Oct 3, 2020 Napoli are blocked from travelling to Turin, so it looks as if tomorrow night’s game with Juventus will be postponed, but what happens now and who decides? The situation arose because Napoli registered two COVID-19 cases among their players – Piotr Zielinski and Eljif Elmas – plus a member of staff after their 6-0 win over Genoa last Sunday. Genoa have since registered 22 cases in the matchday squad, including 17 players, most of which played against Napoli. Considering the close contact Napoli had with such a serious outbreak, the ASL local health authority has banned them from travelling outside the region to Turin. That would have to be by plane and it is considered an unacceptable health risk, as COVID-19 has a long incubation period, so people can have it for several days without any symptoms or positive tests. The Lega Serie A has adopted the UEFA protocol for dealing with COVID outbreaks, specifically that as long as a team has 13 players available including at least one goalkeeper, the match must go ahead. In theory, that would see Napoli forfeit the game with a 3-0 defeat. ...... Continue -> https://bit.ly/2HTvyHA Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

A battle royal is erupting around protocol, rules and regulations, immediately putting this first post-COVID Serie A season to the test. Sunday’s evening match at the Juventus Allianz Stadium has not formally been postponed yet, even though Napoli have been banned from travelling to Turin as planned this evening. The Lega Serie A protocol for COVID cases is the same as the UEFA rules, so if a team has 13 available players including at least one goalkeeper, then the game can go ahead. The Partenopei were unable to leave Napoli after the local health authority refused the team permission following two positive coronavirus cases within the squad, thus resulting in the club asking for the game to be postponed. Juventus declared that they would take to the field as normal, with Lega Serie A releasing a statement indicating that Napoli had no grounds for a postponement given there were only two positive coronavirus cases among the Napoli squad. “There are very clear protocols for these situations,” Agnelli told Sky Sport Italia. “It was expected that a situation like this would come up. ...... Agnelli also confirmed that he had been in contact with his Napoli counterpart Aurelio De Laurentiis. “We sent each other a message, he wrote to me,” Agnelli said. “I replied that Juventus follow the regulations. “He wanted to postpone the game, a request that may be legitimate. It was never played because the Partenopei didn’t make the trip to Turin, insisting they had been ordered not to travel by the local ASL health authority due to the risk of COVID-19 contagion. The Lega Serie A and Juventus felt there was insufficient evidence for the ASL to over-rule the existing protocol, as only two Napoli players had tested positive. Napoli did not make the trip to Turin for the Serie A Week 3 fixture on October 4 because they had two players test positive for COVID-19, Piotr Zielinski and Eljif Elmas. The club argued it had been banned from travelling by the local ASL (health authority), which urged the team to self-isolate as a precaution. Juve and the Lega Serie A pointed out this had been taken into account by the existing COVID-19 protocol accepted by all the clubs before the season began and two cases did not warrant pulling out of the match.
