Juventus Coach Massimiliano Allegri says the Atalanta game is “one of the crucial matches of the season”.

The Bianconeri travel to Bergamo tomorrow to face Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, but even with Monaco on the horizon they won’t be taking the match lightly.

“Rotation… I’ll choose tomorrow,” Allegri said in his pre-match Press conference.

“We’ll put in place functional players for the game. Everyone is fine, we’re coming off five days of rest, Monaco is in five days so now it’s important to be focused and above all win the game tomorrow, or at least create the conditions to win.

“In football you never know how it will end, and tomorrow’s match is one of the crucial ones of the League season, those would be tomorrow and the one with Torino at home.

“We’re beginning an important period, but we still need points to get to the finish line in the League. On Sunday the team played a nice match with Genoa, it was one of those games we had to win.

“We’re coming off a period where we had difficult games like the ones with Barcelona, and tomorrow is a game where we need to win because as I’ve said before, Roma can get to 90 points and at the moment we need another eight.

“We’ll see what Roma do afterward, tomorrow is a match against a team which is doing important things, they really have had an extraordinary season to compliments have to go to Gasperini and to the club, who have done really exemplary work.

“They’ve improved in terms of their awareness of their means, as with everything the more results you get, the more time passes, the more you grow.

“They have good, top quality players and are led by a very good Coach.

“Playing in Bergamo has always been difficult, for them this is a step closer to Europe and for us it’s a step closer to the Scudetto.

“They’ll fight to the end to get into Europe, so tomorrow will be a complicated game but we just need to take the points.

“I repeat, to get to 91 points and be mathematically certain we need eight. Tomorrow we’ll try to get three, then we’ll see.”

Allegri: ‘Juventus have won nothing’

Massimiliano Allegri plays down talk of a Juventus treble - “at this point we’ve still won nothing”.

The Bianconeri are eight points clear at the top of Serie A, and have already qualified for the Coppa Italia final.

On Wednesday they face Monaco in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final, leading to suggestions they could emulate the Inter side of 2010 in winning all three competitions.

“Look, a lot of things have been said and written this week, and rightly so,” Allegri told journalists in his Press conference ahead of the Atalanta match.

“I think it’s normal and right because otherwise you’ll live with too much equilibrium. You need balance, but you also need moments of ‘euphoria’, in quotes.

“At this point we’ve still won nothing, in the end only the facts count, words don’t matter much.

“So at the moment Juventus haven’t won anything, we haven’t won the Scudetto, we still need to play the Coppa Italia final and we haven’t yet reached the Champions League final.

“We still need to go one step at a time. Tomorrow we have a game where the three points are very important, we can’t allow Roma to think that we’re going to slip-up.

“Why are Juventus the only team that can win a treble? This blessed treble… we’re thinking about winning one, then we’ll think about winning the other and at the end trying to win the third.

“To win the third we have to get there, at the moment we’re on course for the Scudetto but we’re close, not very close.

“The final of the Coppa Italia is still to be played, and in the Champions League there are still two games until the final.

“What we’ve done is partial, because what counts is the end result when we stop on June 4.

“So we have to think about working this month, an important month where we need to work calmly, approach our training sessions in the best way and above all deal with the games without thinking about what will happen in 20 days time.

“We’ll think about tomorrow, which is the most important thing.”

Roma face Lazio in the Derby della Capitale this weekend, before visiting Milan in Week 35, could those games decide the title race?

“It’s not up to us to decide, to get to the Scudetto we need eight points. That means winning three or drawing two and winning two. Then we’ll see what the others do.

“We need to bring home the title, it’s not over yet and there’s still a long way to go. Then we’ll think of the Champions League.

“It’s an objective to win in Europe, but before that we have to try and win the League.”

Allegri said that Juve will stop on June 4, does that mean he’s already planning for the Champions League final?

“No, because the Coppa Italia final is on the 2nd so… We need to aim to stop on June 4, then we’ll do well.

“That doesn’t mean we’re already in the final, because Monaco are a good, tough team.”

‘Rugani out for Atalanta’

Massimiliano Allegri reveals Daniele Rugani will miss Juventus’ trip to Atalanta, and names his team for tomorrow’s match.

The Bianconeri are in Bergamo tomorrow night, as they look to take a step closer to a sixth consecutive Scudetto.

“It’s not true to say that there are full-backs more suited for the League and those more suited for the Champions League,” Allegri said in his pre-match Press conference.

“I have to make choices, what’s important is that everyone puts in good performances as [Stephan] Lichtsteiner is doing, as Dani Alves is doing, as [Kwadwo] Asamoah is doing and as Alex Sandro is doing.

“In the end Juventus have to try and win the League, win the Coppa Italia and win the Champions League.

“To get to the end in all of those then all of the players are absolutely fundamental, as I said in my last Press conference.

“Even a ball touched by a player who came on in the last minute becomes fundamental in winning or losing.

“As for Rugani, I believe the squad list has been released and Rugani won’t be there because yesterday he took a hit, which seemed like nothing serious, but the bruising remained.

“Today he worked separately and he’ll be available after tomorrow.

“[Moise] Kean has been out with an ankle injury which he picked up in the Viareggio Tournament, he’s still not in good physical condition and he’ll play a match with the Primavera tomorrow.

“The four in defence tomorrow are Dani Alves, [Giorgio] Chiellini, [Leonardo] Bonucci and Alex Sandro. And [Gigi] Buffon will return in goal.

