Pirlo: 'Juve learn from Barca defeat'

3NqG9nSP?format=jpg&name=small

Nov 3, 2020

Andrea Pirlo maintains defeat to Barcelona can be ‘a good thing’ for Juventus and their development, as the trip to Ferencvaros ‘is also worth three points.’

It kicks off in Budapest on Wednesday at 20.00 GMT.

“Budapest is a beautiful city, I’d been here before and have fond memories of it,” said Pirlo in his press conference.

“We are here to play football and win the game. The defeat to Barcelona made us realise where we had to improve, that we need more determination and organisation to play at certain levels. Perhaps meeting Barca so early into the season was a good thing, as we’ll be in better shape when we visit them.”

Barca are top of the group now with six points, having beaten Ferencvaros 5-1, while the Hungarians also drew 2-2 at home with Dynamo Kiev.

“We studied Ferencvaros, they play good football and have a lot of character. They didn’t deserve to lose to heavily to Barcelona in the opener, while they did well against Dynamo Kiev. .......

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo will have veterans Cristiano Ronaldo and Giorgio Chiellini back in the starting line-up against Ferencvaros.

The match kicks off at 20.00 UK time.

Juventus travelled to Hungary with captain Chiellini back in contention to start with Leonardo Bonucci in the heart of the Old Lady defence.

Cristiano Ronaldo returned from coronavirus with a brace off the bench in the 4-1 win over Spezia in Serie A and should be in the starting line-up in Budapest.

The Bianconeri come from a 2-0 defeat to Barcelona last week but three points in Hungary will go a long way in helping Pirlo’s men to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition. .......

Nov 4, 2020

Cristiano Ronaldo and Giorgio Chiellini return to the starting XI for Juventus as they visit Ferencvaros in the Champions League, but Paulo Dybala is benched.

It kicks off in Budapest at 20.00 GMT.

The Bianconeri were still smarting after a 2-0 home defeat to Barcelona, although they got back on track with Sunday’s 4-1 win away to Spezia.

Notably, they were only 1-1 until Ronaldo made his comeback off the bench from three weeks out with COVID-19 and he immediately bagged a brace.

Ronaldo makes his Champions League return today, as does defender Chiellini, with Alvaro Morata and Federico Chiesa, sending Dybala and Dejan Kulusevski to the bench.

Matthijs de Ligt and Alex Sandro are still injured, with Merih Demiral suspended following his red card against Barcelona.

It is also more of a 4-4-2 than the 3-4-1-2 Andrea Pirlo has adopted so far, even though it does mutate depending on possession. .........

Ferencvaros: Dibusz; G Lovrencsics, Blazic, Dvali, Botka; Somalia, Kharatin, Siger; Zubkov, Isael, Nguen

Ferencvaros bench: Szecsi, Ori, Frimpong, Kovacevic, Mak, Baturina, Heister, Boli, Uzuni

Juventus: Szczesny; Cuadrado, Bonucci, Chiellini, Danilo; Ramsey, Arthur, Rabiot, Chiesa; Morata, Ronaldo

CL: Juventus put four past Ferencvaros

Immagine

Nov 4, 2020

Alvaro Morata bagged a brace before Paulo Dybala pounced on two shocking Ferencvaros defensive errors, as Juventus won 4-1 in Budapest.

It took just seven minutes for Juve to break the deadlock in rainy Budapest, as Juan Cuadrado burst down the right on to a Leonardo Bonucci pass and rolled it across the six-yard box, beyond Ronaldo, but ready for Alvaro Morata to tap in. ........

It should’ve been 2-0, but Morata tried to send Ronaldo through rather than go for goal himself, allowing Miha Blazic to make a sensational last-ditch tackle.

Rodrigo Bentancur replaced Arthur for the second half, reportedly due to a stomach complaint, and Aaron Ramsey followed soon after with another muscular injury. Ronaldo failed to make the most of Ferencvaros giving the ball away in the final third, as he dragged the angled drive off target with Morata waiting.

