Italy medics: 'Marchisio sub-total lesion'

Mar 27, 2015

The Italy medical staff insist there is a “sub-total lesion” of Claudio Marchisio’s knee ligament, despite Juventus tests.

There is total confusion over the status of the midfielder’s right knee, as on Friday morning Azzurri staff suggested a lesion to the anterior cruciate ligament, which would require six to eight months out.

Later that same evening, Juve medics in Turin performed another MRI scan and “excluded the possibility of a tear,” so he could be back in action within two weeks.

“I do not have to justify the Azzurri staff, because I have no doubts that we acted the correct way,” said Professor Enrico Castellacci.

“I do have doubts on the test results, because we’ve seen two with very different outcomes. I have the utmost faith for the radiologists in Turin and Florence, but please allow me a little uncertainty still.

“Having said that, if the second test says one thing, it doesn’t automatically mean the first test was completely wrong.

“I never mentioned the need for surgery, nor that there was a total lesion of the knee ligament. I simply made the Istituto Fanfani report public.”

Marchisio underwent the first examination at the Istituto Fanfani in Florence, close to Italy’s training ground in Coverciano.

“We can only confirm what we ascertained yesterday and that was underwritten by four famed radiologists with over 30 years of experience,” Doctor Fabio Fanfani told the Corriere dello Sport.

“The player presented a sub-total lesion of the right anterior cruciate ligament. We never said there was a total lesion.

“We are naturally happy if Marchisio, according to further tests, could be back on the field soon.

“I think the communication was mishandled. The slender statement released by Juventus was made by a club and did not consist of a medical report.

“What we had was a photograph of the situation, but we don’t have his current clinical records or the progress of the player.

“I can tell you that there are various cases of players who continue their activity with partial lesions.

“We are not run by Juventus or the Federation. Our opinion is a professional and free one.”

Marchisio back 'within days'

Mar 28, 2015

Juventus medics suggest Claudio Marchisio could be back in action within days after new knee ligament tests.

The situation is bizarre, as on Friday morning the Italy medical staff sent him back to Turin, having spotted a “sub-total lesion” in the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee.

There had been reports of an operation and six to eight months on the touchline, sparking death threats towards Coach Antonio Conte on social media.

Later that evening Juventus medics performed another MRI scan in Turin and “excluded tears” to the ligament.

Today there were more tests and La Stampa claims they found the situation was even better than thought last night.

Instead of two to three weeks on the touchline, Marchisio could be back in training within days and targeting a comeback in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Monaco on April 14.

Today the doctors who performed the original tests in Florence insist they did spot a sub-total lesion, which although won’t necessarily stop the midfielder playing, is something to keep an eye on.

Claudio Marchisio injury reaction reflects poorly on Juventus

Mar 28, 2015

The word to describe the matter is "bizarre." On Friday morning it was revealed that Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio had suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury while on international duty and would be out for 6-8 months. The tests were made by the medical staff of the Italian national team, thus sparking controversy. Alleged death threats were made to Italy coach Antonio Conte, who has incurred the wrath of his former club for the injury to a player sorely needed by Juve at this crucial stage of the season.

Later on in the evening, Juventus announced that Marchisio's injury is not as serious as once feared and the player could in fact be back in training in a "matter of days." The club's statement read as follows: "The 29-year-old then underwent an MRI scan on his right knee this evening. The tests, supervised by Dr. Carlo Faletti at Turin's Fornaca Clinic, ruled positive, excluding the possibility of a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament."

So which is it? A lengthy injury or simply a minor problem? Azzurri staff member, Professor Enrico Castellacci, insisted no mistake was made and suggested the communication of the news might have been confusing, "I never mentioned the need for surgery, nor that there was a total lesion of the knee ligament." He continued, "I think the communication was mishandled. The slender statement released by Juventus was made by a club and did not consist of a medical report."

giornalaccio rosa dello Sport writer Mirko Graziano went so far as to note on Twitter that Marchisio will be available for the Bianconeri's upcoming match against Empoli on April 4. La Stampa journalists noted similar positive statements the night before.

