The Bianconeri face Milan in the Coppa Italia tomorrow and, while there will be changes, the Croatian winger will have to make an impact off the bench. “We’ll change some players, because we played a very tense and physical game on Sunday,” Allegri confirmed in his pre-match Press conference. “Tomorrow night will be a final, and then we have a game with Sassuolo on Sunday. Everyone else is fine, so there will definitely be changes. “Marchisio is unlikely to be available for the game because he didn’t train with the team as of yesterday, he did separate work. “It’s normal though, since he came back he’s been getting better but it was expected the there would be a period where he’d have a bit more difficulty, not so much with his knee but with his muscles. “He worked well yesterday, not with the team. We’ll see today, but it’s unlikely that he’ll be available for the game. “As for Pjaca, it’s difficult for him to play from the start. He’s a lad - a player - who is destined for greatness, because he’s always made important chances when he’s appeared. “That goes for Empoli when he came on, it was the same on Sunday and in the Champions League when he came on at the end. “When he makes these cameos he’s always available, he always has chances to score and he always does something important. “It’s normal that he’s destined to grow and have a good career. I have to see how [Giorgio] Chiellini is after Sunday's game. [Leonardo] Bonucci needs to play because he's been out for two months. "I'll have to look at [Stephan] Lichtsteiner, but whoever takes to the pitch will be in top condition because the game could last 120 minutes." Gianluigi Buffon embraced referee Paolo Tagliavento after the Lazio win, creating a controversy which made its way to the front of this morning’s Tuttosport. “It’s stupidity, don’t make me say another [ruder] word. We also need to diffuse this tension against the referees. “In Italy instead of talking about the great piece of skill from [Paulo] Dybala when he scored his goal, the finish from [Gonzalo] Higuain or the shot - which didn’t go in - that [Lorenzo] Insigne took from 40 yards against Milan on Saturday, in Italy you go looking for other things, never what the players do on the pitch. “We never just enjoy football for what happens on the pitch, it’s always about wasting time looking for these things.” Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Manager Massimiliano Allegri, who was relieved of his duties at Milan before Juve snapped him up, spoke to the media about the upcoming game. “When you play one-off games you have to be balanced, these matches are decided by incidents. Juventus can’t live by reactions, Juventus must be balanced. It’s not like after Florence we have to throw everything away and before Florence everything was fine. “This team doesn’t gain or lose its value in a week, the team has a value. Then there are times when, on the pitch, our opponents will prove better. The League season is long and at the end the strongest team wins. If we’re the strongest at the end, then we’ll definitely be at the top of the table. “Incidents don’t decide Leagues, it’s down the strength of the team and balance. Before Sunday’s game, Juve were at the top of the League with 15 games won and a game in hand. So there shouldn't be this fuss about Sunday, it was a good win, we played well and we played as a team. That’s what the lads have to do.” How about vengeance against tomorrow’s opponents? “Revenge on Milan? I’m not here to talk about revenge, I’m here to talk about an important football match” He went on to talk about his squad options. “We’ll change some players, because we played a very tense and physical game on Sunday. The winger has joined on loan from Everton for the rest of the season, but the paperwork to register him was still missing. Coach Vincenzo Montella was unsure if he’d be able to select the Spaniard, but Sky is now reporting that the registration documents have arrived. That means Deulofeu is likely to be called-up, though M’Baye Niang will be left at home as he weighs-up a transfer to Genoa. As with the Supercoppa encounter last month, the Coppa Italia meeting means more to Milan than Juventus, writes Richard Thomas. http://www.football-italia.net/97381/we-meet-again Jan 25, 2017 When Juventus and Milan take to the field in Turin for Wednesday evening's Coppa Italia quarter-final tie, it will already be the third time the two sides have locked horns this season. On each of the other two occasions, the Rossoneri defied the odds to record a victory - first with a 1-0 Serie A triumph at San Siro, then by defeating the Old Lady on penalties after a 1-1 Supercoppa draw just before the winter break. I wrote in the build-up to the Super Cup that the game in Doha was of greater importance to Vincenzo Montella's side than Max Allegri's. The Diavolo's subsequent jubilant celebrations at winning their first silverware since 2011 bore testament to this, with CEO Adriano Galliani even declaring that he would “treasure this trophy more than any other” won during his time at the club. Although Galliani's comments seem wildly over the top when considering some of the highs the Rossoneri have experienced during his tenure, it was hoped Milan would use the Supercoppa win as a springboard to secure Champions League qualification and begin their rise back towards the elite on both the domestic and European fronts. As 2016 drew to a close, Montella's men were sitting third in the table and it looked like there was every chance of this happening. Unfortunately for the Diavolo, the excellent recent form of Roma and Napoli, the revival of Inter under Stefano Pioli and last weekend's damaging home defeat by the Partenopei all mean dreams of returning to European football's top table are beginning to fade. Montella has done a fine job in his first season in charge at San Siro, but Milan do not currently look equipped to last the pace in the fight for Champions League football... Which makes Wednesday's match at the Juventus Stadium all the more important for the Rossoneri. Though the smart money would say Milan are set to come up short in the marathon of the League, they have proven they can deliver on the big, one-off occasion. Beating Juve for the third time this season would provide the club with excellent publicity and be a huge statement to potential future signings that Montella's team are a growing force. It would also put the Diavolo within reach of a second trophy and take revenge for last year’s Coppa Italia Final defeat in extra time, when Cristian Brocchi was on the bench. Defeat, however, would leave a fight with Inter, Lazio, Atalanta and possibly Fiorentina