Tuesday night’s quarterfinal clash with Barcelona saw the home side produce a brilliant performance, arguably making it even more special than the semifinal triumph over Real Madrid two years ago. That was a night which will always be remembered fondly by the Juve faithful, but there was something extra magical about Tuesday’s match. Almost as if the ghosts from the 2015 Champions League final were finally starting to be banished. Stuffing Barca 3-0 doesn’t make up for or replace the despondent feelings that final brought about. It’s not until Juventus go the full distance and win the competition that those memories will be laid to rest. But it does make the win last night even more satisfying. In fact, it felt like more than a win. It felt as if this was the night that the club and those associated with it — players, fans, the board, etc. — realised just how possible the ultimate European triumph is. A lot of credit has to go to Max Allegri, who created the perfect blueprint for containing Barca. Juve only had just over 30 percent of possession, but they didn’t need much more. Their defiant defending and efficient finishing was what pushed them over the line Tuesday night. Their dominance wasn’t based on how many passes they completed or how many opportunities they created. It came through the ability to shut out their opponents. That’s impressive to do in any European contest but when it’s against the likes of Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi, it’s quite the achievement. The back five didn’t just keep them scoreless, they made the famed ‘MSN’ look ordinary. They may be three of the most talented attackers in the world but last night, they came up against their match as they were unable to breakdown the stout Bianconeri defense. Per WhoScored.com, Suarez had the least touches of any of his teammates with just 38, with Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini putting in an admirable defensive performance against the centre-forward. Messi may have had more with 68 touches as well as 10 dribbles, but he lost possession 8 times, which shows how ineffective he was. Neymar fared better than his fellow attackers but was hassled and harried all night by the veteran Dani Alves. Barcelona had 804 touches, almost double that of Juventus’ 463, but the home team were only too happy to let them have the ball. Good marking and solid organisation made it hard for Barca to switch play effectively and break away from their opponents. Gonzalo Higuain was poor in front of goal, but defensively he put in a good shift. Looking at his heat map he was in his own half as often as he was in Barca’s half. Mario Mandzukic, ever the hard worker, had a similar showing while Paulo Dybala and Juan Cuadrado were also all over the pitch, ensuring that the technical players of Barcelona had little time or space to pick out a pass to the front three. The front four's combined heatmap (Higuain, Dybala, Cuadrado, Mandzukic) Another important aspect of Allegri’s game plan was how Miralem Pjanic and Sami Khedira were able to handle multiple responsibilities without leaving the back four vulnerable to a counter. Once again, the heat maps show just how varied their jobs were. Though they were primarily expected to operate from their own half in terms of turning defense into attack, whenever the game moved further up the pitch, neither midfielder was shy to follow play. Khedira even had three attempts on goal, and even if none of them were legit goal scoring opportunities, it showed how Juve were constantly trying to add on to their lead while ensuring they kept a clean sheet as well. Sami Khedira and Miralem Pjanic's combined heatmap It's no secret just how much of a shambles Barca's defence can be, and Allegri was keen for Juve to take full advantage of their defensive mishaps. Keeping a clean sheet was the priority but when your opponent has that obvious a flaw, it would be a mistake to not push for more goals. A good example of this is Javier Mascherano picking up Chiellini on set-pieces. How Luis Enrique can justify that is beyond me. It shows just how weak their defending ability is and how unbalanced the La Liga champions as a team are. The absence of Sergio Busquets played a part, of course, but overall the 3 centre-backs seemed to be far too stretched by Juve's attackers. You can ask PSG how a comfortable and dominant first leg victory over Barcelona can prove to be so futile once the return fixture rolls about. Though their unbelievable comeback in the previous round made coming up against the Catalan side even more daunting, it’s a good thing it happened. Max Allegri and his coaching staff will study that game over and over again until next Wednesday night, aiming to prevent any repeat of Barca rising up from an inevitable Champions League exit. The players will be aware of how an early goal at the Nou Camp can change things and will be determined to avoid offering any momentum to their opponents. It may just be “half-time” in the tie, but last night's win has put Juventus in pole position to progress. Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Not all his fault, of course, but a bit his fault ... and a bit more his fault than it was most of those other times. On Tuesday night, Juventus beat Barcelona 3-0 in Turin, virtually eliminating them from the Champions League. Luis Enrique said he felt like he was having a recurring nightmare and appeared to blame some of his players, while there were also Juventus's players at which to point the finger, of course. Paulo Dybala, especially. Plus others, chief among them Gigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini and Alves. Now, it would be tempting to say that Alves is only a right-back, so why bring him up if it wasn't for the fact that for years, people said he wasn't even a right-back? In reality, he was that and more, an attacking one-man-band at Sevilla and a footballing Sonic the Hedgehog at Barcelona. "Dani Alves, right-back" has always felt like one of the most inadequate introductions imaginable. On Tuesday, though, he was -- and yet he should still be brought up. Brilliant in Turin, there's no doubt he was part of the reason Juventus are on the verge of the semifinals and Barcelona aren't. Alves was up against Neymar, the man Cafu insisted was the best player in the world; if that was premature, Ronaldinho recently said he certainly soon will be. Alves, the player who has created more chances than any player left in the Champions League, became a defender and Neymar could not get past him as he has got past so many others, especially as he had torn into Paris Saint-Germain. Mass-marking Lionel Messi often leaves Neymar free but not this time, because his countryman was there. So yes: if Barcelona were beaten and if they are heading out, it is partly Alves' fault. It was a difficult night, Alves admitted. He talked about a "strange feeling." When Dybala scored the first two goals, he turned and ran the other way rather than joining the celebrations. He said afterward that he was pleased at the result -- how could he not be? -- but that he felt a bit of his former teammates' pain too. Judging by the way he embraced them in the tunnel, by the way he reacted when the ball went in, you could believe it too. For Alves, this was victory; it was vindication too, maybe, but it wasn't revenge. Well, not when it came to his teammates, anyway. They always supported him; the coach did as well. But others didn't. "I'm sure Barcelona miss me," Alves said before the game. Some at Barcelona do. Neymar missed not having him close even if by the end of the 90 minutes in Turin, he was sick of having him close. "I have friends in the dressing room, but not like Dani," he admitted. "Alves is Alves. There's no one like him." There were others, though, that couldn't wait to get rid of him. Loud and provocative, Alves speaks out, makes mistakes and shoots his mouth off sometimes. He can seem frivolous with the singing and silliness and the crazy clothes, but he is not really. Neymar suggested that the Barcelona dressing room is "gentler" these days. "Good," most said. But is it good? For all that some saw him as a cartoon character, he was competitive too and that is contagious. You can be both. Yet many saw him as a liability that he simply was not. He was an easy target and so they targeted him. And while of course it is true that he wasn't blameless, he grew tired of it, especially as he felt that it came not just from the fans or the media, but from the top. "Every time a bad thing happened at Barcelona, people scapegoated me. I had enough of being the victim, that's why I left," he admitted. Alves felt that up on a boardroom level, Barcelona didn't want him and he was probably right too. He also admitted that he had delivered a "blow with class" when he left, getting them back. "Admitted"? Boasted, more like. He had been pretty pleased with himself, in truth. And while it was understandable, it sat a little uneasily. You also wondered if he was going sooner than he really wanted to just so he could make a point. If so, it's been made. Alves, right, was a constant force in Juve's win vs. Barca, even keeping in-form Neymar relatively quiet. Barcelona's board have "no idea how to treat players," Alves claimed. Although they "never said anything to my face," he didn't think it was a coincidence that it was always him people were talking about selling, a player who appeared to be halfway out the door as if it was all his fault. In Catalonia, where certain media represent certain interests, that feeling could only be enhanced. Those interests are something about which players are acutely aware. Alves complained that they only offered him a contract extension when they suffered the FIFA ban and had no choice. So he signed but with a clause that let him walk away free, which he did. "I want people to want me and if they don't, I go," he said. Barcelona had been caught out but many didn't care as they'd wanted him out for years. He had thought he was going before the Champions League final two years ago and even announced his departure by singing: "it's time to go, bye bye!" When he said so, he stood accused of destabilising them at a crucial time but they won the final, which is what teams with Alves in them tend to do. Because, you know, he is a liability even though he's reached 31 finals in 11 years. He may reach another before the season is out. At times the criticism was bitter and pointed, even unpleasant. There were plenty who had wanted shot of him for ages, as if getting rid of him would resolve everything, when getting rid of him could only make things worse. He walked away and they celebrated it. Fools. When he went, some fans and observers could hardly contain their glee; when Sergi Roberto played well at right-back, Alves' position, at the start of the season, that glee spilled out all over the place. Gloating time. "Who remembers Dani Alves?" asked one pretty representative headline, remembering Alves. Roberto did not just play well, according to endless reports; he made everyone forget that other bloke. What was his name? Messi had warned that it would be hard to find someone like Alves but here, they had him. Someone who was better, in fact. That's what they believed, or wanted to believe. A poll in El Mundo Deportivo asked if Roberto had made them forget Alves. Not "has Sergi Roberto played well?" They asked "has he made you forget Alves?" A whopping 92.56 percent said yes. Some reports were written fondly -- a measure of how good Roberto was that he could successfully replace someone who had achieved so much, the best right-back in the club's history -- while others were written with a more malevolent tone: Goodbye and good riddance, see how he was never all that? A liability, not a player for a top club, certainly not any more, aged 31. No one will miss him. Barcelona will win without him; he won't win without Barcelona. Oh. Think Barca miss him now? Is this opportunistic? You bet it is, but that doesn't make it wrong. It may be unfair on Roberto, but ignore him for a minute: This really isn't about him and it's not his fault that he's not Alves. It may be unfair on Barca too -- after all, Roberto was playing well, there's no doubt, and his contribution has been significant. This season has been a good one for him, so they were right to highlight that. It may be an exaggeration and it may be a cheap shot too, perhaps even a risky one tempting fate -- Alves might be disastrous at the Camp Nou and Juve could still go out, who knows? -- but after Tuesday it is irresistible. Tuesday night? After the season he has had, it is even more irresistible. After the season that Barcelona have had, it is too. This is not just one night; it's not even just one season, in fact. This goes back well over a decade now and even injury, even at his age, didn't end it for him. UEFA ran a list recently of which players have the most titles in the whole of Europe. Only Andrés Iniesta and Ryan Giggs, two one-club men at dominant clubs, are ahead of Alves; currently on his third club, Alves is only one title behind. It is likely that he won't be behind at all pretty soon. It is not chance and it is not just about talented teammates. Juventus are top of the league, in the final of the Coppa Italia and they have one foot in the semifinal of the Champions League. Barcelona, by contrast, are on edge, and even their manager admits he finds it hard to believe in a comeback now, not least because they are up against a better defence than PSG's, one that has Alves in it. This was not the way it was supposed to be. It was not the way it used to be, either. Alves was wearing black and white, for a start but hey, at least he was there, a handy reminder for those who had forgotten him. He was ready to take the blame too, just for old times' sake. Real Madrid (no change) They only drew 1-1 on derby day vs. Atletico, but the point earned actually stretched their lead atop La Liga, thanks to Barcelona's defeat at Malaga. In midweek, Cristiano Ronaldo was the star of the show, scoring twice to inspire Madrid's 2-1 comeback win at Bayern Munich. 2. Juventus (no change) After Gonzalo Higuain netted twice to move Juve three points closer to the Serie A title, his fellow Argentinean forward Paulo Dybala starred vs. Barcelona. The 23-year-old's two goals came as part of a 3-0 win that surely sets them up for safe passage into the Champions League semifinals. 