Juventus ultras respond to Fiorentina with a message of compassion: “We’re not like you”

Image

As we all know, Fiorentina fans despise Juventus with a passion. However, their actions often cross the red lines. Their most infamous recurring act is undoubtedly celebrating the Heysel disaster which cost the lives of 39 Bianconeri supporters in 1985. .............

Nevertheless, the Old Lady’s ultras took the high road, showing their support their support to the Tuscan region that was dramatically affected by the floods in recent days.

“We are not like you. We stand by the suffering Tuscany,” read two banners held by Juventus ultras during last night’s 1-0 at the Artemio Franchi Stadium. .............

Moreno Torricelli explains how Cagliari can hurt Juventus when they meet

Juventus vs Cagliari Prediction and Betting Tips

Former Juventus star Moreno Torricelli believes the game between Juve and Cagliari will be a tough one for the Bianconeri, with their opponents having nothing to lose. ...............

Ahead of the game, Torricelli said:

“Ranieri’s team is confident, they are coming off three consecutive victories and there is no shortage of enthusiasm, in Turin they will play their match knowing that they will not having nothing to lose and everything to gain.

“Juve are not convincing from a playing point of view but they are getting plenty of results, they are a team that is very good at defending themselves and the rearguard is supported by a midfield of substance.” ...............

Juventus vs Cagliari: Serie A Preview, Potential Lineups & Prediction

20201122_Juventus_Cagliari_Preview-scaled.jpg

Saturday’s Serie A action rounds off at the Allianz Stadium as Juventus and Cagliari go head-to-head for the first time since April 2022. Let’s look at our match preview for this contest. ...............

It’s unfathomable how Juventus waltzed away from Tuscany with three points, considering they lamented just 32% possession of the ball and conceded a staggering 25 shots on goal. However, they held their ground in Florence to post a fourth consecutive league win ‘to nil.’ Since the last three have yielded an identical 1-0 scoreline, Juve would be wise to avoid getting complacent.

With only two points separating them from top-placed Inter, Juventus could temporarily climb to the summit with a win. But visiting Cagliari seem to be gaining a foothold in Serie A following a dreadful form at the start of their first top-flight campaign in two years. Claudio Ranieri’s men crawled out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 home win over fellow promoted rivals Genoa last weekend. ...............

Match Preview

Juventus

Although only Bologna (12) amongst the sides starting this round in the top eight have bagged fewer goals than Juventus (17), the record-time Italian champions are seemingly back in the Scudetto frame after three underwhelming campaigns. Much of the credit for their return to glory goes to a water-tight backline that has kept six consecutive league clean sheets in the build-up to this matchday.

Indeed, alongside Inter, Juventus boast the joint-best defensive record in Serie A this season, with only six goals conceded in the first 11 matches. It’s among the main reasons Bianconeri have emerged victorious in four league outings at the Allianz Stadium on the trot since a 1-1 draw against Bologna in their curtain-raising home fixture in August.

Player to Watch: Moise Kean ...............

Cagliari

Cagliari have turned a seemingly horrendous campaign upside down in less than seven days, racking up back-to-back Serie A wins and squeezing past Udinese in the Coppa Italia. Against this backdrop, the Sardinians haven’t fared well in hostile environments, going winless on all five league travels this season (D2, L3). ...............

Juventus vs Cagliari Potential Lineups

Juventus (3-5-2): Wojciech Szczesny; Federico Gatti, Gleison Bremer, Daniele Rugani; Andrea Cambiaso, Adrien Rabiot, Manuel Locatelli, Weston McKennie, Fabio Miretti; Federico Chiesa, Moise Kean.

Cagliari (4-3-1-2): Simone Scuffet; Mateusz Wieteska, Alberto Dossena, Pantelis Hatzidiakos, Gabriele Zappa; Nicola Viola, Makoumbou, Matteo Prati; Marco Mancosu; Zito Luvumbo, Gaetano Oristanio.

Juventus vs Cagliari Prediction

On paper, this should be another day in the office for Juventus. However, the hosts’ wins have lacked conviction, while the visitors are on the path of redemption after a sluggish start. Allegri’s men should still run out victors, but we can envisage a dramatic contest.