for the consolation of a Europa League place as the only probable goal for the remainder of the campaign. For all the progress made under Montella, this would be an anti-climactic end to a promising year. As for Juve, the match is an opportunity to continue to build momentum after the recent setback of a defeat to Fiorentina. The Bianconeri will be highly motivated by aspirations of completing a historic 'triple double,' and the ease with which they brushed aside Lazio on Sunday suggests they will be heavy favourites to advance to the semi-finals. However, as it was during the build up to the Supercoppa, the fact remains that the champions' season will not be defined by what happens on Wednesday evening, or even in the Coppa Italia as a whole. Such has been the nature of Juve's domestic dominance in recent years that only a run deep into the Champions League knockout stages will be enough to satisfy expectations, regardless of whether or not the 'triple double' is clinched. With success in Europe being the undisputed number one target and the recent consistency shown by Roma and Napoli suggesting the race for the Scudetto could be closer than originally thought, Allegri's priorities lie away from the Coppa Italia. The former Milan boss took the Old Lady to within one match of a sensational treble in 2015, but repeating the trick will be an incredibly difficult feat. If offered the opportunity now, he would surely sign away Juve's grip on the cup in exchange for a return to the Champions League final on June 3 in Cardiff. Though undesirable, a shock defeat on Wednesday would not break Juve's season. It could, however, have the potential to make Milan's. It kicks off at the Juventus Stadium in Turin at 20.45 CET - 19.45 GMT. This is a one-off game, so qualification will be decided tonight after 90 minutes, extra time or even penalties. The winners go on to face Napoli in the two-legged semi-final. These two sides have clashed several times already over the last few months, as it was last season’s Coppa Italia Final, decided 2-1 in extra time in Juve’s favour. Milan defeated Juventus in Serie A at San Siro, then won the Supercoppa Italiana in Doha back in December on penalties, including a Gianluigi Donnarumma spot-kick save on Paulo Dybala. Max Allegri unveiled the brand new 4-2-3-1 system in Sunday’s 2-0 Serie A victory over Lazio and he sticks with it again here, starting Gonzalo Higuain, Dybala, Mario Mandzukic, Juan Cuadrado and Miralem Pjanic together. There are changes at the back, though, as Gigi Buffon is always rested for the Coppa Italia, so Norberto Neto wears the gloves. Claudio Marchisio and Mario Lemina are injured, while Patrice Evra is in Marseille to complete his transfer, so Kwadwo Asamoah is again at left-back. The difference here is resting Stephan Lichtsteiner and Giorgio Chiellini for Andrea Barzagli and Daniele Rugani. Milan are looking for a hat-trick of victories over Juventus in different competitions this season under Coach Vincenzo Montella. M’Baye Niang is left out, as he is on the verge of a move to Watford, while new signing Gerard Deulofeu is on the bench following his loan switch from Everton. Mattia De Sciglio is still on the treatment table with Riccardo Montolivo, but Mati Fernandez is in the squad. Luca Antonelli gets the nod at left-back, as Davide Calabria has a left thigh issue and isn't even on the bench. Cristian Zapata is given a rare start to rest Gabriel Paletta and it's the Colombian's first appearance since facing Juve in the Coppa Italia Final on May 21, 2016. The winners of this clash will go on to face Napoli in the semi-final. The Rossoneri were seeking a seasonal hat-trick, having already beaten Juve in Serie A and the Supercoppa Italiana, while they lost the Coppa Italia Final in extra time in May 2016. That was also the last game played by Cristian Zapata, who got a surprise start here, as Mattia De Sciglio and Davide Calabria were injured. Max Allegri used his all-attack 4-2-3-1 system for the second game running. Juventus opened the scoring with their first attempt, as Kwadwo Asamoah’s cross was flicked on by Juan Cuadrado for unmarked Paulo Dybala to volley in from 10 yards with his weaker right foot. Remarkably, it was the seventh time in the last nine games that Milan had conceded the opener. There was almost an identical goal six minutes later, but this time Luca Antonelli got a decisive block on Cuadrado’s volley from another Asamoah cross. Asamoah’s mazy run was cut short on the edge of the box and from that free kick Miralem Pjanic curled one of his trademark finishes into the near top corner to double Juve’s lead. Sami Khedira had the ball in the net, but was offside when Gianluigi Donnarumma parried Gonzalo Higuain’s shot. Milan finally had an opportunity just before half-time, but Carlos Bacca and Andrea Bertolacci both went for the Suso free kick and collided. Milan have proved tricky opposition for Juve this season and followed up the 1-0 league win at San Siro in October with a penalty shoot-out triumph in the Supercoppa in December. But holders Juve burst out of the blocks in Wednesday's contest in Turin, their excellent first-half showing proving enough to set up an enticing semi-final with Napoli despite a spirited showing from a Milan side forced to play the final 36 minutes a man down. Paulo Dybala gave Juve a 10th-minute lead with a close-range volley before Miralem Pjanic made it 2-0 with a fine free-kick 11 minutes later. After a dreadful first half, Milan found their stride and pulled one back through Carlos Bacca's stunning 53rd-minute effort. However, Manuel Locatelli was then sent off for a second bookable offence and, though both teams had chances in a hugely entertaining second half, Juve stood firm to keep their bid for a third straight league and cup double alive. Neither goalkeeper had really been threatened before Dybala struck, Gianluigi Donnarumma helpless to prevent him from firing Juve ahead with his eighth goal of the season. Kwadwo Asamoah's left-wing delivery was cleverly flicked into Dybala's path and he lashed a fierce volley into the bottom-right corner. Milan continued to be posed problems by Asamoah and the second goal came as a result of more good work from the Ghanaian. Asamoah was clipped on the edge of the area by Juraj Kucka and Pjanic took full advantage from the resulting free-kick, curling beyond the outstretched Donnarumma in superb fashion. Juve looked to have a third when Sami Khedira found the net on the rebound after Gonzalo Higuain had latched onto a wonderful cross-field pass from Asamoah and seen his shot saved by Donnarumma, but the assistant's flag denied the Germany midfielder. Milan finished the first half on the front foot and halved the deficit eight minutes after the restart. Khedira robbed Andrea Bertolacci following Kucka's knock down, but his clearance only went as far as Bacca, who met the ball with a magnificent hooked volley that left Neto with no chance. But Milan's task of completing the comeback was made more difficult moments later when Locatelli was shown a second yellow for a rash sliding challenge on Dybala. Mario Mandzukic then twice wasted excellent chances to restore Juve's two-goal advantage, heading narrowly wide on both occasions. Milan still posed a threat despite their numerical disadvantage and Neto had to parry strongly to prevent Kucka from levelling matters with a driven free-kick. Gerard Deulofeu was brought on for his debut 10 minutes from time and, after Donnarumma had done well to keep out a Pjanic volley, the on-loan Everton man spurned a great chance to level when he got in behind the Juve defence only to produce a tame effort that Neto easily saved. Milan were unable to threaten any further and, while Juve's domestic domination continues at pace, Vincenzo Montella's men will have to focus fully on their quest to bridge the seven-point gap to third-placed Napoli in Serie A and Champions League qualification. Mandžukić Worked hard despite not playing as the main striker. Did not look out of position as part of fluid formation but should have scored after missing several chances. 21P. Dybala Superb finish to give his side the lead in the 10th minute and he showed real class on the ball. 9G. Higuaín Failed to get on the scoresheet tonight but was very busy and linked up well with the rest of his team-mates. Milan 99G. Donnarumma Made several crucial saves and could do nothing for the goals in the end. 17C. Zapata Showed plenty of passion after returning to the first-team but he could not stop Juve's powerful attack. 13A. Romagnoli Should have done better for Dybala's goal after missing the ball and he endured a difficult night. 20I. Abate Tried his best as captain to organise his side but struggled to stop Asamoah on his own down the left. 31L. Antonelli Was under pressure throughout from Cuadrado but he did catch the eye with some teasing through balls. 5G. Bonaventura Worked hard as one of a front three but didn't find too much space to create any real chances. 33J. Kucka Struggled early on with the pace and was lucky to stay on the pitch but he nearly made it 2-2 with a powerful free-kick. 73M. Locatelli Tried hard to make a difference but his enthusiasm cost him the end as he was shown two yellow cards. 91A. Bertolacci Was unable to stop Pjanic and Khedira during the intense midfield battle. 70C. Bacca Stunning finish for Milan's goal and summed up his quality. Hardly involved in the first 45 minutes but gave his side a huge lift. 8Suso Tried his luck from set-pieces on all night and kept finding space in the second-half to help Bacca come into the game but needed to do more with the ball at his feet. Substitutes 12Alex Sandro Didn't have much of an impact going forward but worked hard to make sure Milan failed to find a way through. Substitutes 80M. Pašalić Helped tighten up the midfield and that allowed the likes of Bacca and Deulofeu to kick on. 7Gerard Deulofeu Only joined the club a few days ago but he could have scored just seconds after coming on. Showed great pace and could prove a threat in the final few months of the season. Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Juventus and Napoli will meet in the Coppa Italia semi-final in Turin on March 1 and at the Stadio San Paolo on April 5. By a curious twist of fate, these sides will also clash in Serie A on the weekend of April 2 in Naples. The Rossoneri did get back into it with a spectacular Bacca volley, practically with his back to the goal, after a clearance looped into the air. However, moments later Manuel Locatelli received his second yellow card for a dangerous tackle on Dybala, reducing Milan to 10 men. Mario Mandzukic skimmed the upright, then he incredibly turned a totally free header wide from six yards. Despite being a man down, Milan pushed for the equaliser and almost got it, as a touched-on Juraj Kucka free kick was beaten away low by Norberto Neto. Juve had a promising counter-attack, but Khedira’s effort was accidentally charged down by teammate Alex Sandro. Vincenzo Montella gave Gerard Deulofeu his debut just hours after completing the loan move from Everton. There was almost a spectacular third goal for Juventus, a Cuadrado volley for Pjanic scissor-kick volley, but Donnarumma fingertipped it over the bar. Deulofeu sprung the offside trap and with no support had to test Neto at the near post, as Milan played so much better when down to 10 men. In stoppages Cristian Zapata made a wonderful clean tackle on Mandzukic inside the box, then on the counter Deulofeu dribbled past Cuadrado, but not Leo Bonucci. The Bianconeri pushed past Milan 2-1 in the quarter-final with Paulo Dybala’s volley and a Miralem Pjanic free kick, though Carlos Bacca created a tense finale despite Manuel Locatelli seeing red. “I wouldn’t say we suffered in the second half. We know from so many games this season that Milan never say die, no matter the result they always keep pushing and playing their football,” the Coach told Rai Sport. “We had several chances and allowed little at the back, then Dybala went off, we stopped having the extra man between the lines and that became a problem. “At the end it was 10 against 11, it’s true, but with four strikers we were all on the same line and the extra man didn’t make a difference tactically. “The extra man advantage was annulled and we annulled it. We misplaced too many passes because we went too deep. “We won the Coppa Italia the last two years and hope to at least get to the Final again this time.” For the second match in a row, Allegri started the 4-2-3-1 system with Pjanic, Dybala, Gonzalo Higuain, Mario Mandzukic and Juan Cuadrado together. “It’s not an issue of the system so much as the attitude. Obviously the forwards have to help out in defence, but they’ve got good legs and quality up there, so it’s entirely possible. “A lot depends on the characteristics of the game, of the players I want to use and those at my disposal. If everyone is prepared to work hard, more quality on the field can help us. “At the end tonight we didn’t defend very well because we stopped keeping hold of the ball. “Milan just created a few situations that could’ve been dangerous towards the end with their tackles. We were slow in the first half and kept a lot of possession because they allowed us to while sitting back, not giving us any spaces to break