Sep 27, 2016 Dinamo Zagreb star Ante Coric confirmed he was “not even called up” for tonight’s Champions League game with Juventus after a reported row. The 19-year-old creative midfielder is their top player now after a summer of sales, but won’t feature this evening. “In life we all dream, aspire to make our dreams come true,” wrote Coric on Instagram. “My life, my dream is football – I devote every part of my life to it! I am well aware that professionalism, training and hard work are part of it and that makes me happy. “I know that I’m a public figure and a professional, perhaps a model for many boys who also dream of one day becoming footballers, but I must admit that dreaming right now is difficult for me. “I’m sorry that I will not be able to run out into a packed Maksimir stadium. I have been waiting for this moment since I came to the club. “It’s hard when you know that you’re not even called up for the game, but my heart remains with my Dinamo and the boys until the end! “Guys, I want a good game with heart and I’ll wait for that day to play at a packed Maksimir with this Dinamo!” There are reports of a row with caretaker Coach Zeljko Sopic, but it’s a huge blow for Dinamo regardless. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10?ICID=MP_TN_167 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

It kicks off at 20.45 CET - 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT). The Bianconeri are seeking their first win of the European season after a disappointing goalless draw with Sevilla on home turf. Max Allegri has an injury crisis on his hands, as Daniele Rugani, Medhi Benatia, Kwadwo Asamoah and Claudio Marchisio are all out of action for several weeks. Stephan Lichtsteiner is not even on the Champions League squad list for the group stage. Dybala was rested for Saturday’s 1-0 Serie A victory at Palermo, but returns to the starting XI with Higuain. The Coach brings Hernanes in to the midfield playmaker role, realising Miralem Pjanic does better with a little more freedom to roam. Mario Mandzukic and Marko Pjaca are former Dinamo Zagreb men, the latter leaving only this summer as the club’s most expensive ever sale at €23m. Dinamo Zagreb are in disarray after a dismal start to the campaign, as Coach Zlatko Kranjcar took over in the summer and resigned after three consecutive defeats in all competition on September 18. Caretaker manager Zeljko Sopic has sensationally dropped star player Coric following a row over his attitude, as the midfielder confirmed he hadn’t even been called up for the game. They are already missing injured Petar Stojanovic, Alexandru Matel and Ali Karimi. Junior Fernandes of Chile leads the attack with support from El Arabi Hilal Soudani. It kicks off at 20.45 CET - 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT). “When you start out as clear favourites, the difficulties increase. This year we introduced some quality players, but they need time to settle in, so this tricky start is understandable,” the director general told Mediaset Premium. “Juventus cannot get it wrong tonight, both in terms of performance and result. It’s always the game of their lives for our opponents, so we cannot get the approach wrong tonight. In the long run, the quality of the individuals should come out on top. “We have to get out there with the right mentality, not thinking that it’ll be easy.” Hernanes is in the starting XI this evening rather than Mario Lemina. “If (Max) Allegri decided to use him, then it’s a choice that was carefully considered. The formation is a little new, but we are in a phase of the season where we need to get the characteristics of the players fitting into the right group. I am confident, as we are very motivated. “We aren’t yet in the best physical shape, as that will arrive in around a month and a half, just as it did last season. Players arrived at different stages of pre-season training, so it’ll take a while for everyone to be on the same page in terms of sharpness and pace. “Allegri is studying the best methods, considering it is a long season and last term showed us how we can recover. In Serie A we are top of the table and have to stay there.” http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10?ICID=MP_TN_167 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

The Bianconeri were looking for their first Champions League win of the season after a 0-0 draw with Sevilla, but lost Medhi Benatia, Daniele Rugani, Kwadwo Asamoah and Claudio Marchisio to injury. It had been a tough time for Dinamo, as Coach Zlatko Kranjcar took over in the summer and resigned after three consecutive defeats in all competition on September 18. Caretaker manager Zeljko Sopic sensationally dropped star player Ante Coric following a row over his attitude, while Petar Stojanovic, Alexandru Matel and Ali Karimi were injured. Gonzalo Higuain volleyed over under pressure on a Dani Alves cross and Hernanes pulled a couple of long-range efforts off target, but the tempo was initially very slow from both sides. The visitors dominated possession, as Dinamo didn’t even try to get out of their own half. Juve broke the deadlock when a long Leonardo Bonucci ball was flicked on by Leonardo Sigali, but Pjanic snuck in there before the goalkeeper could arrive and prodded it into the empty net. Moments later, Dinamo should’ve equalised, but the crossbar came to the rescue as Gordon Schildenfeld rose to meet a Domagoj Antolic free kick. The Bianconeri survived the scare and doubled their lead. Higuain chested and volleyed a marvellous Pjanic ball over the top, side-footing in from 12 yards. The assist from the Bosnian was Pirlo-esque. Bonucci was decisive to intercept in the six-yard box when El Arabi Hilal Soudani sprinted down the left and pulled back for Schildenfeld, while at the other end Sami Khedira took advantage of a defensive slip, but his header was cleared almost off the line. Midfielder Pjanic only played 45 minutes, yet still played an influential role in helping Massimiliano Allegri's side end a run of four games without a win in the competition that stretched back to November 2015. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international opened the scoring with a delicate volley in the 24th minute before setting up the second for Gonzalo Higuain, who was afforded far too much space by the Zagreb defence. Paulo Dybala broke his duck for the season with a left-footed strike in the 57th minute, while a miserable night for the hosts was rounded out by goalkeeper Adrian Semper knocking Dani Alves' deflected free-kick into his own net. The result was the perfect response for Juventus after a 0-0 draw with Sevilla in their opening European game, particularly with a trip to Lyon up next. Dinamo's 2016/17 Champions League campaign had begun with a 3-0 loss at Lyon, a result that – along with poor form in domestic action – cost manager Zlatko Kranjcar his job. Caretaker boss Zeljko Sopic had overseen an upturn in results at home since taking charge, but facing Juventus was easily the toughest fixture of his brief tenure. Higuain hooked a Alves cross over the bar in the opening minutes as the visitors dominated from the outset, although they needed help from their opponents to break the deadlock. Leonardo Bonucci's forward pass from the halfway line caused confusion at the heart of the Dinamo defence, resulting in Leonardo Sigali inadvertently heading the ball the wrong way to set up Pjanic's deft finish beyond Semper. Dinamo came close to getting back on terms immediately, with their first effort at goal seeing defender Gordon Schildenfeld plant a header from a free-kick against the bar. The disappointment at being denied by the woodwork at one end was compounded by Juventus doubling their lead before the interval. Having scored the first, Pjanic set up the second with a long pass over the top to Higuain, who controlled the ball on his chest before steering a left-footed volley into the corner of the net. Although injury cut short Pjanic's match, with Juan Cuadrado replacing him before the second half, Juventus didn't struggle in the absence of the former Roma player. Any slim hopes of a Dinamo comeback disappeared when Dybala was allowed time and space to take aim from distance, the forward lashing a shot home from outside the area to finally get off the mark. Marko Pjaca and Mario Mandzukic came off the bench to face their former club but it was a current Dinamo player who was credited with the last goal, teenager Semper failing to keep out an Alves set-piece that had ballooned up off the wall. Victory sees Juventus take top spot in Group H, sitting ahead of Sevilla on goal difference after two games. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10?ICID=MP_TN_167 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Pjanic went off with a left thigh twinge, so was replaced for the second half by Juan Cuadrado. Paulo Dybala was still looking for his first goal of the season in all competition and found it with an absolute screamer from over 30 metres out, flying into the near top corner. It was only La Joya’s second career Champions League strike. Max Allegri gave Dinamo Zagreb old boys Marko Pjaca and Mario Mandzukic a run-out at the Stadion Maksimir. The winger almost scored straight away, finishing a mazy run with his curling finish as Semper parried with a combination of wrists and chin. Dani Alves had a quiet game overall, but contributed to the fourth with a rather strange goal. Just days after his deflected effort gave Juve the victory in Palermo, he did it again. A free kick bounced into the air off Filip Benkovic in the wall and Semper failed to flap it out from under the crossbar. It was only Juve’s second Champions League victory in the last eight attempts, but put them top of the group with Sevilla, who beat Lyon 1-0. Goals from Miralem Pjanic and Gonzalo Higuain got the party in Croatia started and Paulo Dybala’s left-footed hammer — not bad for your first goal of the season, huh? — was the exclamation point on a fine all-around team performance in Juventus’ 4-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday night. You wanted domination, you got domination. It was cruise control from start to finish and the kind of European performance that was about the exact opposite of how Juve opened the Champions League group stage two weeks ago in front of their hometown crowd. It was the kind of game that probably had Juventus director general Beppe Marotta sitting back in his chair, hoping he had a cigar to puff on and thinking about how well he spent money this summer. Pjanic? Good. Higuain? Good. Dybala, while already having been around for a season, very good. That’s what Juventus needs in these kinds of European games. It doesn’t matter who the opponent is, really. When you’ve got arguably your top three players contributing the way they did — scoring goals, setting up goals, creating chances — for the better part of the evening, this Juventus team is going to be successful. And that’s exactly what happened. Now, because of it, there’s no more pressure about getting a first Champions League win the third time out when Juve head to France to face Lyon in the middle of October. None of that. It will now be about not only going into the international break with momentum like it was last month, but also trying to firmly establish their hold atop the group. Keep doing those wonderful things you do on the field. I so much wanted that final score to finish at 3-0 based on what Max Allegri had to say at his pre-match press conference on Monday night. Instead, Juventus just had to go ahead and score a fourth goal with the clock winding down. So we get to fit a poker mention into this game. Hey, that’s fine with me. I don’t mind talking about Juventus wins in Europe. They’re totally okay with me. RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS Allegri got both of the former Dinamo Zagreb players, Marko Pjaca and Mario Mandzukic, onto the field in the second half. That’s good on you, Max. No, seriously, how good was Dybala’s goal? I mean, that’s the look of a guy who’s got his confidence back. You don’t try a shot like that if you’re not feeling good — and the result was even better. That was a bomb. You can’t strike a ball better than Dybala hit that one. Take a bow, our little jewel. Following Tuesday’s results, Juventus are atop Group H and have, by far, the best goal differential of the group. So, hey, maybe the sky isn’t falling like we all thought after the scoreless draw against Sevilla. Juventus’ defense was absolutely superb. Dinamo had all of four shots TOTAL and Gigi Buffon didn’t have to make a save the entire game. That’s something I can get used to. Dani Alves is on pace to score a goal in each game he plays the rest of the season and all of them will come on deflections. That’s probably something that’s sustainable, right? A goal and an assist for Pjanic on Tuesday. Following the game he had over the weekend against Palermo, that’s exactly the kind of response you want. See how much easier things are when he’s clicking? That’s the kind of player Juve are going to need him to be — especially with Claudio Marchisio still out for another month at the very least — more often than not if they want to be successful. Juventus playing ... well with Hernanes in the lineup this season? Say whaaaaaa? JUVENTUS WON IN EUROPE AND DIDN’T KILL OUR HEARTS IN THE PROCESS. That was a pleasant change to say the least. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10?ICID=MP_TN_167 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Sep 27, 2016 Marko Pjaca warned his Juventus team-mates that Tuesday's Champions League clash with former club Dinamo Zagreb would be "no cakewalk". In the end, though, that's exactly what it was, with the Bianconeri cruising to a 4-0 victory over arguably the weakest side that they have faced so far this season. However, while the dreadful quality of the opposition has to be taken into account, Juve still deserve the utmost credit for the way in which they went about their business. Indeed, right from the first whistle, they took both the initiative and control of the game, with Miralem Pjanic making mockery of the decision to start him on the bench for the opening-round stalemate with Sevilla with a wonderfully commanding and inventive performance in a more advanced midfield role. Of course, Zagreb are currently without a coach - and it showed. The game-plan - if caretaker boss Zeljko Sopic had one - appeared to be defend for dear life in the hope of sneaking a draw. That baseless dream died after just 24 minutes of play, after a farcical mix-up at the heart of the Dinamo defence. Gordon Schildenfeld attempted to intercept a Leonardo Bonucci pass that he never had any hope of reaching and, in doing so, appeared to distract Leonardo Sigali, who, caught by surprise, somehow contrived to head the ball behind up into the air and down onto the right boot of Pjanic, who finished first-time with aplomb. The classy Bosnian then turned creator, producing a sublime ball in behind the Dinamo back four that Gonzalo Higuain controlled deftly on his chest before coolly volleying home with his left foot. It was a dream goal from Beppe Morotta's perspective, with two of the Juventus director general's summer signings combining to devastating effect. However, it was the third goal that will really have pleased coach Massimiliano Allegri, with Paulo Dybala finding the back of the net for the first time this season with a stunning strike from distance. The 22-year-old admitted last week that his confidence had been affected by his goal drought and there was some concern over just how he would react to being dropped to the bench for last weekend's Serie A clash with former club Palermo. His 30-metre thunderbolt was thus the perfect riposte. Dani Alves made it 4-0 with five minutes remaining with a deflected free-kick that Adrian Semper effectively pushed into his own net but, by that stage, it was already a case of job well done for a Juve side that has flattered to deceive so far this season. The injury that forced the impressive Pjanic off at half-time was undeniably concerning but the former Roma man admitted afterwards that he expects to make a swift recovery. "I got a kick just under my calf muscle but I hope everything will be fine to be fit to face Empoli this weekend,” he told Mediaset Premium shortly after the full-time whistle. “We got the message tonight, were humble and these are the three points we were waiting for." Happily, Dybala also got the goal that he was waiting for and the Argentine getting off the mark in such spectacular fashion was the abiding memory on an otherwise pleasing night for everyone involved with Juve - even Pjaca, who enjoyed 20 minutes of game time in what was unquestionably a cakewalk. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10?ICID=MP_TN_167 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Šemper Put in a bad situation by his defenders for the first goal, but could do nothing about the second. Could have done better with Dybala's long-range effort and was entirely at fault for Juve's fourth in a disappointing display. 26F. Benković Sat deep in midfield and was fairly strong in the air, helping to add a combative edge to Dinamo's midfield five. 19J. Pivarić Made a couple of hurried clearances to defuse dangerous situations, but struggled against Alves overlapping at times. 22L. Sigali Gave away a few cheap free-kicks, but was generally quite strong in the air over the 90 minutes. 23G. Schildenfeld Thumped the crossbar with a first-half header and wasn't afraid to get forward. Did cover for Sigali quite well, but couldn't hold things together by himself. 5Jonas Substituted just after the half-time break, after a quiet showing. Occasionally shuffled across to deny Evra, but was largely anonymous. 18D. Pavičić Did whip a couple of balls in from deep, but wasn't able to influence the game too much due to how Dinamo were pegged back. 8D. Antolić Threatened with his set-pieces at times, but was largely unable to have an effect on proceedings during open play. 11J. Fernándes Looked to hold the ball up whenever possible, as Dinamo tried to counter at pace, but was unable to cause any problems. 2E. Soudani His pace did cause the odd problem when he was released in behind the full-backs, but the Algerian wide man had no end product. 7M. Šitum Tenacious in the tackle and wasn't afraid to try and push on and threaten on the overlap for the hosts. Juventus 1G. Buffon Had nothing to do before the break, and was similarly a spectator for most of the second half. Comfortable clean sheet. 15A. Barzagli Made a couple of good interceptions to protect his back post, but the ex-Palermo defender was largely untested. 23Dani Alves Whipped in some teasing crosses from the right early on, with a free-kick effort from the Brazilian forcing Juve's fourth of the night. 33P. Evra Tireless when working down the left-hand side. Did offer width when the visitors were on the attack, but tracked back brilliantly. 19L. Bonucci Made some important interventions inside his own area and wasn't afraid to step out of his back four with the ball. Key to retaining possession calmly. 3G. Chiellini Combative and ensured that he stayed tight to his man throughout. Made a bad mistake late on, but was otherwise flawless. 5M. Pjanić Slotted home the opening goal confidently, after reading the situation well, before providing a great assist for Higuain. Given a rest at the break. 6S. Khedira Went close with a first-half header, but his touch let him down on a few separate occasions. Didn't quite have his match sharpness. 11Hernanes Wasn't afraid to shoot from range, but didn't offer a great deal of cutting edge in midfield. Instead was patient on the ball. 9G. Higuaín Scored Juventus' second of the evening, taking a lovely touch on his chest before passing home a volleyed finish. 21P. Dybala Had a quiet first half, but thumped home an excellent effort from 30 yards out to make it 3-0 to Juventus. Won some good late free-kicks. Substitutes 29I. Sep 27, 2016 Miralem Pjanic said Juventus “got the message” ahead of their 4-0 win at Dinamo Zagreb and only received a knock. The Bosnia international scored one goal and set up another for Gonzalo Higuain in the Champions League clash, then limped off at half-time. “I got a kick just under my calf muscle, but I hope everything will be fine to be fit against Empoli this weekend,” he told Mediaset Premium. “We got the message, were humble, know what we want, want to win and these are the three points we were waiting for. “If we look at the performance against Palermo, we clearly need to improve and occupy the spaces better. We had some good chances tonight and did what the Coach asked.” Pjanic was originally used as a deep-lying midfield playmaker, but has now been redirected to a less central role. What is his best position? “People have been asking me that for five years. I put myself at the disposal of the Coach, as I already played in front of the defence at Roma and did well, it all depends on how the team plays and the movements. “I also like being closer to the goal so I can set up the strikers. I am here, part of the squad and play where the Coach wants me to.” http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10?ICID=MP_TN_167 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Sep 27, 2016 Max Allegri again urged Juventus to “avoid complacency” after a 4-0 Champions League demolition of Dinamo Zagreb. The Bianconeri made short work of their Croatian opponents, winning 4-0 away from home with Miralem Pjanic, Paulo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuain and a deflected Dani Alves free kick. “Dybala got his first goal of the season, I am happy for him and for the team. It was important to get our first Champions League win of the season,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium. “The side took the right approach. We made some mistakes in the second half, when we could’ve played better, and still need to improve. We need to play cleaner. “We are working, we’ve only been together for 40 days and there are players who arrived after the Euros. It takes time to get the players into a unit and we’ve had a fairly decent start, all told.” When Pjanic went off with a knock at half-time, Allegri introduced right-winger Juan Cuadrado. “When we moved to four at the back to rest Andrea Barzagli, we played with two more attacking wingers. It was also an experiment for the future to see how it worked. “Cuadrado played at Palermo and tonight, but before that he hadn’t played a game for four months.” Allegri said after the 0-0 draw with Sevilla that Juventus “can’t win every game 3-0.” So does this mean they should win 4-0? “I repeat it, as the real challenge for Juventus now is to avoid complacency and the illusion that we’ll win each game easily. As well as improving our overall performance, Juventus must bring home results, keep our feet on the ground and not lose sight of our objectives. “Don’t forget that achievements are all the sweeter when you must struggle to reach them. The Bosnian playmaker opened the scoring in the Croatian capital before setting up Gonzalo Higuain for a quickfire second. Injury forced Pjanic to remain in the changing room following half-time but Paulo Dybala added gloss to the scoreline with a long-range contribution shortly after the restart. Just to rub salt into Dinamo's wounds, home goalkeeper Adrian Semper managed to fumble Dani Alves' late deflected effort into his own net. Juve -- the 2015 finalists -- reach four points after bolstering their opening-day draw with Sevilla with a maiden win while Zagreb are rooted to the bottom of the pool after losing back-to-back games. Seeking his first away Champions League goal since 2011, when he scored for Real Madrid at Ajax, Higuain tried his luck early on but could only volley the ball over the bar. Pjanic's first contribution in a dazzling first-half display saw him pick out the rampaging Alves on the right wing for a first-time shot that the Brazilian steered off-target under defensive pressure. Hernanes and then Patrice Evra gave Zagreb goalkeeper Semper further food for thought with