Cristiano Ronaldo: 'Juventus could win Champions League'

news/ronaldo-juve-could-win-champions-league_285103.html

Nov 11, 2016

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has tipped Juventus to challenge for the Champions League title this season.

The Old Lady have dominated Italian football in recent years but have not won Europe's biggest prize since 1996.

Juve were beaten in the 2014-15 final by Barcelona, but Ronaldo - who helped Madrid to their 11th Champions League title last term - believes that they have all of the attributes to go the distance this time around.

"Alvaro Morata had a fantastic season, learned a lot in Italy, and improved as a footballer. He grew up as a player in a very tough competition," Ronaldo told Marca.

"Of course they can win the Champions League. They have a fantastic team, just like their coach and stadium. Why not?"

Juve have won the Serie A title in each of the last five seasons and are top of the table again this term with 10 wins from 12 games.

Zola: ‘Serie A needs Milan clubs’

http://www.football-italia.net/94355/zola-‘serie-needs-milan-clubs’?

Nov 14, 2016

Gianfranco Zola says Serie A needs the Milan clubs to challenge Juventus “to return to being highly competitive”.

The Bianconeri have won the Scudetto for the past five seasons in a row, with calcio’s other traditional giants struggling in recent years.

“Juventus are still the favourite for the final victory this season,” Zola said on TeleRadioStereo.

“It’s not a given that they’ll win a sixth-consecutive Scudetto though. Juventus haven’t yet been at their best, because they’ve changed a lot in the summer and they need to gel.

“That could be an advantage though, because it means they could do even more once they do reach their best.

“Other teams have to raise their level, and I’m not just talking about on the pitch, there’s organisation too.

“There are clubs which are doing well, like Roma this year and Napoli last season.

“The Milanese clubs need to raise their level, and they’re gearing up for that. That’s what it’ll take for the Italian League to return to being highly competitive.”

Capello: ‘Juventus have no rivals’

http://www.football-italia.net/94364/capello-‘juventus-have-no-rivals’?

Nov 15, 2016

Fabio Capello dismisses Massimiliano Allegri’s comparisons - “the current Juventus have no opponents”.

The Bianconeri have been criticised by some for their style of play this season, with the Coach likening his side to Capello’s team of 2004-2006.

“My Juve played good football, and were up against good competition,” Capello replied in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The current Juve have no opponents. Napoli lost their way with the sale of [Gonzalo] Higuain and the [Arkadiusz] Milik injury. Inter are on their third Coach in three months.

“The only possible rival is, for me, Roma.”

Tonight sees Italy take on Germany in a friendly, and Capello also discussed that match.

“It’s an eternal fixture, and games like this can help a group to grow. Italy are going about renewal in a balanced way.

“The League is supporting [CT Giampiero] Ventura’s work, thanks mainly to Torino, Atalanta and Milan. [Sinisa] Mihajlovic, [Gian Piero] Gasperini and [Vincenzo] Montella have launched quality youngsters.

“Germany is a colossus, but we always make them suffer, because no-one is attentive to tactics as Italians. Others face opponents as though they didn’t exist, we always study our rivals.”

Capello also discussed the Pope - “he talks too much” - and Donald Trump - “there’s deep delusion in the US electorate” - before being asked about the English Premier League.

“Liverpool are spectacular,” Capello noted.

“What we don’t know is whether it will last. Chelsea are solid, [Antonio] Conte is working well.

“The Blues are very difficult to score against, for me they can go all the way.”

Kean set for first Juve start?

  http://www.football-italia.net/94417/kean-set-first-juve-start?

Nov 16, 2016

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri could hand a surprise start to 16-year-old Moise Kean against Pescara on Saturday.

With Paulo Dybala and Marko Pjaca out injured, the Bianconeri have relied heavily on Gonzalo Higuain and Mario Mandzukic, and Calciomercato.it report that Allegri is considering the youngster as an alternative in attack.

The Italian U-17 international has already been on the bench five times for the Bianconeri in Serie A this term, and is set to sign his first professional contract with the club in the coming months.

Kean has attracted attention after scoring 24 goals in 26 appearances for the Juventus U-17 side last term, with both Arsenal and Manchester City said to have been watching the young star.