Needless to say, fans of the Old Lady experienced a roller coaster of emotion during this fiasco. The Italian midfielder has been in fine form this season and has expertly taken over Andrea Pirlo's role and led the team with character. Considering Paul Pogba and Pirlo's injuries, it's vital Marchisio remains fit and healthy to help push Juventus on during this difficult stage of the season and potentially reach the semifinal of the Champions League should they defeat Monaco in the quaterfinals.

Without him, the tactics will need to change, at least in Europe. With few midfielders available, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri will have no option but to play the 3-5-2 formation, which is bound to affect their attacking game, especially should they reach the latter stages of Europe's premier competition. Hopefully Kwadwo Asamoah will be back soon to at least offer another option in midfield should the coach want to stand by the 4-3-1-2 formation in Serie A and Coppa Italia games going forward.

Sadly, the fall-out from the Marchisio debacle has led to unwarranted criticism and maddening behaviour. FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio revealed that Conte received death threats, leaving both men shaken. Judging by the reaction of Juventus fans on social media, opinions are split. There are those who are angry with Conte, while others insist he's simply doing his job and entitled to take it seriously.

It hardly helps that John Elkann, Fiat owner and the chosen heir of former Juventus owner Gianni Agnelli, chose to criticise the man who resurrected the fallen Old Lady. A man so far detached from "Stile Juve," Elkann furiously suggested that the Azzurri coach is no longer a coach but a simple "cherry-picker with the highest number of injuries." It was a ridiculous statement and hardly befitting of one of Italy's greatest industrialist.

The former Juve tactician could do with being a little bit more understanding of exactly how important this stage of the season is for certain sides and empathise with Juve's quest for success, as it is not only in Juve's interest but also in the interest of Italian football as a whole. Regardless of his comments, it must highlighted that without Conte, there would be no high-flying Juve, a team that is miles ahead of its rivals in Serie A and challenging the very best in Europe. A club now renowned for its winning mentality, professionalism and fighting intensity.

Allegri may have refined this team, but make no mistake, Conte is its creator and regardless of the man's limitations or reasons for his departure, he deserves the utmost respect -- it's time to remember how a big club acts.

Crocked Juventus Man Marchisio
Could Be Back Next Week

Mar 29, 2015

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio could return to training next week, as his injury is much less serious than initially anticipated.

The 29-year-old midfielder sustained a knee injury while training with the Italian national team on Friday morning, before it was reported that he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament, which would have ruled him out for six months. Fears of a serious injury were, however, later denied by Juventus’ medical staff.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Marchisio could be back in training for the Bianconeri next week, having a slight chance of being available for Juventus’ next Serie A match against Empoli at the Juventus Stadium.

However, it is more probable that the midfielder will be back for Juventus’ Coppa Italia semi-final rematch against Fiorentina on April 7.

Marchisio has made 27 Serie A appearances this season, netting two goals and assisting another six.

Marchisio in training tomorrow?

Mar 29, 2015

Claudio Marchisio is remarkably ready to resume training with the Juventus squad tomorrow and could face Empoli.

The midfielder was sent home from international duty on Friday afternoon with a medical report showing a “sub-total lesion” to the anterior cruciate ligament.

There were reports he’d be out of action for six to eight months, sparking a furious reaction from Juve and their fans.

However, Marchisio underwent another MRI scan in Turin that same evening and that found no lesions to the ligament at all.

According to La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport, Marchisio has recovered so quickly from the sprain that he’ll be back in full training with the squad on Monday.

He could at this stage even play in Saturday’s Serie A game against Empoli.

The confusion over why the two tests showed such different results continues, as the Istituto Fanfani medics insist there is a sub-total lesion in the knee ligament.

It won’t stop Marchisio playing, but is something to keep an eye on.

Could Claudio Marchisio actually be fit
for Juventus' game against Empoli?

Just like we all thought would be the case about 36 hours ago, right?!

