Juventus 4-0 Torino: Zaza double
helps Juve to derby triumph

The striker rode his luck in a feisty clash between the Turin rivals, but scored
twice before Paulo Dybala and Pogba's late strikes killed off the away challenge.

A fired-up Simone Zaza was Juventus' Coppa Italia derby hero as he scored a goal in each half to help sink 10-man Torino 4-0 in the last 16.

Italy international Zaza, handed a chance alongside Alvaro Morata in attack, was arguably fortunate to still be on the field when he broke the deadlock at Juventus Stadium after a pair of reckless tackles.

But there was no questioning the quality of goals in the 28th and 51st minute that displayed power and precision respectively.

Zaza now has five goals in Juventus colours despite being restricted to four starts and six substitute appearances since completing his switch from Sassuolo in July.

Immediately before falling 2-0 behind, Torino had Cristian Molinaro sent off for two bookable offences, both very much in keeping with a heated local affair, and Zaza's replacement Paulo Dybala got in on the act after 73 minutes.

A Paul Pogba free-kick completed Torino's misery and Massimiliano Allegri's holders will tackle the winner of Lazio versus Udinese, having beaten the Rome club in last season's final.

Torino settled quickly amid a feisty atmosphere, but needed a vital headed clearance from Bruno Peres in the eighth minute, with Pogba lurking on the end of Stephan Lichtsteiner's cross.

Both teams probed for clear openings as the game fizzed with intensity and challenges were rarely shirked on either side.

Zaza pushed his luck in terms of derby day pleasantries – collecting a booking for a rash hack on Peres in the 23rd minute before the Torino players demanded a second yellow card when he slid in on goalkeeper Salvador Ichazo.

There was therefore an air of controversy when the former Sassuolo forward channelled his frustrations more constructively shortly afterwards, slamming a left-foot half-volley into the top corner following some wonderful skill down the flank by Morata.

The all-action Zaza still had time to shove Kamil Glik into the advertising hoardings and test Ichazo with a long-range effort before half-time, while Andrea Belotti arrowing a low drive wide was the closest Torino came to pulling level.

A fabulous one-handed save by Ichazo denied Morata after some more cute footwork in the first minute of the second half.

Torino's hopes of a comeback effectively caved in after 50 minutes when Molinaro, who earned his first yellow for clattering Sami Khedira 10 minutes before half-time, lunged foolishly towards Lichtsteiner and was sent off.

They were unable to clear the subsequent free-kick and Zaza displayed wonderful control to beat Emiliano Moretti and slot his shot through Glik's legs on the line.

The matchwinner received to a rapturous ovation when he made way for Dybala in the 53rd minute.

Belotti should have reduced the deficit before the hour as he scampered clear of an under-worked Juventus backline to smash into the side netting.

Claudio Marchisio, Morata and Dybala all went close to adding gloss to the scoreline before the latter two combined to make it 3-0 – Morata again the provider for the substitute to stroke past a wrongfooted Ichazo.

The Torino keeper could only push Pogba's flighted 82nd-minute free-kick into his top corner as Juve extended their Turin derby dominance to 15 wins from the past 20 meetings.

The Bianconeri will now face Lazio or Udinese in the quarter-final next month. Daniele Rugani got his first start, but Max Allegri didn’t rotate his squad much for this Derby della Mole.

It was naturally a tense affair and Simone Zaza was first into the book, then moments later risked a second yellow for his late sliding tackle on goalkeeper Ichazo.

Zaza seemed perhaps too motivated to make the most of this opportunity, but he did a couple of minutes later when volleying in an Alvaro Morata cross from the left as he stood on the penalty spot.

The ex-Sassuolo striker still ran too many risks, shoving Kamil Glik into the advertising boards, while Andrea Belotti drilled wide for Torino and Zaza’s long-range attempt was easily smothered.

It was an extremely aggressive affair and Afriyie Acquah was booked for kicking Morata in the back of the leg, something that could barely even be described as a tackle.

Straight after the restart Salvador Ichazo performed a one-handed save to deny Morata and on the corner Leo Bonucci’s goal was disallowed for a very tight offside decision.

There could’ve been two dismissals in the first half, so it was little surprise when Cristian Molinaro saw red for sliding into Stephan Lichtsteiner, his second bookable offence.

Zaza doubled his tally and Juve’s lead with a well-taken goal, controlling with his right foot to dummy Emiliano Moretti and drilling in an angled drive with his left.

Moments later the forward risked another booking yet again, this time for clattering into Belotti, and Max Allegri wisely hauled him off.

Belotti went on the counter-attack only to hit the side-netting, as Rugani did well to narrow the angle. Substitute Paulo Dybala curled just wide of the top corner and Ichazo intercepted a dangerous Paul Pogba cross, as it became one-way traffic.

Dybala did get the third, blasting in a left-foot finish from the edge of the box that left Ichazo rooted to the spot.

Pogba completed the rout late on, curling a free kick into the near top corner with his right foot.

Simone Zaza inspires Juventus
into Coppa Italia quarter-finals

Simone Zaza scored twice as Juventus beat Torino 4-0 in the last-16 stage of the Coppa Italia on Wednesday.

The first real chance of the match came in the ninth minute when Stephan Lichtsteiner delivered a telling cross towards the far post, but Bruno Peres just managed to beat Paul Pogba to the ball.

Tempers boiled over in the 23rd minute when Zaza clashed with Peres, which brought the Juventus striker a yellow card. Zaza was again in the thick of the action five minutes later, but this time for the right reasons as he finished off an Alvaro Morata cross to send the hosts ahead.

Three more bookings followed in what was a ill-tempered first period, but it was Juve that entered the break one goal ahead following a half of few clear opportunities.

Zaza's involvement continued into the second period as the striker doubled Juve's lead in the 51st minute, just two minutes after Torino had been reduced to 10 men when Cristian Molinaro picked up his second yellow card. Just two minutes after his second, however, Zaza was substituted to cap a busy 53 minutes in Turin.

Both teams had chances just past the hour mark, but Paulo Dybala fired wide of the post after Andrea Belotti missed the target under pressure from Leonardo Bonucci.

Juve had their third in the 73rd minute, however, when Dybala found the back of the net after smart work from Alex Sandro, before Pogba made it four eight minutes from time on what was a comfortable night for the holders of the cup.

Juve will face Lazio or Udinese, who meet on Thursday, in the quarter-finals next month.

Juventus 4-0 Torino: Derby Delight
For Bianconeri In Coppa Italia

Dec 16, 2015

Juventus completed a 4-0 thrashing of rivals Torino at the Juventus Stadium in their Coppa Italia Round of 16 encounter.

Goals from Paulo Dybala, Paul Pogba and a brace for Simone Zaza completed a comfortable win for the Old Lady over their rivals.

The Bianconeri took the lead through Simone Zaza. The former Sassuolo star was found brilliantly by Alvaro Morata in the box, where he struck the ball on the volley into the top corner.

In the second half the Old Lady tried to press home their advantage. Morata tried his luck from outside the box, but goalkeeper Salvador Ichazo parried it out for a corner. From the resultant Leonardo Bonucci put the ball in the back of the net, but was adjudged to be in an offside position.

Shortly after it got much worse for the Granata. A second booking for Cristian Molinaro saw the experienced defender leave the pitch and his teammates in a difficult position. Juventus doubled their account shortly after through Zaza once again. The striker retrieving the ball after a free kick broke down, wrong-footing his marker and placing his shot past Ichazo.

Torino felt much aggrieved, particularly as Zaza could easily have seen a second booking for a foul on Emiliano Moretti. Paulo Dybala was next to come close for the Bianconeri, the Argentinian curling his shot toward the far corner but not curling enough.

However, it didn’t take long for Dybala to get some joy for his effort. Receiving the ball on the edge of the area, he hit a curling strike past Ichazo and into the bottom corner. Paul Pogba completed the win with a wonderful free kick that completely outfoxed Ichazo, curling delightfully into the top corner.

Juventus

25 Neto - Hardly had much work to do. Was rarely tested, picking up one of the easier clean sheets he'll ever earn.

24 D. Rugani - Impressed a great deal in his first start. Read the game so well and appeared wise beyond his years.

19 L. Bonucci - Prevented Belotti from seeing much of the ball, never putting a foot wrong in defence.

3 G. Chiellini - Marshalled the back line with great authority and hardly missed a beat in defence, negating the impact of Lopez.

26 S. Lichtsteiner - Full of running on the flank and always was sure to make himself an option on the overlap. Got the better of Molinaro and was solely responsible for his sending off.

6 S. Khedira - Crisp passing and good movement off the ball to open up spaces. Did well to prevent Baselli from having much joy on the ball.

8 C. Marchisio - Pulled the string in midfield, dictating the tempo and dominating possession from a deeper-lying role.

10 P. Pogba - Lively from the start, finding himself all over the pitch and provinding some excellent linkup play in attack. Made it 4-0 with a sensational strike from a free kick.

12 Alex Sandro - Prominent on the overlap, strong in possession and covered plenty of ground on the flank. Played an important role in helping to set up Dybala's goal.

7 Simone Zaza - He was lucky not to be dismissed in the first half, but made the most of his second chance, giving Juventus the lead and then doubling their tally shortly after the restart before being subbed off minutes after. Two delightful finishes were required for his goals as well, which he managed to produce.

9 Álvaro Morata - Played a crucial role in the buildup to the opener, beating two defenders on the left before picking out Zaza with his cross. Excellent job holding the ball up throughout.

Substitutes

21 P. Dybala
- A constant threat after replacing Zaza, adding to Juventus' lead with a terrific strike from the top of the box - which he made look shockingly easy.

20 S. Padoin - On for Khedira in the final 10 minutes and didn't miss a beat.

11 Hernanes - N/A

Torino

28 S. Ichazo - His goal was peppered with shots and he made some impressive stops, but in the end could do little to keep Juventus out for good.

5 C. Bovo - Struggled to break the holdup play of Morata and afforded the hosts too much space in and around the area.

25 K. Glik - Often found himself the last line of defence, and made some important interventions but it wasn't nearly enough in the end.

24 E. Moretti - Had an nightmare up against the enigmatic Zaza, allowing the striker the space needed for both his goals. A forgettable night for the defender.

33 Bruno Peres - Ran well in the first half, providing good support in defence, but faded drastically as the match wore on.

6 A. Acquah - Grew increasingly frustrated as things didn't go the way of his team early on, and struggled to keep his composure as a result. Put in some hard tackles, but was poor on the ball.

14 A. Gazzi - Needed to do a much better job reading the game and anticipating play in midfield. Defensive support was lacking as he had no success disrupting Juventus' rhythm in possession.

16 D. Baselli - Had far less time on the ball than he is used to. Unable to influence proceedings and was replaced shortly after the hour mark.

3 C. Molinaro - Flew into some careless challenges and was made to pay as he picked up a red card just after the interval with the score still 1-0, effectively doing his side in.

9 A. Belotti - Worked hard to try and get on the ball, posing the only real threat for Torino in attack. Became isolated in attack and was replaced for the final 25 minutes.

11 M. López - Didn't put in the required effort to contribute in attack. Seemed more interested in getting into altercations with his opponents than trying to score.

Substitutes

21 G. Silva
- Unable to change much in midfield after replacing Baselli.

27 F. Quagliarella - On for the final 25 minutes but was starved of service with his side down a man.

26 D. Avelar - N/A

Pogba: 'I trained on free kicks'

Dec 16, 2015

Paul Pogba revealed he “learned from Andrea Pirlo” after scoring a splendid free kick in Juve’s 4-0 win over Torino.

The French midfielder curled in during this Coppa Italia Round of 16 rout.

“It was a great game, we were concentrated to the end and got the result we wanted.

“Now we are focused on the next match so we can end the year on a high,” he told Rai Sport.

“I have been training on free kicks. I thank Andrea, as I learned so much from him.”

Pogba showed off a T-Shirt message after the goal for Bryan.

“Bryan is an 11-year-old who loves Juve, he has cancer, and I told him I’d score this goal for him and I’ll always be with him.”

Juventus progress in Coppa Italia,
Roma and Fiorentina knocked out

Coppa Italia holders Juventus secured their place in the quarterfinals with a comfortable 4-0 win over Torino, but Roma and Fiorentina both suffered shock home losses.

Simone Zaza put Juve 1-0 up on 28 minutes before netting his second of the game early in the second half, after Christian Molinaro had been sent off for Torino.

Paulo Dybala extended their lead and then Paul Pogba sealed the success with eight minutes remaining.

Roma, who are fifth in Serie A, lost 4-2 on penalties to Serie B side Spezia after their early kickoff at the Stadio Olimpico ended 0-0 following 120 minutes.

Fiorentina, who are second in Italy's top flight, were beaten 1-0 by Carpi, who are second from bottom in Serie A.

Antonio Di Gaudio scored the only goal of the game with 14 minutes on the clock, while Gonzalo Rodriguez and Jerry Mbakogu were handed their marching orders in the final moments.

Elsewhere, Napoli eased to a 3-0 triumph over Hellas Verona, with Omar El Kaddouri, Dries Mertens and Jose Callejon all on the scoresheet.

Allegri: 'Keep Juve intensity'

2yug7ra.jpg

http://www.football-italia.net/77226/allegri-keep-juve-intensity?

Dec 16, 2015

Max Allegri urged Juventus not to forget their early problems after crushing Torino 4-0 to reach the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

The 4-0 victory puts them through to the quarter-final against either Lazio or Udinese.

“The team put in a good performance and it was not simple against Torino. We did very well to break the deadlock early and then control the game,” he told Rai Sport.

“It was important to reach the quarter-finals and be in the running for all three trophies in 2016. Now we can conclude the year on a high and must maintain the same intensity of the last two months.

“We must also never forget where we were in the table, as that ensures we keep up the hunger and intensity to get results.

“Tonight was a potential pit-fall, as we were on a positive streak and Torino didn’t play at the weekend, so they could’ve been fresher.

“The really positive thing today was the way we controlled the ball. We do have to improve technically, passing the ball quicker, knowing when to slow down or speed up the tempo, as that is what great teams do. I think this side can do a lot better.”

Daniele Rugani was given his first start in a Juventus jersey, having previously played only two minutes against Sevilla in September.

“It was not easy for Rugani to play in a derby and especially a Coppa Italia knockout game, but he did very well.”

Juventus appear to have settled on the 3-5-2 system and Allegri explained why.

“We are lacking a trequartista at the moment. When Roberto Pereyra returns to fitness that will be a useful alternative either from the start or during a match situation.

“The lads are understanding how to approach the game and cover the spaces. I think the team improved a lot between Sunday’s match with Fiorentina and tonight’s test.”

Ventura: 'Juve didn't dominate'  :261:  :haha:  .nono

33u5xzo.jpg

http://www.football-italia.net/77228/ventura-juve-didnt-dominate?

Dec 16, 2015

Giampiero Ventura insists Juventus “did not dominate” 10-man Torino in a 4-0 Coppa Italia result.

The Granata were well beaten in the Round of 16 tie at the Juventus Stadium, the second Derby della Mole clash of the season.

“Our game lasted 50 minutes, up until the moment of the red card and their second goal,” Coach Ventura told Rai Sport.

“Up until that moment we played in a dignified manner, holding out well. It was an open game. After the dismissal, there’s no point even talking about it.

“This will serve as another valuable experience, because you cannot make these naïve mistakes at this level.

“Did Juve dominate? Simone Zaza had the only shot on goal, the word ‘dominated’ seems a bit strong.”

Toro also felt Zaza was fortunate to be on the pitch, as he was already booked and went into several crunching tackles.

Juventus 4 - Torino 0: Initial
reaction and random observations

2i78tw5.jpg

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2015/12/16/10317260/juventus-torino-2015-coppa-italia-round-of-16-final-score-result-initial-reaction

Dec 16, 2015

Simone Zaza walked a fine line between good and evil Wednesday night. He could have been sent off once. Hell, he could have been sent off more than once. He was a little too out of control at times. But much to the chagrin of Torino players, coaches and fans alike, Juve's No. 7 remained on the field. And he reminded them of it not once, but twice.

Behind Zaza's first career brace in bianconero, yet another Paulo Dybala goal that made our hearts melt with happiness and Paul Pogba's free kick to put the cherry on top, Juventus advanced to the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia with a 4-0 win over city rivals Torino in the season's bonus Derby della Mole. Those kinds of wins are fun — especially against Little Brother Toro.

Just to throw it out there, here's what Zaza has done in his brief yet productive stint with Juve:

10 appearances in all competitions, five goals scored

That's pretty good production from somebody looked at as your fourth on the striker power rankings.

Maybe more impressive than the brace Zaza after he could have easily been sent off for a second yellow just mere moments before he scored each of his goals, is the final scoreline against a team where low-scoring, last-second wins have become the norm. If you told me Juventus-Torino would finish 4-0 and have Juve make it look so incredibly easy at the same time, I probably would have laughed at you. But when you've got a team getting better by the game helped out by an absolutely stupid tackle by Cristian Molinaro, then that's what happens.

Molinaro goes off, then the flood gates opened.

Goal, goal and another goal for good measure. It's just the latest sign that this Juventus team is hitting its stride. Too bad we're about to take a couple of weeks off, though. The way Juve is playing right now, I wish they just went right on through the holiday break and continued this momentum that they've built since the early days of October rolled around.

JuventusFC ✔ @juventusfcen
.@paulpogba: "We put in a great performance. We were focused all the way through and now we’ll look ahead to our next game." #JuveTorino

It was a great game, Paul, there's no denying that at this point. And based on how dangerous in front of goal he was, it was also great that Zaza didn't get sent off for one of those tackles that were a wee bit of control. But hey, it's not like that's the only thing that killed Torino's chances of winning Wednesday night, that's for sure.

Random thoughts and observations

I guess the best thing to happen in Daniele Rugani's first ever Juventus start is that we barely heard his name called on the television broadcast at all.

If we were curious to see if Neto was rusty at all after barely playing at all this season, I guess we would have asked for a better and/or more challenging game to get our results. Outside of hauling in a couple of crosses, the Brazilian keeper did next to nothing.

Paulo Dybala dedicated his goal to Ale & Ricky. Class.

Paul Pogba dedicated his goal to an 11-year-old Juventus fan named Bryan who is suffering from cancer. Class.

Both of those players above are 22 years old. That's, y'know, class.

Thanks to Pogba, Juventus finally has a goal from a free kick. It was a pretty nice one, too.

He scuffed a couple of nice chances in front of goal, but Álvaro Morata's assist on Zaza's first goal was really, really good. The guy needs a goal to get some serious confidence going, but it's not like this game was a total wash. I thought he played relatively well all things considered.

Claudio Marchisio didn't complete his first pass against Torino, which means he wouldn't complete 100 percent of his passes for the second consecutive appearance. But he went on to successfully complete just about every other one he attempted after that. Juventus' midfield was in complete control against Torino. And is it any surprise that Juve have gone on this run now that the Marchisio-Khedira-Pogba midfield is healthy and performing well again? Nah, it shouldn't be.

Here's your latest confirmation that Alex Sandro is really good. The guy is a beast.

Molinaro sent in a cross on free kick that went about 15 feet wide of the Juventus goal. I mean, what else did you expect to happen when it's Molinaro sending in a cross? If anybody knows what's going to happen before it actually happens, it would be us.

Max Allegri fielded a pretty strong starting XI in a Coppa Italia game, which may have surprised some of us knowing how Coppa Italia games usually work. Does that mean there will be plenty of squad rotation going down Sunday afternoon against Carpi to close out the calendar year? Maybe.

Holder Juventus is safely through to the quarterfinals after sweeping aside 10-man Torino 4-0 in a derby match.

Simone Zaza had given Juventus a first-half lead before Cristian Molinaro was sent off for a second yellow card, four minutes after the break.

Zaza doubled Juve's lead two minutes later and goals from Paulo Dybala and Paul Pogba sealed the win.

Juventus will face either last year's runner-up Lazio or Udinese in the quarterfinals.

Simone Zaza Walks Fine Line but Helps
Juventus to Coppa Italia Win over Torino

2jeojuo.jpg

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2599913-simone-zaza-walks-fine-line-but-helps-juventus-to-coppa-italia-win-over-torino?

Dec 17, 2015

Having looked on as AS Roma and Genoa were eliminated by lower-league opposition, Juventus could be forgiven for being nervous as they hosted cross-town rivals Torino in a Coppa Italia clash on Wednesday evening.

The last-16 tie saw the two clubs meet for the second time in as many months, with the Bianconeri following up October’s Serie A victory with a comfortable 4-0 win. While fielding many of his first-choice XI, Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri took the opportunity to give some underused players an outing here.

Neto replaced skipper Gigi Buffon in goal, while Andrea Barzagli, Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala also dropped to the bench. Daniele Rugani was given his first start and seized his chance, overcoming some early nerves to turn in a mature performance on the right of the three-man defence.

In attack, Allegri opted to pair Alvaro Morata and Simone Zaza, with the latter arguably becoming the key figure in a contest that was filled with niggling fouls throughout. The former Atalanta and Sampdoria striker was the first man to go into referee Daniele Doveri's book, his yellow card coming after 23 minutes.

Moments after that challenge on Bruno Peres, Zaza slid into Torino goalkeeper Salvador Ichazo as he chased a loose ball. Perhaps fortunate not to see the officials take further action, he would get his name on the scoresheet, volleying home a cross from Morata, who had worked well to create space on the left flank.

The 24-year-old would continue to harass the Granata defence with sheer physicality, shoving over Kamil Glik soon after his goal, much to the ire of the visiting supporters. The poor tackles continued as the first half drew to a close, with both Afriyie Acquah and Cristian Molinaro seeing their names going into the book.

Sadly for Torino, the break did little to calm the proceedings and the latter of that duo—himself a former Juventus player—would be given a second yellow for a late challenge on Stephan Lichtsteiner. The Bianconeri would punish the error further still: The Granata failed to clear the set piece, and the ball fell to Zaza.

With a neat touch to bring the ball onto his favoured left foot, he would grab another goal, taking his tally for the club to five in just 10 appearances. Six of those matches saw him earn only limited minutes as a substitute, playing under 400 minutes since arriving from Sassuolo during the summer transfer window.

Dybala and Paul Pogba would add to the score line, with the home side ensuring that they did not add their names to the list of cup upsets already recorded this week, and Zaza was quick to praise the team’s efforts after the final whistle.

“I am very happy, every one of us put in a great performance tonight,” he told reporters after the game, per the club’s official website. “It was a big win for us because we have continued our great form, advanced to the next round in the Coppa Italia and a derby win is always a derby win!”

With three competitions to keep the fixture list busy, the Bianconeri will need as many regular goalscorers as possible, and while Zaza lived on the edge against Torino, he could prove invaluable as the campaign progresses.

Allegri rewarded for Coppa choices

Juventus crushed Torino 4-0 in a Coppa Italia match which saw Bianconeri
players grasp the opportunity to prove their worth, according to Luca Cetta.

Dec 17, 2015

For so long a black and white party, the Derby della Mole gap has been reduced in recent meetings. That was highlighted in April as Torino ended a two-decade winless run. Visits to Juventus Stadium either side of the long-awaited victory were decided only by dramatic injury time goals.

But when Giampiero Ventura’s Granata crossed the city for the Coppa Italia Round of 16 clash on Wednesday, it felt like we were back to Bianconeri domination. The 4-0 result was the biggest since Juve’s win by the same margin in 2002.

Heading in, Juventus only had to look elsewhere to see the potential pitfall. This week has been home to shock results. Genoa were stunned by Lega Pro outfit Alessandria. Roma’s misery continued at home to Spezia, of Serie B. And Carpi advanced at Fiorentina. Then factor in recent Derby results. They had to be wary. A Granata win wouldn’t be on the level of other shocks, but a confident Juve were clear favourites to meet either Udinese or Lazio.

While Massimiliano Allegri made changes, this remained a strong outfit in keeping with his pre-game message. “Juventus haven’t won successive Coppa Italia trophies since 1959 and 1960, so I think it would be important to achieve that objective.”

One of those introduced was at the centre of the action. Simone Zaza was making just his fourth start, but marked the occasion with a brace. Zaza’s first goal was an excellent swept finish into the top corner. If that was split-second precision, his second goal was more calculated. As a free kick fell into his path, the Italian international sold Emiliano Moretti a dummy and drilled into the far corner. The well-taken goals took his season tally to five, giving the boss something to think about. Allegri ruled out a January loan and Zaza will now fight for his place.

By then the match was over as a contest. Cristian Molinaro had just been given his marching orders to hand Juventus the set piece opportunity. Two goals in the lead against ten men, the home side were in command. Paulo Dybala and Paul Pogba added polish to a Bianconeri tinged evening.

But Torino will question whether Zaza should have been on the field to net at all. Eager to impress, the striker went all out in a typically fiery Derby. Shown a yellow for a foul on Bruno Peres, he was lucky to avoid another just before opening the scoring in the 28', as he slid in on goalkeeper Salvador Ichazo. That he was replaced by Dybala – who was set to be rested – after only 53 minutes showed Allegri was worried about a dismissal.

Another keen to impress was Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard spurned glorious opportunities to score last week as Juventus suffered a costly Champions League loss at Sevilla. He’s looked out of sorts lately. While the 23-year-old didn’t add to his three season goals he did lay on two assists. The first, a fine run and cross for Zaza, looked more like a confident Morata. He was guilty of trying too hard to break his drought towards the end, but by that stage the contest was over.

Allegri also made defensive changes. The inclusion of Daniele Rugani for his first start was most noteworthy. The highly rated young defender had made only a late substitute appearance against Sevilla in September. Last term at Empoli he excelled in a back four, but here he was lined up on the right of the back three. Rugani’s confidence grew as the first half wore on and by the second the visitors offered little as an attacking force. When called upon he did well to stop Andrea Belotti. It was an encouraging outing helped by an ineffective Torino forward line.

That line was in fact so ineffective that Neto, in for his first minutes in nearly three months, kept a clean sheet with ease. The Brazilian cruised through the evening as Toro failed to fire a shot on target. There was also a late appearance for Hernanes – returning from injury – highlighting the options available.

That’s eight wins in ten matches for Juventus since Juan Cuadrado’s goal in the first Derby saw them turn the corner. They finish 2015 this Sunday away to Carpi, hoping to end it in the top three. Going into that match and the New Year, Allegri has seen the depth on offer as his side progresses through three competitions. That’s something he can take from the thrashing.

Massimiliano Allegri was pleased to progress in the Coppa Italia after his Juventus side brushed aside Torino 4-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.

Simone Zaza scored twice in a comprehensive derby victory, with Paulo Dybala and Paul Pogba also finding the net.

The result means Juventus could still do the domestic double this season, while they have also qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Allegri now wants his team to finish the year with a victory over Carpi in Serie A action on Sunday before the Italian season shuts down for their winter break.

"The team put in a good performance and it was not simple against Torino. We did very well to break the deadlock early and then control the game," he told Rai Sport.

"It was important to reach the quarter-finals and be in the running for all three trophies in 2016.

"Now we can conclude the year on a high and must maintain the same intensity of the last two months.

"We must also never forget where we were in the table, as that ensures we keep up the hunger and intensity to get results."

Rugani: ‘Focused on Juventus’

23wlauf.jpg

http://www.football-italia.net/77258/rugani-%E2%80%98focused-juventus%E2%80%99?

Dec 17, 2015

Daniele Rugani is “focused on Juventus” and aiming to prove that Coach Massimiliano Allegri can rely upon him.

The young defender returned to the Bianconeri from Empoli this summer, but only made his first start for the club in last night’s Coppa Italia win over Torino.

“My dream for the season is to carve out as much space for myself as possible,” Rugani explained to JTV.

“To slowly become a player who the Coach can rely on and trust when I’m needed. Rather than a dream, that’s my goal.

“I think that’s what I’ll be doing from now on, to become a reliable player in the eyes of the Coach, who he can rely on when he needs me.

“The thing that has surprised and struck me [at Juventus] is the winning mentality that’s in the air. It’s not just words, when you’re inside you can really feel it.

“So that’s the thing you notice, along with the level of professionalism and organisation.

“Euro 2016? That’s something we could call a dream for this season. It’s obviously difficult, I know that, because you have to play, but I’m focused on Juventus.

“I’m young, I have time and years ahead of me, so I hope to do well here and then the national team will arrive as a consequence of that.

“For now it remains a dream, I’m thinking about doing well, and it would come as a consequence of that, so I’m concentrated here.”

Rugani was also asked to comment on Juventus’ Champions League prospects, after they were drawn against Bayern Munich in the Last 16.

“Bayern Munich is definitely a complicated draw. Honestly, they’re a very strong team, but I don’t think Juventus start beaten against anyone.

“In fact, I don’t think they’ll be very happy to have drawn Juventus. So we have to prepare in the best way.

“We have a few months to do it, and I’m sure we’ll be ready, even more so than we are now, and we’ll definitely play.”

With Serie A heading into the winter break after this weekend’s fixtures, the youngster also discussed the season so far.

“We’ve tackled this last part of 2015 at a high level,” Rugani noted.

“It was fundamental for our title challenge, but we’re still behind and we can’t be content. We have to stay hungry, because we have points to recover.

“But they’re all things which give us confidence and morale to restart again in 2016 in the best way, without stopping. We have to continue this way, starting on Sunday against Carpi.

“Another win on Sunday could see us close the gap to some of the teams ahead, and bring us closer to our goal which is to be fighting for the Scudetto come March.

“It will be a tough game, as they all are. When you play with Juventus it’s normal that every team gives 100 per cent, because it’s the game of their life in a way.

“They’ll be very tight, very compact, and we’ll have to have patience and humility, as well as showing the same desire to fight and sacrifice as Carpi will, knowing that there will also be moments of difficulty.

“We have to be on the same level as them in terms of determination and humility in order to take home the victory.”

Positives

Simone Zaza – With the exception of his yellow card and reckless tackling, big Simone was in imperious form, bullying the Torino defence until they collectively submitted with whimper. He’s been called a one-dimensional player, single minded in his play, but sometimes, thats exactly what you need. A big bully of a centre forward who can put himself about and score the kind of goals he did last night. The finish on the first was Trezeguet-esque and the second was a sharp bit of play, considering he could have put his foot through the ball and hit it with his first touch. Impressive.

Paulo Dybala – Another game, another goal…it’s becoming all too commonplace now, and what a blessing it is to watch a promising young player on the up-and-up. He links up play perfectly between midfield and the attack but last night, with Torino a man down, he had the opportunity to try the spectacular. Scroll down for a screengrab of his goal, the deftest of finishes, caressing the ball into the net. Sublime

Claudio Marchisio – Every now and again, I like to just switch off from the rest of the team and focus my attention on one player during the match. More often than not, it’s Marchisio because simply put, he’s damn good. His efficiency with the ball, his range of passing, his energy, the way he does simple things to keep the midfield ticking over. Almost always flawless.

Paul Pogba – Frustrating for the first half of the match but that quickly gave way to a more mature performance in the second. His free kick was a moment of beauty and his overall play improved as the game progressed. Important to see him back among the goalscorers as he looks like a player that thrives on confidence and his recent performances were patchy.

Daniele Rugani – Three months into his Juve career proper, and the young defender finally get his first start in black and white. It’s difficult to assess what kind of a debut it was, given that Torino played much of the game with 10 men, however two things spring to mind: 1) The way young Daniele kept shouting instructions at Bonucci. A small observation and while it probably meant little in the grander scheme of things, it was nice to see young man not being intimidated by the game or the occasion – rather, he shouted out instructions and called out the passes. 2) The sprint back to deny Belotti. While he still got his shot away, the way Rugani managed to narrow the angle and the fact that he covered for Bonucci….little things, little things.

ARE JUVENTUS DESTINED FOR COPPA
ITALIA GLORY THIS SEASON?

2vc7osx.jpg

http://www.juvefc.com/are-juventus-destined-for-coppa-italia-glory-this-season/?

Dec 18, 2015

Juventus earned a 4-0 victory over 10-man Torino to secure their place in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. Although a number of elite Italian sides also advanced, many believe that Juve will go on to win the competition this season, especially now that Massimiliano Allegri’s men have recovered from their slow start to the campaign. On paper, Juventus have the best squad in Italy and the Old Lady will be a real danger to the other quarter-finalists throughout the remainder of the tournament. Nobody will want to play Juve in the next round…

With the likes of Paul Pogba, Paulo Dybala and Juan Cuadrado in the side, Juventus have plenty of attacking talent and will cause problems for all of their opponents this season. It would be foolish to suggest that this Juve side can dominate like they did with Andrea Pirlo, Carlos Tevez and Arturo Vidal but they can still strangle the life out of matches. Allegri’s unit is very different now and Juventus play in a much more controlled fashion. Last season, they grew accustomed to thrashing opponents. Whereas nowadays, they are having to work hard to win matches, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

With a bit of luck, they could well go on to win the Coppa Italia crown this season. As we all know, a key component in Italian football is defending – and Juve may possibly be the best team in Serie A at defending a lead. Gianluigi Buffon may be getting on but he remains one of the top goalkeepers in Italy. In fact, he will play a key role for both his club and country this season, as it is likely that Buffon will have one final opportunity to represent his country at next summer’s European Championship. At the time of writing, Italy are priced at 18/1 in the Euro 2016 betting markets and Buffon – along with Juventus’ other Italian stars – will all play a crucial role in their success.

In the meantime, they must remain focused on their club performances. Juve’s vice-captain Claudio Marchisio’s experience and intelligence could come in handy towards the latter stages of the Coppa Italia campaign and, while he is no longer a guarantee in Allegri’s starting line-up, his wisdom and advice will be beneficial for those younger members of the squad. Many of Juve’s current crop of players have been involved in either a title-winning or cup-winning campaign before and won’t need much guidance but newer members of the team won’t quite realise the pressure on their shoulders. Seasoned campaigners like Marchisio can help to lift the pressure.

So, can Juventus go on to win the Coppa Italia this campaign? Of course they can. While it may not be their primary aim for the season, the Coppa Italia is a prestigious trophy and Allegri will be keen to allow his strongest squad to compete throughout the tournament. If Juventus can build some momentum in the cup, it may also give their Serie A performances a much-needed boost. With a bit of luck in the draw and the right squad selection, there’s no reason why Juve can’t go on to win the Coppa Italia trophy in 2016.

Juventus reserves step up
in Coppa triumph vs. Torino

2wd24ph.jpg

http://www.espnfc.co.uk/club/juventus/111/blog/post/2762412/juventus-reserves-step-up-in-coppa-italia-win-vs-torino

Dec 18, 2015

On Wednesday night, Juventus defeated Torino 4-0 in the Coppa Italia to once again demonstrate their incredible recovery from the early part of the season. While Torino were forced to play with only 10 men for practically the entire second half, they were convincingly defeated by a Bianconeri side that indulged in squad rotation, demonstrating the variety of skill that manager Massimiliano Allegri has at his disposal.

Opting to give Daniele Rugani his first start for the Bianconeri, the young defender touted to be the future of Italy's defence played a mature game at the back. Level-headed and elegant, what most impressed the critics was how well the youngster adapted to the tactics. Well-versed in the art of defending as part of a four-man backline, the ex-Empoli star proved that he could also manage as part of a three-man backline. Required to cover more ground, he remained concentrated and calm as he batted away Torino's attacking threats.

Grateful and eager to learn, Rugani will be the man Juventus will focus on for years to come, for he not only boasts intelligence and talent, but the type of character that belongs at a big club. Humble, a quiet leader and a man uninterested in the glamour of the sport, Rugani simply wants to play and win, reminding fans of another great man who once captained Juve, the great Gaetano Scirea. While it's still early days and it remains to be seen whether the defender will grow and develop even further, the fans hope the player will be offered more playing time to ensure his progression.

Another player who excelled was Simone Zaza, a forward largely under appreciated by this blog. It must be said that the player has his limitations, as evidenced in the early part of the match. Almost too desperate to make an impression and not elegant enough to navigate the tough moments, Zaza earned a yellow card early in the match and came close to getting another later on. Yet after the initial madness, onlookers saw why the Turin giants believe in the ex-Sassuolo striker, for he demonstrated great technical ability in the 28th minute when he volleyed Alvaro Morata's cross to secure the opening goal of the game, then scoring his second goal six minutes into the second half.

He still not a player capable of leading the line for a big club, but as the third or fourth-choice striker, the Old Lady would be hard pressed to find a better alternative. Furthermore, his performance on Wednesday proved that perhaps with a little more experience and a bit more continuity, the forward can mature and progress, learning how to play for the team in a more composed manner. Of course, certain individuals will always excel when they are surrounded by hard working teammates and in Morata, Zaza had the perfect partner.

The Spaniard has suffered as of late, culminating in a blunt performance against Sevilla in the final Champions League group clash. However, against Torino in the Coppa Italia, the youngster toiled and laboured, showing how much of a team player he really can be when he gives his all in a match. Working immensely hard to keep possession of the ball, it was Morata who helped create Juve's first goal -- one that was perfectly finished off by Zaza. While his finishing is still not at the level expected, all Allegri can really ask for are determined performances from Morata and the goals will eventually come.

So, it was a wonderful performance and another fine win for the Bianconeri. The players have not only fully immersed themselves in the team, playing with maturity and a winning mentality, but they have also understood the meaning of "Stile Juve". Both Paul Pogba and Paulo Dybala lifted their jerseys up after scoring on Wednesday evening to reveal heartwarming messages on their t-shirts underneath. Dybala dedicated his goal to "Ale e' Ricky", Alessio Ferramosca and Riccardo Nero, the two Bianconeri youth team players who drowned in 2006, while Pogba dedicated his perfect free-kick to Bryan, an 11-year-old Juventus fan suffering from cancer.

This side, like so many others before it, have seemingly grasped the importance of this particular jersey and if they manage another win against Carpi on Sunday, then few would bet against them pushing Inter to their limits in their quest to win another league title.

Lichtsteiner: ‘Roma and Inter Scudetto rivals’

http://www.football-italia.net/77289/licht-%E2%80%98roma-and-inter-scudetto-rivals%E2%80%99?

Dec 18, 2015

Juventus full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner believes Roma and Inter “will play to the end for the Scudetto”.

The Bianconeri have won six games in a row after a poor start to the season, and are now firmly back in the Scudetto race.

“Are other teams afraid of us?” Lichtsteiner considered, speaking to Sky.

“I don’t know. We’re focused on trying to win, and I think we’ve found the right way. I’m not interested in whether or not they’re afraid.

“Could Inter win it? Sure, like Roma they’re a team with good players and a top Coach. So they’re definitely two opponents who will play to the end for the Scudetto.”

The defending champions face an early-kick off in Modena against Carpi on Sunday, but the Swiss international isn’t worried by the early start.

“We’ll prepare it like any other game. We’re back among the top teams, so it’s important to be ready.

“I’m not worried, because we players are professionals and we’re able to handle this.”

Daniele Rugani has warned Juventus they must match the hunger and desire of Serie A strugglers Carpi to ensure they head into the mid-season break on a winning note.

After a sluggish start to the season, champions Juve have played their way back into title contention with six straight league victories and have lost just once in their past 10 matches in all competitions.

Moreover, a 4-0 win over rivals Torino in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday means Massimiliano Allegri's side make the trip to the Stadio Alberto Braglia brimming with confidence.

Juve are now just six points off leaders Inter ahead of their final game of 2015 and, with Carpi six points adrift of safety in 19th, all the signs point to a straightforward win for Juve.

However, Rugani - who made his full debut against Torino - says the underdogs will be desperate to make a statement.

"I predict a tough match," he told Juve's official website ahead of Sunday's encounter. "It's normal for the opposition to be pumped up whenever they play us.

"We need to be patient, humble and show just as much hunger and determination to win as they will."

Having made his first Juve start, Rugani has now targeted regular first-team action and a spot in Italy's squad for Euro 2016.

"I'd like to get as much game time under my belt as possible and become a player who the manager can count on whenever he needs me," he added.

"Being a part of the Azzuri first team next summer in France would definitely be a dream. It's not easy because one needs to be playing regular football in order to stand a good chance of being selected."

Carpi have just two league wins to their name this season, but they showed their ability to mix it in a 0-0 draw with Milan this month, while they also shocked Fiorentina in a 1-0 victory in the Coppa on Wednesday.

And head coach Fabrizio Castori believes the win at Stadio Artemio Franchi can give Carpi plenty of confidence moving forward.

"These victories give us the self-esteem and confidence necessary to always look to the future with a positive eye," he said.

"We know it will be tough for us, but this performance and these results should foster in us the belief we can do it.

"We will try to replicate the attitude and performance we showed [against Fiorentina]."

OPTA FACTS

Carpi and Juventus have never met in Serie A; however, the Bianconeri have won the last two times they have played at the Braglia in the top-flight (1-0 in 2002 and 2-0 in 2003).

Juventus are in a run of six consecutive wins in Serie A – on the other hand, Carpi have won only once over this period (away at Genoa), failing to find the net four times in the process.

This will be the game between the teams to have conceded the fewest (Juventus, six) and the most (Carpi, 27) goals from inside the box in the league this term.

Juventus have scored the most goals in the last 15 minutes of play in Serie A this campaign (8).

On the other hand, Carpi have conceded the most goals (17) in the first half.

Juventus have shipped just four goals in the last nine Serie A match-days, and never more than one per match in the process.

Carpi are goalless in their last two Serie A games. They have never gone three straight match-days without scoring so far this term.

Paulo Dybala has scored eight goals in the league this term, all with the left foot – he’s the player with the most left-footed goals so far.

Carpi - Juventus
MATCH PREVIEW

http://www.football-italia.net/SerieA/match/preview/69982

Dec 18, 2015

A giant on a tear versus a bottom team struggling to gain any ground in Serie A, that’s the match-up when Juventus visit Carpi at Alberto Braglia on Sunday.

After a bad start, Juventus are back in business. And how! The Bianconeri have won their last six League matches, scoring 14 goals and conceding just four. Juve were 12th when they lost to Sassuolo, but are now back in fourth place, separated by just four points from leaders Inter. On top, the Old Lady dominated their Coppa Italia clash with Torino, winning 4-0.

Coach Max Allegri has settled on his 3-5-2 lineup and it’s working. There are little doubts at the moment which players will be deployed and why. Juve’s midfield nucleus with Paul Pogba, Claudio Marchisio and Sami Khedira has performed, while Paolo Dybala is silencing everyone who dared to criticise him. The Bianconeri look to end 2015 on a high.

Juve are roaring and that isn’t great news for Carpi. The Biancorossi have won just two matches all season, one (1-2 against Genoa) since October 3. Only once have Carpi escaped the relegation zone, when they beat Torino in Week Seven. Since then however, they have altered between place 19 and 20…

But there’s some hope for Carpi. This team fights like a lion on home soil. The Biancorossi drew 0-0 against Milan and Napoli, and gave Inter and Fiorentina everything they got in two tight losses. In addition, they defeated the Viola in the Copp Italia in midweek. Let Juventus be warned that their last match of 2015 won’t be an easy walk in the park.

Keep an Eye On: Marco Borriello (Carpi) – Borriello once played 17 matches for Juventus, registering two goals and three goals back in the 2011/2012 season on loan from Roma. No doubt the now 33-year old striker wants to prove he still got something left in the tank.

Form Guide: Carpi (L D W L L) Juventus (W W W W W)

Last season: Not played

Stat Fact:
Carpi have scored just five goals at home, joint-lowest in Serie A. Meanwhile, Juventus are second in the league with just six conceded goals on the road.

Carpi V Juventus – Preview: Bianconeri Look
To End Year On High Against Struggling Biancorossi

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/12/carpi-v-juventus-preview-bianconeri-look-to-end-year-on-high-against-struggling-biancorossi/?

Dec 19, 2015

Juventus will be looking to continue their fine form as they travel to Emilia-Romagna to take on Carpi.

The home side, after having a relatively positive start to the season, have won just one of their last nine Serie A game, which was the 2-1 victory away at Genoa. Carpi did, however, secure a famous and historic win in midweek as they beat Fiorentina 1-0 in Florence in the Coppa Italia to reach the quarter finals of the competition for the first time in their history.

The Bianconeri, meanwhile, are the form team in Italy having won their last six games in Serie A. Juventus have also re-found their scoring boots in that time, scoring at least two goals in five of those six matches. Their latest victory in Serie A was an impressive 3-1 win at home against fellow high flyers Fiorentina. Juventus took their fine form into the Coppa Italia as they hammered city rivals Torino 4-0 in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia in midweek.

These two teams have never played each other before in Serie A as this is Carpi’s first year in Italy’s top flight.

Carpi have a trio of injured players who will be unavilable for the game against Juventus, with Matteo Fedele, Igor Bubnjic and Wallace all out. After the midweek win against Fiorentina, coach Fabrizio Castori may rotate his side with attacking duo Marco Borriello and Ryder Matos likely to start.

Juventus meanwhile have fewer injury concerns with just Roberto Pereyra and Mario Lemina doubts for Massimiliano Allegri to worry about. Both Alvaro Morata and Simone Zaza impressed in the win against Torino in midweek, however, the usual front pair of Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic are expected to start against Carpi.

Form Guide: Carpi (W-W-D-L-W) Juventus (W-W-L-W-W)

Expected Starting XIs:

Carpi:

Belec; Zaccardo, Romagnoli, Gagliolo, Letizia; Pasciuti, Cofie, Lollo, Martinho; Matos; Borriello

Juventus:

Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Cuadrado, Khedira, Marchisio, Pogba, Evra; Mandzukic, Dybala

Carpi vs. Juventus: Team News, Predicted Lineups

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2600438-carpi-vs-juventus-team-news-predicted-lineups-live-stream-tv-info?

Dec 19, 2015

Juventus visit minnows Carpi on Sunday, with the Italian champions hoping to continue their recent good form by going into the winter break with yet another win. The Bianconeri have reeled off six consecutive victories in Serie A, climbing the table and returning to title contention.

In contrast, their opponents have struggled in their debut top-flight campaign, registering just two victories in 2015/16, but he will be buoyed by their midweek Coppa Italia win over Fiorentina.

Coach Franco Castori has also steered his men to a 0-0 draw with AC Milan in recent weeks, and his opposite number is fully aware of the difficulties Carpi will pose to Juventus despite visitors' return to prominence.

0 - Carpi haven't conceded goal in away games for the first time this season. Cup. #FiorentinaCarpi

“We’ve another match this weekend that won’t be easy and we need to be on top of our game,” Massimiliano Allegri told reporters this week, per the club’s official website. “Carpi are not to be underestimated. It will be a tricky encounter. We’re playing at 12:30 which is a strange time to kick off and it’s never easy winning away from home in Serie A.”

His players seem unaffected by that early start, however, with Stephan Lichtsteiner telling Sky Italia (h/t Football Italia) that they will prepare for the clash “like any other game” and added he is “not worried, because we players are professionals and we’re able to handle this.”

That bodes well for Juve as they look to continue to pile pressure on the teams above them, and seeing the Bianconeri take three more points before the other fixtures could see some interesting results later in the day.

“Are other teams afraid of us?” Lichtsteiner pondered in that same Sky interview. “I don’t know. We’re focused on trying to win, and I think we’ve found the right way. I’m not interested in whether or not they’re afraid.

Probable Formations

Carpi: (4-4-1-1):
Vid Belec; Cristian Zaccardo, Simone Romagnoli, Riccardo Gagliolo, Gaetano Letizia; Lorenzo Pasciuti, Isaac Cofie, Lorenzo Lollo, Raphael Lollo; Kevin Lasagna, Marco Borriello

Unavailable: Matteo Fedele and Igor Bubnjic (both injured)

Juventus (3-5-2):
Gigi Buffon; Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini; Juan Cuadrado, Sami Khedira, Claudio Marchisio, Paul Pogba, Patrice Evra; Mario Mandzukic, Paulo Dybala

Unavailable: Kwadwo Asamoah, Mario Lemina and Roberto Pereyra (all injured)

Player to Watch

After a few weeks of sitting and watching, Simone Zaza returned to the starting XI this week, netting twice as Juventus eliminated crosstown rivals Torino in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia meeting.

Ultimately helping the Bianconeri to record a 4-0 triumph over their derby rivals, his brace sealed a place in next month’s quarter-finals. It was a tempestuous display from Zaza, with the striker perhaps fortunate not to be given a red card after a string of poor challenges before he grabbed the opening goal of the game.

The 24-year-old admitted in an interview with La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport that he needs to play in such an aggressive manner in order to succeed.

“From my point of view, my temperament is a good thing,” Zaza said (h/t giornalaccio rosa World) “The truth is that if I don’t go on the field with that intensity, then I’d be a mediocre player.”

Key Battle

If Zaza could prove vital for the reigning champions again on Sunday, Carpi’s hopes of victory are arguably tied to the performance of Marco Borriello. The former Juve striker is one of very few proven performers in their starting XI, already weighing in with three goals this term.

He has also grabbed the same number of assists, leading Franco Castori’s men in both categories, and the coach will need his experienced hitman at his best when the Bianconeri come to town.

OptaPaolo ✔ @OptaPaolo
9- Marco Borriello has scored at least a goal with 9 different teams in Serie A; a league-high since 94/95 among current players. Adaptation

The task of slowing down the 33-year-old will fall to the trio of Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini, although Daniele Rugani may retain his place after a solid display against Torino.

Odds (via Odds Shark)

Away win: 1-2

Home win: 11-2

Draw: 13-4

Allegri: 'Carpi win or bust'

http://www.football-italia.net/77329/allegri-carpi-win-or-bust?

Dec 19, 2015

Max Allegri warned if Juventus don’t beat Carpi “everything we’ve done over the last two months will be in vain.”

It kicks off on Sunday at 12.30 CET - 11.30 GMT.

“This is the last game of 2015, which has been full of satisfactions, but they are in the past now. We want to end on a high and every Serie A match is difficult.

“We’re coming off a run of positive results, but let’s not forget we dropped a lot of points against sides like Udinese, Chievo, Sassuolo and Frosinone. We have to win and our only objective must be a victory.

“When you climb as rapidly as we have, the climb is easier than to go from fourth to third, to second or first. Tomorrow has to consolidate our status, then we’ll go on vacation and start again fighting with the top spots, otherwise everything we’ve done over the last two months will have been in vain.

“Morata did well against Torino and played at a very high technical level, which bodes well for the future. We’re only missing Mario Lemina and Roberto Pereyra.

“I have the line-up in mind already, but the most important issue will be the psychological approach. We absolutely cannot take the wrong approach to this game.

“The last game before Christmas always has some hidden dangers. As my team is made up of very responsible people, I am sure we won’t take the wrong approach.

“When Juventus return to the places they usually hold, it’s only natural the other clubs will start to worry.

“There are no secrets, it’s just down to hard work. It’s true the lads have had a great comeback, but it is also true that if we don’t win tomorrow, then the leading pack can break away again.”

Allegri was asked about the crisis at Roma, but insists it is not a disaster.

“The season isn’t over yet and Inter haven’t won the Scudetto. They do have a strong squad, a Coach who has won titles before and are the only side up there not competing in Europe, which is a slight advantage.

“After two years of not even being in the Europa League, they’ve been able to work on the team. They also have very physical, solid players who can get results.

“Roma are absolutely not ruled out, as it’s quick in football to go from the gutter to the stars. They are in the Champions League Round of 16 and have every chance of getting back into the race.

“Considering the way this season is going, I think it’ll be decided on the final day or at the most the penultimate round.”

How did Allegri experience his 2015 and did he fear this campaign would end early for the Coach?

“I believe in what I am doing. Football gives you the opportunity to test that conviction every three days. Our objective was to improve and above all create a squad that until recently wasn’t fully homogenous. The side is now in good shape physically too.

“Daniele Rugani did well against Torino, I don’t know if he’ll play tomorrow, but he proved himself to be very reliable. He has players in front of him like Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Martin Caceres.”

Did Allegri expect Jose Mourinho to be sacked by Chelsea?

“Unfortunately in a career these things happen. Mourinho has won so much and got results everywhere. He might need two or three months to rest and recuperate.”
