Official Juventus team to face Roma

17-Roma.jpg

Juventus welcome Roma to the Allianz Stadium this evening and this is the team that Max Allegri has selected to face Jose Mourinho’s men.

This is going to be a very difficult match for Juve to navigate, however, they do have home advantage, they are 12 points clear of Roma in the standings and a win will put them just two points behind league leaders Inter Milan. ...........

We can expect a pragmatic match considering the two managers involved but that does not mean it will not be an entertaining affair, especially when both teams, for their own reasons, will be desperate to pick up all three points. ...........

Juventus vs. Roma match preview

The final game of 2023 sees Juventus host Roma in a meeting of two managers who love a low-scoring battle.

Juventus vs Roma Prediction and Betting Tips

Once Juventus got through the hosting the reigning Serie A champions at the Allianz Stadium earlier this month, the schedule finally gave the Bianconeri a bit of a breather. The trend of big games coming every of week let up, with opponents in the bottom half of the table set to be next up on the schedule between the middle of December and the beginning of February.

Except for one game.

That one game was the man that everybody loves to hate, Jose Mourinho, and Roma making their way to Turin in the final fixture of the 2023 calendar year. ...........

And there’s this little note, too: Juventus can, with a win on Saturday night, can pull closer to Inter after their 1-1 draw with Genoa — yes, that same team that Juve weren’t able to beat just a couple of weeks ago — on Friday night at the Marassi. (Thanks to Radu Dragusin for that standout performance, by the way. It’s really appreciated.)

The difference between first and second is currently at five points. With a Juve win, it’s down to just two points and a rather favorable strength of schedule awaiting the Bianconeri in the new year if they can take advantage of Inter’s first draw against domestic opposition in a month. ...........

Saturday night has a good chance to not exactly be the pinnacle of modern football knowing that i’s two guys who love to grind out wins who are calling the shots in the form of Allegri and Mourinho. But it’s also the task of Juventus’ defense to try and slow down Lukaku, who has scored in each of his last three games. (And if Dybala plays ... that’s another piece to add to the puzzle to try and stop.) Despite the fact that Roma’s form has been absolutely all over the place so far this season, they’re still a dangerous team with who they have leading the line for them.

The chance to end 2023 with a big win and getting back within serious striking distance of Inter is very much out there for the taking. Just what’s left to see is if Allegri’s squad can grind out one more victory before the January slate of games — and the beginning of a potential Coppa Italia run! — arrives come the beginning of the new work week. ...........

TEAM NEWS

  • Andrea Cambiaso is suspended for Roma’s visit to Turin due to yellow card accumulation.
  • The other two players who were also feared to potentially have some sort of injury coming out of the Frosinone win, Manuel Locatelli and Weston McKennie, are all good to go.
  • Federico Chiesa, who stayed back in Turin last weekend, has recovered from the minor knee injury he was dealing with and is back in the squad. Whether or not he is deemed good to go when it comes to the starting lineup remains to be seen.
  • Allegri said that he is still trying to decide who starts between Chiesa and Kenan Yildiz.
  • Allegri also said that he has yet to decide between starting McKennie or Timothy Weah out wide despite there being a lack of options in the center of the midfield.
  • Three different Juventus players are one yellow card away from having to serve a one-game suspension: Locatelli, Danilo and Federico Gatti. ...........

Juventus sees off AS Roma to close the gap on Inter Milan

rabiot-vlahovic-roma.jpg

In a crucial Serie A showdown, Juventus emerged victorious with a hard-fought 1-0 win against AS Roma at the Allianz Stadium. The hero of the day was Adrien Rabiot, whose decisive strike propelled the Bianconeri to secure three valuable points. The victory became even more significant as Juventus seized the opportunity to close the gap on Inter Milan, who had dropped points in their match against Genoa.

The much-anticipated clash unfolded as a tactical battle, with both teams vying for supremacy. Paulo Dybala’s return to his former stomping ground and Romelu Lukaku’s chance to prove a point added an extra layer of intensity to the contest. The first half saw both clubs cancelling each other out, providing few scoring opportunities for the eager fans.

As expected from managers of the calibre of Jose Mourinho and Max Allegri, the breakthrough came just two minutes into the second half. Rabiot found the back of the net from the near post, breaking the deadlock and giving Juventus the crucial lead. ...........

Despite Roma’s persistent efforts, they couldn’t breach Juventus’s defence. Max Allegri’s men held their ground, securing a clean sheet and a vital 1-0 victory. The win not only showcased Juventus’s defensive prowess but also their ability to capitalise on critical moments in the match.

Juventus Player Ratings vs Roma: Rabiot’s Strike Sets Title Race Ablaze

Juventus beat Roma, close on Serie A leaders Inter | The Canberra Times | Canberra, ACT

Juventus (3-5-2)

Wojciech Szczesny – 6.5

 ...........

Federico Gatti – 6.5

A calm and composed display at the back from the former Frosinone man who supported Bremer in his duel against Romelu Lukaku.

Gleison Bremer – 7

The Brazilian didn’t put a foot wrong throughout the match. He’s one of the few men who have the strength to match Lukaku in a physical duel. He Beat the Belgian for almost every ball and managed to nullify his threat.

Danilo – 7

The Juventus captain had a couple of scares, including a weak clearance that almost gifted Dybala a goal, but they aren’t enough to blemish what was a superb display at the back. Made a string of timely interceptions and was simply brilliant in duels.

Timothy Weah – 6

 ...........