attempts, turning the screw as Juve probed for the inevitable opener. That came in the 24th minute when the inspired Pjanic latched onto a poor headed clearance by Leonardo Sigali, taking one touch to round the keeper before slipping the ball in at the far post. Dinamo hit back with Gordon Schildenfeld clattering the frame of the goal with a header from Domagoj Antolic's free-kick but five minutes later Pjanic was once again working his magic. A perfectly weighted overhead through-ball met Higuain and the Argentinian controlled with his chest before beating Semper. Pjanic would not return for the second half, though. A thigh problem necessitated his withdrawal for flying winger Juan Cuadrado, chosen for the time being ahead of local favourite Marko Pjaca. Juve were not altogether poorer without their Bosnian schemer and had their third goal barely 10 minutes into the second half. Sami Khedira was the provider for Dybala, who opened his account for the season from 25 yards. Pjaca, who won consecutive domestic doubles with Dinamo before moving to Italy, made his return as a 68th-minute substitute, with another Zagreb hero, Mario Mandzukic, following close behind. He caused no offence on his homecoming, however, with his stinging curler forcing a parry from Semper before Cuadrado spurned Juve's next chance when finding the keeper from close range. The match was grinding to a halt when Alves took aim with a free-kick. The wall jumped and caused the ball to loop up above Semper's head, with the keeper then somehow punching it behind himself. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10?ICID=MP_TN_167 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

We were unable to react right from the start. “I already said yesterday that Juventus have the potential to win the Champions League and that’s the impression I have now too. “The physical condition of the Bianconeri will be decisive in the Spring. This was a match that required no effort from the Italians as the hosts ceded ambition rather quickly, almost refusing to apply pressure or close down Juve. Allowed all the time and space to operate, this was an intensely easy match for Massimiliano Allegri's men, who barely broke a sweat to ensure maximum points in their second match of the group stage. Positives Paulo Dybala's stunning goal should alleviate the pressure on the Argentine's shoulders, allowing him to revel in the game rather than surrender to over-complicating it in a bid to compensate. Meanwhile, Miralem Pjanic finally provided the performance Juventus needed, demonstrating his vision and intelligence to both create and score. Negatives This isn't a victory to rave about largely because the opponent proved so weak and so full of defensive errors. Yet despite the win, Juventus still looked off the pace, playing in a pedestrian-like manner that hardly inspired excitement. There were further demonstrations of inaccuracies, of wasted opportunities and of little courage. This should have been a game in which Juve exploited the opponent's frailties to play with confidence, flair and freedom, especially in the second half when Dinamo Zagreb lost all ambition. Manager rating out of 10 6 -- Massimiliano Allegri released Pjanic in midfield by tasking Hernanes with the defensive responsibility. Juventus played comfortably, excelling in attack. Experimented with the 4-3-3 formation in the end, which will help the side develop tactically. Player ratings (1-10; 10=best; players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating): GK Gianluigi Buffon, 6 -- One shot rattled the crossbar to entertain the goalkeeper, who was largely a spectator for the entire match. DF Andrea Barzagli, 6 -- Closed down perfectly, this was another of his usual composed and intelligent performances. DF Leonardo Bonucci, 6 -- Struggled with Gordon Schildenfeld's cross but barring that, he recovered the ball well and instigated movements. DF Giorgio Chiellini, 6 -- Barely contributed much to the game, wasn't called into action too often but largely contained any potential threat. WB Dani Alves, 7 -- Perfect crosses, a winning mentality and always dedicated to dominating the right lane, Alves ensures attacking brilliance. He created more chances than any other Juve player and was always prepared to produce the tackle that would win back possession. His set piece resulted in Juve's fourth goal with the goalkeeper registering an own goal. Miralem Pjanic took advantage of the space afforded him by Dinamo Zagreb, scoring once and assisting on another in Juventus' 4-0 win. MF Sami Khedira, 6 -- Seems to have slowed down from his spectacular start to the season. A little out of rhythm but always contributes to the collective. MF Hernanes, 6 -- Clumsy with his movements, he attempted to take several shots on goal from outside the box, none of which resulted in anything. However, he was effective in releasing Pjanic and taking on the defensive responsibility. MF Miralem Pjanic, 8 -- Really proved the value of his visionary play, providing the perfect pass that led to Gonzalo Higuain's goal and scoring a beauty of his own. WB Patrice Evra, 6 -- Played with experience and intelligence. However, he doesn't offer the same energy levels and stamina as Alex Sandro. FW Paulo Dybala, 7 -- Finally scored his first goal of the season, a beautiful strike 30 yards from goal that should boost his confidence. Was offered all the time and space to operate. Good feet from the player but needs to learn how to avoid congestion and create space for himself when surrounded. FW Gonzalo Higuain, 8 -- Demonstrating beautiful control to finish superbly, Higuain scored Juve's second and fought relentlessly, making timely runs forward. Gives depth to the attack and combined beautifully with Dybala. World class on the night. Substitutes: MF Juan Cuadrado, 6 -- Struggled in midfield but he offers ideas and acceleration. FW Marko Pjaca, 6 -- Accelerated well, good strength on the ball. Played with hunger and desire. FW Mario Mandzukic, 6 -- Missed a good opportunity, looking a little off the pace. Never one to shy from a challenge. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10?ICID=MP_TN_167 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Luca Cetta charts their start to the campaign to see whether they are warranted. http://www.football-italia.net/92142/juventus-great-expectations? Sep 28, 2016 Leonardo Bonucci could hardly believe what he was hearing. “I won’t say it annoyed me, but I was certainly let down by the attitude of the fans over the course of the 90 minutes,” he said. “Juventus need to be supported and yesterday there were people who already started grumbling after 20 minutes.” The match in question was Juve’s opening Champions League clash with Sevilla. They were held to a frustrating scoreless draw, with summer signing Gonzalo Higuain rattling the crossbar. Days later Juve gave what Coach Massimiliano Allegri described as one of the worst technical performances he has seen three decades, in a 2-1 loss to rivals Inter. The twin results raised questions about the Turin giants. Are expectations surrounding the team too high? Bonucci seems to think so. Giorgio Chiellini added that Juve never have and never will be Real Madrid. Fans cannot expect regular thrashings. After signing the likes of Higuain, Miralem Pjanic and Medhi Benatia, plus highlighting the Champions League as a major objective this season, just what is acceptable? They go into this weekend’s clash against Empoli a point clear at the top of Serie A. The fixture list produced a difficult start, with the Bianconeri opening up against four of last season’s top eight – plus Sevilla in Europe. They looked better in demolishing Cagliari, but produced a lethargic performance against Palermo. It was a match decided only by an outrageous own goal. Allegri acknowledged it was a poor night at the office. Given the summer additions this Juventus squad has the hallmarks of one still under construction. Allegri has chopped and changed regularly. Some of that forced, still it is not the Juve many expected. The Sevilla match was case in point. The negative visitors rarely threatened Gianluigi Buffon, yet Juve retained three central defenders. They have mostly stuck to that base throughout the season and switching on a more regular basis must be considered. That match led to the grumbles and yet Juve are top of Serie A and their Champions League group. The boss says they are doing what they must and that is to win matches. It was also a much better showing against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday. The 4-0 win was Juve’s biggest away from home in the Champions League since smashing Rangers by the same score in 1995-96. It does ask the question of whether only domestic success is enough for Juventus. Already the dominant force in calcio, they weakened both Napoli and Roma with their summer signings. The run to the Champions League Final in 2015 whetted the European appetite. Now 20 years since their last triumph it is the trophy fans crave. The club too. While that is an ambition, Juventus cannot rest on their domestic laurels. The Inter match showed why. As did last season, when it took a momentous recovery from an awful start to claim the Scudetto. There are challengers waiting in the wings, from Napoli and Roma to a resurgent Nerazzurri. There are improvements the Old Lady can make. Higuain leads the scoring with five goals, but until Paulo Dybala’s goal on Tuesday he was the only striker to find the back of the net. Juventus will also need to get more out of Pjanic. He was shackled in the deep-lying midfield role against Inter, whereas he’s had more of a say when playing alongside the central figure in a three-man midfield. The latest example was against Dinamo as Pjanic scored and created a goal. That has to be the position for the Bosnian heading forward, especially with Claudio Marchisio close to returning. Juve must also improve defensively. All four goals conceded in Serie A have been from crosses into the penalty area, including three from corners. They were nearly caught out by Dinamo too. It is unusual for a side normally so miserly. Even Buffon caught the bug against Sassuolo. While clearly not at their best, Juventus have won the majority of matches so far. Their Champions League group is manageable, while players will be returning from injury heading towards the final stretch before Christmas. And it’s a long season. Allegri is looking to the long haul. Seasons are not won or lost in September, as the Bianconeri showed last season. Despite their issues there is a sense Juve can go up a gear. For now, expectations must be kept in check. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10?ICID=MP_TN_167 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

The Argentina international -- an Italian domestic transfer record €90-million arrival from Napoli this summer -- helped the Bianconeri pick up their first win in Europe this season with a goal in a 4-0 triumph at Dinamo Zagreb. It was already his fifth goal in a black and white shirt and reinforced his conviction that he made the right move in joining Juve this summer. "This is a good spell for me," Higuain told Mediaset television. "I've only been here for two months and everything's new to me, but I'm getting better bit by bit. I'm trying to get to know my teammates and they are trying to get to know me. "Maybe we're not at our very best yet, but we're getting there and I'm delighted to be at Juventus. I was made to feel welcome here from the first moment." Alongside him in the Juve attack on Tuesday night was Paulo Dybala, who also found the back of the net. "I prefer to have Paulo close to me, but it all comes down to how the circumstances change during matches," Higuain said. "This was a great game in terms of our attitude: we won and we're heading the way we want to be heading and now we hope to win again before the [international] break." Although they are top of Serie A and leading their Champions League group, the Bianconeri have drawn criticism in a defeat to Inter Milan and a narrow 1-0 win over Palermo in recent weeks. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10?ICID=MP_TN_167 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Sep 28, 2016 Having laboured in recent weeks, Tuesday night saw Juventusrediscover their cutting edge in attack, running out comfortable 4-0 winners away to Dinamo Zagreb in their second UEFAChampions League group game. Indeed, before this encounter at the Stadion Maksimir, the Bianconeriopened their 2016/17 European campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw to Sevilla, while also looking far from their best in Serie A wins over Cagliari and Palermo as well as a 2-1 loss to Inter Milan at SanSiro. "I think, though, that Juventus must get our feet back on the ground and be practical and solid," coach Massimiliano Allegri demanded at his pre-match press conference. "The fact is that to win games you have to work, sweat, toil and play well." STRINGER/Getty Images Max Allegri pushed his players to deliver. Clearly the Juve boss was expecting his players to show improvement, and they would do just that, turning on the style somewhat in a match that showcased the very best talents of their two major summer signings. Just in case the Bianconeri needed a helping hand to kickstart their season, Dinamo's back line was certainly in a charitable mood after just 24 minutes. Leonardo Bonucci played a long ball forward that Leonardo Sigali inexplicably flicked backwards, and Miralem Pjanicsnuck in behind the defence to slot beyond goalkeeper Adrian Semper. Darko Bandic/Associated Press Miralem Pjanic was on target for Juve. It was almost comical in execution and just what the ailing Old Lady needed, putting her firmly in the driving seat, but the scorer went on to ensure they did not look back in a thoroughly dominant opening 45 minutes. Allegri appears to have learned his lesson after testing Pjanic in the central role of his 3-5-2 against Inter, once again fielding him on the left of the midfield three where he can move much more freely around the pitch. The 26-year-old was everywhere in the first half, winning tackles, pressing defenders and working in unison with those around him, but—as the FourFourTwo Stats Zone graphic in the tweet below highlights—it was his passing that truly made the difference. "It was like watching a young Andrea Pirlo stroll around out there, bossing the game," one supporter told Bleacher Report as the half-time whistle blew. If there was one moment where that comparison held true, it was almost certainly the pass Pjanic delivered to GonzaloHiguain to double Juve's lead. Collecting the ball just inside the opposition half, he delivered it with perfect timing to the advancing striker, who in turn chested it down before volleying it into the net from around 12 yards out. Darko Bandic/Associated Press Higuain is showing why Juve paid big money for him this summer. It was the kind of goal that justified the club's massive summer outlay on the duo, with Higuain in particular brought in with the Champions League specifically in mind. After the departure of his compatriot Carlos Tevez from Juventus one year earlier, the move for the Napolistar appeared to be recognition that they needed a striker who could deliver on the biggest stage. His critics will sneer and point to the Copa America and FIFA World Cup final misses that saw Higuain ridiculed, but the past 12 months have seen him raise his game to a far higher standard. The fact he scored 36 goals in 35 Serie A appearances last term should be proof enough, yet the question of his ability to perform when the spotlight is firmly upon him still arguably remained unanswered. He has netted four times already in Serie A, despite figures fromWhoScored.com showing that his number of shots per league game has fallen from 5.2 shots last season to just 2.3 this term. Unsurprisingly, that return stems from an improvement in his accuracy, with Squawka figures indicating Higuain has hit the target with 64 per cent of his attempts in 2016/17 compared to 57 per cent with Napoli a year earlier. View