Jan 23, 2016 Luciano Spalletti says Roma will be back in the race for the Serie A title if they beat Juventus on Sunday, but feels defeat could see them ruled out. The Stadio Olimpico side sit fifth in the table heading into Sunday's match, seven points behind the second-placed champions and nine back from leaders Napoli. While Massimiliano Allegri's men believes Roma remain in with a chance of claiming the Scudetto, Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon claimed that a win for the reigning champions would end the Giallorossi's title hopes. Spalletti though is keen to see his team state their Scudetto credentials by upsetting the Bianconeri. "It was an intelligent thing to say from Buffon, he's a smart guy," Spalletti told a news conference. "We see it the same way he does. This is the opportunity for us to get back in the mix for the top spots. "Juventus have done very well, especially this season. As for ourselves, if we go there believing we can win we'll probably be able to do it. But if we play thinking we can't then we'll never get the three points. "Our approach is the same as always, to exploit our potential and our quality and create space for us to play in. "We'll look to take the game to them and give it our best shot against a team we know are enjoying a great run of form and have shown they're a great side. "That situation is not going to change unless the other team is very good as well, and by that I mean everyone around us here, starting with the club itself." Spalletti returned to Roma for his second spell in charge this month following Rudi Garcia's sacking. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Jan 24, 2016 The Bianconeri cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win away at Udinese last week to bring their winning run into double figures, and are currently two points behind the leaders Napoli who take on Sampdoria. Massimiliano Allegri’s men have 42 points after matchweek 20 and are unbeaten in their last eight home games, winning six and drawing the other two.AS Roma, under new coach Luciano Spalletii, could only manage a 1-1 draw against bottom of the table Hellas Verona last Sunday. Roma lie fifth in the table with 35 points, nine behind leaders Napoli and most importantly five points off third-place Inter Milan in the last Champions League spot. Roma have failed to win any of their last four away games, but one of those was a creditable 0-0 draw with Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo in December.Massimiliano Allegri v Luciano SpallettiLuciano Spalletti and Massimiliano Allegri have faced each other thrice during the period of 2008-2010 when Spalletti was Roma’s manager and Allegri represented Cagliari. Spalletti leads the head-to-head battle thanks to a 3-2 win in December, 2008. However, his record against Juventus is woeful to say the least.Over the last 12 years, Spalletti has never beaten Juventus. In fact, he’s only managed three points in his last 17 Serie A games against the Bianconeri, recording a worrying 14 defeats. Back in August 2009, Spalletti had confidently announced he would end his hoodoo against Juve but instead lost 3-1. He resigned shortly after the loss. The two sides have already met this campaign with Roma running out 2-1 victors in Rome in gameweek two, thanks to goals from Miralem Pjanic and Edin Dzeko.Allegri might use the long-ball tactic againJuventus’ win over Lazio on Wednesday threw up an interesting scenario. Lazio enjoyed 57 percent possession of the ball while they also out-passed Juventus. Stefano Pioli’s men had a set plan to isolate Claudio Marchisio, who usually has the role to link the midfield and strikers. This same plan might be used by Spalletti too who is likely to field French midfielder William Vainqueur to keep an eye on the Italian international. When the supply line to the attackers is cut off, Allegri has opted for a more direct approach. Both Simone Zaza and Mario Mandzukic have admirably lead the line, holding up the ball and playing a vital role in bringing Dybala and the midfielders into the game. If the buildup through midfield is blocked, then route one football has been used with the target-man playing a vital role. This helps Juventus successfully bypass the opponent press in midfield and put direct pressure on the defence. Both the strikers have the attributes to become the focal point in attack with great physical presence which helps them to shield the ball with their back turned to goal.If possession cant be safeguarded in midfield then Allegri will not hesitate to take this approach. Paul Pogba also benefits from this movement as he gets involved more thanks to the target-man bringing the midfield runners into play.Spalletti has to fix the defence for this crunch gameLuciano Spalletti failed to make an immediate impact after his return to Roma but things are expected to improve as the season progresses. The players have already claimed that they have done more tactical work under Spalletti in one week compared to Rudi Garcia’s three seasons. Roma have some pressing concerns and Spalletti has wasted little time in tackling them. The first thing which needs to be addressed is the defensive shape of the team which has left Roma exposed many times this season. The Roma coach has been working on the defensive lines and some improvements were noticed in the game against Hellas. Castan’s clumsy challenge resulted in a penalty but the organization which was missing for the last few games was visible.Spalletti has claimed he is working on improving the collective movement of his backline, improving the positioning and also winning second balls efficiently. Roma will be lining up with three at the back with Daniele De Rossi playing in defence – a formation previously used by the present Barcelona coach Luis Enrique. It will be a big challenge to get the best out of struggling Edin Dzeko. The training movements have been centred around getting as much service for the Bosnian who has really struggled to get going after coming to Italy. The new coach is looking to get as much service to him so that Dzeko can build up his confidence.Key BattlesStephan Lichtsteiner v Mohamed SalahThe Egyptian winger scored a brace in the Juventus stadium this year for Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia semifinal last season. Roma will be looking for more of the same tonight as they look to stop their opponent’s 10 match winning run. Salah sounded confident ahead of the game as he predicted a 2-1 win for Roma, although he did admit it will be the toughest game of the season so far for them.Stephan Lichtsteiner scored the winner midweek against his former side Lazio and will be up against Salah in a battle which will go a long way to deciding the outcome of this game. The Swiss captain has returned to his brilliant best after his heart surgery and will be looking to score a double in the space of one week against the Roman clubs.Radja Nainggolan v Sami KhediraRadja Nainggolan has been used in a new central attacking midfield role in Spalletti’s formation and he immediately made the most of his new position by scoring the opener against Hellas Verona last weekend. The game against Juventus is never a normal one for the Belgian as he had been involved in some verbal duels with the Bianconeri fans in the past.Radja himself had posted some provocative messages earlier this season and he will no doubt get a fiery reception tomorrow at the Juventus stadium. The player has insisted that winning one trophy with Roma would be better than earning 10 with Juve, and he will look to channel his passion onto the pitch for this Sunday night’s thrilling encounter at the Juventus Stadium. It is clear to see that Juventus in Sami Khedira have a quality operator on their hands who is capable of filling the vacuum left by the likes of Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal. Whenever Khedira has been on the pitch, Juventus have never lost. He has played 762 minutes between Serie A, the Coppa Italia and Champions League this season, registering 10 games, and come out on the winning side in eight of them, while the other two have ended in draws. If only Serie A action is taken into account, of the 21 points on offer to Khedira when he has been out on the pitch, the former Stuttgart man has helped the Old Lady pick up 19. He wasn’t available for defeats on the road against Roma and Napoli, nor for home slip-ups against