Prediction: Juventus Win

“Locatelli will be the captain” – Allegri reveals some of his choices before Cagliari match

A blueprint to the future of the Juventus midfield - Black & White & Read All Over

On Saturday evening, Juventus will welcome Cagliari to the Allianz Stadium in the final Serie A weekend before the November international break.

Due to several absentees either through injuries or suspension, Max Allegri will have to introduce some tweaks to his starting formation.

The Juventus manager held his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon where he revealed some of his choices for tomorrow.

The 56-year-old announced that Manuel Locatelli will wear the captain’s armband in the absence of the injured Danilo and the balanced Adrien Rabiot.

“From all points of view, tomorrow’s match will be fundamental for us,” said Allegri. ................

While some suggested that Dean Huijsen could start tomorrow, Allegri revealed that Federico Gatti will maintain his place at the back despite risking a ban.

“Federico Gatti is one card away from a ban, but he will play because we can’t afford to look ahead to the next matches. ................

“In attack, everyone is healthy and that’s the most important aspect. Whoever starts from the beginning will be able to make an impact and the same goes for whoever comes in during the game. ................

“It’s a difficult match because we’re coming from an extremely positive period and, consequently, the attention span could be decreased, but I’ve warned my players.

“We will have to play with serenity, but at the same time with determination to bring home an important result.”

Juventus will host Cagliari in Serie A this weekend, looking to continue their impressive run of form with a victory at home.

Watch Juventus vs. Cagliari Online: Live Stream, Start Time | 11/11/2023

Juventus are currently second in the league table, and they will hope to climb to the top of the table with a win over Cagliari on Saturday. The home side are coming into this game on the back of four consecutive victories in the league, and they will be the favourites heading into this contest.

Meanwhile, Cagliari are 17th in the league table, and they will need to start picking up points or they could be dragged into the relegation battle. They have picked up two consecutive victories in the league and they will look to pull off an upset here. .............

Team News & Tactics

Juventus .............

Probable Lineup (3-5-2): Szczesny; Rugani, Bremer, Huijsen; Cambiaso, McKennie, Locatelli, Miretti, Kostic; Vlahovic, Chiesa

Cagliari .............

Probable Lineup (4-3-1-2): Scuffet; Zappa, Goldaniga, Dossena, Augello; Makoumbou, Prati, Jankto; Mancosu; Luvumbo, Oristanio

Key Stats

  • Juventus have won 11 of their last 12 matches against Cagliari in all competitions.
  • Juventus have kept a clean sheet in their last six matches in Serie A.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Cagliari’s last six games in Serie A.
  • 17 goals have been scored in the last six matches between these two teams.
  • Cagliari have conceded 22 goals in 11 league matches this season.

Player to Watch

Federico Chiesa

The 26-year-old winger has been in impressive form this season, and he has four goals in 10 league appearances. He will look to help create goalscoring opportunities for his teammates and get on the score sheet himself. .............

Prediction

Juventus 3-1 Cagliari

Juventus are undoubtedly the better team here, and they should be able to grind out all three points. Cagliari will be desperate to bounce back strongly and they are likely to put up a fight. However, the gulf in quality between the two teams is immense and the home side should be able to pick up a comfortable victory at home. A 3-1 win for Juventus is on the cards this weekend.

Bremer and Rugani’s goals send Juventus to the top of the Serie A

Calcio | Serie A | 2023-2024 | Juventus-Cagliari 2-1 | Reti di Bremer, Rugani, Dossena | 11 novembre 2023

Juventus defeated Cagliari 2-1 in Serie A this evening to maintain their winning streak, although their run of clean sheets has come to an end. ..............

The Old Lady started well, but they faced a Cagliari side on a three-game winning streak, and their visitors had the energy to pose some problems at the beginning of the match. ..............

The Bianconeri had to wait until the hour mark to open the scoring, with Gleison Bremer heading in a fine Filip Kostic free kick.

The Bianconeri extended their lead ten minutes later when Daniele Rugani scrambled the ball home in a crowded Cagliari goal.

Cagliari pulled one back five minutes later, setting up a nervous finish to the game. Juve has been fantastic defensively this season and defended their lead well while trying to score another goal.

