Buffon: Pogba has to be more mature

The Juventus skipper says the young Frenchman has made a great impact
in Turin but feels the midfielder still has some growing up to do.

May 22, 2013

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is delighted with Paul Pogba's performances for the club but feels the young Frenchman needs to become more mature.

The midfielder arrived in Turin last summer from Manchester United and made 28 Serie A appearances, scoring five goals in the process, and the Bianconeri skipper has been pleasantly surprised by his team-mate's impact.

"You have to say that he's been a big and great surprise because we didn't know how strong he could be when he arrived," Buffon told RMC.

"He's shown on the pitch that he can be very strong and we have got to know him. He's an exceptional kid, very humble.

"He still has problems with punctuality but that's normal because he needs to become more mature.

"But I'm certain that he will leave his mark on the history of Juventus and the France national team."

Buffon: 'Pogba will make history'

May 23, 2013

Gigi Buffon praised 19-year-old teammate Paul Pogba. “He will make history for Juventus and France.”

The midfielder arrived as a free agent last summer when his contract with Manchester United expired and has now been called up for the Under-20 World Cup.

“Pogba has been a real surprise, as when he arrived nobody thought he could be this good,” Buffon told RMC.

“He is an extraordinary player who maintains great humility. I think he will make history for Juventus and France.”

This season Pogba became a key figure, prompting Juventus to change their tactics to accommodate him and earning his first senior cap for France.

Arsenal attempt for Pogba

May 26, 2013

British newspapers claim Arsenal will offer £15m to Juventus in a bid to lure Paul Pogba back to the Premier League.

The French international midfielder only left Manchester United last summer when his contract expired, joining Juve as a free agent.

He has been a revelation this season, even prompting Coach Antonio Conte to adjust his tactics to accommodate him in the starting XI.

The Sunday People claims today that Arsene Wenger tried twice before to sign Pogba and is prepared to offer £15m for a third attempt.

However, any such move is extremely unlikely, as Pogba is only 20 and has quickly become a fan favourite.

Arsenal’s other big Serie A target, Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic, also seems to be beyond their reach, as he would prefer to remain in Italy.

Pogba hopes for African foundation

May 28, 2013

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has revealed that he wants to use his fame and fortune to help those less fortunate in Africa.

The young France international has been a revelation for Antonio Conte's side this season, socring five goals in 27 League games.

And the 20-year-old has admitted that he would like to be more charitable in the future, whilst also revealing who his idol was growing up.

“Djibril Cisse was, for me, the best forward in France,” he told France Football. “I often watched and admired him.

“My dream is to help people in Africa.

“I'd like to build something – maybe a training centre to help young people.

“First I'd like to do it in Guinea and then across the continent.”

Pogba: I want to win the Ballon d’Or

The Juventus starlet admits he has made mistakes in his short career in Turin,
but insists his sole focus is becoming the world’s best player.

May 28, 2013

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has set his sights on winning the Ballon d’Or in future following an excellent maiden campaign for the Serie A winners.

The France international played a pivotal role in the Bianconeri’s successful title defence this season, although he has grabbed headlines for the wrong reasons on occasion, having been punished for turning up late to training before he was sent off for spitting at Palermo’s Salvatore Aronica in early May.

The 20-year-old now admits he regrets his moment of madness, and insists he is focused on becoming a world-leading player for Antonio Conte’s side.

“I want to become the best in the world and win the Ballon d'Or. But to do that I have to avoid being late for training and getting suspended,” he told reporters.

“Spitting at Aronica? You shouldn’t do it, it's not nice.”

Pogba signed for Juventus after struggling to break into Manchester United’s team under Sir Alex Ferguson, but he refuted claims that he acted disrespectfully towards the retiring coach of the Premier League champions after leaving Old Trafford last summer.

“I have not been disrespectful. I would say the opposite because I said things to his face,” Pogba claimed.

“When I heard about the return of [Paul] Scholes I realised that for me, at United, there would have been no room.

“I do not have a swelled head, I know where I come from, I only have a strong personality. I am direct, and most importantly I know where I'm going.”