into. “If we played every game the way we do the last half-hour, we’d win a lot more often…” Montella told Rai Sport. “We have shown many times that our strength is we don’t give in. I am satisfied with the lads, we’re on the right track and laying the foundations at the start of this project. “Obviously we’re not at Juve’s level yet, but we are on the right track. I don’t think we got the wrong approach this time, but Juventus started very strong indeed, so it’s not quite the same as other games.” Gerard Deulofeu was given his debut just a day after arriving on loan from Everton. “He’s a winger, we were too deep and Bacca was tired, so I tried to introduce his pace. In fact, he did create a good scoring opportunity when cutting in from the wing.” Locatelli saw red moments after Bacca’s goal for a second bookable offence on Dybala. “From the bench he seemed to get the ball, but in any case he is 18 years old and will learn from this to dial back some of his vehemence in the tackle. “I hope that I am a realist more than an optimist. We earned our place in the quarter-final, come home with a defeat, but the team is picking up a certain mentality and I think we’ll have some positive lessons from this.” M’Baye Niang has been given the all-clear to undergo a Watford medical tomorrow, so can Montella explain what went wrong? “My job is to watch the players every day and evaluate them. As I’ve said, the lad is very sensitive and he tried really hard, so the lack of progress presumably hit his confidence and he regressed. I hope he can find consistency elsewhere.” Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Three days later, we sat here wondering what Juventus could do for an encore following a revitalizing kind of showing against Lazio. It became pretty clear pretty quick what the answer was. Juventus held a 2-0 lead after just under 20 minutes on Sunday. On Wednesday night against Milan in the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia? It was pretty much the same type of deal, with absolutely beautiful goals from Paulo Dybala — with his right foot, no less! — and Miralem Pjanic within the game’s first 21 minutes leading the way for the two-time defending Coppa Italia holders. The one common denominator in all of this? The crazy idea of a 4-2-3-1 formation. The sample size is small, sure. But this Juventus, the way Max Allegri has set things up the last two games with a very attack-minded kind of formation, looks so much more of a capable and productive of doing things once things truly start to click. And yes, things haven’t truly clicked yet because this is only the second game within a four-day period in which Allegri has trotted out this formation with pretty much the same personnel outside of a couple of spots. But you can see the potential is there. Juventus was damn good for a second consecutive opening 45 minutes. The second half wasn’t exactly as glamorous — especially after Milan went down a man following Manuel Locatelli getting his second yellow card of the night — but I guess it’s only natural to ease up a little bit knowing you’ve got the advantage in your favor. (They still should have scored a third goal, by the way. And they weren’t lacking for chances.) I’m going to choose to focus on what is the bigger deal here — the progression of this team over the last week. Can you remember a time where Juventus has played well in back-to-back games? Go ahead and try it. If there is a list, it isn’t that long at all. We talked about the start-stop nature of how this season has gone, so to see Juventus actually build off a really good showing and take another step in the right direction was quite the pleasant change from the alternative. You get the early lead, you’re able to do some things. Juventus were able to do some things, score a couple of pretty goals along the way and that’s why things have gone so well over the last 180 minutes or so. Keep on doing what you’ve been doing, Juventus — especially in the first half of games. This is starting to look like something that has plenty of potential. So yeah, why wouldn’t we want Juventus to keep this going? RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS This is your reminder that Gigi Donnarumma is still SEVENTEEN YEARS OLD. It seems like whomever Daniele Rugani is teamed with in the center of Juventus’ backline this season he has proven to be quite a calming presence in defense. Not only shows that he’s a pretty damn good player at the tender age of 22, but he’s able to adjust to playing next to different center backs with much different attributes, too. Pjanic isn’t quite there YET, but he’s becoming close to Andrea Pirlo levels in terms of his free kicks and having them be nearly automatic. Dybala is starting to look like that Dybala of last season when he seemingly scored every time he stepped onto the field. We know that when he’s in hot goal-scoring form, he’s in really hot goal-scoring form. Four goals in his last five games is starting to resemble that kind of hot goal-scoring form. That’s the Dybala we know and love. Neto made two saves on Wednesday night. It was really, really good. Shoutout to Kwadwo Asamoah, who has looked pretty darn good as a left back the last couple of weeks. With Patrice Evra now officially heading back to France to play with Olympique Marseille, having a productive backup to Alex Sandro sure will be a nice change of pace compared to Evra’s contributions this season. As much as we need to compliment Allegri for the formation switch over the last couple of games, his substitutions against Milan left a whole lot to be desired. Taking off Dybala for Sandro with the game kinda-sorta hanging in the balance? I don’t know about that one. Can you imagine the good vibes that would have been filling our hearts if Mario Mandzukic had put away one — or both — of those second-half scoring chances that just went wide of Donnarumma’s goal? Man, if only Mandzukic had finished those chances like he has been defending lately... Juventus vs. Napoli in the semifinals. Gee, that won’t be emotional or interesting at all. Nope, not at all. Especially not over a two-legged cup tie. Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Paulo Dybala’s volley and a Pjanic free kick had given them a 2-0 lead within 21 minutes, but Carlos Bacca’s sensational strike pulled one back. Despite Manuel Locatelli’s red card, the Rossoneri pushed Juve to the end. “We should’ve finished them off earlier and didn’t manage it, but the qualification and victory were deserved, as we were stronger on the night,” Pjanic told Rai Sport. “If we had made it 3-0, the game would’ve been over, but we wasted too many scoring opportunities. Juve were the better team this evening and could’ve made it easier for ourselves. “Milan have a lot of quality too, but we deserved it.” Juventus and Napoli will meet in the Coppa Italia semi-final in Turin on March 1 and at the Stadio San Paolo on April 5. “Napoli are a side who play good football, so it’s going to be tough for us, but also for them,” added Pjanic. “We want to win this trophy.” Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