Weston McKennie – 6.5

The Texan will be kicking himself for squandering a late chance in front of goal. Nevertheless, it was another hard-fought outing from the midfielder who ran his socks off for the entire match and was hardly able to stand in the end.

Manuel Locatelli – 7

 ...........

Adrien Rabiot – 7.5

The Frenchman didn’t only help Juventus win the battle in the middle of the park, but also scored the winning goal with a clinical touch. Rui Patricio was rushing in his direction, but Rabiot was clever enough to place the ball at the near corner.

Filip Kostic – 6.5

 ...........

Kenan Yildiz – 6.5

While he didn’t score on his second start for Juventus, it was yet another impressive display from the Turkish teenager. Kept his composure against the naughty Gianluca Mancini who kept fouling him for as long as he lasted on the pitch. Combined well with his teammates and tried his luck with a decent shot that whistled past the post.

Dusan Vlahovic – 6.5

The former Fiorentina bomber didn’t score this time – albeit he came close – but he certainly proved his worth to the cause by providing the assist for Rabiot’s winner with a deft backheel. Gave Diego Llorente some nightmares while trying to grab a hold of him.

Substitutes

Federico Chiesa – 6.5

An exciting cameo from the returning Juventus forward who teed up McKennie with a fabulous ball. He also scored but it was disallowed for a clear offside position.

Arkadiusz Milik – N/A

Samuel Iling-Junior – N/A

Daniele Rugani – N/A

Juventus 1 - Roma 0: Initial reaction and random observations

One last corto muso special in 2023 for everybody to enjoy.

VIDEO. Juventus verslaat AS Roma met kleinste verschil, Romelu Lukaku wordt uitgefloten door thuispubliek | Het Nieuwsblad Mobile

On this night, it was the team that is, once again, putting league leaders Inter under some serious heat. Juventus were able to grind out another 1-0 win much to the delight of their manager, making Rabiot’s goal stand tall and moving within two points of Inter at the top of the Serie A table following their draw at Genoa 24 hours earlier. The goal was, in a way, a flip of the script from the last couple of weeks when Juve allowed goals right at the start of the second half and either couldn’t recover or needed some magic to make things happen. Instead of allowing it, Juve got the early second-half goal and then Roma couldn’t make much of anything really happen to tie things up.

The end result was not just a win over a rival and not just finally taking advantage of a rare slip up from Inter, but it also means that Juve head into the new year looking at these kinds of situations in the Serie A table:

  • Juve are now seven points clear of Milan in third.
  • Juve are now 10 points clear of Fiorentina in fourth.
  • For added measure, they’re now 12 points clear of Bologna in fifth place.

Sure, the Scudetto hype will only intensify with this win over Roma, but considering the fact that the main goal coming into the season — and still very much is from Allegri’s point of view — was to finish in the top four, Juve’s sitting damn pretty heading into 2024. ...........

The shot chart may say that Juventus had a slim 13-11 advantage, but when it came to the quality of those chances, there’s no denying that it was Allegri’s squad that had the better of them. And even though Rabiot was the only one who actually converted, there was a good amount of the time when Roma were simply reverting to hoofing in crosses toward Romelu Lukaku or to somebody on the back post (in theory) and hoping for something to happen.

And when Lukaku touches the ball all of 26 times and has an xG of 0.01 (!!!) because he’s the latest striker to be locked in Bremer’s Brazilian pocket or Paulo Dybala really can’t do much of anything because the defense is playing well, that’s how you get it done.

I get that corto muso is not to everybody’s liking. I really do. But on this night and in a battle between managers that love to play this way rather than a more progressive and up-tempo way, the first team to score was the only one to do so. It seemed like it was written that way hours before kickoff even arrived, and that’s how it ended up going. Funny how that works out sometimes.

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Gonna be thinking about that flick from Dusan Vlahovic on Rabiot’s goal the rest of the weekend. It was a beautiful thing. ...........
  • Very glad Paulo Dybala didn’t open the scoring in the kind of fashion with that effort with the outside of his left foot that would have had him leading pretty much every Serie A highlight package for the next week.
  • Also, I have no idea what Danilo was doing on that attempted clearance. Heading it straight to a Roma player in that kind of fashion — in the penalty area no less! — seemed like a recipe for disaster. Thankfully Dybala’s shot was just a foot or two wide of goal.
  • Also, I still miss you very much, Paulo. Seeing you in Roma colors, even a year and a half later, is still weird to these eyes. ...........
  • Gianluca Mancini is always innocent. At least in his mind he is.
  • It’s also surprising that Mancini wasn’t the first player to be shown a yellow card. It was our old friend Leandro Paredes! And in the 68th minute, too — which, considering some of the fouls in this one, is a bit of a surprise.
  • Roma’s first shot on target, through Dybala, came in the 71st minute. It was an easy save in the end for Wojciech Szczesny despite the fact that it came about through another questionable clearance attempt from Danilo.
  • It wasn’t a goal, but at least it gave us a really cool picture:

