Allegri: Key for Juventus is to play in an organised fashion

Coach’s comments after a late, late winner seals all three points

Juve-Verona 1-0, gol di Cambiaso al fotofinish e Allegri è primo - Sbircia la Notizia Magazine

Juventus left it very, very late on Saturday against Hellas Verona, getting an Andrea Cambiaso winner in the last minute of six added on at the end of the game. It was starting to look like it wasn’t the Bianconeri’s night with two Moise Kean goals chalked off by VAR and a number of other close chances missed.

Speaking after the game, coach Massimiliano Allegri said -

“Football is deadly, we took 97 minutes to win the game, then scored a goal after it hit the post and came back out.

“The team deserved this victory and played in an organised manner, that was the most important thing. The winner with a minute to go saw us build it up calmly. Szczesny passed it to Miretti, then to Gatti for the cross, Milik’s header and then Cambiaso.

“The lads kept sharp even that late on and that was crucial after a good overall performance.”

Kean was pretty unhappy with the two decisions going against him and got booked as well, but was subsequently very disappointed to be replaced by Federico Chiesa.

“He did not deserve to come off, but when two goals are disallowed and he gets booked, I thought this is really not his night, get him off! Kean is a player who has improved a great deal, he has changed physically and mentally.” ............

Kean Top, Vlahovic Flop: Italian newspapers ratings for Juventus vs Verona

Serie A - Juventus-Hellas Verona 1-0: il gol di Cambiaso al 96° manda i bianconeri di Allegri in testa al campionato - Eurosport

Juventus-Hellas Verona OGGI IN TV: ORARIO, CANALE e diretta streaming Serie A 2023/2024

This weekend, Juventus kept their winning streak intact thanks to Andrea Cambiaso who came off the bench to deliver a last-minute winner against Hellas Verona.

The Bianconeri dominated the action at the Allianz Stadium. For his part, Moise Kean scored two goals that were harshly disallowed by VAR.

The first was a fabulous solo effort, but the semi-automated offside technology deemed him to be in an offside position, albeit by a few centimeters. On the second occasion, the video assistant picked up a doubtful foul on Marco Faraoni in the buildup.

In any case, the main Italian newspapers handed the former Everton striker relatively high notes – mostly 7/10 – for his efforts. ............

CORRIERE DELLO SPORT –  Szczesny (6.5), Gatti (6), Bremer (6.5), Rugani (6), Weah (5.5), Mckennie (6), Locatelli (7), Rabiot (6.5 ), Kostic (6.5), Kean (6.5), Vlahovic (5), Milik (7), Cambiaso (7), Chiesa (6.5), Miretti (6.5), Allegri (7).

Tuttosport  – Szczesny (6.5), Gatti (6), Bremer (6), Rugani (6), Weah (6), Mckennie (6.5), Locatelli (6.5), Rabiot (6), Kostic ( 6), Kean (7.5), Vlahovic (5), Milik (7), Cambiaso (7), Chiesa (6), Miretti (6), Allegri (6.5).

And the Oscar goes to… Verona captain mocked for play-acting on Kean’s disallowed goal

Faraoni, l'incredibile simulazione per far annullare il gol di Kean

On Saturday, Juventus escaped with all three points thanks to a last-gasp winner from Andrea Cambiaso.

While this was the solitary goal that stood throughout the evening, Moise Kean was unlucky to see two strikes disallowed by VAR. ...........

On the second occasion, the video assistant called the match official to review the action, and the latter overturned his decision due to a foul from Kean on Verona captain Davide Faraoni.

Interestingly, the Inter youth product was caught on camera monitoring the action, only to collapse back to the ground in dramatic fashion after watching the Juventus striker score. ...........

“The award for best interpretation goes to Faraoni”.

“He was about to get up, but the moment he saw the ball in the net he collapsed back to the ground as if he had been hit again. The Actors Studio award is his.” ...........

Defensive Solidity Fueling Juventus Ongoing Strong Run

Juventus have tightened the screws after the disastrous showing against Sassuolo. They have been unbeaten in the last 360 minutes.

Juventus have tightened the screws after the disastrous showing against Sassuolo, where they lost 2-4. The goofy own goal by Federico Gatti represents the last time they conceded. They have been unbeaten in 360 minutes. Only Nice have a longer active streak in Europe (363’).

The Bianconeri have kept four consecutive clean sheets against quality opponents: Lecce, Atalanta, Torino, and Milan. They have done so despite being undermanned defensively. Alex Sandro has been out for nearly two months at this point, while Danilo has missed the last two games. He’s likely to return from a thigh strain versus Fiorentina. Daniele Rugani has been impeccable in relief.

Moreover, Juventus are one of just five teams in the top leagues that haven’t allowed a goal on set pieces. ............

Wojciech Szczesny has been highly instrumental in their success with a few crucial saves. He notched his 200th clean sheet in the Verona match, six of which in this campaign already. He has the best percentage in such a stat across the Old Continent so far. ............