The 18-year-old went into a sliding tackle on Paulo Dybala when he was already on a yellow card. The incident occurred just one minute after Carlos Bacca’s volley had put the Rossoneri back in the game. “I apologise to the club, my teammates, the fans and the Coach for my naïve error,” Locatelli told Rai Sport. “I got it wrong and it’s right to admit that, I come here and acknowledge my mistake. I let myself get swept up in the moment. We’d just scored and I wanted us to get right back at them. I have to improve this part of my game.” Once again, Milan found themselves 2-0 down within the opening 21 minutes. “I don’t know what happens at the start. The hosts got off to the perfect start when Paulo Dybala struck home a stunning right-foot volley after 10 minutes before Miralem Pjanic doubled their advantage with a wonderful free-kick. In the second period, an evening of special strikes continued as Carlos Bacca's excellent snap shot gave the visitors a route back into the game. However, Manuel Locatelli's red card for a poor tackle on Dybala was a major setback for Milan. Juventus will play Napoli in the semi-final after the Partenopei beat Fiorentina 1-0 on Tuesday. Given their formidable home record, it was no surprise to see Juventus on the front foot from the off. By contrast, Milan, who conceded two early goals against Napoli at the weekend, were a little indecisive in the way they approached this quarter-final. Dybala was a menace to the Milan defence early on.Valerio Pennicino/Getty Images Eventually, the hesitancy manifested in defence, and Dybala made them pay. A cross into the box was deflected into the air by Juan Cuadrado, and the Juve forward latched on to the dropping ball brilliantly, volleying home with his weaker right foot from the edge of the area. It was another moment of huge quality that put Juve into a two-goal lead after 21 minutes, with Pjanic showing all of his expertise when standing over a dead ball. Nevertheless, the Bianconceri could be pleased with their efforts in the first period. In the second half, there was a renewed purpose about Milan, and thanks to Bacca, they were quickly back in the contest—and in some style. With the ball dropping over his shoulder on the edge of the box, the Colombia international struck his shot on the turn, on the volley, with his back to goal, leaving Neto stranded. However, within seconds of that boost, their chances suffered another blow as Locatelli was given his marching orders for a late tackle on Dybala. Per Matteo Bonetti of beIN Sports, the 19-year-old could have no complaints about the decision: Follow Matteo Bonetti ✔@TheCalcioGuy Bacca golazo. Locatelli loses his head again and gets a rightful red 9:57 PM - 25 Jan 2017 1616 Retweets 1515 likes As expected, Juventus took control of the contest again initially, with Mandzukic failing to hit the target with his head when well-placed on two occasions. With the clock ticking down, Donnarumma then did superbly to keep his team in the game, tipping over Pjanic's volley. Milan continued to pose a threat, though. They introduced Gerard Deulofeu, on loan from Everton, for his debut, and he had a superb chance to equalise late on for the visitors after wriggling free in the left channel. However, he could only shoot tamely at Neto from the corner of the six-yard box. Despite having a one-man advantage, Juventus did look nervous late on.Valerio Pennicino/Getty Images Juve's early blitz was ultimately enough for them to progress, and just as Milan began to build a head of steam in the second period, it was sapped by Locatelli's rashness. The Italian champions have played better this term, although manager Massimiliano Allegri will be delighted to see his side into the last four. Milan again showcased plenty of determination after falling behind and could have easily taken the tie to extra time. However, Montella must solve the perennial problem of slow starts if his team are to continue their encouraging development. Post-Match Reaction AFP/Getty Images After the game, Allegri admitted he was unhappy with the way Juventus managed the contest after Milan went down to 10 men. "At the end, it was 10 against 11. It's true. But with four strikers, we were all on the same line, and the extra man didn't make a difference tactically," he told Rai Sport (h/t Football Italia). "The extra man advantage was annulled, and we annulled it. We misplaced too many passes because we went too deep." Pjanic also suggested Juventus were too wasteful with the opportunities they created. "If we had made it 3-0, the game would've been over, but we wasted too many scoring opportunities," he told Rai Sport (h/t Football Italia). "Juve were the better team this evening and could've made it easier for ourselves. Milan have a lot of quality too, but we deserved it." Paulo Dybala and Miralem Pjanic scored for Juventus in the first half to put the home side in control. Carlos Bacca reduced the deficit shortly after half-time but Manuel Locatelli was sent off moments later following a second booking. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Milan played better in the second half but couldn't find the equaliser. Juventus, who lead Serie A by four points, will face Napoli in the semifinals after they beat Fiorentina 1-0 on Tuesday. Milan had beaten Juventus 1-0 in the league this season and also defeated them on penalties to win the Italian Super Cup last month. There is an Italian proverb non c'e due senza tre -- things happen in threes -- and Milan were hoping to prove it right. However, Juventus, who beat Milan 1-0 in the final last year, were aggressive from the outset and took the lead in the 10th minute, with their first attempt on goal. Kwadwo Asamoah's cross was flicked on by Juan Cuadrado for an unmarked Dybala to volley in from 10 yards. Juventus were dominating and doubled their lead 11 minutes later when Asamoah was tripped by Juraj Kucka just outside the area and Pjanic curled the resulting free kick into the top left corner. Juventus had the ball in the back of the net a third time shortly before the half hour, but Sami Khedira was offside when he tapped in the rebound after Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma had parried Gonzalo