Juventus v AS Roma - Serie A TIM

  • Overall, though, this was a really good outing from Vlahovic. He probably would have had a goal in the first half if not for a great block from (ugh) Mancini and was really working his ass off to be involved in the build-up and other aspects. Essentially, you want to see a complete, all-around performance from Vlahovic even when he doesn’t score, this is the one to look at. He was playing with confidence and it really did show. More of this, please.
  • We’re now going on straight Saturdays in which Weston McKennie has been denied his first goal of the season. It was the woodwork last weekend against Frosinone, then it was a big kick save from Rui Patricio against Roma. Just so, so close.
  • I mean, if there’s anybody who deserves a goal for the way they’ve played this season, it’s McKennie. With all of the goal scorers that Juve have had this season — it’s 12 of ‘em! — it might be a bit of a surprise that McKennie isn’t one of them. ...........
  • An observation I’m stealing straight from Chuks: Very nice of Dean Huijsen to go over and shake Mourinho’s hand right after the final whistle sounded like he is just another one of Juventus’ assistant coaches. They grow them polite in the Netherlands. Good work, Dean. ...........
  • He didn’t have a goal to his name, but this was another positive step for Kenan Yildiz. Hopefully with Federico Chiesa’s knee being what it is, Allegri will slow play it like he has in the past and the result with be Yildiz getting more playing time these next few weeks. Throw in a Coppa Italia matchup in a few days and the chances will be there for him to make a big impact as long as Allegri does his part. ...........
  • In conclusion, winning the final game of 2023 was cool. Getting the bonus of the camera cutting to a grumpy Jose Mourinho on the sidelines through the second half made it even better. Happy new year to everybody just for those pictures.

Rabiot admits Juventus is eyeing the Scudetto after defeating Roma

Serie A roundup: Juventus sink Roma through Rabiot strike to close gap at top | Serie A | The Guardian

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot has admitted that they are thinking of winning the Scudetto title this season after defeating AS Roma in Serie A tonight.

Juve has been the closest challenger to Inter Milan in the race for the league title this season. ...........

The Romans have been performing well this season and are also challenging for a top-four spot, so we expected the game to be a tough fixture.

The Bianconeri had difficulties but won thanks to a solitary goal from Rabiot, and the midfielder admits afterwards that they want to win the league.

He said:

“We already believed in it, even more so tonight and in the coming months, it’s a goal for me and for everyone. We did very well, but there’s still a long way to go.” ...........

Mourinho admits Roma were impotent against Juventus: “Impossible against the Turin wall”

Serie A 2023-24: Juventus 1-0 AS Roma - Adrien Rabiot Nets Juve Winner In Close Tie

Roma coach Jose Mourinho felt his side could do little after conceding a goal against Juventus who boast an impregnable defense.

The Bianconeri took the lead early in the second half when Dusan Vlahovic freed up Adrien Rabiot with a backheel assist. The French kept his composure to beat Rui Patricio. ...........

For his part, Mourinho was relatively quiet on the touchline, avoiding some of his usual theatrics. ...........

So after the match, the Special One didn’t try to come up with alibis to justify the result. Instead, he simply admitted that Roma were helpless against the Juventus defensive wall.

“In the second half, it was impossible to find spaces against the Turin wall,” said Mourinho in his post-match press conference.

“Even the Juventus stadium is educated on this matter. They know that the team plays to win, even when sitting deep. ...........

Allegri: Juve win pushes Roma and chasing pack further back

Coach’s comments after Juve earn a well-deserved win over Mourinho’s bunch

Juventus vs AS Roma - Massimiliano allegri - Getty Images

Speaking after the game, Allegri paid tribute to his opposing number.

“It was a good game, because playing against Roma is never easy, especially when Jose Mourinho is on the opposition bench.

“We ran risks in the first half with a few Paulo Dybala balls that went into the box, but remained solid. We scored after the restart and could’ve had a second goal.

“It was important to win, especially as we continue to break away from the teams behind us. ...........

The Bianconeri have narrowed the gap with leaders Inter Milan back down to two points.

“At this moment, I think we are in good shape physically, the last three days of training were good too and we had some impressive passing moves today. We gave the ball away a bit too often and need to work on that, but above all on the diagonal passes and how to play out from the back.

“The best thing is that after conceding straight after taking the lead, see against Frosinone and Genoa, the team has returned to being afraid of conceding a goal. When you are afraid of conceding a goal, you defend with greater concentration.” ...........

“Juve back in the Champions League. In fact, this was a very important result, because we pushed Roma and the others in the chasing pack further behind us, so we have consolidated that advantage and are closer to mathematically securing Champions League qualification.”

Pundit insists Juventus deserves more credit after beating Roma

Serie A | Juventus 1-0 Roma: Rabiot breaks Mourinho - Football Italia

Juventus has hardly been given credit for the amazing season they are having, with most people fixated on their defensive style of play. ...........

The men in black and white have continued to show that they are one of the top clubs in the country regardless of the situation in which they find themselves.

Juve could win the league, and on current form, they will certainly finish inside the Serie A top four.

But they do not get enough credit for the performances that they deliver, and pundit Alessandro Santarelli says they are performing miracles. ...........

“It’s a beautiful victory, which I dedicate to many people who always speak badly of Juventus, and let me say that this team should only be applauded for what it is doing. At the moment it is a miracle what these guys are doing. There is no best on the pitch, it is a team victory, of Juventus as a group, with a signature, that of Massimiliano Allegri”. ...........

Capello expects Juventus to fight for the Scudetto until the end

Perché Juventus-Inter è chiamato Derby d'Italia? | Goal.com Italia

Juventus demonstrated their determination to contend for the league title by defeating AS Roma in Serie A yesterday. The Bianconeri are currently challenging Inter Milan for the top spot, surprising many as few had expected them to be in contention at this stage of the season. ...........

Under the guidance of Max Allegri, Juventus is gradually returning to their best form, and their recent performances have been impressive. Following their victory over AS Roma, Fabio Capello has expressed confidence that Juventus will remain in the title race until the end. ...........

