Nicolò Savona – 6 The new Italy boy looked composed and sharp at the back, but still needs to work on his passing and overall technical skills. Federico Gatti – 6.5 The former Frosinone man was always happy to bully his opponents off the ball, especially Tony Sanabria. He was almost embroiled in a titanic brawl against Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. Pierre Kalulu – 7 Another solid outing at the back from the Milan loanee who hardly put a foot wrong, and was almost always the first to the ball. Andrea Cambiaso – 7.5 An outstanding showing from the versatile full-back who somehow found a channel on the left side and launched a courageous run that yielded the first Juventus goal. He was a thorn in Torino’s back all night, massively contributing to both phases. Manuel Locatelli – 7 The former Sassuolo man is becoming a true general at the heart of Thiago Motta’s lineup. Shielded the backline impeccably and instigated the play that led to the second goal with a precise long ball. Khephren Thuram – 6.5 A dynamic display from the new Juventus signing under the watchful eye of his father Lilian. ............ Timothy Weah – 7 The American was in the right place at the right time to break the deadlock with a simple tap-in. His pace gave Valentino Lazaro nightmares. Teun Koopmeiners – 6 The Dutchman is slowly but surely coming into his own at Juventus, and is already acting as a technical leader, giving instructions to his teammates, especially in the counter-pressing. Threatened to score on a couple of occasions, and picked up Weah with a clever assist for the disallowed goal. Kenan Yildiz – 7.5 The Turkish teenager caused havoc for the Granata almost every time he received the ball. Kickstarted the play that led to Weah’s opener, and sealed the win for Juventus with a sliding header that wrongfooted Milinkovic-Savic. Dusan Vlahovic – 5.5 ............ The Turkish talent scored the second goal of the night against the Granata, while Timothy Weah had opened the account in the first half, capitalising on an impressive Andrea Cambiaso solo attack. The Bianconeri were in control of the match, especially in the first half. Even if Torino tried to bounce back after the break, they were never really dangerous and ended up losing their third consecutive league game. ............ Juventus: Perin 6; Savona 5.5 (86′ Danilo N/A), Gatti 6.5, Kalulu 6.5, Cambiaso 7; Locatelli 6.5, K Thuram 6; Weah 7, Koopmeiners 6.5, Yildiz 8 (86′ McKennie N/A); Vlahovic 5.5 (73′ Conceiçao 7). Coach: Motta 6.5. Best Juventus player – Yildiz 8: He would have been among the best players even without his goal: 95% passing accuracy (20/21) and two successful dribbles from three. He dominated down the left flank and his third goal in Serie A this season was the icing on the cake. Lowest Juventus rating – Vlahovic 5.5: Same rating as Savona, who wasn’t always accurate with the ball at his feet. After a disappointing performance, Vlahovic was subbed off at minute 73: He lost possession seven times and had just 17 touches and 78% passing accuracy. Juventus coach—Motta 6.5: Torino never really troubled the Old Lady: low in confidence and weak in attack. In this scenario, the Bianconeri easily controlled the game and never felt the Granata could score. However, they should have created more goal-scoring opportunities against a team in deep crisis. ............ . I am happy both with the result and the performance, in a derby on home turf, and thank our fans for their support,” Thiago Motta told Sky Sport Italia. “I also want to thank the players, because it was not easy playing the third game in a week, but we remained solid, focused and effective when needed. We certainly deserved the victory.” ............ “I am very happy with Kenan’s goal, because we must keep getting him to attack the back post. Timothy is more accustomed to doing that, he also did very well along with Dusan Vlahovic and Teun Koopmeiners, who help our left-backs by blocking off the movements of the Torino midfielders.” ............ “We started with Tim today because he is going through a great period of form. The game lasts over 90 minutes now, we must be on our toes throughout and realise anything can happen, so we need options off the bench. We can do that by alternating the forwards, while they can and already have also played together. ............ Socrates 8332 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133169 messaggi Inviato November 10 Juventus 2 - Torino 0: Initial reaction and random observations Like so many years before, we can say it once again: Torino é bianconera. Not a bad way to ring in Alessandro Del Piero’s 50th birthday, either. Or when there’s a guy (or gal) in a NASA space suit walking into the stadium and around the field prior to kickoff. Whichever one you prefer, you can go with that one. No matter how you looked at it, the 159th Derby della Mole played out like so many others — and that’s because it ended in a Juventus win. Juve built an early lead through Timothy Weah’s 18th-minute goal in what was a first half in which Thiago Motta’s side was in complete control. And while the second 45 minutes didn’t exactly go as smoothly as the first simply because of the physical nature that became of it, Kenan Yildiz capped the night in which his idol celebrated his golden birthday with a slick diving header to give Juventus a 2-0 win over Torino on Saturday at the Allianz Stadium. Yildiz, as so many hoped he would, proceeded to celebrate like his idol, too — putting the finishing touches on another outing in which he was one of Juve’s leading men. ............ It was a showing that surely will have Motta pleased after taking part in his first Turin derby. Juventus, for the most part, gave Torino very little chance to do much of anything. Even as the pattern of play slowed down a bit in the second half because of its start-stop nature — seriously, there were so many fouls and stoppages to go along with much more even possession — Torino really couldn’t muster much of anything. ............ Considering how Juve were playing going into the last international break, this feels like Motta’s squad is in a better spot now than they were a little over a month ago. So maybe, just maybe, things are starting to click on a consistent basis after a couple of months in which Motta’s squad showed flashes but also struggled to do it a decent amount of the time. ............ RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS Text from a Juventus friend about Yildiz early in the first half: “Would be awesome to score and celebrate with La Linguaccia.” Ask and you shall receive, my friend. Good times. Yildiz deserved that goal with how he played, too. The young man was on one. That run from Cambiaso on the shot that led to Weah’s goal — that was pretty. ............ By the way, Weah has never previously scored more than three goals in a domestic season. He’s now got four goals. It’s only November. Guessing he likes this season a lot better than some of the others. Federico Gatti didn’t have to do Vanja Milinkovic-Savic like that. He really didn’t. ............ Mattia Perin’s first save of the night came in the 89th minute. ............ Going off that, it’s pretty clear that Gatti and Pierre Kalulu are hands down the best pairing in the center of defense during this Bremer-less time of our lives. ............ Speaking of Yildiz, he’s now the third-youngest Juventus player to score in the Derby della Mole, according to Opta. Something tells me that he might score a few more goals against Torino while wearing the No. 10 jersey before it’s all said and done. ............ One more Yildiz stat: Guess who led Juventus in tackles against Torino? Yeah, it was Yildiz. He had five tackles! That’s twice as many as any of his Juve teammates not named Pierre Kalulu. Manuel Locatelli threw out another one of those performances that had a lot of us thinking “What the hell are you thinking, Mister Spalletti?” Teun Koopmeiners will eventually score one of those pullbacks at the top of the box. I promise, he actually will. We don’t know when he will, but he will. Juventus still haven’t suffered defeated to a visiting Torino side since 1995. Life was so much easier back then. ............ Now we go into the international break and hope that nobody gets hurt over the next two weeks. I don’t know about you all, but after seven games in 22 days, I am tired. Time for a rest even though the Juve players who are going out on international duty won’t do that at all.. The Bianconeri have shown flashes of brilliance in some matches, but they’ve also had difficulty in other games, struggling to produce the results they desire. Ciccio Graziani, a well-known football expert, believes there is a clear reason for these ups and downs, largely due to the changes at the club during the summer transfer window. In the offseason, Juventus made significant changes to their squad, including appointing a new manager and bringing in fresh faces to strengthen their team. Thiago Motta has had to adapt to a new environment and work with a squad that features several new players. The mix of new signings and a new tactical system has, understandably, resulted in some inconsistency in performance. While Juventus has been impressive in certain games, the team has also had matches where they struggled to find rhythm and dominate. Despite these challenges, Graziani is optimistic about Juventus’ prospects. ............ Graziani remarked, “Juventus must find continuity in their play, in their team play, but we’ll give them time also because with so many young players and this new course, there can be some ups and downs.” ............ While some critics have been quick to point out their struggles, Graziani believes that these criticisms should be viewed with consideration, given the transitional phase the club is undergoing. As the team continues to evolve, Juventus fans will hope to see more stability and better results in the coming months. . For Juventus, the match is pivotal in maintaining their chase for the Serie A title, as they are currently trailing Inter Milan and Napoli in the standings. The Bianconeri know that every point counts in their quest for the Scudetto, and dropping points against Milan could significantly affect their title hopes. ............ Footballing legend Fabio Capello weighed in on the match, emphasizing the significance of the fixture for both sides. Capello stated: “In this challenge, the Rossoneri team will play more, but whoever comes out defeated risks missing the last train to the Scudetto. This applies to everyone, including Fonseca. If the Bianconeri were to make a blitz, they would send a strong signal to the championship. One of the keys to the San Siro match is Vlahovic. If Milan insists on the exasperated offside, the Serbian will be decisive by attacking the depth. Dusan moves very well in the area and in uncertain aspects he reminds Trezeguet.” ............ For Juventus, the game at San Siro represents a must-win opportunity to solidify their place in the title race and send a strong message to the rest of the league. Former Milan star Alessandro Costacurta has weighed in on the match, stating that Milan is under more pressure to win. ............ According to Costacurta, Milan cannot afford to lose to Juventus if they want to stay competitive in the title race. He explained that a defeat would push them further away from the top spots and could have a negative psychological impact, given the growing number of teams in front of them. ............ On the other hand, Juventus is also outside the top five, but their position appears less dire. Although the Bianconeri remain unbeaten, they have drawn too many matches, which has hampered their climb up the league table. Socrates 8332 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133169 messaggi Inviato Giovedì alle 15:23 Preview: AC Milan vs. Juventus - prediction, team news, lineups Two Serie A giants will convene on Saturday evening, as AC Milan welcome Juventus to San Siro. Milan slipped six points behind Juve after a six-goal thriller with Cagliari just before the break, while the Bianconeri's latest Turin derby win kept them in a six-way scrap for top spot. Match preview ............ Just before the break, Juventus continued their long dominance of city rivals Torino, extending a record run in the Derby della Mole to 19 games without defeat. Goals from Timothy Weah and Kenan Yildiz decided the Turin derby in the Bianconeri's favour, keeping them within two points of top spot after a dozen matches. For all their flaws and injury issues, Juve have made an unbeaten start to the Serie A season, both drawing and winning six games, and they are in the thick of a potentially fascinating title race - six teams are currently separated by two points. Thiago Motta's men - who sit just above Milan in the Champions League table - have kept four clean sheets in the first five away fixtures of their top-flight campaign, though they conceded four goals in a wild Derby d'Italia against Inter. Returning to San Siro this week, Juventus will aim to avoid such an uncharacteristic loss of control, as victory would not only boost their own Scudetto hopes but also strike a huge blow to Milan's. ............ Team News ............ Juve will be missing their focal point up front, as top scorer Dusan Vlahovic has been hit by a thigh injury; back-up striker Arkadiusz Milik will not return until next year. Therefore, either Timothy Weah - son of Milan legend George Weah - or Kenan Yildiz could fill in as a false nine, with support from Francisco Conceicao and Teun Koopmeiners. Should Yildiz score on Saturday, he would reach six Serie A goals for Juventus at the tender age of 19 years and 203 days, surpassing Alessandro Del Piero and becoming the seventh-youngest player to do so. Having been brought back into the Italy squad following improved performances this season, Manuel Locatelli - one of 10 men to have scored for both teams in this fixture - should start in midfield, where Douglas Luiz may be absent again. The latter could be forced to join Vlahovic, Milik, Juan Cabal, Nico Gonzalez and his fellow Brazilian Bremer on the sidelines. AC Milan possible starting lineup: Maignan; Emerson, Thiaw, Tomori, Hernandez; Fofana, Reijnders; Chukwueze, Pulisic, Leao; Morata Juventus possible starting lineup: Di Gregorio; Savona, Kalulu, Gatti, Cambiaso; Locatelli, Thuram; Conceicao, Koopmeiners, Yildiz; Weah We say: AC Milan 1-1 Juventus Milan may come up short in their quest to halt Juve's unbeaten run, as their vulnerable back four cannot be relied upon to stay watertight for 90 minutes. Although the Bianconeri are short of some key players, they have proven to be resilient since Thiago Motta took charge, while Paulo Fonseca's potential-packed side are prone to costly errors. . Socrates 8332 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133169 messaggi Inviato Venerdì alle 18:32 Serie A Preview: Milan vs Juventus – Team News, Line-ups & Prediction One of the most fascinating match-ups in European football takes place at San Siro this Saturday as eternal rivals Milan and Juventus renew hostilities in a Serie A blockbuster. The stakes are at an all-time high for home manager Paulo Fonseca following an underwhelming start to his second coaching job in Italy. ............ In contrast to Fonseca’s early struggles at San Siro, Thiago Motta hasn’t lost a single league game since replacing Massimiliano Allegri in Juventus’ dugout. Goals from Tim Weah and Kenan Yildiz inspired the Bianconeri to a routine 2-0 home triumph against crosstown rivals Torino in the previous round. As a result of their second consecutive Serie A win, Juventus entered the international break only two points adrift of table-topping Napoli. Furthermore, they could make it three league victories in a row for the first time this season, perhaps at the expense of Fonseca’s managerial post in Lombardy. Match Preview Milan ............ Juventus Despite commencing this round as the only side in Serie A yet to lose a league fixture, a high volume of draws has plagued Juventus’ quest to regain the Scudetto after four years. Motta’s men have drawn a league joint-high six matches, with only Bologna and Empoli sharing the spoils as often as the Bianconeri. That inability to convert stalemates into victories has seen Juventus alternate between winning and drawing across their five league travels this term (W3, D2). However, defensive solidity has been a constant. Except for a memorable 4-4 draw at this stadium against Inter, they’ve kept a clean sheet in all four remaining away Serie A games. Juve’s standout defensive resilience on the road forms part of the club’s outstanding record of nine shutouts in the opening 12 rounds. That’s their best defensive start to a new top-flight campaign since a title-winning 2014/15 season under Max Allegri. In addition to their formidable defensive record, Juventus have been firing on all cylinders in hostile environments, netting 3+ goals in four of their seven competitive away matches this season. Team News ............ On the other hand, Juventus suffered a significant injury setback earlier this week as Dusan Vlahovic returned from his duty with Serbia with a knock. Therefore, he’ll join Arkadiusz Milik, Nicolas Gonzalez, Douglas Luiz, Juan Cabal, Gleison Bremer, and Vasilije Adzic on the sidelines. Milan vs Juventus Potential Starting Line-ups Milan (4-2-3-1): Mike Maignan; Emerson Royal, Malick Thiaw, Strahinja Pavlovic, Theo Hernandez; Youssouf Fofana, Tijjani Reijnders; Samuel Chukwueze, Christian Pulisic, Rafael Leao; Alvaro Morata. Milan vs Juventus Prediction A notorious lack of consistency has been Milan’s Achilles heel during Fonseca’s regime. Yet, barring the abovementioned fiasco against Napoli, they’ve fared astonishingly in high-profile matches. As for Juventus, they’ve been a tough nut to crack, especially outside the Allianz Stadium. On that basis, we believe the arch-rivals could share the spoils, as they did in a scoreless draw in Turin in April. Prediction: Draw . Regarding the striker situation, Motta emphasized the diverse characteristics of his players, saying, “All my players have different characteristics, beyond the central attackers or midfielders. It gives alternatives and different solutions; it will be the same tomorrow.” However, he confirmed that Dusan Vlahovic would not be part of the group due to injury, along with several other players. Addressing Vlahovic’s recent comments about team dynamics, Motta remarked, “We have talked, and we are in agreement. And that’s the important thing. We all run, we all attack together, and we all defend together. We’re going in the same direction. I have confidence in all my players, including Dusan.” ............ Regarding the challenge posed by Milan, he acknowledged their strength in transition: “Milan is very strong in transition; they are confident. We have players with both technical and physical characteristics to put many teams in difficulty. Their transitions are something we need to pay close attention to.” ............ Motta also took a moment to address rumors linking him to Milan: “I was never close to Milan.” As Juventus prepares for this crucial match against their rivals, Motta’s comments reflect a focus on team unity, tactical flexibility, and the importance of every player’s contribution in their pursuit of success in Serie A. He concluded with determination: “Tomorrow we enter the field to play our game.” . Socrates 8332 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133169 messaggi Inviato Sabato alle 19:45 Juventus maintains unbeaten run with goalless draw at AC Milan Juventus and AC Milan played out a goalless draw in what proved to be a tight and tactical encounter this evening. The match showcased moments of promise from both sides but ultimately lacked the clinical finishing required to separate them. ............ Kenan Yildiz, one of Juve’s brightest young talents, also came close to opening the scoring but was unable to convert his chance. Juve’s counter-attacks looked menacing, and they often seemed the more dangerous side during the first half-hour. Milan, meanwhile, created some promising moments of their own, with Emerson Royal missing a key opportunity right before halftime. ............ As the game progressed into its final stages, Thiago Motta introduced fresh legs in the form of Samuel Mbangula, Timothy Weah, and Nicolò Fagioli in an attempt to tilt the balance. Yet, the defences of both teams remained resolute, leaving the match to end without a goal. While Juventus may rue their inability to capitalise on their chances, the draw keeps them unbeaten in Serie A. Milan, on the other hand, will view this as a missed opportunity to solidify their position among the league’s elite. Both teams will need to sharpen their attacking edges as they look to maintain momentum in their campaigns. . Socrates 8332 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133169 messaggi Inviato Sabato alle 20:56 Juventus 0 - AC Milan 0: Initial reaction and random observations It was the kind of night that suggested maybe playing with a natural No. 9 on the field is better than not. After the opening 45 minutes of Juventus’ second trip to the San Siro in less than a month Saturday night, the only thought running through my head was basically this: “It sure would be nice if this team had an actual No. 9 available right now.” Of course, I knew that wasn’t possible considering both of the actual No. 9s that Juve have on their roster were back in Turin watching on TV rather than being in Milan. ............ Those fireworks that we saw in Juve’s first trip to San Siro this season were far from replicated Saturday night. As much as the Derby d’Italia was total chaos from both sides for the majority of the 90 minutes last month, the same won’t come close to being said in Juventus’ scoreless draw against Milan. There were eight goals combined between the two sides in that thrilling draw with Inter, but in this draw the number of shots on goal didn’t even reach half that number. It was, essentially, two teams looking completely off their game and combining for a high-profile matchup that didn’t come close to meeting the quality of yesteryear. We knew Juventus were up against it considering the lack of any natural No. 9 — and they very much played like it. ............ The scoring chances were few and far between. There were many more instances of misplaced passes and bad turnovers than there were of beautiful interplay and combinations that led to scoring opportunities. It was, really, a night to forget for a lot of Juve’s players. But, at the same time, considering what they were up against and the circumstances they entered Saturday night’s game under, is it hard to be totally upset with how things played out? On the micro level, a draw at the San Siro when you’ve got no No. 9 available and you’re asking the guy who usually plays in the No. 10 role to suddenly do something he hasn’t done all season, it’s a tough deal and a draw certainly isn’t the worst result. ............ RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS Juventus players out due to injury against Milan: 7. Juventus players on the bench against Milan: 7. Of the five outfield players on the bench for Juventus against Milan, Thiago Motta ended up using four of them. Poor Jonas Rouhi, he was left on the bench and couldn’t join his friends. In short, this was not a very well-played game by either side. Just so many mistakes. So, so many. ............ I feel like it’s pretty safe to say one of the few good things to come out of this night was the continued improvements of Khephren Thuram. Amidst all of the sloppiness around the field, Thuram really showed that he’s starting to settle in as he’s seen his playing time become much more consistent. He was an absolute monster on the defensive side of things, and the 1,000 tackles he made are proof of that. (OK, it’s actually six, but it felt like so much more than that.) This is the player that Cristiano Giuntoli was so eager to sign this past summer. ............ It didn’t take long to see just how uncomfortable Koopmeiners was in his makeshift role Saturday night. Sometimes he was drifting too wide. Other times he was drifting too deep. Some of the time, he was both too wide and too deep. Unsurprisingly, it was a guy who hadn’t really played this role being thrust into it and not totally being sure of things. It was just a night in which pretty much all of the good things that Koopmeiners does well just were thrown off their axis. ............ In conclusion, I would like Vlahovic’s hamstring to get better so that he can play against Aston Villa on Wednesday night. It sure would be nice to have an actual striker in there again. But that’s just one guy’s opinion on things. Socrates 8332 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133169 messaggi Inviato Sabato alle 21:13 (modificato) Thiago Motta: ‘Valuable point for Juventus against Milan’ Thiago Motta admits Juventus were not at their best in the 0-0 draw away to Milan, but all things considered it is ‘a valuable point’ and performance. The Bianconeri came into San Siro forced to completely revamp amid an injury crisis, including Dusan Vlahovic, Arkadiusz Milik and Nico Gonzalez, leaving them with no available strikers. They used Teun Koopmeiners as an unorthodox False 9 supported by Weston McKennie in the trequartista role, so can consider this 0-0 at San Siro to be a positive result in the circumstances. “I am satisfied with the work we did defensively against a team that was allowed very little, practically nothing,” Thiago Motta told DAZN. ............ “I think overall a point is valuable, can give a sense of consistency, and I am glad to see a team that behaves like a big club. I am proud of my players after a good performance in our circumstances.” ............ This means Juventus remain unbeaten in Serie A this season and register another clean sheet, but they have now drawn seven of their 13 games and are three points worse off than last season. “It is inevitable people will make comparisons to last season, but also impossible because so much has changed,” continued Thiago Motta. “We should be pleased with what we have done so far, but we’re not even halfway through the campaign. Now we need to keep going and improve many elements, knowing we’ve been on the right path for a while.” Thiago Motta becomes only the fifth Juventus coach in history to avoid losing any of his first 13 Serie A matches in charge. ............ “Khephren has been improving for a while. I don’t like to talk about individuals, but the performance we saw today showed such improvement, mentality and strength, both on and off the ball. He is a player who can become very important and he is growing with such pace. “I can say that because I know his values and mentality, so I am sure he will have a fantastic career path. Since the first day, he has always been eager to give more and we are the ones who must tell him to calm down, get some rest. This is the kind of player a coach always wants in his squad.” . Socrates 8332 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133169 messaggi Inviato Sabato alle 21:24 Pierre Kalulu insists it is good not to lose at AC Milan Pierre Kalulu reflected positively on the 0-0 draw between Juventus and AC Milan, suggesting that while it wasn’t the ideal result, it was still valuable given the quality of the opposition. The stalemate ensures Juventus remain unbeaten in Serie A, while Milan’s title hopes continue to face challenges as they drop more points. ............ Kalulu, currently on loan, acknowledged the significance of the result. He remarked: “Important point, against a quality opponent. We could have done more to win, but it was away, and when we don’t lose it’s good to advance.” He further noted the unique atmosphere of playing in a stadium with such history and prestige, adding: “It’s not a game like the others, there’s always an extra emotion. I have to be a professional, but in this stadium it’s something different.” ............ As Serie A continues, the pressure mounts for both clubs. Juventus will take confidence from their unbeaten run, but they understand that victories, not draws, are essential to close the gap at the top of the standings. Milan, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly if they are to remain serious title contenders. .