Mar 29, 2015

After a whirlwind Friday filled with sad feelings, misdiagnosis and subsequently a whole lot of relief, the latest turn in the Claudio Marchisio knee injury-turned-major scare is upon us. And it's thanks to our friends over at Tuttosport, no less.

Marchisio won't be out for six or eight months like originally thought, so we know that's great news. But could Marchisio, who has been oh so good this season, be back for Empoli's visit to Juventus Stadium next weekend? That's what Tuttosport is suggesting ... maybe.

According to Sunday's edition of Tuttosport, Marchisio will be good to go for the first leg of Juventus' Champions League quarterfinal against Monaco on April 14. But when it comes to Juve's game against Empoli in Turin less than a week from now, that's still to be determined. Max Allegri, understandably, won't even consider rushing the 29-year-old midfielder back from injury.

However, if Marchisio is training with the group like some folks in the Italian media suggest, then it will cap off what has been a remarkable four-day period where we've gone from his season being over to thinking Marchisio might actually play in Juventus' first game coming out of the international break.

All of this, of course, comes off the back of Juventus announcing late Friday that Marchisio is "day-to-day" and not out for the season like the Italian national team declared earlier in the day. (That was a fun day, wasn't it? And yes, you're still allowed to laugh at the Italy training staff for completely botching that diagnosis.)

Maybe that day truly will be Monday when Juventus resumes training. Maybe it's next week after Juventus plays Empoli and starts to prepare for the Coppa Italia second leg against Fiorentina. We just have to wait right now, mainly because that's what happens when somebody's injury is declared day-to-day. So pull up a char and get comfortable, everybody.

Claudio Marchisio returns to training
just four days after ACL injury scare

Mar 31, 2015

I'll just say I didn't expect to be typing out that headline when I originally saw this story developing four days ago.

But it's true — well, sort of, I guess. Claudio Marchisio is back training with Juventus. However, on Monday, it wasn't with the big group as the squad slowly gets back to full numbers during the current international break. Marchisio was in the gym working with the Juve trainers and doctors as he begins his recovery from his non-ACL tear injury he picked up while on international duty with the Italian national team late last week.

Gym, swim, trim, whatever. Marchisio is doing football-like activities

Here's Juventus' official web posting regarding the squad restarting its training regimen on Monday:

The Bianconeri, boosted by the returning Paolo De Ceglie and Luca Marrone, were greeted by fitness drills in the beautiful spring sunshine as they endeavour to get in peak physical condition for their upcoming encounter versus the Tuscans.

Also among the faces in Vinovo were Arturo Vidal and Claudio Marchisio. Having come back from international duty earlier today, the Chilean joined his team-mate, who was undertaking his own personal regime, in the gym.

(Just an interesting side note: No mention of Andrea Pirlo, who was rumored to be one of the other injured players to be returning to training on Monday. Maybe no news equals good news in this sense. We'll have to wait and see on that one.)

Ah, Claudio. Your fondness for constant Instagram photos and visual aids keeps us so up to date better than all of the Italy doctors' ability to correctly diagnose a serious knee injury. And we thank you for it.

This is the first step in Juve's previously stated "day-to-day" diagnosis. What the exact time table looks like isn't something we know right now, but how many days it takes for Marchisio to get back to training with the main group will give us a really good idea about when he'll be back on the Juventus Stadium field.

But this is the first step. And it's a whole lot better than we thought would be happening when this crazy "Marchisio tore his ACL then didn't tear his ACL" injury saga actually began. Isn't it fun? (Well, it's better than Marchisio being out for the next six or eight months, that's for sure.)

Marchisio: ‘Juventus still hungry’

Apr 9, 2015

Claudio Marchisio says Juventus have proved they’re ‘still hungry’ as they battle on three fronts.

The Bianconeri reached the Coppa Italia final on Tuesday night, and have a commanding lead in Serie A, as well as preparing to face Monaco in the Champions League Quarter Finals.

“The Coppa? It’s the first goal we’ve achieved this season,” Marchisio told Juve TV.

“We’re talking about a really crucial point of the season, and to have achieved this important goal in the Coppa Italia means the team is doing well.