image on Twitter Follow WhoScored.com ✔@WhoScored Gonzalo Higuaín: Has scored or assisted at least 4 more goals (23) than any other player in Serie A in 2016 12:15 PM - 18 Sep 2016 2929 Retweets 3636 likes One stunning fact was noted in this Opta tweet, with the goal againstDinamo marking the first time Higuain had netted in an away Champions League game since a 2011 fixture between Ajax and Real Madrid. The man himself was delighted that he had scored, but after the match, he discussed his growing partnership with Paulo Dybala, tellingMediaset Premium (h/t Football Italia) that they have not yet found their rhythm together: At times I ask him to play closer to me, though it all depends on the circumstances of the game. I prefer him closer, but in the end it's his choice. I am in a good moment of form, but we're still at the beginning, settling in with new teammates and system. I will improve game after game and winning helps you to win. We are not yet at the top of our capabilities, but we are getting the results in the meantime. Darko Bandic/Associated Press Dybala celebrates the end of his goal drought. One reason Higuain's continued brilliance in front of goal has been so important to Juventus has been the struggles of his compatriot Dybala, with the former Palermo man suffering in his second campaign with the club. Indeed, after netting 21 goals last term, he had yet to find the back of the net this season, much to the concern of fans and observers of theBianconeri. He would end that drought in spectacular fashion, however, scoring Juve's third with a sublime second-half effort from around 30 metres out. It was the kind of goal he has made a habit of plundering: his shot dipping and swerving viciously to leave the opposition goalkeeper with very little hope of stopping it. "It's tough when you don't score, but I found the net tonight and it went well," Dybala admitted to Mediaset Premium shortly after the full-time whistle (h/t Football Italia). "I thought that I was doing OK anyway, so long as the team was winning and I didn't score, it was fine. I continue playing the same way and I just do what the coach says." Those words may seem somewhat cliched, but it certainly will not hurtJuventus to have the 22-year-old back among the goals. With him andHiguain in tandem and Pjanic supplying the ammunition, any other problem within the Juventus starting XI will almost certainly fade into the background. Goals don't just change football matches, they win them, and few net more often than Juve's Argentinian duo. On Tuesday night, they were on the scoresheet together for the first time as team-mates, and it will not be the last. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10?ICID=MP_TN_167 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Sep 28, 2016 Player Ratings Buffon – N/A Bonucci – It was his forward pass that led to the defensive disaster allowing Pjanic to open the scoring, other than which big Leo was in imperious, untroubled form. 7 Chiellini – Great to see him almost back to his best, for besides a slip late on, which went unpunished, he ran no risks and drove forward when nothing seemed open ahead of him. 7 Barzagli – Quiet as a mouse but made one vital clearance with one of the few useful balls played into our box. 7 Alves – Definitely growing on me as he grows into the team. Supported the attack with clever passing and impressive control and forced the fourth with his deflected free kick late on. 7 Evra – Seemed a little rusty, but showed good stamina and played a solid part in the victory. 7 Hernanes – Went about his work with tidiness and discipline, maintaining keen positional focus and came close with a long range effort. I like the balance he brings to the side, and in absence of Marchisio, he is fast becoming the most obvious option at DM. Safe, intelligent and calm. 7 Pjanic – Was alive to the chance which fell his way for the opening goal, produced a gorgeous assist for Higuain and his distribution throughout was top drawer. A shame he went off injured and I hope he returns to the ranks soon. 7 Khedira – Off the pace and culpable of wasting several promising opportunities in the final third through poor control. Largely ineffective. 5.5. Dybala – He works so damn hard and I was overjoyed to see him break his duck in sublime fashion. Picking up the ball 35 yards out from goal, he found the channel, and unleashed a superb finish. Also had a chance late on but couldn’t get enough power on his shot. 7 Higuain – Took his goal splendidly, other than which was crowded out by an extremely defensive opponent. Five games, five goals. A promising start to his career in black and white. 7 Cuadrado – Brought on to play in a CML position, where he fared well enough against a beaten side. Seemed more lively when moved to the right. Average. 6 Pjaca – Was close to scoring when showing superb acceleration to find the angle for a shot. He looks dangerous every time he plays. 6.5 Mandzukic – Fumbled one chance then simply made up the numbers. 6. Reasons to be cheerful A 0-4 away victory in the champions league is a fine result, regardless of the very average nature of our opponents. I cannot suggest that we played anywhere near our potential, but we were improved defensively and the major difference between the Palermo game was that we took our chances. Another clean sheet, our third on the trot, the defence and midfield are becoming more balanced, with just the one chance conceded from the header against the bar. Other than which, we rarely moved out of second gear. Classy showing from our new recruit… Higuain, Alves and Pjanic, are all swiftly finding their feet in our colours. It is early days and we have far more to come, but despite the lethargic performances sandwiched in between the more confident showings, we have played 6, scored 13 and conceded 4. Which has found us leading Serie A and top of our group in the champions league. If this is how we fare, in terms of results, when we are out of form, still trying to find our feet, the future looks very bright indeed. The Empoli and Udinese fixtures give us a a great opportunity to build upon this result, and gain some momentum for the crunch tie against Lyon, which if won, seems likely to put us in a strong position to qualify for the second round. Whilst we were superior in all departments, and ran close to zero risks, I must repeat my happiness at seeing Hernanes in the side. He uses his experience intelligently, and offers far more maturity and adeptness in the integral DM position than any other we have played there thus far this term. However, he is yet to play against anyone decent, but so far, so good. Reasons to be bothered The one chance we conceded came yet again from a set piece. I believe that 3 of the 4 goals conceded this season have come from corners. We are improving at the back and in the middle, but we must improve our concentration and marking. I believe that the BBC have taken a while to regain their sharpness after their extended outing through the Summer in France. Now we are returning to resoluteness at the back, and this improvement must continue, for we will face far tougher tests in the future. Khedira was listless yet again. We could afford to carry him in this tie, yet perhaps it is for the best to give him a break and offer Lemina the chance to impress in a role where he seems more comfortable than anywhere else. Sami had a busy summer and has been involved in all but one of our games this season. As Higuain noted after the game… “At times I ask him to play closer to me, though it all depends on the circumstances of the game,” Higuain told Mediaset Premium. “I prefer him closer, but in the end it’s his choice. I am in a good moment of form, but we’re still at the beginning, settling in with new teammates and system. “I will improve game after game and winning helps you to win. We are not yet at the top of our capabilities, but we are getting the results in the meantime. “I am happy to be here and felt at ease from the first moment I arrived. Now we are trying to work out the best