Both clubs sought another goal, but it never came, and Juve will spend the next few hours at the top of the Italian league table before Inter Milan plays.

Juventus 2 - Cagliari 1: Initial reaction and random observations

Guess who’s back atop the Serie A table ... even if it is just for one night pending future results.

Juventus v Cagliari Calcio - Serie A TIM

Sunday night at the Allianz Stadium proved to be one where a few of Juventus’ most prominent streaks came to an unfortunate end. .............

Not only did Juventus see another game pass where none of their strikers scored, not only did Juventus return to their ways of not scoring from open play and not only did we see Max Allegri drop things deep against a lesser opponent to hold onto a win, but we also saw the Bianconeri extend their winning streak to five games with a 2-1 victory over Cagliari. What looked like it was going to be another win and a clean sheet after goals from Bremer and Daniele Rugani (and his junk), turned into something was maybe a little too close for comfort when Cagliari cut the lead in half — the kind of goal that will certainly make Max Allegri a little angry despite the victory and the three points.

Oh, and this, too: Juventus are, for at least 24 hours, looking down at all of the other 19 teams in Serie A, one point clear of Inter ahead of their game against Matias Soulé and Frosinone on Sunday night.

Alas ... gone is the streak of 1-0 wins, which ended at three. (And, in a way, going from the end of one international break to the start of the next and winning every game by the same 1-0 scoreline would have given me some kind of sick amusement. I know, I know, but it makes me laugh!) .............

Juventus will take that winning streak into the first Derby d’Italia of the season at San Siro in a couple of weeks. We don’t know if Juve will still be first or kicked back down to second with Sunday night’s result. But we do know is that Juventus will probably be hoping that Soulé gives them a little bit of help and tries to ensure that his parent club goes into the break officially atop the table.

That is still going to be something that Allegri plays down no matter what considering what the main objective for this season continues to be. But the thing with this season is that Allegri’s team is getting wins in games in which they found themselves dropping points in a year ago. Was the performance against Cagliari all that great? Nah, I don’t think so. There’s still plenty of issues with this Juventus squad — especially when you take out a few key pieces because of suspension and/or injuries. .............

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Juventus are undefeated in games in which Manuel Locatelli wears the captain’s armband this season.
  • They’re also undefeated in games this season when Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sami Khedira show up and get a nice round of applause before the game. If only Mario Mandzukic had rolled into Turin for the weekend and met up with two of his best mates from his Juve days.
  • A half-hour in and Juve recorded all of two shots. That’s not exactly testing the greatness that is Simone Scuffet in goal. Oh well.
  • Juve’s first half in a nutshell: misplaced passes out of the back, misplaced shots when they got the ball to the attack. Basically, an opening 45 minutes where they didn’t play very well. .............
  • Man, I was so ready to just kick up my feet — even though I watch every game in my recliner so they’re technically usually kicked up — after Rugani scored with his groin area to make it 2-0. But nope, we had to sweat this one out because that’s just how this team is.
  • Allegri essentially challenged Federico Gatti not to get a yellow card (and the subsequent suspension) that would force him to miss the Inter showdown — and he was successful! Good job listening to your coach, Mr. Cats.
  • “Juventus are atop the table” has a nice ring to it. Frosinone should beat Inter on Sunday night so that we can continue to say that for the next couple of weeks at minimum.

Juventus Player Ratings vs Cagliari: Scoring Defenders Put Bianconeri on Top

3824191-77716748-2560-1440.jpg

At the Allianz Stadium in Turin, Juventus pulled off another Corto Muso by beating Cagliari with two goals to one. ............

Juventus (3-5-2)

Wojciech Szczesny – 6

After keeping a clean sheet for more than 600 minutes, the Pole’s run came to a sudden end but there was little he could do on Dossena’s header. But he did well to deny the Cagliari defender on the second occasion with a finger-tip save.

Federico Gatti – 6

The former Frosinone man tried to put his name on the scoresheet like his fellow Juventus defenders but his headers were miscued. Darted forward on some occasions but his passing left much to be desired. Nonetheless, he did well to limit Zito Luvumbo’s danger.