“We’re doing what we have to do, and that’s to win and try and get to the end in all competitions.

“We’ve also done well because of what’s expected of us. We’ve had three years where we’ve won the League every year and the question is always whether or not Juventus will still be hungry.

“The players are still willing to sacrifice and to give everything out on the pitch and we’re showing that this year.

“Our three years of victories cannot be taken for granted, even if some claim that the Italian League is not as good as other European Leagues.

“But look at the other Leagues, the points [for the team at the top] are around 70 [Juventus’s total], like Chelsea in England, so maybe the problem is that other teams haven’t been as consistent as we have.

“So it tells you even more about the value of this team which, despite the passage of time, is always able to be out in front demonstrating the capabilities that we have.

“It’s normal that if you look at other subjects in Italy, like the country’s economy there’s a bit more of a crisis, and it’s the same in football.”

Marchisio set for renewal

Apr 15, 2015

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has reportedly agreed a new deal with the Old Lady that will be announced in the next few days.

The 29-year-old’s current deal expires next summer, but according to La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport, he has reached an agreement with the club to renew until June 2019.

An official announcement could come in the very near future, but according to the newspaper it may be delayed until hours before the Turin derby on April 26.

‘Il Principino’ has been an integral part of Juventus’ recent success and is a product of the club’s youth system.

Marchisio has been a mainstay of the Old Lady’s domestic and European challenge this season, scoring twice and making nine assists in 41 appearances.

Marchisio Out Of Derby Against Torino

Apr 21, 2015

Juventus’ derby preparations have been tempered with the news that Claudio Marchisio will miss the game against Torino through suspension.

The 29-year-old has been an influential figure in the Derby della Mole in recent seasons and the Bianconeri youth product has three goals across the cross-city rivals.

However, a yellow card picked up against Lazio in his side’s 2-0 win at home in the league on Saturday night means that he is ruled out of the fixture.

Marchisio: ‘Difficult every year’

May 7, 2015

Claudio Marchisio denies Juventus have it easy in Serie A - ‘it’s always difficult, every year’.

The Bianconeri have won four consecutive Scudetti, with the latest having been wrapped up with four games to spare.

“It’s an important Scudetto, like all the others,” Marchisio insisted in an interview with Sky.

“It's always difficult, every year, to repeat our success.

“With this squad, with the new arrivals and those who have been here since the first title [in 2012] it’s been possible to build a very good group, and we’ve been showing that these last few years.

“Winning the Scudetto with a few rounds still to play means we can focus on the cup competitions [Coppa Italia and Champions League].

“Every year we find new ways to give our all, independently of who the Coach is.”

The midfielder then discussed his own season, and revealed he enjoys playing in a deeper role.

“This year I’ve been lucky, because I’ve had almost no injuries. So that definitely helps, plus I’ve always tried to repay the faith that the Coach has in me.

“This year I’ve had more of a chance to play in front of the defence, which I’d tried a few times last year. I’ve always enjoyed it.

“This year I’ve been able to hone my skills even more in that role.”

Marchisio: ‘Juve have grown in Europe’

May 7, 2015

Claudio Marchisio believes Juve have ‘grown’ in Europe, and insists they won’t go to the Bernabeu to defend.

The Bianconeri need only a draw in Madrid on Wednesday to reach their first Champions League final since 2003, and the midfielder believes this year is the culmination of their work.

“We’ve made very important strides this year,” Marchisio told Sky.

“If you look back on our journey, we started with defeats to Olympiacos and Atletico Madrid, so it wasn’t easy to get past the group stage.

“We’re a compact group, which has grown slowly, culminating in this semi-final, where we showed against Real that we can give anyone a game.

“Now we wait to play the return leg, but we’re definitely not going to sit back for 90 minutes in order to go through. We’ll go there with our character and style of play to try to make the final.

“This has been a culmination, because in the first [scudetto] year, we didn’t play in the Champions League, the second we managed to reach the quarter-finals and last year, even though we were criticised, we almost made it to the Europa League final in Turin.