Fiorentina dealt with injury crisis at right-back ahead of Juventus clash

Vincenzo Italiano

Next Sunday, Juventus travel to Tuscany where an unpleasant welcome awaits them at the Artemio Franchi. .............

Nevertheless, Viola manager Vincenzo Italiano will have to contend the match in the absence of his two main right-back options. .............

Dodo ...... 19-year-old Michael Kayode .............

The Tuscans will now have to resort to 18-year-old Pietro Camuzzo. The teeneager will get his first real taste of Serie A action against the capital side this evening.

He’ll either impress and lock himself a starting berth against Juventus, or prove to be unready for this stage, which would force Italiano to improvise next weekend.

Juventus Star Primed for First Fiorentina Homecoming

After coming off the bench in the last two games following a thigh injury, Federico Chiesa will likely be back in the starting XI against Fiorentina.

After coming off the bench in the last two games following a thigh injury, Federico Chiesa will likely be back in the starting XI against Fiorentina in the next round. It’ll be the first time he faces his former team at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. He was on the shelf for the previous meetings.

Instead, Dusan Vlahovic has already faced the Viola in Tuscany once. He was promptly submerged by the boos and whistles of the crowd. He and the Italian attacker got off to a great start, scoring four goals in the first five rounds. However, they have been hampered by physical problems afterward and have fallen into month-long slumps.

Chiesa and Vlahovic will both seek their maiden goal versus Fiorentina on Sunday. They haven’t had many chances to face their previous outfit thus far, though. ...........

Juventus has sent a message to their title rivals reckons journalist

Juventus Vs Verona, Pahlawan Bianconeri Santai Dapat Kartu Kuning

...........

Following their victory over AC Milan in the previous game, fans may have expected the Verona match to be easier. However, it turned out to be a tough encounter, with Juventus securing the win with a very late goal.

Journalist Riccardo Cucchi believes that this win sends a message to their rivals. ...........

“Inter at the top of the table after having narrowly, but deservedly, overtaken a Roma organized and focused on the defensive phase.

“Juventus reaches second place by beating Verona and sending a signal to the championship. Allegri’s team is there. Milan interprets the first half perfectly and puts fear for Napoli who reacts in the second half and equalizes. A highly spectacular match and a bit chaotic tactically.” ...........

Journalist predicts how Juventus attack will look like against Fiorentina

Fiorentina v Juventus Match Preview and Scouting - | Juvefc.com

Juventus is set to face Fiorentina in their upcoming Serie A match, and they will be eager to secure a victory. .............

Allegri now has a fully-fit attacking squad and can deploy various tactical setups.

With Federico Chiesa, Dusan Vlahovic, Arkadiusz Milik, and Moise Kean all available, Allegri may need to make choices. .............

Giovanni Guardalà said:

“Vlahovic? Last year, he didn’t even play for a minute in Florence, he didn’t particularly like it, but he didn’t play that match at all. He played in Florence in the Italian Cup first.

“He played against Fiorentina at the Allianz but in Florence he has never played in the championship yet. I think he will start on the bench, but this does not mean that he will not play during the match.

“Because it’s true Kean hasn’t scored yet but he was among the best, if not the best, against Verona and Milan. So leaving it out at this time I think is not right. I can see Chiesa better next to him, he came on very well against Verona. Now he is training regularly, if there are no problems, that could be the pair of attackers for the match in Florence.” .............

Fiorentina vs Juventus: Serie A Preview, Potential Lineups & Prediction

Fiorentina_Juventus_Preview-900x400.jpg

Stadio Artemio Franchi is the venue as Fiorentina and Juventus go head-to-head in a tasty-looking Serie A showdown on Sunday evening. .............

Though the visitors haven’t shined recently, they’ve proved well-versed in taking three points in challenging environments. Massimiliano Allegri’s side first capitalized on a numerical advantage to sink Milan 1-0 at the San Siro before Andrea Cambiaso’s last-gasp winner helped them take down Hellas Verona on home turf last weekend.

Buzzing from a three-game winning league streak ‘to nil,’ Juventus commence this round only two points adrift of pacesetters Inter as their first Scudetto challenge in four years looks off and running.

Match Preview

Fiorentina

Fiorentina’s bid to bounce back from a rough patch faces a formidable task, considering they face a Juventus side they’ve lost a club-record 86 matches against. But if it’s any consolation, they’ve avoided defeat in the last four meetings they’ve hosted (W1, D3), conceding an average of 0.5 goals per game. ............

Player to Watch: Giacomo Bonaventura ...............

Juventus

Regardless of their superb string of results at the beginning of the new campaign, scoring has been an issue for Juventus. Their uneventful frontline has only netted five goals in their last five Serie A outings (W4, D1). Luckily, they’ve had a water-tight backline to watch their back.