Reports: Moise Kean expected to make Juventus

debut against Pescara this weekend

  http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2016/11/17/13631398/reports-moise-

kean-to-make-juventus-debut-against-pescara-this-weekend-2016-serie-a

Nov 17, 2016

The fact that Moise Kean hasn’t already made his first Juventus appearance might be a surprise to some. He’s been called up for a handful of Juventus’ fixtures the last four weeks or so. But up until this point, Juve manager Max Allegri has resisted the possible temptation of throwing on the 16-year-old striker who has stormed through the club’s youth system the past two years.

Could all of this be about to change?

According to a host of outlets over the past 24 hours, that will exactly be the case. Kean, who has been awaiting his chance to see the field and make his first senior squad appearance, is being tipped to make his first-ever start for Juventus alongside Mario Mandzukic in this weekend’s return from the international break against Pescara on Saturday night at Juventus Stadium.

Dare we say...it’s time to...#MakeSomeMoise?

If this truly ends up being the day that Kean gets his debut, it would be in a situation that makes a bunch of sense. And I’m not just saying that because I am amongst those folks that wants to see young Moise actually step onto the field and get some playing time in the very near future.

One of the biggest reasons is because one of Juve’s strikers who is actually healthy right now, Gonzalo Higuain, will be returning to Turin on Thursday after being on international duty with Argentina. As we have come to know, Allegri is one to sometimes rest some of his better players in the first game back from the international break when they have to travel long distances to and then back into Turin. That’s exactly what Higuain — as well as Dani Alves — will have to do and are probably doing as this post goes live. And as we know, there’s a relatively important game a couple of days after Pescara’s trip to Juventus Stadium that I’m pretty sure Allegri will want Higuain to be rested up for.

Is that what allows Kean to get his chance to be on the field with the first team for the very first time? Hey, whatever gives the kid a shot, right?

So now we wait to see whether this actually has some truth to it.

Rugani: ‘Not just Roma for Scudetto’

  http://www.football-italia.net/94462/rugani-‘not-just-roma-scudetto’?

Nov 17, 2016

Daniele Rugani warns Juventus can’t afford to slip-up because “Roma are just four points behind” and “there are other challengers too”.

The Bianconeri face Pescara on Saturday, and will take a seven point lead at the top of Serie A if they win, at least temporarily.

“After the international matches there’s always a bit of tiredness,” Rugani explained, speaking to Sky.

“We have to be focused and we absolutely can’t think about Sevilla. We have to think about picking up three crucial points against Pescara, because Roma are just four points behind.

“Last season shows us that even those who are far away can re-enter the race as we did last year.

“So at the moment we can’t just speak of Roma, there are other challengers too.

"Roma are definitely the most likely at this point, but Napoli and Milan are doing very well. There's a long way to go, so in my opinion it's still early."

Pepe: ‘Juventus-Pescara is special’

  http://www.football-italia.net/94464/pepe-‘juventus-pescara-special’?

Nov 17, 2016

Pescara winger Simone Pepe admits Juventus “will never be just another game for me” after his time in Turin.

The 33-year-old spent five seasons with the Bianconeri, but missed the best part of two years with serious hamstring problems.

Saturday night will see him return to Juventus Stadium with the Delfini, and the former Italian international confirms it’s a special occasion.

“This will never be just another game for me,” Pepe told TuttoJuve.

“I spent the most beautiful years of my football life there, I won a lot of trophies and was part of a top team and club, who I remain very attached to.

“The relationship with the Juve fans was fantastic. They loved me before the injury and they stuck by me in my time of need, when I was out for a long time.

“That’s why there’s a relationship of love and respect between me and them, I’m proud of that and I’ll thank them forever for it.”

Pepe was then asked what kind of game he expects on Saturday night.

“An extremely difficult game, because we’re playing a team which is strong in every area of the pitch.

“Pescara are going through a difficult period, but we have to get out of it together by being compact and cutting out the errors. We have to work on our mistakes.

“I’m afraid of all the Juve players, because I know all about their strength and winning mentality.”

Allegri: 'we must be top at Christmas'

  http://www.football-italia.net/94500/allegri-we-must-be-top-christmas?

Nov 18, 2016

Juventus Coach Massimiliano Allegri believes that his side 'must be top of Serie A at Christmas'.

