Inter have confirmed that they will be without the services of goalkeeper Julio Cesar for the crunch clash against Juventus on Saturday.

The 32-year-old was replaced by Luca Castellazzi at half-time in Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Atalanta after he appeared to suffer from a recurrence of the thigh injury which he picked up on international duty with Brazil.

A scan on Thursday morning revealed that Julio Cesar has suffered a second-degree strain of an adductor muscle in his left thigh, which will rule him out of the first Derby d'Italia of the season.

It is currently unknown how long Julio Cesar will be out of action, but the feeling in Italy is that the Brazilian custodian is facing up to four weeks on the sidelines.

Inter currently sit 16th in Serie A and have taken just eight points from eight matches.

Inter defender Lucio urged his side to grow strong and avoid becoming fragile against Juventus on Saturday night in Serie A's big clash at San Siro.

The Brazilian admits his side are yet to show their full power following their 1-1 draw with Atalanta on Wednesday.

Life has been tough for Inter so far this term having won just two games in the league, but the stopper hopes a third win arrives against the Bianconeri.

"Juventus are in a tranquil situation, but we have to think about our own form which has not been good, we need to score as many points as possible," the former Bayern Munich star is quoted as saying by La Repubblica.

"Our intention is to win against Juventus as we know we have to get back to winning ways as soon as we can.

"We have to treat every game like a final and it will be the same against Juventus."

While Lucio targets a winning performance, some have suggested a loss against Antonio Conte's men could end hopes of mounting a title charge, but the 33-year-old disagrees: "It will not be our last chance. We have to play the game with a knife between our teeth. We have to focus more, and we will come out of this situation."

Inter are in 16th place in the league, two points above the drop zone. Juventus, by stark contrast, are top of the table and kick-off in Milan is at 2045 (CET) on Saturday.

In-form striker Alessandro Matri is ready to feature for Juventus against Inter in Serie A on Saturday night, but there are doubts over goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon's fitness.

Matri, who scored the winner in a 2-1 triumph over old foe Fiorentina on Tuesday to keep his side top of the table, has previewed the big game at San Siro.

"It's nice to be at the top, but now we have to focus on Inter. We have to think about the game on Saturday," the former Cagliari star is quoted as saying by La Repubblica.

"We can feel this game and it will be like a marker of where we are going. We want to do well and we are hungry [to win]."

However, after Inter lost their goalkeeper Julio Cesar to an adductor injury in the 1-1 draw against Atalanta, Juventus could be without their No.1 Buffon as well.

La Repubblica claims the Italy international is still struggling to recover from a shoulder injury which forced him to miss the 2-2 draw against Genoa and 2-1 win over Fiorentina

RANIERI BACKS INTER TO TEST LEADERS

Claudio Ranieri is confident Inter Milan's players can make life difficult for his former club Juventus when the two sides meet at the San Siro on Saturday.

Last season's runners-up Inter have struggled in attack and defence and head into the contest with just two wins from eight games.

Inter were held to a 1-1 draw at Atalanta on Wednesday and are 16th in the standings, just two points above the relegation zone.

"I would be lying if I said that I was happy with the point taken at Atalanta," Inter manager Ranieri told his club's official website. "But I am certain we will face Juventus with the right spirit.

"They are in good form and this will be a good test for us."

Ranieri guided Juventus for two seasons before being sacked in May 2009.

He then had successful spells with Parma and Roma.

Juventus, coached by Antonio Conte, beat Fiorentina 2-1 on Tuesday to take over sole leadership of Serie A.

The Turin giants are the only unbeaten side in the league and have an eight-point advantage over Inter.

Udinese and Lazio trail Juventus by a point after disappointing midweek results.

Lazio were held to a 1-1 home draw by Catania while Udinese conceded their first defeat of the campaign, a 2-0 loss at Napoli.

Lazio travel to Sardinia this weekend to face Cagliari while Udinese take on Palermo at the Friuli stadium, having won all of their home games so far.

Defending champions AC Milan travel to the capital to face Roma, and Milan are riding a three-match winning streak.

Massimiliano Allegri's side have struck eight goals in their last two league games and are two points adrift of Juventus.

Fourth-placed Napoli will look to end Catania's five-match unbeaten run when the two teams square off at the Angelo Massimino stadium.

Fiorentina coach Sinisa Mihajlovic will be under pressure heading into Sunday's game against Genoa, with his side having failed to win any of its last five games.

Bologna coach Stefano Pioli is hoping his team will build on Wednesday's 1-0 triumph at Chievo when they welcome Atalanta to the Renato Dall' Ara stadium.