“The victory against Roma is important, it shortens the distance at the top, but I remain with my opinion: regardless of the ranking, I still don’t see a real head-to-head.

“For me, Inter are still racing on themselves: if they play as they know how, Inzaghi ‘s team is the favourite, simply because they are stronger. Of course, Allegri still talks about the Champions League objective, but he believes in the Scudetto and he is right to believe in it: Juve’s DNA, which I know well, says so, his team will fight until the end. And he can only get better”. ...........

Barzagli insists Juventus sent an important signal to Inter Milan

barzagli.jpg

Andrea Barzagli believes that Juventus sent a strong message to Inter Milan with their victory against AS Roma in Serie A at the weekend.

Despite not beginning the season as strongly equipped as Inter, Juventus has emerged as a formidable challenger for the league title, showcasing their status as one of the top clubs in Europe this season. ...........

Understanding the importance of defeating Roma to stay close to the top of the standings, Juventus achieved the desired result. Barzagli views this victory as more than just three points—a statement that resonates with Inter Milan about Juventus’s serious contention for the league title. ...........

“The Bianconeri’s journey is excellent, this year shows exponential growth, the environment has been brought back together, at the Stadium there is energy, the fans are behind this team. Juventus has grown, you can see it in the embrace at the end of the match, giving a very important signal to Inter.” ...........

Allegri could grant Juventus teenager his senior debut against Salernitana

mlz75qm5lzvnlpasqyzf.jpg

Juventus coach Max Allegri could unleash Joseph Nonge in the upcoming battles against Salernitana. ...........

The Belgian midfielder has also been receiving call-ups for the senior squad’s matches in recent months. However, he has yet to make his debut.

But this could change rather quickly according to journalist Massimo Pavan.

The source claims that the 18-year-old could take the field this week in one of the two encounters against Salernitana.

The Bianconeri will host the Southerners on Thursday in the Coppa Italia Round of 16.

They will then return the visit straight away for a Serie A fixture on Sunday at the Arecchi Stadium in Salerno.

Pavan believes Allegri could take the opportunity to launch Nonge while rotating his ranks.

The Belgian started his career at Anderlecht before joining Juventus in the summer of 2021. His first ordeal was to prove himself with the U17 squad. ...........

Juventus 6 - Salernitana 1: Initial reaction and random observations

No, you read that headline right. That actually was the final score.

Juventus FC v US Salernitana - Coppa Italia

It went just as Max Allegri drew it up Thursday night.

... OK, so maybe that’s not how Max Allegri drew it up, but when you find yourself down 1-0 after all of 60 seconds in the kind of stunning fashion that Juventus did against Salernitana, there’s really only one option you have from the second minute on: bounce back.

Oh boy, did Juve bounce back.

In one of the more lopsided final scores we’ve seen from Juventus dating back to Allegri’s first stint as manager in Turin, the Bianconeri got themselves back up off the mat after Federico Gatti’s massive error on one of the first passes of the night and recorded a dominant 6-1 win over Salernitana to advance to the Coppa Italia quarterfinals. It was, frankly, something we’ve seen few times these last few years — you know, the kind of refreshing performance in which grinding out a result and digging deep to defending a one-goal lead wasn’t necessary for the entirety of the second half.

And those last two goals from Kenan Yildiz and Timothy Weah?

Ahhhhhh, the cherry on top of a fun game to watch. ...........

But when you look at it, the statistics from this one are just as one-sided as the final score:

  • Shots: Juventus 22, Salernitana 2
  • Shots on goal: Juventus 12, Salernitana 2
  • Shots inside the box: Juventus 14, Salernitana 1
  • Possession: Juventus 57%, Salernitana 43%

That, my friends, is simple domination. It’s something we rarely see from Juventus. It’s the combination of Juve playing damn well (after the first minute) and Salernitana being a total mess of a team. It was the perfect storm once the opening-minute mistake took place, and it involved Salernitana recording all of one shot after they scored. We don’t see Juve have these kinds of offensive nights much during Allegri 2.0, so it makes it even that much more of a good time when you consider just a few days ago they were beating Roma by, you guessed it, just a single goal. ...........

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Kenan Yildiz.
  • What? You want me to say more?
  • OK, here’s more: Kenan Yildiz is good and he is forcing the issue when it comes to play time. Sure, he came on when the game was pretty much in hand and the opponent with the worst defense in the league was already defeated, but this dude just wants to take defender’s souls — and he’s doing it.
  • Speaking of somebody who has gotten a chance to play more and more in the last month or two and absolutely ran with it? That would be Andrea Cambiaso, who is now getting into “he’s gotta start no matter what” territory. It wasn’t just the goal and assist in this game, but it’s the growing body of work and what he brings to either wing he’s playing on. Cambiaso showed potential during his loan spell at Bologna last season. Now we’re seeing it in Turin. ...........
  • That was Weah’s first goal in a Juventus shirt, by the way. That’s gotta be one of the best first goals with Juventus that we’ve seen in recent years, right? It has to be.
  • Federico Chiesa was an absolute madman against Salernitana. Throw out all the caveats that you want about it being Salernitana, but that was the kind of Chiesa game that he really did need. He did just about everything right outside of scoring a goal. Dude had SIX key passes and 52 touches despite playing just 65 minutes. That’s impressive as hell.
  • Manuel Locatelli touched the ball 102 times. ONE-HUNDRED AND TWO TIMES!
  • Arek Milik was another one of those guys like Chiesa who didn’t score but had a great game. With Chiesa doing his usual drifting out wide thing, Milik really held down the center of the attacking line well. Just an overall really good performance.
  • This was the chance for Samuel Iling-Junior to impress and he didn’t exactly do that.
  • Oh, and we get a second straight Thursday night with the Coppa Italia. Juventus hosts Frosinone and all of our friends there in the Coppa quarterfinals next week. Should be a good one.
  • In conclusion, Juventus scored six goals. In one game. That was fun. Even scoring half that amount in a couple of days should result in even more fun. Let’s do it!

Capello discusses how Juventus can overtake Inter Milan in the title race

Voorspelling Juventus Inter Milan Wedtip - Serie A 26-11-2023

Juventus has managed to stay in close pursuit of Inter Milan in the Serie A title race, keeping the Nerazzurri under pressure. Despite Inter’s status as the best team on paper and their aspirations to dominate the league this season, Juventus has refused to allow them to run away with the title. ...........

Although Juventus may not have started the season as favorites for the title, their superb form has allowed them to challenge for the top spot. According to Fabio Capello, this sustained performance by Max Allegri’s team could put pressure on Inter and create an opportunity for Juventus to compete for and potentially win the Serie A title.

“Inter and Juve are both equipped to win the title. The Nerazzurri could lose some of the grit and determination they have shown so far due to all the praise they give them, including me. In these cases, it may happen that you fall asleep. However, it is unlikely to happen to Juve, Allegri is always on the ball. I thought they could count on the market, but instead, they fish internally”...........

Salernitana vs Juventus: Preview and Prediction

Salernitana vs Juventus Prediction and Betting Tips

Juventus will resume Serie A action as they meet Salernitana again with the aim of repeating their smashing performance.

Salernitana will rue their luck about the fixtures, as they meet Juventus again only in the space of four days. That was their Coppa Italia clash, where Filippo Inzaghi may have had the odd hope to see his team fight it out away from the pressure of the league and the relegation zone.

Instead, what Salernitana experienced was an absolute thrashing at the hands of Juventus, with a 6-1 scoreline. Now, Inzaghi must ensure there is no repeat of that performance or the scoreline as he looks for immediate revenge against the Bianconeri.

However, the most crucial task for the manager would be to find a way to get some wins under their bag. Salernitana are bottom of the Serie A standings. Still, the minute differences in points mean that if their other relegation rivals lose and somehow Inzaghi’s men manage to take three points, then they will climb out of the bottom three.

However, Juventus will want to continue what they started in midweek, as Massimiliano Allegri would have been delighted at the sight of his player scoring so many goals. The fact that after such a smashing performance, the Bianconeri get to play the same team again will undoubtedly boost the players and their confidence. ...........

In fact, Allegri will want to crank up the pressure now and win their following Serie A clashes before they meet Inter Milan in Turin on February 5 in what could decide who would have the upper hand in the title race. Until then, Juventus will aim to win all their games, especially the upcoming one against Salernitana.

Team News & Tactics

Salernitana  ...........

Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1): Costil; Daniliuc, Gyomber, Fazio, Bradaric; Maggiore, Legowski; Candreva, Martegani, Tchaouna; Ikwuemesi

aTTrx983wI4ZwLTCY7Rc.png

Juventus

Surprisingly, Massimiliano Allegri went with a strong lineup in the Coppa Italia tie against Salernitana and may not want to change too much. Alternatively, considering how easy it proved for the Bianconeri to breach their defences time and again, their manager might even consider rotation.

Juventus will miss Manuel Locatelli, with the midfielder set to serve a suspension. The Italian international’s absence could see Allegri bring Hans Nicolussi Caviglia into the setup.

In terms of absentees, Moise Kean, Mattia De Sciglio, and Alex Sandro will miss this encounter and more in the coming period. Meanwhile, Dutch defender Dean Huijsen seems poised to join Roma on loan. So, he will play no part in Allegri’s thinking ahead of the Salernitana game.

Andrea Cambiaso and Filip Kostic should get the nod to start in the wing-back roles. Allegri will likely keep the partnership between Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa to spearhead the attack.

Probable Lineup (3-5-2): Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Cambiaso, McKennie, Nicolussi Caviglia, Rabiot, Kostic; Chiesa, Vlahovic

MpUOCkHd0DxlDgUfgSsR.png

Key Stats

  • Juventus have won nine of their last 11 matches in Serie A.
  • Juventus have won with a one-goal margin in eight of their last ten matches in Serie A.
  • Juventus have scored at least two goals in their last five matches against Salernitana in all competitions.
  • Salernitana have not won consecutive Serie A games since October 2022.
  • Salernitana have kept only one clean sheet this season.

Player to Watch

Dusan Vlahovic

The Serbian striker is yet to hit top form in another mixed start to a Serie A season. ...........

Vlahovic must focus on his efforts to score goals and nothing else. His other aspects are strong enough. But for now, Juventus need all their attackers firing on all cylinders, particularly the Serbian. In games like this one against Salernitana, he might have the best chance to boost his confidence and get some strikes on board to kick-start a decent run.

Prediction

Salernitana 1-4 Juventus

Considering what Juventus did to Salernitana in the 6-1 mauling during their Coppa Italia tie, many will come expecting a similar performance. The hosts will be short of confidence in this upcoming clash. But they might make a more significant effort to keep the Bianconeri from scoring too many strikes.