He learned from it, as moments later CR7 got down the right and rolled across the edge of the area, Weston McKennie let it through with a dummy and Morata swung the right boot to fire into the top corner.

Paulo Dybala came off the bench and immediately went for a lob off target, but was gifted his first goal of the season moments later. It was a catalogue of Ferencvaros errors, from the over-hit Blazic back-pass to clumsy Denes Dibusz attempt to get it under control, Dybala just had to deposit into an empty net.

Incredibly, the hosts then did the same thing again with another terrible back-pass, Dibusz doing even worse with his control, but this time Dybala’s finish got the final touch from Lasha Dvali’s acrobatic and failed attempts to clear off the line.

There was still time for Ferencvaros to get a consolation goal, as Wojciech Szczesny parried the first Frank Boli attempt with his knees from close range, but could do nothing on the rebound.

Pirlo: 'We could have done much better'

Pirlo unconvinced by Juventus performance in win - Black & White & Read All Over

Nov 4, 2020

Andrea Pirlo was ‘satisfied with the result, but not the performance’ against Ferencvaros and complained Juventus forwards were ‘too egotistical.’

The Bianconeri got back on track in Europe with a comfortable 4-1 win in Budapest, sealed by an Alvaro Morata brace, Paulo Dybala pouncing on two poor back-passes, and Franck Boli tapping in during the final minutes.

Barcelona beat Dynamo Kiev 2-1, so remain top of the group with nine points, followed by Juve on six, Dynamo and Ferencvaros just one.

“We’re satisfied with the result, but could’ve done much better in terms of the performance. We made a lot of mistakes down to complacency, so we need to improve,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Pirlo was asked by Fabio Capello if he’d have a word with his forwards, who tended to go for goal rather than pass to their teammates.

“I talk to my players a lot, but they make the choices when they are on the pitch. They could’ve been less egotistical and killed off the game earlier. .......

Voltallige selectie Lazio in quarantaine na nieuwe coronabesmettingen | NOS

Nov 6, 2020

As many as eight Lazio players missed training on Friday morning and there could potentially be a few absentees for their Serie A encounter with Juventus at Sunday lunchtime.

The Biancocelesti players had swabs taken at 9:00 am and training commenced one hour later but there were a few key players that did not participate in the training session.

TuttoMercatoWeb reports that Thomas Strakosha, Denis Vavro, Manuel Lazzari, Lucas Leiva, Gonzalo Escalante, Ciro Immobile, Djavan Anderson, and Luis Alberto were not present at training at 10:00 am and they are waiting for their results. .......

LAZIO WITH THREE CASES OF COVID AHEAD OF JUVENTUS MATCH

Lazio Juventus: le pagelle

Nov 6, 2020

Reports out of Italy state three Lazio players have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of their match with Juventus on Sunday.

Ciro Immobile, Lucas Leiva and Thomas Strakosha were prevented from travelling by UEFA ahead of the Aquile’s trip to Zenit St Petersburg in the Champions League on Wednesday, but questions continue from there.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Lazio underwent a further round of testing at the Campus Biomedico in Rome for the players that have been stopped by SynLab and UEFA, with three positive tests coming back. .......

Lazio have not confirmed the names of the positive players, though they did request a second round of tests which came back positive as well.

Lotito: 'What even is COVID positive?'

Salvo på Twitter: "Ci stanno lavorando. #lotito #JuventusTorino #LazioMilan… https://t.co/SIMu4f4dZO"

Nov 7, 2020

Lazio President Claudio Lotito gave a typically outlandish interview defending their interpretation of COVID-19 tests. ‘Bacteria doesn’t mean infectious.’

The controversy erupted when some of Lazio’s players – specifically Ciro Immobile, Lucas Leiva and Thomas Strakosha – tested positive for two consecutive UEFA Champions League games, but negative for the Serie A encounters with both Torino and Juventus.