With five consecutive clean sheets in the build-up to this trip, Juventus have re-established themselves as a defensive superpower in Serie A. Only Inter (5) have conceded fewer goals than Allegri’s lads (6) thus far, though it’s worth noting that 67% of those goals have come on the road.

Remarkably, four goals came in a 4-2 defeat at Sassuolo, while they’ve registered shutouts on their remaining four trips this term. That doesn’t change the fact Juventus’ away form requires immediate improvement. They’ve blown hot and cold across their last three Serie A travels (W1, D1, L1).

Player to Watch: Federico Chiesa

Returning to his old stomping ground, where he spent 15 years, the Italian winger is looking for his first goal against Fiorentina after three scoring blanks. Motivation shouldn’t be in short supply, knowing his last Serie A goal dates back to September.

Team News

Gaetano Castrovilli and Dodo will not be part of the Fiorentina squad this weekend, with prodigious right-back Michael Kayode facing a race against time to make the cut.

As for Juventus, Alex Sandro, Danilo, Paul Pogba, Nicolo Fagioli, Mattia De Sciglio, and Timothy Weah are not on Allegri’s list of travelers. The USMNT star’s absence probably means Fabio Miretti will return to the starting lineup.

Fiorentina vs Juventus Potential Lineups

Fiorentina (4-2-3-1): Pietro Terracciano; Cristiano Biraghi, Lucas Martinez Quarta, Nikola Milenkovic, Fabiano Parisi; Alfred Duncan, Arthur Melo; Nicolas Gonzalez, Giacomo Bonaventura, Jonathan Ikone; Lucas Beltran.

Juventus (3-5-2): Wojciech Szczesny; Federico Gatti, Gleison Bremer, Daniele Rugani; Andrea Cambiaso, Adrien Rabiot, Manuel Locatelli, Weston McKennie, Fabio Miretti; Federico Chiesa, Dusan Vlahovic.

Fiorentina vs Juventus Prediction

While we wouldn’t go as far as to back Fiorentina to knock Juventus off their perch, we can envisage the hosts grabbing a point here. Juve’s recent performances have flattered to deceive, and you can’t always expect to get away with a highway robbery.

Prediction: Draw

Pavan predicts the Juventus attack for the game against Fiorentina

PANINI CALCIATORI ADRENALYN 2023 2024 CARD N.438 Vlahović Kean Chiesa Imparabile | eBay

Juventus boasts a wealth of options in their attacking lineup, with nearly all of their forwards available for the upcoming match against Fiorentina this weekend. ............

The upcoming match will mark a return to Florence for Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa, and both players are fit to participate.

Interestingly, Chiesa has been injured whenever Juventus has faced Fiorentina since his move to the club, but Vlahovic has previously faced Fiorentina as a Juventus player. ............

Predicting the lineup for the match, Massimo Pavan said:

“In defence, his hands are tied; there are no alternatives to the Bremer-Gatti-Rugani trio, while in midfield, I believe Miretti will be the starter together with Locatelli and Rabiot, with McKennie the favourite on the right. On the left, Cambiaso’s presence will depend on that of Chiesa, he will play in the starting 7, otherwise, there will be room for Kostic. There is plenty in attack. I think Chiesa is favoured for a place next to Vlahovic, but Allegri could prefer him Kean again from the first minute.” ............

'Our city is completely on its knees'- Fiorentina fans demand Serie A clash with Juventus be postponed amid floods

LATEST: Six dead in Tuscany after Storm Ciarán hits Italy - The Local

There are devastating floods in Florence and Fiorentina fans are calling for their clash against Juventus to be postponed due to the situation.

WHAT HAPPENED? After leaving the UK, Storm Ciaran made its way across Europe and struck Italy, especially the Tuscany area, where six confirmed deaths have already occurred. Fans of Fiorentina have requested that the match against Juventus, originally planned for Sunday at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, be postponed because the city of Florence has also been severely affected. The mayor of Florence announced earlier today that the game will go ahead as scheduled and Serie A also agreed and decided to hold a minute of silence for the deaths. .................

The Fiorentina ultras, the Curva Fiesole, put out a statement reading: ...............

"In a clear, decisive and categorical fashion, the Curva Fiesole ask that the match be postponed, so that the energy and resources are dedicated exclusively to our people who are struggling and not to put on a sporting event.

"We demand respect or the victims, their families, for those who have lost everything in just a few hours and now feel abandoned, without light or electricity, surrounded by water." .................

Juventus-Fiorentina still set to be played despite severe flooding in Tuscany

There’s been so much rain that the streets look more like rivers.

MALTEMPO - IL PUNTO ALLE 11 La Toscana flagellata da Ciaran, cinque morti - Notizie - Ansa.it

If you were to do a simple search for videos of what is going on in Tuscany right now, you would think it’s something out of a blockbuster movie that is about trying to get out of a truly horrific situation. The thing is, the flooding going on in Tuscany isn’t made by CGI or from some Hollywood scriptwriter’s brain — it’s most definitely real life.

