Ronaldo most goals since Sivori in 1961

Cristiano Ronaldo has become only the fifth player to score at least 32 Serie A goals in a single calendar year, the first since Omar Sivori in 1961.

 

The Juventus star bagged a brace in yesterday’s 4-0 victory over Parma at the Stadio Tardini.

 

That took his tally for the calendar year 2020 to 32 goals and he still has another game left to play.

 

That allows him to equal the number scored by Stefano Nyers in 1951, and is just one shy of Sivori’s 33 set in 1961.

 

The ultimate record belongs to Felice Borel with 41 goals in 1933, followed by Gunnar Nordahl on 36 in 1950. ........

Ronaldo beats Messi to be crowned Player of the Century at Globe Soccer Awards

Cristiano Ronaldo and Pep Guardiola were honoured at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, the duo named player and coach of the century respectively. 

 

Juventus forward Ronaldo picked up the award in person at a ceremony held at the Armani Hotel on Sunday, beating longtime rival Lionel Messi to the prize. 

The 35-year-old, who has won domestic league titles in Spain, England and Italy and Euro 2016 with Portugal, admitted his pride at receiving the accolade, given to the player judged the best between 2001 and 2020. 

"It's a pleasure to win titles," said Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, at the event. 

"It's not easy to be top of the game for so many years. I am really proud, but without a team, great coaches and clubs it is not possible." 

Ronaldo would also respond on Twitter, saying: "Couldn’t be happier with tonight’s award! As I’m about to celebrate my 20th year as a professional footballer, Globe Soccer Player Of The Century is a recognition that I receive with so much joy and pride!" ........

Cristiano Ronaldo says he doesn’t like his son to drink coke and eat crisps: ‘But I won’t pressure him to become a footballer.’

 

The Juventus striker has won the Globe Soccer Awards’ Player of the Century on Sunday and spoke to reporters after the award ceremony.

“We’ll see if my son will become a great footballer,” he said, according to A Bola.

 

“Sometimes he drinks coke and eats crisps and it irritates me, he knows that,” the Portuguese star added. ........

 

“I won’t pressure him to become a footballer, but I would like it. The most important thing is to become the best in his field, whether it is football or medicine.”

Cristiano Ronaldo has equalised Josef Bican’s record for goals scored for club and country.

 

The Juventus striker scored his 759th career goal in the final minutes of Juventus-Sassuolo on Sunday and needs one more to become the best goal scorer in the history of football.

 

Bican, was a Czech striker who played, among others, with Rapid Wien, Admira, Slavia Prague and Dynamo Prague between 1931 and 1955. ..........

Tomas, a 7-year-old child from Portugal, was diagnosed with rare cancer neuroblastoma in September 2019.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored his second Serie A hat-trick in the Juventus jersey, but both of them were against Cagliari.

 

CR7 took all of 32 minutes to complete his perfect treble in Sardinia, as he scored with his head, converted a penalty with his right foot and then netted with his left.

 

This was the 57^th career hat-trick for the Ballon d’Or winner for club and country.

 

Curiously, before this fixture, the Sardegna Arena was the only Serie A stadium where Ronaldo had failed to find the net playing for Juve.

 

There was also a hat-trick for Juve in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid.

Cristiano Ronaldo threw his Portugal captain’s armband to the ground in anger, but it is doing some good now, as it’ll be auctioned to raise money for a Serbian child’s surgery. ..................

 

 

The Associated Press reports that a stadium worker picked up the armband and then handed it over to a charity group, who are raising funds for the surgery of a six-month-old boy from Serbia with spinal muscular atrophy.