Pogba: 'Sir Alex warned me'

May 29, 2013

Paul Pogba has revealed how Sir Alex Ferguson tried to talk him out of joining Juventus. “He said they were all racist.”

The French international midfielder has become a fan favourite in Serie A and at the age of 20 already a key player in the Scudetto-winning team.

He arrived last summer on a free transfer from Manchester United after struggling for playing time.

“Ferguson shouted at me and said: ‘Where are you going? To Juve, to Italy? Do you know what there is out there? They’re all racist,’” Pogba told France Football.

“He said the fans were not like they are in England. I replied there was racism everywhere, so I just wanted to play football so I could gain experience and improve.

“Ferguson noted ‘ok’ and then never let me play for Manchester United again.”

‘My future? Juve, of course’

Jun 10, 2012

Paul Pogba has taken the chance today to once more affirm his future is with Juventus, as links with a return to England continue.

The former Manchester United man has been linked in recent weeks with a return this summer to the Premier League, with Manchester City said to be interested.

However, in addressing reporters ahead of his summer international commitment, the 20-year-old also had time to reflect on where he sees himself come next season.

“Playing with my national team is extraordinary,” began Pogba to reporters today from France’s training base.

“I’m happy to be at the World Cup, I have worked hard for this opportunity and I feel lucky to be able to make the most of it.

“Here I will prove my worth. I hope to be 100 per cent and bet everything on the experience I have accumulated.

“Next season? At Juve, of course. Here I am fine, I am happy to wear this shirt.”

Pogba: My future lies at Juventus

The Frenchman has been linked with a move away from the Turin giants,
but a summer transfer is not on his mind at this point.

Jun 11, 2013

Paul Pogba has insisted that "his future lies at Juventus" after confirming he will still be at the club next season.

The France international faces stiff competition from the likes of Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Claudio Marchisio for a starting berth at Juve and a number of recent reports suggested that he could be on the move this summer in an attempt to get a guaranteed first team spot elsewhere.

Nevertheless, the 20-year-old has no intention to leave Juventus just yet, having only joined the club from Manchester United last summer.

"I will still be at Juventus next season. My future lies at this club," Pogba told reporters.

"It has been a good season for me. I am feeling very well in Turin and I'm happy at Juve."

The midfielder has a contract with the Scudetto holders until June 2016 and scored five times in 28 Serie A appearances last term.

Pogba rubbishes Juventus exit rumours

The 20-year-old says his focus for the summer is the Under-20 World Cup
with France rather than a move away from the Bianconeri.

Jun 13, 2013

Paul Pogba has moved to distance himself from the speculation regarding his future by stating he will "certainly stay with Juventus".

The 20-year-old midfielder enjoyed an impressive first season in Turin and despite speculation linking him with the likes of Arsenal, the Frenchman is eager to further his career in Serie A.

"I'm good at Juventus, so now I'm focusing on the Under-20 World Cup," he told Le Parisien.

"There's nothing new about my future. I will certainly stay with Juventus."

Pogba moved to Italy from Manchester United last summer on a free transfer and scored five goals in 27 appearances.

Pogba ready to lead France to U20 World Cup success

The Juventus midfielder admitted his pleasure at playing for the senior squad
but hopes he can have an effect back in the national youth squad.

Jun 21, 2013

France midfielder Paul Pogba has revealed his delight at captaining the Under-20 side at this summer's World Cup.

The Juventus starlet has shone in Serie A this campaign and deservedly earned a call-up to the senior squad, where he tussled with the likes of Xavi and Andres Iniesta in a World Cup 2014 qualifier for les Bleus against Spain.

But this summer he is back amongst the younger national charges ahead of the U20 World Cup in Istanbul, where France will be hoping to improve upon the fourth-place finish two years ago.

"I had the chance to play in the A team," the 20-year-old told RMC Sport, "but I am proud to be back with my [younger] team-mates.

"It's been a long time since the World Cup was within our reach. Being back here makes me happy. I am ready to take on this leadership role. I have shown I can lead by example.

