Pirlo defines Juve tactical versatility

Dynamo Kiev-Juve, Pirlo soddisfatto: "Squadra solida, Dybala non al top"

Oct 20, 2020

Andrea Pirlo explains his tactical adjustments to Juventus after a 2-0 victory at Dynamo Kiev, including the versatility of Federico Chiesa and Dejan Kulusevski.

The Bianconeri got off to an ideal Champions League start, winning 2-0 away to Dynamo Kiev thanks to a pair of Alvaro Morata goals.

“It was important to put in a more solid performance compared to Crotone,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia, referring to Saturday’s 1-1 Serie A draw.

“We were able to try a few things on Monday and were more organised this evening. We could’ve made more of some of the first half chances, but controlled the game well after taking the lead.” .......

“Chiellini had this muscular twinge in the flexor. He already felt it after international duty, so was rested against Crotone. We’ll evaluate it now.”

Chiesa impressed on the left wing, with Cuadrado on the right, although as always with Pirlo, tactical systems are in a constant state of flux.

“What I wanted was to have many players going into attack. Chiesa can play on either flank, Kulusevski or Aaron Ramsey can play as a trequartista behind a striker.

“Let’s not forget we have Cristiano Ronaldo out and Paulo Dybala is not in good shape, so the attacking structure can change, but the players are in the right positions.

“Chiesa is suited to what we wanted to do. He isn’t meant to be a fifth midfielder, but a wide attacker, while when defending he becomes a fourth midfielder. He can play on either side and does it very well.”

Dybala came off the bench for his season debut, but looked rusty.

“You could tell he was not 100 per cent tonight, he needs to play in order to slowly get back into shape.”

Lippi: 'I'm done coaching'

Lippi to leave China's national team after Asian Cup - BeSoccer

Oct 22, 2020

Former Italy CT and World Cup winner Marcello Lippi has revealed he has coached for the last time. ‘I’m definitely done with coaching’.

Lippi’s has been without a job since he let the position as China CT in November 2019 and leaves a 30-year-long career in the dugout.

He started as the U19 coach at Sampdoria and has memorable spells with Atalanta, Napoli, Inter and Juventus before he became the Azzurri CT in July 2004. .......

Pjanic: 'Sarri didn't trust Juve players'

Cristiano Ronaldo says Maurizio Sarri was right to substitute him twice ▷ Tuko.co.ke

Oct 24, 2020

Miralem Pjanic made an astonishing revelation about the extent of the discord at Juventus last season. ‘Maurizio Sarri didn’t trust his men' and 'doubted' their professionalism.

The Bianconeri won the Scudetto, but lost the Finals of the Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup, crashing out of the Champions League against Olympique Lyonnais in the Round of 16.

The coach was fired, with President Andrea Agnelli explaining there was no ‘alchemy’ between Sarri and his squad, but Pjanic reveals just how bad the situation was.

Pjanic: “What still disappoints me to this day is that Sarri didn’t trust his men and that disturbed me”.

“The way he misjudged people remains the worst aspect, because every player in that locker room has always and will always give their all for the club and team.

“You might not get along with one or two, but that has never affected our efforts, because every player wants to win, because they are incredible professionals who want to pursue their objective.

“So, if a coach puts that into doubt, it means you don’t have that alchemy that the President talked about.” .......

Pirlo: 'Dybala starts, Morata no surprise'

Pirlo-2010-hmm-epa_0.jpg

Oct 24, 2020

Andrea Pirlo confirms Paulo Dybala will start for Juventus against Hellas Verona tomorrow and he’s not surprised by Alvaro Morata. ‘That’s why we signed him.’

It kicks off on Sunday at 19.45 GMT, click here for a match preview.

“We had time to rest after the trip to Dynamo Kiev, so apart from Giorgio Chiellini, everyone else is available,” said Pirlo in his press conference.

“As of last night, I had no news on Cristiano Ronaldo’s COVID status. We all had swabs this morning, including Ronaldo at home. Alex Sandro is on his way towards a full recovery, but I think it’ll be after the break for international duty.

“I can confirm Dybala will start tomorrow. He had the right progress in training and it’s only fair now that he starts the match. I always said it was an issue of time, as he had the injury, then a virus on international duty. The two times he was on the bench without coming on, it was because we’d gone down to 10 men. He played in Kiev as a substitute, it’s only right that he starts tomorrow.” .......

The Juventus Lineup That Should Start Against Hellas Verona

Juventus Vs Verona Full Match 19 May - Hellas Verona Football Club Transparent PNG - 640x340 - Free Download on NicePNG

Oct 24, 2020

Fresh off a comfortable continental victory in Kyiv, Juventus return to Serie A action on Sunday night as they host Ivan Juric's stout Hellas Verona.

Andrea Pirlo remains unbeaten as Bianconeri boss following his shock summer arrival but they currently sit fifth in the table, four points off early leaders Milan, after drawing two of their opening four games.

The early signs suggest that Juve's monopoly over calcio is in serious danger this term, with threats emerging in Milan, Naples and Bergamo. It's poised to be a mightily competitive Serie A season.

Sunday's clash with Juric's Gialloblu represents an incredibly tricky fixture. The visitors may lack firepower but they're unquestionably one of the stoutest and most well-drilled sides Italy has to offer. They've conceded just once in four games thus far. .......

Juventus give Paulo Dybala his first start in three months, partnering Alvaro Morata, Federico Bernardeschi and Aaron Ramsey against Nikola Kalinic’s Hellas Verona.

It kicks off at 19.45 GMT.

The Bianconeri have stuttered in Serie A so far under coach Andrea Pirlo, drawing with Roma and Crotone, with three points awarded by default for the cancelled game against Napoli.

Their form was better midweek in the Champions League, winning 2-0 away to Dynamo Kiev with a Morata brace. .......

HT 0-0: Juve come close, but Verona level

Immagine

Oct 25, 2020

Alvaro Morata saw his goal ruled offside and Juan Cuadrado rattled the crossbar, but Verona have threatened Juventus too in the first half.

Juve were wearing a special edition jersey designed in conjunction with Pharrell Williams, made to visibly be hand-drawn. .......

Ramsey’s cross went just beyond both Bernardeschi and Morata, but the best chance of the half fell to Juan Cuadrado on 42 minutes. It was at the end of a well-worked team move, Cuadrado hitting a rocket from 12 yards on to the crossbar after Bernardeschi rolled it across from the left.

Morata thought he had opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time when running on to a Cuadrado through ball and immediately flicking it up over Silvestri with a delightful first-time lob. However, it was disallowed using VAR for the slimmest of offside margins.

Juventus 0-0 Verona (Half-Time)

Juventus: Szczesny; Danilo, Bonucci, Demiral; Cuadrado, Arthur, Rabiot, Bernardeschi; Ramsey; Dybala, Morata

Verona: Silvestri; Lovato, Ceccherini, Empereur; Faraoni, Vieira, Tameze, Lazovic; Colley, Zaccagni; Kalinic

Juventus 1-1 Verona: Juve can't break Hellas

Immagine

Oct 25, 2020

Juventus again failed to get the three points in Serie A, as only a Dejan Kulusevski moment of magic cancelled out the Andrea Favilli opener for Hellas Verona.

However, it was disallowed using VAR for the slimmest of offside margins. .......

Things deteriorated for the Bianconeri, as Leonardo Bonucci pulled up clutching the back of his thigh and immediately asked to be substituted, making him a real doubt to face Barcelona next week too.

Dybala was unlucky on 76 minutes, his strike from the D taking a double deflection to loop up and bounce off the crossbar.

The equaliser arrived moments later, as Kulusevski’s shimmy drove Davide Faraoni dizzy as he cut inside from the right to place a snooker shot into the far bottom corner.

Juve wanted to win it and Adrien Rabiot’s rocket skimmed the upright, as did Dybala’s scuffed finish from 12 yards. In stoppages, Silvestri parried a Dybala solo strike and got hold of the Morata follow-up header too.

Silvestri also had to palm a Cuadrado scorcher out of the near top corner.

Juventus: Szczesny; Danilo, Bonucci (Frabotta 75), Demiral; Cuadrado, Arthur, Rabiot, Bernardeschi (Kulusevski 61); Ramsey (Vrioni 90); Dybala, Morata

Verona: Silvestri; Lovato, Ceccherini (Magnani 55), Empereur; Faraoni, Vieira, Tameze (Ilic 51), Lazovic; Colley, Zaccagni; Kalinic (Favilli 55) (Barak 62)

Pirlo: 'Juve shouldn't need slap to wake up'

Serie A, Juventus-Verona 1-1: highlights, voti e tabellino

Oct 25, 2020

Andrea Pirlo warns Juventus ‘shouldn’t need a slap in the face to wake up and play with intensity’ after their 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona. ........

“Our first half wasn’t aggressive enough, we waited for them, and yet we created the best chances,” Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia.

“We reacted well after they took the lead, but we shouldn’t need a slap in the face to wake up and play with intensity.

“When you play against Verona or Atalanta, it’s difficult because they take you one-on-one all over the field and create many duels. We worked to avoid their high press and that worked better in the second half. It’s tough against them, we could’ve done better. .........

Juve-Verona ratings: superb Kulusevski, terrible Bernardeschi

Wonder Kulusevski, Silvestri saves everything: Juve bombs Verona, but ends 1-1 | Italy24 News English

Oct 25, 2020

A Dejan Kulusevski's goal allows Juventus to snatch one point in their home Serie A clash against Verona. Marco Silvestri was superb for the guests but the feeling is that Verona deserved to leave the Allianz Stadium with one point. Check out our player ratings from the Allianz Stadium.

Juventus:

Szczesny 6 –Nothing he can do to save Andrea Favilli’s close-range shot.

Danilo 6.5 – Defends well, the goal is not his fault.

Bonucci 5.5 – Not always comfortable with Nikola Kalinic. Leaves the pitch injured (Frabotta 75 ng)

Demiral 6.5 – Solid-rock at the back, the king of tackles.

Cuadrado 6.5 –Hits the crossbar in the first half, not as proactive in the second half.

Arthur 6 – Not many key passes but he never loses the ball and never suffers the pressing of Verona.

Rabiot 6 – Solid first half, he drops a little bit in the second half.

Bernardeschi 4.5 –Misses an easy goal in the first half, loses the ball possession when Verona score. (Kulusevski 60 7 – Creates more than Bernardeschi and scores the equalizer in style.)

Ramsey 5.5 –A key Juventus player this season but he doesn’t show it this evening. (Vrioni 90 sv)

Dybala 6 – First start of the season, the quality is there. Hits the crossbar and stings Silvestri's gloves in the second half. Unlucky.

Morata 6 – He scores but his goal is ruled off-side. Overall he seems a more complete striker compared to five years ago.

Pirlo 5.5 – Juventus create several clear-cut chances but are unable to score twice. Somehow, he’s only won a game on the pitch so far in this Serie A campaign.

Pirlo: 'Juve must sacrifice themselves'

Pirlo: "Ronaldo? Aspettiamo stasera il responso del tampone" - Tuttosport

Oct 27, 2020

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo waits for Cristiano Ronaldo’s test results and said he will ‘count on the players available to sacrifice themselves’ against Barcelona.

Pirlo said the Old Lady expect the test results from Cristiano Ronaldo’s last swab for coronavirus tonight but doesn’t know if the Portugal international starts even if he tests negative.

“We must wait for the outcome [from Ronaldo’s test], I think the result will come tonight,” Pirlo said at a press conference.

“First we wait for the outcome and then we'll see. For now, everything is still on the high seas and then we’ll see.

“We hope to evaluate it, even if it’s hard after 15 days out.”

There are multiple reports in Spain that Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu and his Board have resigned, just 24 hours before the game with Juventus.

The Blaugrana squad is already in Turin with coach Ronald Koeman, so the news comes a day before a huge Champions League fixture.

Sport, Mundo Deportivo, Cadena Ser and others all claim Bartomeu and his Board of Directors have resigned.

They were facing a vote of no confidence and Bartomeu had spoken out against the idea of resignation only yesterday. .......

Leonardo Bonucci could start this evening’s Champions League clash against Barcelona as the Italian defender has been included in the Old Lady’s squad list to face the Blaugrana.

Bonucci had picked up a minor muscle injury on Sunday against Verona and trained apart from the rest of the team yesterday.

The Italy international, however, seems to have recovered from his injury as he’s been included in Andrea Pirlo’s squad list to face Barcelona. .......

Juventus use Federico Chiesa, Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata against Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, while Leonardo Bonucci passes a late fitness test, but Ansu Fati is benched.

It kicks off in Turin at 20.00 GMT.

Bonucci was a major doubt until the last minute after limping off with a thigh problem during the 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona.

He is in the starting XI with Merih Demiral and Danilo.

Cuadrado and Chiesa take the wings, with Dejan Kulusevski,  Dybala and Morata upfront, leaving Aaron Ramsey and former Barcelona midfielder Arthur on the bench.

Ronald Koeman hasn’t been entirely convincing yet, and goes into this game without Philippe Coutinho, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Samuel Umtiti or suspended Gerard Pique.

HT 0-1: Barcelona lead Juventus at the break

Alvaro Morata had two goals ruled offside, but Ousmane Dembele gave Barcelona the half-time lead away to Juventus.

Barca came tearing out the gate with three chances in the first two minutes. Leo Messi’s effort was charged down by Bonucci, then on the corner Wojciech Szczesny parried a Miralem Pjanic strike and Antoine Griezmann’s follow-up thumped the inside of the post.

The Blaugrana did break the deadlock when Ousmane Dembele twisted and turned on the edge of the area, his shot eventually taking a deflection off Federico Chiesa to loop over Szczesny into the net. .......

Juventus 0-2 Barcelona: Bianconeri broken

Juventus were unlucky in their 2-0 home defeat to Barcelona, as following the Ousmane Dembele opener, Alvaro Morata had three goals ruled offside, Merih Demiral saw red and Lionel Messi converted a penalty.

Alvaro Morata had the ball in the net moments later, but VAR confirmed he was offside when he started the run.

Morata thought he had finally got the equaliser when Cuadrado acrobatically volleyed Chiesa’s cross back from the right and the Spaniard turned in first time. However, after a very long VAR check, the third Juventus and Morata goal of the night was ruled offside.

Juventus ended the match with 10 men, as Merih Demiral received his second yellow card in the closing stages.

Federico Bernardeschi completed the dismal night by clattering into the back of Ansu Fati for an entirely avoidable penalty, which Messi converted into the top corner.

Pirlo: 'Juve need work to reach Barca level'

La Juventus non può nulla contro il Barcellona, Pirlo: "Molti giocatori al debutto in Champions, eravamo contati" - Il Fatto Quotidiano

Oct 28, 2020

Andrea Pirlo admits the plans Juventus had didn’t quite come off and looked to the lack of experience. ‘We need work until we can play Barcelona on level terms.’

The Bianconeri have now won only two games on the pitch this season, drawing three Serie A matches in a row and beaten 2-0 at home by Barcelona in the Champions League this evening.

Alvaro Morata was unfortunate to see three goals ruled offside, but Juve threatened precious little else, while Wojciech Szczesny performed heroics and Barca seemed intent on walking it into the net.

“We knew it’d be tough against a side that plays good football, that is accustomed to playing at this level, whereas we are a work in progress.

“Ultimately, it’s a match that will be useful for us to grow and improve in future,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia. ........

Juve-Barça ratings: unrecognizable Kulusevski and Demiral

Juve-Barcellona 0-2: Dembélée Messi, tre gol annullati a Morata - Il Mattino.it

Oct 28, 2020

Dejan Kulusevski and Merih Demiral were unrecognizable in Juventus’ 2-0 home defeat against Barcelona in Champions League but they are not the only ones to be blamed for the Old Lady's poor performance. Check the player ratings from the Allianz Stadium.

Demiral 4 – Starts off the game giving away the ball to Leo Messi inside the box. Gets two yellow cards for harsh fouls on the Argentinean and his ex teammate Pjanic.

Danilo 6.5 - Not easy to dribble him in the second half solid.

Kulusevski 4 - Not his night. Runs a lot but seems to have lost his quality for 90 minutes. (McKennie 74 ng)

Dybala 4.5 - Not 100% fit and, never creates troubles.

Morata 6 - Has three goals disallowed by VAR for off-side. Fights until the end. Unlucky.

Coach: Pirlo 5 – Decent Juventus for 45 minutes but it can’t be enough against a team that is definitely not at its best. First defeat of his era. ........

Pirlo: 'Ronaldo won't start with Spezia'

Juventus TV | Highlights, Videos, Exclusive Content

Oct 31, 2020

Andrea Pirlo warns Cristiano Ronaldo ‘probably won’t’ start for Juventus against Spezia tomorrow after recovering from COVID-19, while ‘it’s just a physical issue’ for Paulo Dybala.

The big news is that Cristiano Ronaldo tested negative for COVID-19 and is therefore available, but the coach warns he “probably won’t be in the starting XI. It’s important just to have him with us, he trained at home, but it’s not the same thing as doing it on the field.

“Unfortunately, Matthijs de Ligt needs to wait a few more weeks, as he had a visit with a specialist after shoulder surgery and asked to wait a while longer. It’s all going well, he is training with us, but needs some more time.

“Leonardo Bonucci will play, he worked separately in training yesterday, but is fine. Giorgio Chiellini is not yet available and will remain in Turin.” .......

Juventus squad named for Spezia trip with CR7 included

Immagine

Oct 31, 2020

Juventus have named their 20-man squad list for the trip to Spezia tomorrow, as they look to get back to winning ways.

Our boys haven’t won a league match since September 20, when we demolished Sampdoria 3-0, and the manager will no doubt have had the team training hard to rectify that.

It is a relief to have Cristiano Ronaldo back in the squad, after a torrid couple of weeks, although he isn’t guaranteed to start having missed the majority of our training sessions of late, thanks to only testing negative for Covid-19 yesterday. .......

Spezia 1-4 Juventus: Ronaldo is back!

Immagine

Nov 1, 2020

Juventus were struggling yet again with Spezia, until Cristiano Ronaldo came on to score a brace and inspire the 4-1 victory.

Cristiano Ronaldo returned after three weeks out with COVID-19, but was only on the bench, while Giorgio Chiellini, Alex Sandro and Matthijs de Ligt were still injured. Federico Chiesa came back from his ban, with the Bianconeri desperate for a result after draws with Crotone and Verona, plus a midweek defeat to Barcelona. .......

Morata did get the ball in the net on 16 minutes after Danilo’s through ball found Weston McKennie, who rolled across for the Spaniard to sweep home. The offside flag was raised, but after having three goals disallowed against Barcelona midweek, he finally got one to count, as he was behind the line of the ball.

Cristiano Ronaldo made his comeback after three weeks out with COVID-19 and it took him all of three minutes to get on the scoresheet, as he ran on to a Morata through ball, waltzed round the goalkeeper and deposited into an empty net.

Spezia did not give in and Gigi Buffon needed a great reaction save on Chabot’s header from a corner, with Kevin Agudelo offside when he turned in the rebound.

Instead, Juve extended their lead with another substitute, as Adrien Rabiot gathered down the left from Chiesa, cut inside and scored with his weaker right foot from close range, relatively undisturbed.

However, Chiesa ran into the area and drew the foul as Bartolomei bumped into the back of him for a penalty. Ronaldo converted with a classy Panenka chip.

Spezia: Provedel; Ferrer, Chabot (Dell’Orco 74), Terzi, S Bastoni; Bartolomei, Ricci, Pobega (Estevez 74); Verde (Agudelo 46), Nzola, Farias (Gyasi 73)

Juventus: Buffon; Demiral, Bonucci (Frabotta 77), Danilo; Cuadrado, Bentancur (Ramsey 62), Arthur, McKennie (Rabiot 62), Chiesa; Morata (Kulusevski 78), Dybala (Ronaldo 56)

Pirlo: 'Improved Juventus'

Spezia-Juventus 1-4 | Pirlo | “Avremmo dovuto chiuderla prima | Ronaldo ci ha aiutati”

Nov 1, 2020

Andrea Pirlo insists Juventus 'played a good game' against Spezia and reveals how the team can still improve.

"We played a good game, we should close it in the first half, we created a lot. If you don’t do it you risk against any opponent," the Old Lady's boss told Sky Sport after the game.

"We wanted to win it and Ronaldo helped us."

The Portuguese star returned to action after testing positive for Covid for over 20 days on Friday he tested negative and today he returned to the pitch entering from the bench in the second half.

"We changed our system little bit, we knew Arthur would have been more free to play a little behind. Ronaldo is improving and we were waiting for him.

"Both him and Dybala are improving, let’s see how everyone feels in the coming days. ........
