135110 messaggi Inviato April 2 “Big flaw” Massimo Pavan sends a warning to Juventus about AS Roma Juventus’ next challenge will be against AS Roma, with Igor Tudor aiming to secure his second consecutive victory since taking charge. Following a narrow 1-0 win over Genoa in his debut match, Tudor and his squad are well aware that Roma pose a significantly tougher challenge. This fixture is crucial for both teams as they continue their late push to secure a top-four finish in Serie A. The Bianconeri are determined to claim all three points, but Roma, under the experienced leadership of Claudio Ranieri, are equally motivated to strengthen their position in the league. Given the high stakes, this match is expected to be a fiercely contested encounter. ............ Football analyst Massimo Pavan has highlighted this tactical battle, cautioning Juventus against losing possession in dangerous areas. He stated: “You must not lose the ball when coming out, this has been the big flaw of the last matches.” Pavan’s warning reflects the concerns surrounding Juventus’ recent performances, where moments of carelessness in possession have led to vulnerabilities. Against a team like Roma, which thrives on quick transitions and counter-attacks, any lapse in concentration could prove costly. Juventus will need to maintain discipline, particularly in midfield, to avoid gifting Roma opportunities to capitalise on turnovers. The upcoming clash represents a significant test for Juventus and their players must be at their best to secure a positive result. ............ . Socrates 8614 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 135110 messaggi Inviato Sabato alle 20:10 Preview: Roma vs. Juventus - prediction, team news, lineups Resurgent Roma will host an ailing Juventus side in Serie A's Sunday night showdown, with the teams separated by just three points in the standings. Once title contenders, Juve now find themselves outside Italy's top four looking in, and their Roman rivals can catch them with an eighth straight league win. Match preview ............ Yet, following a goalless draw in September's reverse fixture, Juventus have lost only one of their last nine league meetings with Roma. The Bianconeri are also a relatively unknown quantity under new management, after Thiago Motta was recently removed following heavy back-to-back losses and Igor Tudor was handed the reins until the campaign's conclusion. Tudor - who won two Scudetti with the club as a player - has previously managed Hellas Verona and Lazio in Italy's top flight, after working as an assistant to Andrea Pirlo in Turin. He inherited a squad that had posted the club's fewest wins after 29 league games since 2011, but last week's 1-0 win over Genoa at least saw the former Croatia defender make a successful start. Only a fine Kenan Yildiz finish separated the sides at full time, but that was enough to keep Juve within one point of fourth-placed Bologna with eight games to go. After embarrassing exits from the Champions League and Coppa Italia - to PSV Eindhoven and Empoli respectively - the fallen giants simply must salvage something from another sub-par season by securing their return to Europe's top competition. If not, they face financial crisis. ............ Team News ............ Between the posts, Mile Svilar is the Giallorossi's undisputed number one, drawing interest from several Premier League clubs: this calendar year, he has the second-best save percentage throughout Europe's top five leagues (85%). Furthermore, Svilar and Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio (both 12, along with Inter Milan's Yann Sommer) have kept the joint-most clean sheets in Serie A this season. Federico Gatti has now joined Juve's absence list, so Igor Tudor has a selection headache to resolve in defence, where he prefers a three-man rearguard. Up front, Dusan Vlahovic - out of favour at the tail-end of Thiago Motta's tenure - should spearhead a 3-4-2-1 formation, linking up with Kenan Yildiz. Last week, the latter equalled Moise Kean with the most Serie A goals scored for Juventus while still a teenager (seven) throughout the 21st century. Roma possible starting lineup: Svilar; Mancini, Hummels, Ndicka; Celik, Kone, Paredes, Angelino; Soule, Pellegrini; Dovbyk Juventus possible starting lineup: Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Veiga, Kelly; Gonzalez, Locatelli, Thuram, McKennie; Koopmeiners, Yildiz; Vlahovic We say: Roma 1-0 Juventus Juventus (17) and Roma (18) have conceded the fewest goals from open play in Serie A so far, and they played out a 0-0 draw in this season's reverse fixture. So, one moment of magic - or madness - could decide a contest between two well-matched teams. Given their new-found resilience, the Giallorossi can edge to an eighth league win on the spin, taking them level on points with their once-distant rivals. . Socrates 8614 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 135110 messaggi Inviato Sabato alle 20:18 Serie A Preview: Roma vs Juventus – Team News, Line-ups & Prediction What seemed impossible before Claudio Ranieri’s appointment in November has become a distinct possibility for Roma. The 71-year-old has turned a downtrodden side into a formidable force, leading the Giallorossi to sixth in the Serie A table and within touching distance of fourth-placed Bologna. Four points separate Roma from a coveted Champions League qualification with eight matches left. ............ An identical scoreline saw Juventus get the better of Genoa on home soil last Sunday, courtesy of Kenan Yildiz’s goal midway through the first half. After a winning start to his interim tenure in Turin, caretaker boss Igor Tudor will aim to impress on his touchline debut outside the Allianz Stadium and solidify Juventus’ top-four pursuit. Nothing less will do as Juventus trail Bologna by a point after humiliating back-to-back losses to Atalanta and Fiorentina toward the end of Thiago Motta’s regime. However, beating Roma at the Olimpico could be a tall order even for the record-time Italian champions. Match Preview Roma Despite his age, Ranieri, who came out of retirement to rekindle Roma’s faltering campaign, continues to write history. ............ Juventus Like their hosts, Juventus have immensely struggled against the division’s best teams this term. Only three of the visitors’ 14 Serie A victories this season have come against sides starting this matchday in the top nine (D3, L7), with three of their last four matches against such opposition yielding a dismal return of three defeats (W1). However, Juventus have fared decently in hostile environments this term, avoiding defeat on 12 of their 14 Serie A road trips (W6, D6). Yet, both those losses came across their last four travels against fellow European qualification hopefuls. Furthermore, a 3-0 loss in Florence halted Juve’s outstanding run of breaking the deadlock in seven consecutive away league games. Poised to return to winning ways on the road, Juventus will turn to their decent-looking run of just one defeat from their last five Serie A visits to Roma’s home ground for inspiration (W2, D2). Worryingly, they’re without a clean sheet at this venue since a scoreless draw in May 2018, highlighting the magnitude of the task awaiting them on Sunday. Team News ............ Meanwhile, Federico Gatti has joined long-term absentees Arkadiusz Milik, Juan Cabal, and Gleison Bremer in the treatment room. Andrea Cambiaso and Douglas Luiz are not fully fit, meaning they’ll either stay on the sidelines or make the bench. Roma vs Juventus Potential Starting Line-ups Roma (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Mancini, Hummels, Ndicka; Gourna-Douath, Kone, Cristante, Angelino; Matias Soule, Pellegrini; Dovbyk. Juventus (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Veiga, Kelly; Gonzalez, Locatelli, Thuram, McKennie; Koopmeiners, Yildiz; Vlahovic. Roma vs Juventus Prediction A draw wouldn’t benefit either side, but it’d still do more good than damage for Juventus. Roma must take all three points to stay in contention for a top-four finish, and the team’s renaissance under Ranieri suggests they can do just that. Prediction: Roma to Win . Socrates 8614 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 135110 messaggi Inviato Sabato alle 21:19 AS Roma vs Juventus: Preview and Prediction The Serie A battle for a top-four place gets intense with every passing week, as AS Roma may have a big say in who finishes in those coveted UEFA Champions League positions, including in the game against Juventus. Claudio Ranieri has enjoyed a stellar period of late with the club, as the win over Lecce secured the Giallorossi’s seventh successive win on the bounce. ............ Meanwhile, Juventus began life under new manager and former Scudetto winner Igor Tudor in a successful manner. The Bianconeri saw off Genoa as a solitary Kenan Yildiz striker secured the points and a winning start to life after Thiago Motta. There is tremendous pressure on Tudor to deliver Champions League football next season, and currently, Juventus are only a point behind fourth-placed Bologna. They will run the risk of further opening the race for a top-four race should they lose or drop points against Roma, especially if other rivals like Lazio and even Bologna win. Team News & Tactics AS Roma ............ Probable Lineup (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Celik, Mancini, Ndicka; El Shaarawy, Kone, Paredes, Angelino; Pellegrini, Soule; Dovbyk Juventus Juventus have more long-term absentees such as Gleison Bremer, Juan Cabal, and Arkadiusz Milik are on their injury list, while Federico Gatti will miss around a month of action. Tudor is not expected to make too many tweaks, as the only one ahead of the AS Roma game will probably see Francisco Conceicao come in for Teun Koopmeiners. Tudor will also bring in Piere Kalulu to replace Gatti in that back three, with Renato Veiga and Llyod Kelly set to retain their spots. Weston McKennie and Nico Gonzalez will play the wing-back roles, with Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao operating in advanced roles in the final third. Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram appear to be the starting midfielders under Tudor, with the duo set to continue their partnership. Up front, Dusan Vlahovic might be the preferred choice to lead the line under the new manager, and the out-of-form Randal Kolo Muani may have to bide his time before sneaking up an opportunity. Probable Lineup (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Veiga, Kelly; Gonzalez, Locatelli, Thuram, McKennie; Yildiz, Conceicao; Vlahovic Key Stats AS Roma are unbeaten in their last 14 Serie A games. AS Roma have won their last seven Serie A games. AS Roma have kept a clean sheet in six of their last seven matches in Serie A. Juventus have lost only one of their last nine games against Roma. Juventus have won only one of their last five games against Roma. Player to Watch Artem Dovbyk ............ Prediction AS Roma 1-0 Juventus Juventus are still figuring out a new system and how the players operate in the way that Igor Tudor wants, which may work against them in this late run-in. However, they have the quality to face up to a big team like AS Roma, as they could put in a resilient performance on Sunday. Roma, on the other hand, are on the upward curve, following seven wins on the bounce as well as an unbeaten run in Serie A stretching to 14 games. Ranieri’s side have also been the better team in this fixture especially on home soil, as their momentum will likely secure an eighth straight win in the league. . Juventus are approaching a crucial stage of their season, with five challenging fixtures ahead that could determine whether they secure a top-four finish. Under the guidance of new manager Igor Tudor, every match has taken on increased significance, beginning with a tough away trip. AS Roma vs Juventus This upcoming fixture is set to be one of the most important matches of the season. Tudor will be keen to prove his capabilities, and this game offers the platform to do just that. ............ Juventus vs LecceJuventus were left frustrated in the reverse fixture, as Lecce secured a late goal to snatch a draw. That result saw Juventus drop valuable points, and they will be determined to put things right. ............ Parma vs JuventusThe previous meeting between these two teams ended 2-2, in a game where Juventus arguably should have done better. As the season nears its conclusion, there is now added pressure to avoid similar slip-ups. ............ Juventus vs MonzaMonza are not enjoying the best of seasons, and this fixture represents a home advantage that Juventus must make count. ............ Bologna vs JuventusThis match presents one of the toughest challenges remaining for Juventus. Bologna are also in the hunt for a top-four finish, making this a direct battle between rivals. It is considered the second most difficult match in the next set of fixtures, and the nature of Bologna’s challenge means there is a fair chance Juventus could struggle in this one. ............ . Socrates 8614 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 135110 messaggi Inviato Domenica alle 08:17 Roma vs. Juventus match preview There’s a big six-pointer going down at the Stadio Olimpico this weekend, and Juventus are very much in need of points under their new manager. For the second consecutive weekend coming out of the first international break of 2025, Juventus are set to face a team who have benefited greatly from a managerial change that took place in the month of November. Last Saturday, it was a Genoa side that brought in a former Juve midfielder, Patrick Vieira, and turned a potential relegation battle into a comfortable mid-table standing. Now, it’s a former Juve manager who has done wonders to turn around his club’s season that was in absolute shambles before he took control. ............ Claudio Ranieri has worked his magic at Roma, the club that he came out of retirement to try and save from potentially being the biggest name in quite some time to even be in a discussion about a relegation fight based on how the first three months of the 2024-25 season. Roma were four points above the relegation zone when the 73-year-old Ranieri took over for Ivan Juric, and since then have gone. ............ That is who Juventus are up against this Sunday night at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, as Igor Tudor faces quite a measuring stick to see just where he’s gotten this squad in his second week in charge after taking over for Thiago Motta. With eight games to go, this is one of Juventus’ biggest games remaining on the schedule — and that is even before you look at the form guide and see just how well Ranieri has been able to get Roma going after a brutal start to the season that resulted in not one but two different managers losing their jobs within the span of a couple of months. ............ Going to the Olimpico is never easy. That’s always the truth no matter what kind of form Roma is in or who their manager at the time is named. It’s a tough place to play basically every single time. There’s also this, though: With Bologna playing second-place Napoli on Monday night in arguably the biggest fixture of Matchday 31, Tudor’s Juve has the chance to both jump into fourth place as well as put the heat on the team that currently occupies the final Champions League spot 24 hours before they take the field at the Renato Dall’Ara. As tough as facing the red-hot Roma will be, it’s also a chance to take advantage of the absolutely brutal schedule that Bologna have to close out the season. After facing Napoli on Monday night, Bologna have the following teams on the schedule over the following four weeks: Atalanta, Inter, Udinese and finally Juventus in a massive May 4 showdown. But Sunday night will be the first test of Tudor’s short time as manager. That’s obvious. You have one team that has very much embraced and rode the wave of a new manager and worked their way up the standings because of it. You’ve got the other team who is now in their second game under a new manager and, in his own words, “rebuilding” things together coming out of a turbulent international break. ............ TEAM NEWS The big injury news coming out of last weekend’s win over Genoa was that Federico Gatti will miss a month due to a compound fracture in his heel. It probably hurts about as much as you think it does. But there is some good injury news to report heading into the trip to the Italian capital: Both Andrea Cambiaso and Douglas Luiz returned to training during the week and will be available to face Roma. They both, however, will only be options off the bench, according to Tudor at his pre-match press conference. Backup goalkeeper Mattia Perin will also miss Sunday’s game due to a muscle injury he picked up in training, although he has still reportedly traveled with the team to Rome. ............ JUVENTUS PLAYER TO WATCH There were a handful of good things to come out of Tudor’s debut as Juve manager. but one of the most noticeable was the simple fact of players being used in positions in which they were meant. That was somewhat true when it comes to Nico Gonzalez. He was back on the right wing like he is meant to be ... but as a wingback? Yep, as a wingback — and it was pretty OK. ............ Socrates 8614 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 135110 messaggi Inviato Domenica alle 18:35 Tudor: ‘Ranieri achieved a miracle, made history in football’ Juventus coach Igor Tudor explains his choices for the trip to Roma and hails the achievements of Claudio Ranieri. ‘He performed a miracle and made history in the football world.’ ............ “Roma are in a good period of form with a run of victories, they have strong players, are well-drilled, playing on home turf. However, we worked well this week and have to prove ourselves here this evening,” Tudor said. ............ There are only three points between Roma in seventh place and Juventus in fifth going into this clash, because the race for European places is extraordinarily tight. It had not been the case a few months ago, but Ranieri has taken his team to an incredible run of seven consecutive Serie A victories. “Ranieri performed a miracle in England with Leicester, but that is not all he achieved in his career. I know how well everyone speaks of him, he made history in the football world.” ............ “I’ve been here for basically a week now, I chose these players today, but everyone is important and often those who come off the bench are decisive. We want to do things right in both phases of the game,” noted Tudor. ............ “You set a hierarchy one game at a time, make choices based on form and characteristics, what you see in training and during the match. I always said I liked Vlahovic, but Randal too, these are two great strikers.” . He has the trust of his players, and they started the game with confidence, pushing the action towards the AS Roma goal. After Nicolas Gonzalez and Stephan El Shaarawy both missed opportunities, Manuel Locatelli opened the scoring for the Bianconeri. It was an excellent strike, sending a message to his critics that he was ready to help Tudor succeed. ............ The game played out as tactically anticipated, with Claudio Ranieri determined not to allow Juventus an easy win over his team. He introduced Eldor Shomurodov at halftime, and the striker equalised less than five minutes after the restart. ............ Juve had to find another goal to prove that their opener was not a fluke and that they had what it took to win an important match. ............ In the end, both teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. . Socrates 8614 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 135110 messaggi Inviato ieri alle 16:23 Tudor explains new Juventus approach, but makes honest admission: “Looks more enjoyable than it really is” Juventus coach Igor Tudor reveals the biggest tactical change the team underwent upon his appointment. ............ Tudor has thus far delivered in this regard, with the players looking more determined to win duels and fight for every ball. Nevertheless, the 46-year-old’s introduction didn’t only bear a new mentality, but several key tactical changes that were noticeable on his debut against Genoa and once again on Sunday in the 1-1 draw against Roma. “We wanted to push those defenders forward, but also not allow the counter-attack, so that’s all about the preventative marking, especially against a side like Roma,” said Tudor in his post-match interview. “It was not to be taken for granted that we’d have this attitude; we were fired up and had the right mentality from the start.” ............ “We need to concede fewer goals from corners, though it was not helpful to be missing players like Bremer, Gatti and Cabal. “When I arrived, I just relied on the method of defending from set plays that they already had in place, but we certainly need to work on this and improve. ............ “I’ve only been here for 10 days, so it is wonderful, but we have to focus on our work and enjoy it as much as we can too. “It can be tough in this job, because you are all about the details and the focus, you don’t have much time to enjoy it. Perhaps from the outside, it looks more enjoyable than it really is.” . Socrates 8614 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 135110 messaggi Inviato 23 ore fa Roma 1 - Juventus 1 - : Initial reaction and random observations For the second time in as many weekends with Igor Tudor becoming Juventus caretaker manager, the Bianconeri walked into halftime with a 1-0 lead in their back pocket. Eight days earlier, it proved to be a lead that Juve held, albeit against a Genoa side that has struggled to score even with their improved form. But Sunday night saw Juventus trying to hold that one-goal lead against one of the hottest teams in Serie A and a much more difficult opponent on the whole. ............ After a very strong first-half showing at the Stadio Olimpico highlighted by Manuel Locatelli’s stunning first goal of the season, Juventus couldn’t repeat that same kind of performance coming out of halftime. Combine that with Roma manager Claudio Ranieri making a bold change to begin the second half, and the man he brought on to enable his change from a 3-4-2-1 to more of a 4-4-2, Uzbek striker Eldor Shomurodov, to make an immediate impact and snatch Juve’s lead right away from them. It turned out to be a total tale of two halves for Tudor’s squad, as they couldn’t muster much of anything going forward in the second half and dropped points in a 1-1 against Roma in the Italian capital. A win could have enabled Juventus to pull even with third-place Atalanta on points after the boys from Bergamo lost to Lazio — one of the many teams competing with the Bianconeri for a Champions League spot — before things kicked off at the Olimpico. ............ Is a draw against a team that has not lost in Serie A since mid-December and won seven straight league fixtures coming into Sunday night a bad thing? No, not really. But having the lead and then seeing it go up in smoke during a moment of poor defending — you know, something we saw plenty under Thiago Motta — just adds a little more salt in the wound of a game in which Juve were 1,000% the better side in the opening half. Ranieri and Roma did what they needed to do to get back in the game. And you know what? Juve had no real answer to it. That’s what’s probably the most disappointing thing to come out of this one. Juventus were playing quite well against Roma, and then it just disappeared. ............ RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS Every single picture we have available to us of Roma’s goal shows absolutely nobody in a Juventus shirt outside of Michele Di Gregorio around Shomurodov for his goal. Just a total brain fart at the back on a set piece after Di Gregorio made a very good initial save. ............ For as good as Pierre Kalulu was pretty much all night against Roma, not keeping track of Shomurodov on the goal turned out to be one of the few moments of bad defensive play from Juventus. Kalulu did just about everything right ... expect staying with his man on the goal. It’s a shame that the goal came in that way because Kalulu really was a standout pretty much all night. His sliding block in the first half that could very well have been a goal? Fantastic! His run on what led to Locatelli’s goal? Also fantastic! How he defended for pretty much the entire game? Pretty damn good. But the marking of Shomurodov was not great — and ultimately that was one of the things that cost Juve a couple of points. Locatelli’s goal was about as well as he could have connected on that. It’s funny because Khephren Thuram had a chance from nearly the same kind of spot earlier in the first half and hit a dribbler right at Svilar. Wondering if Locatelli reminds KT of that over the next day or two. Since Khephren seems like such a chill dude, I say go for it. Who said Juventus wouldn’t possess the ball as much under Tudor as compared to Thiago Motta? Juve had nearly 90% possession through the first five minutes. That figure went all the way down to 85% through the first 10 minutes. That Mile Svilar save on the Nico Gonzalez header right outside the six-yard box ... that was a pretty damn good one. Hoping for some sort of New Manager Bounce with Vlahovic being happy that Motta was fired has not worked out as well as we might have thought could happen. He had a relatively tough game against Genoa last weekend, and this was even more of a struggle Sunday night. Tudor will likely keep rolling it out there, so it’s up to Vlahovic to try and make something out of his final seven games of the season (and probably as a Juve player). ............ Artem Dovbyk vs. Renato Veiga was a clash of two very large young men and they very much looked like it as the final minutes approached. Them boys are gonna be tired come the morning. ............ Randal Kolo Muani touched the ball nine times in his 22 minutes of game time. Not great. (And, I will add, before the last couple of minutes of stoppage time, it was sitting at four touches, which also isn’t great.) Teun Koopmeiners recorded nine passes after coming on. Two of them were key passes, which was a team-high total. Not sure if that’s good on Koopmeiners or a reflection of just how much Juve struggled to consistent create chances in the final third of the field. Or maybe it’s both. Quiet game for Kenan Yildiz on the whole. I liked it better when he was scoring goals and doing lots of fun things like he did last weekend. ............ On Sunday, Roma managed to extend this impressive run by clinching a draw at home against Juventus. Manuel Locatelli gave the Bianconeri the lead with a stunning volley in the first half, but Eldor Shomurodov replied shortly after the interval, latching onto the rebound. ............ Nevertheless, Ranieri was impressed by what he saw from his former employers, tipping Juventus to finish the campaign in the Top Four and achieve their main objective by securing Champions League football next season. “We knew that Tudor would bring mentality and determination, as well as vertical play,” said the former Leicester City boss in his post-match interview. “They didn’t surprise us, they were good, they will fight for a place in the Champions League. I bet that this team will finish in the Top Four.” ............ “They scored against us in our best moment. Before that, there was a good save from Svilar and a good opportunity for us. “It was good to score the equalizer straight away, but then again, when you understand that you can’t win, the important thing is not to lose. The draw was a right result.” .