"I went to the A team and I think many players would do the same, but I have shown that I can come back."

France defeated Ghana 3-1 in their opening game of the tournament and will face fellow Group A opponents United States and Spain in coming days.

Paul Pogba's had a pretty darn good 12-month span

Jul 14, 2013

Take a moment to ask yourself a simple question: 'What was I doing at four months after I turned 20 years old?' I'm not talking about myself specifically. You don't need to hear about how I was sitting in a classroom and most likely bored out of my mind as a junior in college. (Kidding, parents.) Just ask it to yourself, and think about it for a second or two.

Now, for comparison's sake, let's throw a name out there into the open.

Four months after Paul Pogba turned 20 years old, he's probably going to be in the market for a new trophy case. No, really. This isn't a drill. Since the 20-year-old Frenchman ditched his teenage years in the middle of March, he has won all of the following.

1. The Scudetto in his first season with Juventus

2. Captained France to the Under-20 World Cup title

3. The Golden Ball at the Under-20 World Cup

It's okay to be a little jealous, folks. You won't be the only one.

To say Paul Pogba has exceeded expectations since he officially became a Juventus player is probably a bit of an understatement. There was hype, sure, but there was also the fact that he was basically going from reserve games in England to the highest level of football in Italy. That's quite a jump, especially for somebody so young and relatively inexperienced at such a high level.

In hindsight, I think he adapted just fine.

Pogba's impact from day one was impecable. His progress under Antonio Conte was just as good. And if it wasn't for a trio of guys named Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal, and Claudio Marchisio, Pogba would probably be in line for more playing time than most midfielders inhibiting Serie A at the moment. He's so impressive sometimes, you forget that he's barely into his 20s, let alone coming off a season where he commanded a handful of games when he was still 19.

How good was he? I could tell you that Pogba Or, we could just read this paragraph from ESPNFC's Christopher Atkins.

The French midfielder was masterful for much of the tournament and was, in the final, clearly the most complete player on display. While it was clear that many involved were still learning their trade, Pogba looked completely at ease throughout. He was, quite simply, too good for this level of competition.

Basically, Pogba was a man amongst boys even though those other 21 players on the field were basically the same age. But this all gets back to how Pogba has developed the past year since he became a Juventus player.

We've seen players in their mid-20s become big-time players at Juventus in the past. Heck, we don't have to look further than a couple of players who are currently in the Juve midfield, Vidal and Marchisio. Obviously different situations with one coming up through the club's youth ranks and the other arriving from Germany for a fee that looks ridiculously low at this point, but the point still remains. Players develop at all different kinds of rates. Some faster than others, some arriving with hype and never living up to it.

In this case of Pogba, he has flown right past all of that. Maybe it's because a lot of us had never studied his game over the course of a season due to simple logistical reasons. We were certainly a lot more familiar with somebody like Marchisio, having watched him when he first became a regular with the senior squad in Serie B, then going out on loan at Empoli and coming back home again. But now that we've seen Pogba, we have a baseline and a way to compare and evaluate his game to see just how far it has grown.

A good number of these players in the Under-20 World Cup won't go on to do a whole hell of a lot in their professional careers. Some will have serviceable careers. Others will go on to have productive stints as pros. But then there's Pogba, a player who could very well be a fixture for Didier Deschamps' France squad in a matter of months when World Cup qualifiers get back underway. How many other players from the recently competition will be able to say that?

This is Paul Pogba at 20 years old, guys. Paul Pogba in his mid-20s is just scary...in a good way. Well, at least for those of us who like Juventus.

Pogba hails role model Deschamps

The 20-year-old midfielder is hoping to enjoy a similarly
successful career to his national team boss.

Jul 15, 2013

Paul Pogba has admitted that he wants to emulate Didier Deschamps' achievements for France and Juventus, after leading his country to victory at the Under-20 World Cup in front of his watching "role model".

The midfielder turned in another commanding display as les Bleuets overcame Uruguay on penalties in Turkey on Saturday evening, with the former Manchester United man netting in the shootout before later being recognised as the tournament's best player.

Pogba was left struggling to take it all in, admitting that the evening had been made all the more special for the fact that current senior squad coach Deschamps had been in attendance.

"After the final, he came to the dressing room and complimented us," the 20-year-old explained in an interview with Fifa.com. "It was so beautiful to triumph in front of him.

"I thanked him and now I want to imitate him. For me, he is a role model: he was a great midfielder for both France and Juventus."

Pogba acknowledged, though, that while he has established himself as one of the best young midfielders in the world over the past 12 months, he still has much to learn.

"This must be just the beginning," he explained. "The goal is to achieve the success of Deschamps, but to do that I have to work a lot."

Deschamps, a World Cup winner in 1998, won three Serie A titles and a Champions League during his time in Turin.

Pogba aims to emulate Zidane

The 20-year-old says he hopes to aspire to the level the legendary Frenchman
was at during his career, while noting Andrea Pirlo is his modern-day hero.

Aug 2, 2013

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has outlined his ambition to emulate Zinedine Zidane in the colours of the Bianconeri.

The France international has emerged as one of the continent's finest youngsters following a promising first season in Italy - which resulted in a Scudetto - after his move from Manchester United last summer.

Zidane won two league titles throughout a five-year spell with the Italian giants before departing for Real Madrid in 2001, and Pogba has revealed he hopes to leave his mark on the club.

He told Corriere dello Sport: "I had a year with this club and am very happy because we won the Scudetto.

"I hope to become as big as Zidane, Lillian Thuram and Didier Deschamps, but I have to work hard to reach their level."

Pogba, who won the Under-20 World Cup this summer, went on to state Andrea Pirlo was the modern-day player whom he hopes to follow the example of.

He added: "Certainly Pirlo! I hope I can do what he is able to do one day."

The Frenchman, whose contract with the Italian giants runs until June 2016, featured 27 times last season for Antonio Conte's men scoring five goals.

Pogba: 'I must grow at Juve'

Aug 3, 2013

Paul Pogba is not letting his Under-20 World Cup title go to his head. “I know I have to continue working and growing at Juventus.”

The midfielder won the trophy with France this summer and has just begun pre-season training.

“We are stronger than last year, both in Serie A and Europe,” he told Tuttosport. “The first objective we want to achieve is a third consecutive Scudetto. Then for the Champions League, we’ll see.

“As for myself, yes I am returning to Juve as a World Cup winner, but I also know I have to continue working and growing at Juventus.

“Obviously I hope to play and be first choice, but again I can only achieve that by improving. If I am to play in Andrea Pirlo’s position, which I have done a few times, then I certainly wouldn’t be upset.”

He only arrived a year ago from Manchester United as a free agent, but has already won over the fans and Coach Antonio Conte.

“My future? I don’t know anything about that. I am a Juve player and I’m happy, so I am focused only on playing for Juve.”

A meeting is expected in September to discuss a contract renewal.

Pogba wants Pirlo's position

The Frenchman has his eye on the Italy veteran's spot in the team, while stressing
that the Bianconeri are stronger than last campaign when they lifted the Scudetto again.

Aug 3, 2013

Paul Pogba has his eyes on Andrea Pirlo's position in the Juventus team ahead of the new Serie A season.

The former Manchester United midfielder, 20, has just begun pre-season training after his international exploits with France Under-20s, winning the Under-20 World Cup.

Pogba started 18 league games for Juve last season, scoring five times, but is hoping for a bigger role as the Italian champions look to retain their title in 2013-14.

"Yes I am returning to Juve as a World Cup winner, but I also know I have to continue working and growing at Juventus," he told Tuttosport.

Juventus have reached an agreement with Paul Pogba over a new contract until the summer of 2018, with the French midfielder expected to sign a new deal in the coming weeks.

Pogba's current contract with the Serie A champions runs until June 2016, but Juve were keen to open renewal talks as a number of big clubs - including Real Madrid - have showed an interest in signing the youngster following an impressive debut season in Italy.

Pogba has revealed his ambitions at the Bianconeri, though, insisting he would love to emulate former Juve star Zinedine Zidane's success at the club.

Arsenal make Pogba bid?

Aug 19, 2013

Arsenal are reportedly ready to make a £20m bid in an effort to sign Juventus’ French ace Paul Pogba.

According to Sports Direct News, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will table an offer for the former Manchester United player.

http://markting10.nl/

The midfielder, who helped inspire the Old Lady to Italian Super Cup success on Sunday against Lazio, joined the Turin giants last summer after his Old Trafford contract expired.

However, Juventus are unlikely to let go of their 20-year-old given how highly he is rated by boss Antonio Conte.

The latter is understood to have told club officials in July that Pogba and fellow midfielder Arturo Vidal were not to be sold at any cost.

Pogba, now a French international, scored six goals in 38 games for the Bianconeri last season across Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League.

Unstoppable Pogba puts Marchisio's Juventus future at risk

The Italy star may have to get used to watching on from the sidelines
as the Frenchman looks to take advantage of Il Principino's absence.

Aug 20, 2013

COMMENT
By Carlo Garganese

It is not often you lose a first-choice midfielder to injury after 20 minutes and are actually strengthened by the enforced substitution.

But that is exactly what happened to Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico during Sunday's Supercoppa Italiana against Lazio, as Claudio Marchisio hobbled off with a knee complaint and was replaced by French wonderkid Paul Pogba.

While Juve laboured in the opening exchanges, it took just three minutes for the ex-Manchester United man to make an impact as he swivelled brilliantly in the area to break the deadlock with a left-footed snapshot past Federico Marchetti.

http://markting10.nl/

Juventus reigned supreme thereafter to crush the Romans 4-0 in the Eternal City and claim the first piece of silverware of the new Italian season. Along with flying wing-back Stephan Lichtsteiner, the long-legged Pogba was the outstanding player on the pitch – powerfully dominating the midfield and setting up new signing Carlos Tevez for his first official Juve goal.

With Marchisio having since been ruled out for 30-35 days with a first to second degree tear of his medial collateral ligament, Pogba will now start Saturday's Serie A opener in Genoa against Sampdoria alongside Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal.

Just like on Sunday, Marchisio's injury could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Juve (and a devastating blow for the Italian). And not just in the short-term.

At just 20 years old, Pogba is already arguably superior to the Euro 2012 runner-up. Physically, mentally, technically – he possesses all the credentials to develop into the most complete midfielder in the world. Hence why former manager Sir Alex Ferguson - never fazed at having to supplant top class stars such as Jaap Stam, Ruud van Nistelrooy and David Beckham – was so enraged at losing the youngster on a Bosman a year ago.

Coach Antonio Conte acknowledged towards the end of last season's successful Scudetto defence that Pogba was too good to be a deputy. The problem was that his MVP midfield trio of Marchisio, Vidal and Pirlo was untouchable. Pirlo was the best creator on the peninsula, Vidal the number one ball-winner in Europe and Marchisio the silent complement to the world class duo.

Conte attempted to shoehorn them all into the same line-up by tweaking his formation from a 3-5-2 to a 3-5-1-1, with Pogba taking Marchisio's place and the Italian pushing into the 'hole', but the experiment failed. Marchisio lacks the guile and fantasy to interpret such a role, meaning that only three of the four midfielders can play at one time.

Despite being strongly linked with a transfer throughout the summer – particularly to big-spending Monaco – Marchisio remained. But his position within the club and the first team had been significantly weakened due to a lack of public support from his employers during the 'silly season'. Not to mention some anonymous performances for club and country at the tail end of 2012-13, including at the Confederations Cup.

The feeling is that Conte recognises that Pogba is already a superior option to the 27-year-old but that he has to play the situation smartly from a political sense. Il Principino (Little Prince) is hugely popular among the Juventus fanbase; born in Turin, a graduate of the youth system – he bleeds black and white and is regarded as a future captain of the club.

Now Conte's hand has been forced by Marchisio's injury. Should Pogba excel, as expected, then the ex-Siena boss will have no choice but to retain the Under-20 world champion in his starting XI (unless, of course, pigs fly and Arsenal sign Pogba this summer). While Juventus' assault on three fronts - plus Pirlo's advancing years - mean that Marchisio would still enjoy plenty of game time, he would be officially behind Pogba in the pecking order.

And with Marchisio turning 28 in January and entering the peak years of his career, his future in Turin will undoubtedly be brought into question once again.

Juventus issue hands-off warning to Pogba suitors

The likes of Arsenal have been linked with a bid for the French starlet
but the Serie A champions will not entertain any offers.

Aug 21, 2013

Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta has issued a hands-off warning to clubs chasing Paul Pogba amid reports that the France international could be on the move this summer.

The likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid are rumoured to be interested in the former Manchester United man, but the Serie A champions have made it clear they have no intention of cashing in on the 20-year-old.

http://markting10.nl/

"Forget about Pogba," Marotta told Tuttosport.

"We do not have the slightest intention of listening to any offer which may arrive for our midfielder."

Pogba joined Juventus from Manchester United on a free transfer in the summer of 2012 and has since developed into an integral first-team player in Turin, making 37 appearances for the Bianconeri last season.

The midfielder, who captained France to Under-20 World Cup glory this summer, has a contract with Antonio Conte's side until the summer of 2016.

Juventus have told admirers of Paul Pogba that making an offer for the player would be a waste of time.

Reports this week suggested Arsenal were ready to make a £20m – €23.5m – bid for the Frenchman. Chelsea have also subsequently been linked.

“Forget about Pogba,” Bianconeri director general Beppe Marotta is quoted as saying in Tuttosport. “We do not have the slightest intention of listening to any offer which may arrive for our midfielder.”

Juve signed the new French international last summer after his contract at Manchester United came to an end.

The 20-year-old had a debut campaign to remember in Italy where he scored six goals in 38 games across Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League.

Pogba is set to be handed a starting shirt at the beginning of this term given that fellow midfielder Claudio Marchisio will be sidelined for the next month.

The youngster is tied to the Bianconeri by a €1.5m a season contract until 2016. Talks regarding a new improved deal will start once the transfer window closes.

Conte: Pogba can be world's best

The Bianconeri trainer feels the midfielder can be one of the world's best
if he maintains the same progress shown since he moved to Turin.

Juventus coach Antonio Conte is confident Paul Pogba will eventually become the world's best player, after the prodigy helped his team to a 1-0 win at Sampdoria on Saturday.

The hosts stifled the Italian champions to good effect in a dour encounter, but Pogba popped up with the vital assist for league debutant Carlos Tevez to net the winner.

And Conte has hailed the growing maturity of his prodigy, stating there is no limit to his potential.

"Pogba is a modern player, as he is strong, fast and has stamina," the 44-year-old told reporters after the match.

"He’s also humble, so listens to the advice given by me and by his team-mates. We started working on him a year ago and his progress has been incredible.

"I saw his interviews in which he said he wanted to become the best in the world. I am happy with that, because in my view he can be the best."

Pogba looks set for an extended run in the first team following Claudio Marchisio's knee injury, which is likely to leave him sidelined for a month, and the midfielder paid tribute to his team-mates for aiding his progress.

"I feel like I have improved a lot especially playing with the likes of [Andrea] Pirlo, Arturo [Vidal], [Giorgio] Chiellini and now Tevez.

"We are strong mentally. We are Juve and we always want to win."

The young France international scored five goals in 37 official appearances for the Italian champions last season.

The France international enjoyed a stellar first season in Serie A and is set for an extended run in the first team following Claudio Marchisio's injury.

"I feel that everyone here has faith in me and that makes me feel very proud. We've made a good start by winning a difficult game with an excellent performance," he told the club's official website.

Pogba went on to say that he is not concerned with AC Milan's opening loss, with his focus solely on matters in Turin.

"AC Milan lost? That doesn't affect us. We just have to focus on ourselves and our own games."

Juventus continue their Serie A defence with a home fixture against Lazio on August 31.