Whether they will replicate the 6-1 scoreline or even better remains the question. But Juventus will get into the grove to prove another point. Hence, it is easy to assume the Turin giants will keep the scorecard ticking. But again, they might concede an odd goal at some stage in the game.

Late Vlahovic strike earns Juventus all the points against stubborn Salernitana

Italian Football TV on X: "Dušan Vlahović ONLY scores the important goals 🇷🇸 His 7 goals in Serie A have earned Juventus an extra 8 points in the table: • 2 points

Just a few days after their impressive 6-1 victory in the Coppa Italia, Juventus faced Salernitana again, this time in Serie A, looking to secure another win.

Salernitana seemed to have learned from their recent defeat and displayed a more resilient performance in the early stages of the game, determined to prove that they were not as vulnerable as they appeared days ago.

The home side started strongly, maintaining good form throughout the first half. However, Salernitana, struggling in the relegation zone, faced a formidable Juventus side keen on asserting their championship aspirations.

To the surprise of many, the home team took the lead in the 39th minute with an impressive strike from Giulio Maggiore.

Heading into halftime, Juventus recognised the need to address the scoreline. Manager Max Allegri made two crucial changes at the interval, introducing Samuel Iling-Junior and Daniele Rugani.

The former Chelsea prospect, Iling-Junior, made an immediate impact, levelling the score 20 minutes into the second half, taking advantage of Salernitana being reduced to ten men after their goalscorer was sent off. ...........

In the first minute of added time, Dusan Vlahovic secured the winning goal for Juventus, further solidifying their pursuit of the Serie A championship.

Overall, this was a satisfying, if not a convincing win.

“We never give up” Vlahovic reacts to Juventus win against Salernitana

Juve stays in Inter Milan's slipstream: Vlahovic in extra time knocks out Salernitana in 10 - Sportal.eu

Juventus secured a victory against Salernitana this evening, courtesy of a late goal from Dusan Vlahovic.

Despite being the dominant side, the Bianconeri faced an early setback as Salernitana took the lead, causing frustration for Juventus before they managed to equalise.

The team exerted significant effort to secure the winning goal, and it finally arrived late in the game, thanks to Vlahovic’s crucial contribution. ...........

Speaking after the match, Vlahovic emphasised the team’s commitment to playing until the final minute and ensuring they come out victorious:

“We never give up, we will give everything until the end. Then we’ll see how it goes. Scudetto? There are still 18 games to play, it’s very long. Our goal is to get into the Champions League. Match by match, then we’ll see.” ...........

Juventus 2 - Salernitana 1: Initial reaction and random observations

Just when it looked like Juve might drop points against the team at the bottom of the Serie A table, it was Dusan Vlahovic to the rescue in stoppage time.

FBL-ITA-SERIEA-SALERNITANA-JUVENTUS

It didn’t take long to figure out Sunday evening that this was going to be the kind of game in which Juventus had to try an answer against a Salernitana side that was going to sit deep in defense. That became even more of the case early in the second half when Giulio Maggiore, the same dude who was responsible for handing his team a 1-0 lead, was sent off after being shown a second yellow.

That raised the question: Could Juventus take advantage of the man advantage and suddenly unlock a Salernitana defense that is statistically the worst in Serie A?

The answer: They did. Just barely, but they did.

For the second time in four days, Juventus recorded a come-from-behind victory over Salernitana. The one on Sunday was very much the polar opposite of the one we saw three days earlier in the Coppa Italia Round of 16, with a second-half comeback needed to dig out of a 1-0 hole and secure three points in Salerno. The comeback began through second-half substitute Samuel Iling-Junior tying things up with his first goal of the season. It was complete when Dusan Vlahovic, in the first minute of stoppage time, scored his second game-winning goal in the span of three weeks with a towering and thunderous header to give the 2-1 win over 10-man Salernitana to help Juventus keep pace with league leaders Inter Milan. ...........

As Max Allegri warned his team of and mentioned during his pre-match press conference, this was not the same kind of game that we saw three days earlier in the Coppa Italia. This was a Salernitana side that had some of their best players back in the lineup after the midweek squad rotation. And, as we’ve seen plenty of times before, a Salernitana team that was happy to sit back and do what gives Juve a lot of problems — packing it in and forcing Allegri’s squad to break you down rather than hit you on the counter. ...........

Even with the man advantage it wasn’t looking all that encouraging. Juventus recorded 18 shots against Salernitana on Sunday, but only three of them were actually put on target. The good thing about that? Two of them proved to be the second-half goals that won it for Juve, who are now back to just two points behind winter champions Inter as that Derby d’Italia at the start of February looms ever so massive in a few weeks.

The last shot on goal, though, that was the most important of them all. Vlahovic’s header was just as good as the ball that Danilo sent into him. And it was the latest edition of Fine alla Fine that this team has displayed this season even when the overall product was not at the best level. ...........

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Here is a picture of Max Allegri in a beanie. I think it looks cool.

