Donadoni: Parma Were Helpless
Against A Strong Juventus

9gebrl.jpg

Nov 9, 2014

Parma coach Roberto Donadoni sympathised with his team after they lost 7-0 to champions Juventus.

The Crociati stay bottom of the table and have now conceded 28 goals in Serie A, by far the most in the league.

“The result is quick to shout out to you, we came up against a strong Juventus side and we never really took the field,” Donadoni told the press.

“There’s just a great sense of helplessness and shame after a game like that.

“I am more worried about the results in these matches than our place in the table as that is just a consequence of our results.”

Llorente: Juventus Could Play
Tevez, Morata And Me Together

2njhtth.jpg

Nov 9, 2014

Juventus forward Fernando Llorente believes that he, Carlos Tevez and Alvaro Morata could all play together following the Bianconeri’s 7-0 demolition of Parma.

The Old Lady brushed Parma a side with all three forwards scoring two goals each, with Stephan Lichtsteiner scoring one in a comfortable victory, which sees the Turin club remain on top of the Serie A standings.

“I am happy with the game as they had very few chances, while we made so many today,” the Spaniard told Rai Sport following the conclusion of the match.

“Tevez, Morata and me could all play up front together but you would need to ask the coach, we are all doing very well.

“I do not think about the national team any more.

“I had my opportunities but now I am no longer considered by the coach.

“I will take this opportunity to rest and focus my attention on Juventus.”

Juve 7-0 Parma: Seventh heaven for Juve as
Lichtsteiner and the strikers make Parma pay

Juventus dominated Parma to the tune of 7-0 in a rainy Juventus Stadium.

2910up5.jpg

Nov 9, 2014

On the 40th birthday of legendary former captain Alessandro Del Piero, Juventus welcomed Parma to Juventus Stadium. Four days after a vital Champions League win and missing several players through injury, the home side continued with Massimiliano Allegri's new-look 4-3-1-2 formation.

Though initially Juventus lacked a bit of fluidity, with Parma struggling to get hold of the ball or create any kind of chances it always seemed a matter of time for the home side. Three goals in 12 first-half minutes put an end to the match as a contest but the reshuffled Juventus lineup never took its foot off the gas, with four second-half goals making for a gaudy 7-0 final score.

After the first first must-win match of the campaign against Olympiacos, the only real risk was complacency against a Parma side that has conceded goals by the hatful. A steady November rain greeted the teams on Sunday afternoon, but neither the elements nor the long injury list slowed Juventus for long. Roberto Donadoni has begun to feel the pressure as his Parma remains mired in the relegation zone, and although nobody would blame him for losing in Turin, conceding seven will certainly increase the pressure on the former Italy coach.

Parma never really troubled the newly-assembled four-man backline, which marshalled Antonio Cassano well and forced the mercurial Italian to pick up possession far away from goal and with limited support. The Juventus midfield was very fluid, with Paul Pogba and Rômulo frequently running beyond the strikers while Carlos Tévez and Roberto Pereyra were happy to come deep and help with the buildup play. Parma were thoroughly overmatched in every department, and Juventus' strikers took full advantage with Fernando Llorente, Tévez, and Álvaro Morata each grabbing a brace.

In the end the game was even more comfortable than predicted for Juventus. The midweek exertions were barely noticed, and despite treating the second half much like a training session the goals kept pouring in Antonio Mirante's net. Now with two weeks off for an international break, the Old Lady will hope to recover names like Pirlo, Vidal, and Asamoah for Lazio and the vital Champions League game away to Malmö. While a 7-0 result is remarkable in it's own right, the fact that Juventus were able to achieve such dominance with a long injury list and with a new formation provides great optimism for the season ahead.

MATCH SUMMARY

The early stages were controlled by Juventus, with Parma resigned to hopeful counterattacks. Despite the control Juventus struggled to create good early chances, as the new-look lineup was perhaps too impatient in getting the ball forward. Lichtsteiner provided a sense of things to come when he easily beat De Ceglie and crossed for Pereyra, but the Argentine's acrobatic effort went wide of the post.

Marchisio and Tévez had early efforts from range, but Juventus had trouble getting into the box for the first twenty minutes or so, with the team often hitting long balls to Pogba along the left flank. Parma even created a chance on 23 minutes when Afriyie Acquah and Abdelkader Ghezzal found space in front of the Juventus defense, but the Algerian's shot flew well over. From the resulting goal kick, Juventus got their first. Rômulo played a ball over the top looking for Tévez that was cut out, but only as far as Paul Pogba. The French international's thunderous shot was parried straight to Llorente, who finished confidently.

Parma had perhaps their best chance of the game minutes later, as Cassano fed Stefano Mauri for a shot from the edge of the box, but Gianluigi Buffon was alert to push the ball wide of the post. It only took until the 29th minute for the second to arrive, as Parma stuggled to clear their lines effectively. Tévez' shot-cross was blocked but fell kindly for Stephan Lichtsteiner and the Swiss Express scored one of the goals of his career, a sweet outswinging strike that went off the post and in.

It only took seven more minutes for the 3-0 to arrive, with Tévez and Lichtsteiner involved again. Rômulo surged upfield and fed Tévez, who played in Lichtsteiner. The fullback had time and space to pick out a cross, which Llorente tapped home. Mirante had justifiable complaints about the position of Rômulo, but he was never going to make the save.

The second half started with another half-chance for Parma, as Pogba's pass went straight to Ghezzal who eventually fired high and wide. But soon Juventus had the ball in the net again, and it was a signature goal from Carlitos Tévez. A defensive clearance came to the Argentine well inside his own half, and he was off to the races, shrugging off Andrea Costa and gliding past Alessandro Lucarelli and Felipe before beating Mirante. It was a wonderful solo goal, and just reward for the Argentine who scored his first goal since the 3-2 victory over Roma.

It only took eight minutes for El Apache to complete his brace. Pogba again tried his luck from distance, and again the shot forced Mirante to concede a dangerous rebound. Tévez was on hand this time to make it 5-0.

With the game well in hand, Tévez and Llorente made way for youngsters Kingsley Coman and Álvaro Morata. Not to be left out, in the 76th minute the new arrivals combined for the sixth. Coman dropped deep to the left side to pick up possession and run at the defense before clipping a lovely ball over the defense for Morata to tap in.

The French youth international was creating havoc, nearly creating another by beating his man and putting a killer ball across the box, but Pogba was slow to react. But soon after the seventh goal did arrive, and it was Lichtsteiner again creating the chance. The right back won a 50/50 ball and crossed for Morata, who adjusted his body well to volley in. 7-0 is perhaps an exaggerated scoreline, but Parma's dire defending combined with a welcome return to form for the Bianconero strikeforce made it a day to remember.

LE PAGELLE

Buffon: 6
Only really troubled once, the veteran netminder will be all smiles on his way to meet up with his national teammates in Coverciano.

Lichtsteiner: 8 Rarely does a fullback have this much influence on a game. The Swiss Express dominated his flank, putting in dangerous crosses for two assists and scoring a wonderful goal of his own.

Bonucci: 6 It was an easy day for the Juventus backline, who controlled the box and kept Cassano far away from goal.