There was further confusion on Friday when ‘rapid response’ tests in Rome’s laboratory came up positive, but the same tests were processed at a lab in Avellino and were negative.

“I told you, it’s like a magic trick, what even is positive?” Lotito said in an interview with La Repubblica newspaper.

“Positive means contagious, right? There are bacteria in the vaginas of all women in the world, that doesn’t mean they are pathogens. Only in some cases do they become pathogens and degenerate.” ........

Immobile, Strakosha and Leiva miss Juventus

Calciomercato, Ciro Immobile al Newcastle è solo una fantasia?

Nov 7, 2020

Ciro Immobile, Thomas Strakosha and Lucas Leiva left the Lazio training ground today, so seem to be out of tomorrow’s match with Juventus due to inconclusive COVID-19 tests.

According to Lalaziosiamonoi.it and Sport Mediaset, Immobile, Strakosha and Leiva were spotted leaving the training ground just before today’s session.

They had all tested positive for COVID-19 in the UEFA exams ahead of Champions League games against Club Brugge and Zenit, but negative for last week’s Serie A fixture with Torino.

There was confusion, as confirmed by Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi in today’s press conference, as to which of two different test results were accurate.

It seems as if the medical staff is erring on the side of caution, as all three left the training ground this afternoon. ........

Pirlo: 'Lazio game tough, but exciting'

Lazio-Juventus, Pirlo: "Partita difficile, ma entusiasmante da giocare" | StadioSport.it

Nov 7, 2020

Andrea Pirlo praises Alvaro Morata and is expecting a ‘tough, but exciting’ match for Juventus against Lazio on Sunday.

It kicks off on Sunday at 11.30 GMT, click here for a match preview.

“It’s certainly going to be a great game, because Lazio-Juventus is an enjoyable match to play,” Pirlo told JTV.

“It will also be difficult, as Lazio are a wonderful team and proved that in recent years, so it’s tough, but exciting. We imagined their classic 3-5-2 with a very tight defence. They are very good on the counter, especially with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as well as their forwards. This is why we must be wary of making technical errors that can spark those counters.” ........

HT 0-1: Ronaldo opens Lazio account

Nov 8, 2020

Cristiano Ronaldo scored one, hit the woodwork and forced a great save, as Juventus lead Lazio 1-0 at half-time, but Vedat Muriqi also came very close to an equaliser. ........

After a couple of attempts from distance with Cristiano Ronaldo and Adrien Rabiot, Juve broke the deadlock. Juan Cuadrado deserves much of the credit, having dribbled away from two players down the right to put a low cross in for Ronaldo to bundle over the line.

Ronaldo thought he’d doubled his lead on another counter, but this time the curling finish smacked against the top of the far post.

CR7 came even closer with the last move of the half, as his free kick from the edge of the area was palmed out from under the bar by Pepe Reina.

Ronaldo was replaced by Paulo Dybala after an ankle sprain and Lazio had another big chance when Marusic got in front of Cuadrado for a header straight at Wojciech Szczesny from point-blank range.

The hosts began to pin Juve back in the closing 20 minutes, and the team famous for last-gasp goals did it again. With the final kick of the game, Correa squirmed away between three players in the box to feed Felipe Caicedo, who turned on a sixpence to fire into the far bottom corner.

Lazio: Reina; Luiz Felipe, Acerbi, Radu (Hoedt 54); Marusic, Milinkovic-Savic, Cataldi (Akpa Akpro 76), Luis Alberto (Pereira 76), Fares (Lazzari 54); Muriqi (Caicedo 54), Correa

Juventus: Szczesny; Demiral, Bonucci, Danilo; Cuadrado, Bentancur, Rabiot, Frabotta; Kulusevski (McKennie 75); Morata (Bernardeschi 88), Ronaldo (Dybala 75)

Pirlo: ‘Details win championships’

Juventus geeft zege bij Lazio in extremis weg, Ronaldo valt geblesseerd uit | NU - Het laatste nieuws het eerst op NU.nl

Nov 8, 2020

Andrea Pirlo said attention to details is crucial to winning championships after Juventus’ 1-1 draw against Lazio.