3. Bayern Munich (no change) A week that began with a resounding 4-1 win over Dortmund looked to be getting better as Arturo Vidal stood over a penalty with a chance to put Bayern 2-0 up vs. Real Madrid. But he blasted over, whereupon Carlo Ancelotti's side imploded to suffer a 2-1 defeat. 4. Chelsea (+1) Tottenham thumped Watford to put some semblance of pressure on the Premier League leaders, but Antonio Conte's side responded like champions, sweeping aside Bournemouth 3-1. Chelsea fans will fancy moving closer to the title with a win against Jose Mourinho's Man United this weekend. 5. Atletico Madrid (+1) As he has been so often in recent seasons, Antoine Griezmann was Atletico's go-to man this past week. After scoring a late equaliser at the Bernabeu to secure a draw against rivals Real, he was the man on the spot to net the penalty that secured a 1-0 win vs. Leicester. 6. Tottenham (+1) They might not win the title this season, but if you're a Spurs fan, there's plenty to be excited about. The 4-0 thrashing of Watford was the 11th straight at home in league for Mauricio Pochettino's men and featured yet another superb Dele Alli goal. 7. Monaco (+3) Leonardo Jardim's young side show no sign of feeling the pressure, either at home or abroad. Monaco maintained their three-point lead in Ligue 1 with a 1-0 win at Angers, before Kylian Mbappe starred again in the 3-2 Champions League win at Dortmund. 8. AS Roma (no change) Sunday's 3-0 win against Bologna was Roma's 11th in 13 league games since the start of 2017. That would be title-winning form in many other leagues. Given that they still have to face Juventus at home, maybe it still can be, despite the long odds? 9. Barcelona (-5) Barcelona's rough week sees them make the sharpest plummet down the table. After losing 2-0 to Malaga with their minds arguably preoccupied with the Champions League test in midweek, they then crashed to a 3-0 defeat in Juventus that leaves them as a massive underdog to reach the semifinals. Then again, we remember what they did to Paris Saint-Germain ... 10. Borussia Dortmund (-1) Dortmund dip slightly after a difficult week on and off the pitch. The 4-1 loss to Bayern on Saturday was of no real consequence, given their focus on securing a top-three finish, while Thomas Tuchel's side showed remarkable fortitude in Wednesday's rescheduled 3-2 defeat vs. Monaco not even 24 hours after the bus attack that put Marc Bartra in hospital. All things considered, it was a performance of real spirit that should be applauded. Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Following the loss in Turin, local media criticised the Barca coach for his decision to start Jeremy Mathieu in the back three and to push Javier Mascherano into midfield for the suspended Sergio Busquets. Luis Enrique appeared to acknowledge the mistakes himself at the Juventus Stadium, replacing Mathieu with Andre Gomes at half-time and allowing Mascherano to drop back into defence. However, speaking at a news conference on Friday ahead of Saturday's La Liga game against Real Sociedad, he refused to blame his side's misgivings on tactical flaws. "I am in charge and I am responsible for the bad things which happen to the team," Luis Enrique said. "If I didn't get my ideas across to the players it's because [I was] incapable. I get angry when I don't reach my objectives. But in Turin I did not make a single tactical error." Luis Enrique was downbeat after the Juve game -- even more so than after the 4-0 first-leg defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the previous round -- and effectively almost threw in the towel in his postmatch interview with TV3. But having had three days to reflect on events in Italy, he made a U-turn on Friday and suggested Barca are capable of producing another remarkable comeback, having beat PSG 6-5 on aggregate to reach the quarterfinals. "People tend to take comments straight after games very literally, but they're conditioned by what has just happened," he said in reference to suggesting a turnaround against Juve would not be possible. "We're professionals; we know things can change quickly. I have no doubt that we have a chance to turn around the tie -- look what happened after Paris. "It's about getting back to winning ways and doing things right, starting with [Real Sociedad] on Saturday. Then we will think about the Champions League." In a long news conference which focused on the fallout from the Juve game, Luis Enrique said this is not the worst moment during his three years in charge, but did not want to refer to his preseason comments that this is the best squad he has ever had at his disposal. "At the start of the season I wanted to give you quotes you like, surprise you a little," he said. "Now you bring them back out ... the answer is simple: I will answer that at the end of the season." Before facing Juve on Wednesday, Barca welcome Sociedad to the Camp Nou on Saturday. They will be without Neymar, who is serving a three-game ban, while Mascherano and Arda Turan are both fitness doubts. "The players only have the Real Sociedad game on their mind," Luis Enrique said when asked if Juve's visit could be a distraction. "The players have played against La Real, they know the difficulties they represent. Our chances of winning the league hinge on doing well tomorrow." After last week's 2-0 defeat to Malaga, Barca could be six points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid by the time they kick off on Saturday, with Zinedine Zidane's side due to play away at Sporting Gijon earlier in the day. The Bianconeri face Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League tie on Wednesday, so will rotate the squad to face the relegation battlers. The Old Lady’s Coach addressed the media in his pre-match Press conference today, and began with a message for Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani, after Milan were sold yesterday. “Before the conference, since I didn’t get a chance to do it yesterday, I’d like to say a thanks to President Berlusconi and to Galliani for the opportunity they gave me to Coach and to win with Milan,” Allegri said. “Italian football will definitely miss them, they made history in Italian football. So I salute both the President and Mr Galliani with great affection. “As for tomorrow’s game, it means a lot to us as it’s worth three points. It’s a game where, if I’m not mistaken, Juventus have previously taken a beating in Pescara after a European game [5-1 in 1992-93]. “So tomorrow we must be focused, because the most important game between now and the end of the season is always the next one, so after Barcelona the most important game is now Pescara. “Pescara are a team who are playing really well right now, they run and they play to hurt their opponents, so they’re not a team who will sit back and we need to be good at handling this type of game. “Tomorrow Neto will play in goal, then [Paulo] Dybala will play, as will [Mario] Mandzukic and [Gonzalo] Higuain. “Some players will be rested. [Sami] Khedira won’t play, [Leonardo] Bonucci is suspended so he won’t be there. “Tomorrow we need to show that even if there are a lot of changes, as there have been in recent games, you always have to get the result. That’s what counts. “So tomorrow we need to play a correct match, we need to be calm and take advantage of the opportunities which we will get. “Juan Cuadrado? I’m having doubts over whether he or [Mario] Lemina will play on the right. "[Andrea] Barzagli will start, the doubt is between [Medhi] Benatia and [Daniele] Rugani. “[Moise] Kean is not yet ready, he’s had some good training sessions but he’s not with the team yet. “We’re thinking about winning the game tomorrow, then we’ll have four days to prepare for the Barcelona game.” http://www.goal.com/en/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=TP_TN_110 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

The Bianconeri Coach scored against them for already-relegated Pescara in the 1992-93 season, in a match which saw the Old Lady thrashed 5-1. “We were already relegated and it ended 5-1,” Allegri recalled in his pre-match Press conference. “That shows that these games are traps. Traps if you don’t face them in the right way, they aren’t traps if you have the right determination. “The lads are very responsible, we had a good training session this morning and I think the team will play an intense match tomorrow, physically, mentally and - this is what counts - technically to take three points. “What do I remember? I scored one or two goals, it was a strange game. I think Juventus were coming off a UEFA Cup game or something like that, or they had it to come. “I remember that we were relegated but we played pretty well, when those kind of teams are playing with no more pressure to get a result, you have everything to lose if you don’t face them in the right way. “That’s why we have to do well.” Allegri was keen to focus on the Pescara match, but his side face Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday. “It’s normal that after the game on Tuesday, a 3-0 win over Barcelona which doesn’t happen often, there’s a wave of enthusiasm and excitement. “That’s what makes it the most dangerous moment. “As with everything we can’t live on excitement, but on enthusiasm, desire and even depression when things go badly, as long as it’s balanced. “We played the first game and it went well, but we still have to face the return in Barcelona where we’ll need to play better than we did on Tuesday. “It was an important result, but not definitive. So we have to get our feet back on the ground and the lads realised that quickly. “It’s normal that there’s enthusiasm from everyone, but enthusiasm is one thing and getting carried away is another. “In football you can hurry to be the best in the world and quite quickly become the laughing stock of the world. So we need to be balanced. “You can win or lose in football, but what’s important is balance, because being balanced will always lead to success.” http://www.goal.com/en/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=TP_TN_110 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

The Coach switched to a formation which can accommodate all of his strikers after a loss to Fiorentina, and the Bianconeri have lost just one game since. “It’s not the most important thing,” Allegri shrugged in his Press conference ahead of the Pescara match. “It’s a long year, there are times where you do one thing and times where you do another, during a game you might do one thing and then have to switch to something else in the course of it. “I made the choice after the Fiorentina match because I thought it was right to give something more to the team, and to allow the team to express its full potential. “Above all, novelty always brings enthusiasm. “The lads did well, because at the end of the day when you have a group of lads who all make themselves available, it’s easier to get results. “Above all, Juventus are distinguished from the others by important moral values.” Paulo Dybala signed a new contract with the Old Lady yesterday, and praised Allegri for gradually introducing him last season. “First of all, Paulo’s words pleased me but the credit is all his. “I only gave him indications, what he could do, where he could grow and where he can grow again, because he has huge potential for improvement. “Paulo and Neymar will definitely become the world stars of the future.” http://www.goal.com/en/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=TP_TN_110 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

The Delfini face the Old Lady tomorrow, and the Czech Coach is well-known for his criticisms of the Turin side. Having accused the Bianconeri of doping their players in the 90s, he felt vindicated by the Calciopoli scandal. “I’m not the enemy of Juve,” Zeman noted in his pre-match Press conference. “I’m the enemy of those who cheat. Just look at the files in the Prosecutor’s office. “Facing Juve is not like facing the others, because they’ve been the best for years. They made a big impression in me in the Champions League, it’s not easy to crush Barcelona. “They’re an organised club off the pitch too, they’re on the forefront. They have money and organisation. “Right now in Italy it’s only Juve who can buy €100m champions and that makes a difference. The Catalan side's task won't be made any easier with the news that Neymar will be absent through suspension; the Brazilian was sent-off against Malaga, and after applauding the fourth official on his way off the pitch, he has been handed an extended ban. Still three points behind with a game more played, Barcelona cannot afford anything other than victory in the Bernabeu to keep their title hopes alive—so how can they see off their rivals without one of their most in-form and spectacular attacking outlets? Tactical Solution, Part 1: 4-3-3 and Replacing Scoring Chances First up, Luis Enrique has to decide between two formations: the 4-3-3 that has habitually been Barca's template, or the 3-4-3 he has switched the team to of late, particularly for the big games. In truth, the tactical switch hasn't paid off for Barca, and it asks a lot of the likes of Sergi Roberto to cover extra ground. Moving back to 4-3-3 might be the better option for the players to be more comfortable in their roles, and certainly Barca looked better against Juve in the second half once they had reverted to that system. Should Lucho opt for that, he needs a replacement left forward, with the midfield able to contain the usual faces—and with Rafinha injured, that should mean Arda Turan steps in. The Turk hasn't been involved of late after picking up an injury at the end of March, but he's due to return before El Clasico and, fitness permitting, should be the starter ahead of Paco Alcacer or Denis Suarez, or an additional midfield option. Turan has 13 goals this season, mostly coming from the left side of attack, and in league play, he posts more key passes per game than any other Barca player outside the regular front three (per WhoScored), and only Neymar, Leo Messi and Andres Iniesta complete more dribbles per game. That kind of incision and offensive intent will be paramount at the Bernabeu, and Turan deserves the nod. Tactical Solution, Part 2: 3-4-3 and Maintaining Better Balance Of course, if Lucho sticks with his 3-4-3, then it's a different matter, with a different set of responsibilities to help cover the left side. With Barca struggling at times to cope with the fluidity of the system—three at the back on the ball, dropping back into a back four out of possession with the midfielders tucking in from out—the best bet might be to bring in a balancing act on the side of midfield in Jordi Alba. The left-back has the physical prowess and pace to get up and down the flank and, while his technical ability might not be on par with Ivan Rakitic and Co., he offers an outlet, cover on the wing against Real's pacy forwards and can overlap the frontman. In turn, that would allow Iniesta to reprise his old role of playing on the left of the front three. He's not likely to offer an enormous goal threat, but his intelligence and creativity on the ball is undiminished, and it could work in Barcelona's favour to either free up more space for Luis Suarez to exploit or else to leave that gap ahead for Alba to penetrate from deep. Iniesta will work relentlessly, will track back into midfield and allow Barcelona the opportunity to overload Real Madrid in the middle third, while certainly not giving a drop-off to the attacking line in terms of creating chances. Set-Piece Delivery Neymar's goal threat has been somewhat reduced this season, with nine strikes in La Liga, but it's not on account of his all-round game being poor. Indeed, he has elevated his level once again this year, and part of that has resulted in the Brazilian creating huge volumes of chances for his team-mates. With 10 assists in La Liga, only team-mate Luis Suarez and Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos have more (both 11), and Neymar and Kroos share one trait in common: They both take tremendous set pieces, with the delivery accurate and fired in at pace. No Neymar means no right-footed delivery from free-kicks; while Messi will still take control from the opposite side, Barca should hand over duty from Neymar's half of the pitch to Suarez. The striker had an incredible rate of finding the back of the net from dead balls while at Liverpool, and even at Barca, where the chances are few and far between to take over around the edge of the box, he has already netted from similar situations. On corners, it depends somewhat on the lineup, but only Real Madrid have scored more off set pieces than Barca this season, so continuing that fine delivery could be critical in splitting the fine margins between the sides. Supply Line to the Frontmen Barcelona average 14.8 shots per game away from home this season, with Neymar averaging just under three key passes per away match. That's around a fifth of their shooting opportunities stemming directly from his lay-offs, dribbles or incisive passes—and that's not counting those actions he does that allow a team-mate in turn to make the final pass before a shot. Neymar plays a huge role in Barca's buildup play, and the emphasis must be on the midfield line stepping up to bear more responsibility in El Clasico, not just relying on Messi to create magic. Rakitic was one of the league's standout players last year, but he has been well off the pace recently and before that wasn't even in the XI. Andre Gomes has barely put a foot right in 2017 and Denis, while still reasonably inexperienced, only seems to impact in fits and starts still. Someone has to not just set the tempo for Barca from the middle third, but also be brave and positive enough to drive forward and open up spaces. Only then will Messi and Suarez be able to deliver their final-third prowess with regularity, rather than having to combine themselves to create everything. Controlling Spaces Attacking is only one half of the match, though, and as was shown against Juventus, closing out spaces when teams counter-attack or press Barcelona high is imperative. Sergio Busquets was missed in the first leg, and his natural ability to step across challenges, close out the passing lanes and spot runners from deep will be pivotal in helping Barca overcome Los Blancos. Whether 4-3-3 or 3-4-3, he'll be in place at the base of midfield and needs to be completely on top of his game, which hasn't always been the case this season. Real's first-choice midfield trio—Casemiro, Kroos, Luka Modric—have a fine mix of skills between them, with movement and the ability to quickly spring counters chief among them. Busquets is the one responsible for not allowing those moments of danger to develop, but he needs his support act in the middle to work tremendously hard alongside him. Barcelona must score to win, but their away record is not good of late: 13 conceded in the last six games, no clean sheet in seven on the road and only two wins in that span. Defeat, or even a draw, is unthinkable if they want to overhaul Real Madrid and win the league this season, and that means near-perfection is required off the ball as well as replacing Neymar in the attack. After eight seasons at Barca, Alves left for Juventus on a free transfer last summer, following Xavi, who had departed for Qatar the year before, out the Camp Nou exit door. Despite nearly two years passing since his last game for the Blaugrana, Xavi, who came through La Masia and made 767 first-team appearances, remains something of a spokesman for the Catalan club "Obviously I would bring back Dani Alves," Xavi said in an interview with Goal focusing on Barcelona's Champions League quarterfinal tie with Juventus. "He decided to leave, but for me he is the best right-back in the world at the moment. Barca miss him a lot." Alves gave Barca a glimpse of what they are missing on Tuesday, keeping Neymar on the fringes of the game as his new side comfortably beat his former employers 3-0 in Turin. Barca coach Luis Enrique was keen to keep hold of Alves last summer, but the Brazilian took the decision into his own hands and has since explained his reasoning for seeking a new challenge. "I didn't feel as comfortable any more at Barca," he said in an interview with FIFA.com earlier this week. "Things changed at a club level and as time went on I always seemed to be the one in the firing line. 'Dani's the one who has to go,' they'd say. I just got tired of it. I decided to head off in a new direction and find happiness somewhere else." Juve's win over Barca has prompted talk in the Catalan media of a "revolution" at the club this summer. Xavi also lent his support to the hypothetical signings of Paulo Dybala and Marco Verratti. "Dybala's the Juve player with the most talent," he said of the Argentine international, who scored two of the Old Lady's goals against Barcelona. "[Gonzalo] Higuain can also score a goal at any moment, but I think the most talented player at Juve is Dybala. He would be a good option for Barca in the future." On Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Verratti, he added: "He would be ideal for Barca. He has the ability to play at Barcelona, no doubt. I think he has a lot of the qualities that I have as a player." It’s a long year, there are times where you do one thing and times where you do another, during a game you might do one thing and then have to switch to something else in the course of it. “Above all, Juventus are distinguished from the others by important moral values.” Allegri was highly complimented by Paulo Dybala, who signed a brand new deal with Juve yesterday. “First of all, Paulo’s words pleased me but the credit is all his. “I only gave him indications, what he could do, where he could grow and where he can grow again, because he has huge potential for improvement. “Paulo and Neymar will definitely become the world stars of the future.” As far as the squad for Saturday - “As for tomorrow’s game, it means a lot to us as it’s worth three points. “Tomorrow Neto will play in goal, then Paulo Dybala will play, as will Mario Mandzukic and Gonzalo Higuain. Some players will be rested. Sami Khedira won’t play, Leonardo Bonucci is suspended so he won’t be there. “Tomorrow we need to show that even if there are a lot of changes, as there have been in recent games, you always have to get the result. That’s what counts. We need to play a correct match, we need to be calm and take advantage of the opportunities which we will get. “Juan Cuadrado? I’m having doubts over whether he or Mario Lemina will play on the right. Andrea Barzagli will start, the doubt is between Medhi Benatia and Daniele Rugani. Moise Kean is not yet ready, he’s had some good training sessions but he’s not with the team yet. “We’re thinking about winning the game tomorrow, then we’ll have four days to prepare for the Barcelona game.” Allegri’s former club AC Milan was sold to Chinese investors yesterday, and this is what Max had to say about the sale - “Before the conference, since I didn’t get a chance to do it yesterday, I’d like to say a thanks to President Berlusconi and to Galliani for the opportunity they gave me to Coach and to win with Milan. “Italian football will definitely miss them, they made history in Italian football. So I salute both the President and Mr Galliani with great affection.” http://www.goal.com/en/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=TP_TN_110 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

The Bianconeri delivered what we have been asking them for quite some time: to be assertive, imposing against an European powerhouse in Champions League. While obviously the Blaugrana were dangerous from time to time due to their incredible talent, and it would not be a great Juve match without a stunning Gianluigi Buffon save like the one against Andres Iniesta, the result was perfect, the first half impeccable. Unfortunately, considering what happened to PSG, we still have to sweat for few days to be sure about advancing to the semi-finals, but we can be optimistic. There is a match before that and the opponent is Pescara. Every game is worth three points and with Roma lurking, Juventus need to take care of business once again in Serie A. It will be very hard to not think ahead to Wednesday, but this is where the coaching staff needs to step in and maintain the focus on the task on hand. It looks like there will be a complete overhaul of the lineup to keep the men that will be fielded at Camp Nou fresh. Leonardo Bonucci is conveniently suspended: he will be replaced by Andrea Barzagli. Along with him there will be either Daniele Rugani or Medhi Benatia: Giorgio Chiellini played his best game of the season when it was needed the most and capped it off with a gorgeous header, his physicality will be sorely needed next week. Changes on the flanks as well: Stephan Lichtsteiner and Kwadwo Asamoah will start. The Ghanaian almost played against Barcelona as well and that would have been a nice recognition for the work he has done in the past few weeks, but I am glad Alex Sandro featured and put together a monster performance against Leo Messi, containing him almost to perfection. Miralem Pjanic has been carefully managed over the last two months and I have the suspicion that he is dealing with some nagging stuff. Sami Khedira has played in almost every game and will be given a day off. So, it looks like we are headed for a new couple in the midfield: Claudio Marchisio and Tomas Rincon, unless the Bosnian playmaker finally plays two games in a row. As we know, the alternatives are scarce upfront. Mario Mandzukic, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain will feature from the kick-off, as confirmed in the pre-game presser. Juan Cuadrado could rest, with Mario Lemina taking his place. Neto will play for Buffon. What a couple of days for La Joya: first he shone against Barcelona and his idol Messi, then he penned a five-year extension with the club. He is now reportedly the top earner in the squad alongside Higuain: a much deserved raise that will hopefully keep him in Turin for many seasons to come. Probable lineup: 4-2-3-1: Neto; Lichtsteiner, Barzagli, Rugani, Asamoah; Rincon, Marchisio; Lemina, Dybala, Mandzukic; Higuain. Injuries: Pjaca (knee), Kean (ankle), Khedira (rest), Buffon (rest). Suspensions: Bonucci. Pescara The situation in Pescara is desperate: they are in last position, nine points behind Empoli. Last week, they failed to win the head-to-head match and thus they did not get any closer to avoiding relegation. They have recently hired Zdenek Zeman but his spark pretty much died out after a win against a struggling Genoa. It seems like they appointed him more to evaluate some youngsters ahead of the next season in Serie B than to save the club this year. They adopted his usual 4-3-3 style but they have not many dynamic players that suit the Czech coach’s playing style. They have tried the usual move in January: adding a bunch of veterans who have been in this situation before and could maybe help out with their experience. It turned out that most of them were washed up: Alberto Gilardino immediately hurt his knee and never played again, Cesare Bovo and Guglielmo Stendardo have missed time with injuries as well. They have drawn against Milan as well, but so far it has been an uninspiring stint for Zeman. They will be without Stendardo, who is dealing with a foot injury, Gilardino, Cesare Bovo, Davide Vitturini and Simone Pepe on Saturday. There is not much clarity about the ailment of the former Juventus fan favourite, but he recently spoke like a player who is ready to retire. They have launched Mamadou Coulibaly in the midfield in place of Valerio Verre, who has already been purchased by Sampdoria. His agent promptly stated that he is worth three Paul Pogbas, not putting any pressure on him at all. Juventus are already on his trails: it will be a nice chance to scout him directly, maybe it will be a similar situation to what happened with Rolando Mandragora. Jean-Cristophe Bahebeck is dealing with some muscle fatigue and missed the last game: Alberto Cerri could take his spot. Ahmad Benali has had flu-like symptoms and he is reportedly not going to recover, although he made it in the squad list: they have few offensive options, like Gaston Brugan, Alexandru Mitrita and Robert Muric, but I think it is likely that they advance Francesco Zampano, like they have done against Atalanta, and insert Alessandro Crescenzi in the defence. Hugo Armando Campagnaro, Michele Fornasier and Andrea Coda are battling for the two CB’s spots. The fullbacks Zampano, Cristiano Biraghi and Crescenzi have been pretty much their only positive notes beside Gianluca Caprari, who has had a decent season and is set to be used as bargaining chip by Inter this summer. They midfield should be composed by Coulibaly, Sulley Muntari and Ledian Memushaj: a very muscular trio. Their defence has been dismal this season, but they have recently drawn with Milan at home, where they play with a little more intensity. They attack a lot, not with the most efficacy but at least they give an effort on that end, so some precaution is needed. Probable lineup: 4-3-3: Fiorillo; Crescenzi, Campagnaro, Coda, Biraghi; Coulibaly, Muntari, Memushaj; Zampano, Cerri, Caprari. Injuries: Stendardo (foot), Gilardino (knee), Pepe, Vitturini. After gaining two respectable draws against Milan and most recently Empoli, Pescara will now have to face the formidable Serie A leaders. With the hosts almost surely relegated, a home game against the champions will be the last thing that Zdenek Zeman’s side would have wanted. Pescara, currently bottom of Serie A, will know that it will take an absolute miracle to get a victory this weekend, and it’ll take a herculean effort to even gain a point, given the form of both sides. The two 1-1 draws in recent weeks for the Delfini meant that they weren’t officially relegated, given that their opponents last weekend Empoli have been on a free-fall in recent weeks, but if results go against Pescara this weekend, they will find it virtually impossible to survive in what has been a forgettable return to the Italian top flight. The injury list for Pescara doesn’t give much hope either, with Guglielmo Stendardo, Davide Vitturini, ex-Juventus man Simone Pepe and Alberto Gilardino all out through injury, meaning that Zeman will have a bit of a selection headache this Sunday, and not a very pleasant one. Juventus, on the other hand, come into this clash off the back of a season-defining victory over Barcelona, putting them in a very good position going into next week’s second leg. A very comfortable victory last weekend against Chievo meant that the Bianconeri maintained their lead at the top of the table to six points over second-place Roma and 10 points clear of third placed Napoli. The champions have been able to grind out results in recent weeks, but the danger is that massive squad rotation and distraction ahead of the Camp Nou trip could cause problems. Marko Pjaca will continue to miss out due to his cruciate ligament injury, but Mario Mandzukic may also miss the clash after suffering a bit of a knock against Barcelona on Tuesday evening. Leonardo Bonucci is suspended, so a few changes in the Juventus side are expected. Keep an eye on: Paulo Dybala (Juventus) – After his incredible performance against Barcelona, all eyes will be on the Argentinian, who may relish a game like this and could prove to be match winner once again. Form Guide: Pescara (D D L L L) Juventus (W D W W W) Last season: Not played Stat Fact: Pescara last defeated Juventus back in 1993, when beating Giovanni Trapattoni’s side 5-1, despite Juve having the likes of Antonio Conte, Roberto Baggio, Paolo Di Canio and Fabrizio Ravanelli in their line-up. It kicks off at the Stadio Adriatico at 15.00 CET - 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT). The Bianconeri are fresh from a 3-0 demolition of Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-final, but as Paris Saint-Germain learned last month, the Blaugrana don’t give up. With the second leg on Wednesday, Max Allegri has to walk a fine line between resting star players and ensuring the six-point lead at the top of the Serie A table remains untouched. Higuain and brace hero Dybala therefore stay in the starting XI with Mario Mandzukic, Juan Cuadrado and Miralem Pjanic, but Dani Alves, Alex Sandro and Giorgio Chiellini are rested. There’s no choice for Leonardo Bonucci, who sits out a ban, so Daniele Rugani steps in with Andrea Barzagli. Gigi Buffon and Sami Khedira haven’t even made the journey down south. Pescara might be propping up the table, but their recent form has taken a turn for the better with draws against Milan and Empoli. It’s always a special game against Zeman, the man who has bitterly criticised Juve over the years and even sparked an investigation into their medical staff by suggesting players had gained muscle mass suspiciously quickly. Cesare Bovo is suspended, joining Alberto Gilardino, Davide Vitturini and Guglielmo Stendardo in the stands. Ahmad Benali is struggling with flu symptoms and was a doubt to the last minute, and indeed he has not been deemed fit enough for the starting XI. The Bianconeri were fresh from a 3-0 Champions League quarter-final victory over Barcelona and rested several key players ahead of Wednesday’s second leg at Camp Nou. Leonardo Bonucci was suspended, but Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic and Gonzalo Higuain kept their places. Pescara were bottom of Serie A, but had drawn with Milan and Empoli coming into this clash. Cesare Bovo sat out a ban with Alberto Gilardino, Davide Vitturini, Guglielmo Stendardo and flu-ridden Ahmad Benali. Zdenek Zeman’s men were fired up, so within the opening three minutes Gaston Brugman had tested Neto and Sulley Muntari was booked for a crunching tackle on Dybala. The deadlock was broken when Juan Cuadrado first forced a save from Vincenzo Fiorillo, then pulled the loose ball back for unmarked Gonzalo Higuain to tap in. That was his 200th League goal in Europe between La Liga and Serie A (107 for Real Madrid, 71 Napoli and 22 Juventus). Higuain’s spectacular flick and volley was deflected on to the side-netting, but his other goal did arrive when Mario Mandzukic knocked down a Miralem Pjanic chipped pass for Higuain to slide in. The young Argentinian took plenty of abuse from the opposition during the match, and an injury seemed to be coming. While the severity of the issue isn't clear at this point, any knock is bad news with an eye on the return match against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League in midweek. Dybala has grown into a crucial figure at the Juventus Stadium since his arrival at the club in the summer of 2015. The former Palermo man is one of the most exciting forwards in Serie A. His creativity in possession, dynamic running and finishing ability has made him a fearsome proposition for opposition defenders. Indeed, without Dybala, Juventus are not as inventive in the final third. While Gonzalo Higuain is a poacher extraordinaire and Mario Mandzukic is a physical force, they lack an explosiveness on the ball that the No. 21 brings. Without Dybala, there's an extra onus on Mandzukic and Higuain to get goals for the Bianconeri. In terms of creativity, Miralem Pjanic, Juan Cuadrado and Claudio Marchisio also have more responsibility without the 23-year-old in the side. Sturaro could also shift out wide, allowing Mandzukic to move into a central role. As such, Juve do have a squad that can cope without Dybala, especially in Serie A. However, manager Massimiliano Allegri will be keen to get the forward back on the field as soon as possible to provide an extra edge to the team's attacking play. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=TP_TN_110 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

While Massimiliano Allegri rested six from his team's midweek European triumph, Higuain and Dybala - the latter of whom netted twice in the 3-0 first-leg win - both kept their places. Higuain took centre stage as he peppered the Pescara goal with shots in the opening 45 minutes and twice beat goalkeeper Vincenzo Fiorillo, but Dybala's second-half knock gave Allegri cause for concern just four days before a trip to Camp Nou. Although the 23-year-old tried to play on after an apparent blow to his ankle in a 47th-minute challenge with Sulley Muntari, he again went down and was replaced by Stefano Sturaro shortly afterwards to leave Juve worrying over their forward's fitness. The champions' title defence was at least boosted as the bottom-of-the-table side rarely threatened after a bright start, while second-placed Roma's draw against Atalanta saw the Bianconeri's gap at the top stretched to eight points with six games remaining. Gaston Brugman's snapshot brought a save from Neto after just eight seconds and the energetic hosts stretched an unfamiliar Juve backline in the early stages. But Allegri's men soon found their feet and Higuain squared for Mario Mandzukic to test Fiorillo from close range, before the Argentina international fired off target. The breakthrough arrived for Juve in the 22nd minute, with Juan Cuadrado swiftly pouncing on the rebound from his own low shot to tee up Higuain for a simple finish into an open goal. As Juve continued to build momentum, Fiorillo saved well after Higuain created space for a shot with an inventive piece of skill on the right, before the brilliant Cuadrado picked out Mandzukic, who headed over. Two minutes before half-time, Higuain prodded in a second as he stretched onto Mandzukic's knockdown ahead of Fiorillo. The goalkeeper was able to keep Dybala at bay with a smart stop moments later and there was concern for the Juve forward at the start of the second half as he went down under a heavy challenge from Muntari and was later withdrawn. Dybala scored twice as Juve downed Barca 3-0 in their quarter-final, first leg, but a knock in Serie A action has his participation in the return fixture in doubt. However, speaking after the 2-0 league victory at the Stadio Adriatico, in which Gonzalo Higuain scored twice, Allegri was hopeful Dybala would recover in time to travel to Camp Nou. "Dybala took a blow, there is a distortion," the Juve coach told Mediaset Premium. "But, with four days to recuperate before Barcelona, you have to be optimistic." Juve are now eight points clear of second-placed Roma - with Luciano Spalletti's men held by Atalanta - but Allegri insists the title race is not over as he turns his attention towards Barca. "We have to get to 91 points - Roma can do 90," he said. "Now we have to think about Wednesday [against Barca]. A first-half brace from Gonzalo Higuain was enough for the league leaders to seal all three points, a result that left Pescara 12 points from safety with six matches to play. Juventus dictated the possession in the early stages of the game and it did not take long for the visitors to test Pescara goalkeeper Vincenzo Fiorillo with Mario Mandzukic's powerful header being denied by a wonderful save on 10 minutes. Higuain screwed a shot well wide from the edge of the area before Cristiano Biraghi threatened at the other end but dragged his effort wide of Neto's goal. Juve were soon in front on 22 minutes when a mazy run from Juan Cuadrado created some space for the Colombian to fire in a shot, which Fiorillo saved, but the rebound fell back at the feet of the winger who squared it across for Higuain to tap into an empty net. The Argentinian was thwarted again by the busy Fiorillo after he broke the offside trap to latch onto a through ball inside the penalty box but the goalkeeper could not stop the striker from scoring again just before the break. A free-flowing move worked its way to Miralem Pjanic on the edge of the area before he curled a precise cross to Mandzukic at the far post, who nodded down to Higuain, who was the quickest to react and prod in his 25th Serie A goal of the season. After the break, Juventus utilised their two-goal cushion to control the tempo of the match and conserve their energy ahead of next week's Champions League quarter-final second leg at Barcelona with Pjanic coming off. There was concern for the visitors when Paulo Dybala was caught by a late tackle and had to be replaced by Stefano Sturaro and the substitute got straight into the action with a left-footed strike that was stopped by Fiorillo. Claudio Marchisio blazed over from 20 yards out following a quick counter-attack for the visitors, while a Biraghi free-kick on 86 minutes tested Neto's hands for the first time of a one-sided match. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=TP_TN_110 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

The forward had to be substituted after 54 minutes of the win over Pescara, after a crunching tackle from Sulley Muntari. With Barcelona to come on Wednesday night, there were immediately fears that Dybala could miss the Champions League Quarter Final second leg. “It was an impact where he twisted it, there’s reason to be optimistic,” Allegri told Mediaset Premium. “The lads did well to win today, but we had to manage the game better and not waste our energy. It was hot, it was all a chase and we didn’t use the space well. “The lads were good but we could have done better with the ball in the second half, the ball didn’t glide well but the pitch was beautiful. “Juan Cuadrado? He has room for improvement, sometimes he gets kicked because he doesn’t release the ball quickly enough, so he needs to improve in that. He’s becoming important though.” Allegri was then asked about the Barcelona game. “Barcelona will come at us right away, the first half hour will be very important. We need to play for a goal, a bit like in Naples [in the Coppa Italia]. “We need to play with courage and self-belief, we have the chance to reach the Semi-Final and it won’t be easy. Roma dropped two points at home to Atalanta, allowing the Bianconeri to move eight points clear, is the Scudetto race over? “Currently Roma can get 90 points, which means we need to get 91,” Allegri replied. “There are still difficult games to come, we’re thinking about Wednesday and then Genoa.” http://www.goal.com/en/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=TP_TN_110 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

The Giallorossi were held to a 1-1 draw by Atalanta this afternoon, while the League leaders won at Pescara to move establish an eight point lead. “We lost the points because of the first half,” Szczesny sighed, speaking to Roma TV. “In the second half we almost deserved to win but we didn’t do enough, we’re disappointed. In the first half we got it wrong and they won all the 50-50s. “They deserved it in the first half, but we went very close twice in the second half. The draw is fair. “We know that Juventus won’t drop eight points, we have to win all of our games and bring home this mini-trophy for second place. “The League is over, in my opinion. “We’re having a good season, but we’ve made errors at crucial times like against Lyon and Lazio. We also got it wrong today, we get it wrong at important moments. “It’s our fault and we have to take responsibility and improve.