“The usual four [Gonzalo Higuain, Juan Cuadrado, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic] will be up-front.

“[Sami] Khedira will be play because he’s suspended for Monaco and Pjanic too because he rested against Genoa.”

Higuain is two goals off the top of the Capocannoniere list, would being Serie A top-scorer represent the icing on the cake for him this season?

“Higuain is an extraordinary player, he’s doing important things and above all he does a lot for the team and I think he has improved in that regard.

“He’s a player who came here to win, he came into a group which has already won and I’d say things are going in the best way, both for him and the team.”

Atalanta-Juventus Match Preview

Atalanta try to end their Juventus taboo and keep the Scudetto race alive while consolidating their own European spot.

With the home side currently sitting fifth in Serie A, five points ahead of Milan and one point behind Lazio, a win for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side could see them really cement their European chances for next season and put some clear daylight between themselves and the two Milan clubs with just over a month left in the season.

As for Juventus, a victory would put them one step closer to a historic sixth league title in a row, and with a very important Champions League semi-final clash against Monaco on the horizon, wrapping up the title is something Max Allegri will want to do as quickly as possible.

Atalanta are coming into this game off the back of an exciting victory at home to Bologna, which ended 3-2 thanks to a 75th-minute winner courtesy of Juve-owned Mattia Caldara.

A positive result against reigning champions would put them on the verge of Europa League qualification, and with a huge tie against Milan coming up in two weeks’ time, a positive result here would be vital to their season.

The Bianconeri will know that a victory in Bergamo would overcome one of the biggest obstacles on their way to the title. Given that the next two Serie A fixtures are the Turin Derby and Roma, a positive result here is absolutely imperative for Juve if they want to take another gigantic leap towards the potential Treble.

Their last outing was a comprehensive home win against Genoa thanks to goals from Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic, Leonardo Bonucci and an own goal from Ezequiel Munoz, which kept their eight-point lead intact. With the Champions League game coming up, maybe this could be the match for Atalanta to surprise the champions-elect.

Miralem Pjanic returns from suspension and Sami Khedira will definitely start, as he is suspended for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final with Monaco. Max Allegri has been hesitant to rest his top stars, so we’ll see if he takes that approach again in Bergamo.

Keep an eye on: Franck Kessie (Atalanta) - The in-demand Ivorian midfielder could hold the key for Atalanta to steal a victory, and a good performance could see his value sky rocket beyond the current €28m.

Form Guide: Atalanta (W D D W W) Juventus (W W W D W)

Last Season: Atalanta 0-2 Juventus

Stat Fact: Atalanta have lost their last 14 consecutive meetings with Juventus in all competition, home and away, since a 2-2 Serie A draw in Turin in May 2009.

Top Tip: Both teams to score

Atalanta (probable): Berisha; Toloi, Caldara, Masiello; Conti, Kessie, Freuler, Spinazzola; Kurtic; Petagna, Gomez

Suspended: None

Juventus (probable): Buffon; Lichtsteiner; Barzagli, Bonucci, Asamoah; Pjanic, Khedira; Cuadrado, Dybala, Mandzukic; Higuain

Suspended: None

Juventus will not be distracted by their impending Champions League semi-final against Monaco in their bid to wrap up the Serie A title, insists head coach Massimiliano Allegri.

The Bianonconeri need eight more points to be sure of a sixth straight league title and face a tricky trip to Atalanta on Friday, with Gian Piero Gasperini's side unbeaten since December at home and sitting fifth in their attempt to qualify for the Europa League.

Juve are still fighting on three fronts having also reached the Coppa Italia final, but Allegri says his side will not take Atalanta lightly ahead of Wednesday's first-leg tie at Monaco in the Champions League.

"We're beginning an important period, but we still need points to get to the finish line in the league," Allegri told reporters. "On Sunday the team played a good match with Genoa, it was one of those games we had to win.

"We're coming off a period where we had difficult games like the ones with Barcelona, and [Atalanta] is a game where we need to win because as I've said before, Roma can get to 90 points and at the moment we need another eight.

"Playing in Bergamo has always been difficult, for them this is a step closer to Europe and for us it's a step closer to the Scudetto.

"They'll fight to the end to get into Europe, so it will be a complicated game but we just need to take the points. To get to 91 points and be mathematically certain [of winning the league] we need eight. We'll try to get three, then we'll see.

"At this point we've still won nothing, in the end only the facts count, words don't matter much. So at the moment Juventus haven't won anything, we haven't won the Scudetto, we still need to play the Coppa Italia final and we haven't yet reached the Champions League final.

"We still need to go one step at a time. We need to bring home the title, it's not over yet and there's still a long way to go. Then we'll think of the Champions League."

Allegri will be without Daniele Rugani for the trip to Bergamo and the Juve coach confirmed Dani Alves, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Alex Sandro will line up in defence against Atalanta.

Juventus are very close to sealing a historic sixth-straight Scudetto, but as is his usual, manager Massimiliano Allegri likes to keep the players and fans grounded at all times. In that vein, his press conference today ahead of Friday evening’s game against Atalanta called for caution and stressed his focus on taking one game at a time.

“Rotation… I’ll choose tomorrow. We’ll put in place functional players for the game. Everyone is fine, we’re coming off five days of rest, Monaco is in five days so now it’s important to be focused and above all win the game tomorrow, or at least create the conditions to win.

“In football you never know how it will end, and tomorrow’s match is one of the crucial ones of the League season, those would be tomorrow and the one with Torino at home.”