Gleison Bremer – 7.5

A commanding display at the back from the Brazilian who completely nullified Andrea Petagna’s threat. Opened the scoring with a brilliant header following a towering jump.

Daniele Rugani – 7

The former Cagliari defender needed two awkward touches to put the ball in the back of the net, but they all count. Held his ground against Leonardo Pavoletti in the final minutes.

Andrea Cambiaso – 5.5 ...............

Weston Mckennie – 6.5

A fine display from the USMNT star who covered every ounce of the pitch. Sprinted back to dispossess Tommaso Augello on one occasion and helped in bringing the ball forward.

Manuel Locatelli – 6

A solid if not spectacular display from the Euro 2020 winner. Struggled to anchor the play with Nicolas Viola pressing him back, but did well to protect the ball.

Fabio Miretti – 6 ...............

Filip Kostic – 6.5 ...............

Federico Chiesa – 6.5

It wasn’t the Italian’s most amazing performance but he still had his moments. Put Kean through with a brilliant play, won dangerous freekicks and delivered the assist for Rugani’s goal. He also came close to scoring a long-range spectacular volley.

Moise Kean – 5.5 ...............

Substitutes

Dusan Vlahovic – 6

The Serbian was looking to impress his compatriot Novak Djokovic who was at the stadium. Skipped past two opponents at once before putting Iling-Junior through on goal.

Samuel Iling-Junior – 5.5 ...............

Arkadiusz Milik – N/A

Hans Nicolussi Caviglia – N/A

Claudio Ranieri Blasts Cagliari Defending After Juventus Loss

192941243-76d4986d-6c24-4f99-9769-61bfd39d8c1f.png

Claudio Ranieri cut a frustrated character after his Cagliari side relinquished a two-game winning Serie A run with a 2-1 defeat at Juventus. The Sardinians showed plenty of defensive promise in the first half, taking a 0-0 scoreline into halftime, only to collapse after the interval. ..............

There is bitterness over the opening 15 minutes when we did not do enough, while we worked all week on set play situations, and then Juve scored two goals in precisely the way we expected,” the Cagliari boss said.

“Bremer had nobody within two meters of him, and that is unacceptable against a team that is famous for being good on set plays,” Ranieri continued.

The devastated Cagliari coach couldn’t reconcile with an underwhelming result in Turin.

I told my players, I felt bad for reproaching them, as we managed to neutralize most of their counter-attacks and played well, but ultimately we lost. We lost because it is the details that make the difference.

MAX ALLEGRI AFTER JUVENTUS’ WIN OVER CAGLIARI: “INTER HAVE BEEN BUILT TO WIN THE SCUDETTO FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS”

Allegri: "Scudetto? Inter favorita, ma in una partita secca non lo so..."

Juventus boss Max Allegri has stated his belief about the fact that Inter are the favourites for the Scudetto, despite the Bianconeri’s 2-1 win over Cagliari. ...............

As a result of the win, Juve climbed to the top of the table for the time being, with Inter to play their game in hand tomorrow. But despite Juve’s position at the top, Allegri believes that Inter remain favourites to win the league but they may not be the team to bet on for one-offs.

The Italian told after the game: “In a one-off game I don’t know, but Inter are the favourites for the Scudetto. Inter have been built to win the scudetto for the next 5 years and they are this year too.” ...............

“Our strength” Bremer insists Juventus is prepared to face Inter Milan

192317700-9b0536e1-5081-4372-8a34-a46c22ad216a.png

Gleison Bremer believes Juventus are ready to face Inter Milan after the international break following their 2-1 win against Cagliari this evening.

The Bianconeri have now won five consecutive matches and will head into the international break full of confidence. .............

Bremer got back to scoring as he bagged the opener for the Bianconeri and said after the game:

“They are a great team, they are doing well. Our strength is our determination and we must continue like this.”

Asked about the improvements in the Juve defence, he added: “We are playing well, Rugani is also helping us a lot. We have one match a week. There is a lot of time to work and prepare the matches well.” .............