Higuain's effort. Milan finally threatened on the stroke of half-time but Bacca and Andrea Bertolacci collided with each other as they went for Suso's ball. Milan got back into the match eight minutes after the break with a stunning shot. Bacca had his back to goal but managed to hook a volley into the left side of the net. However, just seconds later, Milan were reduced to 10 men as Locatelli was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Dybala and was dismissed. Juventus almost took immediate advantage but Mario Mandzukic sent two efforts narrowly wide of the right upright in quick succession. Milan almost leveled in the 70th when Kucka's free kick stung the gloves of Juventus goalkeeper Norberto Neto. Donnarumma was also forced into a flying fingertip save to deny Pjanic late on. Two stunning finishes from Paulo Dybala and Miralem Pjanic gave the home side a commanding first-half lead as the Rossoneri made a customary slow start. Despite seeing Manuel Locatelli sent off, Vincenzo Montella's side pushed their rivals hard after the interval but came up short. Carlos Bacca scored a sublime goal, but it was merely a consolation strike. Positives Despite suffering the setback of going behind early, Milan's belief and confidence in the second half ensured that they come away with many positives. As shown against Napoli last weekend too, they are capable of playing on a par with the teams considered a level above them and are building the right mentality. Negatives Another slow start to a game has proven costly. If the side played with the same intensity and drive that they show beyond the opening 20 minutes or so, they would be a nightmare for most of their rivals. Manager rating out of 10 6 -- In many ways, the constant slow starts can be attributed to the coach. Montella needs to fix the issue while he arguably waited too long again with his changes as Milan went in search of an equaliser. Player ratings (1-10; 10 = best. Players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating) GK Gianluigi Donnarumma, 7 -- The youngster could do little on either goal and remained alert throughout. His highlight came late on as he produced a stunning save to keep his side in it and deny Pjanic a second. DF Ignazio Abate, 5 -- Slow to cut out crosses and generally given a really tough night as he struggled to nullify the threat down Juve's left flank. Rarely troubled Kwadwo Asamoah from an attacking perspective either. DF Cristian Zapata, 6 -- Showed his pace and quality at times, but rarely seems composed in possession even though he's technically gifted. Given it was his first start in a long time, he can be generally pleased with his efforts as along with Alessio Romagnoli, they had to deal with a lot with little help from their full-backs. DF Alessio Romagnoli, 6 -- The Italian international was alert to Juve's threat for the most part. Did his best to marshal the backline, although his distribution could have been a bit better and dealing with pace is still an issue for him. DF Luca Antonelli, 5 -- Constantly troubled by Juan Cuadrado and never really got to grips with the Colombian. Antonelli was non-existent early on from an attacking point of view as he was given a real tough night on the defensive side of things. MF Juraj Kucka, 6 -- Fortunate not to have seen red and did give away silly fouls, including the one that led to Pjanic's goal. However, he covered so much ground and put himself about to give Milan a foothold in the game as it went on and almost grabbed an equaliser. MF Manuel Locatelli, 4 -- The youngster was having a really good night. Looking for pockets of space, wanting the ball and producing confident and sharp passes, it was all going to plan. A rush of blood in the second half saw him pick up his second yellow though, just at a time when Milan were in the ascendancy. MF Andrea Bertolacci, 5 -- Inferior in so many departments to his Juventus counterparts. Lost the physical battle, lack of pace was an issue and was just poor in general. He doesn't look effective in the role on the left of a midfield three. FW Suso, 5 -- Not one of his better performances of the season, but the Spaniard is always a willing runner, keen to get on the ball and has the technical skill to make something happen at any point. He just needs to find that consistent bit of quality in the final third. FW Carlos Bacca, 6 -- Scored a stunning goal that brought the Rossoneri right back into the tie. In addition, he did show touches of how he can help build up play with clever flicks, but was still isolated for large parts of the game against really tough and organised opposition. FW Giacomo Bonaventura, 5 -- Always looking to create something and can't be faulted for his effort. However, he's just missing that last little piece to his displays as he so often is a decisive figure for Milan with his creativity in key areas. Substitutes MF Mario Pasalic, 6 -- Gave Milan more presence in midfield and linked up play well. The Chelsea loanee should be back in the starting lineup at the weekend as his replacement didn't impress. FW Gerard Deulofeu, N/A -- A short debut for the Spaniard but showed what he can offer. Carved out a great opportunity for himself to find an equaliser but was denied. Deulofeu will hopefully be an exciting addition to the team. FW Keisuke Honda, N/A -- The Japanese international had little to no time to make an impact on the game. Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

After a stunning attacking performance against Lazio over the weekend, Juve opted to play their bold 4-2-3-1 formation again, blitzing their way to a 2-0 score line after just 20 minutes. Milan were overwhelmed and had no space to exploit as Juventus attacked with verve and in numbers in the first half. However, sensing the game was already won, the Bianconeri dropped off and dropped deep, inviting pressure and a tense ending to the game thereafter. Carlos Bacca pulled one back but Juve held firm to seal all three points to progress to the next round of the competition. Positives Having tried several formations, it is clear that this Juventus side are better equipped at playing with four at the back and with all their best players attacking upfront. An offensive approach allows the side greater control and overwhelms the opponent to such a degree it ensures defensive solidity. Juve may well have found their formation for the future. Negatives When the Bianconeri play at a high tempo with pace and intensity, they are unstoppable, usually scoring a goal within the first 15 minutes of a match. However, the manner in which the side dropped off once they feel they have the upper hand is frightening to