Chiellini: 6 Like his partner at the back, Giorgio will have much more difficult days to come. Contributed to Tévez' first with a sliding defensive clearance that turned into an assist.

Padoin: 6 While not as influential as Lichtsteiner on the other side, Padoin showed his versatility and reliability by filling in for the injured Asamoah and Evra at left back.

Marchisio: 6.5 Always alert to cover for his teammates, Il Principino kept things ticking over in midfield and had a few shots of his own.

Romulo: 6 Another called in to deputize, the Brazilian ran all day. Often sitting next to Marchisio in deeper midfield, the former Verona and Fiorentina utility man did everything asked of him.

Pogba: 6 Contributed to two goals with powerful strikes from outside the box, but was lucky not to be punished for a sloppy giveaway early in the second half.

Pereyra: 6 The Argentine played behind the strikers, but was often seen pulling wide. His movement was more influential than his technique, but the strikers ahead more than made up for it.

Tévez: 8 While in the first half he looked a tad desperate, in the second everything came off for the man from Fuerte Apache. Always available for his teammates, the returning Argentine international showed he can score them all, whether running from his own half or reacting quickest to a loose ball in the box.

Llorente: 7.5 Finally off the mark in Serie A, the Basque striker took his season tally to 3 with two well-taken poacher's goals.

Substitutes:

Coman: 6.5
The young Frenchman picked up where Tévez left off, terrifying the Parma defense with his pace and trickery. Played a lovely pass over the top for Morata's first.

Morata: 7 Newly called up for Spain, the striker found plenty of space between Parma's back three and made it pay with two goals.

Mattiello: N/A Brought on for Marchisio with 10 minutes to go, the youngster filled in at left back bringing Padoin into midfield.

Allegri: 7 Everything fell into place for Juventus today, and Allegri deserves credit for getting such a resounding performance out of a changed side. His switch to a back four has coincided with two wins in a row, and while there will be much more demanding opponents than Parma, today Allegri will live up to his name.

Lucarelli: 'Parma apologise'

1ze9fsn.jpg

Nov 9, 2014

Parma captain Alessandro Lucarelli apologised to fans after an historic 7-0 defeat to Juventus. “We are ashamed.”

The Ducali had never previously lost in Serie A by more than a five-goal margin.

“There is little to analyse. The only thing we can do today is apologise for the terrible embarrassment,” said Lucarelli.

“It is the only think we can do to maintain some dignity. The only thing I feel ready to say, on behalf of the whole team, is that we apologise to our fans and to everyone, including the President, the general manager, the Coach and our family, because this is unacceptable.

“You can lose to Juventus, but not like this. We can only take the blame and leave with heads bowed. In my career I have never been so ashamed to leave the pitch as I was today. I’d never been humiliated like that.

“We lost confidence and when you lose intensity against a team like Juventus, they don’t let up. We conceded one, two, three goals without ever coming out of our own half.

“We knew it would be tough to come here and get a result, but today we didn’t have the right determination to spit blood to the end, to at least try to respond.”

After this hammering and with Parma losing nine of their 11 games this season, is Coach Roberto Donadoni at risk?

“The locker room was absolutely silent. We all put ourselves at risk, so the players take responsibility for this defeat.”

TEAM RATINGS

k2da8o.jpg

Nov 9, 2014

Juventus

1 G. Buffon - Made a great full-stretch save to deny Acquah in the first half but was otherwise a spectator.

26 S. Lichtsteiner - Fired home an exquisite effort from 25 yards to make it two for Juve and whipped in excellent deliveries from the right throughout.

19 L. Bonucci - Composed in and around his own penalty area, and strong aerially.

3 G. Chiellini - Strong aerial presence in both boxes and was very comfortable in possession.

20 S. Padoin - Filled in at left-back and didn't look out of place. Battled and showed real work rate, though his set pieces weren't great.

8 C. Marchisio - Another engine in the Juve midfield, the Italy international wasn't afraid to shoot or distribute crossfield balls.

2 Rômulo - Provided an engine in midfield and kept play ticking over.

6 P. Pogba - Full of running down the left-hand side and showed some nice touches. A constant threat in and around the penalty area, but spurned a late opportunity.

37 R. Pereyra - Dangerous in and around the box, but wasn't able to turn any half chances into testing the goalkeeper.

10 C. Tévez - Frustrating before the break but was excellent afterwards, turning home a smart strike and capping his outing with a brilliant run and finish.

14 Llorente - Fired home two first-half efforts to set Juve on their way, tucking home clinically from limited chances. A strong performance as the hosts' focal point.

Substitutes

11 K. Coman
- Bright in the late stages, clipping through a brilliant assist for one of Morata's goals.

9 Álvaro Morata - Stroked home one finish, before cushioning a beautiful volley into the far corner to grab his second.

Parma

83 A. Mirante - Gifted Juve two goals with some terrible saves in a very forgettable afternoon for the visitors' goalkeeper.

19 Felipe - Stepped out to make a couple of good interceptions, but struggled against the relentless pressure of the Bianconeri.

6 A. Lucarelli - Didn't marshal his defensive line too well, playing Llorente onside occasionally.

15 A. Costa - Made one good challenge but otherwise chased shadows like the rest of his fellow defenders

33 A. Rispoli - Struggled defensively and wasn't able to break upfield often to support any Parma attacks.

30 A. Acquah - Went closest to scoring with a long-range drive denied by Buffon and was physical in midfield.

8 J. Mauri - Sat in front of the back four and worked hard to break up play, but couldn't offer anything forward-thinking.

21 F. Lodi - His set pieces weren't great, with the former Catania midfielder unable to set away any Parma breaks from deep.

11 P. De Ceglie - First player to be sacrificed, with the former Juve full-back failing to replicate his two-goal performance against Inter.

99 A. Cassano - A very quiet afternoon for the ex-Italy international, who received extremely rare service.

5 A. Ghezzal - Broke away a couple of times in the very early stages, but faded quickly.

Substitutes

18 M. Gobbi
- Delivered one cross from the left-hand side, which was claimed easily by Buffon.

31 M. Mariga - X

10 I. Belfodil - Introduced as Parma searched for a goal, but offered absolutely nothing.

Juventus vs. Parma: Winners
and Losers from Serie A Game

68g3nq.jpg

Nov 9, 2014

Parma travelled to Juventus Stadium for the third time on Sunday, fully aware they had lost on each previous visit. Having been defeated 4-1 in the competitive debut of Juve’s state-of-the-art home, Roberto Donadoni’s men knew they would face another arduous afternoon against the Bianconeri.

“Juve are the strongest team in Serie A and we must go to Turin with a great performance,” the coach told reporters at his pre-match press conference, per Football Italia. While the recent form of the reigning champions had been cause for concern, no club has suffered as much as Parma this term.

The Ducali enjoyed a successful 2013-14, finishing in sixth place in Serie A and securing qualification for the Europa League. However, failure to pay taxes amounting to approximately €300,000 saw their place handed to Torino, per ESPN, and the current season has seen them struggle significantly.

With a number of key players—including Jonathan Biabiany, Mattia Cassani and Gabriel Paletta—missing, they had won just two of their opening 10 games of the campaign.

Having won against both Empoli and Olympiacos last week, Juventus would add yet another victory, running out emphatic winners in a 7-0 rout.

The following pages contain a glimpse of the winners and losers from this encounter. Take a look at the best and worst individual displays from this afternoon.

Winner: Carlos Tevez (Juventus)

After beginning the season in impeccable form, Carlos Tevez had struggled in recent weeks, failing to build on his tally of eight goals in his first eight appearances. After enduring six games in which he had not found the back of the net, the 30-year-old struck twice against Parma.

“We’ve been wasting a lot of opportunities recently,” Tevez said to Mediaset after the game (h/t Football Italia). “So we made up for it today and we[re] perfect in front of goal.” Having also earned a recall to the Argentina squad after a three-year absence, the striker can enter the international break filled with confidence.

Winner: Massimiliano Allegri (Juventus)

While the lack of fight from Parma can be debated, it is impossible to argue that the result was hugely important to Massimiliano Allegri. The Juventus coach once again opted to field his troops in a 4-3-1-2 formation, overcoming a number of key absences on the way to a convincing victory.

With Andrea Pirlo joining the suspended Arturo Vidal on the sidelines, Juventus still dominated the game—and Allegri deserves huge praise for his decisions.

Winner: Fernando Llorente (Juventus)

Even though Tevez rediscovered his scoring form, the match was even more significant for Fernando Llorente. The Spanish striker has struggled this term, yet found the back of the net twice this afternoon in an impressive display.

Winner: Alvaro Morata (Juventus)

Despite being dropped to the bench in favour of Llorente, Alvaro Morata seized his opportunity against a struggling Parma. Introduced in the 70th minute, the 22-year-old netted twice to reinforce the excellent form he has displayed of late.

The Real Madrid youth product has been rewarded with a call-up to the Spanish national squad for their matches next week.

Loser: Roberto Donadoni (Parma)

After a season in which they qualified for Europe, it is difficult to see a more underperforming side than Parma this term. The Ducali finished sixth last year, yet they are now rooted to the bottom of the table (having lost nine of their 11 games thus far).

Roberto Donadoni is undoubtedly under pressure, as the coach has been unable to inspire his side as they limp to a string of defeats. “There is just a sense of impotence and shame after a game like that,” he told RAI immediately after the final whistle (h/t Football Italia), summing up a disappointing afternoon.

Juventus impress in rout of Parma
as Allegri gets comfortable in charge

14wftxj.jpg

Nov 9, 2014

On Alessandro Del Piero's 40th birthday, Juventus rediscovered their efficiency against Parma, winning 7-0 at home to send a clear signal to their challengers. The last time the Old Lady managed such a score-line was 31 years ago, in 1983.

Deployed in a 4-3-2-1 formation, they played with Antonio Conte's intensity and Massimiliano Allegri's tactical intelligence, exploiting space, stretching the field and making the most of Parma's ineptitude at the back. The Gialloblu have never conceded more than five goals in Serie A but today a record was broken as the visitors played the kind of game that perfectly explained why they have the worst defensive record in Serie A. Unorganised, inattentive and overwhelmed, Juve's sheer fluidity and freedom going forward was simply too much for them to contain.

This was not the Bianconeri's best line-up but it didn't need to be. The interpretation of the "Christmas tree formation" encouraged runs from midfield, with plenty of lateral cover and the ability to overwhelm. There were simply too many bodies venturing forward that players like Stephan Lichtsteiner were barely tracked, leaving the wing-back to enjoy the game of his life as he scored and created on a perfect afternoon for the Italian champions.

In essence, the Ducali made life very easy for the Old Lady. With absolutely no resistance from midfield and no player capable of pressing or closing down the opponent, Juventus penetrated the final third with ease. Despite the fact that Parma regularly had plenty of men at the back, their naivety meant they all occupied the central area, almost in a cluster, allowing the Old Lady to enjoy time and space in the wide areas as they fell deeper and deeper -- this was especially true of Juve's third goal.

Even when Parma managed to gain possession they were quick to concede it, inaccuracy ruining their attacking game plan. In truth, had their midfield been able to control the game somewhat better, they may have indeed scored a goal in the first half considering the pace they boast and the intelligent movement of Antonio Cassano going forward. After all, Juventus have yet to find total tactical balance in this formation, at times ceding too much space to the opponent.

However, with Gianluigi Buffon available to make a good save and an attacking philosophy that barely allowed the visitors to breathe, Juventus were always going to enjoy themselves in this match.

Fernando Llorente seems to have recovered his confidence. Having already opened his goalscoring account this season, he notched Juve's first on the day before managing another. However, it was Carlos Tevez' goal that deserved a thousand compliments at the start of the second half. Demonstrating hunger, technique and impressive strength, he grabbed possession, dribbled all the way from his own half and beat three men to score a magnificent goal -- Juve's fourth on the day. The home fans were on their feet applauding the Argentine's majesty, grateful that the man who donned the no.10 shirt after Ale also possesses wicked skill on the ball.

The maestro eventually made way for Kingsley Coman before Llorente came off for Alvaro Morata -- another impressive forward who managed to grab a brace in the game.

In truth, there is little to learn from matches such as Sunday's. Parma simply didn't show up nor were they good enough on the day to contain the pressure. However, such a clinical demonstration will hopefully encourage Allegri to deploy more courageous formations in Serie A and beyond, especially against sides that aren't expected to attack ferociously.

The change in shape not only allowed the Bianconeri to truly enjoy the game and the freedom to surge ahead but it allowed for greater efficiency in front of goal. Well done to the coach -- he seems to finally be transmitting his own ideals to the club and ensured a motivated performance from a squad that had played a tough game in Europe midweek.

Carlos Tevez says Maradona-style
goal against Parma was planned

ao94pj.jpg

Nov 9, 2014

Juventus forward Carlos Tevez said he knew exactly what he was doing as he scored his version of Diego Maradona's 1986 World Cup goal against England on Sunday afternoon at home to Parma.

Tevez, 30, had the whole Juventus Stadium on their feet applauding an excellent goal which he said afterwards was "all planned."

Few supporters could have predicted what was to come when the forward, who returns to international duty with Argentina for the first time in nearly three-and-a-half years this week, picked up the ball 10 yards inside his own half.

"I knew that I just had to free myself from my marker," Tevez told Sky Sport Italia. "Then I just had to win another one-on-one and shift the ball to the right. I knew which way to send it past the goalkeeper because I was coming so fast at him that he had no chance of diving. It was all planned.

"It's been a beautiful week for me and returning to the national team now is my reward."

The standing ovation for Tevez's strike continued to sound around the stadium, almost right up until the moment he added his second (and Juve's fifth) eight minutes later in a comprehensive 7-0 win which cemented the Bianconeri's place at the summit of Serie A.

"It was a great game from the lads," Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri told the club's official website. "Tevez's goal was extraordinary, both in technical terms and for the character he showed.

"He needed that because he's not scored for a while now, but he's an example for the way he works hard in training and this is the best way for him to celebrate a thoroughly deserved call-up to the national team."

Tevez's brace means he has now scored eight goals in 10 Serie A games this season, and 10 from 14 in all competitions.

Does something look familiar?

There was a feeling of déjà vu in Week 11 after wins for Juventus, Roma
and Napoli saw the top three take a familiar order, writes Alasdair Mackenzie.

2ni8ke8.jpg

Nov 10, 2014

Things had looked so promising before the season started. The Antonio Conte era had ended at Juventus, Milan and Inter had revamped their squads and the likes of Lazio and Fiorentina were looking decent outside bets for a Champions League spot.

Yet after a slow start, the top three has returned to the way it was for so long last season. Juventus top, Roma second and Napoli third. There remains a long way to go, but neutrals will be hoping against all hope that there will be more twists and turns as the season progresses.

For Juventus, their seven-goal hammering of Parma went some way to silencing the criticisms that they are a toothless side going forward, as the unfortunate Gialloblu became the guinea pigs for an exhibition of Max Allegri’s attacking vision.

Two goals for Carlos Tevez were perhaps the least surprising as he has been the Old Lady’s most consistent forward. But his first, for which he picked the ball up in his own half and went past three Parma defenders before finishing coolly, was a reminder of the individual brilliance he is capable of. Albeit with the help of some catastrophic defending.

But it was the doubles from Fernando Llorente and Alvaro Morata that will give Allegri his biggest boost. The Spaniards have struggled to make an impact so far this season, only managing three League goals between them before the Parma match, but confident finishes from both of them will certainly help their confidence going forward. Given Morata’s hefty price-tag of €20m, he is unlikely to be awarded as long a settling-in period as his compatriot by the fans, who will be looking for him to deliver consistently from now on.

Napoli’s slow start was in a large part down to the poor form of their key players from last season, particularly Marek Hamsik and Gonzalo Higuain. But Higuain’s return to form along with Jose Callejon’s Capocannoniere-contending start has lifted them back into the top three after an unbeaten run that stretches back to September 21.

Higuain was at the centre of everything good for Rafa Benitez’s side during their tight 1-0 win away to Fiorentina yesterday. The Argentine created chances for himself, saw an explosive overhead finish chalked off for offside and finally pounced on a loose ball from 10 yards to give his side the vital goal.

Meanwhile, Roma’s 3-0 win over Torino was a demonstration of their ability to comfortably win games without relying on the goals of a recognised No 9 like Higuain. In fact, their centre-forwards Francesco Totti and Mattia Destro have only amassed six of their team’s 19 goals between them.

This time it was goals from Vasilis Torosidis, Seydou Keita and Adam Ljajic that gave them the three points and further evidence of Rudi Garcia’s positive brand of football paying dividends, given that neither of the first two are known for their goalscoring exploits.

Elsewhere, it was a big chance missed for Lazio, who fell to a shock 2-1 defeat in Empoli in a game that could have seen them take third place for themselves. Pioli raged after the match at two avoidable goals from set-pieces, but Filip Djordjevic was again on target for the Biancocelesti.

Not much luck again for the San Siro sides, as both Milan and Inter were held to 2-2 draws. Milan celebrated Stephan El Shaarawy’s first League goal since February 2013, but Sampdoria showed classic Sinisa Mihajlovic-instilled fighting spirit to come back from one down and go in front thanks to goals from Stefano Okaka and Eder before a penalty from Jeremy Menez levelled the score.

Things could’ve been worse for Inter, who thanked Samir Handanovic for his third penalty save from three this season to take a point from their match against Verona, as Walter Mazzarri’s struggles continue.

Juve’s magnificent seven

Despite being rocked by injury, Juventus found their groove as they carved up
Parma on Sunday. Luca Cetta wraps up the action from the 7-0 mauling.

Nov 10, 2014

Juventus may look back at last Wednesday’s comeback win against Olympiacos as a turning point. Suffering a poor run of results in October, they needed November to start on the right foot and Paul Pogba’s goal did just that.

It was a significant win not only for Champions League qualification aspirations, but for Massimiliano Allegri to put his stamp on the team. He had experimented with a four man defence in pre-season but largely stuck to Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 – with his own twist on the style. But in moving to a 4-3-1-2 on Wednesday the team looked rejuvenated.

The Coach kept the premise of that system as Parma visited Juventus Stadium on Sunday in another rain-soaked contest. The midweek defensive struggles did not surface as the Gialloblu offered little in attack. Instead they were put to the sword by a rampant and vibrant Juve which hardly put a foot wrong in 90 minutes of domination.

Parma had ended their long-standing losing streak against Inter and Allegri warned his side to be wary. Especially given the number of absentees – Andrea Pirlo, Kwadwo Asamoah, Andrea Barzagli, Patrice Evra, Martin Caceres, Luca Marrone and the suspended Arturo Vidal all sat out.

But those who took over did so with assurance, the test of depth passed with flying colours. Roberto Pereyra gave balance alongside Carlos Tevez as one of the two deeper attackers and often made forays into dangerous positions. Romulo and Simone Padoin – both making their first starts of the season – showed Allegri they can do a job when called upon. The Italo-Brazilian alternated well with Pogba and kept possession ticking over, while Padoin was chosen ahead of Angelo Ogbonna at left-back and bombed forward effectively, even grabbing an assist.

Manning the right flank, Stephan Lichtsteiner was a standout. His well-taken goal was the topping on a fine performance at right-back. The Swiss Express was full of steam in a role which suits him better than a wing-back role. With more room to utilise Lichtsteiner took advantage, his four crosses up on his season average and he ended with two assists in addition to the goal. With contract extension negotiations ongoing it was a reminder of what he offers.

As he did earlier in the season, Claudio Marchisio played the pivot role in midfield with confidence. He provides a viable alternative to Pirlo and on Sunday was second only to Leonardo Bonucci in the number of passes made, but completed more than anybody on the pitch. Both were up on his season average.

The strikers all impressed on a day when Serie A’s worst defence endured a torrid time. Sunday’s Tuttosport highlighted Allegri’s disappointment Juve were taking eight chances to score a goal and that wastefulness had haunted recently, but Fernando Llorente got the ball rolling with two well-taken finishes signifying a man in a positive mood. Ending his drought, Tevez returns to international duty with Argentina buoyant following a second half brace – his first a wonderful individual effort. Alvaro Morata then celebrated his maiden call-up to the Spain squad by smashing Parma’s crushed spirits further into the turf.

There was even time for substitute Kingsley Coman to have an impact and then for Federico Mattiello to make his debut. Even with numerous injuries Juventus have depth and dangerous players waiting for an opportunity.

And when the Bianconeri play with such confidence, it will take something special to stop them. It’s too early to say whether this system suits Juve to a greater degree, after all Parma are a shadow of their 2013-14 best and Olympiacos posed problems in midweek. Furthermore, Allegri says it will come down to a game-by-game basis. But he has unleashed another weapon in the armoury and as Sunday showed, has a number of players able to execute.

Lazio-Juventus Preview:
Marchisio wary of Olimpico 'trap'

The Italian champions have recovered well from the shock of losing their first game
of the Serie A season last month but are going up against a side with a fine home record.

Nov 21, 2014

Juventus are ready for an intimidating atmosphere when they travel to the Stadio Olimpico to face Lazio on Saturday.

Serie A champions Juve overcame the disappointment of suffering a first league defeat since March at Genoa last month by bouncing back with back-to-back victories.

Massimiliano Allegri's side claimed a routine 2-0 win at Empoli before thrashing Parma 7-0 last time out.

However, Juve midfielder Claudio Marchisio is wary of the threat posed by a Lazio team who are in good form themselves having lost just one of their last seven Serie A fixtures.

"Is the challenge of Olimpico a trap? Yes it's true, and then after the international break it's always very difficult, regardless of your opponents," Marchisio told Il Messaggero.

"You never know how to return from international duty.

"It will be a tough away match, Lazio can hurt us. We will find ourselves in a tough environment, against a great team who are tough, competitive, well-trained and are doing very well.

"We aren't just going on a trip, we want the three points."

Lazio will undoubtedly hope that Juve have one eye on next week's crucial Champions League meeting with Malmo, with the Turin's club's hopes of reaching the last 16 of Europe's premier club competition hanging in the balance.

Juve have not lost at Lazio on their last nine Serie A visits to the OIimpico, though, but did need a Fernando Llorente equaliser to snatch a point after Gianluigi Buffon had been sent off in the corresponding fixture last season.

Since that game in January, Lazio have lost just two home league matches.

And while forward Filip Djordjevic knows they face a tough task this weekend, he is keen to continue that impressive run.

"They [Juventus' players] are all quality players," he told Sky Sport Italia. "They are the best in Italy and we are motivated to do well.

"It is a tough game, but we want to win because we are at home."

Juve will hope to have Andrea Pirlo and Angelo Ogbonna back after the duo sustained injuries during the international break, while Kwadwo Asamoah and Patrice Evra are close to full recovery after knee and thigh issues.

Lazio coach Stefano Pioli, meanwhile, is boosted by the return of Stefan Radu.

MATCH PREVIEW

Nov 21, 2014

Following the international break, Lazio will hope to get back to winning ways as they welcome reigning Scudetto champions Juventus to the Stadio Olimpico.

The Biancocelesti under Stefano Pioli have put in some solid showings so far this season and currently rest in fifth place—just two behind third-placed Napoli who presently occupy the last Champions League berth. Whilst the season’s conclusion is a distant concept, Fabrizio Ravanelli, who played for both sides, is still confident in the hosts’ chances to finish third.

“It is true that Juventus are the strongest team in Italy, but Lazio are a good team [who can] beat them if they do things right. [And] if they had a charismatic leader, an [Alessandro] Nesta type in defence they could challenge both Juve and Roma for the title,” he recently opined in an interview.

Bold words, perhaps, but Juventus, despite again leading the League, have shown that they are not unbeatable, especially away from home.

Pioli, though, will be concerned over the fitness of defenders Michael Ciani and Edson Braafheid, both of whom had to stop training after suffering injuries. Meanwhile, captain Stefano Mauri is still battling a nasty throat infection and may not still be well enough to feature, let alone make the bench.

Although Lazio’s last win against Juventus was in December 2003, Bianconeri Coach Massimiliano Allegri will still field a strong line-up with their opponents’ rivals, Roma, breathing down their necks only three points behind. Moreover, the Scudetto holders did struggle last season in this same fixture and needed a goal from Fernando Llorente in order to depart the capital with a draw.

Still, the former Milan tactician will be pleased at the possible return of Andrea Pirlo after the veteran’s injury lay-off and viewers should also expect him to modify the previously used 3-5-2 line-up into a more conventional four-ban back-line.

Keep an eye on: Antonio Candreva (Lazio) - The Rome-born attacker scored a great goal - his first - for Italy this past weekend against Croatia. His speed, trickery and rocket-shot from distance could cause trouble for the visitors’ back-line and he has also started to form a good understanding with the team’s top scorer, Filip Djordjevic.

Nov 22, 2014

Serie A leaders Juventus visit fifth-placed Lazio with Andrea Pirlo starting, but there’s an 11-year taboo around this fixture.

It kicks off at 20.45 CET.

Lazio have not beaten the Bianconeri – home or away – in their last 19 League meetings, going back to December 2003.

The last nine visits to the Olimpico have seen them pick up just three draws.

Juve go into this game without Andrea Barzagli, Angelo Ogbonna, Patrice Evra, Martin Caceres, Kwadwo Asamoah and Luca Marrone.

Pirlo returns to the starting XI with Roberto Pereyra in a trequartista role, as Max Allegri sticks with his new Christmas Tree system.

Lazio are without Michael Ciani, Stefano Mauri, Bruno Pereirinha, Diego Novaretti and Santiago Gentiletti.

Talented teenager Keita Balde Diao has recovered from injury – and a car crash – to start with Miroslav Klose and Antonio Candreva.

HT 0-1: Pogba marches on Lazio

Nov 22, 2014

Paul Pogba’s classic counter-attack has given Juventus the half-time lead away to fifth-placed Lazio.

The Bianconeri again used the Christmas Tree formation with Carlos Tevez and Roberto Pereyra in supporting roles, but welcomed back Andrea Pirlo. Andrea Barzagli, Angelo Ogbonna, Patrice Evra, Martin Caceres, Kwadwo Asamoah and Luca Marrone were out injured. Lazio missed Michael Ciani, Stefano Mauri, Bruno Pereirinha, Diego Novaretti and Santiago Gentiletti, though Keita Balde Diao was finally fit again and Miroslav Klose was picked ahead of Filip Djordjevic.

Stefan de Vrij, Carlos Tevez and Antonio Candreva had early efforts not far off target, while De Vrij performed a crucial sliding tackle to stop Tevez shooting from nine yards.

Juve broke the deadlock with a classic counter-attack, as Tevez switched the play for Paul Pogba, who kept his cool to drill in from the edge of the box.

Pogba almost had a magical second, as his curler left Federico Marchetti stranded, but smacked against the top of the far post. That goal completely changed the game, as Lazio seemed to lose confidence and intensity.

Gigi Buffon needed two attempts to get a powerful Antonio Candreva free kick under control, while Keita volleyed over from close range.

Lazio 0-3 Juventus: Pogba at the double
as Bianconeri blitz Biancocelesti

The Frenchman scored twice either side of another goal from Carlos Tevez as the reigning
Italian champions cruised to victory - despite the late dismissal of Simone Padoin.

Nov 22, 2014

Paul Pogba netted twice as 10-man Juventus restored their three-point lead at the top of Serie A with a 3-0 win at Lazio on Saturday night.

Two goals from Paul Pogba - either side of one for Carlos Tevez - completed a routine triumph in at the Stadio Olimpico and the result means Juve have now gone 20 Serie A matches without losing against the side from the Italian capital.

The win restored the champions' three-point lead at the top of the table, after Roma had moved level with them thanks to a 2-1 victory at Atalanta earlier in the day.

Juventus were comfortably the better side throughout and never looked like relinquishing their advantage after Pogba's composed strike gave them the edge.

Tevez's goal - his ninth in the league this season - came early in the second period as Juve assumed complete control, which was underlined when Pogba tucked home his second in the 64th minute.

There was one sour note for the visitors when Simone Padoin was shown a second yellow card for a block on Antonio Candreva 20 minutes from time, but it did little to affect the outcome as Massimiliano Allegri's side managed comfortably being a man down.

Following an uneventful opening to the game, Juve broke the deadlock midway through the half thanks to a devastating counter-attack.

Juve broke through Tevez after clearing a Lazio free-kick and his lofted pass was deftly controlled by Pogba, who slotted a cool finish beyond Federico Marchetti.

The France international almost doubled his tally in the 29th minute, but his curled effort from the left-hand corner of the box struck the outside of the post with Marchetti well beaten.

Gianluigi Buffon was tested for the first time eight minutes prior to the interval when the goalkeeper gathered Candreva's awkward bouncing free-kick at the second attempt.

Juve continued to assert their dominance after the break and doubled their advantage in the 55th minute through Tevez's well-taken strike.

Claudio Marchisio broke forward and, with Lazio exposed at the back, slipped a pass to the Argentine, who took a touch before planting a low finish into the bottom left-hand corner.

Candreva attempted to drag his side back into the match, but once again Buffon proved equal to his rasping drive from distance.

Any hopes of an unlikely comeback were quickly dashed, however, as Pogba slotted in a low finish following a sublime reverse ball from Roberto Pereyra.

Padoin, who had been booked in the first half for handball, was then dismissed, but the visitors continued to look the more threatening.

Federico Mattiello, introduced in place of Pereyra in the wake of Padoin's sending off, brought a flying save out of Marchetti as Juve cruised to a fourth successive win in all competitions.

Pogba double dooms Lazio

Paul Pogba’s brace and Carlos Tevez allowed 10-man Juventus to thump Lazio 3-0 at the Olimpico.

Nov 22, 2014

This means Juve are unbeaten in 20 Serie A meetings with the Aquile, home and away, since December 2003.

Juve doubled their advantage after the restart, as Lorik Cana’s error sparked a counter with Claudio Marchisio setting up unmarked Tevez on the edge of the box. It was the Apache’s ninth goal in the last 10 Serie A games.

Candreva stung Buffon’s gloves, but Pogba added a third when Pirlo and Pereyra combined to thread through and he side-footed the finish under Marchetti. The 21-year-old feinted a shot across the goalkeeper, but then put it near post instead.

Juventus went down to 10 men for the final 20 minutes, as Simone Padoin received his second yellow card for a mistimed block on Candreva.

Buffon spilled another missile of a Candreva free kick and it almost squirmed over the line. Federico Mattiello came off the bench for his second Serie A appearance and within a few minutes the 19-year-old had forced Marchetti to palm his screamer out from under the bar.

Felipe Anderson tried to get one back late on when dribbling between Arturo Vidal and Stephan Lichtsteiner, but found Buffon alert from close range.

Lazio 0-3 Juventus: Prodigal Pogba
Punishes Biancocelesti

5x8y9e.jpg

Nov 22, 2014

Juventus easily swept past Lazio with a 3-0 victory in Serie A action at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday night.

Goals on either side of the half from Paul Pogba were split by Carlos Tevez’s ninth goal of the season, while Simone Padoin was sent off late in a match that secured Juventus remain three points ahead of second place Roma.

The Biancocelesti had the first chance of the match in the 17th minute when Keita Balde Diao’s lateral pass found Antonio Candreva just outside the area, but the Italians placed right footed shot went just wide of goal.

It was the away side who opened the scoring when Tevez’ superb through ball to Pogba found the Frenchman on the counter, before easily slotting past Federico Marchetti to give the Bianconeri the 1-0 lead in the 24th minute.

The Bianconeri nearly doubled their lead in the 29th minute as Pogba found space down the left before cutting in and sending his curling effort past a helpless Marchetti but off the far post.

Candreva responded in the 37th minute when his free kick from distance was saved low by Gianluigi Buffon, with the Italian covering the rebound.

The away side doubled their lead in the 55th minute after another splendid counter. This time it was Claudio Marchisio who raced down the field and found an unmarked Tevez outside the penalty area, with the Argentine coolly sending his effort past a diving Marchetti to make it 2-0.

Lazio showed timid signs of response when Candreva unleashed a left footed effort from 30 metres out, but Buffon alertly pushed the ball out for a corner kick.

Juve all but wrapped things up in the 64th minute with Pogba bagging his brace to make it 3-0. Roberto Pereyra turned outside the penalty area and found the young Frenchman all alone as he slotted home after waiting for Marchetti to drop to the ground.

It wasn’t all positives for Massimiliano Allegri’s side however as they were reduced to 10 men when Padoin was sent off for his second yellow card of the match after fouling Candreva soon after.

The Lazio midfielder once again attempted to get his name on the scoresheet from a free kick. His long range effort was spilled by Buffon, but play was halted for a foul by Filip Djordjevic on Giorgio Chiellini in the 72nd minute.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Juve continued to push forward as second half substitute Federico Mattiello’s left footed strike forced a great save out of Marchetti in the 75th minute.

Felipe Anderson’s name was next on the list to try and break Buffon’s cleansheet, but after dribbling past two Juve defenders, the Italian goalkeeper punched away the Brazilian’s effort to keep the score at 3-0 and send the Bianconeri home with all three points.

Paul Pogba bags brace as
Juventus sweep aside Lazio

Nov 22, 2014

Paul Pogba struck twice as Juventus continued their dominance at Lazio and moved three points clear at the top of Serie A on Saturday evening.

Lazio, who have not beaten Juve at home since 2004, struggled against the current champions.

Pogba put Juve on their way in the 24th minute before Carlos Tevez made it 2-0 10 minutes into the second half.

Frenchman Pogba got his second nine minutes later to complete the convincing away win at the Stadio Olimpico.

Juve had Simone Padoin sent off in the 70th minute for a double booking but despite playing with only 10 men, the Bianconeri kept a clean sheet.

The 10th win of the campaign has given Juve a three-point cushion on Roma, whose 2-1 victory at Atalanta earlier in the day briefly put them level on points with the defending champions at the top of the table.

A fifth defeat of the season for Lazio has denied the Romans a chance to climb into third place.

Instead, they have remained in fifth spot but could fall further down the table by the end of the weekend.

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and defender Giorgio Chiellini went into the encounter with an extra bounce in their step after signing new deals with the Turin giants earlier this week.

Lazio dominated the early exchanges and had the first chance in the 11th minute when Stefan de Vrij's header from Lucas Biglia's cross went over the bar.

Shortly after, Antonio Candreva's drilled effort from the edge of the box went just wide of the far post.

Juve went in front when Tevez set up Pogba in the area and the ex-Manchester United player hit a right-footed shot towards the near post to beat Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.

Pogba continued to threaten and in the 29th minute his curled attempt hit the post with Marchetti rooted to his spot.

Before the interval, Candreva's free-kick was kept out by Buffon.

Juve increased the tempo after the restart and doubled their advantage after a fast break.

Claudio Marchisio spotted Tevez just outside the area and the Argentinian's right-footed effort beat Marchetti.

Lazio coach Stefano PIoli made a double substitution shortly after with Filip Djordjevic and Felipe Anderson replacing Miroslav Klose and Keita.

On the hour mark, Buffon was forced to palm over the bar Candreva's bullet strike from 25 yards.

Juve then made it 3-0 when a great play by Roberto Pereyra saw the Argentinian midfielder set up Pogba in the box and he cooly struck the ball past Marchetti..

A tactical foul by Padoin on Candreva earned him a second yellow card, leaving Juve down to 10 men.

But Lazio still could not find a way through.

Allegri: 'Pogba can be the best'

21c9fd2.jpg

Nov 22, 2014

Max Allegri said Paul Pogba “can become the strongest midfielder in the world” after Juventus crushed Lazio 3-0.

“Pogba had a great game, but he has the quality to do even better and become the strongest midfielder in the world,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“He moved with the right tempo in attack and defence. It was his best performance of the season so far.”

The Bianconeri have been dominant since moving to a Christmas Tree formation, scrapping Antonio Conte’s three-man defence.

“The team did well, defended when necessary and I think we played fairly well with some good passing moves. We struggled a little in the first half and misplaced a few too many passes, but sorted that out.

“The lads worked hard and Mattiello nearly scored when coming off the bench. It was important to get a win in such a difficult arena against a tough Lazio side, especially after Roma had won earlier today.

“Andrea Pirlo hadn’t trained with the team for 10 days, but he had a great game and when we have an extra man between midfield and defence it’s normal he has more space and protection to pass the ball.

“Pereyra has great technique, but he also goes straight for the goal. He runs hard and brings real intensity to the team, so I think that was his best performance of the season. He does need to improve his finishing, as a player like him needs to score at least six or seven goals per campaign.

“The team works together and the more the forwards do, the easier it is for the defenders. You have to keep the ball as far away from your own box as possible and you do that by attacking.

“I thought our worst performances were against Empoli, Genoa and Olympiacos. Whether playing with three at the back or four, we always moved the ball around well. With an extra man in attack you need to work harder, but it’s worth it to have more options going forward.

“It might’ve seemed easy against Parma, but that was not the case, as they were fresh from a win over Inter. We need to work on keeping tight, as the more we stay tight, the less we need to run.”

Player Ratings: Lazio 0-3 Juventus

vfz8u9.jpg

Nov 22, 2014

Juventus comfortably brushed aside a plucky Lazio team 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Saturday evening.

Paul Pogba capped off a fine counter attack to open the scoring for the Serie A table-toppers midway through the first half. Carlos Tevez grabbed a second early in the second half, before Pogba got another minutes later.

Here are our player ratings for the game.

Lazio

Federico Marchetti – 5.5 – Exposed - Could do little about the first two goals as he was exposed by his defence. But let the third get under his body, but made a brilliant reaction save from a Mattiello thunder strike.

Dusan Basta – 5 – Weakness - Somewhat culpable for all the goals. Never got close enough to his men at all. Off the pace going forward and a weakness at the back.

Stefan De Vrij – 5.5 – Effort - Put an early header over the bar and made a brilliant tackle to stop Tevez in his tracks, with two men unmarked in the box. However, couldn’t deal with some excellent attacking play from the visitors in the second half.

Lorik Cana – 4.5 – Absent - Nowhere to be seen on first goal. Was pulled all over the pitch by Pereyra and Tevez’s movement. Must do better.

Edson Braafheid – 5.5 – Position - Took too long to close Tevez down for the first, and was out of position on numerous occasions. Lichtsteiner had the run of the Lazio left-side. Was the best of a bad bunch.

Marco Parolo – 5.5 – Shadow - Overshadowed by a brilliant performance by Pogba. Didn’t offer much going forward and Juve’s runners were rarely picked up.

Lucas Biglia – 6 – Tried - Tried to dictate the tempo for his side, but couldn’t get a hold on the game. Ran his heart out as he does, though it wasn’t enough.

Senad Lulic – 5.5 – Nowhere - Let Pogba get beyond him on the first goal and shirked his defensive duties all too often.

Keita Balde – 5 – AWOL - One effort from close range fired high and wide. But struggled against a tight Juve backline.

Miroslav Klose – 4.5 – Controlled - Made a nuisance of himself particularly early in the game, though was off the pace and never tested Buffon at all. Chiellini had him under complete control.

Antonio Candreva – 6.5 – Spark - Two shots of note. One went inches wide and another, a free kick, smashed straight at Buffon. Lazio’s main creative spark but was limited to a few long-range efforts.

Substitutes

Felipe Anderson – 6 – Intense
- Replaced Keita on 57 minutes. Played with an intensity that Keita lacked and had a good couple of runs, but well handled nonetheless.

Filip Djordjevic – 5.5 – Same - On for Klose after 57 minutes and faired little better than the German.

Luis Cavanda – N/A - Late replacement for Basta.

Juventus

Gianluigi Buffon – 6 – Enough - Saved and held onto a stinging Candreva free kick got behind another. Not perfect, but did what he had to do.

Stephan Lichtsteiner – 6 – Workhorse - Marshalled Keita well in first half and started the counter for the second goal. Got up and down the right side well.

Leonardo Bonucci – 6 – Distributor - Was sluggish early on when Lazio were in the ascendency, but grew into the match as his distribution came to the fore.

Giorgio Chiellini – 6.5 – Rock - Blocked and headed everything that came close to him, the rock at the back for Juve, negating both Klose and Djordjevic.

Simone Padoin – 5 – Off - Was targeted by Lazio as a weak link early on, but handled himself well and got forward at times, slaloming his way past Lazio’s defence. Stupidly sent off for collecting two yellow cards.

Andrea Pirlo – 7 – Ticking - Kept things ticking over as his teammates stole the headlines. Started the counter for the opening goal.

Claudio Marchisio – 6.5 – Grew - Was fairly quiet in the opening 45 minutes. Great touch and awareness to find Tevez for the second.

PAUL POGBA – 8 – Impeccable - Showed great strength and determination to run from the edge of his box for the first goal. Smacked the post with a spectacular curling shot soon after, but got a second on the hour mark. Absolutely brilliant all-round midfield display.

Roberto Pereyra – 7 – Problems - Created a number of problems in the first 45, then capped an encouraging display with a deft through-ball for Pogba’s second.

Carlos Tevez – 7 – Dangerous - Excellent vision and touch on the counter-attack to pick out Pogba for the opener. Showed brilliant awareness and trickery all night, a nightmare for Lazio to deal with and got a deserved goal.

Fernando Llorente – 5 – Absent - Something of a ‘usual’ performance from the Spaniard. Fairly absent for the majority before being hauled off after an hour.

Substitutes

Alvaro Morata – 6 – Move
- On after an hour for Llorente. Added more pace and movement to the frontline.

Federico Mattiello – N/A - Replaced Peyreyra after 72 minutes. Produced a rocket of a shot that was well saved.

Arturo Vidal – N/A - Took the place of Pirlo after 76 minutes.

Capocannoniere Tevez Hails

“Hard-To-Stop” Juventus

104591w.jpg

Nov 22, 2014

Juventus put in a determined and dominating performance, defeating Lazio 3–0 on Saturday; but striker Carlos Tevez has already set his sights on the Bianconeri’s next test in Europe.

Tevez scored a goal tonight for Juventus, and one which saw him climb at the head of the scoring chart to become the Serie A top-scorer.

Tevez talked about the display against Lazio after the game, becoming top-scorer, and praising his team’s juggernaut qualities when it performs the way it did today.

“It was a tough game against Lazio today but nothing could go wrong because we had the right attitude,” Tevez said to Sky Sport Italia.

“I play in a great team and I am happy as you can see from my performances on the pitch.

“It is a great moment for me, yes to be Serie A top-scorer.

“But now we have to think about the game against Malmo; if we we play like this, it is hard to stop us.”

Juventus take on Malmo in midweek Champions League action, and Tevez is already aiming to continue that good form in Europe.

Pioli: 'Lazio tip hats to Juve'

k1w8li.jpg

Nov 22, 2014

Stefano Pioli said Lazio “can only tip our hats” to Juventus, but regrets letting their heads drop so early.

This 3-0 result was the Aquile’s second consecutive defeat, as they fell to Empoli before the break for international duty.

“Juventus proved once again tonight they are a great team, so we can only tip our hats to them,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia.

“Having said that, the team should’ve reacted differently to the opening goal. Until that moment it was a balanced encounter and we could’ve stayed in the game for longer, so that is the regret.

“When you make certain mistakes against a side of this quality, you’re more likely to emerge defeated.

“It’s true we didn’t create that much, but we did have chances with De Vrij, Keita and Candreva. We wanted to play between the lines and didn’t do that enough, but after the second goal it became a real problem to get back into it, above all psychologically.

“Nobody made the right run at the right time on the Tevez goal and many positions were wrong. It wasn’t really a counter-attack, as everyone was supposed to be in position and we weren’t. We cannot have players who mark the box without any opponents as reference points.

“We had intended to push forward and press Juventus in their own half, which we managed early on, but sometimes we kept doing it even when our players were out of position and that left too many spaces.

“In the first half we should’ve moved the ball wide more and go round Juve, as they created a lot of density in the middle. Unfortunately Juve are a strong side and we ran into problems.”

Allegri: Winning Was Important
For Juventus After Roma Result

j8fiut.jpg

Nov 22, 2014

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri believes the Bianconeri needed to win in order to maintain their three point advantage over Roma after defeating Lazio 3-0 on Saturday night.

A brace from Paul Pogba and a goal from Carlos Tevez helped the Bianconeri stroll to an easy victory, a result Allegri believes was key after Roma’s 2-1 victory over Atalanta earlier in the day.

“It was important to win especially in order to respond to Roma. To win tonight we needed that type of performance,” he told Mediaset Premium after the match.

“The players did very well, we could have scored the second goal in the first half but we did well in the defensive phase as well.

“Morata or Llorente? It depends on the match. Llorente did well in defending the ball tonight. It’s normal that by playing with three strikers there are no points of reference but we need time for that.

“I think Paul Pogba had his best match tonight, not just for the goals, but for the plays he made and the sacrifices he made.

“I think he has the potential to be the best player in his position if he wants to. These matches must be the norm for him.”

Allegri also touched on Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Malmo, a match the Bianconeri want to get all three points from.

“Wednesday’s match against Malmo is important in terms of preparation for the next match against Atletico in order to finish first.”

Juventus 3 - Lazio 0:
Initial reaction and random observations

28wplk9.jpg

Nov 22, 2014

So something tells me this four-man defense is working well. Let's check and see if this hunch is actually the truth...

We were wondering how Juventus was going to come out of the international break in the lead up to their first game in two weeks. I think it's safe to say we got our answer in pretty emphatic fashion, as Juve recorded a super impressive 3-0 win over Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Paul Pogba did classic and amazing Paul Pogba things, scoring a brace with two lovely goals. Carlos Tévez continued what he called the form of his life with his ninth Serie A goal of the season. And Juventus, which looked so incredibly average when they let in a stoppage-time goal against Genoa back in the final game of October, has now found new life with Max Allegri's switch to a four-man defense.

Yeah, I'd say things are going pretty well.

JuventusFC ✔ @juventusfcen
.@OfficialAllegri: "It was important to get straight back into our stride following Roma’s win. It was a tough game at a difficult venue.”

You compare the Juventus we saw against Genoa to the one we saw against Lazio on Saturday night — two games separated by a little less than a months time — and it's night and day. That Juventus seemed to be lacking any kind of spark that was needed to get past even the most ordinary of teams. This Juventus is just a completely different animal, one that creates chances, puts them away, and just dominates the opposition. No messing around. Just all systems go on their way to three points.

Seriously, this team just looks reborn in such a short period of time. Amazing what a little much-needed tweaking and a kick in the backside can do to wake things up.

Oh, and one more thing...

BWRAO @JuventusNation
RIP 3-5-2 for life.

As some like to say, "Onward and upward." That's certainly Juventus' trajectory these days.

Random thoughts and observations

Seriously, how good is Paul Pogba? I mean, really, both of his goals were simply class. Like the whole team, he's really come alive with the switch in formations, scoring three goals in his last three games and has just been the Pogba we're used to seeing.

And guess what? He's locked up with a shiny new contract until 2019. I love being able to type that.

So you're up 2-0 and you bring on Álvaro Morata for a so-so Fernando Llorente as your first sub of the game. That is Max Allegri putting his full foot on the gas and not settling for a two-goal lead.

If you're Allegri, is it a no-brainer that you bring Arturo Vidal back into the starting lineup against Malmö on Wednesday night? I ask this because Roberto Pereyra has been really, really good in this 4-3-2-1/4-3-1-2 setup Juventus has used lately. And that assist on Pogba's second goal, oh man that was pretty. Silky smooth.

That was one of the more interesting shutouts for Gigi Buffon I've seen as of late. He coughed up a couple of Lazio shots, and then made one heck of a save toward the end of the game after Juve went down to 10 men.

Andrea Pirlo attempted 60 passes against Lazio. He misplaced three of them. Welcome back, maestro.

This was a game where the brilliance of Claudio Marchisio was in full effect. He snatches the ball and then starts the counter that leads to Tévez's goal to make it 2-0. Oh, and he got the assist on the goal, too, which was pretty nice in its own right. You can't send him to the bench these days. He's just playing so well, and so consistent.

Stephan Lichtsteiner recorded a game-high six tackles. I think he likes playing against his former club.

Somebody get a sideline cam on Marco Storari all the time, please.

https://twitter.com/ADP1113/status/536267068744540160

Juventus is still undefeated when Simone Padoin is in the starting lineup. Juuuuuust throwing it out there.

Klose Tips Pogba For Future Ballon D’Or

10gcn5l.jpg

Nov 22, 2014

Following his side’s 3–0 loss to Juventus, Lazio striker Miroslav Klose has offered words of praise to Juventus’ Paul Pogba.

The French midfielder put a particularly dazzling display, being decisive in helping his team take the three points and move back at the top of the Serie A table.

Klose spoke after the match, considering the Frenchman to already be a great player today but also tipping him for much greater things in years to come.

“Pogba is a great player and tonight we all saw that,” Klose said to Calciomercato.it.

“He is still young of course and can improve even more.

“I think that sooner or later, he will win the Ballon d’Or.”

Pogba scored two goals against Lazio on Saturday’s evening Serie A match, bringing his personal tally to three goals in 10 games so far this season.
