The 19-year-old Turkish forward spoke after the match, expressing his excitement and satisfaction with the team’s performance. “I’m a bit nervous now,” Yildiz said with a laugh. “The goal? I slept very well last night. We played a great match, and I’m happy. Andrea made his run on the left and helped me with the goal.” ............ Alessandro Del Piero, who was watching the match, offered glowing praise for the young talent: “He’s very good with his first touch and at taking on opponents. He has a very precise and powerful shot, placing it where no one can reach. It was a spectacular goal in how he conceived it. Congratulations to him. He’s taken on the responsibility of wearing the number 10 shirt, and he needs to be supported and given time. He has quality and is showing what he should be displaying.” ............ Socrates 8322 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133025 messaggi Inviato September 19 Kenan Yildiz Enters Juventus Folklore with PSV Screamer Kenan Yildiz grabbed the headlines as Juventus picked apart PSV Eindhoven to get their Champions League campaign off to a flyer. The Turin powerhouse routed the Dutch champions 3-1 on the back of the teenager’s incredible opening goal. Many were surprised when Juventus handed the Turkish prodigy the coveted number ten in the summer. Four consecutive Serie A starts without a goal only fueled the skepticism. However, Yildiz’s unquestionable talent has never been a subject of discussion. ............ Juventus had plenty of questions to answer on Tuesday. And they passed the test with flying colors, inspired by Yildiz’s sublime performance. The ex-Bayern Munich academy player opened the scoring with a stunning strike from the edge of the box for his first Champions League goal. In doing so, Yildiz carved his name out in the club’s folklore. His strike came at the expense of Juventus icon Alessandro Del Piero, making him the youngest-ever Bianconeri star to score in European football. Del Piero long held the record, having netted at 20 years and 308 days. But Yildiz removed the legendary Italy international from the throne, scoring at 19 years and 136 days. If this achievement is a sign of things to come, Juventus can look forward to the future with great optimism. Socrates 8322 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133025 messaggi Inviato September 19 Kenan Yildiz: Juventus have finally found the 'next Alessandro Del Piero' When Kenan Yildiz latched onto the ball on the left side, raced forward, dropped the shoulder to cut inside past a PSV Eindhoven defender, and then curled beautifully into the far top tight corner of the net, every single Juventus fan in attendance at the Allianz Stadium or at home on their sofa stood up and shouted the same thing: "Del Pierooooo!" And while this was a Freudian slip, it was a pretty damn understandable one. First off, the goal was scored by a player donning Juve's famous number ten jersey - something synonymous with club icon Alessandro Del Piero. It was also a 'Il Gol Alla Del Piero', and put up side-by-side on social media with the legendary Juve forward's famous strike against Steaua Bucharest, aside from the obvious advances in video camera quality, it was pretty hard to find a difference in the footage. Yildiz played into the expected comparisons too, sticking out his tongue in celebration in the same way that Del Piero did after pretty much all of his 290 goals for La Vecchia Signora. Comparisons between Juventus' new number ten and their greatest number ten don't begin and end with that wonder strike; which set Thiago Motta's side on their way to an impressive 3-1 win over PSV. From the very first day that he arrived at Juve from Bayern Munich aged 17, the Turkish youngster has been touted as the 'next Del Piero'. ............ Yildiz has thrived in this new role as the club's star man, playing like he's enjoying the burden of the billing as the 'next Del Piero'. Proof of that can be found in the fact that he's already breaking some of Del Piero's long-held records at the club - most recently becoming Juve's youngest ever Champions League starter and goalscorer in the win over PSV Eindhoven. ............ Socrates 8322 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133025 messaggi Inviato September 22 Kenan Yildiz is Juventus’ new No. 10, can he live up to his predecessors? Heavy is the head that wears the crown... Historically, the No. 10 in the world of football has been reserved for the greats. Lionel Messi, Diego Mardonna, Pele, and Michel Platini have all donned the number on the world stage, and are remembered as legends of the game. This number stands for many things, from playmaking, to leadership on and off the pitch, and creativity that will generate goals, opportunities, and positive influence on the team. This season, 19-year-old Kenan Yildiz was selected to have the number emblazoned upon the back of his black and white kits. Nicknamed by many as “starboy,” a pun on the Turkish translation of his last name that literally means “Star,” the player is a product of the Juventus Next Gen after he arrived from Bayern Munich two years earlier, who saw his first senior team appearance in 2023. Soon thereafter, he became the youngest international player to ever score a goal in the Serie A, at only 18 years of age. Since then, his rise has been meteoric. Fans of Juventus have seen him as a new and welcome addition to the squad, was called up to the Turkish national team for the 2024 Euros, and has generally proved to be a skilled technique player. ............ In terms of status as a legend on both the club and international stage, no Juventus player to wear the No. 10 comes even close to Alessandro Del Piero. Nicknamed “Pinturicchio” due to his similar style of play to Roberto Baggio, Del Piero is easily one of the greatest Italian football players to ever grace the field, if not the world. He began wearing a few different numbers during his career at Juventus, but the No. 10 in the 1995-96 season became permanent and lead to more than fifteen years wearing the number. This season would eventually lead to Juve’s second and most recent Champions League title. ............ Additional Juventus legends to wear the No. 10 include Roberto Baggio, Tevez and Platini, all of who dominated the pitch in their respective time. This leads to the question: Is Yildiz ready to don the No. 10 shirt and all the history with it? While he has been in superb form since his debut, there are some who may say that this move is premature. Overall, this choice from the club represents a more progressive and younger skewed vision for the club. It is important to note that Del Piero was only nineteen years of age in the 1993-94 season when he briefly donned the number, and twenty-one when it became permanent. He and Yildiz are similar in the sense that they were both young talents when they arrived at Juventus and were launched into the spotlight soon after. ............ To his benefit, Yildiz, in his first Champions League outing with Juventus, netted the first goal of the competition in spectacular, and in doing so, became the youngest player in Juventus history to score in the competition. For now, it looks like this choice to move him to the 10 spot was a good one, and time will tell if the successes continue. Socrates 8322 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133025 messaggi Inviato September 24 Juventus considering new playing position for Kenan Yildiz Juventus coach Thiago Motta is reportedly tempted to test his young star Kenan Yildiz in a different position. The 19-year-old originally rose onto the scene as a second striker, but has been mostly playing as a left winger this season, producing mixed results. ............ Yildiz could be tried as a false Number 9 at some stage. Dusan Vlahovic has been out of sorts as of late. He only managed to score two goals against Hellas Verona since the start of the season. Many supporters fear that the Serbian might not be the ideal centre-forward for Motta’s tactical system. Therefore, the coach could decide to test Yildiz in this role, and hope for results similar to the Joshua Zirkzee experiment from his Bologna days. ............ So it remains to be seen if Motta would be willing to drop Vlahovic – the league’s highest-paid athlete – to make way for this curious experiment. The young attacker has been compared to Alessandro Del Piero and has even been handed Juventus’ iconic number 10 shirt. ............ Del Piero believes the Turkish starlet has everything it takes to have a successful career in the future. He said: “He’s a guy with his head on his shoulders , he always approaches the game in the best way and in training he’s someone who gives his all , from what I’m told he’s very humble and aware that at his age he still has everything to prove and he wants to do it through work. Socrates 8322 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 133025 messaggi Inviato October 21 Should Juventus continue to play Yildiz on the left despite his struggles? Kenan Yildiz’s recent dip in form has raised concerns at Juventus, especially after a strong start to the season where he thrived in the number ten role behind Dusan Vlahovic. Initially, Yildiz displayed great promise, contributing creatively and playing with confidence. However, the arrival of Teun Koopmeiners, who has taken over the central attacking midfield position, has pushed Yildiz out to the left wing, where his performances have been less impactful. Though he has experience playing on the left for the Turkish national team and has scored notable goals for Juve, such as against PSV in the Champions League, Yildiz seems to be struggling to adapt fully to the role at the club level. His positioning and decision-making on the wing have been inconsistent, affecting his ability to influence games as effectively as he did earlier in the season. ............ The situation is complicated by the presence of other players, such as Samuel Mbangula, who appears to have made a greater impact in the same position. Mbangula’s performances could potentially push Yildiz further down the pecking order if the latter does not quickly adjust. Thiago Motta, known for his willingness to give young players opportunities, still has faith in Yildiz’s abilities. ............ For Yildiz, this is a critical period to prove that he can contribute from various positions, which will be essential for his development and continued inclusion in Juventus’ plans. Otherwise, he may face the possibility of losing his spot to teammates who are more consistent in their performances. The number 10 has a rich history at the Allianz Stadium, being worn by legendary players such as Alessandro Del Piero and Paulo Dybala, who both left a lasting legacy during their time with the Bianconeri. This decision to award Yildiz the number comes in the wake of Paul Pogba’s ban, marking a significant step in the young player’s career. ............ Acknowledging the weight of the number 10 shirt, Yildiz spoke candidly about what it means to wear it. He stated: “The number 10 of Juventus? You have two sides of the coin to have a number like that. It’s a really, really heavy number. You have the confidence side, the pride side, but then you also have the side where you have to show something for the people who gave you that honour. Montella was particularly enthusiastic about Kenan Yildiz’s performance during the match: “I’m very happy for him. This satisfaction comes at the right moment. At just 19 years old, he has become the youngest to score a brace in an Inter-Juventus clash. He gave an important response in terms of scoring and playing with his teammates. In Turkey, there is a lot of talk about him, and he deserves it.” Despite starting on the bench, Yildiz made a significant impact when he entered the game. Montella said, “I had no doubts because he is a mature and ‘mentalized’ boy. He never gets his attitude wrong.” However, he advised Yildiz on areas for improvement: “He needs to learn to attack the goal and be more optimistic in the final 20 meters. So far, he has scored all extraordinary goals; he must also learn to score dirty goals by believing more in rebounds and loose balls.” ............ .