watch. Milan were down to 10 men in the second half yet looked more capable of scoring a goal. If this continues, Juventus will learn the errors of their ways the hard way. Manager rating out of 10 7 -- Massimiliano Allegri opted to play a bold formation yet again and was rewarded with a sensational first half that knocked the wind out of Milan's sails. However, the coach must look at ways of ensuring his team play at a high level for the entirety of the match rather than for just one half of a game. Player ratings (1-10; 10=best; players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating): GK Norbeto Neto, 6 -- Excellent save to rescue Juve from a Juraj Kucka free kick. Few moments of note otherwise. DF Andrea Barzagli, 6 -- Played at right-back and looked overwhelmed at times but still reliable and elegant on the ball. DF Leonardo Bonucci, 6 -- One of the few who played with determination until the final moments of the game. DF Daniele Rugani, 6 -- His aerial ability proved important on the night, using his head to safeguard the back. Composed and mature. DF Kwadwo Asamoah, 8 -- Allowed ample space and time on the left, Asamoah took full advantage and pushed forward with pace and confidence, controlling the flank and delivering perfect balls into the box. Best player on the field. MF Sami Khedira, 6 -- He ran everywhere. Secured the backline, made timely runs forward and nearly came close to scoring a goal. Probably needs a little help to provide more quality to the position. MF Miralem Pjanic, 7 -- Another free kick equals another goal for the Bosnian who scored Juve's second in stunning fashion. Composed and intelligent, he contributes great technique to a deeper position. MF Juan Cuadrado, 6 -- Overcomplicated certain moves and then followed it up with a moment of magic. Frustrating when he wanted to walk the ball into the back of the net but sublime when he provided Paulo Dybala with the assist for the goal. Could have done better defensively to aid Barzagli. MF Paulo Dybala, 7 -- What beautiful technique shown for the first goal. The formation allows the player to stay further up field resulting in more goals. When he was substituted off, Juve struggled to penetrate, his movement between the lines is so crucial to the team's play. MF Mario Mandzukic, 6 -- His physicality and determination to get back and win possession make him perfect for his new role on the left. Once again contributed to the play that led to the first goal but if only he was a little more efficient in front of goal. FW Gonzalo Higuain, 6 -- No greater sight then watching him run back and steal possession from Milan to start an attacking move for Juve. Sacrificed relentlessly for the team but not his best night in front of goal. Substitutes DF Alex Sandro, 5 -- His introduction proved more of a hindrance than a help. Player is always a little rusty when he returns after a brief spell out. Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

He got down well to save from Fucka late on and finally made a comfortable block on Deulofeu. Considering he barely features in the starting XI this was a impressive effort from the Brazilian. 7 Bonucci – Finding his finest form after his injury lay-off. Has looked sharper and more confident on the ball. Also made some superb interceptions. 6.5 Rugani – I am glad that Allegri has finally found whatever he needed in order to continue Daniele’s development in the first XI. These kind of games will teach him so much. His performance was calm, measured and capable, especially so in the air. Made no errors and distributed the ball intelligently. 7 Barzagli – He is not a RB nor a RWB and asking him to play so wide, I believe is a recipe for disaster. At 35, and never a player of searing pace, he is prone to attacks by fleet footed opponents, yet to be fair, he was fine in the first half, and quite solid in the second. Admittedly, Allegri had tasked Cuadrado with keeping pressure on AC’s left flank, which offered some protection to the veteran. Still working his way back to his best, in body and mind. 6.5 Asamoah – Going from strength to strength and on this form, Sandro will be hard pressed to walk straight back into the side. He dominated the wing from top to bottom in the first half, was instrumental in both goals and yet slowed down dramatically after the interval, as was to be expected. If we can improve his stamina, his return to the ranks as a LB/LWB could prove as valuable as a major signing in that position. His tackling, pace and final product were top notch for 45 minutes. He was the best player on the pitch until he tired. 8.5 Khedira – It is high time that Khedira was given a roll of the dice as the fulcrum of the side. Had Allegri attempted this early doors this season, I truly believe we could have avoided so much bother in terms of the consistently haphazard form we have endured. He was and remains the most obvious replacement for Marchisio in front of the back four. Why it has taken Max this amount of time to realise this can only be explained by the value he places on Big Sami playing higher up the field. He was powerful throughout. Physical, reads the game amazingly well, wins the ball on the ground and in the air, not just starts attacks with key passes but then joins the attack. Was unlucky with a chance in the box which hit a team-mate, and Lady Luck was again turning the other way when his tackle lead to the Bacca wonder strike. 7 Pjanic – With a big lad beside him and a plethora of options to pass to up top we are beginning to see the best of Miralem. His work on the ball was classy, his free kick sublime and Donnarumma did well to stop the midfielder’s dipping volley from reaching the net. The Bosnian is finally blossoming in black and white. 8 Cuadrado – Hit and miss, but perhaps one of his better games. Managed to assist defensively, making a wonderful sliding challenge late on in his own box to deny the opposition. Helped create the opening goal and never stopped running. The other side of his game was also on offer; wretched passing, losing possession too easily and poor decision making. 6 Dybala – Took his goal splendidly and worked hard between the lines. Found chances hard to come by yet it was his departure which seemed the final nail in our offensive endeavour. 7 Mandzukic – Guilty of the worst miss of the season when it looked far easier to score, the goal gaping, and also sent wide another great opportunity. Full of running as always and effective in the air. 6 Higuain – Worked damn hard, could not capitalise on the small handful of openings conjured but gave his everything for the cause. Wonderful to see him charging back to not just relieve the pressure on the defence, but win the ball and bomb back up the field with guile and class. 