“Even in that case, there was a path of growth where we got to play big teams and get to the latter stages.

“We have to make sure we don’t make the mistake we did in the second leg against Monaco, where we didn’t play, because we’ve been waiting for this, and you can’t do that against Real Madrid.

“We have to play openly. Of course, we’ll have to have the right attitude and make sure we’re concentrated because they have great champions.

“But we definitely have to go there and play.

“The Bernabeu is an iconic stadium with a large crowd, it might not be as fiery as some stadiums, but it’s definitely a beautiful place to play.

“Last year, with another Juve, we gave a great performance against Real, we know what to expect and we know what we have to do.”

Marchisio: Juventus Can Be Fully Focused
On The Champions League Now

May 7, 2015

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has revealed that the Old Lady can remain fully focused on the Champions League now that they have won the Scudetto.

The Bianconeri have already won their first leg semi-final clash with Real Madrid in a 2-1 result in Turin on Tuesday and will now prepare for the next battle in Spain on May 13 and the 29-year-old remains confident that his team will be able to stay completely concentrated on going as far as possible in the tournament, though he admits that it can be difficult for the club to find new motivation every year.

Marchisio spoke to Sky Sport Italia about Juve’s successful season and their run in the Champions League, while also commenting on the challenge of doing well each season.

“Every year it’s difficult to repeat our success, but we have been building a very important team with our new signings in recent times,” said the Italian international.

“Winning the Scudetto has now allowed us to be completely focused on our run in the Champions League.

“Every season you have to independently find new stimuli, but of course you can always find some from the coach.

“I had a few injuries and this has helped motivate me. I’ve also played right in front of defence more often, where I’ve always enjoyed to be.

Marchisio: ‘Welcome Khedira’

May 10, 2015

Claudio Marchisio welcomes Sami Khedira to Juventus, and hopes Carlos Tevez and Andrea Pirlo will stay.

The German midfielder has joined the Bianconeri on a free transfer, and his new teammate took a moment to discuss him at a Press conference on Italy duty.

“It’s a very good move,” Marchisio said.

“The club has been working well in recent years. Almost all of the midfielders came cheap, Sami will be very helpful for us and I’m glad he’s come to Juventus.”

There are rumours that Tevez and Pirlo could leave the Champions League finalists, and the Azzurri midfielder wants both to stay.

“If there are these rumours, then that’s a bit concerning. They still have a lot to offer Juventus, they’re two great players.

“I hope they stay with us.”

Marchisio: ‘Berlin not a one-off’

May 10, 2015

Claudio Marchisio insists Juventus’ Champions League final was not a one-off, but admits it will be ‘difficult’ to go that far again.

The Bianconeri reached the final in Berlin, and though they were ultimately beaten 3-1 by Barcelona, the Italian international looks at the positives.

“Was it a one-off? No, but it will be difficult,” Marchisio told journalists at a Press conference while on Italy duty.

“There are only two teams in the final, when you reach the last eight you’re facing difficult teams, it’s not easy.

“For Real Madrid it was viewed as a failed season, but they made it to the semi-finals. For us, this should be a starting point.

“Juventus now has to remain among the top six or eight teams in Europe every year. The final is difficult to reach for everyone, even Barcelona.

Marchisio also reflected on the differences between Juve Coach Max Allegri, and national team CT Antonio Conte.

“They’re two completely different Coaches, both in terms of approach and style of play. Allegri did well, he accepted a difficult job with only hours of notice.

“If we reached the final, then it’s also down to Conte, as the growth started under him. Allegri gave us the belief to compete with the biggest teams in Europe.

“Juventus did not surprise me, but we made important strides in the Champions League. Winning breeds winning.”

Marchisio Promises More Juventus Success

Jun 13, 2015

Claudio Marchisio spoke ahead of Italy’s friendly, reflecting on Juventus’ season and promising Bianconeri fans more and better things to come.

Italy take on Portugal on June 16 in a friendly, following their EURO 2016 qualifier against Croatia (1-1 draw) on Friday.