The 49-year-old also confirmed that Gonzalo Higuain will start on Saturday evening when the Bianconeri take on Pescara, click here for a match preview.

"Higuain will play tomorrow, I do not see why he shouldn't," Allegri told his pre-match Press conference. "Unless something happens today in training.

"As for his mood, we know that in football there are moments when things are going well, and sometimes they go less well.

"He's back, he’s smiling, and is peaceful and calm. With us he is having a good season, the Argentine national team won and are on course to qualify for the World Cup, so I don’t see a reason why he wouldn’t be happy.

"First of all, with regard to tomorrow's game, as always the game after the break is the most dangerous, because you have to retrace what you have done in the championship, then there’s a month before the Christmas break.

"This month we have three objectives to be achieved the first is the qualification for the Champions League, the second is to keep the top spot before the Winter Break and the third is that of the Super Cup, then comes Christmas.

"On Saturday it will not be an easy match because Pescara are a good team despite their league position. But I think this is normal at the beginning, they are a team that plays very well, which creates a lot, that in all the games he created many chances, but often did not deserve to lose.

"It's normal that they lack a little experience at the top level, but we must know that we have only one possible result, that of victory.

"So tomorrow will be playing the best formation because Sevilla is not decisive. We have two games in the Champions League, Sevilla and Dinamo Zagreb at home. We just need a win for mathematical qualification.

"But right now the Champions League must be placed on the backburner because the prerogative is to beat Pescara tomorrow, and I repeat that it will not be easy. Above all we must get to Christmas at the top."

Allegri: 'No Lichtsteiner doubts'

  http://www.football-italia.net/94501/allegri-no-lichtsteiner-doubts?

Nov 18, 2016

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has assured that he 'has no doubts' about defender Stephan Lichtsteiner.

The 32-year-old was left out of the Champions League squad, but the Coach took the opportunity to reassure the player that he remained in his plans.

After having revealed his aims to remain top of Serie A by Christmas, the Tuscan boss also gave the Press injury updates on his squad.

"Marchisio is fine, he has trained, I will have to decide after training today," Allegri continued in his Press conference. "Then on Tuesday I will rotate the squad from Saturday, this has always been the strength of Juventus and must continue to be.

"Today I will evaluate whether Chiellini is available. Benatia has returned from the National team with knee pain, today I will assess whether he will be available or not."

The Bianconeri boss then addressed rumours that 16-year-old Moise Kean may have some part to play on Saturday.

"The kid is growing, but it is also the time to continue to develop. He came to train with us and he did very well. Then he had a moment where he was down, because this is normal psychologically.

"The exertion of mental and physical energy in the first team is different than the Primavera..Let's see how the game goes. It may be that there is a need for him, but not necessarily. The important thing is to be ready to play."

What about Pescara boss Massimo Oddo in his first managerial position?

"Oddo has proven to be a good coach, he has already won a Serie B championship and it's not easy.

"And above all he is proving to have good ideas, the team plays very well, it is normal that he has to improve on mistakes. But he has all the qualities to become an excellent Coach."

This week Stephan Lichtsteiner has said he is working towards being included in the Champions League squad in the future. What does Allegri think?

"Stephan is doing well, when he was called upon he has played well, but of this I had no doubt.

"At that moment I had to make a choice, unfortunately in the Champions League list I had more than I needed so I could not put him in.

"But this is not going to affect my thoughts towards Stephan, he proves himself every time he’s called into action."

‘Allegri may have surpassed Conte’

  http://www.football-italia.net/94511/‘allegri-may-have-surpassed-conte’

Nov 18, 2016

Pescara boss Massimo Oddo believes Juventus’ Max Allegri “has been as good as Antonio Conte, maybe even better” ahead of Saturday’s clash in Turin.

Allegri has guided Juve to consecutive doubles and a Champions League final since succeeding Conte, who re-established the Bianconeri as a force in Italian football, and Oddo had his say on who was the better Coach for the Old Lady.

“In these two weeks, we’ve worked hard and tried both a back four and back three,” the former Milan and Italy full-back said at a Press conference.

“We have so many big misses, now isn’t the time to experiment. Manaj? He’s okay, I’ll assess whether to play him also in terms of how Juve will play. The likelihood of him playing? 33 percent.

“Bahebeck? We need players who did well against Torino to do against one of the best teams in Europe.