Pundit worried about Juventus struggles in front of goal

Di Marzio: Vlahovic and Chiesa major doubts for Juventus' trip to face Milan

The most recent attacker to score a goal for Juventus was Arkadiusz Milik, and there is growing concern about the lack of performance from their frontline.

Juventus boasts some of the finest attackers in Serie A, with players like Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic leading the team in scoring at the beginning of this campaign. ............

While the lack of goals from the attackers doesn’t seem to worry Allegri, and many Juventus fans are indifferent as long as the team keeps winning, pundit Alessandro Santarelli believes it is now a problem that needs addressing. ............

“I am worried about Vlahovic and the attackers in general. Chiesa doesn’t score, Kean is still without a goal, despite the three goals disallowed and the Milik scored the last goal in the derby. Furthermore, all four have a very high expected goal , so they make a lot of mistakes in front of goal and I’m worried.” ...........

Center backs Bremer and Rugani lead Juventus past Cagliari

With no offense from the strikers, Juventus found a way in the end.

Juventus v Cagliari Calcio - Serie A TIM

No striker production, no problem: behind goals from two center backs, Juventus are in first place in Serie A. At least temporarily.

The last two wins are the sort of wins that, a year ago, were not wins. That’s why, as unimpressive as Saturday night’s showing in the 2-1 win over Cagliari was in many respects, I think the team, the fans, and the coach should be generally happy with the recent run of victories. The five-game winning streak neither feels tenuous nor forged of steel — maybe somewhere in the middle. But three points is three points is three points. .............

The first goal came from a set piece, and while the placement from Kostic was excellent and the finish was excellent, the defending by Cagliari was some of the worst. Bremer had copious amounts of elbow room as he directed the ball into the far corner with his finely manicured head.

Juventus v Cagliari Calcio - Serie A TIM

The second goal also came off a set piece, a corner kick, but that’s about where the similarities end. The corner was again placed very well, and the ball kind of bobbled around onto and, finally, off Daniele Rugani’s ... chest into the net. Not one for the highlight reel, but we’re Juventus: we’re not highlight reel divas at this stage of the game.

Just when you thought, for a moment, that Juventus would run away with this thing, center back Alberto Dossena rose above the Juventus defense on a corner kick to draw the visitors a goal away from level. The last 15 minutes and stoppage time were nervy stuff; this was not the insanely low block we might’ve thought we’d see from Juventus — although that might’ve been smart. .............

LE PAGELLE

Wojciech Szczęsny — 6.5. .............

Federico Gatti — 6.5. .............

Bremer — 7.5. Was he perfect on the day like we’ve gotten accustomed to seeing? Nope. There were a few shaky moments, actually. But he was still solid defensively, and he scored a wonderful goal.

Daniele Rugani — 7. Overall another good display from the resurgent Rugani. He missed a mark or two early, but he settled well and, I guess, scored the game-winning goal. Is that right? You’ve got to be happy for Rugani.

Filip Kostic — 7.5. I didn’t think Kostic started the game well at all; in fact, one could’ve argued he might’ve been a good player to take off. Good thing I’m not the coach; the Serbian ended up producing the most chances and being a consistently dangerous threat. For me, it’s a split man of the match honors with Bremer.

Andrea Cambiaso — 5.5.  .............

Manuel Locatelli — 6. Locatelli was ... fine. He was relegated to just 57 touches all game, and for large parts of the game he was totally anonymous because of Cagliari’s marking. Allegri made nice adjustments in the second half to make things a bit better, but still he wasn’t heavily involved.

Fabio Miretti— 5.5. .............

Weston McKennie — 6.5. The American continues to prove himself. The stats say he didn’t have a great game, but I thought he was the team’s best midfielder for his defensive contributions and hustle. He also had a couple nice long and accurate crosses, but mostly I remember him sprinting the full length of the field at least once or twice to single-handedly destroy a counterattack. The kid can run.

Federico Chiesa — 6. .............

Moise Kean — 5.5. .............

SUBS

Samuel Iling-Junior — 6. Not a lot of involvement from the Englishman, but I for one am a bit interested in seeing more of him in that midfield spot against weaker competition. Either way, he’s got jets and skills, so I think Allegri needs to try to field him somewhere more.