Juve play against Monaco on Wednesday next week in the first leg of the Champions League semi final -

“We’ll see what Roma do afterward, tomorrow is a match against a team which is doing important things, they really have had an extraordinary season to compliments have to go to Gasperini and to the club, who have done really exemplary work.”

He continued talking about Atalanta, highlighting the improvements made by La Dea, who are in fifth place in the table.

“They’ve improved in terms of their awareness of their means, as with everything the more results you get, the more time passes, the more you grow. They have good, top quality players and are led by a very good Coach.

“Playing in Bergamo has always been difficult, for them this is a step closer to Europe and for us it’s a step closer to the Scudetto. They’ll fight to the end to get into Europe, so tomorrow will be a complicated game but we just need to take the points.

“I repeat, to get to 91 points and be mathematically certain we need eight. Tomorrow we’ll try to get three, then we’ll see.”

The manager maintained that he had the bigger picture in mind with his decision-making.

“It’s not true to say that there are full-backs more suited for the League and those more suited for the Champions League. I have to make choices, what’s important is that everyone puts in good performances as Stephan Lichtsteiner is doing, as Dani Alves is doing, as Kwadwo Asamoah is doing and as Alex Sandro is doing.

“In the end Juventus have to try and win the League, win the Coppa Italia and win the Champions League. To get to the end in all of those then all of the players are absolutely fundamental, as I said in my last Press conference.

“Even a ball touched by a player who came on in the last minute becomes fundamental in winning or losing.”

Allegri also provided updates on the squad for tomorrow’s game.

“As for Daniele Rugani, I believe the squad list has been released and Rugani won’t be there because yesterday he took a hit, which seemed like nothing serious, but the bruising remained. Today he worked separately and he’ll be available after tomorrow.

“Moise Kean has been out with an ankle injury which he picked up in the Viareggio Tournament, he’s still not in good physical condition and he’ll play a match with the Primavera tomorrow.

“The four in defence tomorrow are Dani Alves, Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucciand Alex Sandro. And Gigi Buffon will return in goal.

“The usual four of Gonzalo Higuain, Juan Cuadrado, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic will be up-front.

Sami Khedira will play because he’s suspended for Monaco and Miralem Pjanic too because he rested against Genoa.”

Higuain is two goals behind the leaders in the Capocannoniere list, is that a target for him?

“Higuain is an extraordinary player, he’s doing important things and above all he does a lot for the team and I think he has improved in that regard.

“He’s a player who came here to win, he came into a group which has already won and I’d say things are going in the best way, both for him and the team.”

Gasperini: 'Juve best in the world'

Atalanta Coach Gian Piero Gasperini insists “Juventus are one of the best teams in Europe, probably even in the world right now.”

“Tomorrow we are taking on Juventus. There is respect and confidence from all of us,” Gasp told Mediaset Premium.

“This might be the best moment to face a great team. It’ll be a difficult round for us, but we want to do well in front of our fans.”

The Bianconeri don’t seem intent on resting stars ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Monaco.

“Juve are certainly one of the best teams in Europe, probably in the world right now. They are extraordinary and in the last game with Genoa were dominant. They’re in great shape currently.

“I don’t think their minds will be on Monaco, as they have the hunger and desire to finish off the Scudetto race. A lot is up for grabs over the next month, but the same is true for us. It’s the decisive period before verdicts are reached.

“There’s a month to go before the end of the season, we want to achieve our objective and it would be fantastic to get into Europe. The people of Bergamo desire it and it’d be a disappointment now if we didn’t get there.”

Franck Kessie is available after a knock, but Boukary Drame and Ervin Zukanovic are still on the treatment table.

There are reports that Gasp could revamp his line-up in Bergamo tomorrow evening, dropping centre-forward Andrea Petagna and moving to a 3-4-2-1 formation.

Jasmin Kurtic and Hans Hateboer would support Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez in a lone False Nine role.

Atalanta squad for Juventus: Bastoni, Berisha, Cabezas, Caldara, Conti, Cristante, D’Alessandro, Freuler, Gollini, Gomez, Grassi, Hateboer, Kessie, Konko, Kurtic, Masiello, Migliaccio, Mounier, Paloschi, Pesic, Petagna, Raimondi, Rossi, Spinazzola, Toloi

Figo: 'Juve can win the CL'

Luis Figo insists that Juventus can secure the Champions League trophy this season, as 'those who are used to winning usually prevail'.

The former Portugal international also warned that it is important to have a 'different mentality' when playing in European games.

"When you get to the semi-finals there are no longer any favorites" the former midfielder told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I believe, however, that the clubs who are more used to winning – especially in the Champions League – that history and tradition for those who have won more prevail in the end. But in two games anything can happen.

"I think if you play in Serie A, it serves you well if you compete with an Italian philosophy, because it is a complicated league that is competitive and tough.

"But in European competitions you must have a different mentality because what counts at the end is to score and not just defend. You have to know how to attack to score as many goals as possible.

"And that makes all the difference in the two games in knockout competitions, both home and away.

"So the fact that Juve are in the semifinals means that they are strong, especially because they have eliminated Barcelona and other strong teams, that they have grown and have a chance to win the Champions League."

Does the former La Liga star think Monaco the surprise package this year?

"No, it was a surprise for those who do not know or do not follow international football, they have young players who are strong like Mbappe and many others.