FBL-ITA-SERIEA-SALERNITANA-JUVENTUS

  • Dusan Vlahovic is an intense fella when he’s on the field. Those celebrations both after the goal and after the final whistle only proved that. My goodness does he wear his heart on his sleeve when he’s out there. Good to see that he was rewarded again in this game for his recent uptick in form.
  • Juventus’ bench had seven players available. Two were keepers. That’s not exactly plentiful options for Max Allegri to work with come the second half. At least no injuries happened.
  • And as it turned out, Max ended up using every single one of those five outfield players off the bench. Those subs, especially the one we’re about to talk about, made sense. (Although, not sure about the Yildiz-for-Miretti swap for the simple reason of Kenan’s ability to make something out of nothing, but it all worked out in the end.) ...........
  • Danilo’s cross on Vlahovic’s game-winning goal — bene, molto bene. That was a throwback to his fullback days. Just an assist that was put right on the money for its intended target.
  • Something that was not so great? Juventus’ defending on the counterattack on Salernitana’s goal. It doesn’t take a tactical mastermind to see that leaving somebody wide open at the top of the box can end up in a bad way — and that’s exactly what happened.
  • Juventus’ amount of possession through the first 10 minutes: 69%. Heh. Nice. ...........
  • Another lineup question to ponder: Is Daniele Rugani better for this team right now than Federico Gatti? Consider the fact that it would push Danilo over to a more natural right sdie of the defense and it’s an interesting thing to ponder, folks.
  • Who led Juve in touches? Danilo.
  • Who led Juve in key passes? Danilo.
  • Who had the best pass success rate of any Juve starter? Yeah, it was Danilo. ...........
  • Quite the big day for the Juventus family: Men win late, Women win the Supercoppa late, Next Gen hang on late to beat our old “friend” Zdenek Zeman and Pescara. Not bad. Not bad at all, fam.

Last-gasp goal pushes Juventus past Salernitana

It didn’t look much like what happened midweek, but Juve were able to escape Salerno with three points.

US Salernitana v Juventus - Serie A TIM

Three days after obliterating Salernitana in their Coppa Italia meeting, Juventus headed south for an instant rematch in Salerno.

Things did not go as well.

Just like Thursday, last-place Salernitana actually took the lead. This time it came at the end of the first half, after Juve dropped their guard on a quick counterattack. But whereas in midweek Juventus responded by completely overwhelming the worst team in Serie A so far this season, Sunday’s Juve found itself largely unable to make much happen in front of goal. Even when Salernitana went a man down when their own goalscorer saw a second yellow card, Juve weren’t so much as sniffing a shot on target.

To their credit, Juve did manage to dig out two goals — one in the 65th minute and then a winner off a towering header by Dusan Vlahovic just as stoppage time began — to pull out a 2-1 victory. But to come that close to a game that would slide into the Monza and Maccabi Haifa level of unacceptable is of serious concern, as is Juve’s continued inability to get themselves past a set defense. As the first half of the season closes, Juve in a great position in the standings, but there are still problems that this club needs to fix. ...........

It was Maggiore that woke the game up in the 39th minute. The move started when Gyömbér hit a long ball over the top for Sambia, who pulled it back to Tchaouna at the top of the box. Bradaric was waiting nearby, and Tchaouna’s layoff might’ve been for him, but it got past him and perfectly into the path of Maggiore, who had tons of space in the area. He controlled it with his first touch and then fired a bolt to the opposite post with his second, leaving Szczesny no chance.

Through the first half, Juve had only generated five shots, none of which were on target. Allegri’s first attempt to change that came right out of the break, sending Samuel Iling-Junior to replace an ineffective Kostic. Four minutes into the second half, Juve really should’ve been level when Yildiz sent Rabiot down the left. The Frenchman’s cross was perfect but McKennie, who had made a great run through the box, only managed to glance the ball wide with the far post gaping.

Two minutes later. Juve really ought to have been given a penalty when Gyömbér planted his shoulder into Vlahovic’s back, preventing him from jumping for a cross. There wasn’t even a VAR review, which wasn’t a good look for a refereeing system that has had some serious issues this weekend.

Two minutes later, though, referee Marco Guida did do his job, showing Maggiore a second yellow card when he took out Rabiot as he charged toward the box. That left 37 minutes for Juve to turn the game around against 10 men. ...........

It’s appropriate that Juventus got back into the match on a play that very nearly went down as an enormous mistake. Taking a free kick quickly, they worked the ball into the box on the right hand side, with Milik flicking it on for Weah toward the byline. His low cross went into a good position, but Vlahovic completely scuffed it. Luckily, said scuff went right to Iling-Junior, who took a touch to settle before smashing it into the roof of the net from 6 yards out.

Juve had 25 minutes to reel in all three points, but they looked like they breathed a little bit too hard a sigh of relief after equalizing. ...........

Juve managed to direct the flow of the game back toward the Salernitana goal for the most part after that, but the closest they came to scoring was an attempt by Iling-Junior to bend for the far post, but hit way too far wide.

But just as the clock ticked into stoppages, the moment Juve needed finally came. It came from their captain and their superstar. Danilo stole the ball from Chukwubuikem Ikuwemesi and measured up a perfect cross for Vlahovic, who rose between Gyömbér and Fazio to bounce a bullet header into the net to give Juve three badly needed points as the andata came to a close.

US Salernitana v Juventus FC - Serie A TIM

LE PAGELLE

WOJCIECH SZCZESNY - 7. Didn’t have to make a ton of saves but the one on Bradaric’s long-range bomb was impressive, and he kept the box relatively clear throughout.

FEDERICO GATTI - 5.5.  ............

BREMER - 7. Four clearances, good passing out of the back. A solid game as usual.

DANILO - 8. Another do-everything day for the captain. He led the team in touches (119), key passes (3), and tackles (4), was second amongst the starters with a 94.2 percent pass completion rate. His assist for Vlahovic was pitch-perfect. He continues to lead this team by example.

TIMOTHY WEAH - 6.  ............