Juventus v Cagliari Calcio - Serie A TIM

Dušan Vlahović — 6.5. He didn’t play much, but he looked spicy in a good way out there, with a key pass and a dribble. Would like to see him back on the scoresheet soon.

Arkadiusz Milik — N/A. .............

Hans Nicolussi Caviglia — N/A. .............

MANAGER ANALYSIS

Not a lot to say here: down his most consistently available player in Adrien Rabiot, Allegri chose the lineup that probably made the most sense and had the least built-in risk. It worked. What did seem a little off was the team’s defensive cogency; perhaps the team would’ve been even more vulnerable if Allegri hadn’t warned them so vocally about this as a sort of trap game. But he and his team got it done in the end.

LOOKING AHEAD

This game might have been a best-case scenario: it was far from a stellar performance, yet the Old Lady got all three points. That means Allegri will have plenty to ruminate on over the international break, plenty to berate the players over when they return.

For now, though, Juventus are top of the table, and that’s never a bad thing. With Milan dropping points against Lecce earlier in the day, the Bianconeri can feel a little more comfortable in that top four. There’s still a long, long road ahead, but I think every Juventus fan on the planet would’ve taken this position at this juncture in the season.

Allegri on Derby d’Italia: “Inter the favorites, they’re built to win”

Juventus 2023-2024: obiettivi e posizione di Allegri a fine stagione

........

The upcoming Derby d’Italia promises to be a thrilling encounter between the two league leaders.

Juventus will host Inter at the Allianz Stadium in their first fixture after the international break, and Max Allegri depicts his side as the underdog. ........

“Anything can happen in a single match,” said the Livorno native.

“They are favorites together with Milan and Napoli. Inter have been built for years to win the Scudetto, they have the strength to do it. I believe they have a great chance to win.” ........

Juventus will go into the Derby d’Italia with the chance to take over first place

Things remained the same at the top of the Serie A table, and that means things will be pretty dang spicy in a couple of weeks when the games return.

Juventus v Cagliari Calcio - Serie A TIM

Saturday night’s win over Cagliari didn’t mark the first time this season that Juventus moved into first place in Serie A on a provisional basis, but the timing of it made things a little more heightened compared to a few weeks ago. That’s both because Inter still had to play on Sunday night against Matias Soulé and Frosinone but also because of the massive fixture that awaits Juve after the international break.

Well, Juve went into Sunday atop the Serie A table.

They will go into the first Derby d’Italia of the 2023-24 season trying to get back there.

The help from Soulé and Frosinone never arrived despite their best efforts Sunday night, as Inter jumped back over Juventus thanks to their win at the San Siro. That sets up a first place vs. second place meeting at the Allianz Stadium in Turin in a couple of weeks, with a whole international break to craft all the narrative and storylines that will carry us over the next two weeks while we wait for the Sunday, Nov. 26, showdown in Turin. .......

And maybe more importantly when you look at the fact that Max Allegri and Cristiano Giuntoli continue to hammer home the fact that Juventus are solely focused on finishing in the top four and not declaring themselves big-time Scudetto challengers just yet, this is what things look like from second place to fifth place:

  • Juventus — 29 points
  • AC Milan — 23 points (and winless in their last four league games)
  • Napoli — 21 points (and about to fire their manager)
  • Atalanta — 20 points (and with two wins in their last six league games)

We sit here as the November international break is about to begin and there’s already a six-point gap between second place and third place. .......

Capello says Inter is so good that they would beat Juventus in a video game

Udinese 0-3: Juventus: Federico Chiesa on target as Juve cruise to victory - Eurosport

Italian coach Fabio Capello says that Inter Milan currently possesses a superior squad compared to Juventus as the two teams prepare to face each other after the international break. ............

“If video games were played the result would be quite clear: 2-0 for Inter, thanks to a larger and more qualitative squad than that of Juventus. Simone Inzaghi can count on two starters by position, almost all interchangeable.

“Massimiliano Allegri is not, also because the team was built to face a season without European commitments.

“But on November 26th it will be a real match, not a virtual one. And we will play on the details. Starting from the kick-offs corner and lateral free kicks, strong points of both Juventus and Inter.” ............
