Socrates 8330 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133124 messaggi Inviato September 19 Juventus 3 - PSV Eindhoven 1: Initial reaction and random observations The European lights may have returned to Turin on Tuesday night, but we weren’t totally sure what Juventus we were going to see against a high-powered opposition in the form of PSV Eindhoven. ............ Instead, at one point, you just wondered when Juventus would actually stop scoring. The Juventus attack certainly woke up in the club’s first Champions League fixture since November 2022. And, as it turned out, the spark was from their youngest player on the field, with Kenan Yildiz scoring a goal that the man who he idolized and now wears the same jersey number of would be proud. ............ With his goal, Yildiz did the following: Became the first player to score in the Champions League’s new-look league phase. Became the youngest Juventus player to ever score in the Champions League, a record previously held be a fella named Alessandro Del Piero. And in his year and change with Juventus’ senior team, Yildiz has also done the following: Scored in his first Serie A start Scored in his first Coppa Italia start Scored in his first Champions League start Not bad for a young man who doesn’t turn 20 years old until NEXT MAY. ............ Yes, it came against a shorthanded PSV side, so there’s going to be that caveat. But after watching struggling to put much on frame the last couple of games, you just wanted to see something resembling progress rather than a team that looked unfamiliar with one another and still totally a work in progress. That doesn’t mean Juve are suddenly fixed and there’s no more reason to expect performances like we’ve seen the last two times against Serie A opposition. They are still very much a work in progress because there are so many new components. ............ RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS This was the youngest starting XI that Juventus has ever fielded in the Champions League. And what do you know? They played pretty damn well. Something that will go under-appreciated about Yildiz’s goal: the run that Andrea Cambiaso made right before the shot was taken. It totally threw off the man who was defending Yildiz, and as Cambiaso did an overlapping kind of run the defender went with him, opened a shooting lane for Yildiz and the young No. 10 did the rest. It was just beautiful all the way around. ............ Nico Gonzalez is a D-A-W-G. Dude worked his tail off on McKennie’s goal and just overall. He might have been one of the biggest beneficiaries of how PSV approached things Tuesday night. Now we just need to see him not lose possession that much. Here’s McKennie, rising out of the coffin like The Undertaker once again at Juventus, scoring in Europe to help his team get a memorable win. That’s just what Wes does, man. ............ Vlahovic touched the ball just 10 times in the first half, but something tells me that the 2-0 lead over PSV made that a little easier to be OK with. Vlahovic certainly had chances to score in the second half and couldn’t put anything away. That chance he had on the great ball from Koopmeiners was probably the best of the bunch. I’m not worried about Vlahovic ... yet. But as we know, he has these spells without any goals. The last thing he needs is to start the season under a new manager in this kind of way. Hopefully with the playmakers around him settling in will take some of the pressure off a player who already has a ton of pressure on him to begin with. Speaking of Koopmeiners, I think it should surprise anybody that the more involved he was resulted in him having a much better game as compared to what we saw over the weekend. ............ Before their match against PSV, Juve had gone two games without scoring, prompting some media outlets to compare their style in the goalless draw against Empoli to that of Max Allegri’s more defensive approach. That comparison wasn’t a compliment, and Juventus needed to deliver a response in the PSV match—and they did. ............ After the game, Sabatini said: “The performance is overall remarkable, or rather brilliant. Clearly the best match of the Bianconeri season because not all matches won by scoring three goals are the same, obviously. The highly anticipated fixture is scheduled for Saturday at the Allianz Stadium. Napoli, under former Juventus manager Antonio Conte, comes into the match with momentum from three consecutive victories, while the Bianconeri remain undefeated this season with three wins and two draws. The main concern for Juventus heading into this crucial match is the fitness of Federico Gatti. The defender underwent a light training session today as the medical staff closely monitored his condition. Gatti was substituted just before the 60-minute mark in yesterday’s match due to a minor ankle sprain, with Danilo taking his place. ............ Thiago Motta is adamant about not risking the player if he’s not at 100% fitness and will only field him if he’s in optimal condition. As a result, Gatti will be under close observation by the medical team in the coming days. Gatti has quickly become a cornerstone of Juventus’ new era, serving as a reference point for both new signings and young players. His grit and determination have made him a locker room leader, guiding the team through the early stages of the season. Under Thiago Motta, Juventus has generally had a positive start, and this victory marks a welcomed return to form. ............ The key to their victory was strong teamwork, but pundit Luca Marchegiani highlighted two critical areas: Juventus’ midfield and wingers. He noted that both areas were in top form and played a pivotal role in securing the win. Socrates 8330 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133124 messaggi Inviato September 20 Preview: Juventus vs. Napoli - prediction, team news, lineups Two Serie A giants will go toe to toe in Turin, as Juventus host Antonio Conte's Napoli on Saturday evening. While Juve are still unbeaten and made an impressive Champions League return in midweek, the visitors have bounced back from a first-day defeat to collect maximum points from their next three matches. Match preview © Imago Making their Champions League comeback after one year away, Juventus took on free-scoring Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday, and despite losing their clean-sheet record, Thiago Motta's men ran out 3-1 winners in their league-phase opener. Kenan Yildiz started the scoring, before goals from Weston McKennie and Nico Gonzalez put the points out of PSV's reach, and even conceding in stoppage time could not take the shine off a statement victory. Under new boss Motta, Juve started the season in style, posting back-to-back 3-0 wins before going slightly off the boil, recording successive 0-0 draws against Roma and Empoli. The Bianconeri have now posted four straight clean sheets to start a Serie A season for just the fifth time ever, and with several new signings joining a handful of young stars in their squad this season, they may expect to fight it out for the title. ............ Juve have won 10 of their last 13 home games against Napoli, including a 1-0 success last season, so they will aim to continue in that vein this weekend, when one of their all-time great coaches returns to Turin. Among men with at least 50 games in charge of the Bianconeri, Antonio Conte (68%) sits second in terms of win percentage across all competitions. Furthermore, he is one of only six coaches to have surpassed 100 wins while with Juventus. ............ Team News © Imago Thiago Motta may make some changes to his lineup, with Juventus having played in midweek, as Khephren Thuram, Nicolo Fagioli and Douglas Luiz all push for promotion from the bench. After Federico Gatti came off injured on Tuesday, versatile Brazilian defender Danilo could be brought into the hosts' back four. Only ex-Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik and Francisco Conceicao are definitely sidelined. Sure to start up front, Dusan Vlahovic will seek his second goal of the season, as he tries to improve a weak record against Saturday's opponents: the Serbian has scored just once in 516 minutes played versus Napoli to date. ............ Juventus possible starting lineup: Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Danilo, Bremer, Cambiaso; Locatelli, Luiz; Gonzalez, Koopmeiners, Yildiz; Vlahovic Napoli possible starting lineup: Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Buongiorno; Mazzocchi, Lobotka, Anguissa, Spinazzola; Politano, Kvaratskhelia; Lukaku We say: Juventus 1-1 Napoli It promises to be a tight tactical battle between two intense coaches, as a couple of Calcio heavyweights scrap it out on Saturday evening. Napoli have attempted the most shots so far in Serie A (72), but well-drilled Juventus have faced the fewest (25) and could grind out another draw. Socrates 8330 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133124 messaggi Inviato September 20 Juventus vs Napoli – Team News, Line-ups & Prediction One of the most heavily anticipated fixtures in the Serie A calendar pits Juventus and Napoli against each other at the Allianz Stadium. Saturday is a special occasion for the Turin faithful as their former player and manager, Antonio Conte, rolls into town as a foe. Juventus returned to winning ways during the week after back-to-back scoreless league draws against Roma and Empoli. Another high-octane first-half performance from Thiago Motta’s side resulted in a 3-1 thumping of Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in their curtain-raising Champions League fixture on Tuesday. Despite dropping four points across their last two Serie A fixtures, Juventus will take the field in a buoyant mood as the only team in the Italian top flight yet to concede this season. The Bianconeri will rely on their defensive resilience to carry them to another victory as they bid to overhaul a one-point deficit on their upcoming opposition. ............ Match Preview Juventus Quick-fire starts have been a running theme during Motta’s early tenure. Juventus were 2-0 up at halftime in all three previous competitive wins under the ex-Bologna coach, highlighting the potential for a devastating match entry. But the Bianconeri cannot take anything for granted. The recent history of this match-up prohibits lofty expectations, with Juventus trailing Napoli at the break in three of their last five encounters (W1, D1, L3). But as one of only two Serie A teams still unscathed in the first half this term, the hosts are confident of flipping the script. Further inspiration stems from the air of invincibility surrounding the Allianz Stadium. Since an underwhelming 1-0 loss to Udinese in early February, Juventus haven’t lost any of their last 11 home outings across all competitions (W6, D5), recording seven clean sheets in that sequence. ............ Team News In addition to long-term absentee Paul Pogba, Juventus cannot call upon the services of injured backup striker Arkadiusz Milik. Francisco Conceicao is edging closer to recovering from a minor fitness issue. Yet, there’s a question mark over Federico Gatti’s availability after Motta took him off against PSV due to an injury scare. As for Napoli, Mario Rui is the only missing player after being cast away from the first-team squad by Conte. After picking up another assist off the bench against Cagliari, David Neres could take Matteo Politano’s place in the starting XI and line up alongside Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Lukaku. Juventus vs Napoli Potential Line-ups Juventus (4-2-3-1): Michele Di Gregorio; Pierre Kalulu, Danilo, Gleison Bremer, Andrea Cambiaso; Manuel Locatelli, Douglas Luiz; Nicolas Gonzalez, Teun Koopmeiners, Kenan Yildiz; Dusan Vlahovic. Napoli (3-4-2-1): Alex Meret; Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Amir Rrahmani, Alessandro Buongiorno; Pasquale Mazzocchi, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Stanislav Lobotka, Leonardo Spinazzola; Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, David Neres; Romelu Lukaku. Juventus vs Napoli Prediction Goals have been at a premium in recent meetings between Juventus and Napoli. Two of the last three have yielded an identical 1-0 scoreline. Given the home side’s outstanding defensive start, another low-scoring contest is well on the cards. There’s a feeling that whoever gets on the scoresheet first will claim three points. Juventus are favorites on paper, and we back them to live up to that tag by seeing off Napoli by a single-goal margin. However their little winning run came to an end as we suffer another stalemate at the Allianz. ............ Juventus started with the lion’s share of posession early on but could not break through the lines of a Napoli side content to settle into the game slowly. It took almost half an hour for us to get an attempt on target. Scott McTominay had been doing a good job in midfield for Napoli, finding pockets of space to exploit. He struck a full blooded shot at Michele Di Gregorio from well over 20 metres out, the pace causing the goalie issues and he was fortunate Romelu Lukaku couldn’t put away the rebound. ............ Socrates 8330 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133124 messaggi Inviato September 21 Juventus 0 - Napoli 0: Initial reaction and random observations Another scoreless draw in Serie A, my friends. Well, I guess the good part in all of this is that Juventus, while they are struggling to score against their last three Italian opponents, aren’t exactly allowing anything, either. So there’s that. But the problem is, for the third straight Serie A weekend, Thiago Motta’s squad has failed to do much of anything in front of goal. First it was Roma before the international break, then it was Empoli coming out of the international break, and now it’s another night to forget in attack, this time coming Saturday night in a scoreless draw against Napoli and old “buddy” Antonio Conte. It didn’t really matter how much possession Juventus had — and especially in the second half, which was a lot of it — the chances were truly few and far between no matter who was in goal for Napoli on this day. And because of it, even with another clean sheet in Serie A, Juventus dropped more points — now six in the last few weeks — in what was another very winnable game. ............ But even with the clear-cut back pass that wasn’t called, Juventus had chances. The problem was, as it has been the last couple of games against Serie A opposition, putting things on frame. How bad was it in the second half? Well let’s just go ahead and take a look ... Possession: 71% Total shots: 7 Shots on goal: 0 Second-half xG: 0.22 ............ RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS Oh, you thought the no call on the back pass was the only major screw-up from Daniele Doveri? Well, let’s go back to the first half where Bremer got a set of studs right to the middle of his shin and nothing was called. Serie A refereeing at its finest. If you wanted a prime example of how exhausted some of these dues were at the final whistle, just go ahead and look back at Yildiz and Cambiaso walking off the field. Absolutely GASSED. Wojciech Szczesny got a warm welcome in his return to Allianz Stadium. When his name was announced over the PA system as starting lineups were read, it’s pretty safe to say that Antonio Conte did not get that same kind of reception. In short: “BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” Speaking of Szczesny and the pre-game ceremony Juve held to honor their former starting goalkeeper, look at this outfit and tell me this guy isn’t enjoying retirement. ............ Dusan Vlahovic’s 45 minutes looked like this: six touches, four passes attempted, two passes completed, 0-for-3 on aerial duels and lost possession three times. You can see why Thiago Motta gave him the hook at the half simply because of production even with the lack of a natural backup currently on the bench. Just to state for the record, Motta said that everything is fine with Vlahovic physically, which means him being replaced by Timothy Weah at the start of the second half was purely a tactical decision. ............ Bremer looked like a natural with the captain’s armband on. Bremer also locked up Romelu Lukaku for the umpteenth time. I’ve lost count at this point. Danilo: unused sub. Douglas Luiz: unused sub. I think Andrea Cambiaso had about 456 touches on the ball and his heat map looked like the opposite of what a lazy Sunday after Juventus plays on a Saturday looks like. In actuality, Cambiaso had 117 touches — which is just wild for somebody who starts at fullback. ............ Pierre Kalulu looks like an absolute steal and I’m wondering why in the hell AC Milan decided that he should be an expendable player this summer. If he keeps playing this way, activating that buy option is going to be one of the easiest decisions Cristiano Giuntoli makes next year. ............ Motta addressed several key points about the match and his tactical decisions. Regarding Vlahovic’s performance, Motta stated, “Vlahovic is doing well. He had a good first half and helped the team by attacking the depth, even though there wasn’t much of it today.” The manager also praised Weah’s impact as a substitute, noting, “Weah came on well. We reached the final meters, and that’s where we need to improve.” Motta acknowledged the team’s potential for improvement, especially in attack. “Certainly, when a team sits back, it’s not easy for anyone. We have the quality to do it, but we’re on the right path,” he explained. “We need to change the rhythm and attack the depth. Socrates 8330 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133124 messaggi Inviato September 22 Motta: Juve ‘have to do something more’ to break out of Serie A scoring drought There’s no lacking for things to discuss following Juventus third straight scoreless draw in Serie A. Coming into Juventus’ early-season showdown with Napoli and former manager Antonio Conte, the hope was that Thiago Motta’s squad could break out of their scoring funk that has seen them fail to find the back of the net in back-to-back league fixtures. The hope, at least for one more day, went up in smoke as things went on Saturday night against Napoli. Juventus recorded their third straight scoreless draw Saturday night, with the same sorts of problems that hampered them in their previous outings against Roma and Empoli on either side of the international break. Juve were hoping to continue their goal-scoring moment from their midweek Champions League win over Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven, but could only muster a grand total of two shots on target and rarely test a Napoli side that had to bring in their backup goalkeeper midway through the first half due to an injury to Alex Meret. “In order to win, we have to do something more,” said Motta, whose team has yet to lose a game this season but has also dropped points in their last three Serie A fixtures. “We’ve been up against teams with good players, we did well today, but clearly we cannot be happy with the result, because we always play to win. This remains the right path, we pinned Napoli back for long periods and need to do better in the final third.” “When a team clams up in defense,” Motta continued, “it’s not easy for anyone to break them down. We are on the right track, we have the quality to do better with a change of tempo, shots from outside the box, there are many ways we can unlock them and we have the characteristics to do that.” ............ “Vlahovic is fine, he has no physical problem. He had a good first half, tried to attack the space, although there wasn’t much of it today because Napoli clammed up and limited the spaces,” Motta said. “It was a good (team) performance, but clearly we got to the final third and that is where we need to improve. Weah was meant to alternate, which Tim did well in the second half, and also attack the penalty area. They each have their own characteristics and ways of helping the team.” ............ “Kalulu and Koopmeiners only recently joined the club, but they have a fantastic attitude, they are two examples of that,” Motta said. “(Manuel) Locatelli had a great game today, he trains well, he always communicates with his teammates. He’s always focused on what he has to do, that’s why Manu plays.” A player who has surprisingly started the last couple of games is Weston McKennie, who looked destined to leave Juventus for much of the summer before he was brought back into the squad prior to the 2024-25 season opener. ............ “He is a player who reads the spaces well, can get into the opposition penalty area, help out in attack and defense,” Motta said. “We have strong players who together can show their potential to the benefit for the whole team.” Read more -> https://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2024/9/22/24250822/thiago-motta-juventus-napoli-2024-serie-a-matchday-5-final-score-result-manager-comments-analysis Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