“He’s always had some little problems, but he’s on his way to a complete recovery.

“Juventus? We have a small glimmer of putting Juventus under difficulty. I always feel responsible.

“Our biggest problems are that we aren’t as aggressive going forward as we were last year, and the defensive phase when we lose the ball.

In those circumstances, we have to be better.

“Allegri has been as good as Conte, maybe even better. I’ve always appreciated him for what it is his best trait, his communication. In this aspect, he’s unbeatable.”

Juventus - Pescara

MATCH PREVIEW

  http://www.football-italia.net/SerieA/match/preview/87951

Nov 18, 2016

Juventus injury problems continue to pile up as they host a Pescara side that plays better than results might suggest.

A week off for the international break and the Delfini must focus on the unenviable task of travelling to top of the table Juve. They were comprehensively beaten in their last game, a 4-0 home defeat against an Empoli side who previously had found scoring a near-impossible feat.

There is hope for Massimo Oddo’s men. With games coming thick and fast for the Bianconeri, their usual arsenal of world class players is thin of late, particularly at the back. Max Allegri’s side go into this game with significant absentees among their usual Fort Knox back three.

While in recent weeks it has been ‘no Paulo Dybala, no problem’ for the side comfortably top of the table, the likelihood is Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli will miss the game at the Juventus Stadium. Without two of their preferred back three they have looked shaky at times, throwing away a lead against Lyon in the Champions League before narrowly winning away at Chievo.

Oddo branded Pescara’s shocking performance against Empoli ‘unacceptable,’ suggesting they deserved their jeers. If many of the pessimistic sections of the media have written off an upset in Turin, Pescara have another two trips after this one, away at high flyers Roma and Atalanta.

The promoted side will be looking for shock upsets rather than sympathy. Indeed, performances can inspire confidence and a positive display against the champions may break out some coupon-busters from the Biancazzurri. Although, by the time their next game at the Stadio Adriatico rolls around against Cagliari at the start of December, there may be no place like home.

Keep an eye on: Miralem Pjanic (Juventus) - A lot of emphasis has been placed on the crucial goals of Gonzalo Higuain in firing Juve top of the table, yet in the formation they have implemented, the midfield is crucial. With Claudio Marchisio unlikely to start through fitness concerns, the Bosnian is again expected to be decisive. If you needed it, his free kick to narrowly win at Bentegodi before the international break was a quick reminder of what he is capable of.

Allegri: Juve must be top of Serie A at Christmas

Manager’s pre-match comments

Nov 18, 2016

Juventus play Pescara tomorrow as Serie A action resumes after the last international break until March ends. Bianconeri manager Massimiliano Allegri spoke to the media in the pre-match press conference.

"Gonzalo Higuain will play tomorrow, I do not see why he shouldn't. Unless something happens today in training.

"As for his mood, we know that in football there are moments when things are going well, and sometimes they go less well.

"He's back, he’s smiling, and is peaceful and calm. With us he is having a good season, the Argentine national team won and are on course to qualify for the World Cup, so I don’t see a reason why he wouldn’t be happy.”

He said that Juve will have to be on the watchout on Saturday -

"It's normal that they lack a little experience at the top level, but we must know that we have only one possible result, that of victory.”

Oddly enough, Allegri feels the midweek Champions League game against group leaders Sevilla is not his highest priority.

On the health status of the squad -

"Marchisio is fine, he has trained, I will have to decide after training today. Then on Tuesday I will rotate the squad from Saturday, this has always been the strength of Juventus and must continue to be.

"Today I will evaluate whether Chiellini is available. Benatia has returned from the National team with knee pain, today I will assess whether he will be available or not."

There’s been plenty of chatter about 16-year-old Moise Kean possibly playing tomorrow.

Pescara have a rookie manager Massimo Oddo, how is he doing?

"Oddo has proven to be a good coach, he has already won a Serie B championship and it's not easy.

"And above all he is proving to have good ideas, the team plays very well, it is normal that he has to improve on mistakes. But he has all the qualities to become an excellent Coach."

Allegri also insisted that Stephan Lichtsteiner was still part of his plans at Juventus.

Press Union accuses Juventus

  http://www.football-italia.net/94537/press-union-accuses-juventus?

Nov 19, 2016

Juventus made an “unacceptable and grave” decision by banning Gazzetta dello Sport reporters from the Pescara game, stated the Press Union.

It’s suggested two representatives working on behalf of the Milan-based newspaper were refused Press passes to tonight’s match at the Juventus Stadium.

This is believed to be in retaliation for a story in La Gazzetta dello Sport alleging Gigi Buffon said opponents “step aside” for Juventus in Serie A – a quote the club and player have denied in very strong terms.

“The Juventus decision to deny access to the stands and Press Room for Juve-Pescara to two colleagues from La Gazzetta dello Sport is unacceptable and grave, because it violates the rights of the colleagues and does not respect the CONI (Italian Olympic Committee, ndr) rules,” read a statement from the Italian Sports Press Union (USSI).

“The two reporters have a CONI Press pass, which guarantees access to sports arenas without discretional power from those who organise the event.

“Juventus, like any club, cannot deny the rights recognised by the CONI to perform one’s profession. USSI ask the CONI, FIGC and Lega Serie A to intervene urgently to avoid a dangerous precedent for Italian sport and freedom of the Press.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport also published an editorial today noting that Juventus “will evaluate on each individual situation” whether to release Press Passes.

Line-ups: Juventus-Pescara

  http://www.football-italia.net/94564/line-ups-juventus-pescara?

Nov 19, 2016

Juventus revamp their defence and midfield to take on Pescara, but it’s Mario Mandzukic and Gonzalo Higuain together again.

It kicks off in Turin at 20.45 CET - 19.45 GMT.

The Bianconeri have the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table, as the chasing pack all have considerably more difficult fixtures on paper this weekend.

Max Allegri has quite a few injury problems to deal with, missing Andrea Barzagli for two months with a dislocated shoulder, Marko Pjaca, Paulo Dybala and Medhi Benatia.

Dani Alves is rested after international duty in Brazil, as he needs to be fresh for the Champions League showdown with Sevilla next week.

Also rested are Gigi Buffon, Miralem Pjanic, Giorgio Chiellini and Claudio Marchisio.

Moise Kean is on the bench again, as the 16-year-old is consistently expected to make his debut at senior level, but so far hasn’t been given a chance yet.

Daniele Rugani started Italy’s 0-0 friendly with Germany on Tuesday and is given a rare opportunity to shine in a reshuffled back three.

Pescara have not actually won a game this season, as the only victory was handed to them by the Disciplinary Commission for Sassuolo fielding an ineligible player.

That decision is still the subject of another appeal by the Neroverdi.

Massimo Oddo’s side have played some decent football, but before the break for international duty were humiliated 4-0 on home turf by Empoli.

Andrea Coda, Jean-Christophe Bahebeck, Norbert Gyomber and Valerio Verre haven’t even made the trip to Turin.

Gaston Brugman and Bryan Cristante form the midfield, while Gianluca Caprari leads the attack.

Pescara have played this fixture six times in Serie A and earned one point, a 1-1 draw in February 1989.

Juve won their last four encounters with the Delfini, home and away in all competition, since a shock 5-1 loss at the Adriatico in May 1993.

Juventus: Neto; Rugani, Bonucci, Evra; Lichtsteiner, Khedira, Hernanes, Asamoah, Alex Sandro; Mandzukic, Higuain

Juventus bench: Buffon, Audero, Chiellini, Sturaro, Pjanic, Lemina, Marchisio, Cuadrado, Kean

Pescara: Bizzarri; Zampano, Campagnaro, Zuparic, Crescenzi; Brugman; Memushaj, Cristante, Biraghi, Pettinari; Caprari

Alex Sandro: 'Juve ignoring Sevilla'

  http://www.football-italia.net/94568/alex-sandro-juve-ignoring-sevilla?

Nov 19, 2016

Alex Sandro assures Juventus “aren’t thinking about the Sevilla match” as they rotate the squad against Pescara.

“We need to find the right concentration straight away after the break for international duty,” Alex Sandro told Mediaset Premium.

“We know it’s important to win, because the opponents always play in a very closed-up manner here and it’s difficult to find spaces.”

The Bianconeri have a crunch Champions League showdown with Sevilla on Tuesday, so is that behind the change of formation?

“We aren’t thinking about the Sevilla match, absolutely not, as the important thing today is to get the three points against Pescara.”

Today Sevilla also rested several stars and completed a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Deportivo La Coruna.

HT 1-0: Khedira breaks through for Juve

  http://www.football-italia.net/94571/ht-khedira-breaks-through-juve?

Nov 19, 2016

Sami Khedira has given Juventus the half-time lead over Pescara, but there were some scares and a Stephan Lichtsteiner problem.

The Bianconeri rotated the squad after international duty and ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League showdown with Sevilla, resting Gigi Buffon, Miralem Pjanic, Claudio Marchisio, Giorgio Chiellini and Dani Alves, while Paulo Dybala, Medhi Benatia, Marko Pjaca and Andrea Barzagli were injured. Pescara had only one win this season and that was handed to them for Sassuolo fielding an ineligible player. Andrea Coda, Jean-Christophe Bahebeck, Norbert Gyomber and Valerio Verre were sidelined.

The Delfini had visited Turin six times in Serie A, emerging with a lone point thanks to the 1-1 draw in February 1989.

Gonzalo Higuain’s glancing header whistled just wide from an Alex Sandro cross and he failed to make the most of two Zuparic errors.

Hernanes drilled wide from distance and Pescara threatened to take a shock lead on 24 minutes when Hugo Campagnaro put a long ball over the top and Daniele Rugani did just enough to put off Gianluca Caprari at full stretch, forcing him to fire wide.

Stephan Lichtsteiner called for a substitution and ran off the field after 25 minutes, reportedly due to a stomach bug, making way for Juan Cuadrado.

Juventus broke through with a goal out of nowhere, as Khedira completed a give-and-go with Mario Mandzukic to toe-poke past Albano Bizzarri from 10 yards.

The visitors continued to have chances, mainly due to defensive errors, but failed to make the most of them with Bryan Cristante late to react on an Alex Sandro mistake and then Neto punching a Ledjan Memushaj shot straight up into the air.

Juventus 3-0 Pescara: Champions keep up

winning ways with convincing victory

Goals from Sami Khedira, Mario Mandzukic and Hernanes sent Allegri's men

to a comfortable three points which keep them in charge at the Serie A summit.

Nov 19, 2016

Champions Juventus cruised to a 3-0 win over Pescara to extend their lead at the top of Serie A to seven points.

With second-placed Roma travelling to Atalanta on Sunday, goals from Sami Khedira, Mario Mandzukic and Hernanes put further daylight between the Bianconeri and their title rivals.

Juve had won their previous 22 home league games, and, despite a number of changes with one eye on a midweek Champions League clash at Sevilla, that streak rarely looked like coming to an end.

Pescara did threaten on occasion in the first half, but could not find a response when Khedira's strike broke their resolve after 36 minutes.

Instead, the hosts pushed on, with Mandzukic and Hernanes adding a gloss to the scoreline that was thoroughly deserved by full-time.

Gonzalo Higuain also came close to scoring on a number of occasions, but a combination of poor finishing, good goalkeeping and the woodwork denied the Argentine an eighth league goal of the season.

Juve struggled to find their rhythm in the game's early exchanges, with Higuain nodding wide from Alex Sandro's driven cross when the first chance finally arrived.

Hernanes then flashed a low shot past the far post from 25 yards, before Higuain blazed over when a loose ball fell his way just inside the area.

Pescara then should have taken a shock lead as Hugo Campagnaro's hopeful lofted pass set Gianluca Caprari away through the centre, but the 23-year-old poked wide after holding off the challenge of Leonardo Bonucci.

The Bianconeri lost Stephan Lichtsteiner to injury, but his replacement Juan Cuadrado soon inspired the opener.

Darting inside from the right, Cuadrado squeezed the ball forward to Mandzukic, who teed up Khedira to prod a low finish into the far corner.

Back came Pescara, though, and Neto could only gather Ledian Memushaj's powerful strike from the left at the second attempt.

Higuain looked to double Juve's advantage after the break, pouncing on a wayward pass to curl a fine effort over Albano Bizzarri and against the far post.

A lightning break from Khedira then created another opening for Higuain, but Bizzarri was down to parry his tame finish.

However, a second goal arrived after 63 minutes.

Khedira, assisted by Mandzukic in the first half, nodded the ball onto the toe of the unmarked Croatia international, who calmly finished from close range.

Higuain nodded over, but another goal quickly arrived from the boot of Hernanes, with his phenomenal dipping strike finding the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Bizzarri made a good stop from Stefano Sturaro, but his efforts counted for little as Dario Zuparic failed to bundle home Pescara's only remaining chance and Juve saw out an ultimately comfortable victory.

Juventus sweep Pescara aside

Juventus did the bare minimum to see off Pescara 3-0, as Sami Khedira

and Mario Mandzukic exchanged assists, and Moise Kean made history.

Nov 19, 2016

This was their 23rd consecutive Serie A home victory, just two shy of the all-time record set by the Turin giants from August 2013 to December 2014.

Gonzalo Higuain’s glancing header whistled just wide from an Alex Sandro cross and he failed to make the most of two Dario Zuparic errors.

After the restart Caprari again wasted a promising counter-attack, as Juan Cuadrado sprinted back to tackle him. Cristante’s terrible back-pass almost gifted Juve a second, but Higuain’s strike only thumped against the far post.

Higuain’s finish was too weak to beat Bizzarri at the near post after a promising counter, but they did double their lead eventually, Mandzukic in the right place to redirect a wayward Khedira header from close range.

Pescara’s heads visibly dropped and Hernanes added a third, unleashing a right-foot scorcher from distance that flew in at the near post. He celebrated with his trademark backflip.

Stefano Sturaro also stung Bizzarri’s gloves, but there was time for Juventus to make some more history. They introduced 16-year-old Moise Kean for his debut, the first player born in this Millennium to feature in Serie A.

However, Pescara almost ruined Neto’s clean sheet in the final minute, the Brazilian using his foot to parry one effort and the Zuparic follow-up cleared off the line by Patrice Evra.

Kean earned a proud reception from the crowd for earning a corner in stoppages.

Moise Kean made history when the Juventus teenager became the first Serie A player born in the new Millennium.

The 16-year-old sensation was born in February 2000 and received his debut as a late substitute in this evening’s 3-0 victory over Pescara.

Kean has not been able to sign a professional contract yet, as he won’t turn 17 for another three months.

He has already made a name for himself thanks to his extraordinary scoring record for the Juventus Primavera youth team.

This season he had five goals in five competitive games, while last term it was 25 goals in 30 matches.

Kean’s parents are from the Ivory Coast, but he was born and raised in Turin and has played for Italy at Under-15, 16 and 17 levels.

Because of his heritage, his role as a striker and the fact he is represented by Mino Raiola, Kean has been nicknamed ‘The New Mario Balotelli.’

Juventus extend lead at top

of Serie A with commanding win

Reigning champions Juventus extended their lead at the top of Serie A over Roma to seven points with a 3-0 win against lowly Pescara in Turin.

The Bianconeri made several changes on the return to domestic action following the international break and ahead of Tuesday's crunch Champions League showdown against Seville, with the likes of veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, midfielder Miralem Pjanic and right-back Dani Alves all rested.

There was also a late debut for 16-year-old forward Moise Kean.

Juve, though, were still far too strong for third-bottom Pescara, as the Delfini were swept aside following goals from Sami Khedira and two in the space of six second-half minutes from Mario Mandzukic and Hernanes.

With Roma not in action until their trip to Atalanta on Sunday, Massimiliano Allegri's side looked to make an early impression.

Gonzalo Higuain went close with a header wide before Brazilian midfielder Hernanes sent a long-range effort off target.

Pescara, though, then almost took a shock lead on 24 minutes after Gianluca Caprari raced onto a long ball, but stabbed wide.

Juventus went ahead on 36 minutes when Khedira slotted in following a neat exchange with Mandzukic in the penalty area.

Any hopes of a recovery by the visitors were ended when Juve netted a quick-fire brace mid-way through the second half.

Mandzukic bundled the ball in from close range after a header from Khedira dropped to him in the six-yard box, with Pescara appealing for an offside flag which never came.

Hernanes wrapped things up on 69 minutes when the Brazilian crashed the ball into the right corner from 25 yards.

Juventus 3 - Pescara 0: Initial reaction

and random observations

MOISE KEAN GOT TO PLAY! MOISE KEAN GOT TO PLAY!

And Juventus won, too, so that was cool.

It’s the same kind of thought that pops into my head pretty much every time Juventus has taken a lead against a team as of late. I can’t help it. It’s only natural considering how up and down this team’s performances have been over the first couple of months of the season.

“Can Juventus put the opposition away?”

For the opening portion of the second half, it looked like Juventus was going to let Pescara hang around. But, thankfully, Mario Mandzukic and Hernanes were able to provide us with some much-needed ease and relaxation for a change after Sami Khedira gave Juve a lead late in the first half. Mandzukic and Hernanes scored within six minutes of one another and enabled Juventus to cruise to a 3-0 win over relegation battlers Pescara for their 23rd straight Serie A win at Juventus Stadium.

That lead allowed us to see Moise Kean to get his debut. That was cool, I’d say.

The first 50 or so minutes, not exactly the same kind of feelings, though.

Pescara did what pretty much every provincial side does when they roll into Juventus Stadium. There was about as much yellow behind the ball as there could be. And for as much as Juventus had the ball, the ever-present problem of not creating much with the possession they had was hanging over the first 50 or so minutes.

Case in point: When Gonzalo Higuain’s shot went clanging off the post after Bryan Cristante’s awful back pass gifted Juventus a goal-scoring opportunity, it was just Juve’s sixth shot in the entire game.

Six shots total. In 54 minutes. Against Pescara.

Yeah, it was definitely looking like one of those games.

A lot of it can be boiled down to the fact that Juventus’ squad was heavily rotated in advance of Tuesday night’s Champions League showdown against Sevilla in Spain. Juventus’ midfield was without Miralem Pjanic and Claudio Marchisio. Juventus’ attack was without the injured Paulo Dybala and all of the creativity and everything else he brings to the table. So, in that sense, it’s not like the lineup Max Allegri rolled out there was anything close to what you’d think as a group that would create chance after chance after chance and have goals flying into the back of the net.

But once Juventus resembled a dangerous team after about 20 minutes into the second half, the goals quickly followed. Funny how that always seems to work out, isn’t it? Yeah, funny!

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS
  • OH MY GOD MOISE KEAN OH MY GOD MOISE KEAN OH MY GOD MOISE KEAN
  • Juventus possession percentage in the opening 20 minutes: 73
  • Juventus shots attempted in the opening 20 minutes: 2
  • Yeah, as much as they head the ball, they didn’t really do anything with it.
  • It took 36 minutes for Juventus to get a shot on goal. That shot on goal was a goal. Juventus should have done more of that in the first 36 minutes.
  • A text that I kept getting from a friend who just so happens to be a regular reader here: “Why does Hernanes insist on shooting?” I had no reply for him.
  • Mario Mandzukic with a goal and an assist tonight. Who does he think he is, Paulo Dybala?
  • It’s kinda hard to believe after the kind of defenses Juventus has had over this lengthy title-winning run we’ve seen, but this was Juve’s first clean sheet in the last six Serie A games. Of course it had to come on a night where Gigi Buffon got the day off.
  • Moise Kean is 16 years old and won’t be 17 until February. I just turned 30 last month. I’ve never felt so old in my life.
  • Juventus gave three of their most important players the night off, got a comfortable win by a nice 3-0 scoreline and gave a debut to a kid we’ve been waiting to see for about a month now. Yeah, they didn’t play all that great, but all of those three things in the previous sentence happen so I guess I’m feeling a little better about myself than if they had grinded out a 1-0 win and looked absolutely lethargic for 90-plus minutes.
  • It’s onto Sevilla and everything that is attached to that game. I’d say it’s a pretty important game on the fixture list.

Hernanes was glad to have scored one of his trademark goals as Juventus beat Pescara 3-0. “The fans were waiting for it.”

The Brazilian has always hit rockets from distance for Lazio and Inter, but struggled to get on the scoresheet in a Bianconeri jersey.

“The fans were waiting for it, a performance like this from me and this type of goal that I have scored many times in Italy,” Hernanes told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am happy to have finally scored from distance again, but it is even more important to find the three points and stay top of the table.”

Max Allegri rotated the squad to rest stars ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League showdown with Sevilla.

“It was important today and the Coach underlined that we had to face this match with the right determination, which is what we did.

“We got the three points and are fired up to face Sevilla on Tuesday.”