The Biancocelesti scored a late equalizer with Felipe Caicedo.

“We played a great game, they never had a shot on target,” Pirlo told DAZN.

“Championships are won if we take care of every detail, we mismanaged the ball in the final ten seconds and they scored the equalizer.

“The head is the most important thing, if you go on the pitch with a not positive attitude you do bad performances. Too bad for the result we deserved more,” he added.

“We lack malice and desire to achieve these results, there were no signs we would allow a goal, we have to give something more.” ........

Napoli appeal verdict postponed

Juventus-Napoli, il giudice sportivo ha deciso: 3-0 a tavolino e -1 per gli azzurri (UFFICIALE)

Nov 9, 2020

The appeal verdicts concerning Juventus-Napoli and Verona-Roma have been postponed, reports in Italy claim.

Both the Giallorossi and the Azzurri had lodged appeal against their 3-0 defeat by default against Verona and Juventus respectively.

Napoli had been handed a 3-0 by defeat by default against Juventus and docked one point as they didn’t show up to face the Old Lady after two Covid cases emerged in their team in October. The Disciplinary Commission ruled the Partenopei didn’t follow the COVID-19 protocol.

"The proceedings of the appeals submitted to the National Sports Court of Appeal by Napoli and Roma are concluded,” FIGC explained in an official statement. ........

“The two judges, Piero Sandulli and Lorenzo Attolico, are gathered in the Chamber of Council and the results will be announced at the end of the works.”

According to Sky Sport, the verdicts could arrive tomorrow or in the following days.

Pirlo: 'Transitional period is over'

Immagine

Nov 20, 2020

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo stressed 'the transitional period is over’ for the Bianconeri and revealed Matthijs de Ligt could start against Cagliari.

The Old Lady replaced Maurizio Sarri with Andrea Pirlo and, despite an unbeaten run in Serie A, the new coach said his players should have adapted to the new style and stressed ‘our championship must start now’.

The players returned from a positive national break and Pirlo said some of his fringe players might have gained confidence during the last two weeks.

“I don’t know if it’s our merit, they are definitely strong players,” Pirlo said at a press conference.

“Maybe some had played a little less in recent weeks and it did them well playing for the national team, to gain confidence and pace.

“We are happy they are back with great desire and that they are now ready to play.”

Pirlo said the game against Cagliari is ‘fundamental’ for the Old Lady’s ‘growth’ and reminded his players that the transitional period is now over.

“It’s a fundamental game. We come from inactivity due to the national teams, but we need it for our growth.

“Now, our championship must start, the adaptation period is over, and we will have 10 games to play as if they were Finals until Christmas. ........

Line-ups: Juventus v Cagliari

Nov 21, 2020

Juventus are forced to completely revamp their defence with Matthijs de Ligt’s first appearance of the season, while Cagliari also have to make changes.

The Bianconeri have struggled so far in Serie A under new coach Andrea Pirlo, having drawn four of their last six games on the pitch.

He is forced to transform his defence, because Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and Aaron Ramsey are injured, so De Ligt is rushed into his comeback.

This is the Dutchman’s first appearance since he has surgery to stabilise a dislocated shoulder in August.

It’s also a rare start for Turkish international Merih Demiral, with Danilo completing the defence.

Dejan Kulusevski gets the nod rather than Federico Chiesa, while Paulo Dybala is again benched for Alvaro Morata and Cristiano Ronaldo. ........

HT 2-0: Ronaldo double inspires Juve

Immagine

Nov 21, 2020

Federico Bernardeschi had a goal ruled offside before Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a quick brace to give Juventus the 2-0 lead over Cagliari.