Unfortunately, the beat, as of now, appears to be going on.

As of Friday night turning to Saturday morning in Italy, Juventus’ trip to Florence to face Fiorentina in a Sunday night showdown at the Franchi is a go. The flooding in the area of Tuscany appears to not be a deterrent to force any sort of postponement, with the Mayor of Florence Dario Nardella saying that “the match is not expected to be postponed, but the situation will be monitored between now and the next few hours.”

Other than Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso issuing a brief statement, neither club has given any hints as to whether there’s even a postponement being considered for Sunday’s game.

There doesn’t appear to be much of a respite when it comes to the weather over the course of the weekend. Rain is set to be ever-present Saturday, it is set to be ever-present Sunday, and that’s probably on the more optimistic of forecasts considering what has happened in Tuscany earlier in the week. ...........................

In a clear sign of solidarity with Tuscany, Fiorentina ultras from the Curva Fiesole have asked officials that Sunday night’s matchup be postponed. ...........................

Allegri: Juventus playing Fiorentina is always exciting

Coach’s comments as game scheduled to go on despite heavy flooding in the Tuscan region

Juventus Training Session

Juventus travel to Florence to take on Fiorentina on Sunday with both sides attempting to cement their European credentials. There is still a doubt that the game will go on given the flooding in the Tuscany region that has led to deaths and damage as a result of Storm Ciaran.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference coach Massimiliano Allegri started off with his condolences.

“I just wanted to express my condolences to the families of the victims of the flood in Tuscany and the condolences to the people who have suffered damage and inconvenience. I think it’s much more important than the match.” ................

“It’s always a good match due to the teasing between the two teams, especially the two fanbases. Playing in Florence is always exciting, we will find a strong team even if they come from two defeats.

“They’re one of the best equipped teams in the league because they have a good squad with technical and physical players. I believe they are a rival in the fight for the top four places, this year they have set up a really excellent team.

“They have Kouamé on the left, Bonaventura who is doing extraordinary things, Arthur, who I had no doubt about, has recovered well from the injury and is doing very well. We know that It will be a very difficult match against a technically very good team.”

“We’re a Juve that have alternated good games with less good ones, also depending on the opponent. We work every day to grow and build a solid and strong team.

“We have to improve the scoring percentage, on this we need to improve in finishing and team effectiveness. Our strength must be that of being united between now and the end of the season.” .........

Fiorentina vs Juventus Preview: Probable Lineups, Prediction, Tactics, Team News & Key Stats

Link Live Streaming Pertandingan Liga Italia: Fiorentina Vs Juventus - Dunia Bola.com

Juventus have scored just 16 goals in Serie A this season, the least of the sides currently occupying the top five spots in the league. However, they have conceded a mere six goals, with the defence holding fast.

In fact, Juventus have kept seven clean sheets in their opening ten games, more than they have ever managed before at this stage of the campaign. Fiorentina will need to be at their clinical best to get the better of their vaunted opponents. ............

Team News & Tactics

ACF Fiorentina

Fiorentina are coming off a frustrating loss to Lazio but should be fired up to face arch-rivals Juventus. Both teams played out a 1-1 draw last season in the corresponding fixture that also saw Luka Jovic miss a penalty.

The home side will be keen to put the record straight this time and will also want to snap their two game losing streak. A victory against Juventus will not just give them bragging rights but also momentum that can be built upon.

More so, Fiorentina will also welcome former duo Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa to the Artemio Franchi Stadium. Both players should expect a very ‘generous’ welcome from the Viola faithful. The duo could start upfront against their former side. ............

Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1): Terracciano; Parisi, Martinez Quarta, Milenkovic, Biraghi; Duncan, Arthur; Gonzalez, Bonaventura, Ikone; Beltran

Juventus

Massimiliano Allegri is dealing with several injuries in his roster, and he deserves credit for ensuring Juventus stay in the hunt for a first Scudetto in four years.

Defensive solidity forms the foundations of the Bianconeri’s fortunes and so far, they have gotten off to a fine start this season. With just two points separating them from league leaders Inter Milan heading into the weekend, one could argue that the Turin giants are back in contention. ............

The visitors are likely to line up in a 5-3-2 formation, with Wojciech Szczesny in goal. He will be protected by the centre-back trio of Federico Gatti, Gleison Bremer and Daniele Rugani.

Filip Kostic and Andrea Cambiaso should provide the width from the wing-back positions. The duo will also be expected to drop deeper and form a back five should Fiorentina seize the initiative.

The midfield trio of Fabio Miretti, Manuel Locatelli and Adrien Rabiot will hope to set the narrative in the middle of the park and dictate the tone of the game. Former Fiorentina duo Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic will start upfront and will hope to silence their former supporters on the night.

Probable Lineup (5-3-2): Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Rugani; Cambiaso, Miretti, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Chiesa, Vlahovic

Key Stats

  • Juventus have defeated Fiorentina 80 times in Serie A so far. La Viola have not experienced more league defeats to any other side in the Italian top flight.
  • Fiorentina are unbeaten in their last four home games against Juventus in  Serie A. This is their longest such run since a 10 match streak from 1983-1992.
  • A scoreless loss on the night will see Fiorentina lose three consecutive games without finding the back of the net for the first time since 2019.
  • A scoreless night out will see Fiorentina go two consecutive home games without scoring for the first time since 2019.
  • Juventus have kept seven clean sheets in their opening 10 Serie A games this season, their bets such start in history.

Player to Watch

Dusan Vlahovic

The former Fiorentina man has not hit the same numbers at Juventus but remains the visitors ace striker on the night. ............

Prediction

Fiorentina 1-1 Juventus

With neither side really hitting the zenith of attacking nous, it promises to be a closely-fought contest with few goals in between. There should be no love lost between the arch-rivals and the game is likely to be a heated encounter.

Official: Fiorentina vs Juventus to be played tonight despite calls for postponement

Kijk Fiorentina - Juventus Live Stream | DAZN BE

In the last few days, several regions in Italy have been ravaged by floods. Tuscany has been the most affected area in the country, putting tonight’s encounter between Fiorentina and Juventus at risk.

Many people have been calling for the postponement of the encounter, arguing that the circumstances are far from perfect for the match to go on as normal.

At least six persons have lost their lives in the Italian peninsula, while thousands have been affected by the heavy rainstorm. ...........

The committee argues that there’s no viable reason to delay the encounter.

“Concerning the Fiorentina-Juventus football match scheduled for this evening at the Artemio Franchi stadium in Florence, L’Osservatorio on sporting events of the Department of Public Security, having taken note of the decisions of the Football League of Serie A and having consulted the Provincial Public Security Authorities of Florence, has assessed that from the point of view of public order and security, which falls within the competence of the body and of the Public Security Authorities themselves, there are no reasons for imposing a ban and therefore postpone the match to another date” ...........

Juventus Narrowly Beat Fiorentina – Is Max Allegri Tactical Genius or ‘Football Killer’

allegri2.jpg

Juventus squeaked past Fiorentina 1-0 at the Artemio Franchi to return within a two-point distance of Serie A leaders Inter. After several dreadful campaigns, the Turin heavyweights are back in the Scudetto frame, though football enthusiasts can hardly agree with Massimiliano Allegri’s style.

It’s no secret that Allegri cannot care less about the beauty of the game, which often puts him in the crosshairs of Juventus fans. Keeping a clean sheet is more important to him than scoring goals, even though it is the essence of football. But that’s his view, and he is entitled to it.

However, if you ask Juventus supporters, they’d probably slam the door shut on Allegri’s exit and make sure he doesn’t come back. For years, Allegri has been accused of ‘shooting football in the head,’ but he has somehow persuaded the board to let him carry on with his controversial football philosophy. ...............

Juventus opened the scoring from their only chance in the first half and vanished from the opposition half. And it’s not a figure of speech. Excluding Federico Chiesa’s shot from an offside position, Fabio Miretti’s goal was the visitors’ only attempt in 90 minutes before Andrea Cambiaso’s header in stoppages.

Everyone, including Moise Kean and Chiesa, dropped deep back to help Juventus protect their slender lead. So often, Bianconeri had eight or nine players back in their box, trying to fend off Vincenzo Italiano’s men. Fiorentina dominated proceedings from top to bottom, enjoying 68% ball possession and making 25 attempts. ...............

Match report – Dogged Juventus hold out for important win

_J013654

It is safe to say that Max Allegri has found a winning formula at Juventus, as his Bianconeri team earned their fourth straight win in their match against Fiorentina tonight.

Juve came into the game on the back of five consecutive clean sheets, extending that record to six, along with four wins in a row. Fiorentina had lost back-to-back Serie A games and were eager to return to form in the match, making them solid opponents.

Juve got down to business in this game, and Fabio Miretti opened the scoring for them after ten minutes. It seemed like one of those matches where the Bianconeri would score many goals, but Fiorentina had other ideas. ................

Juve’s newfound defensive solidity was on display as they intercepted every ball and blocked every shot from La Viola.

Fiorentina had 68% possession and four shots on goal, but Juve stood firm, with La Viola also having ten shots blocked. The second half was more about Juventus’ defensive ability, even though they missed at least one chance to secure the game. ................

Once again, Juve proved to be too tough to break down at the back, and this could be a Scudetto-winning season.

Juventus Player Ratings vs Fiorentina: Miretti Breaks His Duck

3820433-77641588-2560-1440-e1699222584361.jpg

Juventus (3-5-2)

Wojciech Szczesny – 7

The former Arsenal man made three brilliant saves to earn his sixth clean sheet in a row. His heroics included denying Nico Gonzalez’s low drive and a dipping freekick from Cristiano Biraghi.

Federico Gatti – 6 .............

