Del Piero: A good night for Juve

Nov 6, 2013

Alessandro Del Piero is hopeful former club Juventus will qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.

http://markting10.nl/

The Old Lady are bottom of their group having collected three points from four games, but the 2-2 draw with Real Madrid last night coincided with Galatasaray’s 1-0 loss at Copenhagen.

“I still haven’t watched the game, but I’ve taped it,” the Sydney FC player told Radio RTL on Wednesday. “It’s not easy to find the time when you have two small children.

http://markting10.nl/

“I have followed the reaction to the match though and the result, considering the Galatasaray score, is positive.

“Juventus still have a great chance of getting through.”

The Old Lady will finish second with two wins from their final two games. Should Galatasaray fail to win at Real, then a win against Copenhagen and a draw in Istanbul would be enough for the Italians.

Ancelotti: Casillas was crucial for Madrid

The Italian praised the club skipper and defended Raphael Varane -
who he says will one day be the best defender in the world.

Nov 6, 2013

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti admitted Iker Casillas played a crucial role their 2-2 draw at Juventus on Tuesday.

http://markting10.nl/

The goalkeeper has been the Italian's No.1 between the sticks in the Champions League, though Diego Lopez is being favoured in the first team for games in La Liga.

However, Casillas did himself a world of good with a top performance in Turin and the former Chelsea boss heralded the shot-stopper for his efforts in keeping the Bianconeri from scoring more than twice.

"He played a very good game," he told Canal Plus. "He was decisive and made two great saves in the first half.

http://markting10.nl/

"For him it is easy to not play every game, but he is ready to do it and that means he's very professional."

Raphael Varane was at fault for both Juve goals in the European encounter but the Italian trainer refused to criticise the Frenchman, who he clearly sees as having a brilliant future ahead of him.

"Varane is only 20 and will be the best in the world," he added. "I could not ask him to make zero mistakes."

http://markting10.nl/

Madrid looked off the pace in the first half but reacted to Arturo Vidal's 41-minute opener with second-half strikes from Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, though Fernando Llorente equalised to earn the hosts a point.

Ancelotti continued: "We reacted so well in the second half. I'm very happy about this: the courage and the attitude.

"In the first half we defended too deep, allowing space to Paul Pogba and Claudio Marchisio. After that, we changed and pressed more in the midfield.

http://markting10.nl/

"Ramos was in the starting XI to cover gaps. Because in Madrid Juventus crossed too many balls in and Ramos is so good with the head. He played well, he is a great player but him at right-back is only temporary."

One more point in the final two group stage games - at home to second-placed Galatasaray and away to Copenhagen - for los Blancos will see them ease into the last 16.

Llorente: Juventus will qualify for knockout stages

The Spanish attacker believes the Old Lady still have every chance
of making it to the round of 16 following Tuesday's results.

Nov 6, 2013

Fernando Llorente remains confident that Juventus can qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League after Tuesday's 2-2 draw at home against Real Madrid.

http://markting10.nl/

The Serie A champions currently sit fourth in Group B with just three points from four games, but Llorente - who scored the equaliser after Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale had cancelled out Arturo Vidal's opener for the Bianconeri - thinks they can still progress if they win their remaining two matches.

"The group is still very open and if we win the next two games, I think we will qualify," the 28-year-old told the official Uefa website.

"We managed to earn a very important point especially considering that Galatasaray lost in Copenhagen.

http://markting10.nl/

"I think we have played a very good game against Madrid. We saw a strong Juve, a Juve side fully aware of what was at stake.

"It wasn't easy but the team worked hard and did well."

Juventus resume domestic action on Sunday when they host Napoli.

Pogba: Everyone should fear Juventus

The France midfielder feels the Serie A champions remain one of Europe's prominent clubs
and is still confident of progressing from Champions League Group B.

2ho8oef.jpg

Nov 6, 2013

Paul Pogba insists Juventus are still a force to be reckoned with in Europe despite the fight they face to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

http://markting10.nl/

The Turin club sit bottom of Group B on three points after Tuesday's 2-2 draw against Real Madrid and Copenhagen's win over Galatasaray, yet Pogba feels they should still be feared despite their troublesome start to their European campaign.

"Juventus will always be Juventus, a great team, and everyone should be afraid of facing us," he told Sky Sport Italia.

"We have to prove that we're strong and that we can win. We have to think about ourselves, focus on winning and only afterwards see what the other teams have done."

http://markting10.nl/

The Frenchman then went on to reflect on Tuesday's draw against Madrid and was pleased with the performance of his side.

"We put in a good performance, especially in the first half, and we did want to start strong.

http://markting10.nl/

"We were facing a great team and saw that the moment we make one mistake, they hit us with pace."

The Serie A champions host Copenhagen in three weeks' time, before travelling to Istanbul to face Galatasaray in their final group game on December 10.

Buffon hails 'decisive' Casillas

The Bianconeri goalkeeper was quick to salute his Blancos counterpart
for pulling off three stunning stops during their sides' Champions League showdown.

Nov 6, 2013

Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon has heaped praise on Iker Casillas for the Real Madrid goalkeeper's sensational display in Turin on Tuesday night.

http://markting10.nl/

The two European giants drew 2-2, with Casillas made a number of excellent saves throughout the match to earn his side a point.

The two men have been hailed as the world's top goalkeepers for a decade now, and Buffon was left in no doubt as to the brilliance of his Madrid counterpart.

"Casillas was decisive," the World Cup winner told Futbol. "He had a great game and made three critical interventions."

http://markting10.nl/

Despite the draw, Juve dropped to the bottom of Group B, but they are just one point behind Galatasaray and Copenhagen, with games to come against both.

Consequently, Buffon remains optimistic that the Bianconeri will make the last 16.

"We are in a difficult group but we still have a good chance of getting through," the 35-year-old shot-stopper stated.

http://markting10.nl/

"Copenhagen and Galatasaray are both doing well and however far Real Madrid get in the competition, they have great quality.

"We are in a tough group, but we must keep on fighting."

There’s life in the Old Lady

A see-sawing 2-2 draw with Real Madrid leaves Juventus’ Champions League
future in an uncertain state, but still within their grasp. Luca Cetta writes.

b88etk.jpg

Nov 6, 2013

Tuttosport asked for ‘another night like this’ referring to Juventus’ stirring 3-1 victory over Real Madrid 10 years ago in the Champions League semi-final. Meanwhile, the two sides would be doing battle five years to the day Alessandro Del Piero hit a memorable brace in the Spanish capital. Matches between Juventus and Real stir up unforgettable moments for fans of both clubs, yet for Bianconeri boss Antonio Conte their second season meeting was not about history, but a fundamental contest to aid Juve’s chance of progression.

http://markting10.nl/

A boisterous Juventus Stadium was treated to a pulsating affair. Both sides traded blows at certain stages. Juve were up, Real down. Real up, the Bianconeri down. What the clash between two of football’s heavyweights didn’t do was make Juve’s situation any easier. The draw means there’s still a way to go to book a spot in the last 16.

When quizzed about their system in the pre-match Press Conference, Conte retorted the key was how Juventus played, not in what shape. “What is more important than the system is the way we interpret the game, because we are playing a candidate to win the Champions League.”

It needed to be a performance of intensity, of spirit and of enthusiasm. For the opening 45 minutes those qualities were all on show. Iker Casillas – supreme throughout, despite his lack of regular playing time – was the busier of the two goalkeepers. He was throwing arms and legs at anything in his path to thwart La Vecchia Signora.

http://markting10.nl/

Nearing the end of a first half in which the Turin giants’ midfield dominated and its defence and forward line worked hard to nullify Real’s threats, they were finally rewarded. Paul Pogba was sliced down and Arturo Vidal confidently dispatched the resulting penalty.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side turned the tide after the interval, assisted also by Martin Caceres – who played well otherwise. An errant pass gave the men in orange a chance to equalise, one Cristiano Ronaldo did not pass up. It was the start of a dominant spell for the visitors. In it, Xabi Alonso smacked the woodwork and Gareth Bale put them ahead.

What happened to the Juventus of the opening 45 minutes? Gianluigi Buffon spoke afterwards of being wary every time Real strode forward, so perhaps they aimed to hold. Ancelotti noted half-time tweaks. Yet for Conte, tiredness was the main factor. “In the second half we suffered a little at keeping that tempo with such a packed fixture list. When the intensity drops against Real Madrid, you inevitably risk paying the price, especially when Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are running at you on the counter.”

http://markting10.nl/

Juve needed to bounce back and get something from the game. They did just that. Caceres redeemed himself by crossing for Fernando Llorente’s powerful header. It was the Spaniard’s second goal in consecutive European ties and further highlighted what he brings to the team.

Real controlled possession in the final stages, as both looked content with a point. Conte was generally satisfied. “I’d rate our performance very highly. The team did very well and the first half was perfect in every respect, organisation, quality and intensity.” Buffon rated the performance seven out of 10. For La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport, it was a great Juve which took a ‘golden point.’

http://markting10.nl/

As the group stage reaches its climax, Juve are now drawn into a must-win situation. Currently bottom with just three points from four games, they were aided by Copenhagen’s win over Galatasaray. That keeps them alive and essentially still in control of their destiny. Victory over the Danes in three weeks would give Juventus an opening. Should Real Madrid defeat Gala, it would even leave Conte’s men in second place.

A 2-2 draw may not have been the wholly desired result last night, but it remains in Juve’s hands to finish second in Group B. They must now grasp the chance.

Italians with every reason to keep
head high after Real showdown

We could've controlled things for most of the match,
yet we settled with just the amazing first 45 minutes.

2ytu155.jpg

Nov 6, 2013

I did one of these rants for the first Real Madrid game review, why not do one for the second too.

Not sure if you guys share this sentiment, but I feel like these two games were two missed opportunities to show the world that Juventus can beat even a team like Real Madrid.

http://markting10.nl/

Is Juventus actually a better team than Real? Let's not kid ourselves here - Real is overall superior. But because football is beautiful like that, pit any two teams together that have something to play for and you just cannot predict the result. Especially when on one side you have a fighting team like our Bianconeri.

After a disappointing result in Madrid where we all felt like we deserved a lot more from that game, the second round in Torino left me with a similarly sour taste in my mouth - regret.

At halftime, I was in a huge personal struggle to hide my elation of our performance in fear we would give it all away in the second half. Which we almost did. But man, that first half was beautiful. Could it have been better? Yes, we could've taken a couple more of our chances and really put Real to the test. But the way we played, we fought, we suffocated Real in almost every sense...that was spectacular. Vidal's world-class penalty was the cherry on top.

http://markting10.nl/

Then the second half came and our whole team sat back, inviting Real to score. Which, of course, they did. You can blame individuals (and later I will), but in summary we allowed Real to play at their strengths and they punished us like any big team would.

At the end of 90 minutes, the result was fair, but the opportunity cost of our second half performance was way too high for me to be satisfied. Regretfully, David once again failed to beat Goliath. There is plenty to take from our performance, but man, I just wish we crossed that bar. You know, the way we crossed a similar bar last year against Chelsea.

I'm keeping my head up high though, proud of the team I support each and every day. We'll just have to finally learn some things, fill the holes that are still gaping on our squad, and get 'em next time!

http://markting10.nl/

MATCH RECAP

Conte turned to his now tried and tested 4-3-3 with Bonucci coming in for Chiellini in defense, Caceres on the right, and makeshift left back Asamoah on the left. Marchisio played on the right in an attacking midfield role, Tevez spread play on the left, and Llorente was right in the middle of Madrid's defense.

The first half, as already discussed, was fantastic for Juventus. We dominated possession, were first to every ball, and overpowered the powerhouse that is Real Madrid. Even their counter attacks were mostly taken away from them, with clever and quick pressing and defending. Vidal capped off our performance with a beautiful penalty right before halftime for the 1-0 lead.

The second half brought a lot more goals, and a lot more heartache for Juventus fans around the world. Not only did we significantly decrease our intensity, but we pretty mach sat back and let Real Madrid come at us. Then, Caceres' terrible pass under pressure allowed Benzema to set up Cristiano Ronaldo for the equalizing goal. It wasn't long until another counter attack, this time ending up on the right side at Bale's feet, allowed Real Madrid to go up 1-2. Just like that, all our efforts in the first half went down the drain.

http://markting10.nl/

Was Caceres' pass terrible? It was teeeeerrrible. But overall, his error wasn't our demise.

In the post-match comments, Conte blamed our fatigue for the lack of intensity to start the second half. Errrr. Wrong again. Not that either.

Imagine, just for a second, how the game might have transpired if Juventus started the second half as determined and as hungry as we did in the first 45 minutes. You say that's impossible due to the nature football goes after one team scores a goal? Fine, let's imagine we had 75% of our desire in the first half. Real Madrid wouldn't be able to press so high, Caceres' mistake if it repeated wouldn't necessarily cost us a goal, and we may have even scored a second before Real Madrid had a chance to equalize.

http://markting10.nl/

Why do I think it wasn't fatigue? Because this team is in better shape than just 45 quality minutes. I would've loved to see Conte push and challenge our team to continue playing like we did in the first half, so that we actually SAW the fatigue on their faces and in their legs late in the second half. Instead, we found ourselves having to push for a point, when we needed and could've won all three.

Damn, I'm going into mad rant mode again here. Let's just move on to the ratings.

http://markting10.nl/

LE PAGELLE

Buffon: 7
- Cleaned up what he could clean up, and couldn't do much on either goal really. He was as vocal as ever, organizing that 4-man defense as best as he could from behind. Ultimately outshined by Cassilas on the other end.

Caceres: 6.5 - If we're brutally honest here, his mistake is inexcusable and he single-handedly gave Madrid a goal in a sense. I still will defend him, however, and laud him for the excellent first half and the beautiful cross to Llorente for Juve's second goal. What can I say, I like him on that right side, because of his potential in attack. He provided a lot of width by pushing up often. I hope he doesn't get too down on himself for that errant back pass.

Barzagli: 7 - Did his job defensively against a team whose style is Andrea's Achilles heel. Can't ask much more than that.

Bonucci: 7.5 - Not sure how it happened, but Bonucci ended up being one of our best performers of the match in my opinion. I was actually ready to tweet that he's our weakest link after 15-or so minutes, but the man cleaned up so many counter attacks and intercepted key passes. Fought out Benzema as well. Great game for Bonucci.

Asamoah: 6.5 - I went back and forth on Asamoah here. For what he is - not a left back - he had a pretty decent game. That said, he didn't really contribute anything notable offensively, though you can say he played a bit more conservatively to prevent Ronaldo/Bale counter runs.

Pirlo: 7 - As was the story with most of our players, he had an excellent first half and a poor second. In the first 45 minutes, he mostly directed our attacks to the sides and tried to seek out Llorente centrally when possible. In the second, I do remember a couple decent long balls forward but there should've been more.

Vidal: 8 - If Pogba hadn't given such a half-hearted effort on Bale's goal, he would've probably been my man of match despite not scoring. However, Arturo Vidal is clearly a complete two-way player, who gave an incredible performance in defense and scored a beautiful penalty in a high-stakes match. Screw his second half practice of invisibility, I am giving him an 8. The joy he brought me throughout this game was immense.

Pogba: 7.5 - This is what I wrote of his performance in Madrid: "His first half performance had me mesmerized. It's no secret I'm a fan of the boy, but how he handles himself in big matches at his age is truly amazing...In the second half, he failed to really make an impact, though he did very well supporting Tevez on the left side of the field when possible. My biased man of match." Deja vu, anyone?

Marchisio: 6.5 - We've talked about this - we are all worried about our Principino. To be frank, his position today did not suit him, and he did...okay in it. Had a couple scoring opportunities on which he probably could've done better. I was generally okay with his performance as it could've been much worse. His real wake-up game is yet to come, and it's not gonna happen in a 4-3-3 formation on the right.

Tevez: 7 - He wasn't lethal, but he was very useful. Played his role almost to perfection at times, spreading the defense wide left then cutting in and linking up with our midfielders/Llorente. However, he hasn't had his shooting boots on for a second game in a row. Defensively, helped out incredibly as always.

Llorente: 7.5 - A very similar game to the first round in Madrid - nothing flashy but he got on the scoresheet when it most mattered. Did well linking up with Pogba, Tevez, and the rest of the midfield. He's not David Trezeguet, and it will be a while if ever that we sing "Quando gioca segna sempre Llorente," but I would love to build up his confidence and integrate him well in our team. He is very, very talented in that box.

http://markting10.nl/

Subs:

Quagliarella: sv

Giovinco: sv

Conte: 6.5
- He will have to teach this Juventus squad to be a two-half team instead of just play for 45 minutes in game that matter. That's on him. The first half display was a thing of beauty, and he should completely get credit for it. Similarly, I put sole blame on him for the way we handled ourselves in the second half.

Another Champions League Draw,
But Grinta Shines Through

ezg8ax.jpg

Nov 6, 2013

This is what the Champions League is made for. After the contentious 2-1 victory for Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, Juventus were out for revenge in the return leg at Juventus Stadium in Turin.

http://markting10.nl/

Both teams have been in fine form lately with Real seemingly able to score at will against any team that isn’t Barcelona while Juventus had outscored their provincial opponents 7-0 over three consecutive Serie A victories.

As the game started, both teams switched shares of possession. Real seemed a sleeping giant, able to awake and pounce at any moment but for the time sleeping. Meanwhile, Juve were relentless through the first half once they got into their groove.

They were creating plenty of chances, and had come very close to taking the lead 20 minutes into the first half as Carlos Tevez made a wonderful cross to the head of Claudio Marchisio – only for the effort to be saved by the leg of Iker Casillas. It was a wonderful display of reflexes from a keeper who has been having a tough time with his club lately.

http://markting10.nl/

Towards the end of the first half, Paul Pogba took possession of the ball in Madrid’s 18 yard box, only to be fouled by a foolishly reckless tackle from fellow 20 year old Frenchman Raphael Varane. Referee Howard Webb awarded a penalty – a decision that may seem harsh to some but seems reasonable to me, given that Varane clearly fouled Pogba in the box, though perhaps it wasn’t the most committed of slide tackles.

Llorente and Pogba - Juventus v Real MadridArturo Vidal converted the chance, and Juve cruised into half time with a 1-0 lead. They then promptly went into the second half without nearly as much intensity as they had played with in the first half. Cristiano Ronaldo scored seven minutes in to the half. This prompted a bit of a rebound from Juve, and they made some attacking ventures, but Real would score again thanks to a fine Gareth Bale strike.

Juve were down 2-1 but only for about five minutes. Caceres crossed in a ball to the box, and Varane again made an error as he completely failed to nullify Fernando Llorente, who headed in Juve’s equalizer. It was the second goal against Real for Llorente, who has made great strides in returning to form.

http://markting10.nl/

That was it for the scoring – but the game remained very entertaining. Conte waited quite a bit to make substitutions, and towards the end it was clear both sides were satisfied with the draw.

Juve can also look to the performances (mostly in the first half) of players like Pogba and Caceres with great satisfaction – Caceres was at fault for one of Madrid goals but had a fantastic first half. Pogba was electric in the first half, and while not as dangerous in the second still very good. It was a great achievement for Pogba, to shine on such a big stage against such a big club.

The two sides put on a fantastic match – and Juventus are still very much alive in the Champions League thanks to result elsewhere in the group. FC Copenhagen defeated Galatasaray, so Juventus still control their destiny.

http://markting10.nl/

However, attention must now turn back to Serie A. Roma drew Torino this past weekend, so Juventus are joint second with Napoli and only three points behind Roma. Of course, Juventus and Napoli play this Sunday, while Roma plays 18th placed Sassuolo. Most likely the winner of Juve/Napoli will still be second place behind Roma – but they will have perhaps partially vanquished a second Scudetto challenger.

A draw would be a bad result for both sides, especially if Roma win, so I think we can expect another exciting game this weekend. After that, there is the international break, and Juve’s schedule before the winter break features relatively tame Serie A sides, giving them a chance to focus on their crucial Champions League games against Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen.

‘Juve deserved to beat Real’

Italian goalkeeping legend Dino Zoff insists Iker Casillas is
the only reason Juventus didn’t beat Real Madrid in midweek.

mjsruu.jpg

Nov 7, 2013

The Bianconeri collected a 2-2 draw at the Juventus Stadium in a spectacular game of European Cup football.

http://markting10.nl/

“I’m very satisfied with Juventus’ performance,” the former Old Lady custodian and Coach told Calcio News 24.

“Antonio Conte’s side gave their all against Real and the 2-2 draw is a little tight for them to be honest – they deserved a win.

“Casillas made two or three high class saves and Real found the determination of Arturo Vidal and company difficult to deal with.”

http://markting10.nl/

Juventus are now bottom of their group with just three points from four games, but they still have a chance of progression.

“Things have changed in terms of morale at the club,” Zoff added. “Confidence is now high and I think they still have an excellent chance of reaching the knock-out stages.”

Juventus will go through with wins at home to Copenhagen and away at Galatasaray.

Napoli clash is like a cup final - Bonucci

The defender feels it is "imperative" that his side secure a win over Rafa Benitez's
title challengers and has called for "ferocity" in their remaining Champions League matches.

Nov 7, 2013

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci has described this weekend's top-of-the-table encounter with Napoli as a "cup final" and says it is crucial his side secure maximum points.

http://markting10.nl/

With both the champions and Rafa Benitez's side locked on 28 points from 11 games, just three points behind leaders Roma, Sunday's meeting in Turin is already being billed as a decisive encounter in the race for the Scudetto this season.

Bonucci is under no illusions as to the importance of a win for Antonio Conte's men, and is expecting a stern challenge from the Partenopei.

"It's imperative that we win in our beautiful stadium in front of our fantastic fans," Bonucci told Juve's official website.

http://markting10.nl/

"I'm expecting a real cup final between us and Napoli, it will be a great game. May the best team win."

Bonucci admits the midweek draw with Real Madrid was frustrating and has urged his team-mates to show "ferocity" as they look to continue their push for trophies on all fronts in 2013-14.

http://markting10.nl/

"We need to go further, we have to feel stronger and be more aware of our strength," said the Italy international.

"If we address them with ferocity and conviction, I'm sure we can achieve something magical."

Buffon: The prestige of Juve-Napoli

Nov 8, 2013

Gigi Buffon has praised Juventus and Napoli for how far they have come since playing each other in Serie B just six years ago.

http://markting10.nl/

The pair won promotion to the top flight in 2007 and the Champions League duo are now fighting it out for the Scudetto.

“The prestige of the tie was lost a bit after the years of Michel Platini and Diego Maradona,” the Bianconero captain told the Corriere dello Sport ahead of Sunday’s game.

“That returned with the matches in Serie B where both teams had ended up. In a few years, we found ourselves competing at the top and that is the result of planning.

http://markting10.nl/

“For Juventus, the club’s tradition and the [Agnelli] family was important, while Aurelio De Laurentiis deserves great credit for Napoli.”

The two clubs are joint second in the standings, three points behind a Roma side who have won 10 and drawn one of their first 11.

“Nobody expected the Giallorossi to be flying so high, not even themselves or their most optimistic supporter,” Buffon added.

http://markting10.nl/

“Their run signifies that they have a great desire, motivation and squad spirit – characteristics which allow you to scale unthinkable mountains.

“Roma are first and they deserve it. They will be a rival right up until the very end.”

Although Juventus are within touching distance of top spot, they haven’t had the easiest of starts to the campaign.

http://markting10.nl/

And a number of their key players, including Buffon, have been openly criticised after a few errors.

“To acclaim, by often exaggerating, and soon after start doubting everything or destroying, is part of our culture,” he added.

“It is just as well that each of us is well balanced, has their own security, otherwise we’d end up on the psychiatrist’s couch.

http://markting10.nl/

“This season, right from the start, there was an attempt to strike our most representative players.

“Just think back to the summer doubts over Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente who worked like donkeys from the first day of training where people expected them to be instantly bright and responsive.

“Then it was the turn of Andrea Pirlo and Giorgio Chiellini, before it was mine.

http://markting10.nl/

“We certainly contributed [to the doubts], but we are talking about players who last year had a busy and stressful season which culminated in the Confederations Cup.”

Buffon has kept a clean sheet in his last three League games against Genoa, Catania and Parma.

Cavani exit did not hurt Napoli, says Buffon

The Italy international believes last year's Serie A runners-up
have only improved and is eagerly anticipating Sunday's match.

Nov 8, 2013

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon believes that the departure of Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window has not weakened Napoli.

http://markting10.nl/

The Uruguay international was a key figure at the club in 2012-13 and Buffon has acknowledged that the 26-year-old's exit could have been a big blow for the Stadio San Paolo side had they not brought in an adequate replacement.

However, he has stressed that the Partenopei responded well to Cavani's exit by signing Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid.

"In general, Benitez's squad is stronger and more experienced than last year," Buffon was quoted as saying by Corriere dello Sport.

http://markting10.nl/

"The departure of Cavani could have had an impact if they had brought in someone of lesser quality. The difference is not felt when you bring in someone like Higuain, though.

"He has different abilities, but is of equal quality."

Buffon then went on to discuss this weekend's Serie A clash against Napoli and highlighted the importance of the encounter as well as praising president Aurelio De Laurentiis for restoring the club to its former glory.

http://markting10.nl/

"Games between Napoli and Juventus had lost some of its prestige after the days of Diego Maradona and Michel Platini," he continued.

"We have both returned to the top, though, and it's a beautiful match once more.

"Aurelio De Laurentiis deserves credit for Napoli's re-emergence. He has done some great work. I hope that it will be a great evening."

http://markting10.nl/

Sunday's match is scheduled to kick off at 20:45CET.

Juventus and Napoli sit joint second in the Serie A table at the moment with 28 points from 11 games.

Llorente: Juventus do not want rid of me

The forward claims he is slowly adjusting to life in Turin, dismissing claims he could leave
in January, and says a lot is at stake in this weekend's clash with Napoli.

Nov 8, 2013

Fernando Llorente has shot down suggestions that Juventus have told him he will be sold on the back of a difficult start to his Serie A career.

http://markting10.nl/

The striker has been linked with a move away from Turin despite having only joined the Bianconeri from Athletic Bilbao on a free transfer in the summer, with Arsenal the latest club to be linked with the Spain international.

Despite initially failing to break into the first team, Llorente has featured on a more regular basis in the past month, salvaging a point for Juve in Tuesday's Champions League clash with Real Madrid, and he dismissed claims that he could soon be on the move again.

"I’ve not been asked to leave,” the 28-year-old forward told Radiogaceta de los Deportes. "What is being written in the papers is false. I have the complete faith of everyone at Juventus.

http://markting10.nl/

"It was not easy for me to adapt to the movements and plays of the team, but I’m slowly managing to do what the boss [Antonio Conte] wants.

"Once I have completely settled, then everything will go well."

The Scudetto holders trail Serie A leaders Roma by three points heading into Sunday's clash with Napoli and Llorente is aware of the threat posed by the high-flying Partenopei.

http://markting10.nl/

"It will be a game against a high-level opponent," the Spaniard added. "There will be a lot at stake in this encounter."

Llorente has scored once in eight appearances in Serie A this season, though he has a better record in Europe, with two goals in three Champions League fixtures.

Ferrara talks Juventus-Napoli

Nov 8, 2013

Ciro Ferrara expects to be entertained when former clubs Juventus and Napoli meet in Serie A this weekend.

http://markting10.nl/

The Champions League duo are in joint second place in the standings, just three points shy of leaders Roma.

“I think it will be a very open game,” the man who won League titles with both told Sky Sport Italia on Friday.

“Juventus, in terms of tradition, will be advantaged and they will be playing at home too,” added the former Juve and Sampdoria boss.

http://markting10.nl/

“They are in excellent shape both physically and mentally.

“Napoli will need to be perfect. They are a side who have only messed up one game so far this term and that was against Sassuolo [1-1 at home].

“Rafael Benitez has done well so far and he’s had the courage to rotate his starting XI on a number of occasions.”

http://markting10.nl/

The tie will also see a battle between two Argentine strikers – Juventus’ Carlos Tevez and Gonzalo Higuain of Napoli.

“They are essential to their teams,” Ferrara continued. “They are two players of an absolute level, even if Higuain seems to be more of a charismatic leader, someone who can inspire his teammates.”

Chiellini a doubt for Juve-Napoli

Nov 8, 2013

Juventus may be without Giorgio Chiellini in Sunday’s Serie A game against Napoli after he picked up an injury on Friday.

http://markting10.nl/

Sky Sport Italia claim the defender, suspended for the 2-2 draw against Real Madrid in midweek, sustained a muscle strain at Vinovo earlier today.

Summer signing Angelo Ogbonna is expected to step in for the Italian international if he is unavailable to boss Antonio Conte.

http://markting10.nl/

The Old Lady will also be without defender Martin Caceres as he will leave for international duty tomorrow after being called up by Uruguay.

Quagliarella: Napoli match will be special

Nov 8, 2013

Juventus forward Fabio Quagliarella has admitted that playing Napoli on Sunday will be ‘a special occasion’.

http://markting10.nl/

The Bianconeri face the Partenopei at the weekend, and the former Stadio San Paolo attacker has conceded that he is looking forward to the match.

“It’s going to be a great game for anyone who loves the sport,” he told Juventus Channel.

http://markting10.nl/

“We are two extraordinary teams, and I am convinced it will be a great game. It’s going to be a special match.

“Napoli are my team, the side that I have always supported. We know that we’re going to have to keep errors to a minimum if we’re going to win.”

Benitez: 'Napoli believe in Juve upset'

Nov 9, 2013

Rafa Benitez has a lot of respect for Juventus, but insists Napoli “have faith in our own qualities” ahead of Sunday’s clash.

http://markting10.nl/

The two title contenders go head-to-head in Turin tomorrow evening at 20.45 CET.

“It’s not easy to play every three days, as we haven’t got much time to work in training,” said Benitez in his Press conference.

“I expect a strong performance tomorrow, as I want to see the minds and the hearts of my players. Juventus are very strong, which is why we need stamina and intensity as well as the desire to do well. We will try to stop them any way they can and hurt the Bianconeri.

http://markting10.nl/

“They have such strength in depth and Antonio Conte knows it, so they are the favourites for the Scudetto. Having said that, we must play in a relaxed and confident manner, as we have faith in our own qualities.”

Many of the teams that take on Juventus have adopted a ‘cage’ to block Andrea Pirlo from creating in midfield.

“We must focus on playing, then maybe you could keep a special eye on a player, but we certainly won’t man-mark him. Do we need the perfect performance? No, as a good one will be enough to get points off the Bianconeri.

http://markting10.nl/

“Gonzalo Higuain has recovered and can even play 90 minutes. We must show our character at the Juventus Stadium, just as we did against Marseille.

“Is this tie comparable to Real Madrid-Barcelona? No, for the passion of the fans I’d say it was more like the Madrid derby between Real and Atletico.”

http://markting10.nl/

On Friday Napoli officially signed Anthony Reveillere as a free agent during injuries for Juan Camilo Zuniga and Giandomenico Mesto.

“We had a meeting and among the players available at the moment was Reveillere. I knew the player and gave the all-clear to continue talks.

“He can give us a great deal and we have 15 days to get him back in shape. He has quality and can play on either flank.”

'Juventus had Benitez deal'

Nov 9, 2013

Rafa Benitez had been close to Juventus before they opted for Gigi Del Neri, revealed ex-President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli.

http://markting10.nl/

“I know that Jean-Claude Blanc had contacted Benitez to replace Ciro Ferrara and there had also been the green light from the majority shareholders,” Cobolli Gigli told Radio Crc.

Ferrara was sacked in January 2010, though Del Neri did not arrive from Sampdoria until May. Alberto Zaccheroni was in charge for those interim months and Benitez ended up at Inter instead.

“Then they decided to bring in Del Neri, which proved to be a terrible choice. Now Antonio Conte has arrived and reached very important levels with Juventus.

http://markting10.nl/

“Conte and Benitez are different. The Spaniard has more of an international mentality, whereas Conte drilled the ‘never give up’ mentality into the team.

“I couldn’t say which of them I prefer, but as Conte is the Coach of Juventus, I will say Conte.”

The Spaniard steps into the Juventus Stadium tomorrow evening as Coach of Napoli.

http://markting10.nl/

“Juventus-Napoli is going to be a confrontation of mentality. Napoli’s has changed for the better, above all thanks to an international-level Coach and a President who is doing a great job, even with a terrible personality, and I say that with affection!

“Juventus recovered after a poor period and I think this will be a great game. Napoli have top strikers and I still regret that we didn’t sign Marek Hamsik from Brescia.

http://markting10.nl/

“Napoli were very smart to sell Edinson Cavani and bring home a great champion like Gonzalo Higuain as well as strengthening the rest of the squad. Juve also made good moves, as Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente enter that category.

“A week after I left Juventus, they lost 3-2 to Napoli in Turin. Juve should take the example from that experience, because that Napoli had bite, but this current incarnation probably even more so.”

Conte: 'If Napoli don't win...'

Nov 9, 2013

Antonio Conte insists there’s more pressure on Napoli than Juventus. “If Rafa Benitez doesn’t win the Scudetto, he’ll have achieved nothing.”

http://markting10.nl/

The Bianconeri host Napoli in a title showdown on Sunday at 20.45 CET.

“It is certainly an important challenge, just as they were against Inter, Milan and Fiorentina, and will be against Roma,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“The game tomorrow became important thanks to our victory away to Parma, which was worth three points just as this will be. If we beat Napoli and then don’t do the same to Livorno, then it won’t make much difference to our season. Every game is the game of our lives.

http://markting10.nl/

“Nobody is starting out looking for a draw. As always, I say that I hope the winner is the one who expressed the best football.”

Rafa Benitez continually says his Napoli side are at “75 per cent” of their capabilities right now.

“He says that and yet Napoli are level with us and three points from leaders Roma. I can only imagine that when they reach 100 per cent it will be a domination,” added Conte.

http://markting10.nl/

“I hope that Benitez realises this year that if he doesn’t win the Scudetto, he’ll have achieved nothing. We are already at 100 per cent and moving rapidly, so this is why I worry at Benitez’s words.”

There are injury problems for Juventus, as Giorgio Chiellini and Martin Caceres are carrying knocks after the 2-2 draw with Real Madrid.

“We’ll see about Chiellini today, but there isn’t much optimism. Without Caceres we are forced to go back to a three-man defence, which has become more of a necessity than a choice.

http://markting10.nl/

“I am not disappointed that Carlos Tevez isn’t called up for international duty with Argentina, as that way he can rest and train with us.”

Gonzalo Higuain had been close to joining Juventus before he opted for Napoli over the summer.

http://markting10.nl/

“Both Higuain and Tevez could’ve come to us, it’s not as if one would’ve taken away from the other,” added Conte.

“They are both formidable strikers, though maybe Higuain is more of a target man, whereas Carlos likes to provide assists for his teammates.”

Juventus-Napoli Betting Preview:
Expect plenty of fireworks in Turin

Antonio Conte's men have looked uncharacteristically vulnerable at the back this season,
and Al Hain-Cole thinks a high-scoring match is on the cards on Sunday night.

Nov 9, 2013

A heavyweight clash takes place in Serie A on Sunday evening, as Napoli travel to Turin to take on Juventus.

http://markting10.nl/

The champions have won 12 of their last 14 league fixtures at Juventus Stadium and are 3/4 (1.75) favourites with BetVictor to overcome their fellow title contenders.

Rafa Benitez’s men have won five consecutive games in all competitions and are available at 17/4 (5.25) to make it six in a row in this one.

Two of the last three encounters between these sides have resulted in a draw, and you can get odds of 11/4 (3.75) on them cancelling each other out this time.

http://markting10.nl/

While Roma have drawn plenty of plaudits for their record-breaking start to the season, it is a testament to these two sides that they currently trail the leaders by just three points.

The race for the Scudetto looks set to be one of the most open in recent years, and it is hard to see Antonio Conte’s side walking away with the title as they have in the previous two season.

La Vecchia Signora no longer boast the air of invincibility that saw them go the whole season unbeaten a couple of years ago, with their defence in particular looking uncharacteristically vulnerable by their own high standards.

http://markting10.nl/

Having conceded just 44 league goals in their last two seasons, the hosts have let in 10 goals already this Serie A campaign, as well as seven in four Champions League games.

With just four clean sheets in their last 14 fixtures, Juventus are unlikely to shut out a Napoli side that have averaged over two goals a game in all competitions this season, while their own record of scoring in every match means odds of 5/6 (1.83) are not to be missed on both sides finding the net.

Juventus-Napoli Preview:
Serie A challengers clash in a bid to claw back Roma

Last season's champions and runners-up are locked on equal points after 11 matches
as Rafa Benitez's side look for their first away win over the Bianconeri since 2009.

Nov 9, 2013

Defending Serie A champions Juventus will be out to move above Napoli into second place when the two sides meet in Turin on Sunday.

http://markting10.nl/

Antonio Conte's men are seeking their third consecutive Serie A title but, despite a superb start to the campaign, they sit just third in the table after the first 11 games.

Both teams lie three points adrift of unbeaten league leaders Roma, who welcome struggling Sassuolo earlier on Sunday.

Juve have not lost a home league match against Napoli since 2009 and the hosts will likely look to top scorer Carlos Tevez to add to his tally of six league goals as they aim to extend that streak.

http://markting10.nl/

Midfielder Arturo Vidal has also been in fine form, scoring five times in Serie A, while the recent performances of striker Fernando Llorente - a scorer in the 2-2 Champions League draw with Real Madrid in midweek - should also come as a boost to Conte.

The Juve boss may be able to recall Montenegro international Mirko Vucinic to the squad for the first time since October 2 after a thigh injury, but Simone Pepe and Stephan Lichtsteiner are unavailable with the same complaint, while Giorgio Chiellini is a doubt.

Napoli are set to welcome back defender Christian Maggio following suspension, but Miguel Britos (collarbone), Camilo Zuniga and Giandomenico Mesto (both knee) miss out.

http://markting10.nl/

Gonzalo Higuain will look to continue his fine start to life at Napoli after scoring five league goals since his July move from Real Madrid, while attacking midfielders Jose Callejon and Marek Hamsik - who have each scored six times in Serie A this season - will also pose a threat to a more fragile-looking Bianconeri back line.

Juventus and Napoli have combined for 47 league goals so far this season, and visiting head coach Rafael Benitez is anticipating an exciting encounter.

"I think it's going to be a fantastic game between two teams that are doing very well," Benitez said.

http://markting10.nl/

"Juventus are the defending champions and I believe they will have a slight advantage as they have one more day to prepare for the game than we do."

The hosts secured the free signing of Anthony Reveillere on Friday but the veteran defender is unlikely to feature.

Team News, Possible Line-ups,Tactics And Prediction

Nov 9, 2013

Juventus FC and SSC Napoli share a regional rivalry, but it has reached a new level in the past few seasons with both clubs hovering around the top end of the table. This weekend Napoli will travel to Turin to play arguably the most high profile match of Serie A in 2013/14 season so far. Both teams are tied second behind record breaking AS Roma, Napoli ahead on goal difference. With Roma hosting basement boys Sassuolo, neither team can afford to drop points in this match and risk an increase in the gap of three points with the table toppers. This will also be the first time that Antonio Conte crosses paths with Rafa Benitez. Both clubs had matches in mid-week, though Juventus had one extra day of rest.

http://markting10.nl/

Juventus FC – Team News, Line-up and Formation

Juventus fought back in mid-week after being a goal down to snatch a point against Real Madrid (the match ended 2-2). It was once again a tale of two halves for the Old Lady. Juve dominated Real Madrid’s superior starting XI in the first half and could have easily done better than the 1-0 lead they took to half-time. However, the second half was the complete opposite as the nine time European champions looked firmly in control and could have easily nicked a victory. Defensive frailty and individual mistakes have haunted Juventus in almost every game this season and the mid-week game was no exception, as both full-backs – Martin Caceres, Kwadwo Asamoah – were caught napping during the Real Madrid goals.

http://markting10.nl/

Juventus played a 4-3-3 formation in mid-week with Claudio Marchisio operating as one of the wide forwards, often dropping back to turn the system into a 4-3-1-2. As per most reports, Antonio Conte is likely to switch back to his favourite 3-5-2 formation against Napoli. With Stefan Lichtsteiner still out injured, it seems likely that Mauricio Isla will start as right wing-back. Isla’s Juventus career is yet to take off despite signing on in the summer of 2012, though the Chilean’s position is likely to be vital in this match. Napoli’s Pablo Armero isn’t the most intelligent left-back around but he has pace and a dogged insistence to make direct runs at opponent full-backs. With Isla playing up the pitch and given his inability to track back in time, both Armero and Dries Mertens, who often drifts inside, may get acres of space behind the Chilean. Conte is likely to stick to his strongest central defence and central midfield in this match which means that in-form Paul Pogba will get the nod ahead of Marchisio.

Carlos Tevez is a sure-shot starter as one of the two strikers. The Argentine may also get some barracking from Napoli fans who had already mocked his joining Juventus during pre-season. Tevez is yet to score for Juventus in Champions League but is the club top scorer in Serie A so far. More than the goals, his grit, work-rate and inter-play with the Juventus midfield make him a vital piece of the Bianconeri puzzle. Fernando Llorente has slowly but steadily settled down in Serie A and his goal against Real Madrid is bound to give him more confidence. Paolo Cannavaro is likely to start for Napoli, and he has won just two out of eight aerial duels in the league so far: a reason why Llorente may partner Tevez.

SSC Napoli – Team News, Line-up and Formation

The Rafa Benitez effect has slowly but surely began to show for Napoli in Europe. Despite being in the toughest group in Champions League, the Partenopei are right now placed joint top of table with Arsenal after winning three out of four matches in Europe. In mid-week, Napoli looked in trouble at one point during the match against Marseille, but a brace from Gonzalo Higuain ensured a 3-2 home win. In Serie A, they have not always been impressive but have nonetheless picked up wins regularly to stay within touching distance of Roma and Juventus.

Benitez has persisted with his favourite 4-2-3-1 formation this season, Christian Maggio and Armero, used to playing higher up the pitch under Walter Mazzarri have slowly adapted to playing a deeper role, though they are still prone to occasional errors. Maggio has not been a regular starter, losing his place to Giandomenico Mesto, whose injury will bring Maggio back in the team against Juventus. One of Napoli’s weak links in this match may be the likely central defensive pairing of Paolo Cannavaro and Federico Fernandez, two players who have not played together much this season. Just like their opponents in the weekend, Napoli’s defensive record is also somewhat patchy and they have conceded four goals in last three matches. With Juventus showing signs of returning to the best offensive form, the Napoli defence will be looking to cut down mistakes in Turin.

The midfield battle between Valeron Behrami, Gorkhan Inler and the Juventus trio will be an intriguing contest. The Swiss pair is hard-working and has a brilliant understanding between each other, unsurprisingly starting together regularly. Behrami is one of the toughest central midfielders in Serie A, with 42 tackles won in 8 matches and is likely to be given then job to mark Andrea Pirlo.

Napoli’s biggest strength lies in the thrust provided by the three playing behind Higuain, the lone striker. Marek Hamsik is the only one left among Napoli’s famous “Three Tenors”, but is possibly their most crucial player. With 19 key passes so far, the Slovakian is the main creative outlet in the team and will be looking to exploit the gaps which have often exposed Juventus’ defence this season. Lorenzo Insigne continues to mature as a player on the right side of Napoli’s attacking midfielder trident. Insigne has brilliant close control and dribbling ability and may cause problems to Giorgio Chiellini who has often blown hot and cold. With four goals and three assists in last five games, Higuain is carrying a rich vein of form to this game and will be looking to pile agony on a club which pursued him during summer, only to settle for Tevez eventually.

Possible Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Reina(GK); Maggio, Cannavaro, Fernandez, Armero; Behrami, Inler; Mertens, Hamsik, Insigne; Higuain

Players to Watch Out For

Carlos Tevez (Juventus)

Tevez was slightly subdued against Real Madrid and will be looking to bring his A-game to this big match. Rafa Benitez will not be able to field Napoli’s first choice defence in this match and the Argentine will be looking to take full advantage of any mistakes made by the Azzuri defenders. Tevez’s understanding with Llorente is also improving with every passing game and this will be their first major test together in Serie A.

Marek Hamsik (Napoli)

With 6 goals to his name, the Napoli captain has started off where he left last season and is easily one of their most important players. Hamsik hasn’t scored against Juventus since the 3-3 draw in Naples in 2011/12 season, a record which he would be trying to improve.

Prediction

Juventus 2-1 Napoli

Like most Serie A games between top sides, this is also likely to be a tight and tactical battle. Juventus’ defence has been poor this season but they also have kept clean sheets in last three Serie A matches. On the other hand, Napoli missing out on some of the first choice defenders may tip the scales a bit towards the home side.

How Juventus Will Line Up Against Napoli

Nov 9, 2013

Juventus have enjoyed a good run so far, and their fortunes in both Serie A and Champions League have taken a turn for the better.

Their hard-fought victory at Parma was made even more important when Roma dropped their first points of the season on Sunday.

The Bianconeri then earned a deserved point against Real Madrid at the Juventus Stadium, which was made to be even more significant when Galatasaray succumbed to a surprise defeat at Copenhagen.

Sunday's clash with Napoli is the first of two games between the sides that will probably have the largest impact on the destiny of the Scudetto this season—no matter how well the Giallorossi have started, the title remains a push at best.

Tied for second with the Partenopei, the Old Lady will be hoping to open up a gap in what should be the closest challenge to preventing a three-peat and that long-awaited, official, third star above the badge.

Antonio Conte has experimented in back-to-back games in Europe with a 4-3-3 formation against Real Madrid. This was mainly due to the wide threats from Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, although the suspension to Giorgio Chiellini played a small part too.

A return to a 3-5-2 system is probable, meaning that Chiellini should slot back into the left side of the defence, alongside Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli.

Chiellini is reported to have picked up a knock in training on Friday, according to Sky Sport Italia (via Football Italia), which could give Angelo Ogbonna a further opportunity to establish himself as a starter for the Bianconeri.

With Stephan Lichtsteiner's injury continuing to pose a problem on the right side of the midfield, Conte must decide who to select between Mauricio Isla and Simone Padoin. Paul Pogba played there on one occasion as a substitute in the Champions League match with Galatasaray, but his form in the middle of the pitch has been too good to allow Conte to shift him out wide.

Martin Caceres could be a further option on the right; however, Uruguay have requested that El Pelado depart for international duty early, with La Celeste preparing for a crucial World Cup play-off.

Pogba has ousted Claudio Marchisio, who will not be starting for the Bianconeri unless the 4-3-3 system is carried out once again, so the 20-year-old Frenchman will continue to form a third of one of Europe's best midfielders—together with Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal.

Kwadwo Asamoah is struggling for form and has never quite been comfortable stuck out wide, although the competition is not fierce enough to threaten his place right now.

Paolo De Ceglie is an interesting option though, and a player with great power and a willingness to drive at opponents and deliver crosses with greater regularity than the Ghanaian, but it seems as if Conte will persist with the former Udinese player.

Carlos Tevez has shown signs that an understanding between himself and Fernando Llorente is on the verge of blossoming in the absence of Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella.

But the Neapolitan forward has just returned from injury and is a particular favourite of Conte's, meaning that the Lion King will have to fight off Quagliagol for a start alongside El Apache.

Probable Line-up (3-5-2): Gianluigi Buffon; Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci, Angelo Ogbonna; Mauricio Isla, Paul Pogba, Andrea Pirlo, Claudio Marchisio, Kwadwo Asamoah; Fernando Llorente, Carlos Tevez.
