Matuzalem dropped for Juve-Genoa

Oct 26, 2013

Genoa have dropped Francelino Matuzalem against Juventus as punishment after he failed a breathalyser test this week.

http://markting10.nl/

The midfielder was caught drink-driving and Coach Gian Piero Gasperini opted to punish the player by leaving him out of Sunday’s big game.

He also has to do without the injured Mario Alberto Santana and Emanuele Calaiò.

It kicks off at the Juventus Stadium on Sunday at 15.00 (CET).

Genoa squad for Juventus: Antonelli, Antonini, Bertolacci, Biondini, Bizzarri, Centurion, Cofie, De Maio, Donnarumma, Fetfatzidis, Gamberini, Gilardino, Konate, Kucka, Lodi, Manfredini, Marchese, Perin, Portanova, Sampirisi, Stoian, Sturaro, Vrsaljko

Conte: Juventus must work hard for Scudetto

The Bianconeri boss acknowledges the task facing his side to finish top of the table
for a third consecutive time with the likes of Roma, Napoli and Inter on their tails.

Oct 26, 2013

Juventus boss Antonio Conte has admitted it will be hard for his team to finish top of Serie A for a third year in a row.

http://markting10.nl/

The Bianconeri finished comfortably clear of Napoli in 2012-13, but a revamped Partenopei have emerged as genuine challengers in the early part of the current campaign, along with pace-setters Roma.

Conte's men have lost two games on the bounce to Fiorentina (4-2) and Real Madrid (2-1), and the former midfielder is eager for his side to bounce back swiftly in order to send a message to their title rivals.

"It will be difficult to win a third consecutive Scudetto and everyone at Juventus must work hard," Conte told reporters.

http://markting10.nl/

"I am pleased that president Andrea Agnelli reiterated what I often say, which is that we cannot rest on our laurels. We can take nothing for granted.

"We'll try to get back to winning ways tomorrow, as this is an important game and the lads are ready. In the last two matches we reaped a lot less than we deserved to.

http://markting10.nl/

"Over the last two years Juventus have won almost everything there was to win and rediscovered international appeal. But the past no longer counts. We have to look forward if we are to repeat our success."

Juventus host Genoa at 15:00 (CET) on Sunday, with another home tie against Catania next up on Wednesday.

Juventus-Genoa Preview:
Bianconeri look to halt slide

The Serie A champions have tasted defeat in consecutive matches to Fiorentina
and Real Madrid and will hope to get back to winning ways this weekend.

Oct 26, 2013

Juventus go in search of a swift reaction to back-to-back defeats when they entertain Genoa in Serie A on Sunday.

The reigning champions suffered a second-half collapse as they let a two-goal advantage slip in their 4-2 defeat to Fiorentina in their last Serie A outing.

http://markting10.nl/

And Antonio Conte's side followed up that disappointment by succumbing to a 2-1 Champions League loss to Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Despite those setbacks, Juventus are in good shape overall in Serie A, having amassed 19 points from eight games to sit third in the table.

The Turin outfit have a 100 per cent winning record at Juventus Stadium in the league this season too, seeing off Lazio, Verona and AC Milan on their own turf so far.

http://markting10.nl/

Conte has no fresh injury concerns, with Mirko Vucinic and Simone Pepe (both thigh) set to be their only absentees.

Gian Piero Gasperini - who began his second spell at Genoa last month - will look to guide his team to a second consecutive Serie A victory.

Alberto Gilardino was the hero in their 2-1 triumph over Chievo last time out, as his double sandwiched an effort from Simone Bentivoglio.

http://markting10.nl/

But Genoa have struggled for consistency this season, and occupy 15th position having mustered just two victories from eight league games.

How Juventus Will Line Up Against Genoa

Oct 26, 2013

Juve have endured a tough week, with a controversial defeat in the Champions League to Real Madrid following up their shocking loss to Fiorentina.

http://markting10.nl/

Antonio Conte tried to change things at the Santiago Bernabeu, and even though the end result was defeat, a back four appeared to at least be worth examining further.

Leonardo Bonucci dropped to the bench and Martin Caceres and Angelo Ogbonna came in to play at full-back.

The playacting from Cristiano Ronaldo conned the referee into sending off Giorgio Chiellini, making the Bianconeri's task even more difficult, but the character shown by his players will please Conte.

http://markting10.nl/

Aaron Giambattista @agiamba
SKY- That wasn't a sending off for Chiellini. Pogba- "It was shocking. It wasn't a red card, but the ref made that decision regardless."

The Old Lady could have stolen a point with Sebastian Giovinco guilty of wasting a chance to drive straight towards goal.

Genoa present a different challenge on the domestic scene this weekend, which will probably mean that Juve are tasked with breaking down the opposition, rather than the reactionary tactics needed against Los Merengues, who assumed control in Madrid.

Conte appears to be content with bringing back his tried-and-tested 3-5-2 system, but with a twist.

http://markting10.nl/

With Stephan Lichtsteiner's absence likely to continue through injury, Conte is unsatisfied by the reserve options at right midfield.

Simone Padoin has failed to impress, while Mauricio Isla was even snubbed at the Stadio Artemio Franchi last Sunday when Marco Motta was incredulously put on as Juve tried to stem the relentless waves of Viola attacks.

The other problem that continues is at the heart of the side, with Paul Pogba's form meaning his is now a permanent fixture in the Juve starting lineup, but with Claudio Marchisio, Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal also available, there is a selection dilemma for the coach.

http://markting10.nl/

It appears as if Pogba might be prepared to move to the wing, a role that he played for half-an-hour when Juve were chasing the match against Galatasaray.

Kwadwo Asamoah was given a torrid time by Joaquin last Sunday and paid the price by being dropped to the bench for the Champions League midweek, but the Ghanaian will come back in at left midfield after Ogbonna failed to command consecutive starts.

With injury concerns for Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella, Conte can consider himself fortunate to have Fernando Llorente showing signs that he is about to enter a rich vein of form.

http://markting10.nl/

The Spaniard equalised against Real Madrid with a quick reaction to Iker Casillas' save from Pogba's header, and now it will be a case of whether he can develop a better understanding with Carlos Tevez.

The Grifone will present a stern test for Juve, and with three draws in the last four matches between the two teams, Gian Piero Gasperini will be hopeful that his second spell in charge of the Gialloblu can continue to prosper.

But preparations appeared to have been marred with the news that central midfielder Matuzalem has had a brush with the law, reported by Italian newspaper La Repubblica, which could make his presence at the Juventus Stadium this weekend in doubt.

http://markting10.nl/

Omid Zamani @Juventus__fan
Francelino Matuzalem was stopped by Police last night on the seafront at Arenzano while intoxicated

With Gasperini's 3-4-3 formation, the clash of styles should make for a thoroughly entertaining game with a huge variety of tactics on display.

Off the field though, Juve have received better news with a new kit sponsorship, announced on the club's official website, with Adidas to commence in 2015.

http://markting10.nl/

The deal will run over six years and bring in €139.5 million, aligning the club with some of the biggest kit sponsorships in Europe.

Signore Calcio @SignoreCalcio
Juventus will earn as much as Bayern Munich and Arsenal with Adidas' kit sponsorship and merchandise deals. Juve leapfrog over Milan & City.

Probable XI: Gianluigi Buffon; Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini; Paul Pogba, Claudio Marchisio, Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal, Kwadwo Asamoah; Carlos Tevez, Fernando Llorente.

MATCH PREVIEW

Oct 26, 2013

Juventus must hit back immediately following dual losses at home and in Europe, but they face a revitalised Genoa outfit.

http://markting10.nl/

The Bianconeri were cruising at Fiorentina last weekend. Two goals to the good with 20 minutes remaining, it appeared they would continue a 15-year unbeaten streak in the city thanks to Carlos Tevez and Paul Pogba. That was until the Viola sprung into life and Giuseppe Rossi led an incredible 15-minute demolition. It ended 4-2.

In midweek, a spirited Juventus were defeated by Real Madrid in the Champions League. Fernando Llorente scored, but they succumbed to two first half goals from Cristiano Ronaldo. The Bianconeri fought hard despite going down to 10 men early in the second half.

http://markting10.nl/

Mirko Vucinic, Fabio Quagliarella, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Simone Pepe skipped the trip to Madrid and remain unavailable for Antonio Conte.

Alberto Gilardino struck twice – including a bizarre second goal which ricochet off his face and bounced in – as the Grifoni defeated Chievo last Sunday. Goals in either half, with the winner coming immediately after Chievo’s equaliser, gave Genoa just their second win of the campaign.

http://markting10.nl/

It means Gian Piero Gasperini has taken four points from his first two games in charge. Following their slow start under Fabio Liverani, the Rossoblu have gradually hit back, but against sides also near the foot of the table. This weekend they face a different challenge.

Emanuele Calaió cannot make the journey to Turin, while Mario Santana is in doubt. His condition is to be assessed in the upcoming days.

Genoa held Juventus to a 1-1 draw last term, the second successive draw in the fixture and ninth overall. However, the Turin giants dominate with 35 wins. Genoa have triumphed just twice.

http://markting10.nl/

Keep an eye on: Fernando Llorente (Juventus) – The Spaniard broke his Champions League duck for the club in midweek on home soil. Now back in Turin, Llorente will aim to carry though momentum to Serie A and add to his one League strike.

Form guide: Juventus (W W W W L) Genoa (D L L D W)

Juventus v Genoa – Team News,
Tactics, Possible Line-ups And Prediction

Oct 26, 2013

Juventus find themselves five points off the pace to a brilliant AS Roma side in Serie A table. The Old Lady will be looking to bounce back from last match day’s devastating outcome by returning to winning ways against Genoa.

http://markting10.nl/

Team News and Tactical Brief

Juventus

The past week has been quite topsy-turvy for Juventus and the Bianconeri have lost back to back matches within the span of a few days, albeit the manner of their losses were dramatically different. On the weekend Juventus were quietly cruising towards an important away win Florence after taking a 2-0 lead. Then as Conte put it later “Something happened”. An incredible and unexpected blitz of clinical counter attacks saw Giuseppe Rossi become the first Fiorentina player in over half a century to score a hattrick against Juventus. By the time the dust had settled, Juventus found themselves down 4-2 after conceding the highest number of goals in Antonio Conte era. It was an utter and absolute implosion, straight out of the dark days under Alberto Zaccheroni and Gigi Delneri eras.

The defeat to Real Madrid though, was a sharp contrast and left Juventus fans with a sense of positivity which some laboured victories this season didn’t do. Conte finally decided to switch back to a four man defence, taking a gamble on playing just fit Martin Caceres and Angelo Ogbonna as left-back. Conte’s decision to use a 4-3-3/4-3-1-2 formation worked reasonably well as Juventus dished out a much more improved performance in a tight game which was slightly shaded by Giorgio Chiellini’s much debated sending off in second half. Juventus defence, which has been uncharacteristically porous this season also looked somewhat solid against one of the best offensive line-ups in football right now.

http://markting10.nl/

Despite the relative success of the new formation against Real Madrid, Conte is likely to go back to his 3-5-2 formation which has served Juventus well in the league in past two seasons. Martin Caceres’ highly impressive performances should see him start as one of the central defenders along with Leonardo Bonucci. Kwadwo Asamoah is also likely to make a return to the left wing-back position with Paul Pogba starting on the right side. Pogba’s deployment may be another experiment from Conte. The French starlet did make a difference by playing in the same position against AC Milan but has not started a game as a right wing-back.

Both Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella are still out injured which may see Carlos Tevez once again pair up with Fernando Llorente upfront. Sebastien Giovinco may also make an entrance in this match at some point.

http://markting10.nl/

Possible Starting XI: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Caceres; Pogba, Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, Asamoah; Llorente, Tevez

Juventus-Genoa.jpg

Genoa

The oldest football club in Italy barely escaped relegation last season and by the looks of it, they may be following the same pattern this season. Genoa are sitting at 15th spot of the table and have won only twice this season. They had a tough start to their Serie A fixture list but seemed to have turned a corner when they clinched an easy 3-0 win over Sampdoria in the Derby della Laterna. That win didn’t kick-start their form eventually as they went into a 4 match winless streak. In last match-day, Genoa grabbed their first home win this season as Alberto Gilardino scored a brace to guide the Girfoni to a 2-1 victory over Chievo. Genoa have been poor travellers in the league in past 2-3 seasons and they may have their task cut out against a Juventus team itching to get back to winning ways.

Giampiero Gasperini’s return also sees Genoa coming out in the 3-4-3 formation that made them reasonably successful during the previous tenure under the same coach. Gasperini’s 3-4-3 system is characterized by width provided wing-backs who constantly push up though his teams have often lacked defensive solidity. Gasperini’s system is another reason why Conte is likely to switch back to Juve’s often used 3-5-2 formation.

http://markting10.nl/

Genoa’s central defence has been particularly week this season and it may be stretched against the Juve attack this weekend. Veterans Daniele Portanova and Thomas Manfredini have 67 years between two of them and they have often looked slow and lumbering this season. With wing-backs pushing up, Genoa’s three man central defence comes under more pressure and their current central defenders are yet to get accustomed to it, having failed to keep a clean-sheet in past four matches. 21 year old Croatian Šime Vrsaljko is likely to start as right wing-back and will be one of the most crucial players for Genoa. He has a sudden burst of pace and will be looking to trouble Kwadwo Asamoah, who has never been a fully comfortable left wing-back.

Alberto Giladino hit his best form since 2010 in Bologna last season, scoring 13 times. With his loan stint bearing fruit Genoa has brought him back and he has been their top scorer so far with 3 out of 8 team goals against his name. Gilardino was strongly linked with a move to Juventus late in the summer transfer market. Though that move eventually didn’t go through, the ex-Milan striker will be looking to prove his worth to the Italian champions.

http://markting10.nl/

Possible starting XI: Perin; Antonini, Portanova, Manfredini; Vrsaljko, Biondini, Bertolacci, Marchese; Kucka, Gilardino, Antonelli

Players to Watch Out For

Fernando Llorente (Juventus)

“The Lion King” has been slow off the blocks in Turin but finally seems to have settled down. Llorente held up the ball well against Fiorentina and Real Madrid and even notched up his first Champions League goal in the black & white jersey in mid-week. His combination with Tevez is slowly beginning to work well and the Spaniard is likely to cause problems to Genoa’s weak central defence.

Alberto Gilardino (Genoa)

Gilardino may not have managed to fully fulfill the promise he showed early in his career but nonetheless has been a very handy striker for Serie A mid-table teams. He has scored over 150 league goals, a decent number by any standards and is coming into this match on the back of a match winning brace. His experience may prove an important factor against a Juventus defence which has made errors this season.

http://markting10.nl/

Prediction

Juventus 2-0 Genoa

Should Juventus maintain the form they showed against Real Madrid in mid-week, this will be a straight forward victory for the defending champions. Either way, home advantage is likely to have a decisive impact on this game and Juventus should come out winners without significant damage to their title hopes.

Juventus News – Return to 3-5-2, Genoa History

Oct 26, 2013

Man, this is a weird season.

Juventus are the reigning Italian champions and currently sitting only five points behind Roma (who, excellent form aside, have also benefited from a relatively weaker schedule and — fingers crossed — can’t possibly keep this up forever). Yet the past month-and-a-half has been mostly joyless, with the very worst stretches eerily reminiscent of TDDBC (The Dark Days Before Conte).

http://markting10.nl/

At the start of the new season, the Bianconeri were to all outward appearances primed for the next level; now, they’re struggling just to stay at the current one. You can point to any number of reasons, but it still feels baffling.

And to cap it all off, this week saw the mother of all paradoxes: On Wednesday evening in Madrid, the situation got simultaneously better and worse.

Better, because Juve played a truly inspiring match vs. Real Madrid, one which perhaps finally woke them up for good. Worse, because after all the self-sabotage and lucky escapes of this recent stretch of matches, this time around the Bianconeri were ultimately victims of injustice.

http://markting10.nl/

You probably know the facts by now: A 50/50 penalty call (still, Giorgio Chiellini should have known better); a ludicrous red card for the Kaiser following a shameless flop from Cristiano Ronaldo (who deserves every bit of criticism thrown his way); and a host of calls favoring Real.

The red card ruined what looked to be a thrilling match, but even down a man and suffering from an unconscionable officiating performance, Juve never gave up seeking an equalizer. Still, the 2-1 loss leaves Juve in dire European straits, on the edge of losing control of their Champions League destiny.

On the domestic front, the good news is that the worst part of the Serie A andata schedule is over. Napoli is in November, but the other heavyweights are behind them; Juve won’t even see Roma for the first time until 2014. The bad news is that with the league being at its most competitive in years, the Bianconeri’s margin of error is very slim; Juve need to reel off a string of emphatic victories to get back to the top of the table and restore self-confidence.

http://markting10.nl/

It starts on Sunday, when Juventus will host Genoa, who are currently dangling three points above the relegation drop. There is simply no excuse for anything other than a resounding win.

Juve insisted on making things “interesting” for themselves. Now it’s time to return to domestic dominance and renew their European challenge.

However boring that may be.

http://markting10.nl/

Genoa Clash: Return to 3-5-2

Hiding in plain sight behind Wednesday night’s controversy was the fact that Antonio Conte’s switch to a 4-3-1-2/4-3-3 and its 10-man variations were relatively successful. Aside from the preventable opening goal, Juve did well to limit Real’s chances, both before and — remarkably — after Chiellini was sent off.

Still, for Sunday’s match with Genoa, reports from Italy indicate that Antonio Conte will likely return to the familiar 3-5-2 formation.

At this point, indications regarding Conte’s starting XI remain vague. The attack should be pretty straightforward: Carlos Tevez will start, as he is simply our best option for any given week, and he had the better part of two weeks off during the international break. As there are only two strikers available behind him (on what passes for a depth chart these days), Fernando Llorente and Sebastian Giovinco will duke it out for a starting shirt. Expect Llorente to win out, since he’s coming off the goal in Madrid and will provide some tactical variety in the attacking third. Little Seba will certainly make an appearance in the second half if he doesn’t start.

http://markting10.nl/

In the midfield, where exhaustion still reigns supreme, Andrea Pirlo seems to be a lock, seeing as how he didn’t play the full 90 against Real. Claudio Marchisio and Arturo Vidal should be relatively fresh; perhaps it’s best to give Paul Pogba a bit of a rest this weekend. On the still-Lichtsteiner-less right flank, the old lesser-of-two-evils choice between Mauricio Isla and Simone Padoin will present itself once again, unless Conte sees fit to put Martin Caceres in the role (please do, Mister). Kwadwo Asamoah should start on the left, though if Conte’s feeling conservative, Federico Peluso or Paolo De Ceglie could be used.

In defense, Conte may choose to give Angelo Ogbonna a run out at his preferred center-back position to help him forget his performance on the left in Madrid; he simply is not a left-back. Otherwise, Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini will all vie for a spot; it seems logical that Bonucci will start, as he only came on as a substitute on Wednesday. Finally, recently embattled Gigi Buffon (see below) should start in goal; Sunday will hopefully be a confidence-booster for him.

http://markting10.nl/

As stated above, there is very little excuse for anything other than three points won in convincing fashion. Juve need goals and stops in equal measure, and though Genoa will undoubtedly reserve the “right of the weak” to park their 11-man bus behind the ball, the Bianconeri have the players and tactical nous to overcome such negativity.

Let’s think positive thoughts.

Doveri Refs Genoa

I imagine we’re in favor a quiet weekend as far as officiating goes. No penalties, no red cards, a smooth flow — anything but the hysterical blindness of Madrid or the police state of Fiorentina.

Entrusted with our hopes for relative tranquility is Daniele Doveri of Rome, who will preside over the Genoa match at Juventus Stadium.

http://markting10.nl/

According to the official site, this will be Doveri’s second Juve match, the last being a 2-0 victory over Cesena in December of 2011 (Vidal and Marchisio scored, fun was had by all).

Doveri’s linesmen will be Fabrizio Posado and Alfonso Marrazzo. Simone Ghiandai will be fourth official and keep the car running, just in case.

Previous Genoa Encounters in Turin: Draws, Draws, Draws

Juve will host Genoa on Sunday looking to get their season back in order, in addition to overturning a historical precedent for frustration.

According to the official site, the last two Turin ties between Juve and Genoa have resulted in stalemates:

In the first fixture between the two at Juventus’ new stadium in the 2011/12 season, Genoa came back from a goal down twice to deny a Bianconeri win.

http://markting10.nl/

First, Alessandro Matri’s opener – an instinctive poke of Claudio Marchisio’s long-distance effort into the corner – was cancelled out by a swift counter attack finished off by a header from Marco Rossi.

Andrea Pirlo’s dummy then allowed Matri the space to slot home a second, but a clever dink from Andrea Caracciolo meant the Rossoblu drew level right at the death.”

When the sides met again in Turin last season, Juventus eventually took the lead through Fabio Quagliarella’s close range finish after a number of early chances had passed them by.

http://markting10.nl/

But, in a similar story to the year before, Genoa recovered thanks to a diving header from Marco Borriello, who had been on loan at Juventus during the previous campaign.

It was a tense end to the game as a Sebastian Giovinco free-kick hit the post and the referee waved away claims for a penalty after what looked to be a handball from Andreas Granqvist, but in the end it remained 1-1.

Even further back in time, the two sides couldn’t reach a decision—though in their very first meeting Juve happily won the war, despite drawing the battle:

http://markting10.nl/

Apart from these two recent draws, though, there have only ever been two others between the two sides in Turin throughout all of the 31 seasons in which Juventus have lifted the title.

One of those dates back to 1994/95, when Fabio Galante’s goal to equalise after Fabrizio Ravanelli had put the Bianconeri in front should not have stood because it did not cross the line.

The first ever encounter between the two sides in Turin also finished 1-1. All the action occurred in the first 20 minutes that day in April 1905, with a Genoa response courtesy of Max Mayer following Luigi Forlano’s opener for Juve.

http://markting10.nl/

That result was one of the most famous ever for Juventus, because it meant they finished above none other than Genoa in the table to clinch their very first league title.

That’s more like it. Still, let’s hope Sunday shakes those draws out of our Vecchia Signora’s system.

Juventus vs. Genoa Preview:
Round 9 — Home is where the heart is

And, ya know, where the wins are, too. That's nice.

Oct 26, 2013

The lead up to Juventus' first game after a very good showing against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu can be summed up in one question: "What's next?"

http://markting10.nl/

No, really. That could be it. I could just drop the mic right here and be done with this preview. That sounds like a great idea. Sure hope they listen. But for the sake of this space of the internet and the valued visitors, I will continue to ramble.

Juventus play their first home game in 21 days tomorrow afternoon in Turin when Genoa comes to town as the Old Lady gets back to the chase for a third straight Scudetto. The same Genoa team that has already changed managers — bringing back Gian Piero Gasperini to the club after Fabio Liverani was sacked at the end of September — starting the season around the same place in the Serie A table where they finished the 2012-13 campaign.

Sounds like a pretty good situation for Juve, doesn't it?

http://markting10.nl/

Well, yeah. And it's not just because Genoa's last five games read as D-L-L-D-W, either. Juventus are coming off a game they feel they should have done better in on the scoreboard. They certainly deserved more than getting a loss with the way they played. What does that mean? That they're going to be angry. And who wants to face Juventus when they're angry?

Don't answer that. You know what I mean. At least I hope you know what I mean.

Back to the topic: What's the key to being at the top of the table? Beating the teams you're supposed to beat.

http://markting10.nl/

I think it's safe to say the way Genoa are going to begin the season, Juventus want to not just win it, but show that Wednesday's performance was just the start of something new rather than a one-time thing amidst a string of so-so performances. Or, maybe in this case, they're getting back to being the Juve of old.

GOOD NEWS

Juventus are playing in front of the hometown crowd for the first time in what seems like a long time. Sure, it was only three weeks ago, but it seems like much longer than that. Juventus fans have had to go elsewhere to see their squad in action. But now, for the first time in three weeks, they won't have to go all that far at all.

http://markting10.nl/

You think Conte is happy to be playing at Juventus Stadium again?

JuventusFC ✔ @juventusfcen

Conte: Our fans are also vital to us and must support us with enthusiasm, hunger and verve from the stands.

Yeah, I think he is. Welcome home, guys.

BAD NEWS

Injuries are still here and making their presence be known. No Stephan Lichtsteiner again. No Mirko Vucinic again. No Fabio Quagliarella again. We've kinda figured that would be the case for the time being, but it still limits Conte's options. And, according to Conte at his pre-match press conference, Sebastian Giovinco has been battling to regain full fitness ever since his heroics against Milan three weeks ago. Great.

http://markting10.nl/

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

1. Post-Champions League letdown.

We've been down this road before. And sometimes it hasn't been the most pleasant of trips. But the reality tells us all that whenever Juventus play in the Champions League, the next league game doesn't go as well as it probably should. That doesn't mean Juve won't take the field and beat Genoa 5-0, but history tells us things might not be as great as we might hope. For whatever reason, the game after the Champions League the past year and change has been an issue for Conte and his squad.

http://markting10.nl/

2. Back to the 3-5-2 in Serie A?

To answer my own question: Yeah, that's exactly what it seems like. Sky Italia is reporting it, same with another one of the other media outlets in Italy. The 4-3-3 may be something Conte goes back to down the road, but for the time being in Serie A, it's back to the norm aka 3-5-2. Obviously the end product — outside of the result — against Real Madrid was very good, one we've been waiting weeks to actually see come to fruition. But with everything pointing to Conte returning to his base three-man defense, it probably shouldn't be all that surprising.

You gotta admit, though, the thought of a three-man attack with Tevez and Giovinco flanking Llorente is enticing in the immediate future. We'll just have to be patient, I guess.

http://markting10.nl/

3. The continued development of Fernando Llorente.

By his own admission, adapting to everything that comes with being a Juventus player wasn't exactly the easiest thing to do for Mr. Llorente. There was learning tactics, learning the system and just shaking off the rust after barely playing at all last season. But since Juventus have come out of the international break, Llorente has played a lot of minutes and showed that he is starting to really get "it." Who knows if this was all the plan or the injuries to Quagliarella and Vucinic helped accelerate his introduction to life as a starting striker at Juventus, but it's nice to see Llorente playing and being productive.

But all of this doesn't matter because Llorente's going to Arsenal in the January transfer window, right?

http://markting10.nl/

4. What kind of squad rotation there will be.

The game following a physical battle in Madrid makes for a perfect time to do some squad rotation. And if you don't think it should be that way, maybe we should go ask Arturo Vidal how he was feeling in the hours following the 2-1 loss in Madrid. Regardless, every indication is that on top of a return to the 3-5-2, there will be some new faces in the starting lineup. Who exactly will rotated in and/or out is obviously still to be determined, but the impression Conte gave during Saturday's presser was that changes are going to happen. Just as long as Marco Motta stays very far away from actually stepping on the field...

http://markting10.nl/

5. The impact of Juventus' wingers.

With an expected switch back to the 3-5-2, that means it's back to having wingbacks in the lineup. That also means trying to keep track of how many crosses actually are on target. So get excited folks! But with somebody like Llorente expected to be on the field, having somebody who can send the ball in from the wing could prove to be valuable. Rumblings say Mauricio Isla is going to start on the right wing with Kwadwo Asamoah on the left, so it still remains to be seen if Juve actually do get production from the two wide players. It'd be nice, I'll tell you that much.

http://markting10.nl/

My starting XI (3-5-2): Storari; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Caceres, Pogba, Pirlo, Marchisio, Asamoah; Llorente, Tevez

Preview: Juventus vs. Genoa

Oct 26, 2013

Juventus switch their focus back to domestic commitments this weekend when they take on Genoa on home turf.

http://markting10.nl/

Juve had a strong run in Serie A by clinching four consecutive victories, but they stumbled to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Fiorentina last weekend, as well as a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Antonio Conte's side have the advantage of being at home when they try to get back on track, while Genoa have lost two of their four matches on the road so far this season.

http://markting10.nl/

The visitors can grab their second victory in a row if they upset Juventus this weekend following a 2-1 win over AC Chievo Verona.

Ricardo Centurion, Alberto Gilardino and Mario Santana are likely to start in attack for Genoa, while Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente should be used as forward threats for Juventus.

Line-ups: Juventus-Genoa

Oct 27, 2013

The pressure is on for Juventus to turn the tide after poor results and they host Gian Piero Gasperini’s revived Genoa.

http://markting10.nl/

It begins at the Juventus Stadium at 15.00 CET.

The Bianconeri have never been in this situation under Antonio Conte, suffering two consecutive defeats between Fiorentina and Real Madrid.

A victory here is essential not only to silence critics, but also to ensure the five-point gap from leaders Roma doesn’t expand.

http://markting10.nl/

Stephan Lichtsteiner, Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella are still unavailable, so Fernando Llorente partners Carlos Tevez again.

Genoa appear to have been revived under Gasperini, earning a draw and a victory since replacing Fabio Liverani.

It’s a return to Turin for Gasp, who was in charge of the Juventus youth team before branching out on his own.

http://markting10.nl/

Emanuele Calaiò is injured, but Francelino Matuzalem is dropped as punishment after he was caught drunk-driving in the city this week.

Francesco Lodi is surprisingly not in the starting XI.

Luca Antonelli is available again after a long lay-off, but Genoa haven’t won in Turin since Tomas Skhuravy’s goal in February 1991.

http://markting10.nl/

Juventus: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Isla, Vidal, Pirlo, Pogba, Asamoah; Tevez, Llorente

Genoa: Perin; Manfredini, Portanova, Antonini; Vrsaljko, Kucka, Biondini, Marchese; Bertolacci, Gilardino, Antonelli.

HT 2-0: Juve lead Genoa

Oct 27, 2013

Juventus have the 2-0 lead over Genoa at half-time thanks to an Arturo Vidal penalty and Carlos Tevez strike.

http://markting10.nl/

The Bianconeri badly needed a boost after two consecutive defeats to Fiorentina and Real Madrid, but were without Fabio Quagliarella, Mirko Vucinic and Stephan Lichtsteiner. Genoa were revived under Gian Piero Gasperini, picking up four points from two games, though Emanuele Calaiò was injured and Francelino Matuzalem dropped as punishment for drunk-driving.

Genoa’s last victory in Turin was down to Tomas Skhuravy’s goal in February 1991, but the only other success was back in 1937.

In the opening minute Paul Pogba fell far too easily under pressure from Daniele Portanova, so the referee waved play on. Pogba had another chance created by Fernando Llorente, but hesitated and allowed Mattia Perin to smother at his feet.

http://markting10.nl/

Perin was again alert to deny Lorente by sticking out a leg, then the crossbar came to his rescue on an Arturo Vidal blockbuster from distance.

Davide Biondini clearly tripped Kwadwo Asamoah right on the edge of the area and the referee opted for a penalty, though it could’ve been centimetres outside. Vidal stepped up and blasted a powerful spot-kick into the roof of the net.

http://markting10.nl/

Andrea Pirlo went forward on the counter and hesitated, eventually allowing Perin to deny his side-foot finish with an excellent save. Pogba’s strike flashed across the face of goal.

Carlos Tevez made it 2-0 with a fine individual move, skipping past a defender to place his angled drive across Perin.

Juventus 2-0 Genoa (Half-Time)

Vidal and Tevez get champions back to winning ways

The Chilean converted a first-half penalty before the striker added
a cool second before the break to seal a comfortable win for Antonio Conte's side.

Oct 27, 2013

First-half goals from Arturo Vidal and Carlos Tevez ensured Juventus got back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 win over Genoa on Sunday.

http://markting10.nl/

A controversial penalty call allowed Vidal to hand his side the lead from the spot after 23 minutes before Argentine striker Tevez latched on to Kwadwo Asamoah's pass to double the advantage before the break.

The visitors had Mattia Perin to thank in the second half for keeping the score respectable, but they struggled to muster meaningful chances of their own, allowing Antonio Conte's side to cruise to a morale-boosting win following recent defeats to Real Madrid and Fiorentina.

Genoa omitted Francelino Matuzalem from their starting XI after the midfielder was caught drink driving this week, while Leonardo Bonucci, Mauricio Isla and Kwadwo Asamoah returned to the Juventus line-up following their 2-1 Champions League defeat to Madrid.

http://markting10.nl/

Perin thwarted Paul Pogba in the 12th minute as the midfielder failed to get the ball out of his feet before Llorente's lofted follow-up was also saved.

His next stop from the same player was far more impressive – reacting to keep out a point-blank volley having palmed Tevez's right-wing centre towards the former Athletic Bilbao striker.

The crossbar came to Perin's rescue in the 19th minute as Vidal's crisply struck 25-yarder cannoned to safety.

http://markting10.nl/

Giorgio Chiellini then headed narrowly over from a corner and Genoa's laboured resistance was finally broken when Davide Biondin sent Asamoah tumbling in the area, although the contact appeared to be fractionally outside the box. Vidal dispatched the spot-kick emphatically.

Perin was called into action with another superb save three minutes later, this time denying Andrea Pirlo, who skilfully held off Thomas Manfredini to get a shot away.

Biondini was almost the Genoa villain again on the half-hour mark when he was needlessly dispossessed by Pogba, only for the ex-Manchester United man to shoot beyond the far post.

http://markting10.nl/

Tevez added the seemingly-inevitable second goal for Juve, shielding the ball from Juraj Kucka after collecting Asamoah's low cross and swivelling away from Sime Vrsaljko before drilling home a left-footed strike.

Genoa boss Gian Piero Gasperini made a double change at the interval, sending on Giannis Fetfatzidis and Moussa Konate in place of Luca Antonelli and Alberto Gilardino, while also altering his team's shape to match the host's 3-5-2 formation.

http://markting10.nl/

Juventus' forwards once again found Perin in inspired form as he beat away a venomous 52nd-minute drive from Tevez and touched over Llorente's first-time attempt from the rebound.

The match began to meander as Juventus sat comfortably on what they had and Genoa still failed to make any significant attacking impression.

Juve are now level on 22 points with second-placed Napoli and hot on the heels of leaders Roma, while Genoa sit just above the relegation zone with two wins from nine matches.

Perin needed a double save after the restart on both Tevez and Llorente, but the second half was basically a training session. The only real scare was seven minutes from time when Giorgio Chiellini stuck out a foot to stop Konate’s cross reaching Centurion in the middle.

Bianconeri dominate Grifone

n1fi8k.jpg

Oct 27, 2013

Juventus put a difficult week behind them as the Bianconeri defeated long-time rivals Genoa for the 12th straight time in Turin, 2-0, thanks to goals from Arturo Vidal and Carlos Tevez at the Juventus Stadium.

http://markting10.nl/

Genoa had picked up four points from six follwing the return of Gian Piero Gasperini, while Juventus had lost to Fiorentina last Sunday before their midweek Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.

The opening half an hour was all Juventus as the two-time Scudetto winners continually terrorised the Grifone. The Bianconeri were relentless in their attack and pushed the Genoa defence back into their own penalty area often.

In the 12th minute Paul Pogba had the chance to put Juventus into the lead, but failed to convert a clear-cut opportunity as Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin made the save. Fernando Llorente’s rebound shot was also saved, but a Juventus goal was coming.

http://markting10.nl/

Pogba and Llorente continued to find spaces in the Genoa defence and their work led to Kwadwo Asamoah getting the best of Sime Vrsaljko on the edge of the box where he was brought down by Davide Biondini. Though replays showed he was outside of the area when he was tackled, the referee pointed to the spot. Arturo Vidal calmly stepped up and put the Bianconeri into the lead.

Just as Juventus’ attack was dominate throughout the first half, their defence still looked shaky and Genoa’s counterattack nearly got them back into the game. But the team were unable to find a way into the final third.

Despite Mattia Perin’s fantastic saves, however, Juventus got their second courtesy of Tevez. The Argentine completely embarrassed Vrsaljko, sweeping the ball past the Croatian and calmly sliding it into the back of the net past Perin.

http://markting10.nl/

Genoa made two changes at halftime as Gasperini brought on Greek Ioannis Fetfatzidis and Moussa Konate who came on for Alberto Gilardino.

Despite the changes, Juventus were still in the ascendancy as Perin was again called into action to make a double save in the 52nd minute. First saving Tevez’s shot and then Llorente’s strike. Juventus looked extremely dangerous yet again.

As the hour mark loomed, Genoa finally showed some life; but without Gilardino to hold-up the ball and get on to the end of crosses, Genoa were unable to capitalise on their possession.

http://markting10.nl/

The team’s midfield were no match for Juventus as Juraj Kucka and Biondini were unable to retain the ball and complete a defence-splitting pass.

With Genoa’s inability to create anything of note, the Bianconeri coolly cruised to a 2-0 victory and looked like, at least in attack, the Juventus of old.

Initial reaction and random observations

14961e0.jpg

Oct 27, 2013

These were Giorgio Chiellini's words leading up to Juventus' game against Genoa on Sunday.

http://markting10.nl/

"Despite the defeat in Madrid, we realised that we can battle it out with the top clubs. We emerged with our heads held high and it sparked something within us, something that had recently been lost. Now the step up in quality will be repeating that performance against Genoa, Catania and Parma. We must begin again from Real Madrid and forget the final 15 minutes against Fiorentina, where something completely unpredictable happened."

After Juve's 2-0 win at Juventus Stadium, I think it's safe to say Chiellini and his teammates were able to back up the industrious defender's words.

It was a dominant Juve, one that certainly played with a purpose and showed it was the better team from pretty much the opening kickoff onwards. Even when they went up by two goals — the most dangerous lead in football to have — Juve never really wavered at all. There were no defensive breakdowns that caused a Genoa goal like we've seen against other teams some of the other games this season.

http://markting10.nl/

No, this was a Juve that was solid in just about every area other than the finishing in front of goal. They entered as the vastly superior team, they showed that during the game, and they left the field with a much-deserved victory.

It's a simple formula, you guys. And over the last couple of games, Juve are starting to show that they're getting back to who they really are. That's pretty good news to hear. Having a boring second half was perfectly okay with me.

JuventusFC ✔ @juventusfcen
Conte: It was a good performance. The difference from the last two fixtures was that we got what we deserved this afternoon

http://markting10.nl/

Random thoughts and observations

•Carlos Tevez was fantastic — again. Contributing defensively to win the ball back, creating scoring chances for himself and his teammates, the guy just works his tail off. Just how involved? Tevez had 71 touches in the game, Genoa's two strikers — Alberto Gilardino and Andrea Bertolacci — had 81 combined. Just another great game by a guy who has had a fair share of them to begin his Juve career.

Five goals in nine Serie A games (eight starts). I'd say that's a pretty good return on Juve's investment.

•Speaking of strikers, Fernando Llorente deserved a goal. He's continuing to build on each performance and his rapport with Tevez is beginning to develop as well. He was patient and waited for his opportunity and now that he's getting it, the results are starting to show up.

http://markting10.nl/

•I kept thinking to myself, "If Mattia Perin can play like this consistently, he's going to turn into one hell of a goalkeeper." The overwhelming majority of Perin's seven saves against Juventus were very good. But as we've seen in the early stages of his career, the moments of brilliance can easily be replaced by moments of, well, not very good. He's still just 20 years old, so there's plenty of time for him to develop. It's just hard not to think about how good of keeper he could be if he figures it all out in the next couple of years.

•On the other end of the field, Gigi Buffon had to barely do anything at all. I guess that's a sign that it was a vintage, dominating performance by Juventus.

•Andrea Pirlo: 129 touches, 94 percent pass completion. Genoa gave him room to operate and he took full advantage of it.

http://markting10.nl/

•How nice was it to have Kwadwo Asamoah making his presence be known on the left wing? Even with a penalty that looked to be outside of the box, the Ghanian was damn good the entire game. He was very involved, put in some dangerous crosses, and his assist on Tevez's goal was only proof of that.

•Saw this question posed on Twitter: Who would you rather have take your penalties, Arturo Vidal or Mario Balotelli? Pretty good one to think about.

•A Juventus clean sheet, huh? It's nice to see you again. It's been awhile, my friend.

Juventus 2-0 Genoa

es6khw.jpg

Oct 27, 2013

Goals from Arturo Vidal and Carlos Tevez earned Juventus a comfortable 2-0 victory over Genoa in Turin but the reigning Serie A champions remain five points off the pace.

http://markting10.nl/

It was a return to form for Juve, who lost at Fiorentina before suffering a Champions League defeat at Real Madrid in midweek, and the swashbuckling football on display on Sunday afternoon will go some way to reassuring coach Antonio Conte that his club can still achieve their aim of winning a third straight Scudetto.

Summer signings Fernando Llorente and Tevez were particularly impressive around the visiting goal, which was admirably protected by rookie goalkeeper Mattia Perin, but it was Vidal who opened the scoring with a penalty.

A superb solo effort from Tevez then made the points safe before half-time to keep the Bianconeri four points clear of resurgent Inter Milan and tied with Napoli for second place.

http://markting10.nl/

Roma, however, are out of reach after winning their ninth consecutive game at the expense of Udinese.

Juve began the season determined to prosper on multiple fronts but sub-par performances have seen the Turin club struggle both at home and in Europe.

The first half only yielded two goals when perhaps five or six were possible, but Conte's men produced a formidable display to remind their rivals just what they are capable of.

http://markting10.nl/

Llorente dazzled in the opening minutes, Paul Pogba arriving just too late to tuck the Spaniard's pass away.

The former Athletic Bilbao striker excelled himself with a perfect assist to Pogba and this time Perin was lucky to win a duel with the powerful Frenchman.

Genoa's goalkeeper held the Juve machine back a little longer with a superb save on Llorente from two yards and Vidal only had himself to blame when slamming the ball against the bar in the 19th minute.

http://markting10.nl/

Another chance went begging for the Italian champions when Giorgio Chiellini headed inches wide of the mark.

Perin would pull off another miracle save, this time on the onrushing Andrea Pirlo, but in the 23nd minute he was picking the ball out of his net.

It had been a marginal call when Davide Biondini felled Kwadwo Asamoah just inside the Genoa box.

http://markting10.nl/

That was irrelevant to Vidal, though, and he converted the penalty with a minimum of fuss.

Juve pushed for their second goal and Pogba nearly found it after robbing Biondini on the edge of the area, but his shot was wayward.

Tevez made amends in the 36th minute.

http://markting10.nl/

A magnificent dribbling run left Genoa's defence standing still before an unstoppable strike evaded Perin to cap a remarkable first-half display from Juve.

The interval was a welcome break for Perin who soon found himself making a double save on deadly duo Llorente and Tevez when play resumed.

http://markting10.nl/

Vidal and Tevez teamed up with a view to extending their team's lead and adding to their own personal tallies but it was Llorente who deserved to score the third goal, his left-footed effort screeching wide with Perin left stranded.

Juve had already done enough to win, but goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was relieved keep a clean sheet after watching Ioannis Fetfatzidis head over his bar from a sumptuous cross from Sime Vrsaljko in stoppage time.

Juventus back to winning ways against Genoa

Oct 27, 2013

After suffering two consecutive defeats, there was only one thing Juventus had to do: secure a resounding victory. They did just that against Genoa, running out 2-0 winners. Displaying hunger, intensity and an overwhelming attacking style of play that has won them two titles under Antonio Conte, the Champions of Italy proved why they are still the most feared team in Serie A.

Against Real Madrid they were unlucky, but against Genoa, Juventus merited the victory and perhaps ought to have won by a larger margin. Kwadwo Asamoah proved immense; Carlitos Tevez scored a golazo, Arturo Vidal provided relentless energy and even Mauricio Isla looked good as he displayed tactical intelligence.

At times, defeats are a blessing in disguise and for the mighty Old Lady, they have helped her recover that hunger for a win that has intimidated her many opponents. From the opening whistle Juventus pushed and fought for an early goal. Slow to shoot, chances were wasted and crossbars were hit but Genoa's Mattia Perin deserves a medal for the number of magnificent saves he was forced to make to keep his side in the game.

Yet despite the courage of the men in black and white, it took a penalty to break the deadlock, one that arrived despite the fact the foul appeared to have been committed outside the box. Vidal converted in a manner only he knows how.

http://markting10.nl/

Genoa, it appeared, arrived to Turin with the idea of soaking up the pressure before counter-attacking with pace. Deployed in a 4-4-1-1 shape, they were often found defending with five at the back in a 5-4-1 formation. Yet despite the number of bodies, their lack of organisation made them vulnerable at the back and they were forced to deal with a proud Juve side desperate to get back to winning ways.

Only few men in football could manage the rare moment of beauty that led to Juve's second goal. Tevez dribbled past a defender to manage an angled drive at goal. Another moment of brilliance from a man who arrived for so little money and with many wondering if he had the work ethic required to succeed in a Conte led team. However, the Argentine's quality coupled with his hard work have won over his many critics and firmly secured his place in the hearts of the fans.

In the second half, Juventus somewhat eased off. They displayed maturity and intelligence to control the game even if their desperation no longer saw them push forward with ferocity. However, Genoa failed to capitalise and simply accepted their inferiority as evidenced by their failure to react, preferring to preserve their energy for future matches.

http://markting10.nl/

Defensively, the home side celebrated a mini success in that they managed their second clean sheet of the season. The wing-backs proved tactically more intelligent and quickly adopted their positions when the side lost possession. If Andrea Barzagli was forward, Isla ran back to cover and Asamoah proved excellent, in both stages of the game. However, what is interesting is how little the team rely on Isla in the march forward. Few teammates opted to include him in their offensive play, usually preferring to deliver the ball to the left to depend on Asamoah's skill. In due time it is hoped Isla will earn his teammates' trust with better performances from the wide areas.

Despite 70 minutes of great football against Fiorentina and a strong performance against Real Madrid, Juventus have been subjected to two consecutive defeats. Their win against Genoa was fully deserved and showed that when the pressure is on, the Bianconeri have pride and a desire to compete in every challenge.

For a squad that are always expected to perform, expectations can at times be too high; the reason being that we know how good Conte's team can be when they perform to the best of their ability. With renewed motivation and an increase in intensity, Juve are still the team to beat in Serie A, even if Roma are breaking records with incredible wins this season.

Juventus back to winning ways

25pqr0g.jpg

Oct 27, 2013

Juventus have ended a difficult week by securing their seventh win from nine in Serie A this season, running out comfortable 2-0 winners over struggling Genoa.

http://markting10.nl/

Antonio Conte returned to a three-man backline after experimenting with 4-3-3 in midweek, with Leonardo Bonucci restored to a familiar backline.

The Old Lady started strongly in their preferred system but their opening goal came in contentious fashion, after they got the benefit of a penalty decision midway through the first half.

Genoa felt that Kwadwo Asamoah went down under a trip from Davide Biondini following contact just outside the penalty area, but the referee disagreed and pointed to the spot.

http://markting10.nl/

Arturo Vidal stepped up to break the deadlock, smashing home his penalty in assured fashion.

Andrea Pirlo then forced Mattia Perin into a smart stop from range, but home pressure eventually told as Juve doubled their advantage before the interval.

Carlos Tevez was the man to get their second, dribbling past his marker before aiming a clever snapshot beyond Perin and inside the far corner.

http://markting10.nl/

Asamoah proved to be a consistent outlet for the Bianconeri when play resumed, while Sebastian Giovinco replaced Fernando Llorente in search of further goals.

Much of the second half was played at a slower tempo but Genoa were unable to mount a response, with Conte's side maintaining their advantage comfortably to close out a routine home victory.

Conte: 'Juve dominated'

24flctw.jpg

Oct 27, 2013

Antonio Conte was pleased with a “dominant” Juventus against Genoa and praised Serie A leaders Roma.

http://markting10.nl/

“It was a good performance, just as it was against Real Madrid and in Florence for the first 70 minutes. We didn’t get what we deserved in recent games,” he told Sky Sport Italia of the 2-0 victory.

“I liked the approach from my team straight away, as we dominated, scored two early goals and could’ve had more.

“We finished this game unbeaten, so that’s news....” smiled Conte.

http://markting10.nl/

“We have to keep working on what we’re doing with more intensity. Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente are getting to know each other and settling into the new reality of Serie A. They are doing what I want and what the team needs.

“When there are defeats we try to be constructive and learn from mistakes rather than assign blame.”

http://markting10.nl/

Roma are breaking away at the top of the table with a 1-0 win away to Udinese.

“I must tip my hat to Roma, because winning nine consecutive games is extraordinary and makes Napoli and Juventus look bad!”

Player Ratings

Goal were on hand to see Antonio Conte's side get back to winning ways at Juventus Stadium
as Arturo Vidal and Carlos Tevez earned maximum points in Turin.

Oct 27, 2013

Juventus

Gianluigi Buffon
- A spectator for the whole 90 minutes. Didn't have a save to make and barely had to even touch the ball.

Andrea Barzagli - A solid display at the heart of the defence as he made plenty of interceptions and won his fair share of headers. Not properly tested but did well.

Leonardo Bonucci - Was guilty of giving the ball away in dangerous positions on at least two occasions and wasn't as assured as his colleagues in defence.

Giorgio Chiellini - Saw plenty of the ball as the home side kept possession well. Broke up play well and almost got himself on the scoresheet with powerful first-half header.

Mauricio Isla - A threat coming forward on the right but final ball was sometimes lacking. Wasn't tested enough in defence by Genoa wide men.

Paul Pogba - Missed two very good chances but made up for it with workmanlike display in midfield. Sometimes guilty of losing the ball but assured in possession more often than not.

Andrea Pirlo - Kept the ball well and showed glimpses of talent with some sumptious passing. Delivery from set-pieces was surprisingly lacking throughout.

Arturo Vidal - Expertly converted from the penalty spot after seeing earlier effort crash off the crossbar. Won plenty of tackles in midfield in excellent display.

Kwadwo Asamoah - Won first-half penalty before neat footwork set up Tevez's strike. A real threat on the left-hand side and deserved standing ovation when substituted.

Carlos Tévez - Took goal expertly and was a constant menace in and around the box. Could have had a hat-trick on another day whilst his passing was also exceptional.

Fernando Llorente - Struggled in front of goal despite having numerous chances. Still working on partnership with Tevez up front.

http://markting10.nl/

Substitutions

Paolo De Ceglie
- Had little time to make an impact after late substitutes appearance.

Simone Padoin - Failed to make an impact after replacing Vidal in closing stages.

Sebastian Giovinco - Showed willing but never got into the game after late appearance from the bench.

http://markting10.nl/

Genoa

Mattia Perin
- Easily the visitors' standout performer as he repeatedly kept Juventus at bay. Had no chance with either goal and can leave with his head held high.

Luca Antonini - Failed to deal with Asamoah and Pogba effectively in the first half but got slightly better in the second period.

Thomas Manfredini- Failed to deal with Tevez and was repeatedly left for dead by the striker. Must do better against quality strikers.

Daniele Portanova - The better of Genoa's two cente-backs as he made some excellent clearances under pressure. Gave ball away in possession regularly though.

Luca Antonelli - Substituted at half-time after anonymous first half display. Barely had a touch on the left-hand side.

Giovanni Marchese - Had only Genoa shot until stoppage time but it was certainly nothing to write home about. Had a poor game defensively.

Sime Vrsaljko - Showed some nice touches but only real piece of quality came in stoppage time. Didn't do enough to help in defence during first half.

Davide Biondini - Conceded penalty and regularly committed fouls. Lost the ball repeatedly though improved as the match went on.

Juraj Kucka - Very disappointing in the middle of the park as he lost the ball on a regular basis. Wasted Genoa's best opportunity as he dithered in possession.

Andrea Bertolacci - Worked hard but didn't have the quality to trouble Juventus' midfield and defence. Substituted in the second half.

Alberto Gilardino - Did not have any quality service to get on the end of and harshly withdrawn at half-time. Defeat certainly not his fault.

http://markting10.nl/

Substitutions

Giannis Fetfatzidis
- Showed plenty of nice touches after half-time introduction as looked the most threatening Genoa player in attack. Missed good chance in stoppage time.

Adrián Ricardo Centurión - Had little time to make an impact after late substitute appearance.

Moussa Konaté - Struggled to get into the game after half-time introduction. Didn't make enough space for himself to get in possession on a regular basis.

Conte impressed by Tevez & Llorente strike partnership

The Juventus boss believes the two forwards are continuing to adapt
to the demands of Serie A while also paying tribute to early leaders Roma.

Oct 27, 2013

Juventus coach Antonio Conte thinks Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente are quickly developing into an attacking partnership to fear in Italy.

http://markting10.nl/

The duo led the line as the champions recovered from recent defeats to Fiorentina and Real Madrid by beating Genoa 2-0 on Sunday, with Tevez scoring the second goal.

Conte says he is delighted to see that the duo are continuing to improve as they get used to playing in Serie A following their summer moves from Manchester City and Athletic Bilbao respectively.

He told Sky Sport Italia: "Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente are getting to know each other and settling into the new reality of Serie A.

http://markting10.nl/

"They are doing exactly what I want and what the team needs.

"Llorente is growing; we have been patient because we knew of his qualities. But I expect him to grow even more."

Talking about the victory over Genoa, in which Arturo Vidal opened the scoring with a penalty, Conte was full of praise for his team's display after a difficult week for the club on the pitch.

http://markting10.nl/

"It was a good performance, just as it was against Real Madrid and in the game with Fiorentina for the first 70 minutes. We didn't get what we deserved in recent games. We have to keep working on what we're doing with more intensity.

"I liked the approach from my team straight away. We dominated, scored two early goals and could've had more.

"When there are defeats we try to be constructive and learn from mistakes rather than assign blame."

http://markting10.nl/

Asked about the other results, including 10-man Roma's 1-0 victory over Udinese, Conte was happy to congratulate his team's title rivals for their stunning start to the campaign.

He added: "I must tip my hat to Roma, because winning nine consecutive games is extraordinary and makes Napoli and Juventus look bad!"

Chiellini: Juventus were ruthless

The Bianconeri defender was very satisfied with the way
the Scudetto holders bounced back after two consecutive defeats.

Oct 28, 2013

Giorgio Chiellini has hailed Juventus' aggressive approach in their 2-0 Serie A win over Genoa at the weekend, believing they showed their true character again after the Champions League defeat against Real Madrid in midweek.

http://markting10.nl/

Arturo Vidal opened the scoring halfway through the first half when he converted a spot kick, before Carlos Tevez made it two shortly after to help the reigning champions to three points.

And Chiellini was delighted with his side's display following their Champions League disappointment.

"We analysed everything over the past few days and saw that certain things could have gone differently. But I can say that I saw the right spark in Madrid and today we once again saw another Juventus, ruthless and aggressive, just as the coach wants," Chiellini told reporters.

http://markting10.nl/

"We started with the right anger and aggression and swarmed Genoa in the first half. Only an inspired [Mattia] Perin performance prevented us from adding to our tally.

"Now we’ll be confident in approaching Wednesday’s game against Catania."

Juventus currently sit third in Serie A with 22 points from nine games, trailing leaders Roma by five points.

Season is long, says Tevez

ri9m5z.jpg

Oct 28, 2013

Juventus forward Carlos Tevez is not overly concerned with Roma’s unstoppable Serie A charge at this stage of the season.

http://markting10.nl/

The Giallorossi made it nine wins from nine at Udinese on Sunday, thus maintaining their five-point advantage over Juve and Napoli.

“It’s no problem, there’s a long way to go,” the Argentine stated when asked about another three points for the Giallorossi.

“The important thing is that we carry on playing like this.”

http://markting10.nl/

The summer signing from Manchester City was speaking after he scored in the 2-0 win over Genoa – a victory which came after losses at Fiorentina and Real Madrid.

“We needed to respond to our defeat in Florence and we managed to do just that,” he added. “We played in the way that boss Antonio Conte had asked us to.

“Am I a leader and example? I’m always keen to help out my teammates, especially since people were saying that we were in crisis.”

The Old Lady entertain Catania in the midweek round.

Oct 28, 2013

Juventus can close the gap on Serie A leaders Roma on Wednesday when they play host to struggling Catania.

http://markting10.nl/

Antonio Conte's side, who are currently five points off the top of the table, come into the match on the back of Sunday's 2-0 win at home to Genoa.

Catania travel to the Juventus Stadium without a win in three matches - a run that has seen them stay out of the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference.

http://markting10.nl/

Their last result came at the weekend when they drew 0-0 with Sassuolo.

Juve will be without Fabio Quagliarella, Mirko Vucinic, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Simone Pepe.

Kingsley Boateng could return for the visitors, while Fabian Monzon is expected to miss out.

Team News, Tactics, Possible Line-ups And Prediction

Oct 28, 2013

Juventus showed signs of getting back to their best form as they dispatched Genoa over the weekend. Their next opponents Catania have started the season extremely poorly but have managed to get some points in last four matches.

http://markting10.nl/

Team News and Tactical Brief

JUVENTUS

After two back to back defeats in the span of just four days, Juventus needed a strong result against Genoa at home and Antonio Conte’s side responded in style. The Old Lady was in firm control right from kick-off, camping in Genoa half and creating a flurry of chances. Mattia Perin was in inspired form and made at least half a dozen top drawers saves while Arturo Vidal struck the frame once. Despite Perin, Juventus raced to a 2-0 lead at half time with Arturo Vidal converting a dodgy penalty and Carlos Tevez slotting a well taken goal after a pass from Kwadwo Asamoah. The second half was a quieter affair with Juventus slowing things down. There were no more goals in this match but importantly, the Juventus defence often under fire this season, kept their first home clean-sheet as their opponents failed to get a single shot on target.

http://markting10.nl/

Juve is likely to retain the 3-5-2 formation against Catania as per most media reports. Mauricio Isla had a relatively solid outing against Genoa and may get yet another start as right wing-back as the club keeps up its effort to bring up the Chilean’s confidence. The trio of Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellini also looked comfortable against Genoa but one of them may get some rest against Catania with either Martin Caceres or Angelo Ogbonna getting a shout. Claudio Marchisio was rested against Genoa and is likely to get back a starting spot. Asamoah had one his best games as a left wing-back on the weekend, adding to his strong performance against Fiorentina in first half of the previous round. The Ghanaian was pulled out late in second half and should be back as the starting LWB against Catania.

Fernando Llorente is steadily growing in confidence and was rather unlucky to have not scored at least once last weekend. His hold up play, ability to play with his back towards the goal and extremely good first touch created ample space for both Vidal and Tevez. The former Athletic Bilbao striker is likely to start with Carlos Tevez, who notched his fifth goal in eight matches for Juventus against Genoa.

http://markting10.nl/

Possible Starting XI (3-5-2): Buffon; Chiellini, Bonucci, Caceres; Isla, Marchisio, Pirlo, Vidal, Asamoah; Llorente, Tevez

Juventus-cATANIA.jpg

CATANIA

Catania have been on an upward curve for last three seasons. In 2010/11 they finished 13th before improving by two spots the following season. In 2012/13 they were one of the biggest surprise packages in the league and for large parts of the season seemed like clinching a spot in Europe. They eventually fell short of European slots but nonetheless, finished a highly creditable 8th, ahead of Internazionale. Their progress though, seems to have hit a bumper so far this season. With just six points from 9 matches the Sicilians find themselves just one place above relegation zone, just because of goal difference. The last few rounds have shown some signs of recovery with Gli Elefanti losing only once in four matches. Their biggest problem so far has been scoring goals and their tally of six goals in the lowest in league till now. Catania also has never defeated Juventus in the Conte era and have lost each of their last three head to head clashes.

http://markting10.nl/

Luigi Di Canio was employed a few days back after Catania management decided that Rolando Maran was no longer suited for the job. Di Canio may field a 4-3-3 formation but his main intention will be pull back the attacking wingers into more defensive positions and match Juventus’ midfield’s superiority. Former Juventus defender Nicola Legrottaglie will make a return to Turin and is likely to start at the heart of Elefanti defence. Catania’s defence has not been as poor as their table position and they have conceded lesser goals than the likes of Milan and Torino who are placed in mid-table. 24 year old Uruguayan Alexis Rolin is likely partner Legrottaglie in central defence.

Another former Juventus player, Sergio Almiron has been a regular starter for Catania this season. The Argentine midfielder will have the enviable task of shutting down an in-form Arturo Vidal in central midfield. 22 year old Greek midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis had an unflattering season at Roma last season but has done reasonably well in Catania so far. His passing % leaves a lot to be desired but his defensive shift may make a difference in Juventus stadium.

http://markting10.nl/

Pablo Barrientos has scored 3 goals from 12 shots in seven matches but has been largely off colour in most of the games. Juventus defence has been error prone this season but with the Argentine likely to operate in a more defensive against the three Juve defenders, things will get very difficult for him.

Possible Starting XI (4-3-3): Andujar; Alvarez, Legrottaglie, Rolin, Biraghi; Plasil, Almiron, Tachtsidis; Castro, Bergessio, Barrientos

Players to Watch Out For

Arturo Vidal (Juventus)

The Chilean’s form in past one month has been a bit dodgy and he looked out of sorts after coming on as a substitute against Fiorentina. Like the true warrior that he is, Vidal pulled his act together and was possibly the best player on the pitch against Real Madrid. The midfielder coolly slotted a penalty against Genoa and was in general involved in most of the attacking moves. Vidal is likely to become the best paid Juventus player soon and will be looking to continue his strong run of form.

Jaroslav Plašil (Catania)

The experienced Czech midfielder was brought on loan from Bordeaux to add some quality to Catania midfield. With 22 successful long balls out of 28 attempted, Plašil is one of the most creative players in the team. The 31 year old will come up against one of the strongest midfields in the continent and his performance in middle of the park will be vital for the away team.

http://markting10.nl/

Prediction

Juventus 2-0 Catania

Form book is likely to hold the key with Juventus playing in home. Conte will be looking to maintain the positive momentum with big clashes against Real Madrid and Napoli coming up soon.