7 Sandro – Looked rusty; poor touch, sloth pace. Offered nothing of value except winning a free kick in a dangerous position.5 The first 45 minutes of both our recent games has produced the best football of the season. With the midfield highlighted as an issue for many moons, Allegri has cunningly forged a new system which brings us so much closer to the sum of our parts. Khedira is superb at the base alongside the ever improving Pjanic. And with always several players to find higher up the field, we have become too much for opponents to handle. A brief mention of the lack of discipline and decency of our opponents. Their whining, contesting every decision and a fair few nasty fouls, was not becoming of a side of such storied prestige. Fucka should have been sent off and at times the ref was losing control. It was pleasing to see at least Big Sami and Mario give some back. For we lack that spitefulness, which can help a team pull together and fight as a unit, one for all and all for one. We are often too nice a team to play against. Whilst the line can be thin between aggression and outright viciousness, the difference between AC and Juve when conceding, is that we have a tendency to retreat and hope to hold out, whereas AC bare their fangs and go for the jugular. A magnificent outing from Asamoah. Asamoah is revived and rejuvenated. His performance was staggering and his domination of the left flank in the first half won us the tie. However the largest single change to our potency is the bodies we are getting into the box. Teams cannot deal with Higuain, Dybala, Mandzukic, Cuadrado and support from Pjanic, Khedira and the flanks all flying into their rear-guard at pace. This is why we have demolished -albeit before half time – our foes so swiftly of late. We are also showing more hunger, greater eagerness to be first to the ball and hunting in packs. It is when we switch, for no good reason whatsoever, to sitting deep, that the offensive elements all remain in our own half, that we court trauma. Why the devil we sat off after the interval is beyond me. Was this at the direction of the manager? Or further suggestion of an issue with mentality? Regardless, we still carved out further gilt edged chances to make the score-line more comfortable. And this is becoming another problem. Profligacy. We are finding trouble finishing the countless opportunities we create. I counted 3 for AC and 10 for us. Against superior opposition we will be made to pay if this lack of end product continues. On the other hand, we have shored up defensively. Even after sitting back, inviting pressure, and to some degree late on looking liable to list under the waves of AC pressure heading towards our goal, they scored a wonder strike out of nothing, and created just two other decent chances. Neto made one serious save from Fucka, one comfortable block, other than which was far from busy. I will err on the side of hope and positivity and assert that sooner or later, we are going to give an opponent a brutal hiding… Still much work to be done, yet I am mightily impressed and overjoyed to be regaining enjoyment and excitement from watching Juve play. Such wondrous sensations have been missing for too long. Asamoah deserves to retain his starting berth. As does every other player on the field, perhaps other than Barzagli, who I am not keen on as a RB. He is a CB. One of the best in the business when match sharp. It will be interesting to see how much Allegri rotates over the coming weeks. Other than the Inter tie, we have plenty of opportunity to bed in to the new system, grind off the rustiness and move towards becoming a winning machine which not just racks up the goals but entertains. I am unsure how suited Marchisio is to this system. The Khedira/Pjanic axis offers a brilliant combination of guile, physicality, cunning and creativity. I am loathe to see the budding partnership chopped and changed just as it is beginning to bear fruit. However, such is the class of Il Principino, I would be happy to see Pjanic moved into Cuadrado’s new position, Lichsteiner behind him and Claudio take up a central position alongside Khedira. We lose Juan’s searing pace which is a weapon against any side, and gain Pjanic’s world class playmaking in the final third. Problem there is that I feel Pjanic works more fluidly when central….I would rather we continue exactly as we are. It is working. Former Juventino – Paulo Sousa We are moving in the Right direction, but plenty of room for improvement remains. On another note entirely, it was intriguing to read Sousa’s comments when asked if he would manage Juve. “Let’s say I try to make the best decisions for my growth, to improve myself first so that I can then improve my players.” It would not surprise me to learn of informal discussions taking place in the shadows, between not just Allegri and the club in terms of his openness of ambition to manage elsewhere, namely England, but also between former Juventino Sousa and the club. Paulo may have been sounded out as an option, if the job becomes available. Perhaps even this Summer. It is a high pressure job, Max has been managing in Italy for many moons. He is learning English and has been linked to Arsenal, yet who can say who else may be seeking a highly experienced, successful coach. Guardiola may well self destruct at City…If we go far in the Champions League and repeat the domestic double, he may feel its time to cash in his chips, when his stock is high. More on such matters in May! forza juve Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

The Bianconeri progressed to the Semi-Final of the cup with a win over Milan last night, keeping them on course for a third Coppa in a row. “It was a great win against Milan,” Asamoah told Sky. “We always want to progress in the Coppa, we always want to get to the final and that’s our objective. “Unfortunately we lost to them [Milan] in the Supercoppa Italiana a few months ago, but yesterday’s match was important for us to progress in the Coppa Italia.” Juve travel to Sassuolo on Sunday, and Asamoah knows they must improve their away form to maintain their lead at the top of the table. “We want to take more points in these games. If we want to win the League we also have to be ruthless away from home. “We know that Sassuolo are a strong team because they have a lot of talented young players. “But we, with this ruthlessness, must keep pushing forward and take home the result.” http://www.goal.com/en/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=TP_TN_110 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti
