Carlos Tevez: 'Roberto Mancini arrival
would not have forced exit'

Jul 23, 2014

Carlos Tevez has dismissed suggestions that he would have asked to leave Juventus if the club had appointed Roberto Mancini as their new manager.

The Argentine had a difficult relationship with Mancini during their time at Manchester City, but Tevez insists that he never asked Giuseppe Marotta, the club's CEO, any questions about who was going to replace Antonio Conte prior to the arrival of Massimiliano Allegri.

"I have never spoke with Marotta about this," the forward told reporters. "The club is based on respect and I doubt the thoughts of a player could change anything.

"Those who write these stories should have more respect.

"I have never thought to leave - I've signed for three years and I want to end my contract here, staying with my team-mates."

Mancini is currently without a club following his departure from Galatasaray.

Tevez father kidnapped

Jul 29, 2014

Argentine newspaper Clarin claims the father of Juventus star Carlos Tevez has been kidnapped.

It is reported Segundo Tevez was carjacked at 5am this morning in Morón and that two calls have been received asking for a ransom.

Some sources suggest a ransom has already been paid to the captors.

It is speculated the first request was relatively low and the second much higher, as the kidnappers had not realised their victim was the father of one of Argentina’s most famous football players.

This would suggest it was not a targeted attack, but rather they had spotted the expensive car and made their move.

Italian media now maintain Tevez has already left the Juventus training camp in Turin and is flying to Buenos Aires today.

Tevez’s father freed after kidnap

The Juventus striker’s father has been released by criminals
after being held for a ransom for over eight hours.

Jul 29, 2014

According to reports in Argentina, Carlos Tevez’s father has been freed after being kidnapped and held for ransom for over eight hours.

The incident happened in the outskirts of the capital city Buenos Aires at around 7am when Juan Alberto Cabral’s car was hijacked, Argentina newspaper La Nacion has reported.

The offenders contacted Tevez’s family and made an initial demand that was much lower than a second request for ransom a short while later.

Police investigated the incident and Tevez travelled to his home country to help deal with the matter.

Tevez in Turin after kidnap

Jul 29, 2014

Carlos Tevez has returned to Turin after his father was freed by kidnappers in Argentina, but won’t play Cesena-Juventus.

The striker had reportedly been rushing to an airport for the first flight to Buenos Aires when news emerged his father had been kidnapped this morning.

However, Segundo Tevez (and not the previously reported name Juan Carlos Cabral) is now with local police – it’s not clear whether a ransom was paid.

Juventus have left Tevez out of their squad for tomorrow’s friendly in Cesena, citing “family reasons.”

However, the forward is staying in Turin after all.

Carlos Tevez pays $400,000
ransom for kidnapped father

Eight hours after being taken hostage in Argentina, Segundo Tevez was
let go by his captors in exchange for the alleged six-figure payoff.

Jul 29, 2014

Juventus star Carlos Tevez reportedly paid $400,000 for the release of his father from kidnappers in Argentina, where criminals frequently target high-profile athletes and their families in exchange for lucrative ransoms.

Eight hours after being taken hostage in Moron, a suburb Buenos Aires, Segundo Tevez was let go by his captors at 2:00 p.m. local time Tuesday, Ole of Argentina reported. The release was announced by the family's lawyer.

"He is doing well," attorney Gustavo Galass said in a brief statement to the media.

Argentina's secretary of homeland security, Sergio Berni, confirmed that Tevez suffered an "extortive kidnapping" while vowing to bring those responsible to justice.

"We will search for them under every bed if necessary and we'll find them"

Tevez left the Juventus preseason camp in Italy and is flying to Argentina to be with his father, who is actually a maternal uncle who legally adopted him years ago.

The kidnappers were reportedly seeking a quick payout before discovering their hostage's identity, which led to hours of negotiations and demands before the $400,000 ransom was agreed upon. Tevez's lawyer provided no details about an alleged payment.

Tevez is the latest Argentine soccer star to pay off kidnappers in exchange for a family member’s freedom.

Fellow former Boca Juniors idol Juan Roman Riquelme was forced to negotiate the release of his brother from captors in 2002. That same year, siblings Diego and Gabriel Milito spent $100,000 for the return of their father, who was kidnapped a block away from his house.

Tevez: 'My father is safe'

Jul 29, 2014

Juventus striker Carlos Tevez broke his silence on the kidnapping ordeal. “My father is well, healthy and safe.”

Segundo Tevez was kidnapped this morning while driving his car and police confirmed a ransom was paid for his release after eight hours.

“I thank everyone for their support,” wrote Tevez on his Twitter account.

“My father is well, healthy and safe. That’s the most important thing! I also thank Daniel Scioli, Mauricio Macri and the Buenos Aires federal police anti-kidnapping department for supporting my family.

“I ask you to come together and fight to take the country forward. Because here we should not pull for any political party, as we have to fight together.

"With sadness I admit it will be easy to criticise my country, but with all its flaws and virtues it is the country I love."

Tevez had been on his way to the airport for a flight to Buenos Aires when news came through his father had been released.

The forward therefore remained in Turin, but won’t take part in tomorrow’s game against Cesena.

Mauricio Macri and Daniel Scioli are the governors of Buenos Aires province and the city of Buenos Aires.

Tevez relieved after father's kidnap

The striker's Dad was car-jacked by a group of men near
Argentina's capital of Buenos Aires but is now back with his family.

Jul 30, 2014

Carlos Tevez has confirmed his father is safe and well after his kidnapping ordeal and thanked fans for their messages of support.
Segundo Tevez was reportedly carjacked by a group of men in Moron, west of Argentina's capital city of Buenos Aries, on Tuesday.

Argentinian police stated that the men had made calls demanding a ransom, although Carlos Tevez's lawyer, Gustavo Galasso, later told television channel C5N the Juventus striker's father had been freed and was "in good shape".

Carlos Tevez Tweeted: "I thank everyone for their support always.

"I'm able to tell you my father is okay, safe and sound. That's what's most important.

"I also thank.. .the Buenos Aires and federal and anti-kidnapping police [forces] for their support for my family."

Tevez was reportedly set to fly back to his homeland on Tuesday, but is thought to have remained in Italy following news of his father's release.

Kidnappers hope for Carlos Tevez forgiveness

Aug 1, 2014

The men who kidnapped Carlos Tevez's father earlier this week said that they hope the Argentine striker can forgive their actions.

Segundo Tevez was released after eight hours once the Juventus forward reportedly paid a 40,000 peso (£3,000) ransom.

According to the Daily Mirror, Tevez Sr told the police that the gang said: "Carlos is our idol. He's the greatest there is. We don't want to hurt him. Why would we?

"The problem is we've got children and we need the money. We haven't got any alternative. We hope he forgives us."

The family's lawyer confirmed that Tevez's father was "in good shape" following his release.

Martino: Doors open to Tevez

Aug 15, 2014

Tata Martino has ‘opened the doors’ to the Argentine national team to everyone, including Juventus forward Carlos Tevez.

The 30-year-old has not played for the Albiceleste since 2011 having fallen out of favour with Alejandro Sabella, missing this summer’s World Cup as a result.

However, with Sabella’s exit after the 2014 tournament final, Tevez has had the new Coach indicate his international career may not yet be entirely over.

“All the Argentine footballers will have the doors open to them,” Martino has told reporters at his presentation as the new head Coach.

“Tevez-Sabella? The decision was purely on football. I do not think any player has had the doors closed.”

Tevez on Argentina, England and Italy

Aug 16, 2014

Juventus hitman Carlos Tevez sees differences between Argentina, the English Premier League and Serie A.

The former Manchester City and Manchester United forward spoke to Today Online ahead of the friendly match in Singapore.

“We Argentineans work hard on our skills and we are so passionate about the game,” said Carlitos.

“That’s why you see so many Argentineans playing professional football all over the world, even in Singapore and Malaysia. We are a determined lot, we can make a success out of wherever we play.”

Tevez has experienced football in England and now in Italy, so can see differences.

“Life in the English Premier League is different. So too Italian football, the way they train, the football culture and even the food. But I have no problem with that.”

Apache also had praise for Bianconeri teammate Andrea Pirlo.

“Pirlo is a phenomenon. He is such a wonderful player, blessed with so much skill and talent and I have always enjoyed playing alongside him. He makes Juventus tick, especially in midfield.”

Tevez, Higuain and the contenders to be
Serie A top scorer this season

The departure of last season's top scorer Ciro Immobile means the race

for the Capocannoniere is wide open heading into the new term.

Goal takes a look at the main contenders.

Aug 27, 2014

Serie A returns this weekend and it is set to be an enticing and competitive campaign as several teams look to bring an end to Juventus' era of dominance.

Following the transfer of last season’s Serie A top goalscorer, Ciro Immobile from Torino to Borussia Dortmund, the race for the Capocannoniere is wide open with main candidates Juventus, Napoli, Roma and Fiorentina being led by strikers who will all be looking to finish top of the goalscorer charts.

After a successful first season with Napoli, Gonzalo Higuain enters the new campaign as one of the favourites to top the scorer charts. The Argentine striker joined the Partenopei from Real Madrid and linked up well with Jose Callejon, Lorenzo Insigne and Marek Hamsik, scoring 17 times. Fully settled into the team and with Rafael Benitez’s side looking to mount a stronger challenge for the title, Higuain, boosted by the support of Michu, will have better service and will be confident of improving on his tally this term.

Following the departure of coach Antonio Conte, there is a growing feeling that Juventus’ reign of dominance is set to come to an end. However, the Bianconeri should still be confident of winning a fourth consecutive league title as they head into the new campaign with the same squad. Crucial to the Old Lady's title hopes is striker Carlos Tevez. The Argentine scored 19 goals last term, only one of which was a penalty. The former Manchester City forward will be confident of racking up a similar record this year as his partnership with Fernando Llorente continues to flourish.

Despite starting only 19 games last season, Giuseppe Rossi netted 16 goals for Fiorentina. His conversion rate of nearly 35 per cent was the highest of anyone in the top 10 goalscorer chart. Worries have already been expressed over his knee heading into this campaign, but with the Viola looking to improve on their fourth place finish, Rossi, if fit will be critical and has a great chance of improving on his record.

Luca Toni, who finished runner up in the scorer charts last season will fancy his chances of at least matching his remarkable tally of 20 for Hellas. However, the loss of Romulo, who set up eight goals last season, on loan to Juventus and the sale of Juan Iturbe to Roma severely lowers the quality of service to the Italy international.

Two-time Capocannoniere winner Antonio Di Natale will be looking to bow out in style by topping the charts once again while Juve forward Fernando Llorente will feel he has to improve on his record of 16 goals in 34 appearances last term.

With Inter looking to recover from another poor season, a lot of their hopes rely on Rodrigo Palacio who remains their main goal threat, having scored 17 times in 2013-14.

Mattia Destro has the potential to play a crucial role for Roma as they look to build on their magnificent 2013-campaign. No striker in last year's top 30 had a higher shot conversion rate than the 23-year-old's rate of 37% as he scored 13 non-penalty goals in 14 starts last term.

Argentina to recall Tevez?

Sep 5, 2014

The giornalaccio rosa dello Sport is suggesting Juventus star Carlos Tevez could be recalled to the Argentina squad.

The forward hasn’t played for his country since 2011 after being ignored by previous boss Alejandro Sabella.

However, according to the pink daily today, new Coach Gerardo Martino is monitoring the Serie A based striker with a view of selecting him in October.

The former Manchester United and City ace has scored 13 goals in 64 caps for his country.

He was a revelation at Juventus last season following his summer arrival thanks to his 19 goals in 34 League appearances.

Tevez adds to Juventus injuries

Sep 10, 2014

Bad news for Juventus, as Carlos Tevez has joined Arturo Vidal and Andrea Pirlo on the treatment table.

Tevez pulled up during today’s training session in Turin and reports suggest he has suffered a muscular injury.

That would rule him out of this weekend’s Serie A game against Udinese, while he’d also be at risk for the Champions League clash with Malmo and the next fixture at Milan.

Today it was confirmed Vidal will be out for at least a week due to a thigh problem he picked up while on international duty with Chile.

Pirlo and Alvaro Morata are also out of action, while Andrea Barzagli is recovering from Achilles tendon surgery.

Tevez calms injury fears

Sep 11, 2014

Carlos Tevez assured Juventus fans he has “no lesions and am preparing for Saturday’s game” against Udinese.

There were reports last night that Tevez had pulled up during a training session with a muscular problem.

It had been rumoured Apache would be out of action for this weekend and potentially the next two matches against Malmo and Milan too.

“Thank you to everyone for being worried about me,” wrote Tevez on Twitter this evening.

“I have no lesions and I am preparing for Saturday’s game.”

Juventus host Udinese in Turin on Saturday at 20.45 CET.

Argentina open Tevez door

Sep 17, 2014

Argentina Coach Gerardo Martino has opened the door for Juventus striker Carlos Tevez. “I see him as a Number 9.”

Tevez was frozen out of international duty by previous boss Alejandro Sabella, who did not even call him up for friendlies.

“I have already said that the door is open for everyone,” new tactician Martino told La Nacion.

“If I had to say where he’d fit into my tactics, I see Tevez only as a Number 9, so he is an alternative to Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero.

“I would not take four Number 9s to a World Cup, so I don’t think Sabella’s decision to leave Tevez out was illogical.”

Apache has been scoring regularly at Juventus and ended his Champions League drought with a brace against Malmo last night.

Those were his first goals in the tournament since April 2009.

However, Tevez has been playing in a deeper role at Juve, leaving the centre-forward position to Fernando Llorente.

Tevez Needed To Start Scoring Again States Asamoah

Sep 17, 2014

Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah says he is happy for his teammate Carlos Tevez, after the striker netted a match-winning brace against Malmo in their Champions League clash.

The Ghanaian international was accommodated in central midfield against the Swedish champions, and set up Tevez’s first goal was a beautiful flick.

“The assist for Tevez? I can also be useful in an attacking sense, in the second half we did well,” Asamoah told Sky Sport Italia.

“I’m happy with myself, but especially for Carlitos, he needed to get back to scoring in the Champions League.”

The two goals were the Argentinian international’s first in five years in the European competition.

Tevez: Ballet Celebration For My Daughter

Sep 17, 2014

Juventus striker Carlos Tevez has revealed that the ballet dance performed in celebration for his goal was dedicated to his daughter, as he had earlier promised to her.

The Argentine was in jubilant mood after helping his side to a 2-0 victory over Malmo in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

“The ballet to celebrate the goal was for my daughter as I had promised her that,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Differences between the league and the Champions League? There are many. It’s not the same thing. In Serie A, it is more difficult to score, but the matches in Europe are more open.

“Juve’s objective in the Champions League? First we have to qualify for the knockout stages. We didn’t succeed last year and it was a disaster.

“Now we think of qualification, then we will evaluate where to go from there.

“The suspensions? It’s Pirlo’s task to fill in when he returns to the field. He is a phenomenon.”

The 30-year-old former Manchester United and Manchester City player then spoke to Mediaset regarding his first goal in the Champions League for five years.

“I’m always quiet, even if I don’t score in the Champions League. My only thought was to get the win for Juventus because what happened last year is still on our minds, and it was important to play well in this first match.

“We must never give up, and we must qualify for the next round.”

The Bianconeri will leave European commitments aside as they prepare for a trip to the San Siro on Saturday night, with coach Massimiliano Allegri set to face his former player in the opposite dugout as Milan take on Juventus in a mouth-watering contest.

Carlos Tevez Goals Mark Beginning
of Juventus' European Resurgence?

Sep 18, 2014

Last season, despite their utter dominance of the domestic scene, Juventus disappointingly crashed out of the Champions League at the first hurdle. Despite two excellent showings against Real Madrid, a string of poor displays against FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray prevented the Turin giants from qualifying for the knockout phase.

That failure left the club’s supporters cold, unable to understand how a side that had swept all before it in Serie A could not overcome such European minnows. The early exit tainted its record-breaking campaign in 2013-14, and one player became the man chosen to shoulder much of the blame.

Like the Bianconeri, Carlos Tevez was superb in the league, netting 19 times in his debut season on the peninsula and narrowly missing out to Ciro Immobile as the division’s leading scorer. Yet he remained goalless in the Champions League, extending a scoring drought which stretched back to his time as a Manchester United player.

Having not found the back of the net since April 2009, his run of 1,003 minutes of action was held up as a knock on a player who had otherwise excelled since moving to Italy. Determined to silence those doubters, both Tevez and Juventus headed into this year’s competition eager to showcase their abilities.

As Tuesday’s meeting with Malmo began, it seemed the changes made this summer had failed to provide either with the required spark. Half-time came and went, the Swedish side repeating the kind of frustrating performance its Norwegian neighbours inflicted on the Old Lady in recent seasons.

Then, just like that, it was over.

With almost an hour on the clock, Tevez picked the ball up outside the visitor’s box and picked out an excellent run from Kwadwo Asamoah. The Ghanaian played an excellent backheeled flick back to the Argentinean, who had burst forward into the heart of the defence.

He drilled the ball low into the corner, beating goalkeeper Robin Olsen comfortably and running off to celebrate. A robot dance inspired by his young daughter followed, matched by scenes of delight in the stands of Juventus Stadium as supporters celebrated joyously.

He had finally scored the goal his performances for the club deserved, but the 30-year-old striker was not finished yet. Shortly before full-time, the Bianconeri were awarded a free kick just outside the box after a foul on Alvaro Morata, who had come off the bench just minutes earlier.

With Andrea Pirlo missing through injury, Tevez stepped up and curled an excellent effort round the wall and beat Olsen for a second time. Sealing the points, he was taken off for Sebastian Giovinco, earning a standing ovation from his appreciative audience.

Despite waiting almost five-and-a-half years to celebrate in Europe’s elite competition, Tevez himself said the team’s success is far more important. Speaking to Sky Italia at the final whistle, the striker said (h/t GianlucaDiMarzio.com):

Honestly, I wasn’t missing the fact I didn’t score in Champions League for so long. I only care about Juventus winning, other things are less relevant.

I want to thank all the fans who support me: it’s always nice to wear this jersey.

While he downplayed the significance of his well-taken brace, his team-mates were keen to highlight his contribution. “I’m happy with myself," Asamoah told Sky Sport Italia (h/t Forza Italian Football), "but especially for Carlitos, he needed to get back to scoring in the Champions League.”

More than simply ending his barren run, the Bianconeri will hope the goals signify a collective return to prominence on the continent. The importance of the competition to the reigning Italian champions cannot be understated (a matter discussed in greater detail here), the club desperate to carry its recent success onto the grandest stage.

Without a victory in the competition since 1996, Juventus know all too well what it is like to wait for European success. Now that Tevez has ended his wait for a goal, La Madama will hope her leading man can also bring her close to winning the Champions League.

Tevez man of the moment

Once again Carlos Tevez proved himself to be man of the moment
and Dave Taylor compares him to the Juventus greats.

Sep 21, 2014

“I play for a team and with this one I always play as if it were my last game,” said current Juventus goal scoring hero and its striker Carlos Tevez. A player who with his terrific spirit recalls to mind previous Bianconeri bandiere like fellow Argentinean Omar Sivori, John Charles, Roberto Bettega and more recently Gianluca Vialli, Fabrizio Ravanelli and David Trezeguet. All Juve icons and all terrific strikers who like The Apache fought to the end for the shirt.

Certainly Tevez is Juve’s man of the moment and following his two goals in midweek against Malmo in the Champions League, he drew level with the one and only Bettega. Following his second goal he has now scored 24 in his first 51 matches. Although it is still two less than another Juve legend Michael Platini, and four less than the incomparable Roberto Baggio, it is still noteworthy.

And although he has only been with Juve one full season his stats stand up well to previous strikers. For instance last season in 34 Serie A games he scored 19, while Bettega scored 17 in 30 league appearances. Of course he would have to go some to beat the magnificent Charles, who just for the record scored 28 in 34 matches. Yet in more modern times Carlito’s records stand up well against Vialli, who scored six in 32 games in his first season while his strike partner Ravanelli had five in 22.

A touch nearer was arguably Juve’s last great striker Trezeguet, who scored 14 in 25 games. All told the Frenchman contributed 123 over 214 league appearances and by the time he was released from the last year of his contract at the start of the 2010-11 season, he had scored 171 goals to become Juve’s all-time top foreign goalscorer. If Tevez can get somewhere near those sort of averages and Sivori’s 131 in 214, he won’t have done too bad.

Perhaps Tevez most resembles the great Sivori, who recorded 22 goals in 32 league games in his first season. Like Sivori, who played for Juve from 1957-65, Tevez can play in several attacking roles and is excellent in each one. He also has a similar head down no nonsense movement that opposition defenders underestimate at their peril along with that absurdly deceptive touch his predecessor had. Plus with eight assists in Serie A last season, he has that ability to see a couple of moves ahead. Factor in his one-track mind when it comes to goals and like Sivori in his day he is the perfect modern striker.

And like Sivori, Tevez can also be tetchy one minute and an inspiring leader the next. Yet so far Juve fans have witnessed none of the shenanigans that wrecked his relationship with his former manager at Manchester City, Roberto Mancini.

Since arriving from City, the 30-year-old has been in absolutely sparkling form and has carried last season’s form into this, with four goals and one assist in four games.

It is not only Juve fans who have been impressed, but also the new Argentina Coach Gerardo Martino, who is prepared to recall Tevez to the national team after his three years in an international wilderness.

His magic goals against Malmo certainly reminded Martino of Carlito’s skills. His alertness to pick up on Kojo Asamoah’s sumptuous back-heel to score the first goal, which broke a five-year personal Champions League hoodoo, was typical of his current form. Then at the death Carlito added another with a sublime free-kick from the edge of the box that curled past and foiled the Malmo ‘keeper. Not that Tevez is getting carried away with the win. “The Champions League mustn’t be an obsession,” he said. “We should take it one game at a time.”

And how! On Saturday came Juve’s toughest fixture yet, playing Milan at San Siro. However, after a tough game Tevez came to the rescue and struck with less than 20 minutes to go after snapping onto a great pass from Paul Pogba to coolly beat Christian Abbiati for the winning goal. And for a player taking on a deeper role this season, which allows him to run at defenders, he is still scoring like the old Tevez. “I like this position. There weren’t many opportunities today but I managed to score eventually and I am happy,” he grinned after the match, proving that he does play every game as if it is his last one.

Argentina clears path for Carlos Tevez return

Sep 22, 2014

Argentina Football Federation vice president Juan Carlos Crespi on Monday confirmed that the federation is making visa arrangements so that Juventus striker Carlos Tevez can be included in the call-up for two upcoming friendlies this month against Brazil.

Argentine coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino hinted last week that he is likely to include Tevez, who has been absent from the Albiceleste for the past three years.

Argentina, runners-up at the the 2014 World Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Germany in the final, have two upcoming friendlies against Brazil on Oct. 11 and 14 in China and Hong Kong, respectively.

Crespi said no official recall has been made and added that Tevez's visa approval will not necessarily mean he will be included on the team. According to Argentine daily Clarin, Martino already has a list of 35 players and will trim to 25 this week.

Tevez has not represented Argentina since July of 2011 when he missed a decisive penalty in a shootout that Uruguay won 5-4 on penalties to reach the last four of the Copa America. Alejandro Sabella, who took over the reins of the Albiceleste after that tournament, resigned his post after the World Cup, with Martino his successor.

Tevez led Juventus last season to the Italian league title as the team and Serie A top scorer with 19 goals. On Saturday, Tevez's fourth goal in three matches helped Juventus win 1-0 at AC Milan on Saturday in the first high-profile matchup of the Serie A. He also scored in a 2-0 win over Udinese last weekend, then produced both goals in a 2-0 victory over Malmo in the Champions League last Tuesday.

Tevez overlooked again by Argentina

The striker, who has been in international exile since 2011, has been in sensational form
for Juventus in recent weeks, but will not feature in the friendlies with Brazil and Hong Kong.

Argentina boss Gerardo Martino has once again resisted the temptation to recall in-form forward Carlos Tevez.

The Juventus star was ostracised under previous coach Alejandro Sabella, who repeatedly resisted calls to include the forward in his squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil, and he was also excluded from Martino's first squad, for last month's friendly against Germany.

It was thought that Tevez might earn a recall in light of his impressive performances so far this season, with the 30-year-old having hit three goals in his last three games, including the winner in Sunday's 1-0 win over AC Milan at San Siro - but he has been omitted from the 19-man panel to face Brazil on October 11 and Hong Kong three days later.

However, while Tevez remains in international exile, where he has resided since 2011, his Juventus team-mate Roberto Pereya has been included, while there is also a recall for Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Javier Pastore.

Captain Lionel Messi returns after missing the 4-2 win over Germany through injury, as does Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio.

Argentina Squad:

Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero, Nahuel Guzman.

Defenders: Marcos Rojo, Federico Fernandez, Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Demichelis, Mateo Musacchio, Santiago Vergini.

Midfielders: Javier Mascherano, Lucas Biglia, Javier Pastore, ROBERTO PEREYRA, Angel Di Maria, Erik Lamela, Enzo Perez, Nicolas Gaitan.

Forwards: Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Aguero.

Martino: Tevez doing very well, but...

Sep 22, 2014

Argentina Coach Tata Martino offered encouragement to Carlos Tevez, Mauro Icardi and Santiago Gentiletti, but the Juventus man isn't in his latest squad.

Ahead of naming a squad for next month’s matches with Brazil and Hong Kong, the Albiceleste’s head Coach commented on speculation he was preparing to include Juventus forward Tevez, for a first call-up in three years.

“When I came here, I was asked if there were any problems with any player and I said no and from there are the conditions to consider anyone,” Martino responded to ESPN+.

“As Carlos has said, to get into the team then you have do things right, and he is doing very well.

“I won’t say whether or not I will call him, but I will say that he is doing very well.”

However, later in the evening Martino confirmed 19 European based players for his squad and did not include the 30-year-old. Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Romero, Luca Biglia and Roberto Pereyra are Serie A's representatives.

Martino, in the earlier interview, was also asked about Inter forward Icardi’s prospects of adding to his one international cap.

“My obligation is to do the analysis of the player. If I had a chance to say something to Icardi, I would try to talk to him about working on his career, strictly in sporting terms.

“But I think that I do not have to get into things that are not applicable.”

Lazio defender Santiago Gentiletti can count himself doubly unlucky for his injury sustained yesterday, ruling him out for the next six months.

“The injury that has hurt me the most was that for Gentiletti, because I was following him.”

Argentina squad to face Brazil and Hong Kong: Messi, Mascherano (Barcellona), Musacchio (Villarreal), Romero (Sampdoria), PEREYRA (Juventus), Higuain (Napoli), Biglia (Lazio), Aguero, Zabaleta, Demichelis (Manchester City), Pastore (Paris Saint-Germain), Di Maria, Rojo (Manchester United), Vergini (Sunderland), Lamela (Tottenham), Perez, Gaitan (Benfica), Guzman (Tigres), Fernandez (Swansea)

No problem with Tevez, insists Argentina boss Martino

The Albiceleste coach has left the Juventus ace out of his latest squad but is adamant
that the door remains open for the 30-year-old, who has not played for his country since 2011.

Sep 22, 2014

Argentina boss Gerardo Martino insists that he has no problem with Carlos Tevez - despite once again overlooking the in-form forward.

The Juventus ace has hit three goals in his last three games at club level but failed to make the Albiceleste squad for next month's friendlies against Brazil and Hong Kong.

Tevez was never called upon by Martino's predecessor, Alejandro Sabella, but Tata insists that he is not against the idea of recalling the 30-year-old attacker.

"When I came here, I was asked if there were any problems with any player and I said no and from there are the conditions to consider anyone," the newly-appointed Argentina coach told ESPN+.

"As Carlos has said, to get into the team then you have do things right, and he is doing very well. I won’t say whether or not I will call him, but I will say that he is doing very well."

Inter's Mauro Icardi has also been in fine form in Serie A but Martino hinted that the striker, whose relationship with wife Wanda has generated much publicity over the past year, needs to prove to him that he is fully focused on football.

“My obligation is to do the analysis of the player," the former Barca boss explained. "If I had a chance to say something to Icardi, I would try to talk to him about working on his career, strictly in sporting terms.

“But I think that I do not have to get into things that are not applicable."

Allegri: Tevez deserves Argentina recall

The Bianconeri boss says the striker, who has not played for his country
since 2011, is playing well enough to be brought in from the cold by Gerardo Martino.

Sep 23, 2014

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri says Carlos Tevez deserves to be recalled to the Argentina squad.

The 30-year-old striker has not played for his nation since 2011, but has made a fine start to the 2014-15 season, scoring four goals in five appearances in all competitions for his club side.

Nevertheless, Tevez was omitted once again when Argentina coach Gerardo Martino named his latest squad, for next month's friendlies against Brazil and Hong Kong.

“Tevez is doing great things, as he did last year," Allegri told reporters on Tuesday. "He deserves to be called up, but I’m not the [Argentina] coach."

One Juventus star who did receive a call-up was the previously uncapped Roberto Pereyra, who has made an encouraging start to this Bianconeri career following his summer switch from Udinese.

“Pereyra is new to the national team, but he’s doing great things with Juve,” Allegri enthused.

Pereyra and Tevez are both likely to feature when Juventus host Cesena in Serie A on Wednesday night.