Siena take on Chievo on Sunday looking for their third straight victory at home in Tuscany.

Novara travel to Lecce looking for their first win on the road this season.

The promoted outfit have clinched just one point in four games away from home.

Bottom-side Cesena will go to Parma trying to end their winless run.

The Emilia-Romagna club have claimed just three points - all from draws.

Juventus coach Antonio Conte has replied bluntly to critics after a narrow beating of Fiorentina this week took the Bianconeri back at the top of the Serie A.

After Tuesday's hard-fought 2-1 win at the Juventus Stadium, following dull draws with Chievo and Genoa, the former Juve midfielder wondered 'how can a team who (this season) have never lost be in a crisis?'

Juve have been under fire over a host of missed scoring opportunities, and Conte admitted that 'we are not yet a great team, but we are working at it. We made major steps forward.'

However, he also dismissed criticism as unfair on the team and unrespectful of his men's hard work.

'One thing I have understood, and I even told it to my players,' he said. 'We have no friends.'

Conte also said he disliked the attitude of some fans at the club's new stadium.

'This is not a theatre. I want hell. And the fans must understand that they must stay close to us, mostly when the team is having difficulties. It is too easy to root (for the team) only when you are winning,' he said.

Juve next face a serious test on Saturday at struggling giants Inter Milan, who are aiming to rebound from a bad start into the season.

The Nerazzurri have just half of Juve's 16 points, suffering four defeats from eight outings.

Juve's Gianluigi Buffon is possibly back from a shoulder injury to keep goal against Diego Milito, Giampaolo Pazzini and Mauro Zarate in what the Turin newspaper La Stampa labelled 'the mother of all games.'

Inter's defence has to take special care of Alessandro Matri, who was scored three goals in the last two games.

The ninth round also joint-second Udinese and Lazio (15 points each) at home against Palermo and away to Cagliari, respectively, on Sunday.

Fourth-placed Napoli, who in mid-week inflicted a first defeat on Udinese, open the weekend Saturday at Catania. Level with the Naples side on 14 points are champions AC Milan, who visit Roma the same day.

In other Sunday action, Fiorentina welcome Genoa, Parma host bottom side Cesena, in-form Atalanta play at Bologna, Lecce take on Novara and Siena tackle Chievo in the noon game.

Chances of seeing Diego Milito leaving Inter in January are remote as he rejects rumours of an exit.

The 32-year-old Argentine has failed to hit the ground running for his side this season and missed a sitter in the 1-1 draw against Atalanta on Wednesday night.

Rumours have continued to suggest an uncertain future for Milito, but he has responded to those claims and made clear there are no contentious issues.

"I have no problems with anyone at Inter and I have never thought about leaving the club in January," Milito told Inter Channel.

"All this talk of leaving is not true. I can assure everyone that I am happy at Inter and I will give my contribution to the team."

That contribution could arrive against Juventus on Saturday night at San Siro if coach Claudio Ranieri gives him the nod to start.

"We want to win as this will be the most important thing for us," said Milito.

"We will have to play very well and we all know what this game means. We need the points and we know we have to beat Juventus."

Kick-off against the Bianconeri in Milan takes place at 20:45 (CET) on Saturday. Inter are 16th in the Serie A table, while Juventus sit at the summit of the standings.

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio insists the league leaders will not be fooled by Inter Milan's disastrous start to the season when the two meet in the 'Derby of Italy' on Saturday.

Unbeaten Juventus sit a point clear of Udinese and Lazio at the top of Serie A after eight matches while 2010 Champions League winners Inter are fifth from bottom.

But Marchisio, whose brace a couple of weeks ago saw Juve defeat their other traditional rivals AC Milan, doesn't believe anything should be read into the current table.

"No-one should trust Inter's position in the table, they're a huge team and they'll give their all against us," he said.

"We have to face the nerazzurri with the same desire and intensity we've shown in our last few matches.

"We want to maintain our lead in the table and we must have no fear."

Since being relegated for match-fixing in 2006, Juve have struggled to reclaim the heights they had become accustomed to.

They earnt promotion back to the top flight at the first attempt and followed it with third and second place finishes.

But they finished seventh in the last two seasons and missed out on European qualification altogether last term.

Even so, Marchisio is dreaming of winning the title and a victory away to Inter would go a long way to demonstrating that Juve are ready.

"I want to win the league, this year we're not in the cups (Europe) so I really hope we do it," he said.

"My teammates, the staff, the fans and I all really believe. We've had two terrible seasons and this year we can't mess up.

"Conte has brought us conviction and the Juve spirit, when we score he celebrates with us on the pitch.

"He fires us up, he knows the place well, he knows what it means to wear this shirt and he's brought that across well."

Inter centre-back Lucio admits the nerazzurri are struggling but claims they haven't been helped by the changes early in the season.

Coach Gian Piero Gasperini was fired after just five games in charge and replaced by Claudio Ranieri.

Inter started disastrously under Gasperini, losing four and drawing one of those five games and although things have improved under Ranieri, they are still struggling to recover.

"Ahead of the game against Juventus we're under pressure," Lucio told Sky.

"We have the humility to know that we need points. This year we had a coach who came with new tactics, a different way of playing and after losing three or four games, he left.

"Everything changed, we're in a difficult moment but we have to understand that and adapt to our current situation.

"I think everyone's worried because we're used to being at the top of the league and right now we're a long way away.

"We need to play every game like a final. Right now most of the criticism is justified because we're not playing well."

In other games Milan travel to Roma with their coach chastised despite his team banging in eight goals in two games.

Milan beat Lecce 4-3 and Parma 4-1 but chief executive Adriano Galliani still felt compelled to remind coach Massimiliano Allegri that the team with the best defence, rather than the best attack, usually wins the league.

Milan are one of several teams who could end the weekend on top of the pile.

They are only two points off top, alongside Napoli who travel to Catania.

Second-placed Udinese, who host Palermo, third-placed Lazio and Cagliari, who face each other in Sardinia, are the others with top spot in sight.

Juventus coach Antonio Conte has told his players not to forget Inter's qualities as he looks ahead to Saturday's big game in Serie A.

The Bianconeri are undefeated so far this season and sit at the top of the table, which is in stark contrast to Inter who have floundered in the league.

But despite the Nerazzurri's rocky start, Conte insisted his side would not underestimate Claudio Ranieri's men at San Siro.

"Inter are still favourites for the Scudetto. The first eight games should not change this. We must remember they still have the foundations of the team that dominated in Italy and Europe in the last few years," Conte told the press.

Conte also said that getting carried away by the aggressive rivalry between the two teams was worthless as he echoed Ranieri who had earlier said the match was worth nothing more than three points.

"It is not 'the game'. There are three points up for grabs. Thinking of anything else would be taking it as if it was a provincial match," said the coach.

"This game has to be normal, a stage for us to continue our development."

Gianluigi Buffon's presence has been in doubt as he continues to struggle with a shoulder injury and the coach revealed he will make a last minute decision regarding the goalkeeper.

"We still have to have our final training session and so I cannot respond on Buffon. After working I will have a clearer idea."

Inter's Yuto Nagatomo has told Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero to join a club in Japan once his time with the Turin outfit comes to an end.

Del Piero has been told this will be his final season at Juventus, having been at the club since 1993 when he joined from Padova.

Nagatomo is a big fan of the Italian, but there are more supporters in Japan and the defender feels Del Piero should rekindle his previous associations with Tokyo.

"I have been following Italian football since I was seven years old and I could remember Del Piero playing," Nagatomo told Il Corriere dello Sport.

"I saw Del Piero play in Tokyo for the 1996 Intercontinental Cup and I liked the way he helped Japan after the earthquake with his charity t-shirt.

"I hope he goes to play in Japan after his time at Juventus. It would be nice and I would like to see it happen as he has many fans there.

"Del Piero cannot imagine the amount of fans he has in Japan. I would advise him to move there."

Nagatomo will encounter Del Piero and Co on Saturday night in Serie A, and he hopes to celebrate with a win for the Nerazzurri.

"Juventus are a great team and they are doing well this year, but this time we are at home and we hope to beat them. However, it will not be easy," concluded the Japan international.

Former Juventus great Antonello Cuccureddu has told Goal.com that Antonio Conte's men are favourites to beat Inter at San Siro in Serie A on Saturday night because they are the better team.

The Italian, who won six titles during his time at Juve between 1969 and 1981, has tipped his ex-side to continue their magnificent start to the season.

"There is no doubt that at the moment Juventus are better than Inter. They are in good form, are first in the league and this will help them beat the Nerazzurri," Cuccureddu told Goal.com.

"Inter, on the other hand, are in a very delicate situation. Inter coach Claudio Ranieri has helped them improve, but they are still eight points behind Juventus in the league. Another false move and it could be curtains for the Scudetto."

However, Cuccureddu has not lost all hope for Inter and believes that Wesley Sneijder could be key in helping his side reverse their fortunes.