WESTON McKENNIE - 6.  ............

HANS NICOLUSSI CAVIGLIA - 5. A rough day for the youngster.  ............

ADRIEN RABIOT - 6. Another game in the “very solid” category for the Frenchman, who contributed a key pass and buzzed around the attacking third. Should’ve had an assists had McKennie not botched his header.

FILIP KOSTIC - 4.5.  ............

KENAN YILDIZ - 5.5. Led the team in dribbles but wasn’t able to get things going in the final third against a parked bus. It’s only his fourth league game, so obviously there is a ton of room for growth, but these are the kinds of games the team will need his skills to help break these defenses down.

DUSAN VLAHOVIC - 6. Credited with the least intentional assist in the history of mankind on the equalizer, and rose up when it mattered most for the goal. Beyond that, he was actually playing pretty poorly, but it’s the mark of a great striker to be able to break through with a goal even when you’re not having your best day.

SUBS

SAMUEL ILING-JUNIOR - 6.5. Took his goal excellently, and also had a pair of tackles defensively. Changed the nature of the attacks down the left with his dynamism.

US Salernitana v Juventus - Serie A TIM

DANIELE RUGANI - 6. Solid in the back after coming on for Gatti. Made two tackles and two clearances, along with an interception. Brought most anything that came close to his side to a halt.

ARKADIUSZ MILIK - 6. Again became the fulcrum around which Juve could operate in the attacking third. An underrated part of the game was his forcing the foul that Juve subsequently turned into the sequence that led to the equalizer.

FABIO MIRETTI - 6.  ............

JOSEPH NONGE - NR. His Serie A debut was nothing to write home about, but it wasn’t a disaster either. I’d love to see what this kids has got.

MANAGER ANALYSIS

Let’s start with what Max did well in this game. Chiefly, that’s his subs. He only had five outfield players available to him on the day, and used them all to great effect. Removing Kostic was a no-brainer, and Allegri should think hard about how many more starts he gets in the near future. Getting Gatti out of there, who was turning into the defender’s edition of LeRoy Jenkins, was a good idea as well.

It was the timing of the changes that mentions special notion, as it very much bucks his unfortunate habit of waiting far too long to make changes until the sub has very little time to make an impact. These changes are ultimately what won Juve the match — Iling in particular — and deserve praise.

FBL-ITA-SERIEA-SALERNITANA-JUVENTUS

However, this game exposed a serious weakness in Allegri’s current approach, and it’s one that’s going to increasingly come into play as the season progresses. Allegri still doesn’t have a real plan when it comes to breaking down a low block. While a lack of players with that kind of creativity is certainly one problem, it still feels like Allegri is just waiting for someone to have a massive individual moment to break the impasse, rather than finding a tactical solution ot the problem.

Breaking teams down is going to be essential as the season goes on. Yildiz may go a ways toward fixing the problem, but he’s still young and needs developing, so heaping that all on him from the start is probably unwise. Individual brilliance will only go so far in a long season, and Allegri needs to find some way to counter a low block.

LOOKING AHEAD

Juve take on Frosinone on Thursday in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals, then welcome Sassuolo — the only team to have beaten them this season — to the Allianz on Tuesday night.

Despite finding themselves trailing at the interval, Juventus still managed to pull off a slim victory over their hosts Salernitana.

The Granata were adamant about proving a point following their 1-6 humiliating defeat at the Allianz Stadium in the Coppa Italia on Thursday. ...........

Therefore, the two goal-scorers received the highest grades in the player ratings of the major Italian news outlets (mostly 7/10).

On the other hand, Filip Kostic earned the lowest notes (5/10) for a hollow first-half display. Max Allegri decided to haul him off after the break, which proved to be a wise decision, especially with Iling-Junior producing the goods.

Aldo Serena reveals where the difference between Juventus and Inter lies

File:Serie A 1985-86 - Juventus vs Lecce - Aldo Serena.jpg

Former Inter Milan and Juventus star Aldo Serena has unveiled the disparity between the two clubs.

As Juventus and Inter currently contend for the Serie A title, the Bianconeri have defied expectations to stay in the race.

Despite Inter possessing the league’s most formidable squad and being overwhelming favourites for the championship, they are only two points ahead of Juventus, who have managed to stay close in the league standings.

Week after week, the Bianconeri grind out tough results to keep Inter within striking distance.

It appears that the title race this season will go down to the wire, and Juventus remains resilient. ...........

“Does the ranking reflect the performances of Juve and Inter in Serie A? Yes, I think the ranking is right. Inter is the strongest team, which has the strongest players and has played better than the others for now. Juventus, on the other hand, hasn’t played well in certain periods, but they are a tough team with great players. The difference between the two teams is in midfield.” ...........

Rabiot suffers another injury problem for Juventus

Juventus confident of agreeing new contract with Adrien Rabiot amid ongoing interest | OneFootball

Adrien Rabiot is currently sidelined with an injury, which will force him to miss Juventus’ Coppa Italia match against Frosinone. Despite the setback, the Frenchman has been a pivotal player for the Bianconeri this season, having signed a one-year contract extension at the Allianz Stadium in the summer.

Juventus has been appreciative of Rabiot’s contributions and is actively pursuing a new long-term contract with him. His presence on the team sheet is highly valued when he is fit, making his absence a disappointment for the team.

Rabiot hopes to recover in time for the Serie A game against Sassuolo following the Frosinone match.

Additionally, there are concerns about the fitness of Federico Chiesa ...........