There was set to be a huge crowd in the stands for the big game, but reports suggest it will instead be played behind closed doors. A final decision will be made by the local authorities on Friday morning and all signs are currently pointing towards an empty stadium. This is a strong response to the violent clashes that happened both before and after last night’s Coppa Italia Second Round tie between rivals Genoa and Sampdoria. ............ Socrates 8330 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133124 messaggi Inviato September 27 Serie A Preview: Genoa vs Juventus – Team News, Line-ups & Prediction Stadio Luigi Ferraris sets the stage for Saturday’s high-stakes Serie A showdown between mid-table Genoa and Scudetto hopefuls Juventus. Both sides have stuttered at the start of the new league campaign and hope to turn things around this weekend. Genoa have claimed one win in the opening five league rounds for their fifth consecutive top-flight campaign (W1, D2, L2). Alberto Gilardino’s men have slumped to a horrendous 2-0 loss to newcomers Venezia a week ago. As a result, it’s been a month since the Griffins last won a match in Serie A. ............ The Bianconeri shared the spoils with Napoli in another uneventful 0-0 draw last weekend. It was their third consecutive scoreless stalemate in Serie A, a feat unheard of in Turin since 1992. As such, Motta’s frontline has already come under scrutiny. Juventus march toward Genoa in pursuit of redemption, seeking their first league triumph since late August. Match Preview Genoa ............ Juventus Juventus can exploit Genoa’s poor state of mind, as Motta needs to resolve the visitors’ travel sickness to bolster their chances of dethroning Inter this season. Juve’s overly cautious approach on their road trips has seen five of their last six away league matches ended all square. That’s part of a more sinister pattern. Indeed, Juventus have claimed just one win in their last ten Serie A games outside the Allianz Stadium (D6, L3). Motta might not be the ideal man to inspire the Bianconeri to a much-needed road success, having slumped to a 2-0 defeat on this ground while in charge of Bologna last term. There’s another ominous sign for Juventus. Tendency to share the spoils has been their scourge in 2024, with no team from Europe’s traditional top-five leagues posting more draws this calendar year than the Turin outfit. On a positive note, the visitors can take heart from entering this round as the only Serie A team yet to concede a league goal this season. Team News Genoa cannot call upon the services of Ukrainian midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi, who underwent ankle surgery last week. ............ Juventus loanee Fabio Miretti has recently returned to full fitness and could face his parent club this weekend. As for the visitors, Federico Gatti is back after a short spell on the sidelines. His return means Pierre Kalulu or Nicolo Savona would likely drop to the bench. Motta will be without Paul Pogba, Arkadiusz Milik, and Timothy Weah. Dusan Vlahovic will be under the spotlight as he seeks his first league goal since August. Genoa vs Juventus Potential Line-ups Genoa (3-5-2): Pierluigi Gollini; Koni De Winter, Mattia Bani, Johan Vasquez; Stefano Sabelli, Morten Thorsby, Milan Badelj, Morten Frendrup, Aaron Martin; Vitinha, Andrea Pinamonti. Juventus (4-1-4-1): Michele Di Gregorio; Nicolo Savona, Federico Gatti, Gleison Bremer, Andrea Cambiaso; Manuel Locatelli; Nicolas Gonzalez, Khephren Thuram, Teun Koopmeiners, Kenan Yildiz; Dusan Vlahovic. Genoa vs Juventus Prediction This contest has all the makings of an Italian classic but not in terms of stature. We expect this to be a low-scoring fixture with only a handful of scoring chances on both ends. Juventus often thrive in such circumstances, so we back the visitors to claim a narrow 1-0 win. Socrates 8330 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133124 messaggi Inviato September 28 The Dusan Vlahovic show gets Juventus back to winning ways Juve earned a 3-0 win against Genoa this evening as they returned to winning ways in Serie A. It was a slow start to the game, with nothing impressive in attack during the opening 20 minutes. ............ Thiago Motta knew his team couldn’t afford another stalemate, and his players responded almost immediately after the break. Vlahovic converted a superb penalty to open the scoring for the Old Lady, which brought them to life. The Serbian soon added a second, thanks to a stunning pass from Teun Koopmeiners. Juve now controlled the game and could have scored a third if the bar hadn’t denied Koopmeiners. ............ Just after Mattia Perin made a great save to preserve Juve’s clean sheet, Francisco Conceicao sealed the win with Juve’s third goal. This was a performance to be proud of, and their fans will be delighted.