Marchisio took to social media and reminisced on Juventus’ season, vowing to Bianconeri fans that they will keep on striving for more success.

“We keep working at the end of a long season,” Marchisio posted on his Instagram account.

“Tuesday is the last game with the national team and then we rest for a few weeks.

“We [Juventus] went out to win and prove that this group continues to be hungry.

“We lifted two more trophies this season, winning a 10th Coppa Italia and another Scudetto. It will forever remain a unique season full of emotions.

“We will share one goal for next season… as always: win!”

Claudio Marchisio agrees to contract extension through 2019

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2015/6/19/8811415/claudio-marchisio-juventus-serie-a-contract-extension

Jun 19, 2015

In terms of being rewarded simply because due to your performances on the field this past season, there are few players who deserve a contract extension more than midfielder Claudio Marchisio. Il Principino was good, damn good, and played a massive at multiple spots in what is considered one of the best midfields in all of Europe.

So, naturally, we have news of Marchisio being on the brink of putting pen to paper on said contract extension.

According to both Tuttosport and the giornalaccio rosa dello Sport, Juventus' lone Turin-born senior player is set to stay right where he is for many years to come. That's no surprise, really. When you say Marchisio is as Juventus as anybody on the roster, it's not a surprise at all. And now he's expected to sign a contract extension through the 2018-19 season — a deal that will see play for the only team he has known (outside of a year on loan at Empoli) entering his mid-30s.

Marchisio's new contract will be announced on Saturday, according to the giornalaccio rosa. Good times.

LaGazzettadelloSport ✔@Gazzetta_it
Marchisio bianconero a vita Domani firma fino al 2019

Out of all the contract extensions that are expected to take place this summer or early fall, this is one of the easiest to figure out. You want Marchisio to stick around? Good, because he does to. In an era where staying with one club throughout your career — and I guess I'm not including a loan season in this notion — is as rare as any anything these days, Marchisio is pretty much saying "I'm staying right here, big guy."

That's a wonderful thing to have happen, to be honest.

Marchisio is a leader and a future captain. Maybe the only thing from preventing him from being captain is the fact that Superman is still playing at a ridiculously high level as a 37-year-old goalkeeper and has no plans of retiring for at least a couple of years. But Marchisio's time will come. Why? Because he is about to sign a contract extension and stick around until his career comes to a close. That seems like a pretty understandable reason to me.

Juventus Ready To Reward Midfielder’s Loyalty With New Deal

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/07/juventus-ready-to-reward-midfielders-loyalty-with-new-deal/?

Jul 2, 2015

Claudio Marchisio would be edging ever closer to a new Juventus deal, with the club ready to present their offer to the midfielder.

Marchisio has been with Juventus since integrating the first team back in the 2008-09 season, and since becoming a loyal servant of the Bianconeri.

Juventus would have an offer on the table and ready to present it to the 29-year-old, which would keep him in Turin until 2019 according to PremiumSport.

The media also report that Marchisio would be offered €4 million per season.

The Italian international enjoyed a very successful 2013-14 season, aptly deputising for the often injured Andrea Pirlo and helping Juventus to a fourth consecutive Scudetto, their 10th Coppa Italia triumph and a Champions League final.

Marchisio made 51 appearances for the Bianconeri in all competitions, scoring three goals and making seven assists.

Juventus set to announce Claudio Marchisio's
contract extension on Monday

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2015/7/6/8896617/juventus-set-to-announce-claudio-marchisios-contract-extension

Jul 6, 2015

For most of the summer, Juventus' Twitter account has been re-telling us about things that already took place over the last 10 months. You know, stories and photos about some of the magic moments that happened over the course of the 2014-15 season, one that saw Juve win their fourth straight Scudetto, a 10th Coppa Italia and make it all the way to the Champions League final.

Sunday brought us a little different kind of thing. Like, an important announcement being on the horizon.

Andrea Agnelli and @ClaMarchisio8 will hold a press conference tomorrow at #JStadium.

Hmmmm, I wonder what that could be about...

Here's a hint: Claudio Marchisio is coming back from vacation, and it's just so convenient that he'll be flying into the Turin airport in just a matter of hours. There have been plenty of rumblings regarding Marchisio singing a brand new contract extension, keeping the Turin-born midfielder right where he is as he approaches his mid-30s.

So, when you see a press conference set for Monday afternoon with Marchisio and Juventus President Andrea Agnelli both at the podium with microphones in front of their faces, it's pretty easy to put two and two together.

Yeah, it equals a contract extension announcement for Il Principino.

Not that it comes as a surprise that Marchisio is about to extend his contract another handful of seasons. Of all the players who are currently on the Juventus roster, he's about as much of a lock to finish his career right where it started. Gigi Buffon will retire a Juventus player, and every single indication is that the same will be said when it comes to Marchisio. He's grown up at the club, he's broken into the first team and he's now one of their most important players regardless of what position he plays.

The future captain is getting a new contract. And we're all about to celebrate it along with him. Sounds like a nice way to spend a Monday to me.

Marchisio Set To Become Heir To Andrea Pirlo

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/07/juventus-midfielder-set-to-become-heir-to-andrea-pirlo/?

Jul 6, 2015

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has reportedly extended his contract with the Turin club and an official announcement is expected on Monday.

The 29-year-old’s current deal is due to expire in June 2016 but both Marchisio and the Bianconeri are keen to continue their relationship.

According to La Stampa, the new agreement will see the Italian international remain with La Vecchia Signora until the summer of 2019, by which time the player will be thirty-three.

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli is expected to make the announcement, stating that Marchisio “is the heir to [Andrea] Pirlo”.

The versatile midfielder is a product of the Juventus youth academy and has made over three-hundred appearances for the Bianconeri since his debut in 2006.

He made fifty-two appearances for the club in 2014/15, winning the Scudetto and Coppa Italia, before playing the full ninety minutes in Juve’s Champion’s League Final defeat to Bracelona.

Official: Marchisio renews with Juventus

http://www.football-italia.net/68786/official-marchisio-renews-juventus?

Jul 6, 2015

Claudio Marchisio has renewed his Juventus contract until 2020, with President Andrea Agnelli saying he’s ‘already a legend’.

The midfielder has spent his entire career with the Bianconeri, and seems set to end his career in Turin, signing a contract which will take him up to the age of 34.

“Claudio is living every child’s dream,” Agnelli said in a Press conference to announce the renewal.

“To come to Juventus at seven years old, and move up every level of the youth set-up, before reaching the first team and also wearing the captain’s armband.

“I think if a kid were to imagine the ideal path in a club like Juventus, it would be difficult to do better than that, I think it’s something quite unique in a place like this.

“Claudio is already a legend, he’s already part of the museum, and though he’s not yet 30, he’s made over 300 appearances for Juventus, so he’s already among our greats.

“Claudio is the point of contact between the Juventus of yesterday and the Juventus of tomorrow.

“Even before today he could be considered a senator, but now, with a renewal for the next five years, which means he could end his career at Juventus, he is, in effect, a senator.

“This is a great honour, but it also means big responsibilities for Claudio.”

OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL: Claudio Marchisio
extends contract through 2020

Claudio Marchisio was never going anywhere. I know this because it's one of the easier things in life to figure out. Claudio Marchisio is as Juventino as anybody we've seen put on the jersey in the last decade or two. He grew up here, and outside of a loan spell at Empoli in the 2007-2008 season, bianconero are the only colors he's worn since he was a kid.

And it's not like that's about to change — nor should it.

Alongside club president Andrea Agnelli, Marchisio, viewed by many as the club's next captain whenever Gigi Buffon chooses to hang up his gloves and retire, has extended his contract with his hometown club through the 2019-20 season. Marchisio, who turned 29 in January, recently exceeded the 300-appearance mark with Juventus and is the latest player from the club's core to put pen to paper on a contract extension over the last 12 months.

Agnelli: "@ClaMarchisio8 has signed a five-year contract extension with the club."

I will never get tired of writing about Marchisio signing a new contract with Juventus. Never ever. There's surely to be another contract or two before he's off to hang out and flood his Instagram profile with pictures of his kids on a full-time hases, which is good news for all of us. I don't even want to think of a Juventus world that doesn't involve Claudio Marchisio right now. The good thing is, we're still years away from that happening, so nothing more to see here.

Marchisio had a huge return to form this past season and was easily been one of Juventus' best players from the opening weekend to when things came to a close in the Champions League final in Berlin. It has come in a variety of different roles, too, with Marchisio being the direct replacement whenever Andrea Pirlo is out of the lineup as well as holding down his usual spot in Juve's midfield. His ability to bounce in between the two spots in the center of the park has been a vital asset to first-year manager Max Allegri, who hasn't been afraid to deploy Marchisio as a regista this season.

No matter if his future is as a regista or somewhere else in midfield beyond next season, he will be in the Juventus jersey he has worn for so many years before. Juventus and Claudio Marchisio, some kind of Italian love story that isn't ending any time soon. That's the way it should be, really.

.@ClaMarchisio8: "It's a feeling that sits alongside my first training session in 1993. I'm delighted to wear the shirt I've always wanted."

Truer words have never been spoken. Claudio Marchisio is Juventus — both on the field and in his heart.

Marchisio: ‘Always wanted Juventus’

http://www.football-italia.net/68790/marchisio-%E2%80%98always-wanted-juventus%E2%80%99?

Jul 6, 2015

Claudio Marchsio says he ‘always wanted this shirt’ after renewing his Juventus contract until 2020.

The midfielder is a product of the Bianconeri youth system, has been at the club since childhood, and today’s announcement will almost certainly see him end his career in Turin.

“It’s a beautiful day, full of emotion,” Marchisio admitted in a Press conference to announce the new deal.

“It’s like the emotion I felt in 1993, when I turned up for my first training session. After all these years, I’ve always wanted this shirt, and I’m lucky to be able to continue at this great club for another five years.

“This isn’t a point where I feel I’ve arrived, I want to keep moving forward, to continue to win with this great team.”

Marchisio then discussed the aims for next season, as well as some moments from his Juve past.

“Like every year, we’re expecting a difficult Champions League campaign. This year we achieved a big goal, the final, but we have to keep an eye on the path which has slowly brought us to significant growth.

“We want to consolidate this year, to always be among the last eight, because everyone, apart from Barcelona in recent years, has found it very difficult to win it. So that’s our goal.

“As for my loyalty to the club, it wasn’t easy, because to come through a big youth system like Juve’s is not easy.

“I’ve always said, that as a Juventus fan I suffered for a year in Serie B, but if definitely helped me. I’m always available to try and give my best in any role, for any Coach.

“Having Juve in my heart has always given me that extra energy to always give my all, not just in every game, but in every training session too.

“That’s what I try to pass on to my teammates, especially the new ones, the idea of never giving up.”

Marchisio: ‘I can’t replace Pirlo’

http://www.football-italia.net/68792/marchisio-%E2%80%98i-can%E2%80%99t-replace-pirlo%E2%80%99?

Jul 6, 2015

Claudio Marchisio says his ‘different characteristics’ mean he can’t replace Andrea Pirlo for Juventus, and praised the outgoing playmaker.

On the day it was confirmed that Pirlo will leave Turin to continue his career in MLS, it was announced that Marchisio has signed a new five-year deal.

The Italian international often deputised for his compatriot in the regista role last season, but says he can’t be a direct replacement for the veteran.

“I can’t be Pirlo’s heir, because I’m a completely different player to Andrea,” Marchisio explained in a Press conference to announce his renewal.

“The most we share on the park is if we’re in the same position.

“I would like to say a few words about Andrea though, for everything he’s given to Juventus, as we’ve grown, because he was a very important player.

“For me too, because in recent years, playing this role in front of the defence, I’ve watched him every day, and it’s helped me so much.

“I don’t have his characteristics, but to learn from a champion like him has made it even easier to take to the pitch.”