The Bianconeri were forced to revamp their defence, as Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Aaron Ramsey injured, so Matthijs de Ligt was rushed back for his first game since shoulder surgery in August and Juan Cuadrado was made captain. The Sardinians lost Diego Godin to COVID-19, Nahitan Nandez was isolating as a precaution, Luca Ceppitelli, Paolo Faragò and Charalampos Lykogiannis injured. .........

Juventus finally made the pressure count, as Ronaldo cut inside from the left and fired a right-foot rocket into the far bottom corner. The assist was provided by Morata.

Moments later, it was 2-0 for the Bianconeri and Ronaldo was on target yet again. A corner was flicked on by Merih Demiral to the back post, it was slightly behind Ronaldo, so he improvised by leaning his leg back to flick it in from seven yards.

Juventus 2-0 Cagliari: Ronaldo at the double

Cristiano Ronaldo showed quick reactions to score two goals just before half-time, giving Juventus a confidence-boosting 2-0 win over Cagliari.

Federico Bernardeschi fired in at the end of a wonderful team move on 12 minutes, but it was disallowed because Alvaro Morata was offside on the assist.

Cuadrado laid off a ball for Dejan Kulusevski to fire inches wide of the far post, while Bernardeschi’s first-time strike was straight at Alessio Cragno.

Juventus finally made the pressure count, as Ronaldo cut inside from the left and fired a right-foot rocket into the far bottom corner. The assist was provided by Morata.

Moments later, it was 2-0 for the Bianconeri and Ronaldo was on target yet again. A corner was flicked on by Merih Demiral to the back post, it was slightly behind Ronaldo, so he improvised by leaning his leg back to flick it in from seven yards. ............

Pirlo: 'Juventus must dominate the game'

214012176-f5a327ed-9ad1-4250-beb8-d772c8

Nov 21, 2020

Andrea Pirlo explains why Juventus should focus on ‘dominating the game’ after their 2-0 victory over Cagliari. ‘You have to move the ball rapidly from side to side.’

The Bianconeri kept only their second Serie A clean sheet of the season, as Cristiano Ronaldo bagged both goals just before half-time.

Federico Bernardeschi and Cagliari’s Ragnar Klavan also hit the back of the net, but their goals were ruled offside.

“The players may change, but our style of football must remain the same,” Pirlo told DAZN.

“We did very well to control the game in the first half especially, so we needed a performance like this to boost the confidence and self-belief of the team.

“When you come back from international duty, it’s always tough to focus, but we did well to maintain the right spirit from the very beginning.

“We’ve got many players in the squad who can change the game by going on the counter, although there needs to be a balance, as otherwise we risk getting stretched out.” .........

Pirlo: ‘Let's qualify’

La conferenza stampa di Rebrov e Isael pre Juve-Ferencvaros - Juventus

Nov 23, 2020

Andrea Pirlo has said Paulo Dybala can play with Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata and revealed why he treats CR7 'like Frabotta or Portanova'.

The Old Lady face the Hungarians tomorrow in Champions League and a win could allow the Bianconeri to qualify for the last-16 stage with two match in hand, provided Dynamo Kiev don’t beat Barcelona.

Juve won against Cagliari 2-0 in Saturday.

“We must continue our path, we did nothing on Saturday, it was only a good game, we must have continuity or we would not be a big team, we are Juventus,” Pirlo said at a press conference attended by Football Italia.

“We must go onto the pitch like it was a final, we need a win to earn the qualification [for the last-16 stage].

“We must make it to let other players rest in the next games,” he continued.

“We could then have two games against Dynamo Kiev and Barcelona to play in a different way and we could focus on the league [if we qualify].

“We had done other good performances before the Cagliari clash but we had the right approach on Saturday.

“Now the players know each other better, it took time to assimilate what we do during the week, we’ll try to improve.

“We know Ferencvaros’s strengths. We don’t have to see the result of the first game, we know they play a good football, we must face them as we know. It’s going to be a decisive game for the qualification. .......