Gleison Bremer – 7.5

A formidable showing from the Brazilian defender who was rock solid at the back. Bullied Lucas Beltran out of the match before having the best of M’Bala Nzola. No opponent stood a chance against him in the air.

Daniele Rugani – 7

Another convincing display from the former Empoli man who pulled off a perfectly timed clearance to prevent Nzola from heading home.

Weston McKennie – 7 .............

Fabio Miretti – 6.5

The young Juventus midfielder finally broke his duck for the senior team, scoring a close-range opener. He looked lively and dangerous in the final third but still needs to be more composed in possession.

Manuel Locatelli – 7 .............

Adrien Rabiot – 7 .............

Filip Kostic – 7 .............

Federico Chiesa – 5.5

It wasn’t a memorable return to Tuscany for the Euro 2020 winner who was rarely involved. Juventus dropping back and sitting deep surely didn’t help his case.

Moise Kean – 6

The former Everton man was one of several Juventus players involved in Miretti’s goal. With his team starving for possession, he didn’t have many opportunities to stride forward, but still threatened the opposition with a few decent runs.

Substitutes

Andrea Cambiaso – 6

A fruitful outing for last weekend’s hero who played as a left-central midfielder. .............

Dusan Vlahovic – 5.5

The Serbian was wasteful with the ball at his feet and couldn’t connect with Milik’s cross.

Arkadiusz Milik – 6 .............

Max Allegri Offers His Assessment of Juventus Win at Fiorentina

allegri.jpg

It’s unfathomable how Juventus endured a siege at the Artemio Franchi to topple Fiorentina 1-0 in Sunday’s mouth-watering Serie A clash. Wojciech Szczesny’s heroics between the sticks and the team’s collective effort helped Bianconeri survive 25 attempts on goal and walk away with a seventh clean sheet in 11 league matches this season.

Despite having just 30% of the ball and barely crafting any dangerous move on the Fiorentina half, other than Fabio Miretti’s 10th-minute deadlock-breaker, Juventus scooped up their first league victory in Tuscany in almost five years. Most of the credit goes to their stubborn defense.

Juventus completely relinquished their attacking aspirations since going up in the early stages. However, they forged a wall in front of Szczesny’s goal to eke out another classic ‘Massimiliano Allegri’ win. Bianconeri ‘parked the bus’ and successfully managed to frustrate Fiorentina for the rest of the game to make it four league wins on the trot. ..............

Fiorentina are always complicated to play against, as they attack, they move around, but the lads put in a great performance,” the Juventus manager told DAZN. “We scored the goal, suffered more in the first half, in the second Szczesny didn’t have to make a single save, despite all the crosses.“ ..............

Juventus 1 - Fiorentina 0: Initial reaction and random observations

Old school beat new school and Juventus recorded yet another shutout victory in the process. Could be worse!

Fiorentina Vs Juventus 0-1, Fabio Miretti Jadi Pahlawan Juventus, Berikut Sosok Fabio Selengkapnya - Suara Merdeka

Throughout the 2023-24, there have been a few times that Juventus manager Max Allegri has been asked about Fabio Miretti’s inability to convert chances in front of goal. His pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Florence was the latest of those instances, with Allegri giving a very direct and sussinct answer as to what has been going on with somebody who is still one of the youngest players in the league

“Where can Miretti improve? He needs to score,” Allegri told the assembled media. “It happens to lots of young players — he just needs to get off the mark.”

About 36 hours later, we can officially say that Miretti is, at long last, off the mark.

In one of the most corto muso matches that will ever corto muso, Miretti’s 10th-minute goal capped an absolutely fantastic team movement from one end of the field to the other and proved to be the only goal in Juventus’ third straight 1-0 win to come out of the October international break. Sunday night’s win over Fiorentina was much like the win over Milan two weeks ago rather than last weekend’s showing against Hellas Verona, with Juventus sitting back and defending like hell once they got said lead through Miretti ... and then defending some more ... and then defending some more. ..............

The final numbers were crazy at first glance ...

  • Fiorentina outshot Juventus 25-4
  • Fiorentina had a 68-32 advantage in possession
  • Fiorentina had twice as many corners (8) as Juventus had total shots (4).

I could really go on and on and on, but I will stop there. This was new school vs. old school and the man who is very much old school and defense-first no matter what proved to be the one who won out. And when you had a defense playing like Juve’s did — bending but not breaking — it simply became harder and harder to see Fiorentina breaking through with every cross that met the forehead of a Juventus player. ..............

Allegri put massive faith in his defense once Miretti found the back of the net and the defense delivered. They’ve now recorded five straight shutouts ever since the disaster that was the 4-2 loss to Sassuolo. They’re closing in on 600 minutes of game time without a goal allowed. The manager who wants to build his team on the back of a strong defense is getting exactly that from his team despite his captain and one of most consistent performers the last 2 12 years being out injured.

It wasn’t pretty at times against Fiorentina, but when you defend like Juventus did Sunday night, you’re going to have a chance. Is a super-low block and very defensive mindset the way forward and something that will get Juventus to status of true contenders? I am not totally sure because the last few years have been tough to believe it, but right now it’s working. ..............

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • I am so happy for Fabio Miretti. Just so, so happy. Hopefully seeing that first goal happen can be something that fills him with confidence and he can start a nice run of form. At the very least, we know he’s going to get plenty of chances knowing who is currently not available in midfield. ..............
  • That big pre-game hug between Arthur and Allegri was something I was not expecting.
  • Twenty minutes in and Fiorentina had nearly 70 percent of the possession. But then you look at the scoreboard and ha ha ha ha ha it was a much better situation. ..............
  • Juventus attempted nearly three times fewer the amount of passes as Fiorentina with 105 in the opening half. They completed just 69 of them. I don’t know if that’s actually nice, but it just shows you how little they had of the ball. And when they did have the ball, how clearly unable they were of holding onto it even when they were on the counterattack. ..............
  • Federico Chiesa touched the ball five times in the first half.
  • Chiesa finished with 10 touches during his 66 minutes on the field. If Chiesa receives any sort of criticism for how he played, I’m not here for it. This game was never going to be one in which he was ever going to be anywhere close to involved in — especially after Juve got the early goal. He was 100 percent a victim of Allegri’s tactical decisions Sunday night.  ..............
  • Bremer had 13 — let me repeat that: THIRTEEN! — clearances when it was all said and done.
  • Daniele Rugani, who has been low-key great since coming into the starting lineup for the injured Danilo, had 11 clearances and this is the start of the campaign to get him a call-up to the Italian national team next weekend. Come on, Spalletti, you know you want to.
  • RUGANI IN NAZIONALE OR WE RIOT! ..............
  • Take care of business against Cagliari next weekend and Juve will go into the Derby d’Italia in no worse than a comfortable second-place standing. If Matias Soulé and them boys at Frosinone do something wild and get a result against Inter next weekend and maybe Juve’s atop the table. You don’t want to get too far ahead of yourself, but it’s possible ... right?

Juve park the bus after Miretti’s early goal to top Fiorentina

ACF Fiorentina v Juventus FC - Serie A Tim

...........

Action was scarce in a 90-minute grind that saw Juve take the lead early through Fabio Miretti’s first-ever senior level goal and then refuse to move forward for the entire rest of the match. Fiorentina ended up with 68 percent possession — 73 percent in the first half — and outshot Juve 25-4. They had more corner kicks than Juve had shots. Three Juventus players had double-digit clearances, and all but two of the starters had two or more.

This was a straight rearguard action against a team whose defense isn’t particularly great. Massimiliano Allegri choosing this way to go isn’t a surprise anymore, but the complete lack of ambition after the goal ... well, we’ll get to that when we get to it later on in this piece. Juve’s 1-0 win is, ultimately, what matters — at least from a sporting perspective. But it came yet again with an attitude that is concerning. ...........

It was apparent within five minutes that Allegri’s plan was to hunker down and absorb pressure. In the eighth minute, we got to see the rather comical sight of Arthur loading up after a corner kick was headed out to him and he proceeded to completely shank a long-range shot that dribbled out for a goal kick.

Two minutes later, Juve broke open the score.

The goal came on what was probably the only real piece of team passing all day. Once it was finally sent into the Fiorentina half the play was broken open by an excellent layoff pass from Kean to Rabiot, who charged through the middle of the field. His rolled pass to Kostic on the left might have been ripe for an interception, but Parisi misjudged it, allowing the Serb to continue downfield and send in a low cross that was met by Miretti in the left channel, who struck it hard enough to beat Terracciano at the near post. ...........

ACF Fiorentina v Juventus - Serie A TIM

Juve immediately dropped back into what can only be called a siege mentality.

There was little in the way of ambition to go forward the rest of the night, as Allegri hunkered down for 80 minutes to protect Miretti’s goal. ...........

By the end of the night, Fiorentina had put an astonishing 50 crosses into the box, but had only connected with a teammate on five of them. It got to the point where it became clear Italiano’s team had no other ideas. Even the one time they managed a shot on target in the second half, it was right at Szczesny for an easy save. ...........

LE PAGELLE

WOJCIECH SZCZESNY - 8. Made two really good saves in the first half and completely controlled the box throughout the match. Goalkeepers and their ability to marshal a defense are often overlooked in games like this — it’s what made Gigi Buffon so much better than the rest — and Szczesny was excellent there too, making sure no one was out of place.

FEDERICO GATTI - 7. We’re going to have a parade of players with absurd clearance stats, starting with Gatti on nine. He also blocked three shots, and generally did a good job in the low block. His one misstep came late when he let Sottil beat him for pace, but he got picked up by his teammate behind him.

BREMER - 8. Immense. Simply immense. He made 13 clearances in this match, also being credited with an interception and two blocked shots. Anytime the ball was in the air in the box, he was usually the one to head it away. Performances like this are why he deserves the number he’s inherited.

ACF Fiorentina v Juventus - Serie A TIM

DANIELE RUGANI - 8. Eleven clearances — 11! — and made perhaps one of the most important defensive interventions of the game when he took the ball off of Ikoné’s head. He is playing some of the best football of his career, and it couldn’t come at a better time with Danilo still out injured.

WESTON McKENNIE - 7.5. ...........

FABIO MIRETTI - 7. Converted his first career goal with aplomb, and proved to be one of the only people in a Juve kit to be able to dribble through Fiorentina. I’m just so happy he finally has his goal after being so unlucky for so long.

MANUEL LOCATELLI - 8. Made 10 clearances and was constantly disrupting Fiorentina’s crosses and occasional runs through the middle. ...........

ADRIEN RABIOT - 6.5. ...........

FILIP KOSTIC - 6. ...........

FEDERICO CHIESA - 5. All he could do for most of the game was stand there waiting for some kind of offensive ball to come to him.

MOISE KEAN - 6. Didn’t get too close to goal but played a key role in the opener with an excellent layoff to Rabiot. He’s playing very well at the moment, he just doesn’t have the goals to show for it.

SUBS

ANDREA CAMBIASO - 5.5. ...........

DUSAN VLAHOVIC - 5. ...........

ARKADIUSZ MILIK - 5.5. ...........

MANAGER ANALYSIS

Max is gonna do how Max do.

Unfortunately, how Max do is a far cry from how Mad Max did back in the day. Allegri had zero ambition to go after a second goal after Miretti scored, instead chosing to dance on a knife’s edge for 80-plus minutes while Fiorentina tried to break Juve down.

They ended up unable to do so, but that doesn’t mean Allegri played this properly. ........... For another, a goal at any point during the second half would probably have finished the game. Juve showed either a lack of ambition or a lack of nerve in terms of going forward, and that attitude, while successful Sunday night, may not be when Juve face better teams.

ACF Fiorentina v Juventus - Serie A TIM

The main point of contention I have with Allegri here is just how deep the team was defending. The team as a whole was so far back that the strikers were often only 30 yards from their own box. That makes it next to impossible to properly trigger a counter, given that the player trying to break out will be swarmed, needing to break through multiple waves of opponents just to have the opportunity to get the ball forward.

Playing on the counter is fine, especially given that Juve doesn’t exactly have a player who can break down a block, so attacking on the break is probably their best way to generate offense (unless they can come up with more moves like we saw in Florence!). But to take it to such an extreme as we saw against Fiorentina makes it more difficult for the team to actually get out on the counter, and that leaves you with an absurdly thin margin of error. If Juve make a single mistake, we’re talking about how they dropped points. ........... Against a team like Inter in a few weeks, this defensive performance may not happen. Juve need to have the freedom to get forward a little bit more and score some insurance goals, otherwise they may face a situation where they have to spend excessive stretches of the season being perfect, that and their luck will not hold out all year.

LOOKING AHEAD

Juve have a home tilt with Cagliari on Saturday before the international break starts Sunday. After the internationals, it’s the biggest crunch time of the year so far as league-leading Inter come sauntering into the Allianz in what may well be a game for first place in Serie A.

Allegri: Juve must win games with suffering and good defending

Coach’s comments after the Bianconeri scrape out a 1-0 win at Fiorentina.

094202615-25d1cd7e-6ecf-4acf-8100-d88cc4c6bccc.jpg

........... Speaking after yet another ‘corto muso’ [by the nose] win, Allegri credited his side’s defending prowess. ...........

“We scored the goal, suffered more in the first half, in the second Szczesny didn’t have to make a single save, despite all the crosses. The regret is that once we beat their first press, we didn’t make the most of those potential counter-attacking situations when the spaces opened up.

“Games must also be won with suffering, with good defending. We needed Kostic to go a little deeper to be on the same level as Rugani to block off Nico Gonzalez, which wasn’t done enough in the first half.

“Fiorentina played a very good game and we can only tip our hats to them. We defended remarkably well in the box and there was only really one risk, that Rugani clearance on the cross. It reminded me of one Andrea Barzagli made in Juventus-Genoa, taking it off the head of the striker behind him.

“Daniele was bound to struggle when he had Chiellini, Barzagli and Bonucci in front of him, but when he was called upon, he played well. He does better with Bremer next to him too. Rugani, Bremer and Gatti can defend in open ground, but they are learning to defend in the box better now too.” ...........

The Bianconeri are now comfortably sitting in second in the Serie A table, two points behind Inter Milan who they play after the next international break, and four clear of AC Milan in third, with the Rossoneri, Atalanta and Lazio also all losing.

“We must always look forwards, but that doesn’t mean the Scudetto. Inter, Milan and Napoli are better equipped, they are more consolidated, whereas we are creating a side with some young and inexperienced players. ...........