"I think La Liga is playing out how everyone expected, namely that the league will be decided on the final day. But it’s in Madrid’s hands. Losing the Clasico does not change anything.

"Because as [Zinedine] Zidane said, Real are doing well and must have confidence in the remaining games, because the title only depends on them. I do not usually bet and I do not make predictions. they will all be complicated games for Barca and Real, but it’s all up to Madrid because they have a game in hand."

Which modern player does Figo think is most like him?

"The player who most resembles me is Gelson Martins of Sporting, he is 21 years old. I wish him a great career, he has the qualities to win. He must continue to work and grow as an athlete."

Finally the 44-year-old confirmed that he has no plans to become a Coach in the future.

"No, because I know the players and I know football: you can be a very good Coach and not be successful or you can sometimes win without being good at all."

Atalanta defender Andrea Conti insists his side will face Juventus 'without fear' tonight.

La Dea host Max Allegri's side this evening.

The Bianconeri beat Atalanta 3-1 in the reverse fixture, so is the 23-year-old expecting a repeat of this?

"Of course we do not want a repeat of the reverse fixture," the youngster told the Atalanta official website. "More like the performance in the Coppa Italia when we were able to put them in difficulty.

"We have prepared well and will try to play our game. And we face them without fear, even though we know the value of Juve.

"Today they are among the best three teams in the world in my opinion. Hopefully they will be thinking a little about the semi-finals of the Champions League, but we know they are a team that hardly puts a foot wrong in the game, they always play with the right mentality."

The youngster then replied to accusations that he had posted on social media insulting Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis and Inter.

"Phrases posted on social networks? I take this opportunity to deny that those words are mine. That is not my profile, I do not understand how something like that could happen."

It’s a full-strength Juventus line-up at Atalanta, as the Bianconeri look to take a step closer to the Scudetto.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri had already confirmed his starting XI in yesterday’s Press conference, so there are no surprises for the visitors.

Gianluigi Buffon, Miralem Pjanic and Juan Cuadrado return after missing the win over Genoa, while Sami Khedira starts ahead of Claudio Marchisio.

The German is suspended for Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final trip to Monaco, so Il Principino is rested in view of that.

Gonzalo Higuain leads the line as he looks to close the gap at the top of the scoring charts, with Pipita currently on 23, two behind Edin Dzeko and Andrea Belotti.

The hosts opt for a 3-4-2-1 shape, with captain Alejandro Gomez leading the line, supported by Jasmin Kurtic and Hans Hateboer.

The Orobici can go fourth, at least temporarily, with a win as Lazio don’t play until Sunday’s derby with Roma.

Atalanta: Berisha; Toloi, Caldara, Masiello; Conti, Freuler, Cristante, Spinazzola; Hateboer, Gomez, Kurtic

Atalanta bench: Bastoni, Cabezas, D'Alessandro, Gollini, Grassi, Kessié, Migliaccio, Mounier, Paloschi, Petagna, Raimondi

Juventus: Buffon; Dani Alves, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Khedira, Pjanic; Cuadrado, Dybala, Mandzukic; Higuaín

Juventus bench: Neto, Audero, Lichtsteiner, Benatia, Barzagli, Asamoah, Marchisio, Lemina, Sturaro, Mattiello, Rincon, Mandragora.

Alejandro Gomez acknowledges Atalanta are facing “one of the best teams in the world” in Juventus but “we want to end the season in Europe”.

The Orobici face the League leaders in Bergamo tonight, with the Old Lady looking to close in on a sixth Scudetto in a row.

“There’s a lot of motivation to do well against a tough team,” Gomez told Premium Sport ahead of the match.

“If we can pick up some points today then we’ll have left our mark on this season. Our path is to continue to grow and to end the season in Europe.

“Playing at home gives us something extra, although we’ve also done well away. That said, we’re facing one of the best teams in the world.”

Atalanta have caused Juventus all kinds of problems, and deservedly lead at the break in Bergamo.

Andrea Conti put the Orobici ahead on the stroke of half-time, as Gian Piero Gasperini's side pressed the Bianconeri into submission.

Juventus Coach Massimiliano Allegri had already confirmed his starting XI in yesterday’s Press conference, so there were no surprises for the visitors.

Gianluigi Buffon, Miralem Pjanic and Juan Cuadrado returned after missing the win over Genoa, while Sami Khedira started ahead of Claudio Marchisio.

Giorgio Chiellini made his 300th Serie A appearance, having made his top-flight debut for Fiorentina in 2004.

The hosts opted for a 3-4-2-1 shape, with captain Alejandro Gomez leading the line, supported by Jasmin Kurtic and Hans Hateboer.

It was the skipper who almost created an opening goal for the Orobici, but Hateboer just failed to get on the end of his low cross from the left.

Juve were struggling to assert their authority on the game, and Rafael Toloi brought a save out of Buffon with a long-range effort.

Gonzalo Higuain has his first sight of goal after 25 minutes, but volley on the spin didn’t have the power to beat Etrit Berisha.

Atalanta had a great chance to take the lead, thought it would have been controversial.

Giorgio Chiellini claimed he was caught by Remo Freuler, but referee Marco Guida waved play on.

The ball was slipped through to Freuler, but Buffon anticipated the danger and cleared the ball with his legs.

The Old Lady seemed to finally wake up in the final 15 minutes of the half, and Cuadrado could have opened the scoring.

Chiellini swung in a deep cross from the left wing, but the Colombian couldn’t find the target with his side-footed volley.