Udinese, Chievo and Frosinone, while he also missed the trip to the Mapei Stadium due to Allegri not wanting to rush him back. The same goes for the defeat in Seville. In total, three separate injuries have hampered him and it was during these periods when the club stuttered. Thankfully for the 28-year-old, he now looks to be over the worst of his problems. He has played the last three games, all of which have ended in victories for Juventus, and he is set to form a formidable midfield alongside Paul Pogba and Claudio Marchisio.Paulo Dybala v Daniele De RossiDaniele De Rossi started as a central defender in the first match this season against Juventus and he will do so again — this time in a 3-man back line. Luciano Spalletti claimed that he had a discussion with De Rossi after his appointment as the manager and he was given the green light to try something new.It now appears that he has agreed to play as a central defender for the rest of the season. This role is not new to him as he was previously used here by former manager Luis Enrique and also by ex-Italy manager Cesare Prandelli. But he might have a tough evening as he comes up against red hot Argentine Paulo Dybala, who quite simply has been the best player in the league after Gonzalo Higuain.De Rossi would have wished for a different game to start his new role for Spalletti’s Roma, but given his warrior like attitude on the field, this duel promises to be an enthralling prospect.Juventus strengths and weaknessesJuventus have won their last 10 league games and are on a roll. Momentum is with them and it will be hard for Roma to stop them. All the strikers are working well for the system while Dybala and Khedira have been in top form.A new manager usually brings new enthusiasm so Juventus will have to be careful against a determined Roma side.AS Roma strengths and weaknessesRoma have won only two of their last 10 games and are really struggling in all departments.Edin Dzeko has only scored one goal from open play this season which was against Juventus. He desperately needs to start scoring again.Moving to a back three against such a formidable opposition might backfire but the players seem ready to trust Spalletti for the game tonight. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Jan 24, 2016 At the end of October, Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri was a man under serious pressure - just over four months after winning a domestic double. The Italian champions were 12th in the Serie A standings, having amassed just 12 points from 10 games - their lowest return since the 1987-88 season. Bianconeri president Andrea Agnelli publicly expressed his concern before a meeting of the club's shareholders. "We knew the process of renewing the squad could create some problems, but it's not a justification for our current place in the table." It was a subtle but significant statement, a clear message to Allegri that results needed to improve - and fast. The former AC Milan coach wisely concurred that there were no excuses for the Scudetto holders' poor start. "I agree with the president: Juventus should not be in this position... Around March, we must be in and around the front-runners." Some wondered if Allegri would even still be in a job by March. However, we've not yet reached the end of January and Juve are already back in the title race. Going into Sunday's clash with Roma, they sit second in the table, just two points behind leaders Napoli. It has been a remarkable transformation. Admittedly, nobody felt that the Bianconeri would not belatedly bounce back; it was more that few expected it to happen so quickly, given just how poorly they had begun their bid for a fifth successive league title. It is worth remembering that Juve had lost their opening two games in Serie A for the first time ever. Their loss at Sassuolo on October 28 meant that they had lost four of their opening 10 fixtures. The Old Lady had played for 50 minutes with just 10 men in Reggio Emilia, due to Giorgio Chiellini's first-half dismissal, but captain Gianluigi Buffon had no intention of lashing out at the referee after the game. He knew exactly where the blame lay. "It's very simple, if you don't win any of your 50-50s or aerial battles and you can't string together three passes, then that's no recipe for success," the Italian goalkeeping icon fumed. It is undeniably true that Juve's players, for the most part, underperformed during the opening months of the season. But it is worth noting that Allegri's men were not playing as badly as the results suggested. There was an element of misfortune about their position. For example, in five of their opening 10 games, they conceded from the opposition's first shot on target. "We are in crisis in terms of results but not in terms of performances," Allegri argued at the height of Juve's Serie A struggles. He had a point. However, the Bianconeri clearly had some issues to resolve: they were struggling to score goals, making an unusually high amount of unforced errors in defence and Paul Pogba looked lost in midfield. There were mitigating circumstances, though. Last summer, Juve went under a dramatic overhaul in terms of their playing staff and the key losses were Arturo Vidal, Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tevez. The departures of Vidal and Pirlo, coupled with Claudio Marchisio's injury problems, meant that Juve started their campaign with just one member of the midfield that carried the Old Lady to the final of last season's Champions League: Pogba. Being bestowed with the prestigious No.10 jersey appeared to weigh heavily on the Frenchman's shoulders but the 22-year-old appeared more burdened with what he perceived as his responsibility to fill all of the voids left by sales and injuries. "He must put his ideas in place and be calm once again and live and play like a 22-year-old individual because it is right and normal to do so," Allegri reasoned. "Too much responsibility has been placed on his shoulders, so much that a normal 22-year-old would struggle to cope. "Nobody is asking Pogba to score three goals per game or to win games single-handedly. We just ask Paul to play as he knows how to, a bit more carefree, and make the mistakes a normal 22-year-old makes. That's it. It is easy to understand." It took slightly longer to remedy, but Pogba is now back playing at something approaching his best. For that, both the player and his coach deserve credit. However, the presence of Marchisio and Sami Khedira alongside him has also been key. Khedira, like Marchisio, missed the start of the season through injury - unsurprisingly, given his fitness problems at former club Real Madrid - but he has performed immaculately since his return. It is no coincidence that Juve have never lost with the Germany international in their starting line-up. As for Tevez, his romantic return to first love Boca Juniors deprived Juve of their most prolific and inspirational attacker. The Argentine hadn't exactly carried Juve's attack over the previous two seasons, as he'd been ably supported by Fernando Llorente and Alvaro Morata at various intervals, but he had at least been its driving force. Close to €70m had been spent on striking reinforcements but Mario Mandzukic and Simone Zaza initially struggled to prove their worth, while Allegri seemed strangely reluctant to put his faith in the precociously talented 22-year-old Paulo Dybala. Things have changed, though. Mandzukic is looking increasingly more like his old self, Zaza's form has improved to such an extent that Juve have no decided against selling him in January, while Dybala has been nothing short of a revelation since garnering Allegri's full trust, racking up 11 goals and 7 assists in 19 Serie A appearances. Furthermore, from a defensive perspective, Juve's solidity has been restored, thanks in no small part to Allegri's decision to revert to a 3-5-2 formation - and stick with it (they played four different formations alone in their first 10 matches). They have kept nine clean sheets in their last 12 outings in all competitions, which has played a key role in their run of 10 consecutive league victories. Whereas Agnelli previously felt the results weren't good enough, now they speak for themselves. "We missed many things in the first half of the season," Allegri mused during week, "but I was not worried because we changed so much over the summer. A period of adjustment was only to be expected. But we still have a lot of work to do and can improve further." That is a very ominous prospect for Napoli - and the rest of Serie A. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

The 30-year-old also believes that a great team spirit at Juve has served the club well as all are ready to make sacrifices for the good of the team. “We’ve won the Scudetto for four years in a row and we want to keep on doing that,” said Marchisio to Sky Sport Italia. “We know that years pass by quickly and we don’t want to have any regrets in life. “This team can still improve a lot and we’ve seen that with the players who arrived in the summer, they’re showing the players who have been here for a long time what we can all do. “This doesn’t mean that only young players or new signings can help the team, but the players who have been for many years can also help us to improve. “You always have to find motivation to work hard and give your all if you want to stay here and wear the shirt.” The Italy international spoke further about the club’s spirit and the players who he feels are most indicative of it. “Whoever comes into this great club can see the spirit not just in the players and stuff but everybody who works for the club,” Marchisio went on. “There is always a lot of ambition and a will to make sacrifices. “I can only speak about who I knew but Alessandro Del Piero and Gianluigi Buffon best represented it for me. “I have a wonderful friendship with Del Piero which I can only thank him for. After a poor start to their quest for a fifth successive Scudetto, a resurgent Juve have roared back into the title race with an impressive run of form that has helped them ascend to second place in the table. Having seen Napoli extend their advantage at the summit to five points with a 4-2 win at Sampdoria earlier in the day, the pressure was on the champions to respond at Juventus Stadium. For long periods, it looked as though they would be frustrated by a stubborn Roma outfit in Luciano Spalletti's second game back in charge. But Dybala continued his own personal purple patch with a clinical finish in the 77th minute from Paul Pogba's cute pass - an eighth goal in the last 10 league outings for the Argentine. Victory means Juve keep pace with Napoli and sit two points behind them again, while Roma remain fifth, having won just one of their previous nine league games. There had been seven red cards in the last five meetings between these two sides, and an early off-the-ball tangle between Daniele De Rossi and Mario Mandzukic set the tone for a fractious opening, with the Roma man perhaps fortunate not to see red for standing on his opponent's foot. De Rossi was cautioned for the incident and Dybala sent the subsequent 20-yard free-kick straight at Wojciech Szczesny. Midway through the half, Patrice Evra sliced wildly at two efforts in quick succession before Pogba - sporting an eye-catching leopard-print pattern in his hair - headed over from eight yards as Juve dominated. Roma grew into the game as the half wore on, and Alessandro Florenzi wasted an excellent opening in the 37th minute when he swung wildly at an effort from inside the box which flew high and wide. The home side felt they should have had a penalty three minutes later when a dropping ball struck Miralem Pjanic on the arm, but the referee awarded Roma a free-kick for a separate infringement. The first notable effort of the second period did not arrive until the 68th minute, as substitute Juan Cuadrado brought a save out of Szczesny low to the goalkeeper's right. A minute later, Szczesny was tasked with a much more difficult save as he spread himself to parry Evra's thunderous effort from a tight angle. But the Poland goalkeeper could do nothing about the winner 13 minutes from time as Pogba slipped a pass into the path of Dybala, who finished left-footed beyond Szczesny and into the bottom-right corner to extend Juve's stunning sequence of form. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Roma moved to three at the back, but Douglas Maicon and transfer-listed Gervinho missed out.The Lupi hadn’t won here for precisely six years and one day, since a 2-1 result on January 23 2010, managing a draw and three consecutive defeats.Daniele De Rossi got an early booking for an off the ball clash with Mario Mandzukic, while Paulo Dybala and Alessandro Florenzi had long-range attempts straight at the goalkeepers. Dybala hit the bar with a delightful control and lob, but only after being flagged offside.Patrice Evra had a volley charged down and on the rebound Paul Pogba just failed to get the final touch. Florenzi also did just enough to put Pogba off on a header, then at the other end completely scuffed his volley at the back post.Miralem Pjanic handled in the box, but Juve’s penalty appeals were void because the referee had already stopped play for a push on De Rossi. On the stroke of half-time, Dybala’s attempt was too weak to trouble Wojciech Szczesny. It was more even after the break, as Roma did try to attack, but Mandzukic was booked for lashing out an arm on Antonio Rudiger.Radja Nainggolan’s control and volley was deflected just over the bar by Pogba and substitute Juan Guillermo Cuadrado tested Szczesny low at the near post.On 69 minutes Pogba flicked on a Cuadrado cross with his heel, Mandzukic spread it to the left and Evra’s fierce strike was beaten away from point-blank range by Szczesny’s ribs. The breakthrough arrived when Pogba waited for the right moment to send a through ball, Dybala sprung the offside trap to control with the inside of the left boot and steer a snooker shot past Szczesny into the far bottom corner.Dzeko had the ball in the net, but only after play had been stopped for his nudge on Andrea Barzagli.A Miralem Pjanic free kick was deflected to skim the crossbar after a series of shots were charged down, as Roma started to lay siege on the Juve goal.Juventus: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner (Cuadrado 66), Khedira, Marchisio, Pogba, Evra; Dybala (Morata 84), MandzukicRoma: Szczesny; Manolas, De Rossi, Rudiger; Florenzi (Torosidis 93), Pjanic, Vainqueur (Keita 71), Digne; Nainggolan; Salah (Sadiq 90), DzekoRef: Banti http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Jan 24, 2016 Juventus made it 11 wins on the trot in Serie A with a 1-0 victory over Roma at the Juventus Stadium on Sunday night. The breakthrough took a while to come to fruition with neither side able to capitalise on their chances, but Paulo Dybala showed his quality once more in the latter part of the game with a wonderful finish to claim all three points. Patrice Evra should have opened the scoring on 22 minutes when his volley went a bit wayward and was blocked by the defence before his second attempt also went off target, although Paul Pogba was in the perfect position to guide it in, but it remained goalless. It took 36 minutes for Roma to get their first real chance of the game with a good cross that eventually dropped to Alessandro Florenzi but he poorly slashed his effort wide. Evra really should have got the first goal of the match just before the 70 minute mark when a brilliant team move ended with his shot being fired towards goal but Szczesny managed to make a great save and block it at his near post. Once again, though, Dybala proved to be the star man for the Bianconeri with a quality finish 15 minutes from the end as he took hold of a Pogba through ball and slotted it into the back of the net from a fairly tight angle. Edin Dzeko had the ball in the back of the net for Roma a few minutes later but the referee disallowed the goal due to a previous foul. As a result, Massimiliano Allegri’s men claimed victory and have cut the gap between them and top-of-the-table Napoli to just two points, while Roma are moving further away from the title race as they now sit in fifth place, six points behind fourth. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Jan 24, 2016 Paul Pogba warned Juventus “are nobody and achieved nothing” after beating Roma for an 11th consecutive Serie A victory. “It was a very difficult match, we tried and tried, then changing the level of our play we scored a very important goal for the win,” Pogba told Mediaset Premium. He provided the assist for Paulo Dybala in this late 1-0 result, so now Juve are four points clear of Inter and Fiorentina in third, just two off leaders Napoli. “Let’s not forget that at the start of the season people said we were Serie B players, that we couldn’t play football. “Now we are doing much better, but we are still nobody, we’ve achieved nothing, we are not top of the table and therefore we must continue like this. “We’ll take it one game at a time.” Pogba was also asked about his new leopard-print hairstyle. “You know I like to do these things, they’re fun.” http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti
Socrates 8524 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 134613 messaggi Inviato January 25, 2016 JUVENTUS - ROMA 1 - 0 Paulo Dybala (77') MATCHDAY 21 Sunday, January 24th, 2016 - 8:45 PM Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee: Luca Banti Paulo Dybala scores as Juventus top Roma for 11th straight Serie A win http://www.espnfc.co.uk/italian-serie-a/match/432066/juventus-as-roma/report Jan 24, 2016 Paulo Dybala unlocked a tense encounter with Roma in Turin to fire Juventus within two points of Serie A leaders Napoli. Massimiliano Allegri's reigning champions raced into Scudetto contention after registering a 10th straight victory last time out but they found win number 11 -- a rare 1-0 triumph -- harder to come by. Resilient Roma, who are harder to beat under returning coach Luciano Spalletti, only let their guard down once, with Dybala scoring past Wojciech Szczesny in the 77th minute at Juventus Stadium. The Bianconeri now have free-scoring Napoli, who were 4-2 winners at Sampdoria earlier on Sunday, in their sights with a showdown between the title rivals scheduled for February 13. Roma are among the division's most lethal goalscorers but have come undone on multiple occasions due to a leaky back line. With that in mind, Spalletti shuffled his pack to place emphasis on defence, with regular playmaker Miralem Pjanic asked to drop deeper and cover the rearguard. Juve would dominate possession during the first half but found themselves limited to speculative attempts thanks to Roma's new formation. Szczesny gathered Dybala's early free-kick without difficulty and Gianluigi Buffon was equally comfortable in the home goal when Alessandro Florenzi came knocking. Dybala would have scored a special goal in the 19th minute had his delicious lob dipped enough to fool Szczesny, but it kissed the crossbar and he was flagged for offside. Paul Pogba -- with leopard print dyed into his shaved hair -- put power behind his attempt to drive Sami Khedira's cross home, the Frenchman instead shooting over. With Roma seemingly in retreat just before the break, Szczesny found Dybala's fizzing drive easy to handle -- it was time for both sides to rethink their respective approaches. The new ideas took a while to settle in but those transmitted by Spalletti clearly carried more weight as Roma came very close to scoring in the 64th minute. Giorgio Chiellini's pass out of defence was too short and Lucas Digne took advantage to set up Radja Nainggolan, whose blast was on target only for a deflection to steer it over the bar. Allegri's response was to introduce Juan Cuadrado and the on-loan Chelsea winger sent Szczesny sprawling with a 25-yard shot within minutes of his arrival. Patrice Evra soon repeated the trick from the left side and Szczesny did well to keep his sheet clean. The Bianconeri scented blood and, shortly after Pogba rasped the ball past the far post, Dybala made an overdue breakthrough. Pogba pulled the strings, reeling Florenzi in before supplying Dybala with a cute pass that the former Palermo striker tucked underneath the onrushing Szczesny. Roma were visibly deflated and the look on Edin Dzeko's face when he had a late goal ruled out for a foul on Andrea Barzagli told its own story. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Jan 24, 2016 Juventus kept pace with Serie A leaders Napoli on Sunday following a 1-0 home victory over Roma in Matchday 21.Paulo Dybala scored the only goal of the match, finding the back of the net in the 77th minute.Juventus were having a hard time breaking down the Roma defence for much of the match. Two of their most dynamic playmakers came to the rescue as midfielder Paul Pogba delivered a pass into the box to the feet of Dybala. The 22-year-old forward then beat Roma goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny at the far post. The result was more than deserved for Juventus, who were the better side on the pitch. Roma were far from abject, but they're still finding their footing under new manager Luciano Spalletti. Spalletti only took over on Jan. 14, so he's still experimenting with his side somewhat to see what works and what doesn't. And a match against the reigning Serie A champions isn't exactly the most optimal of testing grounds.Entering Sunday, Roma ranked fourth in Serie A in average possession (56.4 percent), per WhoScored.com. Emphasizing possession against Juve would've been a recipe for disaster—a point Spalletti clearly understood as he put together his lineup and tactical plan.He spoke about how he wants to be more proactive with his tactics but knows adjustments are necessary against certain opponents, per Goal's Stefan Coerts:Our approach is the same as always, to exploit our potential and our quality and create space for us to play in. We'll look to take the game to them and give it our best shot against a team we know are enjoying a great run of form and have shown they're a great side. That situation is not going to change unless the other team is very good as well, and by that I mean everyone around us here, starting with the club itself.Spalletti opted for a counter-attacking style, using Daniele De Rossi, Kostas Manolas and Antonio Rudiger at centre-back in a 3-4-1-2 formation. The strategy proved successful through the first half. Juventus enjoyed the lion's share of possession but registered just three shots on target. Szczesny didn't have a lot to do, as his defenders repelled most of Juve's attacks before they could get too deep into the final third.Roma did get a bit lucky in the 39th minute as midfielder Miralem Pjanic handled the ball in the box, which soccer analytics expert Michael Caley argued was intentional:Michael Caley @MC_of_AOh man Pjanic knew what he was doing. Prevented a nice little half-chance for Dybala with a handball that looked accidental in real time. The official missed the handball, which would've otherwise resulted in a penalty for Juventus. Not only were Juve denied the penalty, but Pjanic ruined any other chances they could've created in the 18-yard box.Juventus supporters will also take umbrage with the referee's decision to give De Rossi a yellow card in the ninth minute. As the two were standing off the ball, De Rossi appeared to get a subtle strike into Mario Mandzukic's lower back before stamping on the left foot of the Juve forward.Mandzukic then earned himself a yellow card in the 50th minute for putting an elbow into the neck of Rudiger. A card was warranted, but the Croatian striker disagreed, per Bleacher Report's Adam Digby:Adam Digby @Adz77.@MarioMandzukic9 actually laughed at the referee on that decision to book him. Good to see him in such a jovial mood....With this being such a big match, emotions were running high for both sides. BeIN Sports' Matteo Bonetti assumed the powder keg was bound to blow eventually:Matteo Bonetti ✔ @TheCalcioGuyRight, red card for <insert Manolas, Mandzukic, De Rossi> here. It's coming. It has to.Tempers calmed down following the half-time interval. The match itself remained the same into the second half as Juventus probed the Roma defense, looking for the tiniest of windows with which to create an effort on goal.Juve left wing-back Patric Evra nearly gave his team a 1-0 lead in the 69th minute. Standing to the left of goal in the 18-yard box, he had a tough angle to beat Szczesny, and the Frenchman fired his shot right at the Polish 'keeper, who made the save.It looked like that was going to be Juventus' best chance of the match before Dybala broke the deadlock. WhoScored.com noted how integral the Argentine striker has been for his club of late:WhoScored.com ✔ @WhoScoredPaulo Dybala: Has now either scored (4) or assisted (4) 8 of Juventus' last 10 goals in Serie AJuve manager Massimiliano Allegri might be somewhat critical of his team's work in the final third. In general, he'll have little else to complain about, as the club won their 11th straight league match. United States women's national team member Yael Averbuch argued the patience exerted by Juventus earlier in the season is paying off in a big way:Yael Averbuch ✔ @Yael_AverbuchJuve is a great case study for how to turn a season around. No panic, just consistently chipped away at their vision for the team/clubJuventus get Inter Milan next, with Inter looking to rebound following Sunday's draw with Carpi. They'll have a chance to close the gap on Napoli when the two sides clash on Feb. 13, and 10 days later is their highly anticipated Champions League fixture with Bayern Munich. The road gets a bit easier for Spalletti as he looks to leave his imprint on the Roma squad. The club have matches against Frosinone, Sassuolo, Sampdoria and Carpi before facing off with Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16.Post-Match Reaction"Certain games require a touch of class to break the deadlock," said Allegri after the match, per Juventus' official Twitter feed. "It wasn’t an easy match for us tonight."The manager also wanted to make sure his players aren't riding the high from Sunday's win for too long."We’ve got lots of fixtures on the horizon," Allegri said, per the club. "We need to stay level-headed."For obvious reasons, Allegri's opposite number was a little discouraged after failing to score a goal. Spalletti was a bit critical of his team's lack of adventure."We had a good game in terms of organization, because we allowed Juve very little, but the truth is we weren't daring enough, either," Spalletti told Mediaset Premium (h/t Football Italia). "We have to do more because otherwise against an opponent like this it becomes difficult to get a breakthrough."Roma should become a more fluid side the longer Spalletti is the manager. It's only natural a club, especially one that struggled so much under Rudi Garcia, experiences a few growing pains under a new manager. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Jan 24, 2016 Luciano Spalletti said Roma were “not daring enough” in their 1-0 defeat to Juventus. “I expected more tonight.” Paulo Dybala scored with a late moment of magic on Paul Pogba’s through ball, in a game with few genuine scoring opportunities. “We had a good game in terms of organisation, because we allowed Juve very little, but the truth is we weren’t daring enough either,” Spalletti told Mediaset Premium. “We have to do more because otherwise against an opponent like this it becomes difficult to get a breakthrough. “We could’ve done better to keep the team tight and go on the counter. Obviously when morale is low, your legs don’t go well either. “We should’ve stopped going so deep and done more with the ball. We need to do a little more in every area, really. “The psychological aspect becomes fundamental, above all at a club like ours. If things go well, you have the enthusiasm and support of the fans, but if it’s a negative moment then you are brought further down by everything that goes on around us. “We need to win more duels, have courage to push defenders into the opposition half and recover ground when we lost the ball. On the goal, for example, there was a hole at the back. “We did some things well, but not enough. We quickly need to raise our game, our determination, our self-confidence, our courage and all these qualities.” Roma are now 12 points off leaders Napoli, so surely this is the end for Scudetto hopes? “I do not look at the table and therefore do not think about it. What I want is to rediscover the psychological form to win games. I expected more tonight. “This was an important match, but we have just started work that will last five months. No result will change the effort and sacrifices we need to put in over the next five months.” Gervinho is in negotiations for a transfer to Jiangsu Suning, so Spalletti was asked about strategy. “We want a central defender and one or two players in attack, depending on who leaves. I want players who can take men on, have quality and can create important moves.” http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Jan 24, 2016 Max Allegri had praise and criticism for Paulo Dybala after a 1-0 win over Roma. “Juventus must have balance.” Dybala scored the decisive strike late on for Juve’s 11th consecutive Serie A victory. “It was a difficult game because Roma closed us down,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia. “We did well in the opening 20 minutes, but Dybala and Mario Mandzukic weren’t finishing off the service. Dybala kept going too wide on the right in the first half and wasn’t finding the spaces. “Of course at the end he did score an extraordinary goal. It’s not easy to get 11 consecutive victories in Serie A, especially after we used up a lot of energy against Lazio in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday.” Juve had such a disastrous start to the campaign, but are now two points off leaders Napoli and four clear of third-placed Inter and Fiorentina. “The club evaluated the situation, changed a lot of players over the summer and brought in youngsters, so it needed a bit of patience. In the same way, we need balance during this moment of 11 straight wins. “Napoli are doing exceptionally well, we must try to do even better to catch and leapfrog them.” It took a long time to break Roma down in a game with few scoring opportunities. “Roma were defending in a very organised manner. In the opening 20 minutes we didn’t make the most of our quality, then when Radja Nainggolan moved on to Claudio Marchisio’s shoulders, our avenues were blocked. “We had about 80 per cent of our attacking moves down the right and we didn’t move it around enough. “I am sad to leave many players on the bench, including Simone Zaza, Alex Sandro and Stefano Sturaro. If we are to go all the way in three competitions, we need everyone. “The important thing is to maintain this physical and psychological condition.” Paul Pogba unveiled a new leopard-print hairstyle. Is it something Allegri would like to copy? “I don’t have enough hair for that. These lads have seven or eight hairdressers who come and go. It’s not like in my day…” Allegri was asked about rumours he is first choice to take over at Chelsea next season. “Do I speak English? Yes, a little.” http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Almost everything they did was done well beforehand, then they got around the 18-yard box and it suddenly like they were on a different page. That's not something we had seen much of during Juve's 10-game Serie A winning streak. Then, just when it looked like a couple of points might be dropped in frustrating fashion, it all clicked. From one of the field to the other in 13 seconds Juventus went. And the result was something we've seen so many times over the past three or four months — Paulo Dybala racing to a corner of the field to celebrate a goal he just scored. It erased all of the previous difficulty in the final third from the previous 77 or so minutes. Just like that, Juventus went from 'attack, attack, attack' to defending a lead with everything they had.I guess this sentence that I typed a minute or two before Dybala scored his goal isn't exactly applicable anymore. Now we have to refer to it as an "11-game unbeaten streak" instead of "an 11-game winning streak." That just doesn't have the same kind of ring to it.We can thank Dybala for that. But think about what went into the goal, too. The tackle Patrice Evra made to win the ball back was one of the most memorable things I will take out of this game. The forward runs by both Paul Pogba and Sami Khedira were crucial. Pogba's Steve Nash-like no-look pass to Dybala for the assist will have a million views on Vine come tomorrow morning. It was just a beautiful team goal at the moment Juventus needed it.The winning streak is still there. It was stressful — probably because Juve's finishing was lacking more than Roma doing anything of real danger in front of goal. But Juventus have now gotten a little bit of payback — or as was the case on Sunday, a lot of it — against the team two clubs that beat them to open the 2015-16 season. Juve looked in disarray back then. They don't now.And thanks to their 22-year-old boy wonder from Argentina who looks like he should still be a freshman in high school, the wins just keep on coming. The times are good right now, and let's hope they only continue to be that way.JuventusFC ✔ @juventusfcen.@OfficialAllegri: "Certain games require a touch of class to break the deadlock. It wasn’t an easy match for us tonight." Amen to that, Max. Amen to that.Random thoughts and observationsW-W-W-W-W-W-W-W-W-W-W. That's pretty.Roma had one shot on goal. When you play for a draw, you ain't gonna attack that much. And Roma certainly didn't even come close to attacking all that much.Paulo Dybala with Palermo last season: 13 goals, 10 assists.Paulo Dybala with Juventus this season (Serie A only): 12 goals, 7 assists. He probably won't play in all of the remaining 17 league games this season if Juve continue to compete on multiple fronts entering March and April, but Dybala is on pace to destroy the numbers he put up last season. And they said last season was the breakout year for Dybala. So what does it make this one?I said it on Twitter toward the very end of the first half, but I'll say it here, too: Dybala has reached the point where you just sit up in your seat and pay attention just a little bit more than you were whenever he's on the ball around the penalty area. It's truly remarkable what he's doing when you consider his age, this being his first season at Juventus and all the expectations that were put on his little shoulders when he first signed with the club over the summer. He's lived up to those, and surpassed them at this point. He's a truly special player who I hope will be around for a long, long time to come.Dybala is such a gosh darn hit in Turin he now has middle-aged women dabbing.Patrice Evra was an absolute monster in the second half. He also nearly killed Wojciech Szczesny with that close-range shot a few minutes before Dybala scored the eventual game-winner.Claudio Marchisio against Roma: Five tackles, four interceptions, 95 percent pass completion. The guy is pretty good, you know. Just thought I would throw that out there. How the hell was Daniele De Rossi not sent off before full time was called for? I mean, I know I'll sound like a total Juventus homer here, but come on, man.Pogba's game was pretty meh overall, but I am gonna go ahead and say that assist to Dybala makes up for it. Thus is the beauty of a skill set like Pogba's, right?Gigi Buffon made one save, it was an easy one that was right at him. I think he expended more energy celebrating Dybala's goal than stopping Roma shots on Sunday, but that's just me.This season is turning out to be pretty fun. I wasn't sure I'd be typing that they things were going during the first few games in the month of October.POLLWho was your Juventus Man of the Match against Roma?61% Paulo Dybala (278 votes)25% Claudio Marchisio (115 votes)7% Patrice Evra (33 votes)4% Giorgio Chiellini (19 votes)1% Sami Khedira (5 votes)1% Leonardo Bonucci (4 votes)1% Andrea Barzagli (3 votes)457 votes total http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Jan 25, 2016 Juventus made it 11 wins in a row in Serie A with a late 1-0 win over AS Roma on Sunday night at Juventus Stadium in Turin, Italy.Despite Juve dominating the first half, there weren't too many moments of danger for Roma to deal with. Arguably the best chance of the half fell to Roma's Alessandro Florenzi, who skied an effort from an angle.Paulo Dybala struck the bar at the other end but was offside in the buildup anyway. The first half ended goalless. In the second half, both teams were less aggressive than in the first half. Both teams also lacked in clear chances—until Paul Pogba freed Dybala in the box with 10 minutes to go to score the only goal of the night. Here are all the winners and losers from the match.Winner: Paulo DybalaPaulo Dybala was the best player on the pitch in the first half, and he was the match-winner in the second half.Dybala showed invention, vision, a quality first touch and an ability to move to break down Roma's defence in the first 45 minutes, buzzing across the front line and dipping out to receive possession in space. The forward showed a real moment of quality to take down a high ball and lob the goalkeeper, even though he was denied by an offside flag and a crossbar. But there was no stopping him when he scored a left-footed shot late in the match. He had a superb performance again.Loser: Alessandro FlorenziItaly's national team starting winger at the Euros in all likelihood will be Alessandro Florenzi. He was picked in a wing-back role as his manager switched to a 3-5-2.It seems a role well-suited to Florenzi's strengths, but precious few of them were seen in this game; defensively he was caught on the inside several times by an ageing (and ultimately wasteful) Patrice Evra, gave possession away at the back and didn't do enough to keep the back line tight when under sustained pressure. In attack, he missed Roma's best chance with a swiped effort off target, and his delivery toward the front two was non-existent. To compound things, Florenzi was subbed off, possibly injured after a fall, in stoppage time.Winner: Giorgio ChielliniA total rock at the back for Juventus, Giorgio Chiellini had a very straightforward match to ensure his goalkeeper had next to nothing to do.Flanked by the returning Andrea Barzagli, Chiellini was extremely aggressive in making sure he reached the ball first whenever Roma pumped it forward in the second half. Chiellini defended in uncompromising fashion, leaving his team-mates at the back on cover duty—all in a simple evening's work.Chiellini was strong, timed his runs out of the back three well and at times passed intelligently into midfield.Losers: Mohamed Salah and Edin DzekoChiellini playing well aside, neither of Roma's front duo should be happy with their own work. After an early run or two, Mohamed Salah disappeared entirely from the match and was utterly anonymous in the second half, while Edin Dzeko was bossed aerially and never once threatened Gigi Buffon in goal for Juve.Neither forward have scored in the last eight games for Roma—Salah is actually nine without a goal—and certainly didn't look to have the understanding between them or the individual quality to get anywhere near to troubling Juventus on this occasion.Winner/Loser: Luciano SpallettiThere are mixed feelings for new Roma boss Luciano Spalletti, so we'll award him both winner and loser tags.Three points from 57 vs. Juventus, per BT Sport's live coverage, shows his historical inability to get a result against Serie A's biggest modern club. This occasion proved no different by full time—but for a long stretch of the game, his 3-5-2 setup kept Juve at bay. The midfield also worked hard, and the defence was aggressive.Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny didn't have huge amounts of shots raining down on him, and it was a moment of brilliant play from two top talents which eventually opened Roma up. So there is certainly hope going forward into the second half of the season. That said, Roma's winless streak is now four games in the league, and they've taken just one win from 12 in all competitions. So there is much work ahead for the former the Zenit boss. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Jan 25, 2016 Juventus continued their brilliant run of form on Sunday night with a 1-0 triumph over Roma at the Juventus Stadium.Paulo Dybala notched his sixth goal in seven matches to bring Juve their 11th straight Serie A victory and keep their two point pressure behind league leaders Napoli.Paul Pogba made the assist for the decisive goal while Gianluigi Buffon remained undaunted in the dominant showing by the Bianconeri. Juventus Gianluigi Buffon – 6.5 – Untested - Only one save was necessary for the soon to be 38-year-old as Alessandro Florenzi tried his luck from distance but the keeper effortlessly caught the dipping ball.Andrea Barzagli – 7 – Adventurous - Pressed up high to help Lichtsteiner pile more pressure on Lucas Digne, and gave added passing options in doing so. In teaming up with Bonucci and Chiellini at the back the Giallorossi were helpless to break open any clear scoring chancesLeonardo Bonucci – 7.5 – Stellar - Made sure to stop Roma’s linkage of play up the centre of the pitch by cutting out passes and lobbing balls forward with pin point accuracy. His ability to clean up any loose ball inside the area was unquestioned for 90 minutes.Giorgio Chiellini – 7 – Guardian - A fortress at the back to stop crosses coming in for Dzeko and was surprisingly fast to close down counter attacking runs by Florenzi up the flank. His clear dominance in the air proved to be a great asset amongst his defensive partners.Stephan Lichtsteiner – 6 – Quiet - Pressed up high but never seemed to inflict any scares on Roma or Lucas Digne in attack and was also found way offside on one buildup play. After some good defensive contributing early in the second half he was replaced by the livelier Juan Cuadrado.Sami Khedira – 6.5 – Versatile - Never put a foot wrong in a dominant first half showing with Juve. He bossed a crowded midfield with interceptions and easily nicked the ball off his opponents while also curling in crosses from out wide when able.Claudio Marchisio – 7.5 – Valuable - Very gifted with his one touch passes and marauding runs up the midfield with a dangerous juggling move in particular that forced Antonio Rudiger into a foul. Five tackles and two dribbles won throughout his 90 minutes show how well rounded his abilities are.Paul Pogba – 7.5 – Visionary - Made it very hard for Roma to take him off the ball with his pace and strength. While his two shot attempts were off the mark he made a series of jaw dropping passing plays that eventually resulted in an assist for Dybala.Patrice Evra – 7 – Impressive - Squandered two glorious back to back scoring chances after picking up possession alone inside the penalty area and was robbed from close range in the second half by Szczesny in the second half. Otherwise he was a constant threat for the visitors to gave plenty of creativity and services up the left flank for the Bianconeri. Unfortunately his yellow card means he will miss the next match with suspension.Paulo Dybala – 8 – Clinical - Showed outstanding control to bring down a long ball from Bonucci as chip Szczesny in the first half but was flagged for offside. While his free kick attempts were less effective on the day, his lethality in open play proved itself as he notched his sixth goal in seven Serie A games with an inch perfect shot in the 77th minute.Mario Mandzukic – 6.5 – Bruised - Worked hard to pick up passes up front and hold up play, but often found himself involved in fouls whether committing or drawing them as he ended up never managing to register an effort at goal.SubstitutesJuan Cuadrado – 6.5 – Impactful - Filled in for Stephan Lichtsteiner and added a clear injection of life and movement up the right wing. His pace allowed him to nearly create a goalscoring chance as he chased down the ball and whipped in a cross from the byline. A shot on target of his own made his impact well noticed as he gave Roma added stress.Alvaro Morata – N/A Roma Wojciech Szczesny – 6.5 – Valiant - Did the best he could on one of his busiest nights of the season. His clean hands from a series of high strikes and effective positioning helped him stop the likes of Evra and Dybala to keep Roma’s hopes intact, but he was helpless to stop the Argentine’s well taken goal inside the penalty area.Konstantinos Manolas – 6.5 – Stressed - Had plenty to deal with the likes of Evra, Mandzukic, and Pogba testing his fortitude from his defensive area. Even though he survived plenty of scares with his strong tackling and outlet passes, he was guilty of indecision as he was left in between Pogba and Dybala for the decisive goal.Daniele De Rossi – 6.5 – Combative - Picked up his seventh yellow card of the season for a cynical foul on Mandzukic away from the ball in the first 10 minutes, but kept his composure for the remainder of the match to look relatively comfortable in defence until the eventual defeat.Antonio Rudiger – 6 – Rough - Started his match with a series of brutally committed fouls to be booked in the 14th minute. Eventually his focus arrived and he provided plenty of clearances and passes ahead but was left behind for Dybala’s deciding goal.Alessandro Florenzi – 6.5 – Active - Put in three shot attempts on the night but only lightly tested Buffon with one of them as he was guilty for throwing away one of Roma’s only positive chances near the goal. His determined runs up the flank were admirable but not enough to turn the match into his favour.Miralem Pjanic – 6.5 – Targeted - Hardly able to create as much danger in the middle of the park as Juventus were relentless in pressuring the Bosnian every time he picked up possession. A chance to equalize from one of his lethal free kick attempts was left begging as he fired his shot over the bar.William Vainqueur – 6.5 – Defensive - Made many passes horizontally to try and register some comfort for Roma’s passing game. Eventually his second half was a lot more rough as he went on to notch three fouls and three tackles before coming off in exchange for the experienced Seydou Keita.Lucas Digne – 6 – Caged - Left stuck in his own half under heaps of pressure from Juve’s movements forward. He broke ahead on a counter attack with Nainggolan in 60th minute on his only positive run ahead, but it amounted to very little in the end. His long throw in ability can be credited for making Roma’s first shooting attempt in the second half.Radja Nainggolan – 6 – Frustrated - In a new trequartista role under Spaletti he was too often lost away from the ball and not able to create enough of a spark in attack. Two shots resulted in two blocked attempts as he also showed Roma’s frustration and picked up his seventh yellow of the season.Mohamed Salah – 6 – Missing - Virtually anonymous at times and never showed his capabilities to stretch out the pitch with his darting runs and dribbling moves. Only small contributions came with his safe passing before his substitution for Umar Sadiq late on.Edin Dzeko – 6 – Snakebitten - Never quite got the service up top that he needed to notch any shot on goal. He was disallowed from scoring a potential equalizer as Barzagli embellished a potential push inside the penalty area as the Bosnian settled from a lobbed pass. Nearly 20 hours have passed since the last time he scored for the Lupi.SubstitutesSeydou Keita – 6 – Conservative - Entered for Vainqueur to try and clean up the midfield playmaking but did very little to strip Juventus of their confidence and also committed a foul before the final whistle.Umar Sadiq – N/AVasilios Torosidis – N/A http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Paulo Dybala’s lone goal secured all three points for the Turinese giants, who now sit in second, two points behind table-toppers Napoli. “We haven’t achieved anything yet,” he told Sky Sport. “The title race isn’t over yet. “We have to continue playing in the way we’re doing – lots of personality, as well as giving the opposition respect. “Napoli are doing very well, but we must only think of ourselves.” “I think we showed a lot of personality tonight, we waited a lot until the goal came.” The Frenchman then went on to speak on the condition in the dressing room. “We’re a family,” he concluded. “We’re getting along really well.” http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

The red-hot Argentine coolly met Paul Pogba's smart through ball and finished a rapid Juventus counter-attack with 13 minutes left, sealing his side's 11th straight win and leaving Roma hanging back among the also rans. Luciano Spalletti's side stay in fifth on 35 points, 10 behind second-placed Juve and 12 away from league leaders Napoli, and are now officially in a dogfight for third place and the final Champions League spot, from which they are six points away. However carry on as they are and even the Europa League will be a doubt. Roma have only won once and picked up a paltry nine points since November's international break, and will now be looking over their shoulders at AC Milan, Empoli, Sassuolo and Lazio, who are all within four points of the stalling Giallorossi. What will be frustrating for Spalletti is that his team didn't even play that badly on Sunday, but they just couldn't impose themselves on Juve. Roma did perfectly well to contain their opponents for 77 minutes, and after a rocky opening half an hour even managed to control the game for periods, but once Dybala slid home his 12th of the season they had no real response. Spalletti simply doesn't have anyone who is even near the Argentine's quality at his disposal in attack, and that is causing problems for the rest of the team. Roma have gone from being Serie A's top scorers to one of the most shot-shy sides in the league, scoring only 10 goals (and conceding 11) since beating Lazio in early November. The way things are going the club might just have to write this season off and hope to rebuild with Spalletti in the summer, because they're over the halfway point and Roma still don't have an identity. How can a team without an identity have any hope of achieving the club's lofty goals?http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Jan 25, 2016 Juve had won their last four league meetings at home with AS Roma, scoring at least three goals on each occasion. At the end of a frustrating encounter that could spell trouble for AS Roma defender Daniele De Rossi — suspected of racially abusing Juve’s Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic — Dybala sent the stadium wild when he ran on to Paul Pogba’s short through ball to beat Wojciech Szczesny with a crisp angled strike. Juve’s 14th win and 11th consecutively means they remain second but the champions have closed the gap on Napoli, 4-2 winners over Sampdoria earlier Sunday when striker Gonzalo Higuain hit his 21st goal in as many games, to two points. “To win these type of games, you have to strike at the right moment,” said a smiling Juve coach, Massimiliano Allegri. “Paradoxially, in the opening half hour Dybala was nowhere to be seen. Then he was brilliant to score the winning goal for us in the closing stages.” AS Roma remain fifth but are 12 points off the pace after what was Luciano Spalletti’s second game in charge following the sacking of Rudi Garcia two weeks ago. The Italian denied his team had come to stifle Juve’s game-winning strategy, but admitted: “Our priority is to get down to working a certain way. When we start playing and doing well, then we can start to talk about our objectives and (our position in) the league table.” With Spalletti deploying a new 3-4-1-2 formation that saw Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan move up behind strikers Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah, Juve failed to score in the opening half of a league game for the first time since November when they put three, second-half goals past Palermo. But it took only minutes for the game’s first flashpoint, Juventus winning a free kick after De Rossi was cautioned for an off-the-ball stamp on the foot of Mandzukic, who crumbled to the ground in apparent pain. It was then that television cameras allegedly caught the Italy defender mouthing an insult, with reports on several Italian websites claiming De Rossi said: “Shut up, shitty gypsy.” Both coaches played down the incident, although Spalletti did not deny the accusation, adding: “De Rossi didn’t put his hand up to his mouth, but I will tell him to do that next time. “In difficult moments like that, certain manners can go amiss. But Mandzukic was taking the piss out of all the (AS Roma) players during the game.” If confirmed, De Rossi could expect a ban that will do his international career, and AS Roma’s league campaign, little good. It made for a nervous opening period and it took AS Roma 18 minutes to fashion a chance, Alessandro Florenzi testing Gianluigi Buffon with a dipping shot that the veteran ‘keeper scooped up with ease. Mandzukic was in the spotlight moments after the restart, the Croatian cautioned for throwing his arm into the face of Antonio Rudiger, who crumbled to the ground. AS Roma breathed a sigh of relief when De Rossi blocked Sami Khedira’s drive into the box after Salah had given possession away cheaply to Dybala in midfield. AS Roma eventually found their stride and for a while Buffon was the busiest of the two ‘keepers. Dzeko got his head to Miralem Pjanic’s long drive into the area but it went nowhere and a half-volley from Nainggolan was deflected over the crossbar for a corner. Allegri replaced Stephan Lichsteiner midway through the second period and minutes later the Colombian’s high ball found Pogba on the edge of the area. Pogba set up Evra for a snap shot on the left flank but AS Roma ‘keeper Wojciech Szczesny pulled off a great save to block from the Frenchman. Minutes later Juve finally got the breakthrough, Pogba holding the ball up well amid a panicked AS Roma defence to set up Dybala for a first-time strike that zipped past Szczesny and into the far bottom corner.http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Against Roma on Sunday evening, Juventus proved they are indeed the team to beat, managing a 1-0 scoreline that not only keeps them in the hunt for domestic honours but widens the gap between them and the chasing pack.A match full of fouls and silly decisions, Juventus started well but failed to make the most of their chances as their opponent attempted to settle in. Defending in organised fashion despite the lack of genuine talent at the back, Roma worked immensely hard on hindering a Bianconeri side that has forgotten how to lose. Similar to Inter, Roma opted to demonstrate their physicality and targeted Paulo Dybala who struggled to make an impact when consistently thrown on to the floor. The Giallorossi may have defended with heart, but they created little in attack and allowed Juventus to grow into the game. Massimiliano Allegri's side struggled to offer a little unpredictability and seemingly ran out of ideas, attempting similar patterns of play over and over again. However, when a side boasts the technical brilliance of Paul Pogba and the clinical efficiency of Paulo Dybala, a goal is always possible. The Old Lady deserved the win for her desire to succeed coupled with the intensity of play ensured the 11th consecutive victory to strike fear into the heart of the rest of the competition.Player ratingsGianluigi Buffon, 6 -- Barring the one shot on target Roma had, Buffon has very little to do. A spectator for the most part, he never fails to remain concentrated on the job.Andrea Barzagli, 6 -- No amount of time spent away from the pitch seems to have an effect on the veteran defender for he is consistently excellent. Reliable and intelligent, he never risks anything at the back while his attacking third passes are pleasing to the eye.Leonardo Bonucci, 6 -- His geometric passes can be a thing of beauty while his leadership skills come in handy in such fiercely contested matches. Composed and confident.Giorgio Chiellini, 7 -- Again, Chiellini was the best defender on the night, labouring away to make the necessary challenges to secure the defence. Reading the game well and always on hand to rescue his teammates, he is the ever present warrior who muted Edin Dzeko.Stephan Lichtsteiner, 5 -- Not the greatest of evenings for the Swiss. He might always offer his teammates a solution for a pass but he failed to offer much going forward on this occasion. A dull performance.Sami Khedira, 6 -- A few missteps from the German on the night but he can be counted upon to always look forward, attempting to create chances while he offers balance to the squad, making the necessary runs to safeguard the defence.Claudio Marchisio, 6 -- Hindered from impacting the game as well as he does when in charge of the control room, his intelligence is still of great importance in a match in which he is required to understand what spaces he should occupy and where he must position himself. Defensively excellent on the night.Paul Pogba, 7 -- His assist was absolutely perfect and made up for a night in which he succumbed to poor decision making, especially towards the latter stage of the match. One always capable of a moment in magic, his understanding of the game is improving but he must be more composed when forced to play under pressure.Patrice Evra, 7 -- He missed his chances yet the Frenchman offered more than his Roman counterpart, placing himself in good decisions to maintain his team's attacking momentum. A reliable player who almost always makes the right decision, one hopes this won't be his last season as a Bianconero.Mario Mandzukic, 6 -- A man who puts the team before himself, the Croatian is relentless when it comes to fighting for his teammates. A player who defends from the top and never gives up on any ball, his desire is evident and appreciated.Paulo Dybala, 8 -- The Argentine suffered greatly to impose himself against a physical opponent who always sought to foul. Yet despite the difficult nature of the game and his wrong interpretation of the tactics in the first half, the youngster did not miss the opportunity to make his mark, scoring a wonderful goal to seal all three points.SubstitutesJuan Cuadrado, 7 -- He immediately made an impact on he right when introduced as he looked to drive the team forward and take on the opponent. His cunning ability comes in handy as he knows how to win fouls in advantageous positions.Alvaro Morata, N/A -- Wasn't offered much time to impact the match. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti
