Garcia: ‘Don’t rule out Juventus’

http://www.football-italia.net/75041/garcia-%E2%80%98don%E2%80%99t-rule-out-juventus%E2%80%99?

Roma Coach Rudi Garcia isn’t ruling Juventus out of the Scudetto race, and wants his side to be more “balanced.”

The Frenchman takes his side to San Siro to face Inter tomorrow, with many suggesting that there is now a three-horse race between the Giallorossi, Inter and Napoli for the Scudetto.

“I don’t know, they’re two good teams, and we’re not forgetting about Juventus,” Garcia said when asked about his possibility in his pre-match Press conference.

“It’s not that the League will be reduced to just Napoli and Inter. There are more teams fighting at the top, which makes the League more attractive.”

The Lupi have the third-best attacking record in Europe, but Garcia is looking for improvement at the back.

“I didn’t know that, but of course it’s about balance. Scoring a goal is important, but sometimes not conceding a goal can be a very useful thing.

“I don’t know whether the best defence or attack wins the Scudetto, but I like that in a country where there’s always been a history of tactics and defence we score a lot.”

Allegri: ‘No favourites in derby’

http://www.football-italia.net/75042/allegri-%E2%80%98no-favourites-derby%E2%80%99?

Oct 30, 2015

Juventus Coach Massimiliano Allegri warns “in derbies there are no favourites” as he prepares to face Torino.

The Bianconeri have endured a disastrous start to the season, losing four of their opening 10 games, and are three points behind their city rivals.

“In derbies there are no favourites,” Allegri cautioned in his pre-match Press conference.

“The last two derbies have been hard-fought and and tomorrow’s game will be the same.

“I expect the usual Torino, Ventura’s teams look to lower the pace, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get goals. They play the same way, and they’re always difficult to play against.

“It’s an important game, much more important for us in terms of the table than for them.”

Juve have been in ritiro this week, following defeat to Sassuolo on Wednesday, and Allegri is not looking for excuses.

“Fear is useless. We just have to do better than we’ve been doing, we don’t need to go looking for the why and the how.

“We have to put our energy out there on the pitch, but without being nervous. Even in bad times, you have to go onto the pitch with intelligence.

“Nervousness won’t get us anywhere. We have to play good football, and concentrate on that, nervousness won’t help.”

This morning’s newspapers suggested the former Milan Coach could be in danger of the sack if negative results continue, does he feel under threat?

“The thought hasn’t crossed my mind, but if you don’t get results then the Coach is the one who pays,” Allegri admitted.

“Now that everyone is available we have more choices, my team has quality but we have to get results.

“Now that I have everyone available there are more options in terms of formation and competition within the squad.”

Allegri: ‘Doubts over line-up’

http://www.football-italia.net/75044/allegri-%E2%80%98doubts-over-line-up%E2%80%99?

Oct 30, 2015

Max Allegri admits he still has “some doubts” over Juventus’ line-up for the Derby della Mole.

The Bianconeri face Torino tomorrow, and currently lie three points behind their city rivals.

“What do we have to do to save our season?” Allegri considered in his pre-match Press conference.

“Rise up the table. We can’t say ‘we’ve arrived, we’ve arrived’ after every game. We have to get through in the Champions League, with two decisive games. That’s the first goal.

“Then we have to come back in the League and Coppa Italia and maybe improve the situation.

“I’m thinking about the game tomorrow, I still have some doubts over the formation.”

The Juventus squad was also announced, with Claudio Marchisio and Martin Caceres back in contention.

“Marchisio is better. He’s available. Caceres is in the squad, we’re almost at full-strength.”

Juventus squad to face Torino:

Buffon, Caceres, Khedira, Zaza, Marchisio, Morata, Pogba, Hernanes, Alex Sandro, Barzagli, Cuadrado, Mandzukic, Lemina, Bonucci, Padoin, Dybala, Rugani, Neto, Sturaro, Evra, Audero.

Juventus’ Ultras turned up at Vinovo this morning, and were allowed to watch the team training.

The Bianconeri have lost four of their opening 10 Serie A games, and currently sit 12th in the table, ahead of the derby with Torino tomorrow.

According to giornalaccio rosa dello Sport, a group of fans with a banner arrived at Vinovo shortly before lunchtime to fire-up the team.

The Ultras were allowed in to watch the final 10 minutes of morning training from the stands.

JUVENTUS V TORINO MATCH PREVIEW

Just as it looked like Juventus were ready to go on a run, here comes the stinker. The approach in the Sassuolo game was simply inexcusable: the guys were too careless and nervous and got outplayed in the first half. The gem by Nicola Sansone and the Giorgio Chiellini red card did the rest. The reaction in the second half was decent, but not enough to produce a goal and, as we have seen multiple times this season, Juventus’ territorial dominance tends to be sterile and fails to create clear-cut chances.

The players and the coach surely share the blame for the debacle. Sometimes the squad looks too discombobulated for a team with so many quality players in the roster, so I would say that, while you could argue that there has been some bad luck too, the issue starts with the coaching. The players often seem to go on the pitch without a clear idea of what to do and of what the game plan is and improvise or constantly try to create a play on their own. At times, they do not look very motivated and locked in mentally. Gianluigi Buffon and Patrice Evra have basically called out their teammates on Sunday: I surely respect those two a lot, but what does that say about the authority of the coach in the locker room?

At this point, the Turin derby becomes crucial for both the season and Massimiliano Allegri. I do not think that a firing is imminent, even though the whispers are starting to get louder, but if you Juventus fail to beat Torino and Empoli, what else is left to do to try to right the ship? After ten games, this is the worst start since 1969/1970 and the Ferrara and Delneri teams outpaced this one, with way worse rosters. The gap from the top of the table is now 11 points. We know how football works, the coach is the first one who pays the price.

Allegri is keeping it cool in the eye of the storm, but the decision to sit Sami Khedira while Claudio Marchisio was sidelined by the flu is a sin. I get the explanations, but you do not rest players on the road against a good team that was undefeated at home. You simply do not. He should have planned it in advance and benched the German world champion against Atalanta, if he thought fatigue could be an issue. The rotation needs to be more scientific, sometimes he gives the impression that he is punting games.

Martin Caceres and Claudio Marchisio have been called up and they are available, Giorgio Chiellini is suspended. The coach will opt for a full-fledged 4-3-3, with Andrea Barzagli and Leonardo Bonucci as centre-backs and either Simone Padoin or Martin Caceres as right back. If the Uruguayan defender is fit enough to play 90 minutes, he will get the start. If Marchisio is still sick, there are plenty of options to replace him, starting with Mario Lemina. Alvaro Morata is primed to be in the XI after being benched for two games in a row, with Juan Cuadrado on the other flank. The final spot in the attack is really anybody’s game: Mario Mandzukic has been getting a lot of minutes because the coaching staff wants him to regain the right condition after the injury, but he has not looked good; Dybala was a star against Atalanta but was just ok against Sassuolo; Simone Zaza has not featured much in the most recent games. I will go with the safest choice, Mandzukic.

Probable lineup 4-3-3:

Buffon; Caceres, Barzagli, Bonucci, Evra; Khedira, Marchisio, Pogba; Cuadrado, Mandzukic, Morata.

Injuries:

Lichtsteiner (heart condition), Pereyra (hamstring), Asamoah (hamstring).

Suspended:

Giorgio Chiellini

Torino had a very good start, but then they slumped. They have not won in the last four matches: two defeats on the road against Carpi and Lazio and two home ties against Milan and Genoa. Their recent play has been uninspiring. On the road, they have beaten only Frosinone on the seasonal debut, then one draw and three losses. Yet, they approach the Derby with a three-point lead over Juventus, which is very unusual in the recent history of the two franchises.

So, what happened after the hot start? First of all, they got really banged up. They have lost Nikola Maksimovic and Danilo Avelar, who are arguably two of their best five players, and they have not returned yet. They have had some minor injuries here and there that messed up with the rotations. Secondly, Fabio Quagliarella, hands down their best offensive weapon, has not scored in six matches and, while Andrea Belotti and Maxi Lopez are decent strikers, they have trouble finalizing when Quaglia is not on form.

Despite their recent issues, they remain a very good team, even if they are not a typical Giampiero Ventura team. Other versions of Torino used a faster pace because they had quicker forwards: only Josef Martinez is a speedster, but they do not field him a lot. The flank game is the one element that adds some juice to their offense: the right wing has been a strength with both Bruno Peres and Davide Zappacosta, but Cristian Molinaro, who has filled in for Avelar, is not much of a threat. Ventura has been able to reinvent himself multiple times and this time is trying to be successful with a grit-and-grind squad that has more quality in the midfield than it does in the attack. Daniele Baselli has been an excellent addition: while he has been highly touted since his Cittadella days, he had never lived up to the expectations; this year, however, he is playing great and has already scored four goals, including a couple of stunners: he just needed the right coach to bloom. On the other hand, Daniele Padelli is not having a good year, so maybe Juventus can exploit that.

As you would expect, their 3-5-2 is very stout. They have experience and physicality in the back with Kamil Glik, Nicola Moretti and Cesare Bovo. They have many choices in the midfield: they can either use a pretty technical formation featuring both Marco Benassi and Daniele Baselli or a more muscular one with Afriyie Acquah. They paid good money to snatch Benassi from Inter, but strangely enough they prefer to have come off the bench. The coach likes to a defense-first player anchoring the midfield: Giuseppe Vives will start this one as Alessandro Gazzi is ailing. The only doubt about the lineup is who will be Quagliarella’s partner upfront: Maxi Lopez is the favourite over Belotti at this stage. Their best players Peres, Quagliarella and Baselli have been rested on Sunday, that is how much Derby means to them.

Probable lineup 3-5-2:

Padelli; Bovo, Glik, Moretti; Bruno Peres, Benassi, Vives, Baselli, Molinaro; Maxi Lopez, Quagliarella.

Injuries:

Farnerud (knee), Maksimovic (foot), Avelar (knee), Jansson (knee), Obi (thigh), Gazzi (knee), Martinez (knee).

Suspended:

None

Juventus V Torino- Preview: Bianconeri Hope
To Bounce Back Against City Rivals

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/10/juventus-v-torino-preview-bianconeri-hope-to-bounce-back-against-city-rivals/?

Oct 30, 2015

Juventus will be hoping to put their mid-week disappointment behind them as they take on city rivals Torino in the Derby della Mole at the Juventus Stadium.

The Bianconeri lost once again in midweek, as they were beaten 1-0 at Sassuolo. The Neroverdi won on Wednesday night thanks to a superb Nicola Sansone free kick with matter made worse for Juve after Giorgio Chiellini was sent off in the first half. Juve had appeared to have turned a corner, having been on a three game unbeaten run in Serie A.

After the Sassuolo defeat, however, Juve are in 12th place in Serie A with just 12 points from ten matches. Juve will though be aiming to continue their fine home record, with the Bianconeri having only lost once in their last 38 home matches in Serie A.

Torino also come into the game off the back off a disappointing result. Il Toro thought they had beaten Genoa, with a late Panagiotis Tachtsidis own goal, giving Torino the lead at 3-2 in the 89th minute. But in injury time Genoa levelled through Diego Laxalt leaving Torino without a win in four Serie A games. With the game against Juventus being played at the Juventus Stadium, Torino will be hoping to improve their away form, having have lost their last three away matches in Serie A. Il Toro do, however, go into the derby higher in Serie A then Juventus for the first time in 22 years with the Granata two places and three points better off than their city rivals.

Juventus have had the edge over Torino in recent games between the two sides, winning five of the last six derbies. The Bianconeri have a formidable home record against Torino having won their last four home matches against them in all competitions. Juve won the last meeting at the Juventus stadium 2-1 thanks to a last minute winner from Andrea Pirlo despite having Stephan Lichtsteiner sent off in the second half.

When the two team met last, however, it was Torino who came out on top 2-1 to secure their first win over Juve in 20 years. The drought was ended thanks to goals from current Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian and ex Juventus striker Fabio Quagliarella.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri will be without injured trio Roberto Pereyra, Kwadwo Asamoah and Lichtsteiner for the Torino game. Chiellini will also miss out as he serves his suspension for the red card he picked up against Sassuolo.

Torino are still missing a host of first time players such as Joel Obi, Danilo Avelar and Nikola Maksimovic due to injury. After his goal and fine performance against Genoa, Davide Zappacosta will be hoping to hold onto his starting position at right wing-back amidst competition from Bruno Peres.

Form Guide: Juventus (W-D-D-W-L) Torino (W-L-D-L-D)

Expected Starting XIs

Juventus:
Buffon; Padoin, Barzagli, Bonucci, Evra; Khedira, Marchisio, Pogba; Cuadrado, Mandzukic, Morata

Torino:
Padelli; Bovo, Glik, Moretti; Peres, Benassi, Vives, Baselli, Molinaro; Quagliarella, Maxi Lopez

Nedved: 'Agnelli furious with Juve'

http://www.football-italia.net/75072/nedved-agnelli-furious-juve?

Oct 31, 2015

Pavel Nedved admits Andrea Agnelli “was infuriated” after defeat to Sassuolo, but Juventus must recover against Torino today.

The Derby della Mole kicks off at 18.00 CET - 17.00 GMT.

“On Wednesday I was supposed to be at the stadium because it was a particularly important game for us,” he told Czech paper Sport after receiving a medal of honour from his home nation.

“President Agnelli was in the United States and also disappointed he couldn’t be at the match. During the ceremony I kept my phone switched off, but when I turned it back on, bad messages started arriving.

“I was checking the minute by minute action and read ‘1-0 to Sassuolo, Chiellini sent off.’ It was half-time and I was on the verge of a coronary…

“I spoke to Agnelli until 1am, as I was in Prague and he was in the United States. He was truly infuriated by how things had gone. It had been a long time since I’d heard him so furious.

“We are 14th in the table and that doesn’t happen often. We are all terribly disappointed. Naturally I was also in contact with (director Beppe) Marotta, who was at the game, and he filled me in on all the details.

“It’s an ugly situation, we’ve got to do something to get back to winning ways. We were convinced that we were back, then received this punch in the face…”

Nedved took on a directorial role after retirement and was recently appointed Vice-President of Juventus.

“If I am not at the training ground, then I am in my office, two or three times a week. I feel better when on the field because I think I can help more in contact with the Coach and sporting director.

“I believe it is also important for the players that I spend time with them. We have a fairly young squad and I can give them advice.

“In any case, playing is much easier than being a President!”

MATCH PREVIEW

http://www.football-italia.net/SerieA/match/preview/69926

Oct 31, 2015

The Turin teams are struggling in Serie A, which makes the Derby della Mole between Juventus and Torino even more important.

The Old Lady haven’t found their best form since the start of the season. The home defeat on opening day against Udinese doesn’t appear that big of a surprise anymore. Juventus gained seven points against Bologna, Inter and Atalanta, but were beaten by Sassuolo. The defending champions fell into an old habit this season, shooting a lot at goal without scoring.

But that wasn’t the only problem. Keeper Gianluigi Buffon was angered at his team’s lacklustre display. “It's very simple, if you don't win any of your 50-50 or aerial battles and you can't string together three passes, then that's no recipe for success”, said the Bianconeri legend. Juventus are on the brink of a real crisis.

Torino started the season with a bang. They recorded only one loss during their first six games of the season. Since then however, the Granata have gained only two points in four outings, including a 2-1 loss at lowly Carpi and a 3-3 draw against Genoa with a late equaliser. Torino have therefore dropped to the middle of the pack.

Giampiero Ventura’s team will make it tough on their city rivals. Torino have already committed 161 fouls this season, which places them third in Serie A. But don’t underestimate the Granata on offense. They are fourth in the league with a shot accuracy of 48 per cent. Meanwhile, Juventus are just 17th with 37 per cent.

It will be a Derby della Mole on the cutting edge. Both Juventus and Torino need points to keep their expectations alive. Especially Juventus can’t afford another loss. After Buffon’s reaction, the Bianconeri must perform against the Granata.

Keep an Eye On: Daniele Baselli (Torino) – Daniele Baselli scored three goals in his first three games of the season. He scored just one goals during the next seven and was benched against Genoa. Look for Baselli to come out strong and show Serie A that his rocket start was no fluke.

Form Guide: Juventus (L W D W L) Torino (D L D L W)

Last season: Juventus – Torino 2-1

Stat Fact:
Juventus have not lossed to Torino at home in over 20 years. Their last Derby della Mole loss was back in April 1995.

Juventus (probable):

Buffon; Bonucci, Barzagli, Rugani; Sandro, Cuadrado, Pogba, Khedira, Marchisio; Dybala, Morata

Suspended: Chiellini

Torino (probable):

Padelli; Glik, Zappacosta, Moretti, Bovo, Molinaro; Vives, Baselli, Acquah; Quagliarella, Lopez

Suspended: none

Maxi Lopez: 'Aggressive Toro'

http://www.football-italia.net/75100/maxi-lopez-aggressive-toro?

Oct 31, 2015

Maxi Lopez assured Torino “are always aggressive, let alone when we’re facing Juventus.”

The Derby della Mole kicks off at 18.00 CET - 17.00 GMT.

“We are always aggressive in our games whoever the opponent may be, let alone when we’re facing Juventus in the local derby,” the striker told Sky Sport Italia.

“Juventus have individual talents who can hurt you at any moment and we must be very careful, making the most of our potential.

“It’ll be a wonderful challenge against Paulo Dybala, a fellow Argentine, and certainly a great game overall.

“Toro will try to the last second to get all three points.”

Line-ups: Juventus-Torino

http://www.football-italia.net/75098/line-ups-juventus-torino?

Oct 31, 2015

Juventus start Hernanes, Alvaro Morata and Paulo Dybala against Fabio Quagliarella and Daniele Baselli’s Torino in the Derby della Mole.

The Derby della Mole kicks off at 18.00 CET - 17.00 GMT.

The Granata go into the Turin Derby looking down on their city rivals for the first time since 1993, although both sides have been stuttering recently.

Juve were beaten 1-0 by Sassuolo with Giorgio Chiellini sent off and he is therefore suspended for this match.

Also out of action are the injured Stephan Lichtsteiner, Roberto Pereyra and Kwadwo Asamoah.

Juan Guillermo Cuadrado is rested ahead of the Champions League with Borussia Monchengladbach, so Hernanes gets a rare start in the trequartista role behind Morata and on-form Dybala.

Claudio Marchisio returns from flu in midfield and Simone Padoin is picked at right-back, but still no room for Daniele Rugani.

Torino are sitting in mid-table, but are without a victory in four rounds, so they’re not quite as confident as a month ago.

Quagliarella faces his former club wearing the jersey of city rivals Torino and he’s supported by Maxi Lopez.

The one to watch is Daniele Baselli, the 23-year-old midfielder who scored five goals in 10 competitive games this season.

Coach Giampiero Ventura has been dealing with an injury crisis all season, still missing Josef Martinez, Alexander Farnerud, Nikola Maksimovic, Danilo Avelar, Pontus Jansson, Joel Obi and Alessandro Gazzi.

Bruno Peres returns from the start after his injury.

Juventus: Buffon; Evra, Barzagli, Bonucci, Padoin; Khedira, Marchisio, Pogba; Hernanes; Morata, Dybala

Juventus bench: Neto, Audero, Caceres, Zaza, Alex Sandro, Cuadrado, Mandzukic, Lemina, Rugani, Sturaro

Torino: Padelli; Bovo, Glik, Moretti; Peres, Acquah, Vives, Baselli, Molinaro; Maxi Lopez, Quagliarella

Torino bench: Castellazzi, Ichazo, Zappacosta, Benassi, Silva, Amauri, Prcic, Pryyma, Belotti

Dybala: 'Early goal in the derby'

http://www.football-italia.net/75099/dybala-early-goal-derby

Oct 31, 2015

Paulo Dybala warned Juventus must “break the deadlock quickly” in the Derby della Mole with Torino.

“We know the derby is a very different game to all the others and we know our fans want the victory. We want it too and we’ve prepared in the best way possible,” the forward told Mediaset Premium.

“We must step on to the field with the same spirit as the second half against Sassuolo. We need to break the deadlock quickly and that will help us relax.

“Gigi Buffon and Patrice Evra are the most experienced players in the group and they said the right things at the right time.”

HT 1-0: Pogba stunner in Turin Derby

http://www.football-italia.net/75104/ht-pogba-stunner-turin-derby

Oct 31, 2015

Paul Pogba’s majestic goal on the volley has given Juventus the half-time lead over Torino in the Derby della Mole.

It's not all good news for the Bianconeri, as Sami Khedira went off injured.

For the first time since 1993, Toro went into the Derby della Mole looking down the table at their city rivals, but were themselves without a win in four rounds. Giorgio Chiellini was suspended following the defeat at Sassuolo, joining Stephan Lichtsteiner, Roberto Pereyra and Kwadwo Asamoah in the stands, so Hernanes was given a rare start. Toro missed Josef Martinez, Alexander Farnerud, Nikola Maksimovic, Danilo Avelar, Pontus Jansson, Joel Obi and Alessandro Gazzi.

Sami Khedira lasted just nine minutes before he fell to the ground with a suspected calf strain and Juve had to transform their tactics to 4-3-3 with Juan Guillermo Cuadrado.

Fabio Quagliarella hit the side-netting, but Paul Pogba broke the deadlock with an absolute stunner to silence his critics. Paulo Dybala’s dummy let Cuadrado’s pass through and the Frenchman smashed on the volley from the edge of the box, bouncing off the underside of the bar. It was the ideal way to mark his 100th Serie A game.

Pogba was fired up and moments later in one move got both Afriyie Acquah and Cesare Bovo booked. Quagliarella drilled just wide of the upright, while Dybala did the same at the far top corner after the ball fell kindly.

Cristian Molinaro volleyed a Bovo cross back into the middle, where Maxi Lopez and Quagliarella had two shots charged down from point-blank range.

Juventus 1-0 Torino (Half-Time)

Scorers: Pogba 19 (J)

Juventus: Buffon; Evra, Barzagli, Bonucci, Padoin; Khedira (Cuadrado 11), Marchisio, Pogba; Hernanes; Morata, Dybala

Torino: Padelli; Bovo, Glik, Moretti; Peres, Acquah, Vives, Baselli, Molinaro; Maxi Lopez, Quagliarella

Juan Cuadrado settled a pulsating Turin derby with a 93rd-minute winner as Juventus defeated Torino 2-1 on Saturday.

Substitute Cuadrado, on loan from Chelsea, slid in to convert Alex Sandro's cross deep into stoppage time after Cesare Bovo looked to have earned the visitors a share of the spoils when he cancelled out Paul Pogba's stunning opener.

Pogba fired Juve into a 19th-minute lead to celebrate his 100th Serie A appearance in some style with a glorious half-volley. Six minutes after the break, Bovo's free-kick hit his own man, but the rebound fell nicely and the defender thumped it beyond Gianluigi Buffon.

Fabio Quagliarella missed two good chances for Torino against his old club and Leonardo Bonucci was denied by the crossbar in the 90th minute. Buffon also made a string of late saves in a frantic finale before Cuadrado popped up to open his Juve account.

The only downside for Massimiliano Allegri's men, who bounced back from last weekend's 1-0 defeat at Sassuolo to claim a victory that leaves them 10th, came when they lost Germany midfielder Sami Khedira to a calf injury early on.

Cuadrado replaced Khedira and Allegri switched from 4-3-1-2 to 4-3-3.

The first action came after 17 minutes when Pogba had an effort from 25 yards, but Daniele Padelli made a comfortable save.

Quagliarella then hit the side netting with a volley, but the champions took the lead on the break seconds later.

Paulo Dybala and Cuadrado combined and the ball sat up ideally for Pogba. The France international let fly from distance again and this time his connection on the half-volley was perfect, the ball fizzing in off the bar with Padelli given no chance.

Pogba was rampant and Bovo and Afriyie Acquah were both booked for trying to stop the same driving run by the powerful midfielder.

Quagliarella went close again on the half hour, but the 32-year-old shot wide of Buffon's left-hand post from a good position under pressure from Bonucci.

A deep cross caused chaos in the Juve box three minutes before half-time, but the hosts survived with Maxi Lopez seeing two shots blocked.

Torino, now winless in five matches, equalised six minutes into the second half. Bovo's free-kick was blocked in the wall by a team-mate, but he hammered the loose ball into the top corner.

The visitors were on top and Buffon brilliantly tipped over Kamil Glik's bullet header after 57 minutes.

After a period of Juve possession, Dybala's shot deflected just wide following a flowing team move, before a corner bounced off Pogba and went just beyond the far post.

Buffon then had to be alert to keep out a firm drive from long range by Giuseppe Vives before reacting well to stop a deflected strike from Davide Zappacosta and saving again from Kamil Glik, holding the Poland defender's header right on the line.

The woodwork denied Juve as Bonucci almost clinched the win with a header, Padelli saving from Claudio Marchisio in the resulting melee.

Juve threw men forward and were rewarded when Sandro found room on the left, his low cross beat Padelli and left Cuadrado with a tap-in from a yard out.

Juventus

1 G. Buffon - Made a number of important saves in the second half to ensure that Juve had a chance of snatching a late winner.

20 S. Padoin - Struggled to contribute offensively, but did a steady job on the defensive side of things.

15 A. Barzagli - Covered across to make some neat challenges, with the ex-Palermo defender always calm and composed.

19 L. Bonucci - Was an aerial threat in both penalty areas and made a couple of important recovering tackles. Did give away some poor fouls.

33 P. Evra - Strong in the tackle and also aerially, as the Frenchman didn't allow much to get past him.

6 S. Khedira - Forced to leave the field due to an injury problems after merely 10 minutes of the contest.

8 C. Marchisio - Saw a couple of long-range efforts blocked and was neat and tidy when trying to lead breaks from midfield.

10 P. Pogba - Lashed home a dipping half volley to open the scoring and was a real threat on the break throughout the evening.

11 Hernanes - Wasn't afraid to try his luck from range, but couldn't seem to find a final ball or piece of cutting edge.

9 Álvaro Morata - Struggled to get the space required to turn and drive at his man, as Torino kept things tight and congested.

21 P. Dybala - Went close with a few shots and saw countless attempts blocked. Bright and dangerous on the ball.

Substitutes

16 J. Cuadrado
- His pace and trickery caused plenty of problems for Torino, with the ex-Viola attack bundling home the winner.

17 M. Mandžukić - Used his physical presence to unsettle the visiting back four.

12 Alex Sandro - Provided a great cross for Cuadrado's winner.

Torino

1 D. Padelli - Could do nothing about the opener, but did command his penalty area quite well throughout.

5 C. Bovo - Lashed home a powerful goal to give Torino some hope, after seeing an initial free-kick attempt strike the wall.

25 K. Glik - Threw himself at everything and forced Buffon into a couple of late saves from corners.

24 E. Moretti - Put his body on the line throughout and was a fairly useful aerial presence defensively.

3 C. Molinaro - Broke to the byline on a few notable occasions, but was just unable to pull out the stops to pick out an assist.

6 A. Acquah - Combative and pressed enthusiastically in the midfield battle throughout the 90 minutes.

20 G. Vives - Tried his luck from range on a couple of occasions and led a couple of bright breaks.

16 D. Baselli - Offered energy and work rate, but little in the way of quality. Replaced fairly early on in the second half.

33 Bruno Peres - Offered industry and determination in wide areas, but didn't provide much in the way of quality.

11 M. López - Offered plenty of running and work rate up top and provided Quagliarella with a fair amount of service.

27 F. Quagliarella - Dragged a few poor shots wide of the target, but was a nuisance throughout the entire contest.

Substitutes

7 D. Zappacosta
- Whipped in a couple of interesting balls from wide areas.

15 M. Benassi - Offered a little more ability on the ball after replacing Baselli.

9 A. Belotti - Introduced late on, as Ventura looked to freshen things up.

Torino did get back on level terms after the break. Bovo’s free kick from the edge of the box hit the wall, but the defender smashed the rebound under the bar with remarkable ferocity. Gigi Buffon got to it late due to the sheer speed it was travelling at and the presence of the wall. It was Bovo’s first Serie A goal since May 2011.

Toro were fired up and moments later Buffon flew to palm a Kamil Glik free header out from under the bar on a corner. It was wide open and Pogba at full stretch couldn’t beat Padelli, while Pogba couldn’t control a Dybala corner that whipped across the face of goal.

Buffon had his gloves stung by a sudden long-range Giuseppe Vives strike, then had to be alert on a deflected Davide Zappacosta cross that was squirming in at the near post and Glik’s header from the resulting corner.

In stoppages Juve thought they had won it, but Leonardo Bonucci’s glancing header from a Hernanes free kick smacked against the crossbar and as the move continued Padelli got down well to parry Claudio Marchisio’s follow-up.

It wasn’t over yet and deep into extra time Alex Sandro rolled across from the left for Cuadrado to slide in, anticipating Bruno Peres to bundle over the line from point-blank range. It was the Colombian’s first goal in a Juventus jersey and a memorable one indeed.

Just as last season in this fixture, Toro gave a good account of themselves only to be defeated in stoppages. This also means Juventus catch Toro in the table on 15 points.

Juventus:
Buffon; Padoin, Barzagli, Bonucci, Evra; Khedira (Cuadrado 11), Marchisio, Pogba; Hernanes; Morata (Mandzukic 77), Dybala (Alex Sandro 87)

Torino:
Padelli; Bovo, Glik, Moretti; Molinaro (Zappacosta 61), Acquah, Vives, Baselli (Benassi 65), Peres; Maxi Lopez (Belotti 87), Quagliarella

Last-gasp Juan Cuadrado strike
wins Torino derby for Juventus

Juan Cuadrado's goal in the third minute of stoppage time has secured a 2-1 victory for Juventus over Torino in the first Turin derby of the season at Juventus Stadium.

The hosts started the match three points behind their rivals after a poor start to their Serie A title defence but they began the match on top and saw Paul Pogba smash an effort from 25 yards straight at Daniele Padelli.

After 19 minutes the Frenchman produced a moment of magic to opening the scoring when, after Paulo Dybala had dummied over Cuadrado's ball infield, he took one touch before lifting the bouncing ball over the goalkeeper's head from 25 yards to put Juve ahead amid a cacophony of noise.

The visitors responded well to the setback, however, and former Bianconeri man Fabio Quagliarella stabbed wide from close range moments after he had dragged a free kick off-target as they looked to get a foothold in the match.

Dybala curled narrowly wide of the post as the hosts went for a second before the break, but they were lucky to reach half time with a lead as Quagliarella's shot from Cristian Molinaro's shot was blocked on the goalline before being scrambled clear.

Juve had not lost at home since the opening day of the season and had won their last two in front of their own fans, but both of those records were threatened just six minutes into the second half.

Cesare Bovo's free kick hit the wall but when the rebound fell back to him, he lashed the ball into the roof of the net from 20 yards to stun the home fans and wipe out the lead.

Minutes later Gianluigi Buffon had to make a fine instinctive save to prevent Kamil Glik heading Torino into the lead from a corner as a shellshocked Juve struggled to cope with their rivals' increased confidence.

Buffon produced another crucial stop to deny Glik again with 14 minutes remaining in an end-to-end finale, before Juventus came within inches of winning it in the dying moments.

Leonardo Bonucci's flick-on from a deep free kick came back off the crossbar with Padelli beaten, but the goalkeeper reacted well to deny Claudio Marchisio's scuffed rebound on the goalline.

However, Torino's hopes of escaping with a point were dashed in cruel fashion when Cuadrado was in the right place to turn home Alex Sandro's low cross and send Juventus fans wild with virtually the last kick of the game.

Juventus 2-1 Torino: Cuadrado Saves
Bianconeri In Dramatic Derby

Juventus snatched a 2-1 win over rivals Torino in the Derby della Mole at the Juventus Stadium on Saturday evening in Serie A.

Paul Pogba opened the scoring with a wonderfully taken half-volley, but Cesare Bovo levelled for the Granata in the second half before Juan Cuardrado bundled the ball over the line in stoppage time.

The Bianconeri took the lead in spectacular fashion. Paulo Dybala allowed the ball to run, giving Paul Pogba the chance to thunder the ball past Daniele Padelli on the half-volley from distance.

Torino tried to respond, Fabio Quagliarella putting his shot just wide of the post after a well worked move. Maxi Lopez nearly managed to poke the ball past Gianluigi Buffon before half time, but fouled Leonardo Bonucci in the process.

In the second half, the two sides were level. A poorly executed free kick from Cesare Bovo was followed up by the defender, who blasted his shot past Buffon on the edge of the area. The Granata tried to press their advantage, Kamil Glik was the next to come close, but Buffon denied him brilliantly from a corner.

The Old Lady went in search of a winner with time running out. Pogba was in front of goal once again, but his shot lacked the power and was claimed by Padelli easily. Dybala tried his luck from range, but it was deflected behind. At the other end, Glik had another chance with a towering header, but it flew straight at Buffon who just about kept it going over the line.

Bonucci hit the bar in the dying minutes, and just before the final whistle Juan Cuadrado connected with the cross from Alex Sandro and slid the ball over the line; earning all three points for Juve.

Cuadrado: 'Fought to the end'

Juan Guillermo Cuadrado felt Juventus “deserved the victory” by fighting Torino to the final whistle.

The Colombian sealed the 2-1 victory deep into stoppages for his first goal in a Bianconeri jersey.

“The truth is that we fought hard to the end and when you work this hard, the results do come. I have to thank God, as it was so tough till the end against a great side like Toro,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“In the end, I think we deserved the victory. We know we’ve got Gigi Buffon in goal and he’s a guarantee.

“We were trying to play our game, but Toro were well-organised and we struggled to do as well as we did in the first half.

“This victory helps, it fires us up more to do well and in our minds the objective is to continue this march to close on the Scudetto places.”

Juan Cuadrado's 93rd-minute winner
gives Juventus victory in Turin derby

Juan Cuadrado came on as a substitute and scored his first Serie A goal of the season at the death to earn struggling Juventus a 2-1 victory over Torino in Saturday's derby della Molle.

With the game looking as if it would end in a draw, Juve's Leonardo Bonucci saw his header hit the crossbar and moments later Chelsea's on-loan winger Cuadrado tapped in substitute Alex Sandro's cross to earn Juve three points.

Torino defender Cesare Bovo had scored his first Serie A goal since May 2011 to cancel out Paul Pogba's opener six minutes into the second half.

The win at is Juve's fourth of the domestic campaign and has lifted the Bianconeri above Torino into 10th place.

Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri was searching for answers after his side's 1-0 defeat at Sassuolo on Wednesday, a result that left them 11 points adrift of Serie A leaders Roma.

Toro, who had not been above Juve in the standings after 10 rounds for 31 years, were looking for their first win since September 27.

The hosts, without suspended defender Giorgio Chiellini, suffered a setback in the ninth minute when Sami Khedira sustained an apparent calf strain and was replaced by Cuadrado.

Former Juve forward Fabio Quagliarella, whose goal earned Toro a 2-1 win against Juve back in April to secure their first Turin derby victory for 20 years, then nearly put the visitors ahead. He was fed by Bovo in the box but his right-footed shot found the side-netting.

Juve went ahead in the 19th minute when Cuadrado's pass found Pogba outside the area and the French midfielder saw his 25-yard volley bounce off the underside of the bar and beat Toro goalkeeper Daniele Padelli. It was Pogba's second league goal of the season.

In the 30th minute, Quagliarella found space just outside the area and struck a right-footed shot that went wide.

At the other end, Paulo Dybala's left-footed attempt went over the bar.

Toro almost equalised before the interval but Quagliarella's goal-bound strike was blocked by Andrea Barzagli.

The Granata increased the pressure after the restart and pulled level in the 51st minute. Bovo's free-kick hit team-mate Daniele Baselli but the defender was first to the rebound and he hit a left-bullet strike from 25 yards past helpless Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Toro almost took the lead in the 57th minute but Buffon made a great save to clear Kamil Glik's powerful header following a corner.

Juve could have gone back in front one minute later when Dybala sent Pogba through on goal but the Frenchman saw Padelli keep out his his close-range strike.

In the 70th minute, Giuseppe Vives warmed the hands of Buffon with a hard drive from 30 yards.

With the Granata beginning to look more dangerous, Buffon made a goal-line clearance from Glik's powerful header.

With 12 minutes remaining, Allegri brought on Mario Mandzukic in place of Alvaro Morata, hoping to spark his team.

Juve reacted and could not believe their luck in stoppage time when Bonucci's header from Hernanes' free-kick struck the woodwork with Padelli already beaten.

However, they found the back of the net seconds later when Cuadrado beat his marker and struck the ball from five yards past Padelli.

Player Ratings: Juventus 2-1 Torino

Juventus beat Torino 2-1 at at the Juventus Stadium on Saturday night to win the Turin derby.

The Bianconeri opened the scoring in the 19th minute through a stunning Paul Pogba effort. However, Torino kept themselves in the game and scored an equaliser with another brilliant effort from Cesare Bovo. But, in the dying seconds substitute Juan Cuadrado nicked a winner to give The Old Lady a much-needed victory.

Juventus

Gianluigi Buffon – 6 – Consistent - The Italian was relatively untested in the first half, however in the second half he possibly could have done better to deny Cesare Bovo the equaliser. However, he also produced one stunning save to deny Kamil Glik.

Simone Padoin – 6 – Solid - Padoin as usual was nothing special but he acquitted himself well and he was rarely found out by Christian Molinaro or Bruno Peres when he switched flanks.

Andrea Barzagli – 5.5 – Weak - Like his defensive partner, his distribution was strong but often in the second half he struggled to deal with the trickery of Fabio Quagliarella.

Leonardo Bonucci - 5.5 - Average - Relaxed in possession he provided a platform for all of the Bianconeri’s attacks, however when defending corners he was poor and he also gave away a silly foul which led to the equaliser .

Patrice Evra – 5 – Lacklustre - Struggled to deal with the trickery of Bruno Peres and then the direct and purposeful running of Davide Zappacosta, as the 34-year-old showed his age.

Sami Khedira – N/A - Came off in the 11th minute w3ith an injury but the German looked solid up until that point.

Claudio Marchisio – 6.5 – Classy - Calm in possession, Andrea Pirlo’s heir was also energetic and drove Juventus forward numerous times. He constantly probed the Torino defence with balls over the top.

Paul Pogba – 7.5 – Excellent - The Frenchman had looked dangerous in the early stages and in the 19th minute he showed why he is so highly rated, as he flashed in a beautiful shot which left Padelli stranded. The rest of his performance lived up to that early effort.

Hernanes – 6 – Composed - The former Lazio man was tidy on the ball but despite one decent effort from range, he failed to really create or truly contribute to the win.

Paulo Dybala – 5.5 – Wasteful - The Argentinian was tricky at times but too often he took too long on the ball and was outmuscled by the Torino centre-backs.

Alvaro Morata – 5.5 – Pointless - Despite toiling hard, the Spaniard was unable to really trouble the Torino defence with his runs in behind, though his link-up play was decent.

Substitutes

Juan Cuadrado – 7 – Lightning
- Energetic and sprightly as usual, he provided a lovely assist which set up the opening goal, as well as scoring the winner as he claimed tomorrow’s headlines.

Mario Mandzukic – N/A - Only on for 11 minutes and barely made an impact once again.

Torino

Daniele Padelli – 7 – Reliable - He was unlucky with Pogba’s strike in the first-half but apart from this, the sometimes shaky goalkeeper was very strong and kept Torino in it until the last few seconds.

Cesare Bovo – 7 – Fiery - Despite often having trouble containing the Juventus forward line Bovo made up for it by scoring a thunderous goal to equalise for Torino.

Kamil Glik – 6.5 – Rock - His distribution was excellent throughout and he was unlucky not to score in the second half. The only negative was his positioning for Pogba’s goal.

Emiliano Moretti – 5.5 – Sloppy - Moretti was doing well for most of the match, though Cuadrado did trouble him at times, however in the dying seconds he failed to stop the Colombian from tapping in the winner.

Bruno Peres – 6.5 – Inventive - The Brazilian was always eager to get forward and often caused a problem for Patrice Evra with his direct dribbling, but his end product was often lacking.

Afriyie Acquah – 4 – Risky - The Ghanaian could have done better to close down Pogba before he lashed in the opener, and despite working hard he was often clumsy with the ball.

Giuseppe Vives – 6 – Decent - Like Hernanes, he was tidy in possession and rarely gave the ball away, but at the same time he was sometimes overrun by the likes of Pogba and Marchisio

Daniele Baselli – 5 – Quiet - The 23-year-old was rather absent from most of match though he was able to create a chance for Fabio Quagliarella in the opening half.

Christian Molinaro – 5 – Laconic - Struggled with the speed of Cuadrado and was eventually taken off because of this and also because he received a rather needless yellow card.

Maxi Lopez – 4.5 – Feeble - The Argentinian’s hold up play was poor throughout as he often got outmuscled by Bonucci and Barzagli.

Fabio Quagliarella – 7 – Clever - Should have probably scored in the first half but apart from that miss he was one of Torino’s best players as his skill caused Barzagli numerous problems

Substitutes

Davide Zappacosta – 6.5 – Energetic
- Like Peres he caused Evra a whole host of problems and almost scored late on after his cross was deflected.

Marco Benassi – 5.5 – Forgettable - Came on for the ineffective Baselli and he himself was also rather ineffective but his passing was still solid if mainly sideways.

Andrea Belotti – N/A - On for just seven minutes.

Ventura: 'Toro suicide'

Giampiero Ventura felt Torino “committed suicide” in their last-gasp defeat to Juventus. “This is really hard to swallow.”

The Granata had the better of the second half after Cesare Bovo wiped out a Paul Pogba opener, but Juan Cuadrado secured the 2-1 result at the 94th minute.

“This result is really hard to swallow,” Coach Ventura told Sky Sport Italia.

“Last season we deserved to win the derby at the Stadium and the same is true tonight. For 85 minutes we played the game we wanted to, with the objective of three points and allowing Juve barely anything.

“In the last five minutes, we hoped to just get a draw and stopped playing. We gave our best before then, showing great intensity and going close to a second goal numerous times.

“It’s a real shame, I’m sorry for the club, the fans and the players. I am angry and disappointed, above all for my lads who deserved to emerge from the Stadium at least unbeaten.

“Losing two derbies in a row like this to Juventus is like committing suicide in my view. Fortunately I have a group of quality players who are ready to learn from their mistakes.”

Serie A: Juan Cuadrado Winner Gives

Paul Pogba had put Juve in front after 19 minutes but Cesare Bovo looked to have saved a point for Torino early in the second period.

But substitute Cuadrado grabbed the winning goal which lifted Juventus into 10th spot, eight points behind leaders Roma who can extend their lead later Saturday when they travel to fourth-placed Inter Milan.

Juventus went into the match sitting in 12th place, with coach Massimiliano Allegri coming under intense pressure following some poor recent results.

For their part, the visitors –- who won the last time these sides met back in May -– were buoyed by the fact they entered the clash above Juve in the table for the first time since 1993.

However, Torino boss Giampiero Ventura had a lengthy injury list to contend with, missing Danilo Avelar, Alexander Farnerud, Alessandro Gazzi, Pontus Jansson, Joel Obi, Nikola Maksimovic and Josef Martinez.

Allegri took the bold decision to drop Cuadrado to the bench and hand a start to Hernanes, though the former would enter the game early in the first half following an injury to Sami Khedira.

Elsewhere for the hosts, Andrea Barzagli slid into central defence to cover for Giorgio Chiellini, with the latter suspended following his red card in the midweek loss to Sassuolo.

Just before the 20-minute mark, Juventus were in front.

Paulo Dybala allowed a pass from Cuadrado to run beyond him to Pogba, and the French midfielder fired a first time effort beyond Daniele Padelli into the back of the net.

It was a well-taken goal that saw Pogba begin to put his recent poor form behind him, and the strike marked Juve’s earliest goal of the season thus far, while providing the ideal way for the 22-year-old to mark his 100th Serie A appearance for the club.

Juventus dominated the rest of the of the first half, although Leonardo Bonucci had to be alert to block a good effort from Fabio Quagliarella just before the break, the former Juve striker having previously narrowly missed with an earlier attempt.

Torino returned for the second 45 minutes in much more determined fashion, earning a free-kick on the edge of the box shortly after the restart which helped pull them level.

Bovo saw his initial effort blocked, before following up with a left-footed shot that Juve goalkeeper Gigi Buffon was powerless to prevent.

Minutes later, the captain made a fine save from a Kamil Glik header, while both Pogba and Hernanes had long range shots for Juve which failed to find the target.

The game appeared to be petering out into a draw after Bonucci turned a free kick onto the crossbar and Claudio Marchisio saw his effort blocked from the rebound, but there was late drama to follow.

Pogba stole into the Torino area deep into injury time, and Cuadrado bundled it home on the goal line to clinch all three points.

Gigi Buffon dedicated the victory over Torino “to us, those who believe in us and the people who live Juve 365 days a year.”

The captain wrote a message on his Instagram page after the last-gasp 2-1 win in the Derby della Mole.

“This victory is for us… for those who believe in us and the people who live Juve 365 days a year and whose entire week is based on our result!!!

“Utmost respect for Toro, their players and fans who once again today made life very difficult and who return home with another atrocious defeat right at the death!!!

“But tonight was too important for our journey to think that the Gods of football, who want to be egotistical protagonists, could sit on one side and watch the spectacle without putting their hand in!!!”

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri told fans to enjoy their derby victory over local rivals Torino.

The Bianconeri left it late, with Paul Pogba and Juan Cuadrado scoring to cancel out Cesare Bovo’s goal.

“Torino played well, but to win you need luck and determination,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia in his post-match comments.

“I don’t think my players are nervous anymore, there is room for improvement but this is a step forward.”

Juventus will face Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday night in the Champions League and Empoli in Serie A next weekend.

“Our attention now turns to Tuesday night, we have to work hard and try to suffer less,” continued Allegri.

“The season is long, let’s enjoy this derby victory and look ahead to Tuesday.”

The derby win saw Juve go level with Torino on 15 points.

Juan Cuadrado: Torino win
could be turning point

Juventus match-winner Juan Cuadrado believes Saturday's 2-1 derby victory over Torino will mark a turning point in their season and spark the Bianconeri in their bid to retain the Serie A title.

Cuadrado, who replaced an injured Sami Khedira early in the first half, set up Paul Pogba for Juve's opener and, after Cesare Bovo had equalised for Torino, the Colombia international scored his first goal of the campaign right at the death to snatch a dramatic win.

"I'm happy with the result, especially for the team," Cuadrado said to Italian TV station Mediaset Premium. "I'm delighted with how we played.

"If we fight as we did today, then results will come our way."

Juve went into the encounter on the back of Wednesday's 1-0 defeat at Sassuolo, a fourth league loss that left them 11 points behind Serie A leaders Roma.

Saturday was a different story.

"We have to continue to show this will and this win should give us the motivation to believe in the Scudetto until the end," Cuadrado said. "We need to be united because we are a great team.

"From now on, every game will be a final."

Next up for Juve is a Champions League clash with Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany on Tuesday.

They will have an extra bounce in their step after winning the 'Derby della Mole.'

"This win represents three important points, a third consecutive victory at home and a step forward in the table," Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri told Sky Italia. "Now we have to focus on Tuesday and a decisive Champions League game with Borussia Monchengladbach."

Juve have taken seven points of a possible nine in Europe's top competition.

Allegri praised his team's determination but admitted Toro were worthy opponents.

"It was a balanced derby decided by that late chance, but you need determination to the very end in order to get a result like this," he said.

"Going into this game, we had 12 points after 10 rounds, so tension was only natural.

"The team reacted well, obviously we have to improve a lot, but this was a small step forward.

"Before the defeat to Sassuolo, we had also had three good games in a row."

Torino coach Giampiero Ventura could not hide his disappointment.

The Granata, who were ahead of Juve in the standings for the first time in 31 years 10 rounds into the Serie A campaign, were looking for their first win since September 27.

"We are really angry and disappointed," Ventura said to Sky Italia. "To give away a goal 10 seconds from time is something that really hurts.

"We didn't give much away and we played a good game.

"It's a pity but football is like this and better times will come.

"The team has grown a lot and I'm satisfied with the performance of my players, who came here determined to win."

Toro are 11th in the standings, level on 15 points with Juve, and host Inter Milan in the next round.