On the break, Atalanta had a three-on-three situation, but Toloi’s cross was scrambled clear with Chiellini having lost possession in midfield.

The Orobici finally did take the lead just on the stroke of half-time.

A fantastic block by Giorgio Chiellini denied Leonardo Spinazzola, but the ball fell kindly for Gomez.

The captain stood up a fantastic cross to the back post, and Conti was on hand to scramble it over the line.

After an insipid first half, the Bianconeri looked to have won it through Dani Alves, but Remo Freuler grabbed a late equaliser to prevent Juve from going 11 clear.

On the break, Atalanta had a three-on-three situation, but Toloi’s cross was scrambled clear with Chiellini having lost possession in midfield.

A fantastic block by Giorgio Chiellini denied Leonardo Spinazzola, but the ball fell kindly for Gomez.

The captain stood up a fantastic cross to the back post, and Conti was on hand to scramble it over the line and give his side a deserved lead at the break.

Allegri must have given his players a verbal volley at half-time, as Juve came out for the second half with vigour.

They were soon level, and the equaliser came through an unfortunate own-goal through one of their loan players.

Miralem Pjanic’s free-kick found its way to the back post, and Spinazzola could only turn the ball past his own goalkeeper.

Atalanta didn’t let their heads drop though, and Gomez forced a fine save from Buffon with a ferocious long-range strike.

The visitors thought they had a penalty for handball, but the referee changed his mind after a flag from the assistant for a push by Leonardo Bonucci.

Juventus were pushing for a winner, and Berisha was at full stretch to palm away a Khedira curler which was headed for the top corner.

The Atalanta goalkeeper denied the German again moments later, pulling off a wonderful reaction save after Khedira got on the end of a corner.

With time ticking away, Pjanic curled a free-kick inches wide of the top corner with Berisha beaten.

Juan Cuadrado had been anonymous on the right wing for Juve, and Allegri opted to withdraw him for Stephan Lichtsteiner and push Dani Alves onto the wing.

The change paid off almost immediately, with the Brazilian grabbing what looked like being the winner.

Pjanic spotted his run from his vantage point deep in the midfield, and the Bosnian curled a perfect pass into the box which Alves met with a diving header which Berisha could do nothing about.

Allegri looked to shut the game down, introducing Andrea Barzagli and Mario Lemina, but his best-laid plans were undone by a calamitous bit of defending.

Pjanic and Lichtsteiner ran into each other in the box, and the ball broke to Freuler's feet.

Buffon smothered his initial effort, but the ball broke back to the Swiss and he smashed it into the empty net to deny Juve the chance to go 11 clear.

Remo Freuler capitalised on a rare error from Gianluigi Buffon to salvage a hard-fought 2-2 draw for Serie A's surprise package Atalanta in a dramatic encounter with league leaders Juventus.

Dani Alves' header appeared to have given Massimiliano Allegri's men a hard-fought three points at Atleti Azzurri d'Italia, as Juve fought back from a 1-0 half-time deficit.

However, Freuler was on hand to claim a deserved point for the hosts, who remain unbeaten at home since December, in the 89th minute and perhaps offer slim hope to Juve's nearest rivals Roma in the title race.

The late drama came at the culmination of an end-to-end clash on Friday, with Juve having pulled level through Leonardo Spinazzola's own-goal after Andrea Conti had put Gian Piero Gasperini's side ahead on the stroke of half-time.

Atalanta goalkeeper Etrit Berisha was on top form throughout and he pulled off a string of excellent saves to deny Gonzalo Higuain and Sami Khedira respectively, although bizarre officiating had denied Juve a penalty midway through the second half.

And it was Berisha's counterpart Buffon that was left embarrassed in the end as, despite another stately performance from the Juve veteran, his fumble allowed Freuler to equalise for an Atalanta side that remain fifth.

For Juve, a draw takes them nine points clear of second-placed Roma, who face local rivals Lazio on Sunday, and Allegri's men will now switch their focus to the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Monaco.

In spite of Allegri's warnings against complacency in the pre-match build up, an unusually tepid Juve failed to stamp any authority on proceedings in a scrappy opening.

Juve's inept display should have been punished on the half-hour mark, but Buffon showed his quality with a superb one-on-one save to deny Andrea Masiello.

Juan Cuadrado could have made Atalanta pay for Masiello's miss soon after, only for the Colombia winger to volley wide after connecting with Giorgio Chiellini's diagonal pass.

However, the hosts did have their deserved lead soon after.

Alejandro Gomes was the architect with a perfectly-weighted dink to the back post where Conti was on hand to bundle home.

But for all their first-half promise, Atalanta's lead was cut short in the 50th minute.

Miralem Pjanic delivered an exquisite free-kick that, under pressure from Leonardo Bonucci, Spinazzola could only turn into his own net.

After Higuain had tested Berisha, Juve should have been given a penalty when Rafael Toloi handled in the area, but the referee - despite initially pointing to the spot - awarded the free-kick Atalanta's way due to Mario Mandzukic having strayed offside.

Berisha was on top form again with just over 20 minutes remaining, denying Higuain after instinctively keeping out two efforts from Khedira.

But the Albania international could do nothing to prevent Alves heading in what appeared to be Juve's winner in the 83rd minute.

Pjanic was again the provider with a wonderful cross and the former Barcelona man headed in unmarked at the far post.

The drama was not over, though, as Atalanta rallied. Frueler unleashed a shot that Buffon could only parry back into the danger zone and the Swiss midfielder followed up to tuck home the rebound.

Juventus felt hard done by on Friday when they were denied a penalty against Atalanta despite a handball from Rafael Toloi.

The game was poised at 1-1 after Andrea Conti's opener in the first-half for the home side was cancelled out just after the restart through Leonardo Spinazzola's own goal.

Eight minutes later, Juve were screaming for a penalty as centre-back Toloi jumped up to challenge for a cross, clearly using his hand to deflect the ball away.

The referee pointed to the spot, but changed his mind shortly afterwards, giving it the other way. It initially appeared he gave it for a push on Toloi, but the decision could prove more controversial as it may have been given for an offside, which occurred after the handball.

The Bianconeri soon got their goal, however, as Dani Alves headed a cross flying into the net in the 83rd minute, but a late equalizer from Atalanta saw the match finish level at 2-2.

Juventus hit a bump in the road on their mission to wrap up the Serie A title as Remo Freuler struck late on to force a 2-2 draw for Atalanta.

Massimiliano Allegri's side, who have also reached the semifinals of the Champions League, meaning they must play Monaco next Wednesday, were hoping to secure their sixth-straight Scudetto with victory in this Friday night match and then in their subsequent meeting with Torino.

They would have needed second-placed Roma to drop points in Sunday's derby game against Lazio, but triumph in the Eternal City would now bring the Giallorossi to within six points of the leaders, with four games remaining including a head-to-head clash in two weeks' time.

Andrea Conti ensured it would be a difficult evening for Juve with a deserved opener just before the break, with Leonardo Spinazzola later scoring an unfortunate own goal to level proceedings.

Dani Alves headed what looked like a late winner as Allegri's men took control, but there was a late twist as Swiss midfielder Freuler split the points.

Juve arrived in Bergamo fully aware of just how dangerous Atalanta can be, with their home statistics making for difficult reading for the reigning champions.

If the Bianconeri were to become only the fourth visiting team to take all three points at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia this season, they needed to start well as Atalanta regularly strike early at home.

However, their hosts for the evening were content to soak up the pressure for the first half-an-hour, even finding enough space to tease Juve with sighters.

Sami Khedira lost patience and launched a ball forward for Gonzalo Higuain, whose weak volley was easily punched clear by Etrit Berisha.

Atalanta responded excellently with Gianluigi Buffon having to make a desperate run from his goal line to deny Freuler a free shot.

Juan Cuadrado should have done better when he connected with Giorgio Chiellini's cross at the other end and, in the 40th minute, Atalanta were back on the attack with Hans Hateboer unlucky to come up short on Spinazzola's ball into the box.

On the stroke of half-time, Conti gave Atalanta the lead. Alejandro Gomez's first attempt was wayward but it was clipped home by his team's right-back.

It was a terrible time to concede but luckily for the visitors an equaliser was delivered soon after the restart.

Miralem Pjanic's free kick looked like it was going to miss its mark so he was grateful to Spinazzola for guiding it the rest of the way with an errant header.

Juve tried to hit their hosts while their spirits were low and Paulo Dybala's snapshot was saved before Berisha got gloves to a powerful Higuain effort.

The Albanian goalkeeper, on loan from Lazio, had to do even better in the 67th minute when forced into a wild parry by the rampaging Khedira. The Germany international was fired up and kept Berisha working hard with a bullet header on Pjanic's corner.

The screw continued to turn and Juve came closer still when Pjanic fizzed a free kick inches past a post. It was a warning that Atalanta failed to heed.

In the 83rd minute the Bianconeri rushed forward en masse and the Nerazzurri back-line were slow to react when Pjanic swung the ball across the area to the far post, where Alves was waiting to head home before tearing off his shirt as he wheeled away in celebration.

The Brazilian flyer's joy was short-lived, however. With a minute remaining, Freuler capitalised on some goalmouth madness to deposit the ball in Buffon's net from close range.

Atalanta’s Remo Freuler hails “an important point for Europe” after his goal earned a 2-2 draw with Juventus.

The Orobici looked to be heading for defeat after Dani Alves’ late goal, but the Swiss capitalised on a defensive mistake to draw his side level. Click here for a match report.

“We equalised in the 90th minute and it’s an important point for Europe, especially against a team like Juventus,” Freuler told Premium Sport after the final whistle.

“At the moment we’re fifth, and if we don’t get it wrong in the last four games then we won’t leave this position.

“I think the boss [Gian Piero Gasperini] will be happy with the first half, maybe not the second. Juve did better in the second half than the first, and it was more difficult for us.”

I had it all mapped out in my mind. Juventus would get all six points in their next two league games against Atalanta and Torino. Juventus would then get a little help in the Derby della Capitale this weekend courtesy of Lazio against Roma. That would mean Juventus’ lead atop the Serie A table would be in double digits and things would pretty much be over when it comes to another Scudetto making its way to Turin.

Just when it looked like that first step was going to be completed, Juventus’ usually rock-solid defense coughed up a late-game lead and turned nothing into something.

As was the case when the two teams played in the Coppa Italia earlier this season, Atalanta was able to do something that a lot of Serie A clubs haven’t done this season (and the last few years, honestly) — score two goals against the best defense Italy has to offer. Remo Freuler’s weaving run through Juventus’ defense and subsequent rebound being put away pulled Atalanta even and Friday night’s meeting between two of the top clubs in Italy finished 2-2 in Bergamo.

This came just a few minutes after Juventus put the finishing touches on its comeback attempt when Miralem Pjanic found Dani Alves for a diving header in the 83rd minute to put the visitors up 2-1. But that lead, obviously, didn’t hold.

It was the first time in 15 games against Juventus that Atalanta wasn’t on the wrong side of the final scoreline.

Not exactly the best time to have that happen, was it?

Juventus’ second half was much better than its opening 45 minutes. It wasn’t pretty out of the gate. The second half was more of the Juventus we’re used to — attacking, creating chances, putting a heap of pressure on the opposition’s defense. That was clear before the own goal, after the own goal and as the second half went on.

But what gave Atalanta hope was that they were also creating chances. And once Juventus’ defense finally cracked, they were able to take a point away in a game where Juve looked like they were about to steal three of them and continue truckin’ toward yet another Scudetto party.

It’s not the worst result in the world — especially after the way Juventus played in the first half. But when you are Juventus and have a lead with less than 10 minutes to go, you want to see that thing closed out. Juve could have had three points, but end up with one. The Scudetto watch may as well be extended a little longer than some of us wanted it to.

And hey, Roma could Roma up the derby on Sunday, so there’s also that.

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Another plus from Friday night: Nobody got hurt — at least that’s the initial feeling in my gut sitting thousands of miles away — and Max Allegri will have everybody available for the trip to Monaco on Wednesday.
  • Another plus from Friday night: Leonardo Spinazzola scored his first Juventus goal. Congratulations, young man! Hopefully there is more to come.
  • The individual battle between Gonzalo Higuain and Mattia Caldara was pretty cool to watch. Have to say the kid held his own against one of the best strikers the world of football currently has.
  • If Andrea Conti isn’t a Juventus transfer target this summer, he should be. I know a lot of us like Pol Lirola around here, but Conti could very well be another young option as Right Back of the Future.
  • Etrit Berisha is on loan from Lazio. Federico Marchetti, famed for being suddenly becoming the best goalkeeper in the world whenever he takes the field against Juventus, plays for Lazio. Put two and two together and you have Berisha being absolutely amazing against Juventus on Friday night.
  • Speaking of damn good goalkeeping, if Gianluigi Buffon doesn’t make any one of those saves had made against Atalanta, Juventus loses. Even his initial save on Atalanta’s game-tying goal was great. I love him so much.
  • I think I’m going to be dreaming of that Pjanic cross to Dani Alves tonight. It was glorious in every single way. Pjanic came serve up dimes whenever he damn well pleases, and this was certainly one of those times. Take a bow for that, Mire.
  • The header at the back stick by Alves wasn’t too bad, either. Just a beautiful, beautiful goal all around.
  • One final question before I leave you guys for the day: If Juventus beats Monaco on Wednesday night, do we even look back at this game and think about it all that much? You can go ahead and discuss, my friends.

Massimiliano Allegri laments “Juventus never concede goals like this” but says the penalty incident with Atalanta is “irrelevant”.

The Bianconeri were 1-0 down in Bergamo tonight, but appeared to have turned the game around when Dani Alves headed a late goal to make it 2-1.

However, a defensive mix-up allowed Remo Freuler to rescue a point for the Orobici. Click here for a match report.

“I won’t speak about the [penalty] incident,” Allegri fumed in his post-match interview with Premium Sport.

“We were in the lead with two minutes to go. The penalty is irrelevant, Juventus have to close out a match after turning it around.

“Juventus never concede goals like today. We’ve played in two alternative phases, a victory over Roma but we need other points.

“We’re on an important journey, we want to close-out the League and a win tonight would have been important for the League.

“This match will serve to give us awareness against Monaco, a team which plays quickly, we’ll have to be good.

“We knew it wouldn’t be easy tonight, but we conceded on two technical errors.

“We need to be calm and not play the same way in Monaco, but even a point at this stage of the season is important.

“In the first half I told Dybala to put himself in one position, but in the second half he did better, he had more freedom to move and more lines to pass to Higuain.

“What did I say at half-time? That we hadn’t won a single 50-50, Atalanta had won all of them.

“We had to raise our tempo, if you don’t win the 50-50s you won’t win.”

Allegri also spoke to Sky after the match, and believes this was a missed opportunity to seal the Scudetto.

"The League isn't over, it would have been if we'd won today. I won't comment on the incidents, we're not looking for excuses.

"The Scudetto is in our hands, we have to do more than them [Roma]. They can get 90 points, we need at least 91."

Gasperini: ‘A perfect match’

Gian Piero Gasperini felt Atalanta-Juventus was “a practically perfect match”, with a deserved point for his side.

The Orobici were on top in the first half of tonight’s game, and held a deserved lead at the break, but looked to have lost to Dani Alves’ late header.

However, Remo Freuler forced a late equaliser to earn a point.

“I’d have been disappointed to lose this game,” Gasperini said in his post-match interview with Premium Sport.

“I think the 2-2 is a good result and the icing on the cake of what was a practically perfect match.

“Playing a first half like this against a team as strong as Juve gives us great satisfaction. It was difficult to sustain that over 90 minutes, but we did well to recover in the second half.

“Europe? We still have four more decisive games, but the point this evening is great morale boost. Now we aren’t lacking many points.

“Tonight we gave ourselves the dream of winning, then it was difficult to wrest the game back from Juventus in the second half.

“Now we have four days off and then we have four cup finals in which to get the points we need for the Europa League.”

Gasperini also took the time to praise his captain, Alejandro Gomez, who put in another stellar performance.

“He’s extraordinary, he was fantastic tonight. He has the quickness and the technical quality to allow us to break. He’s a complete player.

“When I arrived in Bergamo he was pushed out on the wing, it’s a role he does well but now he’s a player all over the pitch.”

Dybala: ‘I’m not Del Piero’

Paulo Dybala feels he “is missing a lot” to be the new Alex Del Piero but “I want to be a Juventus symbol”.

The 23-year-old has been compared to Pinturicchio due to his style of play, and it has been suggested he could even wear the number 10 shirt next season.

“Del Piero is an example,” Dybala told Sky when asked about the comparisons following tonight’s draw with Atalanta.

“It will be hard to follow in his footsteps, both on and off the pitch. He’s a very correct person, I’ve met him and he’s a really good person.

“Where do I lack compared to him? Definitely in front of goal, he scored a lot more than me. I’m missing a lot to be like Del Piero.

“The number 10? I’ve always said that the number 21 is important for Juve. Alex’s 10 is hard to wear, I respect 21 and I want to wear this number.

“I’ll never ask for the number 10, if the club offers me it then we’ll talk.

“My future? I want to be a Bianconero symbol.”

Dybala also gave his thoughts on tonight’s game, which saw his side draw in the 89th-minute.

“It was a pity how it ended, we deserved to win in the second half, but in the first half we were a bit under the cosh against a team in great form.”

Chiellini reaches Serie A milestone in

Juventus clash against Atalanta

The defender has been a steady star for the Bianconeri and reached

his third century of Serie A matches for the club in Friday's draw.

Giorgio Chiellini reached another milestone with Juventus on Friday, playing in his 300th Serie A match for the club.

The defender has been an ever-present force at the back for the Bianconeri over the course of 11 top-flight seasons and has been part of five title-winning sides.

Chiellini has also racked up the personal honors having been named Serie A's best defender three years running from 2008 through 2011.

This year could see even more additions to the trophy case with Juventus a strong favorite to win Serie A and facing a Champions League semi-final against Monaco.

Friday's 2-2 draw with Atalanta saw Juve push their lead atop Serie A to nine points over Roma, who face Lazio in a derby match Sunday.

Allegri: ‘No excuses for Juventus’

Massimiliano Allegri says Juventus should have had a penalty with Atalanta but “I never discuss incidents, or I smile over them”.

The Bianconeri thought they had been awarded a penalty in the second half, but the assistant referee overruled Marco Guida, having spotted a push by Leo Bonucci.

Juve went on to draw the game 2-2, but the Coach was in no mood to criticise the officials in his post-match Press conference.

“It’s pointless finding excuses, excuses won’t help us tonight,” Allegri said.

“The draw tonight reflects the course of the game. In the first half Atalanta made us suffer physically, I don’t think we won a single 50-50 in the first half.

“In the second half the lads turned it around, then we conceded this goal which Juventus never concede.

“So it’s a result which has to make us think, because on Wednesday in Monaco we’ll come up against a team which is similar to Atalanta.

“The second thing is that the League isn’t totally over, because we still need seven points to reach 91.

“Tonight was an important point, but until the end, until the last match we have to pedal and suffer.

“It’s normal that when you’re coming off a period where everyone tells you that everything is fine, you’re good, you’ll win everything and all the games, that there’s a bit of softness.

“Tonight was a match toward the Scudetto, and as things stand we’ve gained a point on Roma and now we’ll think of Wednesday.

“The penalty? I didn’t speak about it because it’s irrelevant to the result. I could see that it might be if we were down 2-1 and the penalty wasn’t given, even if I never speak about incidents.

“But we were up 2-1, there was a minute to go. It’s not like if we got that penalty we’d have been up 3-1. We need to accept the result, look at our last-minute mistake, then go home and think about Wednesday.

“Ever since I started coaching I’ve never discussed incidents, or I’ve smiled over them, especially with an incident like tonight.

“Everyone could see the penalty, it was there and they didn’t give it to us. But Juventus cannot concede a goal one minute from the end. That’s it. No excuses.”

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri was frustrated after his side let a late lead slip in Friday's 2-2 draw at Atlanta, saying the Serie A leaders "never concede goals like today."

After falling behind early, Juventus rallied to take a 2-1 lead from Dani Alves' header, only for Remo Freuler to score following a defensive mix-up in the 89th minute.

The outcome could have been different had Juventus not had an earlier clear penalty decision ruled out because of offside, but Allegri declined to comment on the incident after the game.

"I won't speak about the [penalty]," Allegri told Premium Sport. "We were in the lead with two minutes to go. The penalty is irrelevant, Juventus have to close out a match after turning it around.

"Juventus never concede goals like today. We've played in two alternative phases, a victory over Roma but we need other points.

"We're on an important journey, we want to close-out the league and a win tonight would have been important for the league."

Juventus widened their lead in Serie to nine points, though it could have been 11 with a win, and Allegri told Sky the Bianconeri missed a chance to seal the trophy.

"The league isn't over, it would have been if we'd won today," he said. "The Scudetto is in our hands, we have to do more than them [Roma]. They can get 90 points, we need at least 91."

Allegri also said the setback could be a positive for the first leg of their Champions League semifinal at Monaco on Wednesday.

"This match will serve to give us awareness against Monaco, a team which plays quickly, we'll have to be good," Allegri said.