movements, but with time it will improve. “We wanted to play with the right attitude this evening and we did that.” Dybala has appeared to be playing deeper this season, as aforementioned in previous comments, his movement is very much combined between a RM and AM, rather than a second striker. I can but assume this is intentional, which also translates to less goals, and perhaps once (or if!) we can strike a better balance in midfield, we can move Paulo higher up the field, where we know from last season, he can prove more potent. Overall, we have to be content with the performance and especially the result. We did all that was needed and sharpness if not yet cohesion is blossoming throughout the squad. Zagreb were playing 8 behind the ball for much of the first half, and we showed patience and our quality shone through. No new injuries, more gold in the coffers for the victory, comfortable standings domestically and in Europe, and we are still to recover Il Principino, Sturaro, Mandragora and give Pjaca the chance to impress with more than 20 minutes remaining on the clock. A job well done. I doff my virtual panama to Allegri and the lads. Post-Match comments from the boss: “Dybala got his first goal of the season, I am happy for him and for the team. It takes time to get the players into a unit and we’ve had a fairly decent start, all told.” “When we moved to four at the back to rest Andrea Barzagli, we played with two more attacking wingers. It was also an experiment for the future to see how it worked. “Cuadrado played at Palermo and tonight, but before that he hadn’t played a game for four months.” Forza Juve. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10?ICID=MP_TN_167 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Juventus travelled to Zagreb on Tuesday night with the aim of kick-starting their UEFA Champions League campaign after a disappointing first game at home to Sevilla two weeks ago. The build-up featured statements by Coach Max Allegri stating quite plainly that Juventus had to get the three points. Recent performances (the aforementioned Sevilla game, the loss to Inter and win away to Palermo) had shaken early season optimism after some quality signings in the summer. Patrice Evra was again selected over Alex Sandro to run the left flank, and surprisingly Hernanes was chose to start over Mario Lemina. Paulo Dybala was reinstated to the starting eleven after his "rest" on the weekend. Mario Mandzukic and Marko Pjaca were returning to their former club and home stadium, Stadion Maksimir, with the 21 year old winger having only left Dinamo Zagreb a few weeks ago. For the Croats, DZG were missing their 19 year old star playmaker Ante Coric, allegedly dropped for disciplinary issues. Shot stopper Adrian Šemper has already made himself DZG's number one between the posts, despite his tender age of 18 (remind you of anyone?). MATCH SUMMARY A sedated opening, the most notable chances came via a Hernanes long range shot, and a volley by Gonazlo Higuain - both off target. Juventus expectedly controlled possession, patiently prodding the ball around, looking for an opening. The breakthrough for Juve came on twenty-four minutes, as a long pass out the back by Leonardo Bonucci, led to a mix-up in the Zagreb defence; with defenders Gordon Schildenfeld and Leonardo Sigali distracting each other and the latter flicking the ball skywards for Miralem Pjanic to sneak in and toe-poke past young Semper in the goal. If, after the goal, Juventus thought the rest of the game would be a walk in the park, well Schildenfeld quickly put that notion to bed. The big defender got above his marker to head a Domagoj Antolic free kick onto the bar! It would have been the fourth goal conceded from a set piece this season; clearly an area of concern for Juve. Not much longer before it was 2-0 for Juventus. This time it was the Bosnian midfielder with a marvellous assist - a Pirlo-esque long ball over the defence - for Gonzalo Higuain to control on the chest and side foot past the goalie. It was the Argentine's first of hopefully many more goals for Juventus in the Champions League. Pjanic was taken off at the half; a precaution as the Bosnian reported a knock to the thigh. Juan Cuadrado was his replacement, as the Colombian recorded his first Champions League appearance in his second stint at Juve. After a similarly tame opening to the second half, Juve got their third in spectacular fashion! Paulo Dybala, who admitted to lacking confidence due to his inability to find the net so far this term, showed no signs of that as he wound up from around thirty-five yards and unleashed a left-footed "thunder bastard" (thanks to Ian Macintosh) which flew past Šemper in goal and rippled the net! It was La Joya's first goal of the season in any competition, and what a way to end his drought! With the three points all but secured, Allegri gave DZG old boys Pjaca and Mandzukic the chance to play in front of their old fans. The winger seemed particularly up for it, and almost scored after an inventive run and finish that was parried away by Šemper. The young goalkeeper's night went from bad to worse, as he failed to keep out a deflected Dani Alves free kick - effectively knocking the ball into his own net - giving Juventus their fourth goal of the night. So in the end, a dominating (if unspectacular) comprehensive win for the Bianconeri which - combined with Sevilla's 1-0 win over Lyon - put them top of Group H. LE PAGELLE Buffon 7 Literally did not have to make a save all game. Apart from the header onto the bar, was untroubled. Barzagli 8 Barza being Barza. Like Buffon, was largely untroubled. Bonucci 8 Bonucci being Bonucci. Like Buffon and Barza, was largely untroubled. Chiellini 8 Chiello being Chiello. Like Buffon, Barza and Bonucci, was largely untroubled. Dani Alves 8.5 The veteran Brazilian continues to look like he enjoys his free role. Regularly involved in the attack, and ably getting back to do his defensive duties. Had an assist and his deflected free kick led to the fourth goal. Khedira 6.5 After a bright start to the campaign, Sami Khedira seems to be slowing down a bit. Didn't have a bad game, but not a particularly good one either. Hernanes 7 A decent performance by Hernanes. Didn't really do anything special, but most importantly he didn't f*** up either, which at this point is probably the best we can hope for from the Brazilian. Pjanic 9 Tremendous performance by Mire. A goal and a brilliant assist from the midfielder, and all is just forty-five first half minutes. His knock shouldn't be anything serious - hopefully - so hoping for more of the same from the Bosnian. Evra 7 Not much to say about Evra's performance. He was decent, but would still much prefer to see Alex Sandro. Dybala 8.5 Yasssss! Dybala finally got his first goal of the season and it was a scorcher! Overall he was his usual busy self, dropping deep to get involved and linking with Dani Alves. Higuain complained of the two playing too far apart, something that will improve with time together. Let's hope this goal will see Dybala back to his old self. Higuain 8.5 Is it just me or does Higuain still look a bit chubby? Maybe it's this particular shirt that makes him look that way, but it just seems like he can still stand to lose some more LBs. Anyway, he took his goal brilliantly Subs Cuadrado 6 Came on at half time for Pjanic, but it was not a particularly noteworthy cameo. Pjaca 7 A bright cameo for Marko, almost scored soon after coming on - which would have been some impact. Mandzukic 6 Much like Cuadrado, did not have a particularly noteworthy cameo returning to his old stomping grounds. Coach Allegri 8 I guess given the dominant performance and scoreline, you have to give Max credit. Juventus were largely untroubled, Dinamo Zagreb had one chance and no shots on target. Juventus hadn't won by such a large margin in the Champions League since Nordsjælland in 2012 (also 4-0). But it should be noted that it was against Dinamo Zagreb, undoubtedly the weakest team in the group and arguably one of the weakest in the tournament. There is still a lot of improvements to be made. Higuain mentioned that he felt him and Dybala were playing too far apart (indeed, the two did not exchange a single pass). One would expect their understanding will improve with time. Alternatively, maybe introducing a trequartista to the system, so that Dybala doesn't have to always drop so deep, would help. It would also take some of that creative burden off of La Joya. All in all, you can't really complain about a commanding 4-0 win. So good job all around. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10?ICID=MP_TN_167 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Sep 30, 2016 Juventus Despite not putting out the greatest performances, Juventus first defeated Palermo and then dismantled Dinamo Zagreb. As for the Serie A game, the squad and the coach were clearly looking to save energies for the Champions League: it was a blah match, but any victory counts the same. In any case, we had enough chances, but squandered them, and we did not suffer in the back. The biggest positive from these last few bouts is that the defence appears to be back, with three clean sheets in a row. The Dinamo Zagreb game was a walk in the park, the Croatians had a very poor backline and did not pose any threat to Gianluigi Buffon. Paulo Dybala scored for the first time this season and it was a stunner: hopefully this will really get him going, even though I do not think that the lack of goals really hindered his offensive performances. If anything, having to track back a lot to get the ball and build up the action is what it is really slowing him down, but he has to do that to cover some deficiencies of the midfield. It is not much of an issue because we have another striker who can score all the goals. Speaking of the midfield, Miralem Pjanic had his best game yet, with a goal and a wonderful assist. The Hernanes reclamation project is progressing nicely and all the credit goes to Massimiliano Allegri who always shielded him from the criticism, even when it was rightful. I still do not quite trust him in big games, but I would give a kidney to avoid seeing Pjanic in front of the defence again and Hernanes being a viable deep-lying midfielder helps a lot for that purpose. Unfortunately, injuries keep piling up: Daniele Rugani will miss about 45 days with a LCL strain, while Kwadwo Asamoah has a torn meniscus. Medhi Benatia is expected to return after the upcoming break, therefore the defence has no other centre-backs available other than three starters. Of course Stephan Lichsteiner and Patrice Evra can play there in case of emergency and the four-man defence is an option. Andrea Barzagli should have recovered from his little injury. Miralem Pjanic was dinged up in the Dinamo Zagreb game and his presence on Sunday is in jeopardy but he is trending in the right direction. Massimiliano Allegri put Juan Cuadrado there on Wednesday since the game was already sealed. With Pjanic, the only doubt would be between Hernanes or Mario Lemina, while the most natural midfield without the Bosnian would Lemina on the right-hand, Hernanes in the heart and Sami Khedira on the left-hand. If everything goes well, Stefano Sturaro will play his first minutes of the season. Alex Sandro would probably be the best fit to serve as box-to-box midfielder if need be. We have the players to field a four-man midfield but I do not think the coach will go there. In any case, Sandro will start on the left, while either Dani Alves or Stephan Lichsteiner will play on the right: it is probably the Swiss train time. Gonzalo Higuain is the starter, but he could be spared in an easy game in favour of Mario Mandzukic. Probable lineup: 3-5-2: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Khedira, Lemina, Pjanic, Sandro; Higuain, Dybala. Injuries: Marchisio (knee), Benatia (hamstring), Rugani (knee), Asamoah (knee), Mandragora (foot). Suspensions: None. Empoli Empoli have struggled badly at the beginning of the season, but that is not a surprise. For two summers in a row, they have taken a toll in the summer, losing not only two good coaches but also a slew of excellent players. They had a slow start last year as well, then Marco Giampaolo struck gold putting Leandro Paredes as deep-lying playmaker and assembling a very quality midfielder. In the summer window, Giampaolo decided to not renew his contract, maybe hoping that he would be hired by Milan and then landed at Sampdoria, so they promoted the lead assistant Giovanni Martusciello, who also worked with Maurizio Sarri. They sold Lorenzo Tonelli and Mario Rui and the loanees Piotr Zielinski and Paredes returned to their respective clubs. So four starters are gone. Federico Barba returned from a failed stint at Stuttgart, but he has not really been healthy yet, and they added some interesting youngsters, but the defence and the midfield are still under construction. Curiously though, the attack has been the biggest disappointment: they have added Alberto Gilardino, who will inherit Roberto Maccarone’s spot, but so far they have scored only two goals, against Crotone. Riccardo Saponara has not been himself this season, maybe he is a little bummed that he did not get to transfer in the summer, and they have very little going on upfront if the no.10 does not feed them. They will be a little depleted in this one, especially in the defence: Vincent Laurini is out with a calf problem, Andrea Costa has a sore ankle and Barba is expected to be sidelined as well. The veteran Riccardo Zambelli will fill in at right-back, with Uros Cosic in the middle. Giuseppe Bellusci is banged up but should play, otherwise Frederic Veseli will make his debut with the club. They have some options in the midfield, but the feeling is that they have not found the right combination yet. José Mauri has been brought in at the last minute when they realized that they could not spend the whole season with Assane Diousse and Riccardo Maiello in front of the defence. He has a bruised thigh, but should be able to go. They have been using Andres Tello and Daniele Croce as box-to-box midfielders, but really any mix between them, Rade Krunic and Marcel Buchel could be the right one. They still have the same infrastructure of the previous years, a diamond formation, but so far they have not had the same offensive punch, nor same exciting style. At the end of the day, if they can not control the ball, their defence is just not that good, even when fully healthy. Of course they will be desperate for points and they will play with a lot of enthusiasm in front of a sold-out crowd, but right now they are not in good condition. Probable lineup: 4-3-1-2: Skorupski; Zambelli, Bellusci, Cosic, Pasqual; Tello, Mauri, Croce; Saponara; Maccarone, Pucciarelli. Injuries: Laurini (calf), Costa (ankle), Barba. Suspensions: None. The Old Lady were demoted to Serie B for their involvement in the Calciopoli scandal ten years ago but bounced back to Serie A at the first attempt, then gradually re-asserted their dominance in Italian football. Despite racking up the trophies at home, however, the Turin club have failed to translate this into European success. This is something that the former full-back believes must change soon. “Winning the Champions League is difficult, it depends on a lot of different factors,” Pessotto, who retired just weeks before the controversy of 2006, told Calciomercato. “It is pointless to hide that it’s an important objective. The club deserves it, it would be a great reward for the work done since 2006. “It would be a just reward. The team is strong, let’s hope they can give us this great satisfaction.” Pessotto, who won Europe’s premier club competition with Juve in 1996, then praised new signing Gonzalo Higuain as one of the world’s best forwards. “I am very happy that he is at Juve, he is one of the best five or six forwards in the world. “It shows that Juve have great appeal again. Trezeguet was maybe the highest-profile player to have arrived at Juventus, even more so than Zinedine Zidane.” Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti
