Juventus' 0 - 0 draw in Verona with Chievo was one of five Serie A games which ended goalless on Sunday. Domenico Di Carlo's excellently drilled Chievo team played a successful pressing game against Juve's 4-1-4-1 formation that had been so effective against Milan the previous week. However, Juventus' performance will only serve to reinforce the thinking that Antonio Conte's side can't find the right attacking key to unlock opponents' defences.

Conte brought out the holy water against Chievo

With the score against Chievo even at 0-0 at the start of the second half, Juventus manager Antonio Conte pulled out a small bottle of holy water and said a prayer on the touchline. Conte was likely praying his side would retain its undefeated record and place atop the Serie A table.

So how did the second half go? Well, Juventus failed to score for the first time this season. But Chievo didn't score either, allowing Juve to keep that undefeated record and place atop the table, along with Udinese.

Conte isn't the first Italian manager to use holy water against his opponents, though. In 2002, Giovanni Trapattoni carried a bottle of it with him during Italian national team matches. Italy was knocked out of the World Cup in a very controversial round of 16 match against co-hosts South Korea.

Juventus stays top with 0-0 draw at Chievo

Juventus stayed atop Serie A following a 0-0 draw at Chievo Verona, one of five scoreless stalemates in the Italian league Sunday.

The closest either side came to scoring was a header off the post from Alessandro Del Piero in the 73rd minute, three minutes after the 36-year-old Juventus captain came on.

Juventus had another chance in the 75th but Chievo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino deflected a long effort from Simone Pepe over the bar, and Del Piero preserved the draw by clearing the ball off the line in the 84th following a corner from United States international Michael Bradley.

With new coach Antonio Conte guiding a long list of new players, Juventus remains unbeaten.

Juventus and Udinese each have 12 points through six matches but Juve leads on goals scored.

Udinese also drew 0-0 at Atalanta, and Cagliari stayed one point behind the leaders after another scoreless result against Siena.

Ten-man Genoa and Lecce also played to a 0-0 draw after defender Kakha Kaladze picked up his second yellow card in the 79th.

In the day's only match with a goal, Bologna got its first win by beating Novara 2-0 with scores from Gaston Ramirez and Robert Acquafresca in coach Stefano Pioli's debut.

Earlier in the lunchtime fixture, Cesena held Fiorentina to a 0-0 draw despite losing striker Adrian Mutu to a straight red card.

Roma was facing Lazio in the Rome derby later.

Mutu, playing against his former club, was sent off in the 73rd for swiping his arm toward the face of Fiorentina defender Mattia Cassani.

Cesena had come closest to breaking the deadlock as Roberto Guana hit the crossbar in the 20th minute while former Juventus midfielder Antonio Candreva also touched the woodwork with a similar effort in the 55th.

Fiorentina was missing injured forward Alberto Gilardino and winger Juan Vargas, who was left out of the squad for keeping late hours.

JUVENTUS IN STALEMATE WITH CHIEVO

Chievo proved once again to be Juventus' bogey side as they held the Bianconeri to a goalless draw at the Stadio Bentegodi in Sunday's Serie A clash.

Juve coach Antonio Conte had said on the eve of the game that this would be a real test of his side's title aspirations since they have always found it tough against the Flying Donkeys in the past, and they struggled once again in Verona.

Alessandro Del Piero hit the post, but that was as close as the league leaders came on a frustrating afternoon.

Chievo striker Sergio Pellissier provided the first moment of danger in the 10th minute with a direct free-kick through the Juve wall which Gianluigi Buffon was able to grasp at the second attempt.

Cyril Thereau put the ball in the back of the net minutes later, but the referee's whistle had long since gone for an apparent foul by the Chievo striker on Andrea Pirlo, from whom he stole the ball in midfield.

Juve's first attempt on goal arrived in the 51st minute when Claudio Marchisio flashed a 20-yard shot across the face of goal and just wide of the far post.

In the 73rd minute, Del Piero headed Simone Pepe's cross against the outside of the post with practically his first touch of the game after coming on as a substitute.

Del Piero's arrival seemed to give Juve the lift they needed and Pepe's switch from the left wing to the right, where Milos Krasic had disappointed, also seemed to have helped.

He tested Stefano Sorrentino with a curling left-footed shot from 25 yards as the Bianconeri started to attack with more insistence.

Del Piero made a decisive intervention at the other end of the field with a goal-line clearance as a combination of Pellissier and Stephan Lichtsteiner sent a Michael Bradley corner towards the Juve goal.

The Juve striker then went close again at the other end, volleying wide with the last real chance of the game.

and could miss this weekend's Serie A match due to the knock.

Juventus coach Antonio Conte has received some disappointing news in the build-up to Saturday's Serie A match at home against Genoa as he may have to make do without the services of Arturo Vidal due to injury.

The Chile international picked up a thigh problem in Wednesday's practice session and was forced to leave the training ground due to the injury.

Vidal consequently missed Thursday morning's session, and the former Bayer Leverkusen ace could now miss Saturday evening's league match versus Genoa.

Juventus have released a statement saying that the 24-year-old's injury is not serious, but they will continue to monitor the situation over the next few days before making a final decision about his availability early on Saturday.

The Turin side currently sit top of the Serie A table with 12 points from six games. Their upcoming opponents, Genoa, have collected eight points so far.

Juventus coach Antonio Conte had his players test out a third new playing formation as he continues to look for ways to improve his side, according to Tuttosport.

Despite the Turin giants setting the pace in Serie A to rave reviews, the form of wingers Milos Krasic and Eljero Elia has come under the spotlight.

His recently implemented 4-2-4 and 4-1-4-1 systems have seen his team race to the top of the league, nonetheless, Conte was testing out a third formation in training.

According to the publication, the 42-year-old had his squad line up in a 4-3-3 set-up, with an attacking trident consisting of Mirko Vucinic, Fabio Quagliarella and Alessandro Matri being considered.

It is believed that Conte is hoping to make it a possible solution should the likes of Krasic and Elia not regain form in the long term, and with Emanuele Giaccherini having picked up an injury at Chievo on Sunday, the need for extra options has been considered by the coach.

Juventus are set to face Genoa in Serie A action on Saturday in Turin.

Juventus full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner believes the club are in for a success-filled season in Serie A as he looks ahead to their next match at home against Genoa.

The league leaders failed to breach Chievo's backline last weekend and had to be content with a 0-0 stalemate in Verona and Lichtsteiner believes Juve need to be at their best in the coming weeks.

"We have difficult games coming up [Genoa, Fiorentina, Inter and Napoli] and so we cannot really speak about the Scudetto now," Lichtsteiner told Sky Sport Italia.

"But if we can continue along this path then I am sure we will achieve great things."

Genoa have failed to pick up a win in their past three games, however, Lichtsteiner has warned his team-mates not to take Alberto Malesani's men lightly on Saturday.

"We will have to be careful against Genoa as they have good strikers, but we are preparing well and I have faith," concluded the defender.

Juventus lead Serie A alongside Udinese on 12 points, while Genoa are currently in 11th place with eight points from six games.
